New Restaurant Openings for Seattle, May 2025 | Eater Seattle

"This upscale Chinese chain opened its first West Coast location inside the upscale Bravern mall in Bellevue; the Seattle Times reports the spot is 8,000 square feet and is the chain’s largest. The Times also recommends the deep-fried battered bullfrog, which is served with rice cakes." - Harry Cheadle

Peking duck is more show than substance at Jiang Nan - Review - Seattle - The Infatuation

"This upscale, New York-based Chinese restaurant chain has a massive location at The Bravern (aka the Beverly Hills of Bellevue). But the grandiose setting with chandeliers, red velvet curtains, and walls lined with prop books straight out of a scene from Clue doesn’t match the disappointing food. Their signature peking duck is dry with limp greasy skin that flops over like a deflated balloon. The salt and pepper shrimp trends rubbery, and the complimentary cabbage appetizer is probably the highlight of the meal. Nothing here is tragic, but considering the elegant atmosphere, it should be much better. For great Chinese food in Bellevue, look elsewhere. Food Rundown Complimentary Pickled Cabbage This just shows up at your table shortly after you sit down. It’s refreshing, crunchy, a little spicy, heavy on the vinegar (in a good way), and also easy to snack on all night. photo credit: Kayla Sager-Riley Peking Duck All the fixings, including impressively matchstick-thin cucumbers, arrive on a beautiful wood tray. But the duck itself is gamey and dry—not even the most artfully arranged accompaniments can save it. photo credit: Kayla Sager-Riley Cumin Lamb There’s a whole show involved when the server lights the lamb on fire and lets it sizzle at the table. Unfortunately, the blaze ends up being more exciting than the food itself, since powdery cumin dominates the dish. photo credit: Kayla Sager-Riley Salt And Pepper Shrimp The shrimp is dry, with a thick, rubbery breading that overwhelms the delicate seafood. However, the seasoning strikes a nice balance of salty and tangy. photo credit: Kayla Sager-Riley Mapo Tofu Even with all the oil and the lack of mouth-numbing Sichuan punch, this saucy tofu dish is relatively satisfying. photo credit: Kayla Sager-Riley" - Kayla Sager-Riley

We had a wonderful dining experience here! The roast duck was absolutely delicious — perfectly cooked with crispy skin and rich flavor. The restaurant has a great atmosphere, very comfortable and welcoming. The staff were friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better. The braised pork tasted authentic and full of depth, and the soup was especially fresh and flavorful. Although the dishes took a bit of time to arrive, everything was well worth the wait. Overall, an excellent restaurant that I would definitely recommend!

Got mixed feelings about this place. The food is good, standouts are the seafood fried rice with lots of wok hei, Peking duck, winter melon soup and chili chicken. Real problem was the service. Sort of plopped every dish as it came out randomly, not soup to star two fried rices at different times. Idk if it's a restaurant week thing but the out of order of the dishes being served and service being as formal as Applebee's sort of clash with the setting of the restaurant as well as some price and food there. Not great dishes were the 小笼包 the wrapping seems thick and feels like a high quality frozen one. Fried fish skins were a bit of a miss, not that they were bad but felt like it came out of a snack bag. The clam was fantastic though. Little apprehensive to bring mom here but it's not an outright no.

One of the best meals I’ve had in Seattle — hands down. From the moment we walked in, everything from the service to the atmosphere felt warm and inviting. But the real star here is the food. Every dish was packed with flavor, thoughtfully prepared, and beautifully presented. You can tell the kitchen takes real pride in what they do. We tried a few different things on the menu, and honestly, there wasn’t a single miss. Everything tasted fresh and balanced, with just the right mix of comfort and creativity.

We came to this restaurant several times when it's soft opening... It's kind of restaurant that finds success with strong brand from new York with good design and service. However with such a luxury location and pricing, food is rather lacking but it does look good! How often do you just want to feel good with the space and vibe?

Google
Came here for lunch as part of seattle restaurant week: the food here is phenomenal. The depth, the complexity of flavor, the presentation and service were all top notch. I was genuinely emotional and moved to tears due to the food. 30$ well spent. I was full afterwards as well, highly reasonable portion sizes. Dining area is pristine, themed but not overwhelmingly so, very classy. Staff were cordial. Chill electronic music was a vibe 10/10

Google
Great dining experience at Jiang Nan. We saw a lot of the other reviews that talked about the restaurant still figuring things out as they first opened but it seems like they’ve worked out a lot of the kinks! Great service with very friendly staff and yes, you can see the menu and order through your iPad but you can also call the waitstaff over with a button and they were able to make all of these dietary accommodations for us, including leaving cheese out of certain dishes, as well as removing meat from certain dishes for my vegetarian wife. As for the food, it was delicious! The fried rice with black truffle was great, so were the fried noodles and crispy sliced beef. I definitely want to come back and try their Beijing roasted duck, which comes in a half and whole duck variety. All in all, would recommend coming here and we will be coming back. They validate parking, plenty of parking in the garage for the building, very safe and nice building, and it is located next to John Howie (this restaurant is where the old Sugar Factory was).

I recently visited Jiang Nan in Bellevue, and wow - what an experience! From the moment you walk in, the restaurant feels welcoming and stylish, with a cozy yet modern vibe that makes it perfect for a relaxed lunch or dinner. I have to talk about the Peking duck - it was absolutely amazing. I've had authentic Peking duck in Beijing, and even then, I've never had it quite as flavorful and perfectly cooked as here. The skin is perfectly crispy, the meat juicy, and everything comes with those delicate pancakes and fresh cucumbers - it's obvious they put so much care into every detail. The staff is also incredibly friendly and helpful, guiding us through the menu, which has a great mix of traditional dishes and creative twists. If you're looking for a spot with great food, a welcoming atmosphere, and a must-try Peking duck, Jiang Nan in Bellevue should detinitely be on your list. I'il absolutely be coming back!

Came for the food, stayed for Jada. The hostess was an absolute vibe, poised, warm, and smoother than the lighting at Jiang Nan (and that’s saying something). She turned what could’ve been a “meh” dinner into a full red-carpet experience. If Michelin gave stars for hospitality, Jada would already have three. WE WILL COME BACK!

Yelp
Fancy decorating and pricy food. They have very fancy way of presenting food but taste not higher than the expectation. Hope they could be more on the ground of food flavoring.

Yelp
First time eating at Jiang Nan for dinner. Food overall was very flavorful. Food didn't come out as temperature hot as expected. We ordered the following items - crispy slice beef with lime sauce: sweet and sour flavor, sauce is sticky. Seafood fried noodles: the noodles is a thick udon texture. Deed fried chicken & crispy dough twist - perfect balance of saltiness. White rice, perfect to share with 2-3 people The cocktails are really good. Service was a bit slow. You handle everything on a tablet. Server didn't stop by our table unless we notified them on the tablet or if food/drinks were placed. Ambiance is very pretty, clean, and modern.

Yelp
Jiang Nan is located in the Bravern mall, right across the John Howie Steakhouse. We walked into a nicely decorated room with lots of chandeliers. The table setting had pretty plates and white chopsticks. We were promptly seated by a very charming hostess, who put down an IPad for us to do the ordering, no other printed menus given, so it was a bit awkward for 6 of us to read the menu. And no waiter to give us recommendations. So after a little while we managed to order the drinks first. Then dinner. The sautéed pea sprouts with garlic came out first, it was good. Then the cauliflowers. The children were like " what, only veggies.." but then they brought out the sweet and sour pork and they were all happy. The shrimp and walnuts were delicious, and also the sweet and sour pork, both delicately crunchy and so perfect. We ordered a whole Peking duck, and the presentation was different from most other restaurants. Instead of the crispy skin sitting on top of the meat, this duck was sliced skin and meat together. Nevertheless it was good also, not too greasy. The handpicked crab dish came in beautiful silver crab shaped pots but it was a mystery to me to figure this dish out. It did not look like crab, it tasted like crab, but it is a thick consistency creamy like mixture to mix with rice. Last were the noodles, ordered for the kids, but my grandson was happy with the duck drumsticks that he didn't want the chow mein. Service was mainly provided by the food runners/ bussers. When it was time for us to leave, I had to get up and go find " the waiter" , who swiped my card and told me to return to my table, but then asked me to sign on the tablet ‍‍. I asked for a receipt and he never brought it. I also need to mention I pressed many times on the " call staff " button on the tablet, but nothing happened. That's why I got up to go find a waiter. I really want this restaurant to survive because I like the food, but it needs to improve front of the house service badly. More waiters ( no rude ones ) on the floor to interact with the guests, to give explanations and recommendations on the menu. I don't know how they can say they are " Michelin recommended " when I deal mostly with a tablet.

Yelp
Very late post (sorry!). They had their grand opening a week ago (it was months ago...remember this is a late post). There are a few operational things they need to work on still, like improved front of the house experience and having their alcoholic beverages on the menu to name a couple. (I'm hoping they had worked out the kinks...again this is a late post). Located at The Bravern (hint: pricey). We've never been at this establishment before and wished a server asked and explained how things are done -- you're provided a tablet where you place your order. It even has a button to call server. Great to be able to choose your food via the pictures (it has the food name, but I like the visual). Ok, we've been back since our first visit and brought friends and I'm combining the food we ordered from our visits. Needless to say, we enjoyed our first visit and decided to bring friends. We were served a small dish of pickled vegetables (mostly cabbage) as we peruse through the menu. What we had: You're served pickled cabbage as you peruse Peking Duck (Half Duck) - very tasty! Home Style Crispy Fish Fillet (cold dish) - ok I missed the "cold dish" on the menu but glad we ordered this. So flavorful! Because I didn't know that it was a cold dish and was expecting it to be hot, my first bite gave me mixed emotions, but in the end, the flavor won me over. Mega Lamb Skewer - the presentation was pretty cool -- lamb meat on metal skewer and the wait staff blow torch it table side (it was already cooked, so it was just done for effect). A bit tough but tasty. Stir-fried String Bean with minced pork (mild spicy) - loved how the string beans still had crunch! Another flavorful dish. Kimchi Cheese Fried Rice (mild spicy) - another winner! Loved how some of the rice surface was crunchy. Vegetarian Spring Roll (2) Steamed black truffle & Pork Soup Dumpling (4) Braised Pork Belly in Black Tea Sauce Deep-fried Tiger Trawn with Salty Egg Yolks Hand-peeled Crab meat - here's another one that I missed on the menu that this is a rice dish. Not bad, but nothing to rave about. Hardly tasted the crab meat. Sauteed Pea Sprouts (Vegan) - this was a hit in our group! Very tasty! All of the food was very flavorful. We didn't have any dish that we didn't like. Portion is ok -- for the price, it's not good value. But remember, you are paying "The Bravern" price. For drinks we had (all were good). Tangerine Peel Puer Tea (Pot) Kumquat Lemon Tea Mixed Fruit Tea Blood of Unicorn (cocktail) Jiang Nan (cocktail) Lychee Martini Coconut Tini Pineapple Beer Service on both visits were good. You can join their loyalty club to gain points which you can redeem once you hit a certain number of points. Not sure if points expire.

Yelp
A beautiful balance between modern fusion and traditional Chinese dining. The interior design is elegant with a timeless, classic vibe that immediately sets the tone for a refined experience. Service was attentive, friendly, and welcoming--present but never overbearing. The menu offers classic Chinese dishes with a modern twist, all beautifully presented and full of flavor. It is on the pricier side, but given the location at The Bravern in Downtown Bellevue, it's exactly what you'd expect-- worth it for a special occasion.

Yelp
I really hate to write a one-star review, but my experience at Jiang Nan Bellevue was so disappointing that it truly deserves it. The evening started off fine -- our server took our order, and the mango yakult and oolong tea were actually quite good. The appetizers came out next, and while they tasted pretty good, a few items were missing. Then things started to go downhill fast. We ordered five duck dishes, but only four plates came out initially. The fifth didn't arrive until the very end of the meal. We were also missing two soups for half the dinner, and part of the order was incorrect. When we tried to clarify things, the staff seemed confused and indifferent. The only person who showed any warmth was the hostess, who was very nice, but still lacked proper help or training for her role. What really shocked me was how poorly managed the entire restaurant seemed. The location inside the Bellevue Bravern, which is supposed to be a high-end mall, sets certain expectations -- and this restaurant didn't meet any of them. The staff looked unprofessional, dressed in sneakers and casual clothes, and there was no sense of organization or training. It honestly felt like the place was run by unsupervised high schoolers with no management oversight. The service was some of the worst I've seen, especially for a restaurant trying to position itself as fine dining. Even an Olive Garden would've provided better service and attention. When we asked our server how large the Seattle Restaurant Week duck dish would be, he said it was supposed to be one-quarter of a duck. What we actually received was a tiny plate with just a few slices -- definitely not close to that portion. After looking over the full menu, we realized even their whole duck dish was small compared to other fine dining spots that serve Peking Duck. When we politely brought up the issue (along with the other service problems), our server seemed overwhelmed and just brushed it off. A few dishes, like the appetizers and soups, were quite enjoyable -- but that's about the only positive thing I can say. Overall, this restaurant feels like a case of poor management, untrained staff, and a lack of attention to detail, which completely ruins what could've been a nice dining experience. Despite the Michelin recommendation at their New York location, don't be fooled -- this Bellevue branch is nowhere near that level. If things don't change fast, I honestly don't see this restaurant lasting more than a year.

Yelp
I came here for lunch during Seattle Restaurant Week with my partner and thought it was fun to try this place out. First impression, the decor was nice like you're in an upscale Chinese hotel. Food was mediocre. Some of the items on the SRW menu were "out of stock" despite that the restaurant just opened. If you advertised an item on your menu, you're expected to have it or substitute with something else. I was sad that I didn't get to try their duck spring roll, which was the main purpose of trying this restaurant out. This was a disappointment. The thing that I was put off was how the server did not provide us with any service since we're ordering from the SRW menu. We only saw him when we were ready to pay. I mean what's the point of trying a fine dining restaurant if the server doesn't acknowledge you or know how to provide customer service. I do appreciate the other staffs coming around each tables to refill waters. Overall, this restaurant is overrated and is just another Chinese restaurant with expensive price tag. I rather pay more for better service.

Yelp
Sigh... I really wanted this to be a place I would go back to. Unfortunately with the high prices and the small portion sizes I won't be. The menu on the ipad was convenient but they accidentally linked our table and another table to the same order and the other table ended up deleting everything we had selected so we didn't start out on the best foot. The waiters were nice and resolved our issue quickly. The overall service was great. The only thing I noticed was they seemed to be waiting around for something to do which was kind of awkward with their station being right by our table. The decor gave the impression of wanting the place to feel fancy and high end but with it being almost empty for dinner on a Sunday evening; the vibe was giving more dated and forgotten. Final and most important thought: The food was good and good quality. Don't get me wrong on that but the portions were small and the prices were so incredibly high especially for their rice and noodle dishes.

Yelp
The signature Peking Duck isn't as fatty as others but still very tasty if you eat while hot. The best part is getting the optional duck bone soup add on. The grilled fish was pretty tasty as well. Loved the string beans. I didn't try the soup dumpling while hot but there was really no soup when I got to it. Love mini tangerine puerh tea and as it is served by the pot you can pretty much add infinite hot water refills for free and it keeps getting better. It's order by tablet but you have to call over a server to actually pay. Service is great. The Bravern directory map signs don't show the restaurant entrance but it is right next to John Howie.

Yelp
Parking: free parking garage Location: same Floor and across from John Howie Restroom: outside the restaurant in between the restaurant and John Howie This place supposedly is a michelin guide restaurant. We ordered: Stir fry shredded cabbage with pork belly Bacon and vegetables fried rice Seafood fried noddle Half Peking duck Mapp tofu Crispy shrimp with honey walnut Fatty beef with green onion Smoked pork neck meat Hot tea- charge per pot $9, as many cups as you want and refillable. Overall, everything is just average, kinda too salty for our taste buds. Service is not the best. We ordered from the tablet. The lady just come and confirmed our orders. Then we never see her again. Service is not good and not friendly. Food arrived, none of them say the name of the dishes. This restaurant is overpriced for the food, we dont taste any different from restaurants in Chinatown. Kinda disappointed. The restaurant is very empty.

Yelp
I heard really great things about Jiang Nan from friends in other cities. I tried to visit last month with my friend, but we were turned away - they required reservations at that point. We then made a reservation for May and they were really empty! I guess they were just really popular during the first few weeks. Parking is easy in the Bravern and they also offer parking validation when you leave. Just be sure to bring your ticket up from the garage. The food was just fine. I expected more from the high prices and the hype. I feel like these items can be found at normal Chinese restaurants at a normal price tag, at the same quality. Don't think I would come back. - Sichuan Lamb: 2/5, this was actually overcooked and not very spicy. Similar to what you would get at a Sichuanese restaurant. - Tea Braised Pork Belly: 3/5, cool presentation but the pork belly cubes were a little dry. I did like the tea braised sauce. - Crab Tofu: 5/5, this is the one that made the meal good! I loved that it came in a little crab dish. The crab flavor was great and the it went well with the texture of the tofu. If you come, you have to get this dish.

Yelp
(Review is regarding service on 03/22/25) We arrived shortly before our reservation time, but it took a long time for us to be seated, even though our entire party was present. The staff left the reception table, so we had no one to ask. Once we got seated, it was hard to get the attention of staff to get us waters or order. It was also hard to get the attention of staff to get the check. Food was okay. The decor/interior design seems very out of place for the vibe of the restaurant. Overall disappointed--NYC location is better.

Yelp
The food was good. Favorites were the mushroom fried rice, bacon and vegetable fried rice, the Peking duck, the flank steak with house special sauce, pork soup dumpling, crispy shrimp with honey walnuts, smoked pork neck. Grilled fish was cooked well but it was not as flavorful as expected. Service while nice, was lacking. I didn't feel the employees were well trained for this type of restaurant. Waters were refilled often and dishes cleared, but proactive responses like more wraps for our duck (we ordered a full duck) or refilling the hot tea was lacking. That is why this didn't feel so high end. The decor felt outdated. Empty. Old. Considering this is a new restaurant I was a bit surprised at the decor choice.

Yelp
Some dishes stood out more than others. I really like the seafood stir fry noodles, honey walnut shrimp (best I've had, breading was super thin airy and crispy), and truffle fried rice (nice dense sticky rice type texture w a moderate soy and truffle taste). Peking duck was not as juicy as you would expect but the skin was crispy and flavorful, xlb taste was good but the wrapping was a lil thick if you'd compare to dtf. Staff was really nice and attentive

Yelp
Utterly disappointing, Jian Nan is an overpriced restaurant that serves low quality precooked dried and lukewarm food in dirty dishes after making you wait for 35 mins. The Bravern location has fancy decor but only because it took over most of the interior design from its predecessors, and this is about the only complement I have for Jian Nan. The receptionist coldly demand all party to be here before seating and there's a 2 hours table limit...I'm fine with the rule but when rest of my party arrived 5 mins later, she made us wait another 7 mins to "pull a chair over". Water service was slow and they poured 6 cups of water when there's 7 of us. Zero greeting or menu explanation from waiter who just left one small iPad to order from and every else has to pull menu on their phone as if we are at some cheap eat fast food restaurant. Peking duck is pretty much the worst I've ever had even though it's $100 but tastes like it was made days ago and just microwaved slightly so the skin is soggy, the meat is lukewarm and dried, and all I can taste is this stale flavor in my mouth. I'm not comparing it to top class Peking duck I had at Da Dong Beijing, or Le Palais in Taipei, they are completely at different class. Locally, Jiang Nan's Peking Duck cannot be compared to Baron's Xian's, which is $10 to $30 cheaper (depending on day), even Asian Family Supermarket's Lucky BBQ food court take out roast duck is 10x better. The rest of our meal was also disappointing. The sweet and sour whole fish was a small overbattered and over sauced mess. The appetizer eggplant was tiny and extremely mushy for $17, the truffle fried rice lacked truffles flavor, and the crab and pork soup dumpling has no crab flavor, little soup, and overly thick skin. I honestly haven't had such unpleasant dining experience in a while, giving it a rare 1 star from me.

Yelp
We called Jiang Nan a few days in advance to make a reservation for Saturday at 5:30pm and had no trouble securing a spot. When arriving at The Bravern, it's best to park near the Amethyst (purple) elevators, as they take you directly to the restaurant on the second level. The Amber elevators are the next closest option. Jiang Nan is located directly across from John Howie Steakhouse. Upon entering the spacious entryway, we were immediately greeted by a host (the host stand is also where you can validate parking) and were promptly seated. Our server Kelly was excellent, as she answered all of our questions and was very prompt when we needed something. A tablet was shared with us to order off of, versus a physical menu. The menu is extensive, and it was challenging to pick our items because our mouths watered looking at all the dishes. Our main complaint is that while the food is good, we didn't find it to be as good of a value as the Michelin Guide suggests. We understand that it's located in The Bravern, one of the most luxurious shopping destinations in the Seattle area, but some of the dishes felt overpriced. The half Peking Duck was phenomenal--the Duck wasn't too dry, and the presentation was beautiful. However, $16.95 for four steamed black truffle and pork soup dumplings felt a bit pricey. The wrapper was on the thicker side but had a nice soft texture and held the soup well without breaking. The truffle flavor was subtle, and while they tasted good, I probably wouldn't order them again due to the value. The deep-fried tiger prawns with salted egg yolk for was excellent. The shrimp had the perfect texture, and the breading was tasty. They also mixed in youtiao (Chinese donuts), which was a nice touch. We also tried the shredded eel with scallions in hot oil, a dish that's difficult to execute well. Jiang Nan did a great job with the flavor and texture, though the dish had a bit more starch than necessary. While I enjoyed it, I likely wouldn't order it again. We found the mapo tofu with minced meat reasonably priced. It's spiced well, and the tofu has a nice soft texture. The stir-fried shredded cabbage with pork belly was fantastic. The cabbage was cooked perfectly but still nice and crunchy. Pork belly was tasty, though I would have liked a higher ratio of pork belly to cabbage for this dish. The sautéed pea sprouts in garlic was one of our favorite dishes. The texture was spot on, and the flavor was outstanding. I'd definitely order it again. We also ordered steamed white rice at $2 per serving. I was the only one in my group to order a drink and chose the lychee martini. Unfortunately, the cocktail wasn't very well-balanced, as the vodka overpowered the flavor. I did appreciate the two real lychees in the drink, but I wouldn't order it again. Overall, we had a great experience, but I couldn't bring myself to give this five stars, given the cost of some of the dishes. After tax, the total came to $245.36. We ordered more than the average group of three and chose some pricier dishes (though there are definitely more affordable options like the mapo tofu and cabbage with pork belly). I'm glad we had the chance to try it. I would return for special occasions or if I wanted to impress someone with high-end Chinese fusion.

Yelp
SOFT OPENING Review Food - 3 Stars with alot of potential. The flavors are there, but everything just was not hot enough. Sure, often fine dining is more room temperature, but I don't believe this place will survive unless the food temperature is raised. The menu is expansive + expensive :) Alot of variety and wide range of ingredients. You can taste the potential, what should be there, but is not fully brought out unless temperature is raised on the dishes. Everything was good, but we had to send the soup back, something was not right. The Peking Duck was slight letdown but they notified us of some issue with manufacturer of cooking appliance and they have new replacements coming. Service - 5 Stars. Very attentive, caring, putting great effort to ensure satisfaction. Ambiance - 5 Stars, gonna be alot of gram photos here. Most important thing though is the food temp needs to be raised to bring out more flavor (at least for the dishes we ordered). Best of Luck to them, we'll see.

Yelp
I came to Jiang Nan Bellevue for Seattle Restaurant Week, hoping to give it another chance after a bad service experience last time. Unfortunately, this visit wasn't any better -- this time, it was the food The duck spring roll had a strong, unpleasant smell, like old duck that had been sitting in the fridge too long The tea-braised pork belly was equally disappointing -- the sauce tasted pre-made and never actually soaked into the meat. It felt like two separate components thrown together at the end. The rose Yakult tea looked nice at first, but they used dried-up rose buds as garnish, which didn't add anything to the drink -- just got in the way when drinking. It may add visual, but it shouldn't be something to ruin the experience. (I know it's hard to keep using new rose leaves, but don't just lean to going easy when you are charging premium price) We also ordered the half duck wrap, which took nearly 45 minutes to arrive. When it finally came, the duck itself was fresh and pleasant-tasting, but they only provided five thin wrappers for about 25 pieces of meat. It's obvious they expect customers to pay extra for more wraps. When we tried to order additional wrappers, the ordering tablet froze -- and since the staff heavily rely on it instead of actual table service, it was hard to get anyone's attention for several minutes. It then took extra 10 minutes for the wrappers to come out, which put another pause to our dining experience Lastly, the course menu didn't feel cohesive. Every dish leaned heavily on salty food, with no contrast or balance between flavors. For something meant to represent the restaurant during Seattle Restaurant Week, it felt rushed and poorly thought out For a place located in the Barron's complex, I expected more care and refinement in both flavor and presentation

Yelp
We had a WONDERFUL experience at this Chinese restaurant. We were ready for lunch and my friend googled nearby restaurants and we were lucky this was close. When we walked in, the atmosphere was incredible. Gorgeous aesthetics with service to match! We have a vegan, omnivore, & vegetarian in the group and they were able to modify our dishes if we needed it. I absolutely reccomend this spot for lunch/dinner! Also the sake tini was delicious.

Yelp
I am always excited to try out new restaurants that open up on Eastside, and hearing that Jiang Nan was a well known and loved chain from NY, I was really looking forward to trying out unique flavors that this restaurant had to offer! We went on a Friday around 6:30pm and had a brief wait time to get seated. The restaurant is located in the Bravern apartment/shopping complex - which houses many luxury brands and expensive high dining restaurants. Luckily there is a parking garage right under the complex, and also parking is validated if you bring your parking ticket to the service workers at the restaurant! Do note, I was confused as Jiang Nan wasn't really marked on the map as it was such a new addition at the time of my visit - so I got confused trying to find it. If they haven't added it yet - FYI it's right across from John Howe steakhouse. The ambiance of the restaurant feels high dining with the decor of chandeliers, candles, and dim lighting, but most if not all of the diners were casually dressed. Ordering is done through the tablet and our food got our reasonably fast after we ordered. We got a couple of items, which I'll review down below: (Note: 1 bowl of rice is $3) Stir Fried Cauliflower with Pork Belly ($19): Nicely flavored dish - cauliflower is soft on the exterior and slightly crunchy in the interior. Pork belly slices were thin, but also thick enough to give a satisfying chew. Spices and aromatics were present and were presented in a delicious aftertaste. Now, a couple of critiques - there is no wokhei(锅气)flavor, as in no smokiness that comes from doing a stir fry at a high temperature, which is usually present at other authentic Szechuan restaurants. A lack of pork - there were probably like 4 - 5 slices of pork belly in the dish. After one round of passing between 3 people (only got like 1-2 slices each), it was all out. Deep Fried Japanese Tofu with Mixed Seafood - $22: I feel that this was the tastiest dish that we ordered here. The tofu was fried perfectly - very thin exterior that wasn't oily at all, and a deep and flavorful sauce that was poured at our table. You can eat this without rice and on it's own and it's pleasant to eat. Braise Lion's Head Meat Balls in Brown Sauce - $10: Personally, having tried Chinese meatballs of this size at many other restaurants, I think this was on the side of small and can't really be called a Lion's head meatball. The picture on the menu is more forced perspective - it may look handball sized, but it's more slightly larger than a golfball by like 1-1.5 inches. Other than this size difference, the flavor is decent - nice soy sauce braised glaze and the texture is extremely tender and falls apart easily. Cumin Lamb on Sizzling Plate - $29: Flavor-wise, very robust and hard hitting on the first bite, which is great. You get the spices immediately and a very slight numbness from the peppercorns. As nice as the flavor was, it didn't feel super balanced to me, as the focus was leaning a bit too far on spice rather than a balance with spice and aromatics. I also think for the price, this dish isn't really worth it. I think you can get this exact dish with more balanced flavors and a bit more lamb at similar restaurants on the Eastside for cheaper. I think with most dishes at this restaurant, taste ranges from decent to good - unfortunately nothing amazing. I am also trying to compare this restaurant to the many other amazing Szechuan/Chinese restaurants in the greater Bellevue area, which there are several. I do agree with some of the other reviewers, it is gentrified Chinese food and the quantity and quality does reflect it. Hopefully things look up after the initial set up of the restaurant.

Yelp
located in bravern, came to try the chinese food as it was on the michelin guide. was seated at a round table that was a bit tight for our party of 9. service and food was ok. food: - honey walnut shrimp: always liked this dish - smoked pork neck meat: very smoky flavor - marbled beef and scallion - peking duck: ok, served with thin wonton skin - seafood fried noodle: barely any seafood - bacon and veggie fried rice: nice bacon flavor - cabbage and pork belly - mapo tofu: minced meat and nice sauce

Yelp
Food was decent but nothing to write home about. Service was friendly and seated us quickly without a reservation. The restaurant itself was clean and mondern. I would say that the duck took an exceptionally long time like 30 min+. Either way for the price it was a very average experience but it is a decent spot to just meet with friends because of the plaza it is located in!

Yelp
Parking is really easy, just find the purple elevator on P3 because that's the most direct path to get there. Make sure you bring your parking ticket to be validated at the end. I think it's for 3 hours. The place looked so familiar when I walked in. They really didn't change the interior from when it was sugar factory. The layout is the same with the chandeliers and everything, they just painted the walls white and got red curtains. But it felt classier because of the dimmer lighting. The menu was on a ipad and I really liked the design of it and how easy it was to use for ordering. I just wish they had something like a page number because I couldn't tell how far I was into it and it seemed like I was scrolling forever. Immediately after we ordered, the server came to check and repeat the order to us and I liked that. We ended up wanting to add the $15 soup using the duck remain and it took them a moment to come to us even though we had pressed the call for staff button. As I speaking chinese to the server, I couldn't tell if they understood me so I said the same thing in english again. We ordered a half portion of beijing duck. The meat was tender but the skin wasn't crispy enough in my opinion. We also got truffle fried rice, which was the highlight of the night. The stir fried water spinach had more stems than leaves and there was very little of it in terms of what it was priced at. I did like the garlic taste though. Then there was the sweet and sour fish. There was just too much breading on it for me to taste any of the fish flesh. The sweet and sour sauce was also really thick and it seemed like those pre packaged flavors. Then there was the cumin lamb. They pour some sort of cooking wine on the side and lit it with fire. Cool presentation but there was way too much cumin coating the lamb. I feel like the flavor should've been more immersed in the meat while mildly sprinkling the spice over it. Lastly, came the soup and this was perfect to wash away all the other flavors in my mouth.

Yelp
Just a few weeks after they opened and it was running like a well oiled machine. A large menu with a number of great items. We ordered the dumplings to start, they were awesome. I had the coconut shrimp and the wife had the cumin lamb and everything was great, good portions and we ordered way too much food. Things I want to try next time is the Peking Duck and the smoked pork neck meat. Overall a good addition to the Bravern and very unique!

Yelp
I went to Jiang Nan during its soft opening. It is a solid spot for Chinese food. The fish in chili oil packs a spicy, tender punch, and the smoked pork neck is super smoky and flavorful. Service is friendly, and the vibe is cozy in an upscale area of Bellevue. I'd give it a 4 out of 5, no question.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant.. food is MEH. Very expensive for the amount you get.. and it wasn't even impressive taste-wise. We decided to try this place out for my sister's birthday. I will say service is quick & very responsive. The best dish we ordered was the peking duck w/rice wraps. The duck was amazing and perfectly crispy skin & flavor. We also order the steak which was expensive and tasted too bland. Had nice marbling to it and presented well but nothing memorable. They also added random strawberries with it.. how odd. Dessert menu was very lacking! We wanted to treat my sister to an awesome birthday dessert but choices were slim and the one we wanted was unavailable..the creme brulee. We settled for this $15 fruit pudding.. it literally came like a soup instead! It was so sad looking and can't believe this fancy restaurant served it. Ugh don't bother with this restaurant. Plenty of other amazing Chinese restaurants out there!

Yelp
Another welcome addition from New York. The Flushing NY location has been a staple for me for a long time, so I was super excited to see them open up in Bellevue. For a soft opening, everything went very smoothly. Their cumin lamb, short rib, and Peking duck were standouts. The service was quick and very attentive, which was impressive even in soft opening phase. The actual restaurant design is a little interesting, it looks like a movie set and very different than the New York location. Highly recommend Jiang Nan and it is a welcome addition to the ever expanding Chinese food options on the Eastside.

Yelp
Came in near closing time, everyone was really sweet and attentive. Was welcomed by many workers with a kind smile. Food was delicious, tasted clean and fresh. The duck and flank was extremely tender! Although I must say, the crème brûlée was a lot sweeter than expected.

Yelp
Disappointing Experience for a Special Occasion We came here to celebrate a birthday with a party of six and ended up spending over $400 -- unfortunately, the experience didn't come close to justifying the price. Right from the start, things were off. We waited 20-30 minutes after being seated before anything arrived at our table besides water. No drinks, no appetizers -- just silence. Then, oddly, some of the food began arriving before our drinks ever did. When our hot tea finally came, the server poured it immediately, before it had any time to steep, leaving us with six cups of clear, flavorless hot water. The worst part of the night came when a server spilled food and hot oil on one of our guests. Accidents happen, but the response from the staff was deeply disappointing. The manager simply said they would "train the server not to spill again." No apology. No urgency. I suggested they consider comping at least part of the meal as a gesture of goodwill -- they declined. For a restaurant at this price point, the lack of attentiveness, basic service timing, and accountability was shocking. This was meant to be a special evening, and unfortunately, it fell far short.

Yelp
Jiang Nan is the Chinese restaurant we've all been waiting for! For many years, the Greater Seattle Area had only 2 "upscale" Chinese restaurants: Baron's and Peony Kitchen- both of which serve good, but Americanized Chinese food. Enter Jiang Nan - authentically purist Chinese cuisine with an extensive menu. Located at The Bravern, the aesthetic of the interior is on brand. The prices are even similar to some of the rundown restaurants in Seattle Chinatown. Every dish is delicious and beautifully presented. The quality and refined flavours are reminiscent of dining in China. Our group of 12 experienced outstanding customer service. Ming, who is in Bellevue temporarily to train staff in the newly opened location, looked after us. He and his team served with so much heart and sincerity, it felt like family. Jiang Nan will be our go-to dinner destination for the for foreseeable future. They are a wonderful addition to the restaurant scene. I feel less of a need to make frequent trips to Vancouver, BC for Chinese dining!

Yelp
Very highly priced items as you are paying for the experience. The decor was good and the place settings looked unique. Service was average at best. The lead servers were good but they were hard to find. The servers that bring the food out have no patience and want to just drop off the food and go. One guy nearly spilled one of our dish because he just dropped it on the table. The food was good overall. Our favorite was the Japanese tofu. We ordered the duck and instead of bao, they give you a crepe. The duck was a bit dry and was just a bit bland. We enjoyed the rice noodle and the truffle mushroom fried rice. The steamed soup dumplings were horrible. I can get better dumplings at Costco's frozen aisle. Not likely going to be back.

Yelp
This is my second time to visit this restaurant and it is my first time to eat here. I will give 1 or 2 stars. Service is quite bad, food was not well cookedl - expensive and not taste good. During my first visit, I felt good about the enverionment. It was busy and crowded. But when I made a reservation and ordered food (my 2nd visit), my feeling is this restaurant probably will not last very long if they do not improve their service and food quality. I will not come back and I do not recommend this restaurant

Yelp
Waited 30 minutes for a waiter to order food and waited another 30 minutes at the end for the check. Food is way too salty. The Interior design looks cheap. Avoid.

Yelp
Though online reservations are still unavailable, we were able to obtain a Sunday lunch reservation for a small group simply by calling ahead. When we arrived, the main room was nearly filled with guests. As soon as we were seated, small complementary dishes of Sichuan pao cai (preserved vegetables) were laid out which reminded me of my grandmother's recipe she would prepare every summer. We sampled the half order Peking duck, shrimp with honey walnuts, braised pork belly with black tea sauce, tofu with crab meat, and sautéd water spinach. Each dish was served hot and were all plated nicely with smaller portion sizes. We had ordered 2 bowls of white rice which oddly arrived last after we had tried all the dishes. The Peking duck was excellent by Seattle standards and slight downgrade to very good by Vancouver B.C. standards. The pancake wrappers were the most authentic I have seen in Seattle/Bellevue and thick enough to hold several pieces of duck. The onion slivers were a bit dry and I would have preferred fresh green onions. The crabmeat tofu and pork belly in black tea sauce were exceptional with leftover sauce available to mix with the rice. We enjoyed the soft opening and will definitely return to try their seafood dishes and hopefully other items listed on their East coast menus.

Yelp
Really enjoyed my dinner here! Perfect spot for a date night or dinner with friends and families. The food was delicious and packed with flavor and came out hot and fresh. Service was great too.

Yelp
Literally one of the worst experience in Bellevue. So many things went wrong during my visit. 1. The food isn't that great, many dishes taste like panda express food, but less heated. Its obvious that the food is from preserved and frozen packs, which cost 1/10 of the price they sell them for. 2. The waiters and waitreses aren't trained. They served a big hot pot over a toddler's head, without any realization how dangerous it can be. 3. In the end we wanted to get the left over to go, they offered to do it for us, then they forgot to pack one dish... Overall it's a very bad experience and I do not recommend it to anyone. It's not real Chinese food, it's panda express level food. Youd think you are paying for the service but no, the staffs are trained.

Yelp
Went there during their soft openings because I've been to their New York restaurant before,m. The price was unbelievably reasonable consider their taste (decent and I like the Shanghainese fusion) and location (bravern). Service was really nice

Yelp
"Working" as a Hobby. Knowing the restaurant had recently opened, we thought it may busy, but we decided to chance it and arrived around 5:10 PM on a Saturday evening. We walk in to see the lady was already on the phone, too busy to even acknowledge us. After a few minutes of being ignored, I saw the waitlist stand and put our name on the list-- we were third. We were surprised that it wasn't very busy for a Saturday evening for a new restaurant. The two tables in front of us on the waitlist were seated relatively promptly. While we were waiting, a family walked in, just in time for the lady to be off the phone. The actual seater returns, but there was a huge emergency that one of the male staffers couldn't possibly handle-- there was a reservation! He was either lazy or incompetent, where she had to handle the situation. Observations while we were still waiting: we noticed that a group male staffers (five) were far too busy chit chatting with each other to do any actual work. When we thought we were finally going to be sat, the reservation party came out to lobby to take photos... with a professional photographer and lighting, the whole nine yards. Then the family who walked in after us was seated. We were ignored the entire time. We decided to leave, and out of courtesy, I wanted to let the lady up front know to take us off the waitlist... but alas, she was on the phone... again. I walked past a male staffer who made direct eye contact with me, yet refused to acknowledge me, as if my presence was a severe inconvenience to him. Clearly, my low stature as a dining guest pales to his importance as marked by the earbud/headset he had on (the ones you see servers at Din Tai Fung wearing, but there was an actual point for DTF servers to be wearing them). Jiang Nan is not busy enough to warrant those earbuds, but we make ourselves feel important somehow. I can't help but think this restaurant is a bit racist. I am Asian and my husband is Caucasian. Yet the family of Asians who walked in after us was seated before us. They essentially rolled out the red carpet for the reservation party to take photos--also Asian. I surmise they couldn't care less that we walked out. We finally received our notification that joy of joys-- we were next to be seated! I received this notification after we were sat at another restaurant across the street. Things worked out well, as the restaurant we did dine in was delightful. Jiang Nan is considered a "Michelin Star-Recognized" restaurant; it's lucky for Jiang Nan that service is not one of the considerations, as "working" here is just a hobby for the front of the house staff. I've actually worked at a restaurant and if I treated guests the way this staff treated me, the restaurant would have gone bankrupt in months. As another reviewer observed, this restaurant will not last long, Jiang Nan will be lucky to last two years. Do not waste your time here. You can get better versions of these dishes in the International District.

Yelp
Love their food!!! So exciting to have a spot to go to in Bellevue. Servers are very friendly and welcoming

Yelp
Got Father's Day free drink! Very clean and nice place with delicious food reminding me of my hometown.

Yelp
For a place that is/was on the Michelin recommended list-I expected more.the signature duck (Peking duck) was very ordinary. I expected the duck skin to be crispy but it was not. It was like a roast duck that you can buy at any Chinese BBQ place. Very disappointed

Gian Carlo D.

Yelp
If you want to wait for an hour for your first food order to come in, this is the place to be. If I could put negative stars on here, I would. Not recommending this place at all!
google avatar

Craig V.

Yelp
Was not a great experience. The wait staff was not trained at all and the food was very mediocre. I've had much better Fuzhou food in Beijing. The ambience was OK, but I've seen so many restaurants in the same spot fail... ...你觉得要不要试试别的?这附近还有很多其他不错的餐厅

Nneka A.

Yelp
We went in here with very high expectations and this place fell so flat, the food was a huge disappointment for my family and worse off this was Father's Day, what a waste of time and money. The wait staff was non existent, they had iPads for menus and assumed we all wanted to touch their dirty iPads, they didn't once bother to ask if we had questions on the menu and I had to ask if someone can help explain the food options, mind you this was our first time here. They didn't even have wooden chopsticks as options and basically force everyone to use their plastic chopsticks. The food was just below average, expected way more for this place. The chicken skate dish was over populated with over fried chilli and like 6 pieces of fish, the white fish soup was lacking in taste, Again for the price of the entrees averaging about $38 I highly recommend you go somewhere else. We certainly will never be going back to this restaurant. They didn't even offer us parking validation

Fushigi Y.

Yelp
The Peking duck wraps were thin and well-made, and the soup was flavorful, which were the best part of the meal. But judging by the price and location of the restaurant, the service was surprisingly poor. With the exception of couple of staff, it felt like most were either untrained or just didn't care, or both. You'd get better service at a food court.
