The 20 Best Lunch Spots In Santa Monica

"Some days, when lunchtime rolls around, the last thing you want is another g*d damn salad - so instead, head to Joe’s Pizza. Located in a red-brick building on Broadway, this place looks ripped straight from the streets of Manhattan, serving giant pies prepared with house-made dough. Toppings include Italian sausage, fresh Buffalo mozzarella, and whipped ricotta, but they’re famous for their classic slices like traditional cheese and pepperoni. Best slice in Santa Monica. Great thin crust and crunch. Good free two hr parking minutes away.

Google
Best pepperoni pie ever. Glass bottle soft drinks! The location is fabulous. Extremely friendly staff. Thank you Joe's Pizza near Santa Monica Pier !!!

Found this spot on a late night and wish I grabbed more than two slices. Wow! Nothing short of amazing. They’re not open for breakfast unfortunately. Would/will definitely be back for more NY style pizza.

Google
Joe’s Pizza in Santa Monica serves amazing pizza with that perfect New York-style thin crust and flavorful toppings. The quality and taste were top-notch, and it’s easily one of the best pizzas I’ve had in the area. The only downside is the minimal seating, which can be a challenge during busy times. It’s definitely more of a grab-and-go spot, but the incredible pizza makes it worth it.

Google
Late night pizza find, came in with very low expectations. But wow! The slice was delicious, a sweeter sauce made it a unique New York style slice. Friendly staff. Coke product available on fountain and bottles.

Google
This is not the same as joes pizza on Bleeker Street in NYC. But it’s good NY style pizza meaning it’s thin crust. A regular cheese slice is $4.25 plus tax (with tax it’s $4.69) Their mozzarella cheese is very good. The only thing is CA pizza dough will never be the same as NY/NJ/PA bc the water is different from what all the pizza chefs tell me. CA pizza dough doesn’t have the same chewy fluffy texture. But it was still a yummy NY style slice that you can eat as a snack or meal when you are hungry for that quick bite. Indoor and outdoor seating. Extra sauce that I always like on the side is $1 extra so we didn’t do that.

Google
Pizza was exceptionally delicious 😋 price was right with garlic knots! My tummy is happy now.

Google
Simply the best pizza and best people in LA. Been eating here forever, but it was during the pandemic in lockdown where we started doing “Grandma Friday’s” at our house and these guys took care of us for like 3 years. Get the Grandma. A++++

Yelp
I mean, I was not expecting top-notch pizza. Me and my kids were just strolling down Santa Monica and wanted to grab a bite of something before hitting the beach. We found this pizza spot and decided to give it a shot. Right off the bat I knew this would be average at best, but I was surprised to find that this pizza was actually pretty decent. The slices are big, equivalent to 2 large Pizza Hut slices, and they tasted really good. My kids ate the entire slice, and I wanted another when I was done. Now, am I saying it's the best pizza around? No, of course not, but it was really good, and we enjoyed it. I don't understand the negative reviews because we really enjoyed it. Sure, the place is run-down and small, but it was good and worth many more trips in the future! My advice is to give it a shot for yourself.

Yelp
Far from the best Sicilian pizza I've ever had but get's the job done if you are in the area. Great spot if you need something to bring to the beach.
google avatar

Dallas A.

Yelp
If you're near the pier or Promenade and looking for a solid slice that won't break the bank, Joe's is a good option. It's not the best pizza I've had (though I'm a bit biased after living in NYC and Chicago), but it does the job and is prepared quickly. There are a few tables inside and two or three outside, but it's honestly a great to-go place -- go take it and eat it overlooking the ocean!
google avatar

Josh M.

Yelp
Nice and small little pizza joint, packed with flavor and an atmosphere all its own. Walk in order by the slice or the whole pie. Nice NY style thin crust extra greasy so grab some napkins. Solid dinner choice after walking the beach and streets all afternoon. Guys behind the counter are friendly and welcoming to newcomers. Menu is behind the counter back wall!
google avatar

Carolina C.

Yelp
It offers exactly as advertised; Thin crust & crispy pizza. It was delicious and I have no complaints. The place was small, but that's not even a bad thing. It adds to the overall beach experience, and there are plenty of places to sit outside and have a good time. Service was efficient and employees were very kind. Would recommend if you're looking for a quick bite!
google avatar

Candy C.

Yelp
The Thin and perfectly toasted crust is what makes this the reason why we came back over and over again during our stay in Santa Monica. My boys liked the cheese, I liked the mama slice. Not many variety of toppings, but the ones they do have, albeit simple, are thumbs up!!!! They do get busy, though service flows just perfectly. Not many seats, but better to go anyway and eat on the beach!
google avatar

Danielle G.

Yelp
honestly the pizza here is whatevers haha. my partner said it was some of the best pizza they've ever had, but idk man. it did hit the spot after biking around the beach though, but a little too oily and stale for my taste!
google avatar

Evan P.

Yelp
A really solid slice of pizza. I was pretty satisfied and would definitely come back for another pie.

Yelp
Cheesy pizza comes steaming hot! It could be hard to find a good pizza in a tourist attraction place. No need to look further because Joe's pizza is the one. This was my first time trying this spot because a person from New York recommend this place. It's small shop a block away from the beach, but the pizzas are excellent! We got a slice of the white pizza and build our own pie. Highly recommend, especially the white pizza, cheesy, packed with what a pizza should have. Every employees there did a great job.
google avatar

Amanda D.

Yelp
Suprised I haven't left a review for this place yet!! Suchhhh good thing crust pizza! The white Pizza and the cheese are my favorite! Piping hot and made fresh in house daily. They have slices and while pizzas. This place is definitely popular and for the most part always packed but their fast, efficient and friendly service is indeniable. Seating right outside the restaurant and a bit of seating inside. 10/10 definitely recommend if you're in Santa Monica by the pier wanting a quick bite to eat or a pizza to order and take with you.

Angie Q.

Yelp
Amazing service! Kind workers, and very fast. Great location, right by the beach. Delicious pizza
google avatar

Joshua Cyrus A.

Yelp
A small cool hole in the wall of Santa Monica. Small selection but very delicious. Big pizza slices and the cheese is cheesing! Love the ambiance, very fitting for the season. Not enough seats, but it's more a grab and go kind of spot. Definitely a must try!

Yelp
Really like how the store is walking distance from the pier! Food: Good pizza with plenty of cheese. The garlic knots was indeed garlic-ly which was great. only thing is the pizza wasnt under heat lamps or anything so they actually heat it up again in the oven Service: Quick and precise service Ambiance: Little seating inside and outside. There's only bar tables and seats. maybe 10 people maximum

Yelp
Good place to stop if you are craving a slice of pizza in Santa Monica! This Sicilian pizza was pretty good with the sesame seeds adding a nice interesting texture. Nice outdoor area to enjoy the food. Service is nice with good customer service!

Yelp
A little spot to grab a slice or a full pie. The pizza is thin and slices are big. A nice crispy crust filled with flavors. I had the caprese and the grandma. Grandma has a hint of sweetness but not overly sweet. I loved them both. Customer service was fast and friendly. They have limited seating and no public restrooms so keep that in mind. You won't be disappointed with the pizza here. Stop by and enjoy.

Elizabeth H.

Yelp
Caprese, Grandma & Sicilian pizzas all good, delicious garlic knots & friendly guy serving. Recommend!

Katia T.

Yelp
THE BEST PIZZA I've ever had. I usually get the grandma slice or a plain cheese slice and they're super consistent and great every time. The place is super well managed and inviting. Decorations are awesome, and the staff are super helpful and positive. Check this place out!!

Yelp
I have a second stomach for NY style pizza. it doesn't matter if it's before dinner, or after dinner, or the middle of the night, if there's a good NY slice shop around, I've got room to put a slice of cheese inside me. Enter Joe's in Santa Monica...even though we'd already had a full Italian dinner nearby, here it was beckoning for us to come in...we did. I got a cheese slice. I ate it. I was satisfied. Where we live in L.A. there is a dearth of legitimate NY city slices...there's a lot of places that say "NY Style" but I mean just being round and kind of thin doesn't quite cut it. The crust has to be SUPER thin and crispy...with a good ratio of sauce and not over-cheesed. That's what you get at Joe's. It's a perfect slice of NYC style pizza...just like from back in the old country (Brooklyn.) Thanks for being their Joe's.

Yelp
The other day, while on vacation, we walked past Joe's Pizza spot on Broadway near Ocean Avenue. The sight of people sitting on the patio with pizzas topped with glistening grease caught our attention. We couldn't stop thinking about that pizza all afternoon, and by evening, we gave in and walked downstairs to order some for ourselves. We opted for takeout and patiently waited about 20 minutes for our pizza to be freshly cooked and prepared. Bringing it upstairs, we eagerly tore into it. It was so good that only a few slices remained for the next day, and surprisingly, they were just as delicious straight out of the box--whether cold or warmed up in the microwave, they maintained their flavor and texture without becoming hard or chewy. I highly recommend Joe's Pizza for its affordability and great taste--it's a must-try!
google avatar

Jamie C.

Yelp
Pretty lackluster. The pizza may be New York Style, but it is disappointing to say the least. Could be compared to a piece of cardboard with tiny lame shriveled pepperonis on top. I don't think its even worth the $5 for this as well when you could get an entire pizza elsewhere. Definitely a skip.
google avatar

Benjamin R.

Yelp
Not bad!! Pretty standard quality pizza, nothing too outstanding about it! Tried the pepperoni and cheese, and each were about $4 each! The location is great though, right next to the pier
google avatar

Yelp
Two years later, Joe's Pizza remains our top choice for pizza in Santa Monica and Los Angeles. The primary drawback is the parking situation; you'll need to search for parking in one of the nearby structures or on the street, and the area can get quite congested. There's a significant amount of foot traffic in the area, and it's worth noting that homeless individuals are around. As for the service, Anthony was exceptionally friendly, pleasant, and helpful. During a recent visit with my child, he displayed great patience. Their cheese pizza is my favorite, although I tried their white pizza and found it less to my liking. My child is a big fan of their cheese pizza as well. Visiting after school can be enjoyable, but once again, the parking situation can be challenging, especially when you have young children in tow.
google avatar

Nick P.

Yelp
Not bad for a quick and affordable bite. We stopped by Joe's on our way to the pier. Picked up 2 slices of their pepperoni pizza for $4.50 each. They heated up the slices for us too. Pizza was slightly burnt on the crust but good overall. The sauce was robust and the pepperoni cups were few but held much flavor.

Yelp
As others have said, this is not affiliated with the world famous Joe's Pizza in NYC. (Although it seems semi-implied) I ignored my own advice of skipping any place which has 'award winning' or 'world famous' attached to the sign. If you have to announce yourself as 'world famous' in your marketing ... you are probably not. And as any visitor to Cape Cod knows, you can't find ANY restaurant who hasn't won some sort of award for its chowder. Is this New York style pizza? Hmmm ... it looks kind of like New York style pizza in that its larger than most, very flat and more red sauce can be seen than cheese. That's about where it ends. This tastes NOTHING like NYC pizza, unless there was a type of pizza which was made of cardboard and ketchup and used for a movie prop in NYC. First of all, it is 100% apparent that cheap ingredients are used. These cheese has no taste ... the sauce is no different from frozen Elios pizza sauce ... and the crust is bland and not chewy the way properly made dough is. Every pizza is overcooked and the crust cannot be folded, like NY style, as it is cracker-like and crunchy. The toppings are disgusting ... the meatball slices are square and taste like wet dog smells. The pepperoni is okay ... it has some spice to it ... and it cups when cooked. However, for a giant pizza, they put a skimpy amount on for the price. Let's talk about the price ... $30+ per pizza. I realize that this is located in likely the most touristy hot zone in CA next to Fisherman's Wharf. It follows the playbook of almost every touristy restaurant ... below average to mediocre food at sky high prices. But these pies are truly a rip off. Add a delivery fee and two pies are over $70. What a huge disappointment ... I should have known better than ordering from here. If you are very drunk, a slice or two will be awesome. If you are sober and looking for a quick dinner in your hotel room, there are better options. This is no different than the below average 'buck a slice' pizza places in Times Square, with the exception the slices are 4 - 6 times more expensive.
google avatar

Chris D.

Yelp
This was my first time back at Joe's in a while. I have to say it tasted like the last time I had it several years ago. Not as good as Joe's on Carmine St in NYC but its a very good slice. If you're in Santa Monica I recommend you stop by and grab a slice or a Pie.

Yelp
**EDITED** Sooo, we brought the pizza back the next day for a refund. The manager not only processed the refund for us, but he offered to give us a free pizza that night for pickup at 8 PM. I'm really glad we got to experience the pizza because it was good! We ate it so fast I forgot to take a photo. It was a definite fail the first night, but the manager really did everything by the book to make it right. Thanks, Marco! ***************************************************************** Do you like burnt pizza? Then this is your place! We ordered a whole pepperoni pizza online for pickup. The order was ready right on time. The flavor of the pizza was spot-on. The pizza was BLACK on the bottom. The ovens are definitely dirty from burnt soot. We picked it up at 9:30 PM, so by the time we brought it back to our hotel and dug in, they were already closed. There's $30 down the drain.

Yelp
For my last beach day in Santa Monica last week, I went to Joe's Pizza on Broadway. I'd stumbled upon it last year and just loved their large, New York-style slices, so I knew I wanted to end my SM culinary experiences here. Joe's did not disappoint - well, there was one little thing, but I'll get there in a sec. I hadn't eaten all day and, after a full day in the sun, I was hungry. I ordered two pepperoni slices and a fountain Coke. I was told the fountain drinks weren't working (what?). So, a canned coke it was. I sat at the outside bar and my slices were ready in about 5 minutes' time. When I asked if I could have a cup of ice, the same waiter started to say, "We don't have any..." but stopped himself. He grabbed a small courtesy water cup, opened the ice bin beneath the fountain and - voila: ice. I was grateful. The pizza was amazing. Only one *critique*, though not a significant one. The pepperoni Joe's uses is very, very small - about nickel-sized. I would recommend them procuring regular-sized pepperoni / larger pepperoni. As it is, they don't use much of the small pepperoni and you don't get very much meat-to-cheese ratio / pepperoni coverage. The crust and gooey cheese are perfection, though. Love Joe's!

Yelp
Had high hopes for two reasons: 1- the smell (this place smells incredible. Like the real deal) 2- the name. We made an assumption that it was going to be the same as the one in NYC. Sorta implied. Sadly it was only ok. Nothing like the real deal in NYC, at least not the famous one we went to. It did have a similar look and smell. The crust/foundation was ok. The sauce ok. But not that "omg must have" like in nyc. Oh well. Price was $4-5 a slice and while that's more than many places, it made for an affordable lunch. But I won't be going back. I thought I might need it a second time this vacation if it was the real deal.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is right in the middle of all the madness in Santa Monica by the pier. It's crazy busy and super tiny. Tourist central. The pizza was decent. Glad I tried it. The pizza knots, no so much, way too much butter but good garlic. Again glad I tried it.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm surprised they only got a 3.5 average!!!!! :O I personally had an amazing experience! Here's what I got: - Classic NY slice = 5/5 the best, wish I got 2 (or 3 lol) instead of just one - Grandma = 3.5/5 this one wasn't for me, it had too much marinara sauce (though I gotta say, the fresh buffalo mozzarella was delicious!). I'd recommend sticking with the NY slice. - They also gave me a cup of water = 5/5 haha As for the service, it was easily a 5/5: they were super quick and took care of all the guests efficiently, I was impressed that the line was moving fast. I felt bad though because one of the staff members in the back was asking me if I wanted this for here or to-go but I didn't hear and thought he was talking to someone else. So he had to yell a little to get my attention since I was just looking at my phone. But he wasn't rude at all or upset, he was patient if anything. So when you go there, make sure you pay attention :) I sat outside since I love people watching but a homeless person approached, asking for food or money. He was all nice and polite about it but you just never know what they're gonna say or do or how they're going to act. He then left and came back, and started smoking a cigarette not too far -_- so I guess just keep that in mind if you ever consider eating outside.

Yelp
Joe's Pizza is a small pizza shop right next to the beach in Santa Monica. They have locations throughout Los Angeles but are more known in New York. It was pretty busy and the staff felt rushed. The tables and shop itself were a bit messy too since it was busy. There is seating in and outside of the store. Overall, it's a good place to stop by for pizza if you're in the mood but takeout is probably a better option. Pizza We ordered a slice of cheese, pepperoni, the white pizza, and the grandma pizza. The slices had thin crusts and a sweet sauce. They also warm it up right before giving it to you so it's nice and hot. We enjoyed all the slices but they were around $5 each which is pretty high for a single slice since they are pretty thin. Overall, we loved the taste but would recommend sharing a whole pizza with friends. Overall The ambiance: 3.5/5 The food: 4/5 The price: $$
google avatar

Dan L.

Yelp
I got Grandma slice which was pretty tasty - they use tasty tomato sauce and the dough is crispy. It holds a slice very well without bending. Thats about all positive. The pizza slice and a can of soda cost me $9. The guy who takes orders work at the cash register and at the same time put pepperoni with his bare hands on top of the cooked pizza. There almost no space to sit or stand inside. Outside the trash was full.
google avatar

Mia L.

Yelp
This is one of my Santa Monica staples. I always get the grandma pizza-- it is so good. It's the perfect snack for after the beach.
google avatar

Anna Marie P.

Yelp
Always great closest I've found in Santa Monica area to real New York style pizza, the crust is very authentic. The sauce is tasty and not too sweet or thick, the cheeses are great quality. The topics are varied and they will split them on different halves of the pizza if requested.
google avatar

Tawny V.

Yelp
So glad we stopped by, the single slices are a great price and the customer service superb. The guys who helped me out were very friendly. I was still full from an earlier lunch but I knew I had to give them a try. The N.Y style pizza's were deeeelish! Yes, the pies are thin but asked for extra crispy and they delivered, thank you! The Grandma pizza- Fresh buffalo mozzarella, marinara, parmesan and fresh basil, would be my next order for sure! If you need a quick lunch, this is the spot! Dog friendly, outdoor seating
google avatar

Jason S.

Yelp
It should be 2.5. Mostly low for plain slice quality. Theres not much cheese and the sauce is flavorless. Decent crunch on crust. No water or bathroom. It's a very small place with 4 patio seats in the middle of a lot of tourists. You can find a better places without missing out on a NY slice

View R.

Yelp
high price, good quality, but i wouldnt visit again with that price. ingredients seemed nice though
google avatar

Panther S.

Yelp
I came across this place by looking up the best pizza in Santa Monica and to my surprise it was very very good and I highly recommend it especially if you like New York pizza and you can order by the slice I would recommend the Sicilian pizza and a white pizza don't hesitate to check out Joe's pizza in Santa Monica
google avatar

Alice H.

Yelp
Joe's Pizza is my favorite pizza in Santa Monica. Their pizzas are so yummy and the crust is perfect. They give you giant slices too. Not too greasy and the perfect amount of sauce. Their garlic knots are also pretty tasty.
google avatar

Dave C.

Yelp
Joes pizza was the worst I have ever eaten. Please don't waste your time going . You will be very disappointed. .
google avatar

Scotty B.

Yelp
Joe's serves a great NY slice, a small, perfect, hole-in-the wall pizza joint. Joe's is a solid go-to for a quick slice or a pie. You can count on Joe's for its consistency no matter who is making the pie it always tastes like Joe's. It's located a block past the Santa Monica promenade on Broadway & 2nd but you gotta walk because there is no street parking. Bellissimo !
google avatar

David A.

Yelp
Joes pizza was good. I usually go to the one in downtown LA, I found this one and it was better then expected. The service was amazing. Everyone in the back were very attentive and greeted me as I walked in. Service was fast and on point! The atmosphere was a Santa Monica vibe. On the go and fast pace. Recommend to get the pizza well done (if you like a crunch to the crust)

Rosa B.

Yelp
Always delicious pizza! Such an awesome to experience true NY pizza. Thanks Joes for always delivering impeccable quality!

Derian A.

Yelp
Good pizza nothing too crazy but overall good customer service and food it was very full tho

Dana B.

Yelp
Amazing service!! They were so kind and the food was amazing. Also so convenient that they're open late -- perfect for a late night snack. I even left my camera there one night and they held onto it for me! 10/10 recommend!
google avatar

Vivian A.

Yelp
First off, this is not the same Joe's as the one in New York! We even asked the cashier and he confirmed they're different owners. The pizza is New York thin crust though. You can either order by the slice or the whole pizza. They'll warm up the pizza for you as you order. By thin, it's extremely thin! It's not even close to Joe's NY... Joe's in NY is thin but not that thin. This pizza was sooo thin, oily, and burnt. It's similar to the $1 pizza spots you'll find on the corners of the street in New York.
google avatar

Lander M.

Yelp
Bland sauce, skimpy toppings, no refills? Filled my cup to the top with ice and 1/8 worth of soda. Come on now. it cost $.30 for a fountain drink.
google avatar

David R.

Yelp
Nice Slice Shop you can order a whole pie too Super thin and crispy sauce tasted like just pure tomato I really enjoyed it my Wife said it was a 9.0 I was thinking about 7.9
