The Best Wineries with Food in Napa Valley | Eater SF

"The 360-degree views from Joseph Phelps’ hidden terrace are almost as appetizing as the luxe A Taste of Place experience ($350 per person, offered Wednesday through Monday at noon). Executive chef Tod Kawachi plans the multi-course experience to match the wines. To dive even deeper, the chef’s tasting menu pairs with single-vineyard wines and vintage bottles ($450 per person, offered one select weekend a month at noon)." - Dianne de Guzman

NAPA VALLEY CITY GUIDE

"Joseph Phelps Vineyards is a wine estate with vineyards and wineries in Napa Valley and on the western Sonoma Coast. The winery was founded in 1973 by Joseph Phelps, a successful construction executive and entrepreneur whose early interest in wine led him to establish vineyards in Napa Valley, and later in Freestone on the western Sonoma Coast. Phelps is best known for its flagship wine, Insignia, a Napa Valley blend of red Bordeaux varieties first produced in 1974. The winery offers a variety of visitor experiences, by appointment. Pleasant to be here and learn about the wine aroma wheel. It’s been a very educational experience, learning to sense and smell aromatized, vaporized particles. This is a wine smelling event rather than a wine tasting one—there are only five basic tastes, but the aroma wheel captures hundreds of different scents 😂 the signature insignia line is great.

Lovely vineyard featuring a beautifully designed timber tasting room where distinguished labels are enjoyed in a relaxed setting. While enjoying our Joseph Phelps wines with arguably the best vineyard view in Napa, we had great conversations with Leslie who made us feel right at home. She was very comforting when we asked about the future of the brand after a recent acquisition which made us feel at ease because we are big fans of the label. Definitely recommend to anyone visiting as it’s a great place to enjoy an afternoon.

Google
We had a relaxed and fabulous time at our tasting at Joseph Phelps! Our group was seated outside in a U-shaped configuration so as to have an incredible view of the vineyards while we had our tasting. Our experience there was one of our favorites on our Napa Valley Wine Tour!

I have been wanting to visit Joseph Phelps for over a year now and I am so glad I got to visit on my trip to San Francisco this time. I went with a couple college friends of mine. We all enjoyed the wine so much, special shout out to our sommelier Will. He was so professional , kind and shared a lot of a lot of of his knowledge with us. I bought a few bottles, but when I left the winery, I knew I should’ve checked. They gave me the wrong bottles and Will went above and beyond to swap the bottles for me since I was leaving SF this weekend. Thank you for an unforgettable experience of Joseph Phelps . We will be back it has become my favorite winery in Napa. Highly recommend it to people who are looking for an upscale winery and delicious wine. The best of best.

We opted for the Founder's Tasting and found it spectacular. While the inside is absolutely something I want to live in - the view from the back patio is stunning. The staff is friendly and playful - making the experience feel effortless. No hard sales pitch here to join the wine club, but $10 bucks says you will once you're done with the tasting.

Visited for the Bountiful Table Experience. Fantastic food and wine pairing. Food was incredible, Wine was incredible. Would highly recommend. Andrew was our host and did a great job. Purchased wine and joined the club. Follow up. Visited again (3 years after original visit). Participated again at the Bountiful Table Experience. Same incredible experience. Different food and different wine as the menu changes seasonally, but still fantastic. Johnathan was our host. He and the rest of the team were great. I highly recommend the experience.

Very kind staff here. Got a private room to work out of while the party tasted delicious wines. Beautiful venue with one of the best views of Napa.

Our wine tasting was enlightening in so many ways. Adrian Caldera was magnificent. My next glass of wine will be a totally new experience because of what I learned from him. We had so many questions, and he had all the answers! Book your wine tasting at Joseph Phelps and request Adrian as your educator!

Yelp
Visited several wineries on our trip and this one by far had the best personalized and dedicated service, information/education and amazing personalities that made our experience over the top! (Thanks Antone!!) The views were spectacular and the wines were amazing. Highly recommend and can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Service 5/5 Wines 5/5 Ambiance 5/5 Wow! Our tasting experience at Joseph Phelps was memorable and phenomenal. Michael led our private tasting and was like a human encyclopedia. He was extremely knowledgeable about the Joseph Phelps wines and the evolution of wine globally as well. Would highly recommend scheduling an experience here and personally cannot wait to return!

Yelp
Booking a wine tasting for two at Joseph Phelps Vineyards to celebrate my partner's birthday was an absolute hit, especially for a huge fan of Cabernet Sauvignon like myself! From the moment we stepped in, we were met with warmth and hospitality. Our host exuded friendliness, energy, and a wealth of knowledge that added an extra layer of enjoyment to our visit. The journey into the history of the vineyards and the captivating tale behind their remarkable wine, Insignia, was truly engaging. Learning about the roots of the winery while savoring their exquisite Cabernet Sauvignon was an experience we won't soon forget. Being a devoted Cabernet Sauvignon fan, I was elated by their selection. The 2019 Delice, Napa Valley, was a sensory masterpiece, offering fragrant gardenia, stone fruit, and delicate tropical notes. Layers of passion fruit, ripe peach, and guava danced on the palate, evoking memories of Canadian ice wine - prompting me to acquire a bottle for my collection. The outdoor setting allowed us to soak in the breathtaking vineyard views and relish the gentle breeze. We were pleasantly surprised to find cozy blankets thoughtfully provided at the seating areas, ensuring we stayed comfortable even if the weather turned a bit chilly. Our overall tasting experience was nothing short of great. The combination of exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon, a knowledgeable host, and the idyllic ambiance left us with smiles on our faces.

Yelp
A visit to our wine club never disappoints. The beauty of this winery and the stellar wine is entirely an unforgettable experience. All of the employees are so very friendly, knowledgeable and assist as needed. We had some small bites with our wine tasting and they were excellent. This is definitely wine done right!

Yelp
Came to Joseph Phelps today on a complimentary tasting gifted by a friend and had the best time. Jordan, our sommelier was super kind and nice. He showed us to our area and poured all our wines. I enjoyed that he came to check on us frequently and took the time to memorize our names and talk to us. I ended up taking home a bottle of the 2021 Pinot Noir and 2019 dessert wine. I'm not a super "dry" wine girl so these plus the Chardonnay were my favorite of the tastings. Joseph Phelps is a beautiful winery with a stunning property and super kind staff. Do note that they allot about 90min for each party.

Yelp
We have been Joseph Phelps' member for over 5 years and this is one of our favorite wineries in Napa Valley! Love most of the wine including Chardonnay, Pinot, Cab and definitely Insignia. Tried the Vin du Mistral Red Blend this time, which is a typical GSM blend this time and it was good too! The last weekend in February was cold with the amazing snowy peak view from the terrace, which was a must-see rare view!

Yelp
5 star!!!!!! Actually 10 Star service Adrian is amazing on every level!!!!! If you come to napa you must visit Joseph Phelps for the beautiful winery, amazing wine and everything was over the TOP!!! Request Adrian

Yelp
*edited my review in response to management's comment* If your "handling it with grace" means lying to your customers on having a maximum 6oz per person policy, then I would never want to be on the receiving end of such grace. If you indeed have such policy, then share it here and make sure it has a management approval date prior to our event date. If you don't know how to handle the situation without lying to your customers or fausly accusing your customers for being intoxicated, then you should add that to your training. The way you handled the situation was disgraceful to say the least. I would give no star if possible. We went for food and wine pairing , which was $350 plus tax and tips (menu below). For that price range you have certain expectations but this place felt short in every way. Mediocre food and wine. We were also told they have a maximum 6oz wine per person policy so we were not able to revisit any wine. Never had that in any other winery before. Our party was 18 people and they only assigned us 1 host, which was clearly not sufficient.

Yelp
What a fantastic experience! First time at the winery but have enjoyed their wines over the years! Felipe was the consummate host who had lots of information and was so personable! Wanda was the lovely lady who took our information and set us up at the best location overlooking the property! What a fabulous experience!

Yelp
Talk about impressive! The terrace view here has got to be one of the most beautiful places in the Napa valley! Just absolutely breathtaking!! The view alone is a reason to come here. Their wine is some of my favorite so that doesn't hurt either lol..

Yelp
The service was terrible. The server refused to serve wine to one of the girls on my table just because she needed help to get off the car?! The server was accusing her of being intoxicated. My friend just came back from the Asia and still had jet lag, she was taking a nap in the car. After we arrived one of the girls was holding her hand while she was getting out of the car since she was not fully awake yet. Does that mean she was intoxicated? After my friend talked to their manager, they agreed to serve her wine since she didn't show any signs of intoxication. But we all lost our appetite, we stayed there only because we didn't want to ruin the day for the bride to be. Later they refused to provide wine revisits for our table while other people got 3 rounds of revisits. They explained it's California law, are they telling me the other two tables were not in California? I flew all the way from Portland to San Francisco just wanted to have fun with my friends, but they totally ruined it. On top of the bad service, we paid $350/ person not including tax and tips. Also, the food came in tiny portion with 1 oz wine for each pairing. If you need help to get out of the car stay away from this place. If you don't want to ruin your day, your vacation, damage your friendships stay away from this place.

Yelp
This was our first stop on our vacation in Napa after it was recommended to us by a colleague. It was a wonderful experience from beginning to end! They go out of their way to ensure they know the names of your entire party in advance, which makes everything feel catered to you and intimate. Our host was Whitney and she was so great. It was the perfect balance of education on the wine, small talk, and giving us the space to sit and enjoy the wine and the views on our own. The property itself is gorgeous and the wines were all incredible.

Yelp
After yesterday's experience, I will be a Joseph Phelps fan forever! This winery really raises the bar for fine wines. The location and view is breathtaking. The service was nothing short of phenomenal. The wines are impeccable! I typically leave a winery enjoying one or two wines at most. I genuinely enjoyed every single pour.  I'm typically not a big pinot noir person, but their pinots were so good! Get ready for delicious wines! Terrace Tasting - $90/person There are several experiences other than the Terrance Tasting on their website. The range is $90 - $400 per person.

Yelp
This was the best wine tasting experience that we had while visiting Napa. Adrian Caldera led our private tasting and was incredibly knowledgeable about the vineyard and all that goes into wine making. He was also very personable. I would absolutely recommend this experience for anyone looking for education as well as an overall beautiful location. Don't miss out on this place OR this fabulous wine.

Yelp
I love Joseph Phelps! The wine is fabulous, and the employees all rock! Every year I call and order a bottle of the Cabernet for my girlfriend to be shipped to her for her birthday. Each year I work with Missy. She is absolutely wonderful! Everybody I have spoken to at the Vineyard has been so gracious, wonderfully kind and helpful, and so much fun to talk to. I cannot say enough good things about this vineyard. Joseph Phelps wine and all of the employees are the best!

Yelp
Came to Joseph Phelps for the Insignia blending experience and my group had an amazing time. From first walking into the estate, to our class with our knowledgeable guide, to the enjoying the beautiful estate and vineyard views, this experience was so memorable from the beginning to the end. We got there about 30 minutes before our 10:30am time slot, and we got to wait in a gorgeous room and look around the estate. The tasting started with chardonnay, pinot noir, and a cabernet sauvignon glasses. Joey was super knowledgeable and was answered questions from the group. I've never had a tasting experience that dove so much into the technical side of winemaking, so that was really interesting to experience. For the blending experience, we got 6 of their reds to blend together and obviously nothing I came up with was even close to their Insignia blend. It was an awesome experience and great way to kick off our day in Napa! I'd definitely come back to do their terrace tasting, it is truly one of the most beautiful estates I have ever had a wine tasting at.

Yelp
Wow!!! What a wonderful and memorable experience. From the moment we pulled up on the parking lot we were greeted. The Inside is beautiful. Andrew our host was amazing, knowledgeable and kept us entertained. He had us sit outside for a bit, then we headed to our table to the bountiful experience. The food was delicious, everything that came out had great taste, presentation and the wine pairing with the food was an explosion of goodness in your mouth. Definitely coming back!!!

Yelp
Joseph Phelps is definitely my go to spot as the wine is that good. Still family owned by the Phelps family since 1972, the quality of their Cabernet really and Boudreaux style blends really speak for itself. It is not just about how many 100 points wine they produced over the years, but the commitment to quality and the experience at its blending classes and terroir' tastings and the beautiful view of the estate vineyard that make Phelps really the special place in Napa! I appreciate the flagship Insignia, but at the $75 price points the Joseph Phelps Cabernet is the crowd pleaser and probably the best price to quality ratio! Please book way ahead for your appointment (now on Tock) as Phelps is always busy but they like to keep the winery sane (so no elbow to elbow people jammed into a tasting room). Join the club! Taste the wine! Let's start the Phelps journey together!

Yelp
Long over due review. I feel so lucky we got to visit this winery. *Husband took me here to celebrate my birthday and I have to say this was the best wine tasting I have had. Yes it's expensive, but the view, service & wine is totally worth it. *The added 5 star touch which you don't see for privacy reasons, was they had our names on the menu! *Our server was amazing! I wish I could remember his name. Sweet man who lives in Vacaville. He wasn't over bearing or talk too much but enough to explain the wine we were drinking, and the history of the winery and we NEVER had a empty glass, lol. He always came at the right time to fill our glasses. *and those olives. Omg... best olives ever!! I think I ate like 4 bowls Would definitely recommend if you can go!

Yelp
We have food and wine pairing at the winery. The host only shows up for the first dishes to introduce the food and disappear for the rest wine food pairing. The set meal is $350 plus tax plus tip which around $500 but the service we got super bad. One of my wine has something in my wine, they replace the wine but volume is less than before. The host only comes to me says " it is nature bug". This is pretty unprofessional response. The female host rejects our revisit wine requests! I really want to give less than 1 review ! This is pretty ridiculous winery! I rarely post review but this winery forces me to let everyone know! Mangement is in wrong accusation 1. Several people are intoxicated? Pls proof how many and who ? And also in what degree ? Intoxicated is a strong wording which need to use any test to verify not by people "judgement ". Also, if it is really "Several" , CCTV can record people are walking very untable. Pls proof it. Otherwise, they just make a wrong accusation 2. Rude? What do you define? No one use sweat word to them? How rude will be? CcTV should have record. Proof it 3. They know it is my friend big date but their service ruin out. What is good for that? Host disappeared after 2 or 3 courses and not doing any introduction for any wine & food pairing. CCtV can show the host doesn't on spot all the times . I just want to be equal treated by paying $500 and I really feel like it is a ripe off experience!

Yelp
There is no question that Joseph Phelps is the premier place in Napa Valley to taste world class wine in a fully immersive guest experience environment. It's also an opportunity to witness sustainable viticulture in action & learn about their fantastic labor & housing support for their full time staff. Phelps turns 50 in 2023. Hope you'll be able to stop by to congratulate them in person soon. I reflect on a recent visit in this review. Enjoy! Elegance. It's impossible to define but when you encounter it you just KNOW. Old money is like that. New money, it just isn't the same. Napa is full of billionaires who want to make wine like the do at Joseph Phelps. Except that they can't because money alone does not buy elegance. Elegance, it takes commitment. It takes 50 years of work. It takes days of waking up early & going to bed late. Fathers passing on legacies to sons passing on legacies to grandchildren. That's what they do at Phelps. They make wine. But they create legends as well. $150 for a private tasting may seem like a lot. $400 for a bottle of Insignia might seem expensive. It's not. I know: why even review a place this elevated on LinkedIn, Google or Yelp? We're not talking about pizza to go. This is the best that Napa can offer. Don't take Joseph Phelps lightly. It's more than wine. It's a complete narrative that is the quintessential American Dream. This is wine tasting for those who care. I can't tell you more. Like falling love, you need to experience it for yourself. Words fail to express it otherwise. On a personal note, I want to thank the ultra talented kitchen for accommodating my ketogenic diet (low carb eating) when designing the superb duck rillette with maitake mushroom & Bloomsdale spinach. It was a perfect accompaniment to the vintages of Insignia, the flagship wine here, that were part of our expertly guided private tasting. Next time, I have to sign up for the entire Bountiful Table experience (as long as it's keto). Cheers! #experience #sustainable #love #housing #winetourism #napavalley

Yelp
Response to Caitlin, business manager: Caitlin, I understand your concern for health and safety, which is much appreciated; however, as I stated originally, we were denied from the very beginning. Based on what you said, it sounds like your staff "evaluated" and concluded that we were all intoxicated as soon as we walked through the door, which was by the way far from the truth. Please don't make it seem like we're drunks who can't handle themselves in public. We're all highly educated and respectable women. Some individuals had some drinks before hand but they were not being distributive or belligerent. In fact, our group was being respectful enough despite the treatment we received. Clearly your staff finally crossed a line. I don't blame my group and their frustration. Try blowing $500 for terrible service you're not happy with and see how you feel --------------------------- Went here with a large group and tried the bountiful table. Food and wine tasted good but not worth it for the price (and misery we went through). Service and policies were TERRIBLE. I believe our hostess called the winery "a responsible drinking establishment." I was a bit confused and surprised to hear that because I've been to many wineries and have NEVER heard this unique term before. We wanted to have some wine while we waited for the rest of our party to arrive since they were running late but our request to start the tasting was rejected, which was fine (at first). HOWEVER, our request to BUY a bottle to share between the 7 of the currently present attendees was also rejected. Our hostess stated she didn't want to give us wine at that time since they would be "serving plenty of wine" later. I felt like the people who arrived on time were being punished. We were served bread sticks, olives, and water, which we enjoyed for a full hour before getting our first splash of the tasting. Food tasted good but most came out cold. Not sure if that was purposeful or because we started late but to be paying that much I expected the food to come out perfect. I was annoyed by our hostess' ridiculous comments when she saw our empty plates, "oh looks like you're all enjoying your food seeing those empty plates!" Well what do you expect... we'd been waiting for over an hour to eat and the food being served for each course was the size of a golf ball. We asked to revisit one time during the meal and our hostess said "later" and quickly walked away. We decided to buy a couple bottles to play a little game for our bachelorette party since most people had little to no wine. However, our request to BUY wine was rejected AGAIN. Isn't that the whole concept for a winery? SELL the wine. We were willing to purchase more wine outside of the fee we were already committed to but we was still denied. Every little request was so stressful. We even needed the hostess' and chef's permission to box up our desserts. Everyone had complaints. These were only my experiences and barely even scratches the surface to the horrible experiences my group went through as a whole. Everyone left angry and disappointed. More importantly, the poor celebrant also left unhappy. We couldn't even properly celebrate and give her a fun experience. Joseph Phelps FAILED MISERABLY on this one.

Yelp
Wow that's so clever! This winery has poor service, the food is not proportional to the price. The guests are blamed for being drunk and writing negative reviews. It is really treacherous and cunning.

Yelp
Joseph Phelps has some of the most beautiful views of all the wineries in Napa Valley. While it's not as private as some other wineries, it's still quite secluded. We drove through a pretty secluded road and then were greeted at the entrance with a lot of grapevines and low hills. After a short walk through their Joseph Phelps memorial pathway, we reached the entrance. Our wine tasting experience took place outdoors where we could enjoy the stunning view of rolling hills with some amazing wine, breadsticks, and olives. They provided blankets for us in case we were cold. We were also spaced pretty far from the party next to us. Our host did a great job introducing us to each wine. After, our host graciously showed us the indoors and around the winery. We snapped a bunch of photos and overall had a great visit. For reference - we made reservations for a Tuesday 6 days before. You used to be able to wander around without reservations, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

Yelp
This was our first stop during our trip to Napa. We were hosted by Nancy, and her service has been unmatched. The conversation, history, and knowledge are incomparable. Our experiences after this have been underwhelming because the bar was set so high. This is definitely a must see if you are new to Napa Valley. You won't get the true, quality experience of a wine tasting in Napa without visiting Phelps. Nancy definitely gave us a reason to return.
google avatar

Scott K.

Yelp
A must when visiting Napa. The wine speaks for itself and if you have the opportunity to go for a wine tasting you will be taken away by the beauty of the valley and the vineyard. The staff is quite knowledgable about wine, the area and the history. I was amazed by the extent that if you have technical questions they were able to answer. Although I do love to go during the off season, having gone just as they were picking was a treat. Its been a while since I have see the grapes on the vines. As a member, they communicated well via email exchanges to make sure I could get a appointment for tasting. Its covid times and I totally understand that this is a busy time and everyone wants to get in. For the memberships I do have in the region, its nice to see that they would work around my schedule and give me options when the original date I wanted wasnt available.

T M.

Yelp
$120 per person for a wine tasting. I am glad we didnt make a reservation and were told to come back in one hour.

Yelp
Valentine's day at Joseph Phelps winery was a wonderful experience. Our hostess was so knowledgeable and friendly. Our tasting experience with Leslie allowed us to experience wonderful red wines at this historic winery. We enjoyed ourselves so much in their beautiful tasting area.

Yelp
May have been the prettiest view and aesthetics that we enjoyed out of all our wine tastings. Overlooking the valley was breathtaking. The wines were also extremely enjoyable, especially the insignia. Our host was incredibly friendly and shared not only background on each wine but also stories from around the area and recommendations for places to check out, wonderful host. Tastings were a bit on the lighter side but the quality was not. Would certainly recommend if you're ok with spending a bit of a premium.

Yelp
Out of all the wineries I've been to , this is my favorite for a tasting place on the front porch overlooking a serene winery. Our tasting expert Matthew is very knowledge. He told us the history of this vineyard, the wine making process, and his own 45 years of experiences. It never felt like an overwhelming amount of information. Matthew was so welcoming and made us feel comfortable enough that we asked any questions that came in mind. This place is gorgeous so does wines.

Yelp
Hello Wine Country! What ya say, Insigna? I missed you too Today was the first day of opening since covid. This was my first time here visiting with a member. Amazing views. I hear that the outdoor terrace is available for more people not just members. However, don't hold me to that. But it's obvious more places will have outdoor seating avail more than ever. The wines were good. One that stuck out was the Insignia.

Yelp
Beautiful ground with a amazing view! We sat outside with the option of sitting inside (July 23rd tasting) but we opted for the view. Our sommelier was Ema and he was awesome! Very informative, animated and extremely friendly. We was so lucky to have someone as good in their trade as him. The wines was good! Quarter Moon was definitely good for their reds. I normal gravitate to Cab Sauv... Not a Pinot fan but they had a really good one! Also their Quarter Moon Pinot was good as well. 2014 Insignia was very nice too. If you don't like something in Napa then you won't like it anywhere else.

Yelp
One of my favorite experiences in Napa! Incredible building, amazing views, knowledgable hosts, and most importantly great wine! Don't hesitate! Take the trip to JPV!

Yelp
Just a wonderful and special tasting experience. Reservation only, and just perfect VIP service and none of the tourists to navigate. Your tasting guide will walk you through a flight of excellent wines, in the cool comfort of the indoor tasting room.

Yelp
Being a big California wine lover and have visited dozens of wineries in Napa, Sonoma and many other regions around the world, i have to say Joseph Phelps visit was absolutely the worst experience by far. The host assigned to us Meredith and the manager were both extremely judgmental and condescending without even trying to be helpful. 17 of us each had $350 lunch with wine pairing. The service we received was astonishingly bad. First the host Meredith falsely accused me being intoxicated and refused to serve any wine right at the beginning of our lunch. After I asked what signed did I exhibit to raise concerns, she said my friend was holding my hand when I walked out of the vehicle. Really? That's how you call someone drunk just because my friend was holding me off the vehicle? Throughout the lunch, there was almost no service, they didn't tell us a thing about the courses served and their wine. They refused to give us an extra piece of bread when someone asked or allowed any revisits of wine because they said there is a 6 oz per person policy. A friend also found a bug in one of her wine and someone saw hair in one of her dishes. Overall the experience was horrible and when we tried to speak to the manager, she was cold and judgmental saying she would defer the services to the "professionally trained" staff. Now after reading the responses from the management upon our groups multiple complaints, it explained why this place was so poorly run. When your lack of basic service and respect to customers get exposed to the public, it is easiest for management to blame the customers for being intoxicated. Just so you know falsely accusing someone being intoxicated in public places like yelp is "libel" and I really hope you guys have evidence. How are we intoxicated when it was our first winery stop of that day? How is a group of women celebrating bachelorette party a public health safety issue? When you make false accusations of us showing signs of intoxication, can you please be clear on exactly what signs? You surely would have camera footage to prove yourself wrong and being a liar! We have videos and pictures before and after the party to prove no one was "intoxicated" or had too much to drink. PS: just found out you are part of LVMH group and I wrote to the group to file a formal complaint. This is absolutely not acceptable.

JPV has one of the most stunning views of one of its vineyards. Words cannot describe it in any way, form or shape correctly. You just have to come see it for yourselves, really no joke. I believe this beautiful prime real estate was chosen by Mr. JP because Mr. JP was a seasoned real estate developer for the wineries and vineyards before he became a winery owner. I guess drinking great wine sure beats building great wineries!! We had an excellent time tasting both their reds and whites. My favorite was their Insignia red blend. I suggest you break your bank account and buy a box of this beautiful red blend and you'll see what I mean. Love this vineyard. Have to check it out if you're ever in the area.

Yelp
After doing bountiful table before COVID I wasn't sure what the Terrence tasting would be like but it is WONDERFUL. Joseph Phelps is always so kind and knowledgeable and of course a beautiful setting. They still find ways to make people feel special.

Yelp
A private tour and tasting is such a treat for anyone here at Joseph Phelps. We were treated with outstanding vintages of wine. We had fine food paired with fine wines and great company. Outstanding campus.

Yelp
Joseph Phelps is probably one of the best vineyards I've visited for wine tasting thus far! My friend and I reserved the Terrace Tasting, which included 6 different wines to taste. Prior to being seated in the relaxing terrace, we were given a tour of their beautiful facility and even getting a quick sample of the wine aroma challenge, which was a unique and fun experience! During our tasting, our tour guide was extremely friendly and informative. Our wine tasting selection included: 2018 Sauvignon Blanc, 2016 Chardonnay, 2016 Pinot Noir, 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2013 INSIGNIA and their 2016 INSIGNIA. All wines were amazing, especially their INSIGNIA! Everything from their beautiful facility and gorgeous property outside, to friendly, knowledgeable service and even their amazing and addicting breadsticks (trust me, they're so good!!), I've enjoyed my experience at Joseph Phelps and I can't wait to come back to try more of their wines!

Yelp
I have been to Joseph Phelps twice in the last year. On the first visit we did the Insignia Wine Blending. Not only did we experience a phenomenal wine tasting, we had a great time learning about blending wines and blending our own. Several months later we visited again for the Bountiful Table culinary and pairing experience. Hands down the best experience I have had in all my trips to Napa. The food was incredible. Unique flavors, beautiful presentation, endless small courses never leaving the palette bored. And all perfectly paired with the best wine. Photos with the chef, a down to earth friendly sommelier, and a beautiful view. It was quite a splurge but I cannot wait to do it again!!

Yelp
I visited JPV with a friend who is currently a member. After my friend checked in for our tasting reservation, she was offered a wine glass for each of us, with a tiny pour of sauvignon blanc. While we were sitting at the couch waiting for our host, the same lady who offered us the two glasses started accusing us for pouring wine for ourselves. She snatched both of our glasses from our hands. Unbelievably RUDE! She then realized that she made a mistake and forgot that she just gave us those two glasses and started apologizing. I have been to this winery a multiple times before this. This is the only time that I experienced such bad customer service here.

Yelp
This winery in Napa is in a beautiful location. We were in went during Labor Day weekend and had their Bountiful Table tasting. It comes with 5 small dishes with about 7 wine paring. The first coarse was a pairing of a heirloom tomato salad with 2020 Sauvignon Blanc. The wine was crisp, with a honey melon notes. A great start. The second coarse was seared scallop paired with their 2018 Chardonnay. Best combo in my opinion. Sweet and salty scallop with the bright flavors of the Chardonnay just plain delicious. Third coarse was pork belly with 2 of their Pinots from 2017. The pork belly was cooked to perfection but I felt the wines didn't really add anything to the tasting. In my opinion the Pinots were ok. The forth coarse was a ribeye cap paired with their 2019 cabinet and 2018 insignia. The steak was a little over done but the wines were the best I tasted in the tasting. 2018 insignia was delicious. It doesn't need anything to be enjoyed. The last coarse was melon salad paired with their dessert wine Delice. The combination was light, sweet and refreshing. Good pairing. We really had a good time and we would definitely recommend this tasting for large groups or couples. The service was excellent and they call us ahead of time make changes to the dishes due to dietary restrictions.

Yelp
Come for the wine, stay for the views. I'm no wine connoisseur, but the staff here are incredibly experienced and know their wine! Our tasting included 6 different wines and all were fabulous on their own. Don't skimp out on the tour, the grounds overlook a beautiful panoramic view of the valley and of their family owned vineyard. Always a treat when we get to come to Joseph Phelps!

Yelp
Wow, definitely one of the more beautiful wineries in Napa. The tasting rooms inside the buildings itself are high ceiling and all glass. They have huge barrels of wine in the rooms with a huge collection of bottles surrounding the room signed by the friends and family who actually drank it. The best part is outdoors where there's patios overlooking the gorgeous vineyards. Since this winery is by appointment only, the service is superb as they are able to cater to the limited number of visitors. If you can get yourself a chance to come here, I'd definitely recommend it. Of course, it was a nice perk to come with someone who is already a member.

Yelp
Old school good. Expensive wines but hey, they taste like it. Meredith presented the wines very well and made us feel right at home. A "blue chip" selection if you are looking for a can't miss.
