Pricey, but delicious! Such a pleasant dining experience. Feels like a home cooked meal from friends in the comfort of your living room. I love how this space is secluded and tucked away. It feels like a hideaway in the middle of Union Square. I got a Jiva bowl but subbed avocado for tofu and ginger carrot dressing for tahini 😋

Updated (11/13/2017) 1-star: They changed the menu. I ordered a yogi bowl - really wanting the JIVAbowl, no longer on the menu - which was a huge heaping pile of brown rice and a little bit of tempeh and half an avocado for $16. Not great. I'm disappointed. Was much better my previous visit. (10/6/2017) 5-star: Delicious, zen cafe hidden on the second floor of a large yoga studio and shop right behind Union Square. I got the JIVAbowl which was wholesome, delicious and filling. Also got a lemon poppy lavender cookie which was scrumptious. A little pricey, but it's expected with vegan/organic. Card only, counter service.

Come to the second floor of the building to enjoy all this delicious vegan food! Don't be intimidated!! Come up! In the middle of the week, lunch hour, it was a very nice and calm environment. Plenty of seats available! Much better than getting anything at a packed Whole Foods Market... I really liked the food, the lentil dahl was thick, hot and well seasoned. Vegan hot chocolate was smooth and rich in taste - you can choose from soy or almond milk. Delicious!!!

I can't say enough good things about this place. The staff was friendly and helpful — just fantastic. The woman who took my order was so kind and patient. Pictured is the JivaBOWL ($16), Enlightened smoothie ($10), and a cappuccino cupcake ($?). The food is not inexpensive but it is soooo good. While on vacation, I wasn't eating as well as I should, and this hearty vegan/organic bowl and smoothie meal brought me back into focus. I could feel the fresh, nutritious ingredients nourishing my body as I ate. It was beyond delicious. I would definitely like to visit this cafe again on my next visit to NYC. It is on the second floor, along with a yoga studio and a small shop. The cafe is colorful and very clean. It has a good atmosphere overall.

Jivamuktea is a vegan Café located within the Juvamukti Yoga Center located in Union Square and offers international cuisine options that do not impress. Food ** We ordered the BLT and Quesadillas (latter based on hosts suggestion). The BLT is compromised of tempeh bacon, soy-free daiya cheese, & tomato, in a folded tortilla. The BLT could have been really good had they cut the avocado on it and spread it out to make sure that each bite included all the ingredients in the recipe, especially the avocado. The tempeh bacon was minimal and while its texture was good it lacked flavor. As for the Quesadillas, the cheese was lacking, MAJORLY. It basically evaporated in the cooking process and left us with remnants embedded into the tortilla. The selection of toppings saved it with the choice of vegan mayo, guacamole, and jalapeños. Atmosphere ** Has a very California, laidback feeling to it. However, the seats are very close together in a rather large space and the tables were not very clean. Service ** Hostess was fine but lacked personality and did not seem to be interested in engaging with the customers. Price $$ Way overpriced! Total of $32.67 for two menu items! Never again.

Jivamuktea Cafe is one of my favorite places to eat. The food is deliciously fresh, delicious, and consistent, with a wonderful selection to choose from. I love the fact that you can choose your own combo. Portions are always generous. Their soups are fantastic. They have a wonderful selection of salads. They also have variety in grain and bean choices, which some vegan places don't offer. Their staff is very attentive and orders are filled promptly. It's a very relaxing atmosphere, in the midst of a yoga center, and the kitchen aroma is great, so dining is always pleasurable.

Fantastic vegan food. I had the breakfast sandwich and it was delicious. I also had the Love smoothie which was also tasty. It's a quiet little cafe on the second floor. Don't get discouraged if there is no sign out front. Just walk in and take the elevator to the 2nd floor. Staff was friendly. A little pricey but worth it as they put in the effort to get your order right.
