It's always nice when you can visit a local jaunt in Seattle and immediately cross it off the list for repeat visits. That was my experience tonight when I visited the should-be-named "Johnny Less's."
First red flag? I was checking for a place to eat earlier tonight and found Johnny Less's. Hmm. Maybe I'll take a chance. I check the online menu on their site - Classic Cheese Chicago Pizza, $23. Da Ditka Classic, $26. Okay, Looks okay.
I walk in, sit down, and look at the menu and realize the "in house" prices are at least $3.00 more. Classic Cheese Chicago Pizza, $26. Da Ditka, $29. Amazing,
I opt for the small NY Cheese with italian sausage (+ $3.50) and a Diet Coke. Pizza comes, looks good - but where's the sausage? Most of it was gathered near the crust with nothing in the body. Hmm. Weird. I taste it, and the sausage was acutally pretty good (what was there) and the pizza overall wasn't horrible, but hardly worth making a trip for. No big deal. I've had worse. I finish my Diet Coke and my server brings me another.
I go to pay, and I see I was charged for two Diet Cokes. I figured it must be a mistake since I know of NO restaurant outside of Calcutta that charges for a refill on a Diet Coke; here, I'm being charged $6.00 for the two. I ask my server (who, let's be clear here, was awesome and attentive the entire time). He said, "Yeah, my manager told us we have to charge for soda refills." Wow - what a great manager! Reels you in with cheaper prices online then nickel and dimes you when you show up. Thankfully, I didn't ask for an extra napkin since I'm sure that would have been another $2.00.
Now, as I stated, the server was AWESOME and said, "I can take it off for you if you'd like." Nope. No way. This server was awesome and there is no way I'm going to get him in trouble just because his manager trained at the Third Reich School of Restaurant Management. I told him to leave it on and I'll pay for it. Ridiculous. Who charges for a soda refill? (Johnny Less's is the answer to that riddle).
Are the other pizzas good? I have no idea, but the Ditka is now $29 and once he changes it online, that means it will be $32.00 overnight. No, thank you. Fire up my gas oven at home - I'm making my own.
