Detroit’s Best Mexican Restaurants | Eater Detroit

"This longtime family diner on Michigan Avenue underwent an ownership change in 2024 and now, under the helm of the operators of Taqueria Mi Pueblo, the spot features a menu of classic Mexican and American-style breakfasts that some liken to a Mexican Coney Island. Try a plate of huevos rancheros, chilaquiles available with red or green salsa, filling breakfast burritos, and fresh-squeezed orange juice, along with pancakes, club sandwiches, pita wraps, and perhaps one of the best cafe de ollas in the city. The casual dining room has plenty of table and booth seating, along with a lunch counter. Great for catching up with regulars. Online ordering is available." - Serena Maria Daniels

Here Are Detroit’s 10 Biggest Restaurant Stories of 2024 | Eater Detroit

"Taken over by the family behind one of southwest Detroit’s most popular casual Mexican restaurants, this classic Coney Island–style diner has been redefined: you won’t find Coney Island hot dogs on the menu, but you will encounter many staples of a traditional Coney Island restaurant as well as a line of Mexican breakfast favorites, including huevos rancheros, chilaquiles, pancakes, fresh-squeezed orange juice, cafe de olla, club sandwiches, and pita wraps." - Serena Maria Daniels

This Southwest Detroit diner serves Mexican and American breakfasts | Eater Detroit

"A longtime Claytown diner operating since 1986 that was recently taken over by the family behind Taqueria Mi Pueblo and rebooted on July 31. The menu blends Mexican and American breakfast and diner fare — think huevos rancheros and huevos divorciados, chilaquiles in red or green salsa, breakfast burritos and tortas, alongside pancakes, waffles, eggs and toast, and classic breakfast meats; patrons can also choose taqueria-style proteins such as chorizo, carne asada, or al pastor. Drinks include fresh-squeezed orange juice, traditional aguas frescas, bottled Cokes and Jarritos, and a notably aromatic cafe de olla brewed with cinnamon, piloncillo, and cloves and served in a glazed ceramic olla. The spot kept much of its original staff, underwent modest renovations (removed a drop ceiling, added rustic wood detailing, reupholstered seating, and new lighting), and attracts a mixed clientele of longtime regulars and Mi Pueblo loyalists — a family-friendly fusion that lets older diners enjoy traditional Mexican breakfasts while younger guests opt for pitas, clubs, or burgers topped Mexican-style with avocado and pico de gallo; top off a meal with Mi Pueblo’s popular flan. Open 7:30 a.m.–3 p.m. Monday–Saturday and 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Sunday." - Serena Maria Daniels

Jordan's Restaurant Review - Bar Harbor - The Infatuation

"Not to be confused with Jordan Pond House inside of the park, Jordan’s Restaurant is a homey diner that’s made blueberries its entire personality. They’re most famous for their blueberry pancakes and muffins, but you shouldn’t ignore their stacked sandwiches served on thick slices of marbled rye bread. It costs $2 extra to get your pancakes with a cup of warm wild blueberry syrup, but it’s 1000% worth it." - Anne Cruz

Update 7/10/25: We had another good experience during breakfast. Food was served quickly. My wife said the chicken and waffles was awesome. I had the same dish as before(se pics) and it was just as good as the 1st time. Pleasantly surprised! Stopped by while our car was being serviced. Our waitress was great. Very willing to recommend items when asked. She came back to check on us several times and the food came out quick once we ordered. It was very tasty and we will be coming back.

If you want traditional diner feel and prices with authentic Mexican flavor and taste, check this place out! Its fantastic. Whether regular coffee or their spiced coffee- its delicious! I have a preference for their Mexican/Mexican-influenced dishes. Ive been twice, both times tried something different, and neither has missed. Service is fantastic and you couldn't ask for better prices. My advice, go early, this place gets packed quick.

The food wasn't bad, the price it's way to much for lunch time. The staff was friendly. But yes it's more like a Mexican style. I don't hate it lol. It's the price that am not into it. But ya I'll just come for breakfast instead of lunch time.

Last time I was here was 25 years ago. I decided to stop by and reminisce my childhood. The server was extremely helpful. She took my order and before I know it my my food was being serviced. I have never had my food brought out so quickly, it was hot and fresh. I was super impressed. This place has been around for years and I know why. Food is good and hot and the service was top notch . You guys have to stop by and give it a shot.

Friendly service, affordable breakfast options. Ladies cooked our meals very fast, and everything was fresh and tasty. I’ve tried the Mexican spiced coffee with cinnamon for the first time, it was a bit too sweet for me but tasted good.

I ordered the soup of the day, which was lentil soup (thursdays), and the chilaquiles. Their chilaquiles come with no egg already unlike other Mexican restaurants, which I prefer and usually have to ask for without. You can add eggs or meat for an upcharge though if you’d like. I also love that they use queso fresco over shredded white cheese like other local Mexican restaurants. I much prefer the taste and texture of queso fresco. It was my first visit after the renovation and I absolutely love it. Very cute environment. Love the Spanish music, really set the vibes. My only slight negative was the use of Fabuloso to clean the neighboring tables. The smell completely filled my nostrils and stomach, which thankfully I was nearing the end of my meal. I will definitely be coming back for the great food, friendly service, and cute atmosphere!

I am so happy to see this restaurant back in business. It has been purchased by Mi Pueblo and is now serving fusion breakfast, so you can get all of your mexican breakfast favorites along with your american standards.

Yelp
Everyone is southwest knows this is the spot for breakfast. They have limited hours for a reason! This spot always has people and the turn around is so quick! You order to go or you dine in you will not be disappointed! The food is great. The time for turnaround is great. They have great breakfast food. There is plenty of seating inside and parking is not an issue at all. The location is great not too far from the highway east to get to. You can go in with large families and have a big booth seating to accommodate all of y'all. Or go in alone and still feel welcomed.

Yelp
We were hankering for a good old fashioned diner breakfast and Jordan's family restaurant delivered. We both had the #3 (eggs, pancakes, and bacon or sausage). Tasted just like grandma's. They served the food quickly and even included whip cream free of charge.

Yelp
A non fancy restaurant that gets you in and out fast even at lunch time. Service is always stellar(Hence the 4 star review) the staff knows their regulars. They also have daily specials that change. Nice spot for a good bite and friendly service
google avatar

Amelia B.

Yelp
4 stars because its a neighborhood institution and we need it to stay around! Take it for what it is. A small family diner with good breakfasts, lunch and simple dinners for VERY reasonable prices. The kind of diner where everyone is a regular, every day has a special and the coffee refills dont end. Yeah, prices went up a teeeeeny bit, but its 2018 still cheaper than any chain. Service is quick and efficient. Soups are what determines if i get breakfast or lunch. Breakfast special is the way to go. I get bacon and Over Medium eggs. Rye bread. French toast also Good options. I like the open face sandwiches if i want something warm, dinner specials like meatloaf are usually awesome. I LOVE french fries amd gravy, their beef gravy is great. Give them a try. Dont let the fact they share a corner with a Gentleman's Club detour you. Besides, where else ya gonna go?

Yelp
This place was a sweet find! Ran like a well oiled machine and within minutes were greeted, coffee poured and waitress ready to serve. Food was fast, hot and delicious! Coffee cups never ran dry and wait staff always attended to table. Great place - cant say enough about this business and the staff; will return when visiting area again.

Yelp
Best breakfast/lunch in town, from the patty melt to the chicken pita to the omelette, you won't find one thing on the menu you won't like. The staff is friendly and quick and the owners are honest and caring people. Everything is homemade and you can tell with your first bite. If you're in the mood for a great meal, look no further. When talking about small businesses, Jordan's is at the epicenter of it all and has never disappointed me.

Yelp
Detroit is one of few places where you will see a family diner next door to a gentleman's club. I passed by a thousand times before I finally decided to go in and I'm glad I did. Very popular place for Saturday morning breakfast. If you're not there by 9, you'll probably have to wait for a table. Servings seem a little bit smaller than at other restaurants but its still a great value since it is significantly cheaper. I've only had their omelettes and hash browns; those are so amazing I've never even thought of getting something different.

Yelp
Fast and damn delicious. I am a breakfast special guy and that is all I ever get anywhere and this is one of the top 10 in metro Detroit. Simple and service is outstanding

Yelp
I visit at least 6 times a year a year and they have yet to disappoint me. Fast friendly service. Affordable and the food is awesome. Only thing I hate they don't take debit or credit cards.
google avatar

Ariana G.

Yelp
The best restaurant in town!!! Best potato soup and chicken noodle! If you're in the area stop by, won't be disappointed. Don't forget get to grab a slice of pie.

Maria R.

Yelp
Went there for Brunch on a Saturday. We were the only ones in the restaurant. Our server was very nice but an older woman just carried on there with a mean look on her face. My husband sent his food back to the kitchen 3 times for the cook to fix. The cook could not make it look like the picture on their menu and finally a server finished with it and it was very nice. The toast came out with no butter and when asking for butter it was frozen. The bathrooms are very dirty actually the whole place could use a good scrubbing. The coffee was good and the 2 servers were very polite.
google avatar

Eldwin L.

Yelp
A great greasy spoon and diner and cheap prices they have been around for decades but close early by 4 o'clock basically just because they're so good they don't need the business if you like a good diner food or home cooked fare it is the place to go and were at least one stopping and if you don't like it which won't be the case for you and a friend you might only be out 15 bucks give it a try
google avatar

Graves D.

Yelp
The best breakfast in SW Detroit! Try to get there on a Saturday morning and you may have to wait. Their hash browns can't be beat. The service is always with a smile and the fantastic mix of patrons are just as friendly. I would give them 5 stars, but I've only ever eaten there for breakfast.

Jennifer H.

Yelp
I Freaking Love this Restaurant with all my Heart! The service is great! Especially one of her waiters Virginia she the bomb her service is not like any other waiter in the restaurant she always with a smilie! On Saturdays morning you might want to go early because it fills up quickly since the food is super great (especially the mash potatoes with gray).

Raj P.

Yelp
Lunch is great and fast. Taste like homemade. CASH ONLY but have an ATM. Meal averages about $7

Amelia B.

Yelp
They DO accept debit cards. My family and I have been eating there as long as I can remember and the employees are nice. Great service!! :) :D

Yelp
Jordan's not only has the best hashbrowns and coffee BUT the best staff and service. We dearly miss them we've relocated to Texas 5 yrs ago and we have YET to find an awesome family restaurant as Jordan's.....Ihop and Denny's are totally horrific.....food is always cold hashbrowns suck, service is sloooow. Jordan's they are just the best anytime breakfast and dinner. Weekends is a bit crazy because its busy due to its great food, service and foremost you feel @ home and prices are totally reasonable its worth the wait.............. LUV YA GUYS Cristina, Jose, Beatriz, Vivica and now Giselle new addition. Blessings
