16 LA Restaurants That Are Perfect For Your Picnic - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"A family-run farm in Santa Ynez, Jimenez is a staple of local LA farmer’s markets. And along with fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, and some great quiches, they also make tremendous pies. Most of the fruit comes from their own farm, so you can count on it being fresh. It’s all good, but the boysenberry with crumble crust - if it’s available - is really on another level. You can find Jimenez at the Santa Monica, Hollywood, and Atwater Farmers Markets (or check their website for their full schedule)." - brett keating

Google
I will admit customer service is quite okay there. But it carries on this very distinguished odor that makes me nauseous they need to figure a way to clean it up make it smell better. And it's kind of pricey but it's been there for a while so it works for them but still I don't recommend it you're better off going to a bigger store. I know this is a mom and pop shop look for what you're spending their you're better off saving it and spending more in bigger stores.

I lived here my whole life 30years lol and its been the best

The cozy and comfortable setting really places one in the shopping experience wheather u are there to dine or grocery shopping.

Google
Beware!!!!🤮 The place is dirty and filthy!!! The deli section was filthy and The cooked food had insects and fruit flies landing and buzzing around on the cooked food. The self-serve bread area only had hard bread and stale. Lots of product on the shelf had dust. The manager was told and seem not to care at all and gave me attitude for making him aware. Stay away!

The people here are always happy to help you

Didn't let me go into the store with my emotional support animal. I literally was holding him and even have his emotional support badge on his collar

Victoria K.

Google
Very nice store, affordable fruits, big variety of products and very friendly staff. I don’t speak Spanish, but they manage to find someone who understood what I wanted, so I could order my vegetarian burrito. I also enjoyed the atmosphere there

Google
The best place to buy Bollio and hand made tortillas for your burritos. Delicious

Yelp
Local grocery store, has the necessary household items, fresh and delicious bakeries, meats and prepared foods. They also sell ice, cold beer, vegetables, ice cream and fruits. Enter from the back location, you can even get money orders here which is real convenient. So far the cafe con cinnamon is really good, breakfast is decent too.

Yelp
They have great products in store but a worker stole my card information and charge over $500.00 with the card I used BEWARE santana people sketchy

Yelp
Every time I come to get a breakfast burrito the lady gives me a different price. Higher than what they have posted. So I asked the lady why is it that the prices is different on the sign but you're telling me a higher price? She looked at me straight in the eyes said if you can afford it then don't buy it.! I was shocked! Horrible service specially that bitter old lady in the food bar.
google avatar

Yelp
The service there is horrible if you aren't Hispanic. Yes, I know the area is largely Hispanic but they should give the same service to everyone. I only give 2 stars because the food is good.

Yelp
So, occasionally I'll get carne asada street tacos and they're ok. For example, "I can't remember... aren't they bland?" and I try them again and sure enough, they're bland. But, I forgot again. And I was hungry for meat and needed something within a certain distance that takes digital currency, so I decided to get the three-taco combination plate, salsa on the side (because I do remember that their salsa is super spicy). Oh man was I disappointed. Firstly, I went to be rang-up and heard, "$15.38" -- Excuse me? Three tacos? To which the cashier replied, "With rice and beans? Right?" "Um, yes, but like on the same plate. Not a pint of each." "Yeah, that's $15.38" :| "Ok..." ((Note to self, not ever spending this much for this order again)) I get an average 16.9oz bottle of water, three tacos with just onions and cilantro, bland rice and watery beans. No salsa, no lemons/limes, no salt packets, no flavor. I literally put a packet and a half of Taco Bell salsa on each taco because it's what I had available AND put the rice and beans on the tacos to try and make some flavor. :( My bad for not opening the packaging until I got back to work? I dunno... Super disappointing when I could have spent less for a meal that I loved from somewhere else... but lesson learned. And the bright side is that I get to share this with everyone so they don't have to learn the hard way too and I was actually full/not hungry from around 11-4pm. So, that's decent. :\ Ridiculous. Three tacos on the menu is either $1.99 or like $2.30 depending on which sign you look at. :|

Yelp
Warm Flour Tortillas and Carne Verde plate is a must here. The pan dulce is great too

Viviana A.

Yelp
Worst experience ever I went to return green looking porkchops that I had bought a day before and Ruben was so rude and disrespectful and kicked me out of the store and said that is was the packaging..

Yelp
This is going to sound hilarious about 2 years ago my wife walked to Jimenez ranch market to get a pineapple, we had a newly born son and stroller of course as he was sleeping. They would not let her in with the stroller!!!!! Why the actual F@$" eventually after some push back they let her in and literally the security guard followed her to see her get a pineapple and almost escorted her out!!!! After that incident we will never again touch that place again. Go elsewhere.

Yelp
This is an okay stop if you need to pick up some milk, but I went for coffee creamer or half and half, and they had neither. I bought whole milk instead, plus some Twinkies that were on sale for $2.99. Not a nice selection but they have the basics. My coworker told me he gets lunch there for a good price but I've never eaten there. I prefer Northgate, honestly, but they're much busier.

Yelp
If I can give this place zero stars I would. The cashier lady kept my change and wouldn't give it to me and then called security saying I was stealing. I had a small bag only big enough for my card and cash. She took pictures of my car and yelled at me to get out. Scared with my little kid and being pregnant I thought she was having a melt down I didn't want her to hit me or my kid. I will be filing a police report.

Yelp
This store is clean, well-organized and their produce is great. Their deli is awesome too, with ready-to-go Mexican staples like tacos, carnitas (delicious) and the like. Their bakery items, particularly the flan, are superb. You can eat at the location or take stuff to-go.

Yelp
And let me tell you why I gave 5 stars in spite of the fact that not everything is great about this store. Their wet burritos are the best wet burritos I have ever had. If the only thing you stop by for is a wet burrito, you won't be disappointed. But make sure it's the wet burrito with asada and red sauce.
google avatar

Boquita G.

Yelp
Jimenez market has poor quality of items, the fruit is always in the point of going bad, veggies are so old and the the hot foods suck, the rice is never cook well, beans taste like the canned ones, the asada meat is to dry and salty and the salsa is not even spicy, it's like putting ketchup in your food. Whom ever says the food is good night be white or from other nationality to say that's good Mexican food. And the water to refill your water gallons is not clean, once a lady complaint that after getting water from there it turn green. Also the cashiers and some other lady that's in charge have rude ass customer service. Most likely those who give them good rates are good friends or family members.

Yelp
I love Jimenez market, it's a nice neighborhood store but needs to be cleaned up, especially windows on Main Street side. The store caters only to Latino clientele but it is easy to find product in the store. I feel bad for the owners because the city allows street vending trucks to set up in the neighborhood and takes away business what could otherwise be a lovely store.

Yelp
Jimenez is a fully stocked Mexican grocery store in the heart of downtown Santa Ana. The best part, however, is the fact that it has a small take-out eatery in the back where they serve some delicious and lardy Mexican food including breakfasts with fresh squeezed orange juice and somehow involve chorizo. They also serve fresh fruit like papaya and melon with the chili and lime just like Mexico! And of course, just like Mexico everyone here speaks Spanish. It can be a little hard pointing and gesturing sometimes but it's worth it. They have great tortas, carne asada tacos, burritos, and daily specials. You'll catch the lunch crowd if you go during prime time and see a bunch of business people in the joint which is awesome! The best part is that it's inexpensive and fills that love of greasy taco stand food that I so adore. I also recommend their fries, yes French fries. I think the secret is that they fry it in the same oil that they fry their chicharrones (pork rinds) in, giving it some extra flavor and lard factor.

Yelp
This place is a small Mexican market, bakery and deli all in one. I come here for lunch because it's quick and close. It really helps if you speak Spanish. I usually order their combo which comes with 3 tacos (like the carne asada best), rice, beans and a drink for $5. I also ask for their grilled jalapenos which are pretty good. The main server is a bit stingy on the salsa and condiments but oh well, it's inexpensive for a full meal. I'm a regular here. Each time I come, I ask for extra lemon and salsa but they always seem to ignore the request.

Yelp
I think their kitchen is a godsend for vegetarians looking for heavy Mexican roots. You'll find your common but varied menu of burritos, tacos, tortas, quesadillas, and enchiladas that can be stuffed with bean, cheese, rice, Chile rellenos, potato ... It's great haha. I'm very happy with their customer service and little seating area, too.

Yelp
I wasn't that hungry, but I came in for a bite anyway. I decided on the tacos de carne asada and they were delicious. :) I chased my tacos with a piece of sweet bread (okay... I had two!!!) and I was very pleasantly surprised. I had the custard empanada and the cinnamon roll (I know, not very Latin but yummy nonetheless). I will definitely be back. :)

Yelp
Viva Jimenez Ranch Market. I come from Monterrey where we pride on good Mexican food. My friend suggested it on the 4th of July for lunch. Yes, Mexican on 4th of July. As I walked up to the store and realized that it was actually a grocery store I knew I would not be disappointed. I ordered the Beef in Green Salsa and my friend got the Liver (I don't like liver) but he says it was great and he had never had it Mexican style. I was impressed with the 6 tortillas and the slices of cheese over the beans. The beans and rice were tasty and full of flavor, I dare compare them to my Mother's!!! All that food plus a piece of sweat bread was the best 4th of July lunch ever. I will come back, I'm gonna visit my friend even when he isn't home! Take it from this Mexican, prueba la rica comida en Jimenez Ranch Market!!! (try the tasty food)

Yelp
This is great grocery store/ restaurant. Prefect for lunch if you are in downtown Santa Ana. However, it is a definite plus if you can speak Spanish as most of the employees don't speak English that well. They have everything that you would imagine: tacos, burritos, tortas, and yummy specials. Just be prepared to wait in line if you get there between 12-1. The service is fast but you might have trouble finding a place to sit. The parking is in back.

Yelp
Who ever is posting the stupid random nonsense about how this is an ideal place for Mexican food must of bump their heads. Look the only thing this PORQUERIA of a store is good for is the BEER they sell. I will not set foot at this PORQUERIA of a market, again. I have gone here for a quick pick up for drinks and some chips, that's it. One day I went in and was craving a simple chicken soup. I was just tired and didn't want to cook. Lady says, No no tenemos pero tengo carne de Puerco con chile. I looked at her as in saying, I didn't f...request no carne de puerko en chile. I noded my head and said NO, I wanted chicken soup I tell her and she says, POS A QUI TENGO TAMBIEN TRIPAS PARA TACOS. I was like $%^&*(vieja mensa. Customer Service is wack, only two checkout lines and when I see a girl just standing at the checking stand she says to me, O A YA LE PUEDED COBRAR. I'm like you're doing nothing just holding up the f......wall. Yesterday, my GOD I went in after months of not picking up a drink. Regret it so bad, I get there yesterday and I ask, Tienen mojarra, this lady says no pero si tengo carne llena de grasa si gustas....I kid you not, nothing nothing look appetizing. I thought what seem to be chile rellenos so I say are those chile rellenos, and she says, SI SEñOR. sO I TELL HER ONLY PUT RICE AND NO BEANS ON MY COMBO PLATE AND KEEP THE SODA FOR YOURSELF BECAUSE I DON'T DRINK THAT'S STUFF. I get home and the rice was so under cooked I was so upset I got diarrhea for fuming and eating that crap. This is one of the dirtiest nastiest markets, their meat department, disgusting. Their fruits, I put it on anything, there all rotten. Apples are all soft and mushy. If you want quality Meat to cook not to eat right there and then. but to cook, head over to LA bamba on Main right before Norms. For Meats poultry fish that is the place to go. Adriana J. and Anthony N. BOTH OF YOU DON'T KNOW S....ABOUT WHATS GOOD MEXICAN FOOD. THIS PLACE IS HORRENDOUS.

Yelp
Wanted to try something different an saw this little restaurant on the corner came to try it but I wasn't impressed. Food was ok.

Yelp
Nice local grocery store. Decent selection and they have always been polite when we've shopped there. Their water is some of this best we've found. I personally test it about once a month, and the particulate concentration is around 2 to 16 ppm every time. Much better than any RO water that we've found. And the wet burritos are really good!

Yelp
The restaurant/deli at Jimenez Ranch Market is not what it use to be. Before their Burritos were a Monstrosity of Meat, rice & beans and all that wrapped in a huge flour tortilla for $2.50. Now their burros are half the size but cost twice as much. =-( Best time to go is between 11am-1pm. Now I only go there for the Mexican pastries which are some of the best in the area. Their Flan (custard) & Pastel De 3 Leches (cake) is Da-Bomb-y0 =-D

Yelp
This is a local Mexican supermarket with a kitchen. Daily meal menu items are varied and are usually traditional Mexican homestyle food. Reasonably priced and delicious.

Eimi M.

Yelp
Eh...it's 2 1/2 stars. They were friendly...but the food was just ok. I ordered the Huevos Mexicana and Roo ordered the lengua tacos and menudo. I thought my dish was not bad....the refried beans were very good. Roo really liked the menudo...I tried it...for the 5th time...and I still haven't acquired a taste for it. But the lengua tacos were kind of bland.

Yelp
Love having lunch here. The sweet ladies behind the food counter are nice and always take my order with a smile. Being vegetarian, you'd think your options are limited here but they actually have quite a few veggie items on the menu. Been here with meat eating friends and they claim the meats are good. Definitely worth checking out. The girl behind the register is cute too.

Yelp
This store has a little of everything. Grocery items, produce, made to order cakes and lunch specials! I have enjoyed the Chicken combo here several times. I have never been dissatisfied. Nice size portions too. I usually have enough left over for dinner! The ladies who work the counter are extremely nice and try not to make me feel like an idiot when I order. It's just across the street from work so it's a win win for me!
google avatar

Yelp
I enjoyed coming in in the mornings. They have fresh bolillo bread I'm the mornings right around 8am. They have these delicious bolillos stuffed with cream cheese and jalapeños. They have a small but good selections of produce and the butchers are very friendly and helpful. There's a little restaurant with fast Mexican food ready to serve. The prices are great and the food isn't bad. I would recommend this place if you have a short lunch break and have a craving for Mexican food.
google avatar

Sal C.

Yelp
There the most ignorant non capable morrons. I asked for the manager and was declined. I merely said that they give a big plastic bag for a small banana. I said its waste of plastic bags that they should ask a costumer if they want a bag. They should get educated and have some sort of recycling program given they waste so much plastic. They looked at me in memorized and all I ask for some respect. No wonder there parking is a big dump. If you would like to follow up on this give me a call at 714-381-1369

Yelp
Bomb but gritty burritos can be found here. Fight your way in the front, err back door, snake your way to the right rear of the market, there you will find the hot offerings. This is rugged and raw, but alas the taste is real!
google avatar

BriBri C.

Yelp
Great place for lunch, you can get your delicious homey food and also tour munchies haha. Their arroz con leche is bomb.com and their tacos are really good too.
google avatar

Christine M.

Yelp
I totally love their burritos and Mexican food. But unfortunately the staff behind the food counter are slightly rude, and do not speak English. And they are a little slow about taking your order, (even when you stand and wait at the counter). They don't serve breakfast after 9 or 10 a.m. There's a huge market inside there too, with even a meat market. But I think the prices of their groceries are too high. They also have cakes, I think they take orders for that. And there is some sort of money/check cashing area in front. Their portions of food are large, and that's why I sometimes go there for a quick burrito and coffee. I recommend this place.
google avatar

Maricel J.

Yelp
good mexican food, at some days their meat may be a bit too salty, but most of the random days I come, its been good.
google avatar

Marie V.

Yelp
This place is very convenient for quick lunch dashes from my work. I have always had friendly service BUT the food wavers. There have been times when the arroz mexicano was DELISH.. and times that it tasted like it was from last week. The carnitas and tripas are my favorite but there have been times when the foods seems real good, and others the food tastes like it has been prepared by a different cook and therefor, eeww. I will agree with some of the other raters, the burritos, especially are VERY drippy greasy. The burritos are made smaller than previous and do have alot of beans, of course you can request easy on the beans, but your burrito will be on the small side. Like I said, I used to go often to Jimenez alot for lunch, but it has in my opinion gotten sloppy. I guess it is ok for the person that really hasnt tasted GOOD mexican food! Can anyone tell me where to go for some GOOD Enchiladas de Queso? MMMMM
