14 Great Los Angeles Neighborhood Restaurants - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"For most people, the Cahuenga Pass is the traffic apocalypse you submit yourself to only if you have to get yourself from Hollywood to The Valley on a weekday. But there’s actually a good reason to stop and take a breather here: Joe’s Falafel. The tiny stripmall spot is serving some of the best falafel in the entire city. Lines get long during lunch hour, but luckily their service is quick and efficient, getting you back to your death cubicle on time." - jess basser sanders, brant cox

The Best Falafel In LA - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Joe’s Falafel is one of those hidden strip mall spots that you either hear about from a friend of a friend or accidentally come across after peeling off of weekday traffic on Cahuenga Blvd. Luckily for you, you can wait out the mass exodus into the Valley at this spot with some great falafel, which is best enjoyed when smushed into some freshly baked lafa. Their light, creamy falafel has a nice nuttiness to it, some heat from chopped garlic, and tastes excellent with the lafa wrap’s tahini, hummus, and pickled turnips. And if you’re willing to subject yourself to the horrors of Cahuenga Pass traffic, these wraps are decently portable for a mid-rush hour bite." - sylvio martins

The 16 Best Restaurants In Studio City - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Joe’s Falafel is technically in Universal City, but this tiny strip mall spot has such good food, we’re choosing to ignore neighborhood boundary lines. Plus, its Cahuenga Pass location is around the corner from all the major studios, making it an ideal lunch-hour pilgrimage. You can’t really go wrong with anything at this order-at-the-counter spot, but the beef kabobs, chicken shawarma, and falafel sandwiches on fresh-baked laffa are good places to start. Also, outside of the large combo platters, pretty much everything falls under $16." - brant cox

8 Israeli Restaurants to Try Along the Valley’s Kosher Corridor | Eater LA

"Stepping into Joe’s Falafel felt like ordering a pita or shawarma at Machane Yehuda in Jerusalem: the falafel has a satisfying crispy bite paired with creamy hummus, the laffas are reliable, and the kafta is juicy and generously spiced; I made sure to finish with a piece of rosewater cake or a baklava as flaky and sweet as anything from Ramallah." - Oren Peleg

So delicious. Every few months I go through a phase where all I can eat is Joe’s Falafel. It’s so good that I just get hooked and can’t stop!! I’ve been a vegetarian for about 40 years so I’ve eaten A LOT of falafel, hummus, baba etc. Joe’s is in the top 3 and that’s including eating in the Middle East and Europe. So delicious, so fresh, nutritious. It’s also a perfect portion (two meals for me—tip—buy an extra pita:) at a totally reasonable price—it’s actually a bargain! AND the people are SO nice. Genuinely welcoming, nice and friendly! Joe is often there and is a very warm and kind person. And it’s clean, spacious and there’s parking. It’s perfection. LOVE JOES!

Google
The falafel wrap was great. Their hummus tastes delicious. Their chicken bowl was tasty and it had a very flavorful sauce to it. The rice is good in the bowl.

Authentic Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Food You haven't truly experienced the neighborhood until you’ve eaten at Joe’s Falafel. There is something special about a place where you see the owner, Joe, working side-by-side with his sons, Eli and Bishara. Their teamwork is seamless, and they make every customer feel like part of the family from the second they walk in. The food is consistently incredible, everything from the signature falafel to the fresh-baked laffa is served hot, fresh, and full of authentic flavor. It is easily some of the best Mediterranean food in Los Angeles. I really encourage everyone in the the neighborhood to come out and support this local, family-run gem. Businesses like this are the heart of our neighborhood, and Joe and his boys deserve all the success in the world for the hard work they put in every day. Don't miss out!

Google
VERY GOOD FOOD and service! The cashier girl was amazing! Portions are huge, chicken shawarma plate was very tasty 👏🏼 Beef kofta too! Highly recommend. Clean tables, great menu and friendly service.

Google
OMG! The bread used for the wraps was delicious! Family recipe shhh it's a secret. Friendly polite staff. Owner came out to greet us and gave us falafel samples that made my mouth water. Very tasty. Clean restaurant quiet laid back atmosphere. Thank you so much Joe's, from your customers that came from Tucson, AZ!

Helen P.

Google
My first time at Joe's and wow is all I can say, you don't go for the ambiance you go for incredible food. Iit was recommended to me so I thought I would check it out, the Kofta was exactly like my grandmother made it. The pita was amazing, but the real star was the falafel, best I've ever had. I can't wait to go back.

Bobbly S.

Google
It’s unparalleled. Just fantastic. You’ll walk in and feel like you’ve been to places like this but then take your first bite and realize there are not other places like this. The combination of unassuming straightforward service and truly masterfully good food is not something I’ve seen anywhere else. The only other place I’ve had bread of this quality was the countryside of Turkey and even then Joe’s might have them beat. It’s art in the form of food.

Amal A.

Google
The food was absolutely delicious and the hospitality unmatched. Falafels were soft and fluffy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. The kafta was the best I’ve ever tasted anywhere. Sooo juicy!! Portion sizes are definitely shareable. We were a family of 4 visiting from Texas and wanted something low key and quick. So glad we found this gem! Wil return on our next visit.

Yelp
I stumbled on this place through doordash one night years ago when I craved a falafel and i am so happy i did! One of the Best falafel I've ever had this includes the mid east. I know I need to try more items in the menu but I could eat the falafel everyday so that has been all I get. Hands down best place in LA. My only complaint is that its not walking distance from me so that I could eat the falafel everyday. It reminds me of how my family makes them. Just amazing. Must try!
google avatar

Justine R.

Yelp
Incredible falafel. Absolutely lives up to the hype. Falafel was the perfect consistency - moist with a crispy outside and SO tasty. The sauces are delicious. And I absolutely loved my baklava for desert! I got take out there but I would absolutely come back and sit down for a meal next time - they have a really nice setup inside for a strip mall restaurant and seems like they offer beer/drinks too! Everyone I spoke with was so sweet. Parking in the lot right outside. Absolutely recommend!!!!
google avatar

Yelp
The wraps here are insanely good. I always order ahead since it can take a little time but it's because they make everything fresh (including the bread). The falafel is unreal and they use super fresh ingredients. We got a plate last time which was good but not quite as stellar as the wraps. We'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
When we found out that Joe sold out we were worried..... often when restaurants sell to a new owner it's not always the best of situations. We've been pleasantly/deliciously surprised with the "new Joes"! Just picked up a vegetarian combo plate to go and it was FANTASTIC! Everything they produce is extremely fresh. They even bake their own pita bread! Their garlic paste, tahini and hot sauce is also wonderful. Thank you Joes!!!
google avatar

Cesar D.

Yelp
I have a universal studios pass and save my appetite for dinner here after the parks. Probably my favorite part of my day! They people are always so nice, looks like they're having a good time. Love their outdoor patio as well! The recent renovation inside is also very nice.
google avatar

Shaska L.

Yelp
Very clean and delicious food. Simple seeming menu but the freshness and tastiness of what they do serve makes it a winner. Drawbacks are parking is extremely limited so that may be discouraging if you can't find a place to park. Service is just counter service but they are very friendly. Would come again!
google avatar

Yelp
Got a plate with a smattering of things, and literally everything was great. I don't usually like chicken at some Mediterranean places, but both chicken dishes were juicy and flavorful. Staff was really friendly and accommodating. I'm gonna keep coming back!
google avatar

Ron W.

Yelp
All good except still Stingy on the Pita bread - need 2 pieces !! Otherwise fine - on time delivery and napkins/utensils in the bag for the bachelors of the world !!
google avatar

Mansta A.

Yelp
Really had high expectations for this place since it has such great reviews. I'm surprised to say the chicken Shawarma was lacking in flavor a bit. Needed some seasoning.. it's unusual for a Mediterranean place to lack in flavor, but I guess it's possible. Maybe they are better known for their falafel's? We also tried the lemon chicken wrap, and that needed some flavoring too . If you do go here, I would recommend getting the platter because you get a lot more food than with the wraps Overall, a disappointment and I wouldn't go back.

Yelp
On our way to watch movies at AMC Universal and looked for something healthy nearby and found this place. 1. Food - Based on the name, they are known for their falafels and they are one of the best we had. They have everything though - bowls, wraps, salads and sides (fries, hummus, tabbouleh , etc) so do check out their menu. We tried their Greek chicken salad, fries and falafel plus their Lafa bread (hot off the oven) and all are delicious. 2. Parking - Free parking inside the mini-mall - we quickly found one even though smaller area but noticed that people are in and out. There is metered parking also. 3. Service - you order in front and they bring to your table. Good and friendly staff.
google avatar

Ji K.

Yelp
Their falafel is the best I've ever tasted in all of Los Angeles and that is not an exaggeration Their bread is better than Raffi's The wraps are better than the kebab shop Even the Dolmas are better that Papa Cristi's Their prices are on point Interior is clean. I can't complain. I'll be coming back often.

Yelp
I'm so obsessed with Joe's I don't even know where to start. Perpetually on the hunt for a goooood authentic shawerma (and falafel, always), a deep dive into all the middle eastern spots in LA put Joe's on the map. Idk why it took me two years to finally try it but it's definitely not going to be that long before next time. We were pleasantly greeted upon entering the casual and clean-kept space. We ordered the shawerma laffa wrap, which is huge, pretty good for two if you're not too hungry. We also ordered a hummus with falafel on top. The bread alone--oh my God--like that alone will keep you wanting more. Joe's hand-makes their dough, then bakes the bread against a deep charcoal grill fresh to order! The chicken itself was flavorful and tender, along with the usual shawarma fillings. Their toum was very good as well! Their hummus is on the smoother, creamier, tahini side--which I personally am a huge fan of. The falafel were also very delicious as well. My fiance rarely enjoys falafel and to my surprise he really liked the ones a Joe's so that speaks volumes in my book! The cherry on top here is that they also serve beer and wine, which isn't very common for this type of place. All-in-all I can't recommend Joe's enough and we can't wait to be back!
google avatar

Taylor R.

Yelp
Wow, just as wonderful as it was the first time! The lemon chicken is tender and so flavorful. The rice is absolutely delicious and has great flavor. Their hummus is the most perfect texture and consistency. It pairs so nicely with the warm pita bread. The hot sauce is perfect for someone who likes a little heat. Be sure to try Joe's when you're in the area. It's delicious and will not disappoint!
google avatar

Sara K.

Yelp
Got this to go at least 3 times in the last 6 months and has been consistent with good quality each time. Some of the best falafels in town. The kabobs plates are delicious and plentiful. The laffah bread is the way to go, worth the few dollar upgrade. Staff is always friendly. Inside is clean but usually empty. It's in a random strip mall off the 101 by universal studios but a really great option for to go middle eastern/ Mediterranean food.
google avatar

Kendra B.

Yelp
For a FAST FOOD falafel joint this is the spot! Quick service and clean in an unassuming strip mall. I'm from DC so I didn't know what to expect but their ratings were good! Joes was a quick 10 mins walk from my hotel. I ordered the gyro with fries and the best part is the fries were seasoned and crispy! I even forgot to take pics. Sorry but definitely try if you're in the area.
google avatar

Sheeny A.

Yelp
Okay so, I got take out shawarma plate and the lemon chicken wrap. I am middle eastern and was disappointed of this spot. The chicken was bland did not have much flavor (lemon and shawarma), the plate didn't come with any sauce to eat with the bread and chicken, the salad didn't have much flavor, the hummus was a bit dry, and the wrap wasn't saucy enough. I will say though the bread was delicious and could tell it is freshly made. I do want to try it again and try the falafels next time since it is in the name of the restaurant, but not sure when that will be. Giving 3 stars for the bread!

J P.

Yelp
Recently had a bad experience here. I ordered some laffa bread (something I get often), but this time it was badly burnt. When I pointed it out, the big guy behind the counter was first evasive and then got confrontational, insisting it wasn't burnt and that if he made a new one it would be raw. I've had enough laffa to know the difference between what's burnt and not burnt. Charred spots can be normal (as with pizza), but truly burnt bread turns brittle and tastes overwhelmingly bitter. I couldn't eat it and had to toss it after a few bites. Hopefully, they improve both their laffa quality and how their staff handles customer feedback as the overall experience was incredibly unpleasant.
google avatar

Laurel R.

Yelp
Ordered food to go and got the lemon chicken plate also ordered a side of falafel and dolmas. So delicious the chicken is juicy and perfectly grilled loved the fresh pita bread. Their falafel was one of the tastiest I've had in a while. Will definitely be checking out more of the items in the future.
google avatar

Sera C.

Yelp
We ordered the vegetarian plates. The food came out very quickly and it's amazing. Very, very fresh and delicious. The falafel are incredibly filling: crunchy outside, moist inside. Baba ganoush and hummus are on point. Thick, hot pita bread. And all the freshness from tomatoes, cucumbers, slaws, and tabouli are on point. Service was so sweet. Stop by this place for a fast, fresh meal.
google avatar

Jess E.

Yelp
Unfortunately I was disappointed by the food after seeing such great reviews for this place. Ordered the chicken shwarma plate and the rice was the worst I've had in the Mediterranean restaurant. It was bland and had no flavor. Chicken was cooked alright but lack seasoning as well as the salad and hummus.
google avatar

Sameera M.

Yelp
I was visiting LA and was looking for a good Mediterranean restaurant. I walked in and Marat greeted us right away. His customer service was Excellent. Very patient because I did not know what to order with the menu. He was explaining everything to us. They had the right person in the front. Very clean place. They were very busy. The food was flavorful great portion and good price on the food. I wish they had a place like this in the Bay Area. My salad was so good the salmon was fresh and tender & juicy not dry at all. The coffee was perfect & the dessert was excellent. You definitely should try this place. Hummus is good too and I love they give you the pickled beets on the side. The falafel was excellent flavorful perfect crisp and perfect seasoning on the inside, not dry at all. Check them out you definitely won't be disappointed. My friend and I was eating and we met the owner Joe. He was a delight we were complementing him on his quality food and told him he should open one in the Bay Area. You can tell he has a passion for his food. Stop by the food is excellent and check out good looking Marat, tell him the girl from the bay area sent you.

Cynthia G.

Yelp
My husband and I traveled over 750 miles from New Mexico to eat here. It was so worth it! I had the falafel platter served with hummus, baba ghanoush & salad. The falafels were cooked perfectly & tasted great with their garlic paste. The texture of the hummus was perfect! The baba ghanoush was so flavorful. My husband's chicken shawarma wrap in lafa bread was sooo flavorful! That lafa bread was freshly made and just perfect. The service was great and the cooks are amazing!!! This is by far this is the best Mediterranean food in LA. What an amazing dinner! Thanks guys!
google avatar

Julie N.

Yelp
I'm a new customer here and the food is fantastic. A couple of things that bothers me about this place is I have to ask for the garlic sauce and salad dressing. This happens when the owner is not there. First visit, the owner hooked me up with all the condiments and he knew I was a new customer. On my second visit to the restaurant for take-out, I assumed salad dressing and the garlic sauce was in the bag. Got home and it wasn't there. I figured it was a honest mistake. On the third visit for take-out, I realized the worker doesn't include the dressing nor the garlic sauce unless you ask. The second thing that bothers me is the same worker who hands out the sauces helps make the large sandwich wrap. He flips the wrap to heat it up, but he doesn't wash his hands prior to touching the wrap.
google avatar

Shari W.

Yelp
They're #1 for a reason! Eat in or take out. Not much ambiance inside, but better to eat the food when it is fresh and delicious Falafel are green, so they have excellent flavor. Hummus is the real deal. Cabbage salad is excellent - green and red - I like red the best. Pitas are a little tough, but they help hold the falafel together without falling apart in your lap. Look at their catering menu. It's a great deal. They have a parking lot to make things very easy.

Alessandro D.

Yelp
The food, the service, and the portions are outstanding. Give them a shot, you will be pleasantly surprised. We noticed that they remodeled the interior, with new tables and chairs, it looks more modern now. They deserve full score for how much is clean the working/prep area!!!
google avatar

Darylynn D.

Yelp
I was craving some gyro and I had the gyro in pita bread. I enjoyed it so much that I had it again a few days later. I had the gyro lafa. I enjoyed both of these so much. I don't know if I had cravings, but this place is so good. They have options for plates and bowls (both have rice), but I think the sandwiches are my thing. I have to try their other meats in sandwich form. The falafels here are so good and a must each visit.
google avatar

Yelp
We stopped by for dinner after a day at universal studios Hollywood. This place serves fantastic middle eastern food, definitely one of the best we'd had. The service is polite and friendly and ambiance is bright and neat . It's only 4 mins away from universal and a nice way to end the day.
google avatar

Michi O.

Yelp
I do not suggest anyone to do this, but we ordered 28 plates/bowls at 11am and they had it all ready at 12:30 pm for us. Friendly staff, has parking, takes cash & credit card. What more to say! Thank you Marat, we will be back!
google avatar

A L.

Yelp
This is a great place to grab a bite if you're in the area and wanting a casual meal. The shuttle lot for Hollywood Bowl is just down the road so this would be an ideal place to pick up some food if you're headed to the bowl. Or if you've spent the day at Universal Studios and don't want to shell out $$$ for the restaurants at City Walk, then head here. Restaurant is located in a small strip mall. On a weekday at 6.30pm, there were no issues getting a parking spot in the lot. We shared the combo grill plate which had 4 types of meat, 2 chicken and 2 beef. They were all tasty and well cooked, not dry like some places. I swapped the hummus out for baba ganoush. I always get baba ganoush if it's available, it's not something you can buy at the store like hummus. And it was delish here! The guy at the counter was friendly and helpful. We threw in a falafel to try and that was yummy too. It did take a little longer than expected for our food to come out but I noticed they had quite a few take out orders to prep too. Will definitely come back if I'm in the area!
google avatar

Alicia A.

Yelp
We have ordered twice via grubhub and this food is fantastic! I have dined at several mediterranean restaurants throughout the years and the cuisine here is exceptional! The best baba ganoush! The cabbage salad, falafel, toum, rice and other sauces.....perfection! Thank you for such yummy food! Definitely my new go to!

Scott G.

Yelp
It just happened again - a reason I will for sure not come back to Joes Falafal - tonight will remind me - the two female customers with to-go orders just received a sample of a falafel and did not care to offer me one - that turns me off I've been coming here for years and have seen this happen more than once - and if you're going to offer a sample and not provide to all - the people left out will feel that way and you'll have a stronger chance of losing customers - you've lost one in me

William M.

Yelp
Fresh as u can tasted it the Best shawarma in LA fresh made bread. Cleaner then before after the new owner shift and remodel staff always happy to take orders

Melanie H.

Yelp
Love this place. Delicious and never disappoints! The perfectly cooked juicy beef laffa is my favorite w a side of falafels.
google avatar

Kimmy C.

Yelp
4.5 round up. Definitely the best falafel I have had in a long while. Crispy, well textured and perfect crunchy to pillowy soft inside ratio. Service was great and the gentlemen working here were super sweet. It was like coming to your uncle who would sit you down with a good wholesome dish to warm you from the inside out. It was a great respite after a long day at Universal studios. Close by and easy to find. Little parking lot but it did the job. Lemon chicken plate. Generous portions of chicken chunks on rice. Side salad and humus. Beef kabob bowl was hearty and full of great things like beans and rice and salad and well cooked and seasoned steak. The lamb wrap was also super yummy Portions were generous and prices were fair. Definitely a great find for mediterranean food! Need more falafel. My mouth is craving more!! So yummy!!
google avatar

Paul G.

Yelp
Great staff and prices. Personally my favorite Falafel. I always feel welcome there. Music is always at a comfort volume.

Robert M.

Yelp
wow...what a treat this place is! The service is incredible! William and the gang were so personable and attentive!. The food was outstanding. I had the schwarma bowl with fava beans and my friend had the falafel wrap. Everything tasted fresh and the dining area was clean and inviting. Parking was incredibly easy on a Saturday afternoon. I can't recommend this place enough!

Ellada A.

Yelp
The food tastes . Their chicken lemon plate is soooo good. The customer service is exceptional, I felt welcomed when I entered the place. Everybody is just so nice. Makes me wanna come back here! :)

Yelp
Joe's is one of my go-to spots for Mediterranean cuisine and I usually get the vegetarian combo plate and combo grill to share. Their portions are generous so we always have leftovers for a subsequent meal. I'd recommend opting for the lafa bread - it's made fresh and a different experience than the default pita bread with the order. The sauces are extra but good enough to pay the additional charge, especially the garlic sauce. They have a small parking lot where you can park for free. There's sit-in dining available but I've noticed most people get takeout. You may even get a complimentary falafel during your wait! Joe and his staff are always friendly and efficient with the orders as well. Highly recommend!

Stephanie R.

Yelp
My first time at Joe's falafel, it was an amazing experience the workers are very nice & attentive. The food..don't get me started on the food it was thee best mediterranean food i've ever had. They def make the food very fresh because once we received it, everything tasted so fresh & well seasoned the baklava here is hands down the best baklava i've ever had i've never had falafel and for my first time having it, it was delicious the vibe in the restaurant was great. it was clean and well kept. i noticed as soon as someone left, they were attentive & cleaned the table chicken kabob plate 10/10 falafel 9.5/10 baklava 11/10 overall experience 10/10 thank you so much Joe's falafel, i don't regret coming out here and sitting in traffic (i'm from pomona) i'll def be making the drive for that baklava again it's def worth it.

Yelp
Good quality Good service. I dont have 85 words yuor killing me Cuz I am a man of few words
google avatar

Yelp
Terrible quality of chicken meat, our whole family got food poisoning. Everything is somehow tasteless and half-raw.
google avatar

Rania L.

Yelp
Food was absolutely delicious "my son said" Tabouli tastes like grandma's so you know it's really good. Let's not forget about the fresh bread that was made to order. Service was excellent, staff very friendly. It's a very casual place. You order at the counter and they'll bring it to you. Highly recommend and will definitely be back.
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
We picked up some takeout on our way to a concert at the Hollywood Bowl. Awesome find. The manager and staff were very friendly over the phone and when we picked up the food. Both the chicken kabob platter and vegetarian platter hit the spot. Great value for the price. If I'm in the area I'm definitely coming back.
google avatar

Amir S.

Yelp
Family run business that provides high quality fresh food. The falafel sandwich comes with two types of bread, make sure to go for the fresh bread instead of the pita Definitely recommend it!
google avatar

Dayana A.

Yelp
Definitely recommend this restaurant. All flavors are different and good I would recommend falafel wrap/sandwich Thank you William for your great customer service and humble attitude. We couldn't wait as you can see, we destroyed them plates. All the way from SD!

Alejandra C.

Yelp
Let me start of with saying the shawarma plate is the bomb! I've been coming to this place for years now. I work nearby. It's under new management. Joe sold his restaurant & food is still delicious! They remodeled the place to look more modern I wasn't feeling it too much but it was prolly because I was so used to the way it used to look. Food is great so that's all that matters! =p
google avatar

Yelp
Best Falafel place in LA, shawarma the best as well. Laffa bread amazing, they make it right in front of you. It was super delicious and the location is perfect, parking is also available.

Yelp
Really great good and friendly service. I had the vegetarian combo and it was amazing. The falafel were great and the green cabbage salad side was one of the best things I've tasted. The gyros my kids had were also great. Highly recommended!
