Dear Jia,
On behalf of East Dallas, I would like to welcome you to the neighborhood. It's been a long time since we've had even moderately good Chinese food. While my first visit wasn't perfect, it showed a lot of promise.
The interior is clean, inviting and well appointed. Service was gracious, attentive and accessible. The menu includes the typical Chinese-ish dishes we are all familiar with, but also includes common Thai-like specialties including Pad Thai and Tom Yum soup, as well as a respectable Japanese and sushi offering.
I started with the Imperial Summer Roll, which had plenty of shrimp. It was very, very good. I asked for some sriracha to complement the accompanying peanut sauce. I also had the Spicy beef salad. I was less enchanted by this dish. It was overdressed, the beef was pre-cooked and served cold, which seemed unusual. Despite mentioning that I like spicy food and request spice-level 3 after my server suggested 2, my meal was completely void of heat. When I mentioned it, my server brought an assortment of spice options that included jalapeños, spicy chili oil, chili flakes and a wicked looking marinated chilis I was afraid to try. I used the chili oil, but I would have preferred my Spicy Beef Salad to be served as God intended.
All that said, I will definitely try Jia again!
