"When the founders of the now-closed Jia Modern Chinese open a new Asian restaurant, our ears perk up. This spot in Uptown serves Chinese dishes, sushi, and Thai. CultureMap Dallas reports that the menu includes a Three Cuisine Sampler, to get the best of all three worlds." - Courtney E. Smith

"First-time restaurant owner Jia Huang’s menu is filled out with Chinese staples like General Tso’s chicken and orange peel chicken, along with healthier options like the Seafood Delight, a plate of scallops, shrimp, calamari, snow peas, mushrooms, and broccoli and the Jia’s Super Fit Shrimp Salad (avocado, greens, tomatoes, green beans and sesame oil dressing). Starters include Amoy Spring Rolls, an ode to Huang’s hometown in China, and a soft-shell crab app. The space, home to popular Chinese eatery Szechwan Pavilion in the 1990s, more recently housed an erratic string of failed eateries (Crudo Italian, Cucina Neighborhood Italian, Mi Piaci and Ocho Kitchen & Cocktails)." - Tierney Plumb

Wonderful experience! Not in-China "authentic" but amazing nonetheless. Appetizers were the peppers and wontons. Wontons were incredible! House spicy sauce on side (off-menu item) is a must for dipping and accent. Peppers were "good+". We didn't hit a single hot one (it's supposed to be spice roulette). Dragon and Phoenix was a very good plate, Phoenix shrimp was my favorite food of the evening. Spicy pork with garlic sauce was very good, as was the beef. The virgin sushi roll (so called for being riceless and wrapped in cucumber shaving) was delicious BUT falls apart completely if you try to bite from the very-large slices, forcing you to eat it in one bite like a thin hockey puck to the mouth. We didn't do dessert, but we did do drinks. Mai Tai is off-menu and great! Lychee martini is A+, just be prepared for a lot of syrup in it. Tokyo Mule was very regrettable. Lemon Drop martini was very bitter (I didn't try that one directly, but the other 3 all did). 2.5 hours and $220 (before tip, for 4 ppl) later, my palette was very satisfied but I felt like I still needed dinner. It did not feel filling at all, despite how much food I'd had. 9/10 will definitely go back. Oh and the atmosphere is incredible. They even had a solo musician playing, and he was great - playing multiple instruments, vocals, and personality. Best of all he kept the volume low so you could hear him clearly but still have a normal table conversation (and we were the corner table, which was closest to him)! P.S. Jia is my wife's "generational" name (first half of "given" name in Chinese culture), so it felt extra-special! Hence the posing with the signs.

Google
Cute intimate spot for date night. Easy to find and parking in front of building and the parking garage on side of building. I visited on a busy night but staff was attentive and checked on my table often. Personally, cocktails could have been stronger. Food was great there was no long wait to be served.

Google
The food is excellent, one of the best Chinese in town. I recommend the Mongolian beef. The egg drop soup is also excellent. Ask to sit upstairs for more of a loungy and hip vibe. That area is definitely my favorite part of the restaurant. Everyone is friendly and truly delivers an authentic experience. It would get 5 stars if there were more specialty drink options and the old fashioned was a little more crafted.

Google
The sushi was really good! They were open until 10pm which was perfect for a simi late night eat! The only thing I didn't care for was their chopsticks because they were large in length and circumference. All in all very good! They also had a live band as well!

Google
My wife and I were in the area and dropped in for supper. We both had the delicious hot and sour soup. She had the Singapore noodles and very much enjoyed it. I had the pork with hot garlic sauce. It was superb. Edit: Went back again. This time she had the pork with garlic sauce and I had kung pao chicken and we had Yang Zhou fried rice. Our granddaughter had orange chicken. It was all delicious. They were very busy but the service was good. They had live music: a guy who played everything from Stevie Ray Vaughn to Carlos Santana. Very enjoyable evening.

Google
Good vibes, perfect for date night and good fresh high-quality Chinese food. The staff was super attentive, it was an overall great experience. Parking is a little sparse but they do have valet

Google
Great neighborhood Chinese restaurant. The food is consistently good across the board. We enjoyed the Mongolian Beef, Moo Goo Gai Pan, Fried Rice and Hot and Sour Soup. Service is brisk and friendly. The atmosphere is a little quirky and the space always seems to be less than half full, but otherwise a good experience.

Google
We had a great time here! Everything was very good including the wontons, pot stickers (but we will try fried next time), fried rice, and rolls. We’ll be back for sure and next time I want to try the cocktail that they set on fire.

Mary G.

Yelp
Went on a Saturday night - great atmosphere, every table taken but it didn't feel loud or crowded. We ordered a mix of Chinese food and sushi. The potsticker appetizer was really good, and I thought the sushi was high quality. They also had some more simple roll options, which I appreciate, a lot of places just have super rich, fancy rolls (they have those too!). I will be returning for the food. But this place has a deeper place in my heart because I dropped my wallet in their parking lot just before closing. They went above and beyond to get it back to me - even driving to my old address (on my DL) and finding me on social media. I feel bad about the time they spent on my mistake, but clearly they value their customers and doing the right thing. I went to get my wallet and they were incredibly gracious about it, given how much they were inconvenienced. I don't write reviews but I wanted to write this one (they didn't ask me to) because I really appreciate the restaurant, food, and staff. Thank you!

David W.

Yelp
I was there last night the food was awful. In my entire life have I every had sweet wasabi. I think they took there wasabi and diluted down some how with something and it turned it sweet. The fish wash lack luster poor quality. The service was terrible. The bartender did not even know how to make a dry martini. She used sweet red vermouth. The portions were terrible. They use Crab with a K the fake stuff as there crab. The fish was sliced so thin on the rolls you could see through it. STAY AWAY this place needs to close

Ray F.

Yelp
Silly me, seen this place for years and never tried it! Lots of parking, not overly crowded except Fri-Sunday. It has a bar and a few tables plus has take out down to a science! MASSIVE menu! Great tasting food! decent price! I did take out and I won't embarrass myself and tell you all I ordered. I nearly burst at the seams (that I didn't know I had). Staff is friendly and helpful. I'll be back in the future (more likely sooner).

Michael K.

Yelp
I want to love this place. Food is good but when ordering delivery on doordash rhe dasher waited an HOUR for the food. Absurd.

Dena F.

Yelp
What happened? Did it change owners? I used to love this place and now I probably won't be back. First, we have to take about the smell. It's bad. It's coming from the bathroom and has been a problem for over year. I was willing to just sit in the opposite corner because I loved the food, but not so much now. The food quality has gone way down. I've been told that they are out of things on the menu repeatedly, one night they were out of iced tea. There's literally a Tom Thumb in the parking lot. A few days ago I ordered Sweet and Sour Chicken with Pineapple. I was basically given chicken nuggets--which were not as good as Raising Cane's next door, some pieces of onion and green pepper, and canned pineapple. The neon pink super runny sweet and sour sauce was in a bowl on the side. The sauce was so runny it did not adhere to the rest of the meal. For the money, I can get better food elsewhere.

Yelp
We try very hard to be ardent supporters of our neighborhood eating spots. We were super excited when Jia Gaston first opened and frequent it often. Both in house and takeout. But we have also noticed that the customer care trajectory as time has gone on has eroded. Significantly. Tonight was my last straw. Their posted hours says they close at 9. I put in a takeout order at 8:32 (see image). Pulled in front of store at 8:45. The entire staff seemed to be running out the front door to their cars at the same time. The restaurant was dark. I asked "Closing early?". "Kitchen closes at 8:45 came the chorus.". (Guess the store does too, despite what the posted hours are.). "Well I placed an order about 15 minutes ago. Nothing in Toast app indicated it would be anything but ready when I got there. It's been charged to my card. "One young lady said they had no outstanding take out orders. I showed her my order on my phone. She invited me back in to look at her computer. And, right there in black and white was my order on the screen. She then said, "Oh. That's for tomorrow.". She obviously failed to grasp how unacceptable that response was. You can kind of guess where it went from there. Good thing Raising Canes is right next door. If you're going to turn out the lights and lock the doors 15 minutes early, fix your posted hours. I have no idea how I'll get my money back.

Yelp
Jia is my new go-to Asian restaurant go-to in DFW! Not only are there sushi rolls, noodle dishes, and drinks delicious, but they also have AMAZING happy hour deals! (Also a plus that they sell lemonade as I've found that many places around DFW do not). I have experience Jia both for Dine In and Carry Out, and the staff is always friendly, the food is always flavorful and fresh, and if you dine in, even if it is your first visit, you'll feel like a regular! The staff is attentive & friendly! I HIGHLY recommend you check this place out!

Justine A.

Yelp
First time here and it didn't disappoint. The staff was very friendly and fast. The food was delicious. We started with the egg drop soup very flavorful homemade crisp wonton strips too. Our main entrees were general Tso chicken (hearty serving) and crispy beef emphasis on crispy which was a good thing. Kudos to the chef. We have added this to our rotation now. Oh and there was live music on Saturday night. Great place for a date or family.

Elisa M.

Yelp
The sign outside mentioned happy hour so I waited around waiting for happy hour to start. I went in and was greeted and I asked about happy hour. I was told it was only for dine in and I was given a menu for what happy hour consisted of. Sadly for me it was sushi rolls which is not what I was in the mood for so I declined to just order something and go. Went with the soup and asked for extra fried wontons for the soup. The extra wontons cost almost as much as the soup itself. Overall the soup was good, I'd have it again however compared to other Chinese spots this place is on the upper price end.

Becca M.

Yelp
Great Shrimp Kung Pao! Can't NOT order it, eating in or takeout. Enjoyed the fresh Imperial Summer Rolls. (Sure wish they had corn patties.) Wonderful service! Pic is a small serving from the larger plate!

Jordyn B.

Yelp
The food wasn't that great to be honest. We did take out so maybe it's better fresh. The flavors just weren't that great.

Neva T.

Yelp
Good food & service everything is AWESOME. Only thing is they need to work on is the sticky floor & the smell of old dirty mop slightly sewage smell.

Christiann R.

Yelp
Stopped by for a couple of rolls and edamame. I had the spider roll and the shrimp tempura roll. I asked for both rolls to have the rice on the outside and they had no problem accommodating my request. Both rolls were fresh and so delicious! Don't sleep on this spot! The presentation was beautiful too! My spider roll came on a plate with a "web" made of eel sauce! Loved it! Will be back!

Rod L.

Yelp
Staff is rude and argumentative. Go somewhere else for Asian food unless you want to be treated like a burden to them. I won't be back and encourage others not to support Jia.

Moises T.

Yelp
Food is delicious, fast and great employees I recommend the fried chicken rice, it's really good. The sushi is also great, specifically the Lakewood sushi.

Megan C.

Yelp
To go order review. Sunday afternoon placed an order for pick up. 1. Tom kha kai soup 2. Chicken fried rice 3. Crispy beef with white rice TOTAL (incl tip) = $53 The call to restaurant for the order went smoothly. Pick up went smoothly. No service issues. Price is high compared to other chinese bistros. I realize their main location is in Preston Hollow and the location and ambiance go with the price of their food. This location is not higher end dining and prices should reflect a more casual dine in location. Crispy beef was tasty. Not overly spicy. Thinly strips if fried beef in a sweet sauce. Nothing to rave about. The chicken in the fried rice was bland and had no flavor. I added broccoli for an up charge and received two small trees. The rice itself had a nice texture and the serving was large; again, overall for the price paid, there are restaurants nearby with better flavor. The tom kha kai broth was yummy! I personally do not like the large chunks of bell pepper, prefer small, and green beans is a nice add. There were no mushrooms as listed on the description. I would order this again. The price paid for food left us underwhelmed. Unlikely to return unless a friend has to try it and will accompany. If you want their full experience, i would suggest the main location.

Sunny N.

Yelp
I understand that accidents and mistakes happen, but am a big believer in how you handle your mistakes that can make all the difference. Jia not only messed up our order but left critical things out LIKE RICE and refused to send a delivery driver to fix the mistake that they made. Frankly the Manager could not have cared less. Mediocre food and horrendous service makes you never want to patronize them again. We won't.

Marco P.

Yelp
I came to this little hidden gym the other day and it was pretty much another dimension. I loved it. Nice candy nice people. Everything was perfect. Very clean place perfection almost.

Raquel M.

Yelp
Love that Jia has opened. I've been to the jia in Preston center multiple times. The food was excellent at the bistro as well. The space itself is a little tight on the inside. The staff was very nice & food came out great. The lo mein & the lettuce wraps were the best part of the meal.

Quinn c.

Yelp
This place is DELICIOUS. We showed up before they were early (THEY OPEN AT 3 ON MONDAYS!) the server sat us anyways and was very nice. A nice date with drinks dinner and desert was a great price for such good food and good service! This place is the bomb! Thanks to whoever sat us dude with the tattoo sleeves!

Chelsea O.

Yelp
Solid dinner spot. The inside is warm and super cute. They had a pianist singing when we went it - perfect volume and he was really good. Service was fast and efficient. Food was spot on - huge portions for the entrees and the sushi was fresh. We will be back!

Diana D.

Yelp
Dear Jia, On behalf of East Dallas, I would like to welcome you to the neighborhood. It's been a long time since we've had even moderately good Chinese food. While my first visit wasn't perfect, it showed a lot of promise. The interior is clean, inviting and well appointed. Service was gracious, attentive and accessible. The menu includes the typical Chinese-ish dishes we are all familiar with, but also includes common Thai-like specialties including Pad Thai and Tom Yum soup, as well as a respectable Japanese and sushi offering. I started with the Imperial Summer Roll, which had plenty of shrimp. It was very, very good. I asked for some sriracha to complement the accompanying peanut sauce. I also had the Spicy beef salad. I was less enchanted by this dish. It was overdressed, the beef was pre-cooked and served cold, which seemed unusual. Despite mentioning that I like spicy food and request spice-level 3 after my server suggested 2, my meal was completely void of heat. When I mentioned it, my server brought an assortment of spice options that included jalapeños, spicy chili oil, chili flakes and a wicked looking marinated chilis I was afraid to try. I used the chili oil, but I would have preferred my Spicy Beef Salad to be served as God intended. All that said, I will definitely try Jia again!

Mike R.

Yelp
Been there 3 times now and they were closed for various issues or slow business. Keep hearing good things about their food but they need to be open when they says they're gonna be open.

Clarissa S.

Yelp
Food is always fresh & delicious. Staff is great. Food is quick. Cute spot I give it a 10/10.

Wayne H.

Yelp
It's nice to see new business . It's nice to have the variety of sushi , Thai and Chinese. But prepared for sticker shock on entrees. They appear to have a good take out business. The prices seem high for the ambiance of a strip mall. Great presentation. Entrees are borderline on size for splitting. $14 drinks at a "fast food style" restaurant is a bit much. It was tasty, but worth about $10. $8 California roll. Standard recipe, tough to mess up. $25 crispy beef. Very flavorful, but could use more broccoli. Wait staff was friendly, the manager was quick to seat us. For the price and quality there are other options like Howard Wangs. I'll give it anytry

Bob S.

Yelp
Super-casual vibe, big portions, nice ambience, fast & friendly service. Great Mother's Day dinner & they didn't break the bank. Live music was a nice touch. We've done take-out. Glad we finally dined in. We'll be back.

Eric N.

Yelp
they need to get better in service they look like there where ready to go home 1,1/2 hour before they close ,, So they won't pay attention to costumers for the price they charge,, 3 apps 2 rolls and 2 soft drinks $73

Sarah O.

Yelp
Consistently good food here. The pork wontons in chili sauce are delicious and I love the drunken noodles. The tofu is not mushy and slightly toasted - perfect. The 4/5 spice level is not too hot. Our server was very attentive and friendly. Cute place, nicer than your basic Chinese restaurant. Really happy it's in the neighborhood!!

Jaye H.

Yelp
Great location, good variety, and the menu has a good layout. Oh, and the dining area is gorgeous! I was able to get an appetizer, drink, and entree for only $28.00! If you live in Lakewood, this restaurant is a must. Since Snow Pea closed, this area needs a good Chinese-Thai-Japanese eatery and this place more than exceeded my expectations. And the Pad Thai was perfect.

Simple R.

Yelp
Wonderful food and service. Simple as that. Just really good stuff! Everything I've gotten here is tasty

Steve M.

Yelp
Went there for dinner yesterday, menu shows a happy hour available, but when I inquired about the deal, they stated that was only for Grand Open, though that was not stated on the menu. You should not advertise a special on the menu that is not a permanent special, that is what flyers and inserts are for. $18 for a poorly made old fashioned is a total rip off, you don't even offer top shelf liquors in the drink as an option. It didn't even have a big Ice cube, no idea why the old fashioned is $18 when all the other cocktails are $14. The schezuan beef I had was excellent, the only saving grace of this entire experience.

John B.

Yelp
Great food. I always get the pork wontons in chili sauce, and the drunken noodles. Both dishes are super flavorful.

Kaylee C.

Yelp
Customer service was good. The food was average it reminded me of pei wei. The thai beef salad is not thai beef they use Chinese beef and the quality is like panda express. The salt & pepper prawns were really good! I also ordered the spicy hamachi roll which was good. The angry bird roll was a 6/10. Didnt like the texture of the roll. The crab ragoons and spicy tuna nacho's were super good!! Overall this place is just alright.

Kelly L.

Yelp
I had the Lakewood Roll (pictured missing a piece because I was impatient). It was 10/10! I also had the summer rolls and -WOW- might be the best I've ever had. Inhaled before thinking to review. They were exceptionally fresh with just the right amount of crunchy sprouts, shrimp, mint, etc, and the perfect hint of ginger. Husband ordered the Spicy Tuna Nachos (10/10 - I wanted to steal all of his) and Orange Chicken (he said it was really good). Have to take a star because we had sticker shock. It was over $70 for our *take out order* with 2 apps and two mains. I wouldn't mind that price for a night out, but it's just a little extravagant for take out.

John P.

Yelp
Wasn't sure what to expect given it's in a strip mall next to Starbucks, but I was pleasantly surprised. Not fancy or classy per se, but good food and good service and good prices. What more can you want?

Toby C.

Yelp
The Service was 5 stars! Beef Thai salad - 1 star, terrible, worst I have ever had. It didn't taste like any Thai beef salad I have ever had and the beef was like orange beef and not thinly sliced grilled beef. Prawn with Spicy salt - Amazing! 5 stars Hot and sour soup- traditional, delicious, 5 stars Crab rangoon - 5 stars, perfectly crispy Hamachi and angry bird rolls were very average, rice was not fresh and the wasabi was like play doh, gross - 2 stars The pricing is not in line with the low quality of the food, it's maybe a step above Panda or Pei Wei. It's nice inside and the service was great, just wish the food was better. Overall not worth it and there are much better options for the price range.

Linda W.

Yelp
Are here last night and was not impressed. The food was okay, had their red curry. The service was terrible and they weren't even busy. We had to flag down a server when we wanted anything, from ordering a drink, an appetizer, our entree. The kitchen area is open so you can see the employees standing around chatting with each other instead of paying attention to their customers. They were doing a good take out business, may try that next time...maybe not.

Mar M.

Yelp
The food her is really good but the prices are way too high for what you get - $25 for Moo Goo Gai Pan is just ridiculous, should be $16-$18 tops. The sushi is good but go during happy hour, again too expensive. They are not competitive in pricing.

Alex B.

Yelp
Food is over rated and over priced for the quality I was expecting the best Asian food in Dallas for a small portion of General Zso for $25 I've never paid that much for dish and it was mediocre I've made better in my kitchen anyway I gave the lady $30 and she kept my change didn't bring it back till I made her and it was take out lol like she did anything to deserve a tip smh don't go here might as well go to Panda

Rosalinda G.

Yelp
My first visit to Jia's Asian Bistro and I plan on visiting this restaurant regularly in the future. My SO and I shared the combination fried rice, and combination lo mein. They were delicious entrees. The lo mein was my favorite! The noodles were savory and soft even my little one enjoyed this dish! The entrees we chose were great for sharing! We also tried the edamame as an appetizer, which was seasoned with just enough salt for added taste. And I also tried the shrimp tempura, which was the best I've tried in a while! The spicy mayo was so good too and had a kick to it. The service was great and efficient! There isn't a kids menu available for anyone with kiddos. But as I previously mentioned, my little one did well with the lo mein. The ambiance of the restaurant is cute. It's dim, yet inviting, and is a good spot for a casual date. No pictures because I was too busy enjoying my food.

Roshani A.

Yelp
The drunken noodles are actually amazing, a princess tip would be asking them for the spice bowl, to add spices to your dish! It comes with red chili paste, jalapeños and more yummy spicy stuff!! The service is also flawless! The ambiance is everything!!

Lindsay T.

Yelp
I ordered dinner via google yesterday to pick up after my workout class. I definitely recommend ordering via google. I checked the UberEats and their prices were a lot different than the Jia online menu. Ordering was easy and fast. They were out of the ingredients to make my spider roll but were helpful and recommended another roll to replace it. I ordered the Sexy Mama roll, shrimp tempura and the Eel roll. Everything was packed nicely to-go, with all sauces on the side, lots of wasabi and ginger and chop sticks. I will definitely place a pickup order again when I'm in the neighborhood.

Stephanie M.

Yelp
I came here for the first time and Isaac W was my server. He was attentive and friendly. We appreciated him! Nice experience, good food.

Russ M.

Yelp
Great newish restaurant in Lakewood area. Terrific menu with Chinese, Thai and sushi options. Food is wonderfully prepared and delivered in large servings. Service is also terrific

Paola A.

Yelp
Delicious Food, Great Service... Asian And Thai Food Options... Loved It Definitely Coming Back.. Highly Recommend..

Tuff C.

Yelp
Good food, good service, Nice place, Price is high though. Traffic around the restaurant is cramped during rush hours, avoid visit during these time.

Hoyt D.

Yelp
Yummmy!! I am so glad they opened up a location here. Food is fantastic and service is even better! My go to is the orange peel chicken but I like to try and order something different every visit! Delicious!

Joe A.

Yelp
Food is excellent and portions are priced right. Funky location given the construction but worth it. Clean, simple ambience and attentive service makes this a great Chinese experience.

Nichole B.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick casual dinner and I had a great experience! The service was great and all of the staff are super friendly and kind. The menu is really broad and very reasonably priced for what you get. Our food came out quickly, and the sushi was actually really great. They also boxed up what we had to take home for us, as the portions were really big. I'm so glad to welcome this new restaurant to our neighborhood. I'll definitely be back soon!
