Enjoyed a fantastic steak and eggs here. I got the 10oz ribeye and it was cooked perfectly. The steak was thick and juicy and seasoned perfectly. I requested medium eggs and they actually did them correctly. Eggs yolk was perfect and not over cooked. Usually when I order medium eggs somewhere they come runny and I don't like that. Hash browns were thick and crispy, very good. The biscuits were fantastic with a golden light crust and moist inside. I drank an Arnold palmer and the drink was fantastic as well. Our server was very nice and the food came out pretty quickly and it was pretty busy. The place has a vintage diner feel which is exactly what I look for when choosing a breakfast establishment. Great place!

Food was good, not long of a wait to receive our order. Very peaceful and quiet at night time close to closing time. Friendly folk. Everything was clean, no sticky tables. Unfortunate items missing from order and a knat found in a drink, drink was replaced no of charge and due to missing items and drink mishap the waiter was kind enough to give the table biscuits no of charge. Portions are average size.

Love a diner. Breakfast is excellent (only meal I've had). Menu reads like a star country cookbook. Definitely sit at the counter (unless several) for the full diner experience. The servers are amazing. Nothing better for any morning.

Jim’s is pretty underrated. Traditional American breakfast food but better than Denny’s and IHOP imho. Plus, they’re huge portions. The chicken fried steak was on point, and the family was happy with their food. I also have to mention that their hostess at this location is pretty stellar, entertaining babies with silliness and successfully turning their sour moods to laughter.

A very 90s atmosphere will have you feeling nostalgic. Food was very well served and super in budget. The whole family loved it.

I’ve been coming here for over 25 years. It always feels like home. Ginger is my go to server but I’ve never had bad service. Mario and Carol run a close 2nd. The management staff is always friendly and accommodating Keith, Danny, Oscar just to name a few. If you are looking for a wonderful dining experience with friendly, customer oriented staff this is the place to go.

Man do we love little traditional breakfast spots like Jim’s! They have crispy hash browns, delicious pancakes, eggs how you like em and all American breakfast options. The service from our server was awesome and the food was done well. It’s an old school vibe with zero upgrades but man I love that. I’m sure lunch will be good too!

I love everything we got, literally EVERYTHING. They also offer free kid's dinner on Sunday and Monday. Such a great deal! By the way, if you don't like mushrooms, you should try their fried mushrooms - - it's a game changer.

Jim's has been a staple for years. Old diner like feel with the best service, always. Homestyle food with great taste. Pie is AMAZING. I hope they never shut down

Recently ate at Jim's on Research. First time ever at a Jim's. The AC was barely working -- and yet the place was full. If I hadn't been meeting a friend, I would have left. The bacon tasted piggy -- which makes me think it was old. I don't know how a breakfast-serving place would have old bacon. The scrambled eggs and hash browns were fine. But the much-lauded biscuits were quite a let-down: super soft, no crust. I had to eat it with a fork! The service was kind and I feel for anyone working there without AC. The waitress said it had been like that for a couple of weeks!

Always the best comfort food. Jinger always so friendly, Mario too. Everything cooked fresh to order, no hanging out under the heat lamp. Club sandwich HUGE! Can have 2 meals from it. Only place I know you can find wonderful liver and onions with homemade brown gravy! Love coming here.

Get the chocolate cake! Jim's serves The Platonic Ideal of chocolate cake. I can't believe how many times I've skipped getting chocolate cake at Jim's. My life is significantly worse off for each piece of chocolate cake I didn't eat. Just trust me and get it. (Ok, if you really need me to bring logic and reason into this, it's dense, fudgy, and huge, for only $3.99.)

Today my 2 friends and I went to this Jim's after haven't met for lunch since November. We had 2 migas plates and ground beef and eggs breakfast. Kelli waited on us and she was great, personality, funny, we never had to ask for anything. Good and drinks were hot tasty well presented and a great price. Plenty of parking and easy to get to. Come on over it's great.

A great establishment. Very comforting and loving service and food. Perfect hangover breakfast haha. Large portions too. Want to come back for dinner!

The crew at store #11 in Austin is absolutely great. Keith, Danny, Oscar, Jinger, Scott, Mario, Ray, and the entire crew are so nice and professional and always make us feel at home when we visit. We dine in at this Jim's every Sunday and often grab to-go orders during the work week. The food and service is always great and has always been since 2001! It is obvious the management team at this store truly cares about providing their customers with a pleasant dining experience. They have a good mixture of seasoned veterans and new faces that combine to give you an experience that will bring you back time and time again!!

The food here is always amazing!!! They have a nice variety for breakfast and fantastic biscuits!!! When I lived closer I would go at least once a week!!!

I just had the best dining experience since moving to Austin a year ago. To be honest I arrived in a bad mood. My morning was just not going right. For one, I skipped dinner last night and was absolutely "hangry". For breakfast I ordered the 10oz ribeye steak (medium), 3 eggs (over medium), hash browns, 2 biscuits (with gravy) and a bottomless cup of coffee for less than $20!!!! WTF?!?! Everything was cooked perfectly. The steak was at least 50% thicker than anything you would get at Dennys or IHOP. No A-1 needed. I added black pepper to everything and Tabasco to my hash browns but that was all that was needed. Everything was flavorful and fresh. I was truly impressed from the second I stepped into the building and I left satisfied both physically and mentally because the staff was so very friendly, fast and informative. The host was kind and addressed me immediately. The waitress was a true professional who was at least 3 tables deep when I arrived in her section. She didn't need to write a single thing down. My coffee cup was never empty and the kitchen had my food ready fast and it arrived hot. I was never pressured to leave after I was done eating. I got to enjoy my coffee, write this review and really take-in the environment. It was comfortable. Not fast paced and stressful like a Dennys or an IHOP. To my left I was lucky enough to overhear/eavesdrop on some elderly veterans talk about everything from WWII planes to, ammo, to other parts for the world they served in. To my right was another elderly man who came and went with a backpack. He was just enjoying his coffee. He seemed to have a mental disability. I heard him sort of moaning to himself quietly. That being said, my faith in humanity was restored to witness the waitress be so kind and gentle with him. This is the type of place I would be honored to become a regular. Thank you so very much for fixing my morning. I'll absolutely be back.

I love this place and the food doesn't disappoint. It must be miserable to work there though because I've had at least 3 servers at different visits complain about how they're glad they will get off work soon. Last week the man serving us mentioned it 3 or 4 times but never brought extra napkins that I asked for 3 times after using the ones we had to wipe up a spill. He never refilled coffee and never checked on us until we were finished and he dropped the check. But I know he was excited to get off work in an hour!

I would like to personally thank Joshua for taking care of us on an extremely busy day. He was diligent in our order didn't leave us waiting and was very accommodating. Thanks again Joshua I wish every weight staff was like you.

Jim's is one of our all-time favorite restaurants. I don't remember the first time I went to the Jim's on 183, but I estimate it was around 1978. Over the years, I have always enjoyed great service and great food. You can tell this must be a special place because the employees like it and stay there for years. Next time you go, make sure and say hello to Mario, Ginger, or any of the others at the North location, or Esmerelda at the South location that makes Jim's one of our favorites. We made a habit years ago of taking our kids there after church on Sundays as kind of a treat, and they always looked forward to getting their milkshakes! Sorry it took me over 30 years to write a review but thanks for all the happy memories!

This iconic establishment serves old-school no-frills diner food. Lower your expectations - you won't find here any fine dining, nothing on the menu is amazing or particularly healthy - but for the old-school-diner genre it's quite decent, including the octogenarian staff that makes you feel you're back in time.

4pm on a Sunday afternoon 1 server so the service was horrible. Waited 15 minutes to be asked about drinks. Order took another 30 minutes. Order was wrong, fries and cheese sticks taste like they were fried in dirty grease. I've always enjoyed Jim's but it has really gone downhill.

The male manager was licking the front doors at 7. I spent good money on food and didn't even get my whole orde. He was not answering the phone so I went in and ordered to go. He was completely unprofessional and rude! Half of what I went into order he said they were out of. I eat at Jim's atleast every week if not more. There was no excuse for the service and locking the doors an hour before closing time. Everyone in there had to wait for him to unlock the door to leave! I will not be going to Jim's anymore. I also will be telling everyone about this experience!

Only thing keeping my review at a 2 star review instead of a 1 star review was the actual food itself was pretty good. The place is cozy like every other Jims location but this one was a little more worn out than usual and is in some disrepair. Service was absolutely slow and very inattentive for how much was going on. It was 11:15 in the morning, hardly any tables yet it still took them about 5 minutes to great us and seat us at a table. Over 15 minutes for our waitress to acknowledge us and take our order. Our drinks came with in a minute of our food. What should have be a 30 minute experience turned into over an hour waiting. I do not recommend this location unless you plan of spending your entire afternoon waiting.

Waited 40 fucking minutes to get seated just for them to tell me I have to wait for a certain table to finish eating!!! Every time I come I never wait no matter how busy it is. Little girl putting everyone's name in didn't even acknowledge us the whole damn time!!

My only gripe is that they're no longer 24 hours. Been going to Jim's years now..used to be our late night spot. Had both breakfast and dinner items and it's all satisfying, super inexpensive and filling.

The place is one the most underated restraunts in austin. Great food great service FAST SERVICE and ive been coming for years they never dissapoint. Inwould argue this is the best breakfast in austin specially co sidering the great prices. 10/10 recommended

I can rely on Jim's, North or South, whatever the hour, no matter what kind of weather. Many of Jim's staff have been there for years.

Such amazing and fast food. I got the Chicken Fried Steak breakfast and I could not be happier with it. Pipping hot, tender and flavorful. 10/10

It has been a while since I've been at this Jim's location, and it didn't take long for me to remember why. The service here is atrocious. Last time I was here, I ordered a simple breakfast plate at the counter. My server, actually the same one I had my last visit, forgot to turn in my order again. Last time I was here, she had to submit it three times, before it made it to the kitchen. Today, it only took her two times. However, still very hard to get a refill on coffee, and once again, shock shock no one checked back to see how everything was with my meal, or if I needed anything else to eat or... There is another Jim's restaurant a few miles further north on 183, and should I desire to go to Jim's again... It will be at the location at 183 and Spicewood Springs Service here is just horrible and management instead of helping Serve customers, is concerned about beating up staff with commentary on what all they are doing wrong. There is definitely a time and place for that, but when you have a restaurant full of people and customers who are waiting a unusually long amount of time to get their food and to get served, Might not be the best time to input it into that type of activity.

Listen up! I LOVE JIM's and I go to my local on Research Blvd. at least two times a week. They know me there, they take good care of me, and I leave feeling valued for my hard earned money. That said, tonight was my WORST customer experience at any Jim's EVER. One young man was serving all 7 - 8 tables with NO SUPPORT from the manager. "Oscar" the waiter was trying to keep up with a seemingly positive attitude, but he was spread too thin and it made him ineffective for everyone involved. 1) I waited at the front for over 10 minutes before Oscar offered a table. 2) Waited another 10 minutes. Got up and ASKED for a menu and beverage. 3) Another 10 minutes and no order taken. So the manager comes out of his hole in the back to see 4 customers waiting up front to pay. He takes their money with his usual uninterested stone-faced expression, and as he starts to go back in the back I flag him down and tell him the situation. "The waiter has been in the weeds for 30 minutes and he NEEDS HELP." His response was, "I have things to do back here." He called to Oscar to take my order and disappeared again for another 20 - 30 minutes. 4) I have now been at Jim's for 30 minutes and Oscar finally takes my order. (Good news: Kitchen staff is fast, order is accurate and food quality is good.) 5) Oscar serves the plate at table and leaves. I then realize I have never been given any utensils. Oscar is now at the front desk taking payments, so I wait another 8 minutes for him to finish, and I get the silverware. My menu never left the table. 6) Halfway through eating Oscar brings the check and says, "No rush." Damn right there's NO RUSH! None in the wait service, none by the manager, no apology for any delay or neglect, NONE. 7) Finally, I am at the desk to pay the bill. I eat this exact meal often and I know what to expect; however, my card was charged $2 more than usual. Why?. Oscar charged me $1.99 for the "double rye" I order every time I have a breakfast meal. Up to today, for years, I'm never charged for a second piece of bread. I guess Oscar was following his training? In any case, If Oscar wonders where the other half of his TIP went, I deducted it to pay for that $2. piece of bread. He'll figure it out sooner or later. No rush...

This is the quintessential diner that you've been searching for! Jinger helped me at the bar and was so friendly and welcoming. I'm a first timer from New York. She told me everything was made in house and that the eggs are cracked for every order, not some fake eggs. You could taste that they were real. The biscuits were so fluffy and warm, the hash browns were amazing. I plan to be a regular here. Place was packed so expect a wait on weekends or sit at the bar (no wait)!

Ambiance -this place needs a remodel and deep clean of restaurant. The food looks good. The place is past due on need of renovation and proper cleaning.

This place always hits the spot, it's very consistent. And also the manager, John, is awesome and fixes all of our little needs. Also very fair price for a good portion of food.

I moved to this area 8 yrs ago. Jim's (Burnett& 183) Restaurant immediately made me feel welcome. Through the years, I have become great friends with Jinger, Mario, and Michelle! Please don't ever lose these 3! They are the best at Customer Service! Also, this Jim's (i've been to others) has great pies and cakes for purchase and they are very reasonably priced! I love a good diner which means good food at a reasonable price. Jim's fit the bill! My wife and I were in the area and decided to try it for breakfast. The food was unpretentious and good solid diner food. To boot, the service was extremely pleasant! We'll be back!

A long time Austin favorite that the city government has not been able to shut down! The food gets better every time. If you like liver and onions, get the pan fried (not on the menu) and its two slices of heaven with onions! The staff are always attentive and truly like helping their customers. As a regular with 40 years of eating here, this is the reason everyone still comes here, young and old.

Coming to Austin from San Antonio, (YEARS ago) this was a bit of comfort from home when we moved to Austin. The wait staff are always nice, even with short staffing and pandemic craziness. (Be nice to these folks, they work hard!) Breakfast is wonderful, food is always good, home cooking style, and the biscuits are almost always the best around. My bunch has been going there for years with very little complaints. Their burgers are good, and the chicken fried chicken breast is the best!!

First time to go order and the last. Sandwich was soggy and French fries undercooked. Also ordered two club sandwiches and only received one and the other order was chicken nuggets which no one wanted.

Jim's chain of restaurants are pretty standard. I got exactly what I expected for as 1am post-bar hop breakfast (except the grits - GAG - I'll get to that in a bit). There were only two of us still standing, so we chose to sit at the bar top. The service was TOP NOTCH; VERY friendly, down-to earth, courteous, and fast. No zombie, "I really hate my job and don't want to be here" type folks at this Jim's locale. One word of caution though - I somehow managed to slam my shin on a something under the counter that left a gnarly bump the next day. Ouch. Jim's 24/7 menu choices did not disappoint. Breakfast anytime, as well as soups, salads, sandies, burgers, country fair (CFS, Liver $ Onions, etc.), and even a seafood section (e.g., grilled tilapia; admittedly kind of scary!). The "Homestyle Breakfast" for me: 2 eggs cooked perfectly OE, bacon extra crisp, hash browns, and WW toast dry. Everything came out correct on the first try. Impressive! "Steak and Egg" breakfast for the hubby: Nicely seared charbroiled 6 oz. sirloin mid-rare with 2 eggs over-hard, toast, and sadly THE most disgusting, runny, flavorless grits I have ever tasted. In all honesty they should have been sent back, but my husband was pleased with all of his other grub. One fluffy, yummy pancake to share - and I don't even really like pancakes. Meh coffee, so the hubster said...and he knows his Joe. Overall: Sure, yay I'm a fan. At least for late night, buzzed munchies goodness, Jim's will do the job and hit the spot. As a bonus, their offerings seem to be a bit less expensive than the other "I" and "D" place chains - PLUS it's Texas owned and operated, so support local (kind of). Just maybe where shin guards next time if sitting at the bar, and definitely skip the grits! ;) Merp.

So cheap and so good. There is nothing better than an affordable meal with great taste. I won't lie, the service there isn't typically great tho on occasion you'll get a wonderful server.

Good food I've never been disappointed. Friendly fast wait staff. Today I had the Eggs Benedict which were very good, and the side of fruit was fresh cut and very delicious.

i grew up around this neighborhood all my life and i never had the luxury to dine-in. but today was the day that i checked that out of my bucket list, i strongly highly recommend this delicious top notch dinner!!! 11 out of 10 in my opinion. also denny's & ihop don't got nothing on jim's

The night started out as all nights do, light drinking of water and heavy smoking. Midnight rolled around and our collective stomachs grumbled. We deigned to refuel at the nearest [insert late night national chain] and found ourselves waiting in the lobby staring at the claw machine, dazed with hunger, for ten minutes. Finally one server flagged us that he would seat us shortly. He never even welcomed us. We waited a few more minutes before we finally had seats and a few more for menus and water. After much deliberation and sorting through their need to stay relevant in current culinary arts trends, we reluctantly chose our dishes and waited for the waiter. 20 minutes and our cups empty, we were still waiting for our orders. Frustrated and hungry we absconded with our dignity. A small drive later we stumbled into Jim's. We marveled in hungry wonder at the pies on display. We must have looked desperate, because we were immediately welcomed, and seated at a booth. The butter was golden, the steak and pork chops were thick and juicy. The biscuits were soft and fragrant. The server was on point and friendly. He had us in stitches and we had to be wheeled out because we were so completely full. They even slid us a slice of pie as an apology for late coming toast. Is this my home? I feel like I finally belong... no wait that's just some gravy.

Ok at first look this place looks like a fifties dinner. When we went in it has the feel of of the dinner in pulp fiction both my husband and I thought it lol! The food was really good! I had the breakfast food and was very impressed! The pancakes are soooo big when they brought out all the food I was regretting adding the oatmeal. The oatmeal was worth it though! I would totally recommend this place! Eat well!

I stopped by because of the traffic issues and order food, but what I received in return was a terrible environment. While sitting here, I had to watch the manager sit down and play on her phone next to me. Listen to an employee talks crap about his co-worker and being out sick to the manager and she was partaking in the conversation. I ordered the Thursday special. I had to wait for my drink after ordering. This was NOT a busy time either. This is not Jim's standard. They need better management and personnel here.

Arrived last night and was greeted by an obese woman wearing an orange shirt and glasses. Was treated VERY RUDELY AND PUSHY. This woman should NOT be seating people or talking to customers at all. WILL NOT BE BACK. VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE! DO NOT EAT HERE!

Great diner, with some good diner food. I apparently was having a serious craving for cheese when I came. Started off with an order of mozzarella sticks, very good. Then had soup/salad combo. Apparently there is a thing called cheese soup, and it is amazing! Very similar tasting to potato soup. Probably clogged a few arteries, but was definitely worth it.

I am in love with their chili and eggs. I've gotten them for both lunch and dinner and they are always fantastic. I prefer toast to tortillas and they always accommodate. The service is very good with friendly waitresses that make sure you have an enjoyable visit and meal. Their sweet tea was very good at lunch, and they keep your coffee cup full in the morning. Great diner atmosphere and my favorite 24 hour place for breakfast at any hour.

Let me first confess that I am a Jim's aficionado having grown up in San Antonio. That said, the service the food and the atmosphere are the one thing that my family can always agree on and we have Sorely missed eating here during the pandemic. My son had one wish for his "last meal "before school started again and it was to eat at Jim's so we ordered over the phone and picked up. It was the most satisfying meal we have had in a long time. We will be back much more frequently to do this exact same thing, thank you very much!

I went here for lunch this afternoon (this was my first time experience) and Mary, Michelle and Jinger were very friendly and welcoming towards their patrons, today's experience at Jim's Restaurant is some of the friendliest and most welcoming servers I've ever experienced, Mario was my server and he was a really funny guy who seemed to be enjoying his job, I had the chicken fried chicken, mac & cheese and mashed potatoes & gravy, the chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes were great and the mac & cheese was good, including a soda I was able to have my meal for under $15 which felt like I took a return trip back to the pre-COVID era of pricing. I'm definitely looking forward to come back

Excellent breakfast. Not a fan of chain restaurants but this is nowhere like an ihop or a Denny's. Quality food and affordable prices. I see what all the hype is about now.
