DC's New Restaurant Openings - Washington DC - The Infatuation

"Joia Burger in Glover Park is the second location of a neighborhood burger spot that opened last year in Mt. Pleasant. The restaurant is owned by Patrice Cleary, who also owns the Filipino spot Purple Patch. The new Joia Burger is serving its signature wagyu beef smashburgers and ube soft serve, as well as coffee from Sun & Stars coffee roasters." - omnia saed

The Best Restaurants In Columbia Heights & Mt. Pleasant - Washington DC - The Infatuation

"Joia Burger in Mt. Pleasant is all about more is more. Prepare to squeeze into this tiny shop, where customers crowd around stand-up tables and stools, eagerly awaiting what are touted as “wagyu burgers.” Those are essentially smashburgers, topped with chopped tomatoes, lettuce, onions, pickles, and a house sauce that’s perfect for loaded fries. They’re indulgent, and just as messy as the ube soft serve that’ll turn your teeth, lips, and mouth blue-purple (totally fine and worth it)." - omnia saed, allison robicelli

Simple, fast, and totally worth the visit This spot had been on my to-do list for a while, and I’m glad I finally went. The menu is simple — basically just two types of burgers plus a vegan option — but they really deliver. The burger is not only delicious, it’s also unique, which makes it absolutely worth the trip. The place is very clean, the service is fast, and they offer a good selection of drinks. If you’re in the area (or even if you’re not), this is a burger worth seeking out.

After seeing The Washingtonian food critic post about this place having a good burger, I decided to give it a try. It is a smash patty style burger using Waygu beef. It's your choice of 1, 2, or 3 patties with either the standard Joia topping (their spin on the McDonald's special sauce) or a papaya salad topping. They are slightly heavy-handed with the sauce topping, but it's a good, fast casual burger. The fries are skin on and seasoned without being salty.

I had an amazing experience here! The food was delicious—especially the burgers—and the atmosphere was clean, welcoming, and really well put together. I even got the chance to speak with the owner, who was incredibly kind and passionate about the place. The only downside is the price. I paid around $40 for two burgers and a fry, which felt a bit steep for a quick bite. I understand they use Wagyu beef (and it definitely tastes great!), but just a heads up for anyone planning to stop in on a budget.

#1 fast casual burger in DC. Staff is super friendly and helpful, really cool selection of drinks (alcohol & non-alcohol). I got the single patty w/ Joia topping but will definitely be going for the double patty next time. Didn’t try the fries so can’t comment on those but this burger truly is outstanding. More of a quick dine place (counter service/limited seating) wouldn’t really recommend picking if you want to sit and linger and talk. But great for a quick 20 minute meal over an insane burger you will crave forever. There is a veggie burger but haven’t tried it yet.

The wagyu burgers at the new Joia location are amazing! We tried both Papaya and Joia toppings for the burgers, we tried the fries and ube soft serves with sprinkles and toasted coconut! Everything tasted great, came out very fast and the interior is super cute. The ube soft serve is a must! 💜

Google
Wagyu single patty burger is okay($9), it comes with pickles and special sauce (coleslaw like and a bit sour) I would rate it 7/10 and patty is too thin for me. Fries I believe is $5 and it’s okay, plain salted. We loved the Ube soft serve!!! It’s 10/10!! Comes with sprinkles and toasted coconut it’s flavorful. Also purchased a $1 truffle sauce, it’s also good. They have an art corner with supplies for children. They even hang the art works on the wall. :) PARKING - paid street parking on both sides. They’re adding coffee soon. Will check it out soon! :)

Patrice hits another home run! I’ve been eagerly awaiting the opening of the second edition of the now-famous Joia Burger in Glover Park, and finally the day has arrived. My son and his friend each had a Liam’s lunch box and I had a double Patty smash burger. The food was amazing, exactly what I was expecting, and the decor and design and great, along with the overall atmosphere. I can’t wait to come back!

Google
Sooooo yummy and fresh. The burger and fries came out perfectly hot and the Joia topping — OMG. I can’t get over the genuinely vibrant taste of the individual components (lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle) in the burger (and, optionally, fries) topping. It is the dream child of McDonald’s pickle-y ketchup and In-And-Out’s animal style. Perfect compliment to the richness of the smash burger. Truffle mayo is also absolutely worth the $1 add-on for the regular fries if you’re a truffle fan, though the fries alone were well salted and I’m eager to try them with the Joia topping as well. Pre-tip price for the single patty burger, fries, and truffle mayo add-on with tax was ~$16.50, which feels beyond fair. The portion is generous (I probably could have shared the fries) and the quality is there. The staff were all also friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Indoors, there’s a cool mix of seating styles, appropriate music volume, and a cooler with assorted beverages (including beers and mini wines). Hours include both lunch (yay!) and dinner. I can’t wait to try the coming-soon-coffee, assuming the focus on it will be as strong as it is on the burgers and fries. Such a great addition to the neighborhood and I look forward to being a repeat customer!

Yelp
Joia smashed it out of the park with their delicious smash burger!! If you've got a hankering for an In 'n Out burger, but you find yourself stuck in the East Coast - this is the place to get your fix!! Dare I say that this is even better?! I'm not a huge mayonnaise person, so I personally would opt out of getting their signature sauce (which is mayo based with veggies). They also have a green papaya salad topping, which I'll get next time I'm there. This is a Filipino and woman-owned establishment, and I love how they weave in nods to their culture with their different offerings and takes on the classic burger. My order arrived fresh, piping hot and SO juicy! The bread was also nice, soft and light - the perfect vehicle for the patty. I ordered the fries to go with it, which was a great choice. They somehow magically stayed crispy the entire hour that I was dining there (I was really nursing those fries - and didn't want them to end!) The waitstaff was also super friendly and took the time to describe each menu option. They even gave me a sample of the Ube Softserve ice cream, which was quite refreshing on a hot day! I love how the restaurant seems to have a deep connection to the neighborhood. The interior was filled with colorful art from local school children. I also saw the owner treat a neighboring shopkeeper to a burger (the dry cleaners next door who have been around for decades). It was so sweet to see!

Yelp
About a 2-2.5: Welcome to Glover Park, Joia - From the owner of Purple Patch, this burger place had just opened up their 2nd location. Joia Burgers is known for their 'American Wagyu smash burgers', which comes with American cheese, topped with the chef's special sauce that is mixed with diced lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and pickles, served on potato buns. You could opt for a single, double, or a triple patty. There is not much room for customizations. They also have a veggie bean burger option, fries, sides (such as the bacon pasta salad, Filipino fruit salad), and ube soft serve. Honestly, the burgers are extremely overpriced and isn't justifiable. Note that their 'sauce' drops the temperature of the burger, which is off putting. Staff were friendly, but could have been more efficient; there's also a handful of seating inside. Limited street parking can be found in the area. +get the chef's 'sauce/topping' on the side +overpriced +limited street parking

Yelp
From the reviews, it seems like this place just opened but we had the opportunity to try it since we were in the area. I'm glad they had a vegetarian option so I had the black bean burger with the atsara. I thought it was a lovely compliment to the burger. Aside from burgers fries & soft serve there's not much on the menu but I liked what I had! A bit pricey for a burger joint but interesting. I had the coconut soft serve which was the nondairy option which I enjoyed.

Yelp
This is located is the former Z Burger/ All About Burger location. Although the menu is small, the burgers and fries are very good. The burger has the Joia ingredients that can get messy but are a great combination. The fries were fresh, crispy and very tasty. The service was quick but it wasn't too busy. Definitely a great addition to Glover Park.

Yelp
The second location is just as awesome as the first. The flavor meld of the papaya (atsara) topping with patty and the melted cheese.... Chefs kiss!!! The Joia fries are amazing, they remind of In-N-Out animal fries except better - the Joia topping is a little more tart but the flavor is incredibly balanced. I neglected to take a pretty pic of the soft serve, but if you like ube and coconut, trust me the swirl soft serve is for you. The new location is bigger than the OG Joia. It has stools against the wall or the front for you to wait or eat. They also have seating with pretty purple benches on one side of the table, opposite a wall that has Filipino snacks and drinks for sale. As well as books and coloring items for kids. The staff, like in OG Joia or Purple Patch, are just as awesome! Glover Park location is definitely worth the trek!

Yelp
Burger is good, fries are normal. As someone who doesn't eat burgers frequently, I couldn't really taste the difference between wagyu and regular beef. Maybe I could if I didn't get any toppings, but for $9 I felt like getting everything included. The burger has a coleslaw of pickle, tomato, lettuce, onion and a sauce that tastes like the Big Mac sauce from McDonald's. Everything about this place shows promise and authenticity (staff friendly, accommodations, things to do for the kids) but lacks the variety and uniqueness as a restaurant. Like they serve ice cream...but 3 other places on that block do too. They're opening coffee...but there's a Lavazza and a whole foods next door. And if you're looking for more meat options there's a bbq place next door as well. So TLDR: burger is solid, but not worth the $9.
