I would not recommend Johnson and Wales. In my opinion the tuition costs were not justified in the training I received. My instructors were knowable in their fields, but did not convey that knowledge well in a classroom setting. In fact, one instructor informed our class that the burn out rate in the culinary field is very high and the rewards very low. He mentioned that he was much happier being an instructor rather than an active chef … not something I liked to hear when trying to enter the culinary profession. I feel I would have saved money and received more training by just working in a restaurant getting paid to learn my craft. I also found a lack of aid and resources finding a job. I now realize that having an expensive framed degree hanging on my wall was not worth what I paid. Live and learn I guess.

I Would not recommend! This school is money high priced and money crazy and not really ethnical friendly school. They don’t really treat everyone that equal unless your in culinary!! Then Marybeth Dempsey be holding students funds and sometimes writing wrong invoices to students so they can be charged extra.

I think it’s crazy that local guides can give reviews when they know nothing about the experience of actually going to the college. Johnson & Wales was the worst choice I ever could have made in a college, which is really sad knowing I chose this school in honor of my grandfather who went here, and passed away right before getting to see me go to college. Professors are the only good part of the school. All the other workers who work in the offices, the actual people who run the school as a whole - a literal joke. The entire school is a joke. Student loans? Not worth it. This is a school that does not care about its students like it portrays that it does. Do not waste your time, you can get a better education and a better college experience probably at any. other. school.

Johnson and Wales University is awesome. My time there was great and insightful. I was very involved. I was a RA and an Orientation Leader. Being able to interact with the students on the level was amazing. My professors were very helpful in my journey as well. I loved the school so much that I just had to apply to the Graduate Program. The Graduate Program has also been wonderful. I would recommend this school to everyone. I have already been doing so.

I decided to go back to school, after 20 years, for my second Master’s degree. I needed a school that provided flexibility for full time working professionals. In my job I travel 50% of the time, so on-line was my only option however I needed to attend a school that was “bricks and mortar”. Johnson and Wales University gave me this and more. I was so nervous because I was not familiar or ever experienced an on-line class. I'm a person who gets energy from people and from face to face interactions. I must say, I was surprised that I felt connected with my classmates and with my professors. I’m being supported and can really get to know the people in my class. I have six more classes to complete to receive my MBA and I am motivated to complete my degree by December of 2016. I feel I will be able to accomplish this because of the outstanding and supportive professors that help us achieve our goals. I highly recommend Johnson and Wales University, in particular the on-line campus.

As far as general education classes go, they are good. However, the professors in the computer science department are fantastic! They are all industry professionals who know what they are doing. They expect you to work, but are understanding and attentive when you need help. I truly feel that my hard work and dedication are rewarded here instead of being brushed aside. I can't speak for the Harborside classes as I have never taken them. But, the Downcity campus is lively, and serves as a beautiful backdrop for what is a great school.

Learning alot here. Our instructors are people with MANY years of experience. It's definitely hard work, but it's oh so worth it.

Yelp
Orientation 2018 was great. Definitely one of the more organized events I have attended in the last 5 years. Campus is very nice with several great views of the Harbor. The shuttle buses are very comfortable and spacious. For $40.00, a family cant beat the value that is provided for the 2 day orientation events. Parking was free both days and families received 2 meals on the first day as well as breakfast on the second. Bookstores are equipped with both books and swag. A little pricey, but thats typical of any campus bookstore. The Harborside Bookstore was geared toward the culinary students and therefore had most of their cutlery and cooking utensils. A great addition to this tour would have been a driving tour of both the Harborside and Downcity campuses...but understand such things cost money (especially the fuel). Hope lil bro has a great time at school in the fall!

Yelp
Can only give them a star , trying to get everything going there and had nothing but trouble with their online program and especially their Dean of Students who has blamed me for everything and is his goal to try to prove me wrong and it's offensive, I have had only 2 people there actually help me and he wasn't f..king one if them, he's actually an asshole. At least this will be documented if he decides to pull my acceptance Zachery the admissions rep who never ever disclosed anything to me while h is unorofessional.

Yelp
Part of the downtown Johnson and Wales campus, this building houses the auditorium and downtown fitness center. I always go for the fitness center which is not the most glamours gym ever, but it does have everything you need for a great workout! And for those who live in the area and are alumni of JWU, you can get yourself an alumni id and have full access to the gym for free which is awesome!

Yelp
I had such a great time at the school, its so beautiful and everyone is really friendly. I can't wait to attend for fall classes and really start working on being a true JWU Wildcat. The campus is perfectly groomed and I have to say for someone that doesn't like grass (like me, true city girl) they did have some comfy grassy areas to just hang out. I really liked how the buildings were set up on the habourside, with all the restaurants and starbucks (BIG PLUS) in the same area. All the culinary classes in one building and other classes in another. They were very organized when it came to the flow of the orientation schedule and definitely lessened that feeling of anxiety all beginning students have. I would recommend this school to anyone that needs a more well rounded college experience and a staff that is always willing to help you succeed.

Yelp
Johnson and Wales is a great place to shape your young adult mind. Especially Snowden dormitory. This place has spacious rooms with your own toilet seat and thermostat! Even the windows open all the way from the top floor and the rooms are smoke resistant!! (Trust me, I know) Be sure to claim your furniture from the lounge first so others in your hall know your room will look the freshest. Don't get scared if you hear crackheads arguing or gunshots late at night, that's perfectly normal. Pro tip: the doors leading to the roof are never locked, go let yourself be free. Now, don't even get me started on Snowden dining hall. One meal swipe gets you unlimited cereal bar, salad bar, pizza, and whatever meal they cook up that day. Brunch is the best time to go, be sure to stock up on the home fries and don't forget to take some napkins and silverware to stock your room with. The location of Snowden is also pretty prime, with academic buildings and amazing restaurants both a block away it's hard to choose between getting a taco or going to class.

Yelp
My daughter attends this university. I did not want her to go to here. It has more of the feeling of a vo-tech type school. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, if that is the arena you want to be in. The student body is not very collegiate. They have a lot of discipline problems at the school which they encourage. It seems the kids rule the campus and the administration just does what they can do to placate everybody. Shockingly in the culinary study area of the University ( Harborside campus) they have abysmal dining selections. There is one café that all they offer is package salads, Pizza and pasta, and a Starbucks... neither offers a proper breakfast. You have to take a bus to other areas in down city (which is another campus about 7-8 minutes away)to get a proper breakfast. This school also leans toward more of a suitcase school meaning many students go home on the weekend. Other culinary institutions that we visited, namely the CIA, has an amazing food court offering all selections of food including farm to table. That School also has 3-4 restaurants Open to the public and where the students work when they're not in class. She is considering transferring. I wish my daughter would've attended the CIA where she was accepted or any Of the other Universities she had been accepted to as well. Just think twice before you commit to the school. On a side note, I cannot understand the orientation of the Harborside campus. They are situated on water but yet in planning the campus they did not orientate any of the campus buildings other than maintenance building and athletic building on the water... how does that make any sense. I never even knew where the water was when we visited because you couldn't see it from when you were standing in the middle of campus. Anyway there are other options if you're interested in obtaining of culinary degree... Think twice!!
