I had lunch with two dining partners at Joey recently. It was a busy shopping day, so we were pleased to be seated rather quickly when we arrived at noon. We were seated by the bar, and were subjected to two large displays tuned into two different shows/games/movies. Thankfully, the sound was off. The music in the restaurant, however, was on. It wasn't so deafening that we couldn't hold a conversation, but it was distracting.
The drinks menu was extensive, but we came for a quick lunch, so we didn't order from it. The menu itself was diverse, with plenty of traditional American fare and some Americanized versions of several popular cuisines (Mexican-ish, Asian-ish). The quality of the ingredients seemed to be pretty good, and there were options for people with different food allergies. All of that was good.
The prices though, WOW. You could easily spend $30 for a run-of-the-mill main dish. For lunch. The three of us ordered less expensive options and our bill still came to $100. The food itself was fine, but nothing special. I would have rated this restaurant higher if the bill were half of what it came to, but it absolutely was not worth the prices they charge.
Service was relatively rapid. Our waitress, a poor woman who had clearly had the corporate indoctrination lessons, managed a forced and unnatural smile every second of our interactions, quite a feat to do while talking. She mentioned how she would also be staying to work the New Year's Eve crowd, and might be there until 2:00. I felt sorry for her. Remember, this was around noon when we came in for lunch, so even if she got a break between shifts, that would be a very long day. Maybe that is why her smile was so forced.
Restaurant was clean and had big windows. The toilets were clean, with individual rooms complete with toilet and sink, which I appreciate.
