Gyro Jimmy's Greek Grill - Review - New York - The Infatuation

"Crispy gyro meat and fries, stuffed in a pita with fresh vegetables, are an excellent complement to watching the Mets ground into double plays for five months. Crush a gyro or two, and bring back an order of their loukoumades, which are Greek donuts with honey and cinnamon sugar, for dessert. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Google
I love the food here! Best Greek food I have had in the US. I’ve been to Greece and this is the closest I have gotten. Try their frappe! Everything is amazing! Definitely take the time to go in and eat with your family you won’t be disappointed. The owner is also so nice.

Google
BEST GREEK FOOD IN NJ!!! You would think that the best thing here would be the gyro and that is awesome also. However, the most delicious thing on their menu is their Greek Stuffed Burger which my husband and father love. I personally also love their falafel, grape leaves and lemon potatoes. Definitely try this place and you will be hooked!!!

Elena Lucas

Google
Amazing quality & The owner is really nice! I always get the chicken gyro & grape leaves. The tzatziki sauce is sooo good as well. I always order an extra side too!

Google
Stopped by for lunch, for the price, the food was very good. A beef/lamb gyro with greek salad was $12. That’s about the average. The food was good, easy parking, in and out, worth coming back.

Google
Inside it's nothing fancy, but who cares the food is absolutely DELICIOUS. I love this place, one of my favorite for Greek. The falafel platter is my go to, but everything I've ordered / ate is yum, yum, yummy! I hope they stay around a long time.

Google
Stumbled upon this place on door dash and it’s only 5 min from me. Food was delicious portions were great. Will def be ordering from them again in the future. I ordered an extra salad and I didn’t even need it because the side salad in the platter is huge!

Google
Pretty good food at good prices. Friendly staff. Several gluten free options, including a dedicated fryer.

Yelp
This is some of the best Greek food I have had! The chicken souvlaki was so tender and flavorful! Loved the lemon rice and tzatziki! Service was quick! Utilitarian interior, but we could carry on a conversation at normal volume. We split the platter and had food leftovers over!

Yelp
Food. Good/very good. Portion size just right Price. Just right. Byob. Service. Very good. Ambiance. Ok. Small. 10-12 tables. Not fine dining. But a nice place to grab an hour dinner. On a 1-10. Solid 7.5.

Yelp
If you want good, authentic Greek without needing to go to a "high end" restaurant with "high end" pricing you found it! Jimmy's has always been consistently excellent with the food they have served me and my family. The service is fast and attentive and they do a good job making you feel welcome. The restaurant is nestled in a strip mall and when inside it is nicely decorated and comfortable. The Gyro platters and Mixed Grill platter are extremely good and the portion sizes are nice as well. The Lemon Potatoes are cooked perfectly and are addicting. My favorite side dish and if they come with the meals even better. The spinach rice is also highly recommended if you choose that as your side or have it with your meal. Always go back to this place as I haven't found a Greek restaurant close to them in the area.

Yelp
I got the tilapia dish with rice and, WOW. Delicious!! There was so much food that I wasn't sure if I could finish it but........amazing!

Yelp
I'm shocked this place is 4.3 stars on Yelp. Perhaps we didn't order the right items but we were very disappointed in everything we ordered. I can't remember the last time I was so disappointed in a meal. The prices are steep for the small portions. But then again they know they're one of the few Greek restaurants in 15-20 min. Everything was overly salty. The table, chairs, setting were certainly not clean at all... Mixed grill - overcooked, salty, overpriced Mixed seafood - overpriced, small portions. The calamari was a joke - small, overdone. And only three shrimp (which were seasoned nicely but again overly salty) Moussaka - salty but overall decent Lemon potatoes - too salty to the point they were bitter Service was fine. Beyond disappointing.

Yelp
Lamb and Beef Gyro Platter The BEST around is all I will say. Try it for yourself. The Lemon Potatoes amazing. The Beef Lamb Gyro you can't stop eating it. I eat it slow and savor every bite. Oh I guess I said more than i said i would. No problem. Go to Jimmy's find out for yourself!

Yelp
Great for take out or sit down. Quick service, reasonable prices. Not sure what the point of the lunch gyro combo platter special is on Sunday/Monday- it's $0.45 cheaper than every other day- maybe that's a typo, or maybe they really just want you to save 45 cents. lol Lamb and beef gyro was phenomenal. Falafel gyro was quite tasty as well. All extras, including tahini or tzatziki sauce, costs $1+ extra, but they put enough on that it wasn't a concern.
google avatar

Yelp
Wonderful friendly service perfect authentic greek food. Took one of my exs is there I had a very fun time. The gyros are wonderful. Perfect Atmosphere. If you're looking for Greek food, come to Jimmy's.
google avatar

Tee G.

Yelp
Great spot for food, awesome yummy salads (my usual grilled chicken caesar salad) with great portion and affordable! The gyro is tasty too!
google avatar

Yelp
Hate to say it but I would not go back. The waitress seamed like she didn't want to be there. Ordered calamari it was something out of a freezer heated up and served. Mist Greek places I have been to have excellent calamari freshly made. Also got the land/ beef Gyro salad the meat was ok not much salad. the overall experience was mediocre at best. They really need to up there game sorry to say.

Yelp
Me and 2 coworkers got Jimmy's to go while working from my coworkers house. All three of us ordered the lamb and beef gyro and an order of stuffed grape leaves on the side. 2 of us got fries and the third got a salad with their meal. I was the lucky one that picked up the food and got to smell the amazing aroma in the restaurant. The lady at the counter greeted me with a smile and our order was waiting on the counter when I arrived. When I arrived back at my coworkers the gyros and grape leaves didn't stand a chance. All the food tasted great and was gone in a flash. So fast that I forgot to take photos of the meals. Oops! Jimmy's is in the short list for East Brunswick. Great food and great service. Thanks.

Yelp
Food here is reliably good. Typical quick Greek fare that you would normally get at a diner. Their gyro has plenty of meat and has plenty of flavor. I would not mind getting this as a traditional standby. The pasta dishes they sell are also pretty good and work as two meals. Their lemon potato wedges are hit or miss, and as for their salads, they are full of iceberg lettuce. For those of you that have read enough of my reviews, you know my stance on iceberg lettuce. Since they do not deliver, I do not mind ordering from them and bringing it in. The amount of food you get, along with its quality, backs up the price.

Yelp
I never knew this place existed until this weekend and after ordering from here yesterday, I realized I was missing out. I ordered a Lamb and Beef Gyro Platter with Rice on the side. The platter (which was $12.50), had a generous serving of Greek Salad, Rice, Meat, and Pita Wedges. A lot of restaurants that I've frequented recently have been understandably reducing portions, but this doesn't seem to be the case with Jimmy's; my family and I were all very satisfied with each portion. As for the food itself, it was super tasty and fresh! The lamb and beef were cooked perfectly and the salad had a nice crunchy texture that complemented the rest of food. I also ate a few fries from my Mom's order, which were crispy and well-seasoned. Even though I only was in the store for a few moments to pick up, the service seemed super friendly and attentive. Hopefully the next time I come back, I'll be able to dine in and enjoy the food at the restaurant!

Yelp
If you're looking for an authentic Greek place in NJ area this is it! I placed an order for pickup as a quick dinner for my mom & I. The lady who answered the phone was very nice and accommodating. The food was ready in about 20-25 mins. I ordered the falafel platter which was AMAZING, and my mom had the chicken souvlaki platter. Nothing better then finding authentic mom & pop restaurants with quality food! 10/10 recommend if you're into Greek cuisine
google avatar

Dena D.

Yelp
Good food, small place so it can be a bit uncomfortable if no one else is there perhaps this is by design? The moussaka is the entire reason I dine here :-)

Yelp
Who Knew !!! Not me, I've been searching for a Neighborhood Greek restaurant to get a good Gyro I live 5 minutes away, it's in a small strip mall on Summerhill Road, which I must have passed a thousand times I saw it recommended on Facebook and decided to try Everything is delicious, you must try their lemon potatoes Glad I found you, even if it did take 20 years
google avatar

Yelp
Delicioussss and authentic. Good portions and fresh! I'm looking forward to going back to try more of their specialties. Very nice family owned business
google avatar

Yelp
We found this restaurant while in the area visiting family. We thought we would try it based upon the reviews. Definitely not disappointed!!! The service was great, friendly and inviting. We did not feel rushed! The food was fresh and really good!! We would recommend to anyone and will definitely be back!!!

Yelp
Amazing food , very authentic . We've always ordered out from here, and have always been blown away from the great gyros, and tasty salads. However went once in person, and wish the place were a bit cleaner .
google avatar

Yelp
Great little no frills Greek spot close to our house just off of Summerhill, we've ordered from here at least 20x and the food never misses!
google avatar

Terri C.

Yelp
The food is decent and the menu is is pretty extensive. I ordered a chicken gyro; my husband ordered a lamb and beef gyro (take out). The gyro comes with lettuce, onions, tomato and tzatziki sauce, all rolled up in a pita. The chicken gyro was fine but I had better, probably because the tzatziki sauce was a little too thick for me. I'd like to try some of their other dishes next tIke.

Beverly N.

Yelp
Authentic Mediterranean flavor. All food is made fresh. We had Greek salad, spanokapita, and lamb and beef gyros for dinner. Then we had Greek coffee, baklava, and galaktoboureko (Phyllis creamy custard pie). Friendly and attentive service. We enjoyed the music as we dined. Highly recommend. Eat in tables or take-out is available.

Yelp
We ordered our usual gyro platters and of course we love them. But tonight two of us ordered the moussaka with creamy spinach rice, lemon potatoes and salad. I have had moussaka in many states and will say this dish including the spinach rice tops any I have ever eaten, truly a winner combo. The lemon potatoes were also perfect, they had the right amount of lemon, not too tart, one could enjoy the taste of the potato. The salad was crisp and I decided to use my grandson's honey mustard dipping sauce (came with his chicken fingers) as a salad dressing. It was delicious, not too sweet and light. My son and daughter-in-law helped us finish our generous portions and raved about our dinner choice. Compliments to the chef and staff! We will visit again soon. Spanakopita will be my next choice.
google avatar

Roberto M.

Yelp
some of the best greek food in the area, hands down! the portions are great and ingredients always fresh. the falafel platter is a fav of mine - too good!

Nikita M.

Yelp
I've been coming here for over 3 years now and the quality has been the same since day one. There's a verity of delicious options on the menu and the gyro sandwiches are our favorite! The food is ready very quickly, perfect for takeout and never had my order messed up. Sam is a great guy and runs a great business.

J B.

Yelp
We have been here several times & enjoy the food very much. The people are helpful & nice. Service is fast.

Yelp
The pandemic work-from-home thing has admittedly made it tough for me to get to Jimmy's frequently as I don't live close to the restaurant. Nevertheless, I have made it a practice to always support and patronize the location when I come in to the office. The food is still outstanding, as is the welcoming feel. Thank you Jimmy's for hanging tough during the health emergency and being there! Please support this excellent local business and treat yourself to a great, fresh meal!
google avatar

Mara G.

Yelp
Some of the best hummus, babaganoush, and tzatziki I have ever had! I also had a Greek salad with chicken and everything was very fresh and the chicken perfectly cooked. My sister had kebabs and the lemon potatoes - tried a bite of hers and can't speak highly enough of the potatoes! Will definitely be going back. Fantastic!

Dave R.

Yelp
This is one of the most underrated spots in NJ, definitely in Middlesex County. Low key subtle and discreet. What more can you ask? Phenomenal food, phenomenal people. I have been frequenting this spot for so long and told countless people yet, It still seems to stay under the radar. That is what I consider a gem. Sure it's not McDonald's prices but this is top quality. You know this food was made with love. Part of me is happy that there are not lines outside, like one of the best greek places in the US (greek isles taverna Ft. Lauderdale) and this one is so much closer! Love this place sooooo much
google avatar

Jonathan R.

Yelp
I took 2 falafel sandwiches to go. I cannot comment on the table service. Cute strip mall restaurant, a dozen tables are so byob. Menu has a large variety of Greek specialties. Their falafel sandwich is good heavy on the garlic, I chose to have it with tzicki sauce as opposed to tahini. I would have liked more sauce on it, onions, lettuce and tomatoes are on top. They makebthe falafel sandwich like a gyro as opposed to a stuffed pita. Everything is rolled up. I asked for hot sauce however when I get home there wasn't any on the sandwich. 2 sandwiches ran $15, higher than what I pay in brooklyn. I Normally get 2 for $10. I enjoyed the sandwich and will likely try then again.

Yelp
Never been disappointed at Jimmy's Greek American Grill and this week was no exception! Our favorites are the Spanakopita, Lamb & Beef Gyro Platter with Greek salad and Greek Salad served with grilled chicken or Gyro meat. And we can't resist the baklava! But this time we got Spanakopita, Shrimp Souvlaki Platter, and Falafel Gyro with salad and it was all delicious! Jimmy's is a comfortable atmosphere and the service is friendly and attentive. It's BYOB and we've enjoyed various dinner entrees and meeting friends there for dinner over the years. Try Jimmy's... you'll enjoy it!

Yelp
Went here for the first time a few weeks ago. Loved the falafel and tzatziki with pita. Pita was warm and tzatziki was delicious. Boyfriend had the tilapia, I think, was delicious. The sauce was amazing. My daughter had the chicken gyro, which she liked, her friend had the lamb and beef and she didn't care for it, seemed dry. But overall, maybe not best for kids who aren't used to Greek food, but adults loved. Would definitely go back without kids.

Michael M.

Yelp
Not bad. They offer consistent taste, quality with large portions sizes and fair prices. You can't go wrong with their dinners. The gyro meat is very good too. I would definitely recommend.
google avatar

Mike E.

Yelp
Great food in a otherwise area void of culture. Family that owns this restaurant takes pride in serving you and providing options to satisfy any taste. Fresh, fresh, fresh. Always a good meal.

Yelp

Yelp
Been living in spotswood for three years but never even noticed this place. Ordered pick up yesterday for the first time and it was ready quickly. The food was fresh and the place was clean. I had the Greek salad.. the stuffed grape leaves were so good. And then I had the Spanakopita which was delicious too. Will definitely order again.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food. Rude owner. Arrived at 8:50 Saturday night, place closes at 10:00. Waitress told us upon seating we had less than ten minutes to order because the kitchen closes at nine. We explained we had one more person coming, thankfully he got there fast. Tried telling the owner we needed just a few minutes and he rudely told us no. His wife tried to smooth it over. Food is good, but I found a curly black hair in my salad. (I'm blonde and my husband is bald). Paid for our meal and never mentioned it. Wasn't the first time the owner was a bit rude. Think it's time to take my business Elsewhere. Shame.

Yelp
My fiancé is Greek & just moved to town with me a year ago. This is his go to spot. We always know we will get great quality food.
google avatar

Jennifer J.

Yelp
Sat in at the restaurant today for lunch. My husband and I both had the Greek chicken gyro sandwich combo. The combo comes with choice of side: lemon potatoes, French fries or Greek fries ( fries seasoned with lemon and topped off with feta cheese) I had the Greek fries which were so delicious! the lemon and feta complimented each other nicely. Hubby said the regular fries were fresh and crispy. Now the gyro sandwiches were to die for. Meat was so tender and flavorful , not dry at all. It was stuffed with lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, and tzatziki sauce. We agreed - one of the best gyros we've ever had. restaurant is quaint and clean. The girl that waited on us was very nice and attentive. Delicious Greek food close to home!

Robert T.

Yelp
I always enjoy the Lamb and Beef gyro platter. Great food, good value. Don't forget the Greek salad side.

Yelp
Great food but this place used to give decent portions. My last girlfriend and I went there and that's when I noticed the difference in the foods quantity. For the piece they charge they should Give more. But on the brute side that day they had a gentleman playing some Greek traditional music. And that made up for the experience as corny as it May seem.

Kayla L.

Yelp
Very good Greek food and staff is friendly. Has a warm mom and pop feel. If you live In the area, you must try it out!
google avatar

Craig B.

Yelp
This is a small place that happens to stand out because it's not like you can get good Greek or any Greek food at the drop of a hat. I've been here quite a few times and the food is always really good and consistent which gets big props in my book. Stop in support a small business that deserves to stay open. Everyone is always friendly, the waitresses are great and always get the orders right. Another thumbs up for that. Casual is fine so no need to dress up. Stop in fill up and take some items home.
google avatar

Nicole P.

Yelp
4 of us for dinner. Expensive for the portion served. Had chicken souvlaki and I only 6 very small pieces of chicken. Mostly tasteless. 2 in my party had gyros which they really liked . 1 spanakopita was soggy and not at all authentic. Would only go back for a sandwich ..maybe. Service was very good, though, and our waitress was very attentive.
google avatar

Nari B.

Yelp
These are the worst people on earth !!!! My mother has been going in there for years and the lady at the front misunderstood my mom and put an order of 3 fish dinners and my mother only wanted 1 and the owner told my mother shes never allowed in there again. I will make sure everyone i knows never eats from this horrible place to eat. They treat customers like garbage

Stephen S.

Yelp
This place is FIRE!!! Wow the salad is heavy and the portions are huge! I can't wait to order again !!! So fresh

Jake B.

Yelp
My wife have eaten here a few times, plus take out, and have enjoyed the food, service and cleanliness. Though it might not be much to look at from the street ( located in a small strip of 1/2 dozen stores ) we love their falafel platters. Very fresh and brightly flavored. The warm stuffed grape leaves were a nice variation from the more typical cold and firm, these melt in your mouth. Be sure to get the Greek fries with seasoning and feta cheese ( best when eaten in the restaurant otherwise the fries get soggy ). Isn't that what usually happens with most take out? It's a big portion of delicious food, don't take my word for it, you should try it for yourself.
google avatar

Yelp
After several visits sadly I've noticed some inconsistencies, today's lamb and chicken were dry and the salad kinda wilty. The product is still quite above average, but a lil disappointed today and for me a superior product in this day and age of competition must reign supreme or consumers may and will go else where. So, I will stand by my original review, but drop a star from 4 to 3. I love me some Lamb gyro something fierce and you'll leave as happy as your wallet. Oh you little Taziki sauce you, spread in globs all over you little tender chunks of lamb/beef combined with tomato, onion and lettuce with a splash of hot sauce. You call to my inner carnivore like a wolf to a tiny lamb baaaaing until the big bad wolf makes his move. Hi there little lamb, have you lost your mommy, we'll let me help you into my stomach, but watch yourself as you slide down my throat only to meet my digestive juices. Yum yum, baby. At $8 for an ample sammich I'm in. Yes the salad in good and many accompanying Greek dishes to boot. But this guy can't get past the wonderful affordable sizable Gyro. BYOB bonus. Clean with Greek choice tunes lightly flowing from the speakers. Friendly attentive service. You'll love it, Opa!

Yelp
Ordered through yelp. Very convenient. By buddy is a keto-guy, and when I asked them to pack the potato and rice separate from the meat they followed instructions perfectly. My gyro was great, and wife loved the falafel and hummus. We ordered a "street food" lunch and ate outside... loved every second of it.
