The debut includes three days of giveaways: on day one the first 50 guests in-store and in the drive-thru receive a year of free fried chicken (one six-piece bucket per month for 12 months) plus a T-shirt; on day two the first 100 diners receive a branded tote bag; and on day three guests get branded bucket hats. "A representative for the company tells Eater Portland that, counter to recent Instagram chatter, Oregon’s first location is not opening on Sunday, May 18; an issue on Google search results caused the upcoming Hillsboro Tanasbourne Village shopping-center site to appear as though it’s about to open, and there is no official opening date at this time. The rep notes the former Chevy’s location will "live again as Anthony Bourdain’s favorite fast food spot any day now," and that the official opening date for the 1951 NW 185th Avenue outpost will be released "oh-so-very-soon" to the public; this follows an initial announcement that "crash landed in 2022." Diners are eagerly awaiting the debut — many consider the Philippines-founded behemoth to serve the best fast-food fried chicken — and beyond fried chicken the chain is known for spaghetti with hot dogs, halo-halo, and generous helpings of brown sauce; there are more than 900 locations in the Philippines, almost 100 in North America, and a Seattle outpost opened in June 2024. "Portlanders interested in trying Eater’s pick for best fast-food fried chicken won't have to wait much longer: construction on a new Tanasbourne Village location in Hillsboro is underway, with representatives saying the anticipated opening is slated for early 2025; reports that the chain would open its first location in Oregon first surfaced in 2022. The chain was founded in the Philippines in 1978; twenty years later it opened its first restaurant in the United States and currently operates 95 locations in North America. A brand representative told the Hillsboro NewsTimes: “[The chain] is thrilled to be expanding in the Pacific Northwest, having recently opened a store in Seattle proper this past June. They are excited to bring the joy of eating to new markets like Portland (and) Tanasbourne and can’t wait to see longtime and new fans experience the quality and value of dining with [the chain].” The new location will open at 1951 NW 185th Avenue.
