Jing Fong is Chinatown's beloved dim sum haven, serving up a delicious spread of dishes, from fluffy har gow to crispy roast duck, all now in a cozier spot.
"Rice Rolls "There are rice rolls all over the city. Joe's Rice Roll, they have a machine that they make it with. Jing Fong, which is on the Upper West Side, if you sit at the counter there and you watch that man make those rice rolls, he doesn't have a machine. It is beautiful to watch. It is such an art. The way he knows exactly when to cover it...I go there just to watch that particular ballet. I happen to love the rice rolls, too. But for me, it's more about just watching someone who has one thing down perfectly." - brennan carley
"Don’t weep for the old Jing Fong. Sure, you might miss the long escalators at the old space on Elizabeth Street, but the relocated version north of Canal is maybe even better. Get some steamed egg custard buns and chicken feet, and don’t miss out on the fried turnip cakes. Jing Fong’s dim sum always tastes like it just arrived from the kitchen, and they also serve worthwhile non-dim sum dishes, including some of the crispiest roast duck in Chinatown. Unfortunately, everyone seems to know about Jing Fong. Either stop by on a weekday (when they don’t do cart service), or prepare for a serious wait." - bryan kim, molly fitzpatrick, neha talreja, willa moore, will hartman
"Jing Fong’s dining room normally fits 800 people, so eating outdoors in their covered tent will obviously feel a little different than the indoor experience here. They’re still serving chewy sesame balls and bacon-wrapped shrimp that will successfully interrupt your dreams, as well as takeout if you’d rather eat your dim sum at home. Just call 212-964-5256 to place your order ahead of time or stop by and do it at their window." - hannah albertine

"Jing Fong is approximately the size of a college basketball stadium, and it still gets really crowded. This makes it a fun option for dim sum brunch or group dinners in Chinatown. Most of the tables here are round, and there are options whether you’re with a few friends or half the people in your contact list. The menu, like the space, is massive, but you can also pick things up off dim sum carts as they’re rolled by." - bryan kim, matt tervooren
