Spring Street Wine Bar Josephine Opens in Charleston | Eater Carolinas

"Opening at 64 Spring St. on Tuesday, August 14 at 4 p.m., Joséphine Wine Bar is a Parisian-inspired spot where Chicago native Jill Cohen hopes to bring the charm of contemporary Parisian wine bars to the peninsula by offering fun bottles and sharable plates. At a media preview I saw a wine-friendly menu from chef Shaun Connolly (formerly of Chicago restaurants Nightwood, Moto, and Takashi) that included steak tartare with togarashi spice crackers, crispy polenta with wild mushroom ragu, curry-roasted carrots with coconut pesto, shrimp and zucchini tagliatelle, foie gras mousse, and more. Advanced sommelier Ashley Broshious joins the team alongside bar manager Melissa Yard (formerly of 5Church), and the newly renovated space is ready for customers looking for plates to share paired with interesting wines and cocktails." - Erin Perkins

Parisian Wine Bar Headed to Spring Street This Summer | Eater Carolinas

"Opening this summer at 64 Spring St., I learned Joséphine Wine Bar is a Parisian-inspired spot launched by Chicago native Jill Cohen, who moved to the Lowcountry to bring the charm of contemporary wine bars and cafes in Paris to the peninsula. The wine-friendly menu comes from chef Shaun Connolly (formerly of Chicago restaurants Nightwood, Moto, and Takashi) and features dishes such as Black Pepper Whipped Fromage de Vache with melon, cucumber, tomatoes, and sweet corn; Pappardelle with duck carnitas, serrano, kale, and spicy duck jus; and Chicken a la Plancha with leeks, capers, olives, grapes, and sherry jus. Advanced sommelier Ashley Broshious will join the team alongside bar manager Melissa Yard (formerly of 5Church). The name “Joséphine” is inspired by Empress Joséphine de Beauharnais, an avid collector who entertained often with a vast cellar of Grand Crus and wines from around the globe; an inventory taken after her death in 1814 found a predominance of Bordeaux in a 13,286-bottle list. Once open, look for Joséphine to unlock from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Wednesday, and 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., Thursday through Saturday." - Erin Perkins

Chose the restaurant for my team linch. The manager Ivan arranged for us to use the private area on the second floor. As we ordered our set lunches in advance, the meals were served promptly once we arrived. The team loved the food and we ate up everything. Price was reasonable compared to other restaurants in the vicinity and with the great food quality. We had a great time. Thanks for the great experience!

Visited for a team lunch on a weekday; we were seated upstairs where we were afforded privacy for conversation. Ambience and vibe was both classy and relaxing; loved the diverse floral prints decorating the walls. More importantly, all the dishes were excellent - the only minor gripe was that the apple pie could have been accompanied with some vanilla ice cream as the apple was a tad sour for my liking.

Absolutely delicious classic French cuisine, totally satisfied our cravings! Ordered the burrata, panfried foie gras, escargots and duck confit (which were all classic dishes) and every dish was a hit. Due to the promotion, we were also offered a complimentary dessert of our choice which we had a lava cake. Would definitely recommend Josephine’s!

Had a lovely dinner at Josephine, amplified by the great service and hospitality of Ivan, we had a great time. We had a difficult time making decision so it was great when Ivan checked in to understand our palate and gave recommendations. Fan of foie gras so had that and it’s good. Had the large cold cut platter and liked the duck rillette n Paris ham was good. Brie a little saltier that we liked. Had 3 mains - the rib eye, duck magret and kurobuta pork chop to share. Sauces and sides to those were yummms. The gratin a little salty. And then the delish desserts!! Had the apple tarte and profiterole which ended the meal perfectly 😋. We were there to celebrate our friend’s bday and Ivan not only ensured our dessert came with a candle but even remembered her name and was v friendly. Thanks for the lovely dining experience and generosity!

Our team of 14 was in town and we decided on Josephine for dinner. When many other venues requested a minimum charge, we had none of these issues here. Super friendly service, small but punchy menu and everyone loved each of their dishes. We had a fantastic evening - Merci beaucoup

We tried the Restaurant Week set menu tonight and were pleasantly surprised — it was well-priced and thoughtfully curated, much better than many big-name restaurants we’ve tried. If you’re dining as a pair, the set menu works out perfectly since you can sample all the dishes. The starters included a unique tuna sashimi and foie gras — both were delicious and nicely presented. For mains, we had salmon and steak. Personally, I found the salmon a little fishy (though my partner didn’t), and the steak was slightly overcooked — I’d recommend asking for a rarer doneness, as it can be a bit tough otherwise. That said, the cheesy baked potato served with it was absolutely tasty. Desserts came in two varieties — and the pistachio one really stood out! Rich in flavor but not overly sweet — a lovely way to end the meal. Overall, we truly enjoyed the experience. Great food, nice ambiance, and attentive service. Highly recommend giving it a try!

Had a wonderful reunion dinner there with the help of Ivan and his team. First time in a French concept restaurant and all seems like a foreign to us. Thanks to Ivan's recommendation, every suits our taste bud and dishes came in a organize sequence. At the same time, we had a bottle of SauvBlanc which is smooth and fruity. Josephine and Baba is the must try dessert for first timer.

Friends came here for the cocktail and oyster brunch but I wasn’t keen so I opted for their brunch menu. Ordered the croissant Benedict and it felt like something from a hotel breakfast buffet, it’s not terrible but it’s not something I would come here for. Friends got the pasta and croque madam which also looked pretty average.
