A group of friends and I were craving seafood and decided to give Jimmy's Famous Seafood a try, having never been before. We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the building--it's much bigger than expected. The decor had an upscale yet approachable vibe, which was nice. We joked that we were expecting 'Uncle Jimmy,' but quickly realized we were visiting 'James,' given the ambiance.
We ordered a bit of everything, starting with the Hot Seafood Tower, which included crab eggrolls, oysters Rockefeller, clams, mussels, grilled mini lobster tails, fried calamari, shrimp skillet, octopus, and crab dip. We also tried the Finger Food Sampler with ribs, mozzarella sticks, chicken tenders, and crabby fries. A friend ordered the Blue Crabs, mainly to go. They were the hottest items on the table as observed from the steam rising from the dish.
While the variety was fun, the food was hit or miss. The lobster tails and shrimp were overcooked, the calamari was bland, and the ribs were lukewarm and just okay. The mozzarella sticks came out cold, and we didn't love the mussels in the tomato-based sauce. The octopus had mixed consistency reviews--some of us got tender pieces and others, not so much. The crab dip's bread was a hit but the dip itself might've been overshadowed by everything else.
On the plus side, the chicken tenders, crab eggrolls, crabby fries, oysters, and clams were favorites. Three out of four of us also really enjoyed our drinks, the service was solid, and they even brought out a dessert for our friend who was celebrating their birthday, which was a nice touch.
Jimmy's also has an upstairs bar, which looks like a fantastic spot to hang out during football season. Overall, I wish I could give it 3.5 stars, as that feels more accurate. While there were some missteps with the food, the atmosphere, service, and a few dishes made it worth the visit. There's definitely enough here to consider coming back.
