"Sacramentans who have moved away will hit up Jimboy’s as soon as they get back to town: It’s the kind of fast food craving that can get indelibly stamped on your soul. In 1954, Jimboy’s was started by a Swede in the Lake Tahoe area, and spread to Sacramento in the ’60s. The majority of its franchises currently operate in the area. The orange grease of the iconic, ersatz parm-dusted ground beef taco is nicely cut by a bottle of Modelo (the best locations serve beer), and the taco burger must be tried to be believed. Pickles in a taco shell? Now I’ve seen everything." - Becky Grunewald

Google
Made myself a “sample plate” with original ground beef, carnitas, fried chicken, and cheeseburger tacos. They all hit really good, except the carnitas which was a bit dry and bland. The others were awesome.

I mostly go to the JBs on 29th street near the N street bus stop on my way home. I am hooked on the chicken taco salad (which has alot of chunky chicken & good spicey guacamole) & a Taho beef burrito & sometimes a carnitas taco w/no lettuce but cilantro is ok (I like that they dust it w/Parmesan cheese) & I get a large drink. I know it's alot of food but I have enough for at least 2 or 3 days & it tastes good warmed up. The complaint I have is how greasy both the burrito & taco shells are sometimes. The wrapper is soaked w/it & I have to eat them w/a napkin wrapped around it. I'm wondering if they occasionally change the grease when it gets old? I hate that smell & even the thought of ingesting it. Otherwise service is ok slow at times. Cashiers are mostly ok.

I had an issue with an order that I needed help with. Juan was genuinely kind, professional, and seemed to truly care about helping me. He went above and beyond to resolve the issue, and helped me feel like my business was important to them. I sincerely hope the owner of this store and district manager can acknowledge him for his exceptional service. His approach to solving the issue makes me a midtown Jimboys customer for life. If I ran a restaurant, or really any business, I would hope to have a person like Juan to trust it with.

Google
I've heard of this place for years and years. Watched their videos of them making their tacos and they always looked so good. I'm very detailed on my reviews but since I'm sad to say I was dissapointed I'm keeping this short. I paid $5 for two tacos when I could've gone to Jack in the Box for two tacos far cheaper with my parmesan shaker. I thought they were going to be crispy, loaded and all nice. The shell was not crispy at all, not much meat, hardly any cheese and a lot of lettuce. They were nothing like I seen on videos. Goes to show that videos are all presentation sometimes. The salsas were awesome though. Service was nice and speedy so count those 3 stars as 5 for the service, two down for the food. I do appreciate how fast I was attended. You guys really do have an awesome team.

Google
This one is a northern California classic! Definitely one of the best places to get jimboy's Tacos in Sacramento/Midtown 💯 Can't go wrong with the Classic Ground Beef Tacos! They're the best to me! This Jimboy's is a Nor-Cal and is a must try!

Google
Great customer service but you get what you pay for to be quite honest It's a good taco when you're in the mood.

Douglas Wilson

Google
"Mexican restaurant" is not the best description of this place, as it advertises "American tacos" inside. Had a carnitas taco, it was edible but unexceptional. $4, good thing I didn't need much to eat, as I gladly pay $1 more for something more resembling a meal and less "American".

Tracy Craghead

Google
It’s JIMBOYS. Heavy on the meat. Always tasty. Large portions. Competitively priced.

Em L.

Yelp
I'm a late convert...While I grew up eating Jimboys takeout during chore filled weekends, I was always more of a taqueria girlie. Lately, all of my gatherings have collectively decided, "Jimboys!" for dinner and I am officially a member of the I Love Jimboys Club. Hot, grilled bean and cheese burritos doused with tangy, spicy packet sauce hits like no other. My fam raves about the pacific cod fish tacos, shredded chicken tacos, chicken quesadilla, and bean tacos.

Yuri K.

Yelp
My husband was raving about Jimboy's, we are here tonight to try his favorite "ground beef" tacos... We order a junior meal, ground beef taco combo that comes with a taco, a drink, choice of a side, and CHURRO!!! I got 2 beef tacos and 1 carnitas taco. I liked the carnitas more than ground beef, bc gb was little dry vs carnitas taco was greasy, meaty, and just better overall. Crispy tortilla was amazing!! Hub finished his enchiladas combo with a ground beef taco. I got to taste the enchiladas and it was good. The place was clean and service was good.

Julie A.

Yelp
Expensive. Long waits. And now I will never go back because of how they treated me. Worst experience ever. I spent $62 and left a $6 tip just so they could forget to put in all of the tacos. (6) ground beef tacos Did drive through and didn't notice till I got back; so I drive back and ask for the tacos and show the receipt and they acted like I was scamming them. More to the story but I already posted review on Google. Read there too. If they had been apologetic... Oh no! We're so sorry that happened. Maybe put themselves in my shoes. Waited 20mins in drive thru, dropped $70, no tacos, and now half my order is all messed up and I was feeding my family visiting from out of town.. DONE with this location. Mistakes happen. But treating me like a scammer on top of it!? Never going back. Go to Jimboys at DOCo. It will take just as long as the drive thru here and at least they smile and treat you like a customer

Davis V.

Yelp
The tacos tasted nasty and fake, the service was super slow. The ambiance no people and a dirty restaurant. I was overcharged and the staff was very unhelpful. I was going to try it as a hole in the wall. This place is worst than Taco Bell and del taco

Richard H.

Yelp
This is my first Mexican type place since coming from Florida. I will start off with the bad things. I requested and asked for in the instructions and paid for extra sauces plus I requested napkins forks spoons etc. They failed to deliver any of those items... how can you serve a plate of enchiladas with refried beans and rice without a fork or a spoon.. Now the tacos were bigger than you would find at Taco Bell...The taste and flavor of the oil it all needed to be changed a couple of days ago. Plus the burrito I asked for was also fried like a chimichanga which I don't understand... Plus the size of the salsa and sauce that I got at all was not 2 ounce it was 1 ounce at least. And I'm steamed that I paid extra and they didn't give me what I requested Now on the positive side the food was prepared and delivered very quickly and was still very hot after struggling to open up the plastic bag. It was pretty much a typical ground beef enchilada mix but it was not outstanding I doubt if I will go back there again for this. .. Overall it was better than anything in Florida. In Florida nowhere nowhere at any Mexican place except Taco Bell could you find refried beans.

Nicole N.

Yelp
So I heard a lot of hype about this spot that's gone through many taco iterations. Those who love Jimboy's seem to REALLY love Jimboys. I think they're - okay. Got six tacos, some chips n queso. Queso was super thick - I don't know what I expected but this was not it. The chips however were surprisingly delicious. The tacos- I had heard how they were SO good and SO amazing and they were just meh. Kinda tasted like the oil needed to be changed out or something. It wasn't great. It wasn't what's been so hyped up for so long. And their salsa, well, I tried one packet and switched to my home cholula. Not high on my list for a repeat.

Richard R.

Yelp
Excellent local with authentic flavors even for any first time buyers - I came 2500 Miles's to enjoy Jimboy's tacos again E

Marc B.

Yelp
Best hard shell beelf tacos from a fast-ish food place I've ever had: crispy fried corn tortillas, but not too crunchy, dusted with parmesan cheese and filled with ground beef, cheese, and shredded iceberg lettuce. Yum! Hot sauce available, but not necessary. Tacos can also be served with grilled chicken, carnitas, steak, bean, and cod. They also sell burritos, taquitos, salads, a burger, chips beans, rice, and fries. Nice staff. Parking in back or on the street out front. Seating out front, but not too much.

Maggie R.

Yelp
I ordered a burrito and a child's burrito from this restaurant through DoorDash. I was very disappointed with the burrito. They only offer one kind of burrito. I don't know why they don't offer the burritos that they grill when you go into the store. I did not order the Tahoe burrito as that comes with red sauce And is like a wet burrito. I was very disappointed with the burrito. The tortilla seemed kind of doughy and soft, but not in a good way. The meat seemed unseasoned and everything else in. It seemed very bland. The children's burrito was just rice and beans. I believe maybe cheese. It was good for its price, but nothing special. I give this a one star review.

Victoria A.

Yelp
Maybe they should take the time to read the order Back to you to make sure it is correct? Now I'm seating Here still hungry because my order was incorrect

Joe D.

Yelp
The customer service was kind of strange, not welcoming at all, but the taco was good

Diddly M.

Yelp
Waited 20 minutes for 2 tacos and the restaurant wasn't even busy inside. It seems to be another case of Door Dash and pickup orders getting priority over walk-in customers. Happens at a lot of places these days sadly. My lunch break is 30 minutes so the wait ate up most of my time... As for the food, the tacos were fine I guess. A little greasy even by Jimboy's standards. Definitely not worth a 20 minute wait

Candace G.

Yelp
Okay to preface--we are hardcore Jimboys people. We absolutely love Jimboys food and have eaten there so often over the past 28 years that my mom literally became friends with the former owner. Since the change in ownership, this has become the absolute worst Jimboys in town. I am currently approaching an hour that I have now waited for my Doordash order--which was literally just a bean and cheese burrito and a cheese enchilada plate. The wait time was so long they had to assign me a new dasher and notify me that my order is significantly behind. This is now the second time I've Doordashed from this Jimboys and this has happened. And it's every bit as bad at the restaurant itself, no matter whether you go inside or through the drive-thru. I waited over 30 minutes in their drive-thru last week. I have been coming to this drive/thru for eons because it was closest to my house, but I will absolutely not be patronizing this place any further and will opt for the K Street location in the future instead, despite that location being much more difficult to access inside DOCO. I have given this place chance after chance to get it together after the change in ownership and was happy to give them a grace period during the transition but this is now at a point of being ridiculous. Beyond the horrifyingly long wait times, I've also noticed that they've made a lot more errors on the orders themselves since the change in ownership as well. They've screwed up 2 orders that I can remember recently. The food is good, no question, but if customers have to wait what is now OVER AN HOUR for a burrito and an enchilada plate and not even have a reasonable certainty that the order will be correct, then its definitely time for ownership to seriously reevaluate. Would not be surprised if they are out of business within a few years with how notoriously bad it's gotten. Potentially has my vote for worst restaurant in downtown Sacramento.

Julia F.

Yelp
I miss the old owners. Quality was SO much better. No matter what you order, it takes at least 20 minutes to receive your food.

Harrison L.

Yelp
Jimboy's taco has always been the best because they're pan fried. Today I thought I'd try something new called the Tahoe burrito. What a mistake that was. Look good on the menu but was disappointing - lacked flavor and ingredients ("new and improved" burrito) . Next time I will stick with the tacos.

Jayda F.

Yelp
Dismal place, terrible food, poor service. Tortillas were half cooked and overly covered by masa and flour.

Joshua S.

Yelp
Never go here unless you have a lot of time to waste waiting!! They take soooo long with your food it's unreal....

Leah S.

Yelp
I'm sick and tired of ordering mild salsa and being given either NOTHING AT ALL, TACO sauce only, or some SUPER hot salsa instead. I have been to Jim boys many times. I am very familiar with Jimboys mild salsa. And I am extremely disappointed that for the 5th time I have tried to order mild salsa from this same exact jimboys location; they have yet again let me down and delivered my food without anything except one side of VERY hot salsa. It really shouldn't be this hard to get a specifically labeled type of salsa. It's on door dash's app. I can personally select (for a cost I happily paid) and could fill my own container of it if I go in, park and walk into the restaurant. But this review is based off of literally 3 DoorDash experiences AND 2 personal pick up experiences, and I'm sorry if I sound like a bitch but it really shouldn't be this hard to get a goddamn side of mild salsa. Idk why you would list it as an option if none of your employees are willing to accommodate it as an option?! -one very upset and disappointed customer who feels like a bitch complaining about salsa but also feels like. - it's JUST SALSA how hard can it be to give me the ONE I ordered??

Tiara B.

Yelp
I recently tried Jimboy's Tacos and it was just okay. I ordered two grilled chicken tacos and a soda. I was looking for a quick food spot to grab a snack after work. I would probably given it three stars if the drive thru service wasn't slow midday.

Sol B.

Yelp
Came back tonight; only one vehicle was before me and already waiting for their food before I placed my order. My wait was not very long. Again, just like my last visit, the young lady who took my order was especially friendly and well-mannered. My only complaint is that the tacos seems especially small; a tad bit (just a tiny bit) bigger than a "street taco." I don't remember the tacos being this small. They appear to be using much smaller tortillas (which equate to smaller portions) than I have ever seen. See my photos. I'd rather be charged more for the same size versus being charged the same amount for smaller food portions. I will have to visit another Jimboys to confirm if all franchise locations have downsized food portions.

MICHAEL G.

Yelp
Looks like the new owner thinks charging customers 3% on all credit/debit transactions is moral and legal. It actually ISN'T and is also agains their merchant agreement with Visa, Mastercard etc... Asked for the owners phone number. Never got it. Perhaps they should review this section: 2020 California Code Civil Code - CIV DIVISION 3 - OBLIGATIONS PART 4 - OBLIGATIONS ARISING FROM PARTICULAR TRANSACTIONS TITLE 1.3 - CREDIT CARDS Section 1748.1. Universal Citation: CA Civ Code § 1748.1 (2020) 1748.1. (a) No retailer in any sales, service, or lease transaction with a consumer may impose a surcharge on a cardholder who elects to use a credit card in lieu of payment by cash, check, or similar means. A retailer may, however, offer discounts for the purpose of inducing payment by cash, check, or other means not involving the use of a credit card, provided that the discount is offered to all prospective buyers. They don't seem to care about doing illegal things. The post a notice stating they will charge you 3%. They don't realize it's still ILLEGAL! I'll call visa etc.. let them know what they're up to.

Cynthia G.

Yelp
Terrible tacos! Dripping in grease and no parmesan on the outside of the tortillas. This is not the Jimboy's Tacos that was here long ago. I recommend eating at another Jimboy's.

Jasmin S.

Yelp
Good for American tacos, but pricey. Hot sauce isn't hot. Kinda felt like eating expensive Taco Bell tacos.

May K.

Yelp
Been there before but this time super light on the meat on a few ground beef taco and a enchelada paid 14 dollars was still hungry and they dontanswer thier phone and voice mail always full

Keilah H.

Yelp
Omg what happened to this place?? I remember coming here constantly growing up and it being so delicious! This used to be my favorite location. But since they closed down and reopened, they've "rebranded". Why mess up a great thing? I used to love ordering the chicken quesadillas or combo burrito because the chicken was so delicious. Juicy, tender SHREDDED chicken was my favorite thing about Jimboy menu. It was something unique to them, like a signature taste. It was something about the broth and seasonings the chicken was in that made it so good. Now they just have dried diced chicken and the food lacks flavor. I was so disappointed as I had just moved back to Sacramento after living in Arizona and I kept raving about this place to my boyfriend since he had never tried it. We were both extremely dissatisfied in the quality of food now. The mexican place that took it's place for a while was even better than this. I won't be back unless they bring back the original recipe.

Sonia O.

Yelp
Very greasy burritos, with little filling. Would not recommend this location's restaurant, maybe others are better?

Tim A.

Yelp
The meat is so flavorful, and the cheese is sent from heaven above. I had to try to find the most wonderful American cheese ever invented, only to find that it was a special order that was not offered to the public. They also invented the Parmesan coating "Genious." Forget the history of being the oldest Taco joint in Northern California and a small family business. Even Charro and the rat pack believe these are the best tacos ever. The manager told me they started the first taco truck stand in Kings Beach, Tahoe. This franchise owner was a problem. Don't judge the all of them this way.

Kenny T.

Yelp
Visiting from NYC and damn this place is bussin'. Bring it to the northeast please. I'm begging. The steak tacos were so good and coated with cheese?! My god. I left my girlfriend and moved in with these tacos. 1. Jimyboy 2. Tacobell 3. Chipotle 4. Qdoba and similar entities

Victoria A.

Yelp
I stopped in for lunch today and I received my order But did not get what I asked for I got a beef taco instead of bean taco I don't eat beef I ordered fries with out salt and the fries were loaded with salt and the fries were not fresh The only thing that was right was the chicken taco I ordered and they forgot the ketchup as well I usually don't complain but I was really looking forward to having my lunch but was soo disappointed

Priscilla C.

Yelp
Long long wait for a ground beef burrito & drink with a very long line of cars behind me.. I do not understand... Do they not have meat hot & ready? Do they not chop up the condiments? Is there only one person working at a time? And now the payment debit card machine asks for a tip. Are you serious? For a tip, you need to start serving margaritas in a full restaurant set up. Operations here are consistently slow. You either are not fully staffed, or don't have good techniques for getting the food done in a timely manner. Hire a prepper! Sad. I won't return & I have always loved Jimboys food.

Mark B.

Yelp
Grew up in Sacramento and Jim Boy's was always a treat. Now living in South Florida but always try to stop by when visiting California for a taste of nostalgia.

Marcilla H.

Yelp
Slow service , they do more talking than working it should not take more than 20 min to prep a 6 pack of tacos this is ridiculous. It also depends on the crew working here cause some days are better than most . Like fix the customers food and get them out the door that's the reason for fast food .Service sucks here . If you don't mind waiting 20 to 30 mins than visit this store .

J E.

Yelp
You'd think they'd give you some napkins when you order their 6-pak tacos to go, they're so greasy they made me sick to my stomach. I mean they taste good for only seasoned beef, lettuce and a sprinkling of parmesan cheese but there's way to much grease in those things, they need to drain the meat first

Ken M.

Yelp
This is in response to the Jimboy"s response yesterday to my review the other day where they clearly overcharged (tripled) the claimed credit card usage fee shown (3%) on signs in various locations on the property. A copy of the receipt was included with that review and still visible. I do not know of any other way to respond as you left no contact info. Jimboy's just does not get it obviously. Your total response was basically "we owe you $.28". (And that you could not even calculate right, which I guess is not surprising.) The primary issue here is not some small potatoes refund. As I noted, this is the second time in May (other date was May 7th) where you have overcharged the credit card fee at this location. And I have that May 7th receipt too if you would like. It sure would seem you have a much bigger issue potentially of perhaps of a lot of folks suffering this overcharged, not just me on the one occasion. If it happened to me twice, Jimboy"s needs to do some sort of investigation and any correction action I would think. It does not pass any sort of smell test that it only happened to one person and on just two occasions. Not a chance. How many others??

Jeremy F.

Yelp
This is literally one of the worst Jomboys in Sacramento. They treat you like they don't care. They blast music so loud it's hard to hear. They are carrying on in the back talking and laughing which is great in most cases but not this one. They ignore you and treat everyone like crap because of the location. It's hot with flies buzzing in the eating area. Also when you order doordash they make the dasher fill your drink because they are lazy. It's gross to know that a dasher who touches every is making your drink. Oh and they put the lid inside the cup for your dasher to get out. Eeeewwwwwww!!!!!!

Mike R.

Yelp
I grew up in Sacramento, and I have been going to Jimboy's for 50+ years. Great food. Go, you will like it.

Nicki K.

Yelp
Great food at a good price. This is definitely NOT Taco Bell or Del Taco the food is well-seasoned and no artificial ingredients.

Lilian N.

Yelp
PLEASE OPEN A JIMBOYS IN DALLAS, TEXAS. PLEASE!!!! I took a trip to Sacramento last month with my boyfriend to visit his family and he has spoken about Jimboys tacos for MONTHS. I finally got to try it and well well well.... you delicious, crispy, oily, fattening taco, I'm all for you. LOL. and the sprinkle of parmesan cheese on the taco shells.... priceless. no wait times, good customer service.

Amy M.

Yelp
Food was good. Prices outrageous! $3.95 for a bean and cheese burrito??? Chicken taco was $3.55. Crazy! Service was good. Polite and attentive. Clean place and convenient location right next to Regional Transit bus office and near Sutter Hospital.

Lisa G.

Yelp
Ordered 2 cheese enchilada dinners. Was very specific that they were to be cheese, because they have given us beef in the past. They did it again!!! I am so irritated. Can't eat them.

R V.

Yelp
Two stars are for the cashier and person taking order she was very nice. The loss of stars is due to a few factors and I really hope the new owners managers an fix this! I've been to this location quite a few times since it reopened and in have to say the drive through takes forever! I waited over 30-40 minutes for a nachos. Also this is nit the first time. The drive through really takes forever which wouldn't be as bad if the food made up for it? But when i got back to work to eat them I was very disappointed they were not like they normally are there was barley any cheese only at the bottom of the container and the beans were cold which made it very hard to eat and the chips just kept breaking and crumbling. Hoping this feedback is heard and you can fix it as I love Jim it's and want this location to succeed!

Mark M.

Yelp
If you want the best Mexican food, Jimboy's Tacos is your destination! I've been to 4 locations in Sacramento and all are outstanding! My favorite locations are Downtown mall and the one on 29th street! Always great food and friendly service from the staff! Thanks, keep up the great work

Amy N.

Yelp
Jimboys used to be one of my favorite places to eat but the quality and portion size has gone very downhill. The line for the drive thru is always slow. Not to mention the 3% transaction fee for using a card... but being asked to TIP in a drive thru?? This is extremely tacky, I will not be back.

Anjie D.

Yelp
This Jimboy's is NOT what I've experienced through many years of going to a Jimboy's!!! Just the simple beef tacos had NO taste or smell...and cannot believe the tacos had no Parmesan on the outside!‼...this is something always done! I highly recommend not going to this location and instead go to any other location...if this Jimboy's is supposed to be affiliated with others, please be consistent and cook/prepare like the others...such a waste of money and time (smh).

Marvin E.

Yelp
Tried this place for lunch today after hearing so much about. Wanted to see if the hype was real I can't front it was official I will return

kelly s.

Yelp
I'm grateful for the folks that do show up to work hard, but why I continue to torture myself waiting for food makes me some kind of masochist.

Darren B.

Yelp
This used to be the best Jimboy's by far but now there as bad or worse then the one located at Northgate and the one at Arden. It has gone from pretty good quality to just about making a profit. They are opening another Jimboy's in West Sacramento and I really hope that the people running these other locations will not be associated with the West Sacramento location. Very sad that this company has gone down hill and doesn't seem to care anymore.

Buddy G.

Yelp
Ordered 4 beef tacos and 2 chicken tacos. Very simple order. Waited 20 minutes in the drive thru. They forgot the chicken tacos. So I got ripped off for $6.50 and the girlfriend didn't get her food, which is the only reason we went there. I stopped going to Jimboy's years ago because of the rising prices, and I think this will probably be my last time. Overpriced, and you may not even get your food.

Anthony A.

Yelp
Closed still at 11:15am ? Need to hire people that make it to work on time . This is the 3rd time this month.

The Critic 1.

Yelp
What happened to you Jim Boys? This used to be the best one in town. This location was formally closed due to a new location in DOCO. Then it reopened and this is the first time trying it. The service was very long and the employee never smiled, looked like she hated her job. They shorted me on my order, I left a message no response! Won't be back .
