My friends and I loved our dinner at Josephine so much that the next night, we skipped dessert at another restaurant to go back to Josephine for a post-dinner seafood snack! The seafood is so fresh and delicious, and the service and staff so friendly and welcoming. The dish we really wanted (the grilled lobster) had just been sold out, and the server was so amazing and friendly, joking with us about our feigned disappointment. A big highlight of our trip!

We had difficulty finding reservations for the upcoming Father’s Day weekend. Called and they said they could squeeze us in at the oyster bar at 19:00. We walked over nearly a half hour early and were seated in their pleasant sidewalk outdoor area. Our waiter, Thomas was nice, efficient and accurate with his recommendations. My wife had fried calamari, not overcooked, light, crunchy crust, just the right amount for one person. I tried each of the 4 types of oysters offered that evening, simply with lemon and jalapeño sauce which I didn’t use. My wife ordered a grilled lobster, well prepared and simple. I ordered sea bass with a reduction sauce, mushrooms, clams and asparagus. Fish was moist, not overcooked with crispy skin. Skipped dessert. Sorry, I ate the oysters before the photo.

We just love Josephine’s. Such wonderful attentive staff. Great summer terrace. Delicious food! Must try the zucchini appetizer Parking isn’t easy but we always manage. A gem! And prices are very fair

We booked a table on the patio for 8:30pm on a Wednesday. When we got there, we got told that they don't take bookings for the patio and that we have to wait like any walk-in people (?). We finally got a table around 9:15pm, but they never gave us menus, so we waited another 20 minutes to get them (and we did have to ask for them!) 9:40ish, we finally started ordering and everything was fine after that. The food looked and tasted very good. We tried the oysters, calamaris, octopus and mussels. Conclusion: don't bother booking and don't be in a hurry!

A lovely place with a great atmosphere and an excellent Chef. Food was amazing, tasty and well presented. We enjoyed all plates, the staff was very caring and the plates were delivered quickly. Highly recommended.

Fabulous dinner at Josephine. We went on Wednesday for the oyster special, they were fresh and delicious! Our waitress was very kind and knowledgeable as well. Will be coming back!

Google
Had a fantastic dinner er at Josephine with my wife and son. For apples we shared Lion’s mane mushrooms, an octopus salad, and a seafood plateau with four mussels, two shrimp, and salmon gravalax - they were so delicious we devoured them before I managed to get photos - sorry - highly recommend each dish. For mains, two of us had the special - mackerel, and one the lobster ravioli. The mackerel was cooked perfectly, grilled on one side only, and accompanied by various veggies. The ravioli was delicious, cooked perfectly al dente. We sampled a number of cocktails and I had or sampled the best espresso martini, classic martini, and vesper I have ever been served - wow! Our server was extremely helpful and very friendly - absolutely top notch service by her and everyone we interacted with. They also accommodated my wife’s dairy and gluten allergies without compromise - well done! Excellent, excellent, excellent!

Yelp
I made a dinner reservation here after reading many reviews. I was looking forward to dining in this lovely bistro that has both indoor and outdoor seating. It's always nice sitting outside in warmer weather. Joséphine is located on Le Plateau Mont-Royal and is just charming. Their specialty is in both fish and seafood dishes. This bistro does not disappoint as the staff is friendly and their drinks are quite good. I noticed that diners all around me, had the cold seafood platter which came in different sizes. So for me, a must try! For starters I had a small cold seafood platter which had two kinds of oysters, fresh salmon as well as large cocktail shrimp. Also, an order of calamari. We had lobster ravioli, duck confit pappardelle and moules frites (mussels and fries) for our entrees. It was all so so fresh and incredible tasting. Every morsel was eaten, and our plates clean. If you are craving delicious seafood, then you should check this place out!

Yelp
All I was seeking was an attractive place from which to enjoy a glass of Prosecco but once I was sitting at one of the tables out front the ambiance overtook me. I asked to see a menu then ordered something to share (as in "we'll have dinner elsewhere") and before I knew it, I was full, happy, hadn't left my seat, and the evening was over. Welcome to night one in Montreal. With it's twinkly lights and street-facing al fresco seating, someone has turned Josephine into one of the more attractive offerings along this stretch of Rue Saint-Denis. I'd considered several other spots on the same stretch of road but Josephine got my vote. It felt very Parisian in its elegant simplicity. The kitchen here creates artful dishes. Sashimi Crudo was pretty as a painting and subtle in its flavors. A Grilled Artichoke was so lovely that it caused me to order up a side of Focaccia to mop up anything that might've otherwise been left on my plate. The service here is friendly and approachable which came as a bit of a welcome surprise in a place whose kitchen is clearly big league. As I left it was suggested that we'd certainly be back again but Montreal is a big city; maybe next time.

Yelp
We made a reservation for a quick bite before seeing jazz down the street. We were seated quickly and when we told the waitress that we were in a hurry, she gladly accommodated. I ordered mussels and frites and my partner ordered beef carpaccio with fried oysters. We both enjoyed our meal with a class of wine.

Yelp
Stopped here for a drink before dinner. Wished we had stayed for dinner! Shared raw oysters of the day which were delicious and prompt. Drinks were fantastic and Thomas the bartender was lovely with recommendations for both drinks, oysters, and bars in the area. Will definitely return.

Yelp
We're a little bit biased, with our daughter's name a variation on this but I also searched for a stellar seafood restaurant in Montreal and this was it. We loved the laid back neighborhood vibe with sophisticated drinks and delicious food. Calamari, oysters, shrimp all were fantastic!

Yelp
4.5/5 Came here for a date night and we ordered the following dishes: Raw oyster The sauce that it came with was great. We especially enjoyed the Fortune bay oysters. It was way better than the oyster they had on the menu. Lobster pasta We had to get double the lobster for this. Not sure if it was double but there were good chunks of lobsters in the dish and the whole combination of mushrooms, lobster, and tagliatelle was just perfect. I'm normally a saucy guy but it haf the perfect amount and the pasta was cooked perfectly. Mussels+fries Both the mussels and fries were great. The mussels were slightly on the smaller side and there were a couple mussel shells without any mussels in them (or in the bottom) but we thought the combination of the sauce of mussels were great. Since the sauce of the pasta and the mussels were so good, we decided to order some bread to dip it in. Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed by the bread as it was cold, stale, and very mediocre (at best). Regardless, sipping on white wine and eating these dishes were such a great experience. And lastly, the service was great and prompt. I would definitely recommend this place for a nice date night.

Yelp
Josephine is a nice, trendy restaurant in the Plateau and they serve great seafood. We tried a variety of different dishes which were all high quality and tasty: -Seafood Platter: lots of different things to munch on here, including shrimps, clams, mussels, and oysters - refreshing taste and good quality -Crudo of the Day and Fish of the Day: also fresh and tasty - nice and light, doesn't make you feel too full -Scallops: This one was only OK. I did not love the accompaniment it came with, and it felt like the serving size was a little small comparatively speaking. That said, quality of the scallops themselves was good and it looked like the chef(s) put a lot of care into the preparation of the dish. If you are ever in the plateau or want some nice seafood, I would recommend stopping by here. It didn't totally blow me away but it's a nice restaurant with lots of cool dishes to satisfy a seafood lover.

Yelp
Seated at 730, left at 930. Waited over a half hour for oysters and mushrooms with ricotta. The oysters were good but the mushroom dish lacked flavor. After over an hour for our mains my wife got the monkfish (catch of the day) which was in a sauce that tasted like butter (lacked citrus or salt) I ordered the pogo which tasted like fish sticks. Left hungry - positives are the staff is friendly and apologetic about the long wait for food. The one cocktail we ordered was very good

Yelp
Fantastic seafood find. The two of us were able to walk in on a Saturday night, so we got lucky. Definitely get the mushrooms, with potato foam bacon and herring, best dish of the night. Salmon Tartare was good. Seabass was the catch of the day, well-prepared plate with preserved lemon and bright greens to cut/pair with the rich fish. The service was good, but erradict. Starters came out immediately but mains took a while, had to ask. Wines by the glass were pretty limited for what that is worth.

Yelp
I came here with a group of coworkers on a Friday night at around 8 pm. The place was relatively empty and we got seated immediately. The servers were friendly and the food was very good. I ordered the red snapper grilled whole fish that came with chermoula, falafel, labneh, and turnip. I found the falafel a little too hard but the fish was very fresh and was grilled to perfection. Overall, I find this place a little expensive but the ambiance, service, and quality of ingredients used was very good.

Yelp
Had a wonderful meal here. We still think about the tomato salad appetizer. Food was excellent, the staff was attentive and created a warm, familial atmosphere. Love this restaurant.

Yelp
I wanted to try this place for a while and Mother's day was a perfect occasion to order their seafood platter for 2 and some squid gnocchi. The process was simple and fast, we placed the order and came to pick it up when it was ready. I must say that despite the fact that everything now comes in plastic containers since it's a Covid take out period, their presentation of the seafood was on point. The sauce on the gnocchi was simple delicious. I completely understand why this place has high reviews. And guess what? I'll be ordering from them again soon!

Yelp
Come during mtl à table!! The first service is a little salty but overall very good, my fav is the main course - it's really delicious and the seafoods are fresh!! For the dessert I ordered the chocolate tart, it combines coffee with chocolate, so if you don't want something too sweet you will no doubt enjoy it!! And don't forget to add one cup of latte later :) Atmosphere is quiet and staffs are helpful and patient, location is near the bus stop/metro so transportation is also convenient. If you are a seafood lover plz come!

Yelp
I would like to thank Josephine and the staff for the excellent service we had tonight. Their special offer on Wednesdays is 1$ oysters and 5$ Aperol Spritz. They have a beautiful orange terrasse and the indoor seating is cozy as well with plants hanging from the ceiling and white tiles everywhere. The Aperols were very good, the oysters were to die for, as well as the vinegar sauce to accompany them. The scallop entry was good, they were grilled to perfection and tasted great, although the plate was slightly expensive (15$). We also had a grilled octopus salad that apparently was a newer addition to their menu. We told them that the vinaigrette needed something extra, as the salad was a little bland. They were comprehensive and welcomed our criticism very well. Overall, the experience was good! We ordered the oysters after the entrées and they took a fairly long time to arrive. We in fact got a little bit impatient because of that. However, our waitress and the chef were generous enough to offer them for free because of the wait! We also got free shots, which was very appreciated. The service was definitely exemplary. I would definitely recommend this place on Wednesdays and for the oysters! The seafood is very good and they have a lovely staff. It would be the perfect restaurant for a date as well!

Yelp
My boss recommended me this restaurant so my boyfriend and I went on Saturday night. We managed to get a table last minute. The restaurant was not very busy. It is a very nice looking restaurant... white walls and tons of plants. My boyfriend and I had a glass of white wine followed by the grilled octopus appetizer and the homemade bread with three butters. We basically ordered everything the waitress recommended. The grilled octopus was good but now wow. It also had white beans and black sauce around it. The bread was so soft! I don't usually eat bread but it was so good that I had two pieces. The bread was accompanied by three butters: a caviar butter, a salted butter and a smoky butter. The caviar was my favorite but the smoky butter was my boyfriend's favorite. For mains my boyfriend had the Zarzuela de pescado y mariscos. It tasted very Spanish to me. The dish was filled with seafood: cod fish, mussels, clams, and calamari. The sauce was a bit spicy and tomato based with pieces of almonds and chorizo. I had the seared scallops main with squash cavatelli, mussels, mushrooms, solid brown butter and pine nuts. This dish was really delicious!! I preferred it to the Zarzuela hands down. We were too full for dessert and nothing on the dessert menu appealed to us. By the time we finished our meal they were closing up the restaurant anyway. This restaurant met my expectations. I definitely recommend it. The seafood is really good. Normally I would order the meat but the seafood is where it is at!

Yelp
Really great all-around experience on a chilly Saturday night. It was a beef heavy week in Montreal, so we searched for seafood and this place lived up to its photos and reviews. The space itself is beautiful, white and fresh. A small cocktail menu had a few choices and it's wine list is extensive with some interesting selections. Our appetizers included a mushroom mezze luna pasta and shellfish with pork belly. Both were excellent. The waitress did a great job describing the Mediterranean Sea bass for two, served Lebanese style, so we went that route. It's was really superb, full of flavor and cooked perfectly. A small and unique ginger pot de creme was a great was to end the meal. Service was friendly and efficient.

Yelp
Very good seafood restaurant. Cons are a relatively spartan decor, relatively small menu, distant location, less than a "happening vibe". Pros are everything else. Food was excellent. Service was warm and unpretentious. You must like most seafood or you will have very few options.

Ana C.

Yelp
We tried the salmon tartare, the mushrooms and calamari. It was all very good, specially the mushrooms with ricotta.

Yelp
Think this is my first 2 stars review on Yelp and the reason is, I found a hair doesn't belong to me in my order...We are humans and we make mistakes but this is unacceptable to me especially during the pandemic.

Yelp
Saw the wonderful ratings and the fact you are wheelchair accessible in a city that is a bit difficult for the disabled. We got There early and let us have a seat and a drink until they opened. The food was amazing, and they were super helpful with all of my pain in the derrière food allergies. Thank you for making our trip to Montreal memorable.

Yelp
We'd been in a roadtrip around East Canada, and this restaurant is is the top two of the places we'd eaten. Excellent ambiance, cool music, awesome servers, and the food is spectacular. We tried different appetizers, and all of them were excellent. It doesn't matter if you go for the octopus, the sweetbreads and escargots, or the scallops, you won't be disappointed. All were superb.

Yelp
I booked a table for 17 people on a Sunday evening. The booking was made at least 3 hours before arrival. The food was great. All of it. The downside? They were out of so many things on the menu. The food all took about an hour to get served. The place was not even halfway packed. All night the waiter's excuse for the absence of a few items on the menu and the long wait for food was that they "were not ready for such a big group". You had a 3 hour lead time for the kitchen to prep. The 17 of us represented 2/3 of all your guests that evening. No excuse for such a bad performance by the kitchen.

Meg K.

Yelp
Came for dinner with my boyfriend for 830, the Restaurant was quite full. The initial service was very good and our waitress was amazing. We started off with the burrata (very pretty, has strawberries which were very yummy) and salmon tartar ( amazing, little spicy, great textures) and for main we had the octopus entree (much bigger than expected) and the lobster linguine (enjoyed this plate the least but was still very good and full of flavour, must like mushroom). We also got a plate of fries. For drinks I had a glass of Chardonnay and my boyfriend had one of their special cocktails which was a type of grapefruit drink. Overall easy 9/10! Will definitely return on a Tuesday or Wednesday when they have their specials.

Yelp
We decided to try it because the place we were looking for was closed. It looked very casual but elegant from the outside. It was a pleasant experience overall. The main dish was amazing although, considering it's a seafood bar and resto, the menu needs more variety, especially on the main courses section. There is only one dish with fish. Having said that, there were some weakness. The appetizer, the tartare de salmon, lacked some flavor and the portion was really really small and the signature cocktail has no alcohol on it. It sure was refreshing but 14 dollars for a limonade is a bit overpriced. Over all we enjoyed the experience and the service. It's a place with great potential but it needs some adjustments.

Yelp
This was by far the BEST food I had during my 5-day trip to Montreal and Quebec! I had the entrecôte with bone marrow, mash potatoes, fried broccoli and mushrooms (either chanterelle or oyster, not sure). It came with a mustard based sauce that I requested on the side. If Inever come nack to Montreal I am 100% coming back here!

Yelp
This was a pleasant surprise for a Sunday morning. The scones were very good and my chicken and Walden's were delicious. A great brunch spot. The waitress was knowledgeable about the menu and great recommendations. We will return.

Yelp
We came on on a Saturday night. The service was very nice. The food was flavorful, I would recommend the hen and clams. The food did take over 30 minutes to come out, but worth the wait. However, the gentalman next to us did not think so. He was there once we sat down and our whole table received food before him. He definitely let the waiter know and tried to get as much free stuff as he could from the situation.

Yelp
This is a nice neighborhood bistro with Quebec-influenced comfort food. They have a nice selection of beers, including some great local selections. Service is great with a fun waitstaff. They just remodeled to make the interior brighter and more welcoming.
