Hadn't had biltong since I came back from my semester abroad in Cape Town a couple years ago, so I was excited to find this place - and it certainly did not disappoint! Tasty biltong and super kind, helpful staff. Last time I came in, I mentioned that I wanted to mail some to my parents as a gift (they gave it rave reviews via text), and the guy working (I think his name was Jason?) offered to vacuum sealer it for me and we had a nice conversation about his upcoming trip to SA. Personal recommendation: go for the kind with the fat in it and add some peri-peri spice. It's around $40 per pound for the regular beef, and a bit more for grass fed beef, but it's worth the occasional indulgence. They also have a small assortment of other South African food items, like rooibos and rusks.

Whenever I come across another beef jerky lover, I tell them to go here to try biltong. It's so good! If you like a little heat, definitely get your biltong spiced!

I'd read about this place online before my visit to NYC and was looking forward to it. I got 1lb of the wet Biltong beef jerky, he let me try a few types first before I settled on the wet version. It was very nice and he even added a bit of peri powder to it to spice it up. Unfortunately as per a previous customer, it made my stomach hurt after a short time and I had to discard most of it, which was a shame. I'm normally fine with spicy food but couldn't take this, it put me out of action the next day. It was probably the peri powder on it and not the beef jerky but still it was a bad experience and made me wary of trying other beef jerky in NYC.

I fell in love with biltong and droewors on my first trip to South Africa. Finding Jonty Jacobs was a must-visit. I had a nice experience shopping there on a very cold winter day. The store clerk was very friendly. I really enjoy their biltong. I do wish their droewors was a little less dry. Overall, this was a pleasant stop. I shall return :)

I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit. Jason helped my husband and I....& and he was so knowledgeable about Biltong! The Biltong was quite tasty so I will definitely be back when we visit NY from Houston.

SOUTH AFRICA 🇿🇦 Eat the World NYC review: Not your typical beef jerky, the West Village's Jonty Jacobs is a purveyor of biltong, the famous dried and cured meat from South Africa. The shop also has packaged goods for homesick expats, and makes a charming stop to any walk around the area.
