"Jonny B's, East Hills. Sometimes it’s the simple things that satisfy, like a hot dog on a split-top toasted bun. Top it with coleslaw for the Hampton Meeks or kraut for the Kraut Dog. They also have veggie dogs, hamburgers, and sandwiches for those who want something else. They’re open until 3AM on Friday and Saturday so they’ll take care of your 2am hotdog craving. Hangover solved."

Out of towner from Calif visiting a college for my son and found this cool place to hang out. Staff was quick and attentive and served me right up and quick. Smooth easy margarita I started the course with and had several specialty dogs throughout the night. You could taste the good ingredients and enjoyed that freshness of the bread. The steamed dogs had the right saltiness that makes your first impression bite just juice your taste buds. Not to mention some new best friends I met hanging around the counter , made this place a memorable stop.

Out of towner from Chicago and was pleasantly surprised by the yumminess of these dogs and fried pickles. The service was very friendly and attentive, place was clean, short wait, and had several options of seating (outside and in). The fried pickles were freakin' delicious and full of flavor. The breading was so full of flavor and was not overly breaded, which was great and the ranch dip that comes with them was pretty dang tasty too. I had the green chili (vegan) dog and the elote (meat) dog, which were both pretty good. I absolutely loved the green chili dog and thought the vegan hot dog was very good. However, the elote dog had a thing about it that I wasn't thrilled about, now being from Chicago elotes are a street food you can find pretty easily and I would choose an elote as a last meal if I was given the option, but I thought something about the elote mixture on top of my dog wasn't to die for (I think it might have had too much lime). Either way, I highly recommend eating here and if I come back to Grand Rapids, I would happily stop here again!

The presentation of these haystack onion rings as as classic as it is ubiquitous; a mound sprawled out to fill a black plastic basket topped with a checkered red and white paper. While not ground-breaking, it is pleasant, and ties into the essential ethos of the onion ring culinary arts. The appearance is, generally, a mixed bag. Unknown to me when I placed my order, haystack onion rings are characterized by a remarkably thin and small cut of onion. The standard onion ring, whether breaded or battered, is characterized by some of the largest rings able to formed from a standard sized onions, appropriately hand-held and rarely able to be consumed in a single bite. These haystack onion rings, on the contrary, were remarkably small and numerous, intermingling into a gloriously tangled web of fried onion, where one could easily eat multiple rings in a single bite. The sheen on the top of the pile indicated that they had come fresh out of the fryer, as the grease was permeating throughout the basket. While I admired the spirit of the onion rings' appearance, the inconsistent execution was its downfall. Beneath the top of the web was a wasteland of shattered and broken onion pieces, whether burnt, overcooked, or simply fallen off due to excess batter. My eyes did not deceive me when I observed the glistening grease on my platter, these onion rings were indeed hot, fresh, and greasy. For the more complete (and comparatively thicker) rings at the top of the pile, I got a surprisingly robust taste onion taste, for the thickness and size of the cut, at least. Generally, they were fairly weak, but packed an out sized punch. Beyond the meager onion taste, the only other flavors in the ring were an all-encompassing deluge of grease and salt. Now, grease and salt are pleasant to eat, and are the mainstays of any fried diet, particularly with the onion ring, but this haystack variety had them to an unpleasant excess, with no other subtleties of flavor to break up the monotony of the pillars of salt. In short, they were pleasantly addictive at the time, but the lack of depth (and the hours of heartburn after) cost them some serious points. In addition, the fragmentation of the rings mentioned above led this to be, by about halfway through the dish, to become more of a "pile of bits of fried onions" moreso than a true onion ring. The crunchy, crunchy breading completely overpowered all other textures in the rings, making it more like a collection of onion bits and better that perhaps were once an onion ring rather than a true onion ring. For all the guff I've given these haystack onion rings above, I truly think they were a reasonably good value. For $4, I got a huge basket that more than sufficed for a filling lunch when I stepped out of the office.

You know how long it's been since I've been able to eat chili dogs in a public restaurant since I stopped eating meat? Yeah that right that hot and chili was made out of plants and was good as hell.

What a great place! Apparently they have a new location, which is really nice although parking sucked. It was very busy at lunch time, but the service was still great and the food came out very fast! The hot dogs... Oh they were good. The best part was that the "bun" was actually a grilled piece of bread wrapped around the dog. I think any choice of dog would be a good one. The burger was just a burger - got the bacon cheeseburger and it was pretty standard. The French fries were delicious, crispy and had good flavor. The prices are low, and the food doesn't reflect it at all. Great place, hope to go back!

I am always on a quest to find the perfect chili dog and this place was awesome. A huge variety of dogs to choose from, and they will easily accommodate your choice of toppings. Brian was our waiter and he was so helpful. He suggested the cornbread bites and they might be a new favorite for me. So good. We each had a chili dog and they were yummy. I really liked their buns, very unique and Brian told us that they get them from Nantucket. We finished off with a rootbeer float. You can't go wrong. The atmosphere was fun, everything looked clean, the staff was friendly, and they had a nice amount of seating. Parking is another story, but that's to be expected in the city. We parked down a side street and took a little walk, but it was a gorgeous day. I will definitely be back because there is so many other things I want to try.

So beforehand: I went to the old location at least 2 dozen times, and loved the vibe and the food. Well tonight: I was back in town and wanted to try out the new location. Parking was easy enough, no wait to sit down, good waitstaff. Basically everything here besides the food was fantastic, price included. But the food: It just isn't the same as what it was. The dogs weren't cooked as well here, and the smoked meats (ribs, pulled pork, brisket) were decent with sauce but a bit bland without. The pulled pork fries were more promising at least, so maybe you're better off just getting happy hour drinks and a app instead of dinner. It just seems like the kitchen is trying to do too much here instead of focusing on their bread and butter. Takeaway: With all the room inside, you'd the new Johnny B'z could have maintained a lunch counter-aesthetic with their dogs, but unfortunately the quality is decidedly mediocre. Patrons on Wealthy St. have more options than ever now, and cheap prices might seem desirable now, but the young crowd will gladly pay a premium for better food experiences.
