On the Grid : Josephine

"Josephine’s cozy interiors are as good as they come, and their food is even better. Chef Andrew Little, a Pennsylvania transplant, is constantly cooking up imaginative dishes alongside elevated comfort food staples. Try the brussels sprouts, the duck wings, or the just drop in for a few specialty cocktails. Josephine is an elegant hang without the fuss. Cheers to Justin Chesney for the mouth watering photography." - Peck & Company

Boston Restaurant Openings April 2023 | Eater Boston

"Chef Michael Scelfo has opened an Italian spot called Josephine at the Cambria Hotel in Somerville; Scelfo, who runs Alden & Harlow, Waypoint, and Longfellow Bar—restaurants where former staffers have accused upper management of sexual harassment and staff mistreatment—has never publicly responded to those workplace misconduct allegations." - Erika Adams

News of Chef Michael Scelfo’s New Restaurant Josephine Ignites Major Industry Backlash | Eater Boston

"The planned new restaurant set to open inside a Somerville hotel became the immediate flashpoint for renewed scrutiny after reporting about the chef’s involvement sparked a deluge of industry criticism. Former employees’ 2020 allegations of sexual harassment, racism and other mistreatment at the chef’s restaurants were central to the backlash, and the chef’s 2020 staff letter pledging zero tolerance was widely viewed as insufficient. Responses among hospitality professionals were divided: some publicly condemned the project in support of workers who spoke out, while the incoming bar director for the new spot defended the chef, recounting personal accommodation during a family medical crisis and warning about the impact on hundreds of staff livelihoods. The chef declined to comment on the record for the most recent coverage, and at least one outlet pursued reporting on the earlier allegations but did not publish a follow-up." - Erika Adams

Acclaimed Boston Chef Michael Scelfo to Open a New Restaurant in Somerville | Eater Boston

"Opening inside Somerville's Cambria Hotel at 515 Somerville Avenue this spring, I report that Josephine will be an Italian restaurant centered on deep- and thin-crust pizzas, Roman street snacks, and recipes drawn from Michael Scelfo’s Italian American upbringing. The menu will be rounded out with what Scelfo describes as Italian classics inspired by family dinners, generational cooking, and his travels. The kitchen will be led by Alden & Harlow alums Stephanie Barrett and Owen Macca, the bar—stocked with Italian classics and offering martini service—will be run by Welitom Ramos, and Sydnie Loboda will lead dining room operations. Josephine marks Scelfo’s fourth restaurant and his first project outside Cambridge, slated to open in March 2023, but its launch has drawn controversy: Scelfo previously faced misconduct allegations from former staffers in 2020, and some Boston-area chefs expressed outrage at his resurfacing in the news with a new project." - Erika Adams

Google
5 out of 5 stars for Josephine! Dined on a Sunday evening around 6pm without a reservation. Both the food and our server were great and I love that they have martinis on draft. We ordered a chicken Caesar salad, sausage rigatoni, and hot honey/pepperoni pizza. The salad was chilled and crisp, perfect for a hot day and the rigatoni and pizza were both delicious and substantial portions. Looking forward to going back!

We came for Dine Out Boston and had an unforgettable meal. I’ve been to a lot of restaurant week prix fixe meals, and never had such a good experience. Oscar and all the staff were delightful and attentive, the space was airy and beautiful, and every single dish we ate was unbelievably delicious. I will definitely be coming back!

I was a little skeptical at first since it's attached to the hotel, but Josephine's is worth a visit. The food was delicious, and we had great service. I only wished we had a heads up that the food portions were family style (I may have overlooked it on the menu somewhere). We weren't upset though because everything was so good. We ordered the chicken parm and deep dish pizza. I also had an aperol spritz, which was good. I knew when thr foccacia we ordered came out that everything would be good. It was fresh, warm, and soft. Everything was so good. They had a high chair but no kids placemats (fine with us - we come prepared). They verbally offered a kids menu. I wouldn't describe it as kid friendly necessarily since it isn't very casual, but they accommodated the kids well. Everything was great. I would recommend eating here while you're in the area.

Google
Love the outline of the restaurant, staff are always accommodating and great food!! The house-made mozzarella sticks are a must. I wish I took more photos of the food but I’ve attached one to show how good the presentation is as well! 10/10 overall

Google
the waiters were very speedy and accommodating (as we were in a hurry) and i had some really good rigatoni with vodka sauce. however, the chicken caesar salad was even better with the acidic lemon + caesar dressing and the perfectly crisp croutons 🔥. the whole place was very clean in general.

Google
I loved my experience here. It was lunch time on a weekday so we were quickly seated outside. Loved the indoor outdoor feel when the doors were open. We got spritzes, suppli, and the "mortazza" sandwiches. Finished with tiramisu which was unique but delicious. Every bite was SOO good and even my leftovers held up so well. I felt the food was reasonably priced. Service was a little slow because it looked like there was only one or two waitstaff but it didn't bother us. Looking forward to returning with my best friend who LOVES Italian food!!

Google
I was disappointed by the food, but the service and ambience were very nice. The pizzas were heavy on the cheese and light on sauce, and the menu ingredient of basil for the caprese pizza was some reason substituted for pesto. The spaghetti with meatballs was a bit too sweet and the ribs lacked soul. Overall a nice atmosphere with attentive and accommodating service with room for improvement on the dishes.

Google
Amazed every time I come here how good it is! The drinks are so well crafted and the food is incredible. Management and staff is so knowledgeable and welcoming.

Yelp
Ambiance: beautifully decorated, chic, clean interior. Had a Parisian feel. Service: came for lunch Monday so the place was empty (perfect), the waiter and manager were very attentive and charming. Food! : had the burger (medium)...it was EVERYTHING! Juicy! Full of flavor! Mouthwatering! Definitely going back!

Yelp
This was my second visit to Josephine. I first dined there a few months ago, and I sat waiting for my order while the rest of my table ate their's. I asked our server about the status of my food, and was told that they were short staffed in the kitchen and it would be up soon. I finally received my order when everyone else was ready to order dessert. This wasn't a great experience, but I wrote it off as a one time problem. We decided to give them another chance, and we met friends at the bar tonight. We ordered drinks and some simple food, and once again, I sat waiting while the others dined. After 15 minutes or so, I finally flagged down the bartender and asked about my order. She gruffly told me that the food didn't always come out at the same time and that it would be out soon. I told her that the rest of our party was almost done with their food and asked her to cancel the order. She again told me that it would be out soon, so I let it go. I gave it 5-10 more minutes, and asked again, only to be told the same thing again, and in a very passive aggressive tone. I never once spoke angrily to the bartender - I just wanted my food, as it had been 20-25 minutes since I ordered and everyone else was finishing up. I told her that I needed to cancel it, and again, the same nasty passive aggressive tone and total lack of any care. Management - have you trained your staff? This is definitely not acceptable. Really, really bad service.

Yelp
Summary: great spot for drinks with nice interior and friendly wait staff. Food falls short of expectations. Josephine is a cute spot with Italian inspired food about .5 miles from union sq. Their menu highlights are the pizzas (deep dish and thin crust), pastas, main and supplis (large arancinis). Their drinks menu is extensive and creative. The cocktails are thoughtful and delicious, and they even have 3 mocktails that go above and beyond spritzed juice. I had the black vinegar mocktail and it was so creative and delicious. For food, we had a caesar salad with anchovies, the clam spaghetti and the mushroom pizza. In my opinion, at these price points, the food simply was not good enough. The caesar salad was a good portion, but the flavor balance was off. It was too acidic, and there was more cheese on it than was pleasant. It was basically sour lettuce with cheese (which I get some people would really love, but I don't think it qualifies as a caesar at that point) The pizza was advertised as thin crust (I was thinking napoli style thin crust), but it really was just a regular pizza that was not a deep dish. The dough itself was chewy and heavy. The inside was undercooked, even through the crust had a good char. The toppings were fine. The clam spaghetti was my least favorite. The clams didn't taste completely fresh and the pasta was overcooked to the point it was mushy. Overall, I think they could have paced the dishes better as well. We shared all three dishes between three people (which the server recommended). Pizza and pasta are both dishes you'd want to enjoy hot and fresh, but by bringing out everything at once, some of the food went cold before we could try it all. I rated it a 3, because I likely would not come back unless somebody insisted. We spent about $120 including tip, although I wish I could give a 3.5 for the friendly wait staff.

Yelp
Lovely patio and space. Lots of good foot options! The pizza wasn't exactly what you'd expect for like Chicago deep dish but I think they lean more into Detroit style. Honestly it was tasty!

Yelp
So excited about this addition to the Somerville restaurant scene! I'm a big fan of Waypoint and Alden & Harlow, so I knew I had to try Josephine when I found out the same chef is behind it. First things first, the space is stunning. The decor is super chic, and it's not a small space, but it still manages to feel cozy and intimate. There's a huge bar stretching across one side of the room. They were running a bit behind when we arrived for our reservation, so we grabbed a spot there while we waited. I was immediately sold on Josephine when I opened the drink menu and discovered draft martinis with a whole list of fun customizations. My husband and I both went with draft dirty martinis; I opted for the blue cheese olives and he chose the pecorino and calabrian chili olives (which were definitely our favorite). Warning that the blue cheese ones are extremelyyyy smokey, so if you're not into that, I'd skip 'em. The martini itself was great, I'd definitely order it again. Once we were seated, we ordered the Burrata & Smashed Avocado (the puffed rice and calabrian chili on this...chef's kiss) to start followed by the Joseph's Dry Aged Burger and Carbonara. For a pizza place, this spot makes a darn good burger, the focaccia bun was unreal. The carbonara was nothing special unfortunately, I'd probably skip it and check out some of the other spaghetti or pizza instead. There was some confusion with our check at the end of the meal, they actually had to correct it twice, but ended up giving us a small discount as a result so I won't hold it against them. Can't wait to come back soon to try some of the pizzas...and for more martinis :)

Yelp
Josephine is a must try, as one of the best new restaurants in Somerville. Great vibes with chic decor and a unique menu. The menu is meant to be shared family style, so as a party of two, we ordered 2 appetizers and 2 entrees and left feeling extremely satisfied. Even with so many Italian restaurants around, I would recommend giving Josephine a try! What we drank: - Dirty Martini w/ Smoked Blue Cheese Olives (+$2). - Kings 189: Similar to a Negroni. Would get again! I'm always going to order cocktails with buzz words like fat-washed olive oil gin. What we ate: - Jo's Shrimp Cocktail: This is the only dish I wouldn't get again. It came with a 50/50 sauce, which I had never heard of. One half was cocktail sauce, but we were unable to identify the other half. While the shrimp and sauce were tasty, the value was not there. You only get 3 large shrimps for $22, which doesn't feel like enough. - Mozzarella Sticks: Fried to perfection served with delicious tomato sauce. - Garlic, Fresno Chile & Good Olive Oil Spaghetti: We're typically order red sauce , but I'm glad we tried this. I would get it again. - Joseph's Dry Aged Burger: The focaccia! The onion jam! Cooked to perfection this burger is a must try. Parking Tip: Limited public parking outside of or near the restaurant on a busy main road. Unless you're a Somerville resident with a parking sticker, you'd be better off Ubering.

Yelp
Surprisingly posh and dateworthy digs on Somerville Avenue just outside Union Square. Long bar. Lots of booths. Outdoor dining. Connected to a hotel. Parking not as tough as you might think. Two visits: a weekend brunch and a weekday lunch. Smoked Wings: Very tinted red color and deep wood flavor with spiciness from the rub and a very light coating of sauce. Visibly overcooked, with extra crisp exteriors, shrunken size, and pretty dry interiors. Bones pulled out of the flats easily. Decent flavor otherwise, but having no moisture beyond the sauce was rough. Unfortunate about the dryness. More unfortunately, this was my appetizer on my first visit, but delivered well after the entree. Melon Salad: Elegantly plated and beautifully presented, a feast for the eyes. High quality ingredients and tasty. Good use of olive oil, puréed peppers, herbs, abd seasonings. This was for my wife but I can see getting that myself too. Mushroom Wood Fired Pizza: Not as leopard-spotted as hoped, but good looking crust, and the mushrooms (my nemesis) actually seemed doable: crisp and vinegar soaked. Crumbly Fontina cheese. Surprisingly, no tomato. Nice finishing oil. This was also my wife's (she of little appetite), but I tried a slice and really liked it. Great balance of flavors, great contrast in the crust between crunchy exterior and chew interior. Neither fluffy nor dense; more of a midground density. All things considered, a win. I later saw an egg yolk carbonara style pizza with cubed guanciale (bacon) that looked great, so it was the target on the next visit. "Cacio-Nara" Wood Fired Pizza: This unusual number has reggiano crema, egg yolk drizzle, and candied black peppercorns, with the option to add guanciale for an xtra $5. This was the pizza I saw the previous time and well worth the extra $5, though that egg yolk drizzle was equally responsible for the wow factor. Imagine peppery pasta carbonara in pizza form, will all of the crunchiness, silkiness and fattiness, but with the wood cooked chewy pizza crust. It's a must-try if you love bacon, experimentation, or both. Dry Aged Burger: This was the main draw on the two visits that got me in here, and both times it impressed, starting with a pleasing visual. Char from grilling, cooked to requested temperature, great color, thin melted cheese, creamy condiment. Roll was a focaccia, I believe cooked in house, and different on the two visits: a higher quality version of an English muffin on visit 1 and a more traditional focaccia with aromatic rosemary on visit 2. This burger felt as good as it looked, with pink, flowing juices both times. Taste was very solid, not as strongly aged in flavor but nicely gamey and very good beefiness. Not much seasoning, but overall very, very good. Definitely not top 5 all time in Boston but probably top 10 all time and easily top 5 among burgers available now. Two square logs of fried potato on the plate joined the burger on the weekend brunch version. Service on both visits was well intended but a little distant. Weird how an app would come out so much later than the entree, but things happen and aside from that one app, the food was not only good, but different, creative, and excited. Even with the minor kinks, I'm excited to go back.

Yelp
What a wonderful spot for great pizza, burgers, and other brunch items! Their dining area is spacious, and the staff are attentive. For pizza, we've tried the Frank's White 2.0 Clam, Cacio Nara, and Tito's Favorito (vodka sauce & sausage). Our favorite so far has been the Cacio Nara. Its decadent reggiano crema and egg yolk drizzle are nicely balanced out by the crunch of its thin wood fired crust. For other brunch items, we've also tried the ricotta pancakes and dry-aged burger. They're both good, but the burger especially stands out. We love that it comes with focaccia buns and onion jam, and our only complaint is that it costs $19 but doesn't include a side (like fries, potatoes, or salad). Even on the weekends, they aren't too busy during brunch hours. There's no need to make a reservation, and there's plenty of street parking nearby. We've only been here for brunch so far but would love to try their dinner menu soon.

Yelp
Second time coming and food, quality, and service were all consistent. Restaurant is inside Cambria hotel. We've been lucky to find meter street parking nearby. Nice modern decor inside. Great spot with friends or date night. We got the pork ribs with hot honey (flavorful, not too spicy), warm focaccia with canned anchovies and homemade butter (anchovies went well with the bread and not too fishy), hashbrown sticks had the perfect crunch, deep dish spiced roni (never disappoints and makes a great leftover) - deep dish takes 30 mins to make, so put it in first before your other orders, if you're hungry, their chicken parm was cooked to perfection but they are huge (can feed 4). If you have room for dessert - their olive oil cake is delicious (dense, can be shared). Our server was very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Which made the experience that much better.

Yelp
I used to live a block away from Josephine, and uh, tbh, I would've never went to Josephine's LOL. It's a clear gentrification of Somerville and it really hurt me to see this overly priced pizza/Italian restaurant right next to good ol' Wings Over. *record scratch* so how'd I end up here? Begrudgingly for my friend's birthday... I will have to say, the food is pretty good here. We got the clam pizza, and it's probably the second best one Ive ever had next to Franks Pepe. The flavor was great and not fishy at all. However, the crust was way too doughy and was not charred enough on the bottom. The carbonara also had incredible flavor. It was creamy, fatty, rich, and salty. I just felt like the portion size was half of that of any other Italian spot. The service and flow of the restaurant was also a little strange. I felt like our group was kind of ignored. I also didn't really like how all the dishes coming out way ahead of another - it doesn't really work with these dishes since the portion were small; one person would be done with their pasta and another person would just start.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try Josephine for a while now, and recently we had a friend who wanted to go too... so it worked out. We got a salad and two pizzas- one original deep dish and one coppa thin crust. I wasn't a big fan of the deep dish- just was too salty and the cheese was kind of rubbery. The thin crust was delectable, and I wish we'd gotten two of them. The salad was great, too. We ordered a slice of the chocolate cake for dessert, which was dry and a bit boring. Nice ambiance, and there was so much more on the menu we wanted to try. I'd come back again to mix it up, but I wouldn't get the deep dish or cake again.

Yelp
I am on a mission to try out all the artisanal pizza in Boston area and I have been wanting to try out Josephine for awhile as I drive by it quite often. The establishment is very inviting with a modern yet has the Italian rustic pizza parlor in the heart of Somerville. It is connected with Cambria hotel so it does have that clean, modern look. We came without a reservation on a weekend and we were sat without any trouble. The service was good with attentiveness and recommendations from the serving staff. Didn't have to wait too long for food and drinks. We ordered the Caesar salad to start and I will say there was nothing special about the salad but it did get the job done in satiating our craving. Good to share between two and four people. We ended up getting two pizzas, one plain cheese and a clam. The doughs on the pizza were fantastic and it kept the shape and the contents of the pizza without any issues even with the pizza coming in piping hot. The dough had a nice crunch with a bit of airiness. The favor for me just didn't cut it with the pizzas. To me there was too much salt overpowering the pizzas. Overall, not a bad place if you are in the mood for better pizza than your local stores. The price point could be better as these are pretty expensive slices.

Yelp
Cute new Italian place with a delicious menu. Recommend going for groups because items will come out as they go - so eating family style is best. I was here with a party of 5 and got to try several things on the menu. Overall it was a great meal, and I loved that it wasn't overly loud or dark / bar scene. - NY strip was so good, with their butter and seasoning. Highly recommend splitting with a group - carbonara spaghetti hit the spot. cheesy and cooked well - burger was unique with the focaccia buns. I loved the onion jam and the buns but the burger itself was okay. It was $20 but didn't come with any sides. - crispy rice balls: we tried a few but the mushroom one was our favorite. The sausage version was too salty and the chicken parm was just ok - coopa pizza was good! Topped with lots of burrata and with a crispy crust. - zeppelins- while it took forever for them to come out, this dessert was so good. Light and airy on the inside but crispy outside covered in powdered sugar.

Yelp
My wife and I decided to switch things up a bit and head to Josephine for our date night, lured by good reviews and the promise of a great ambiance. Our first impression was pretty positive, despite the tricky parking situation. Thankfully, the valet service, tucked beside the hotel the restaurant is attached to, came to our rescue, though at a small fee of $15. As we strolled through the hotel lobby into Josephine, we were met with friendly smiles and quickly shown to our table. We chose to sit outside, enjoying the cozy vibe under the warm heaters. Just a heads up, a jacket might be your best friend if the wind decides to pick up. Our adventure began with a pair of mocktails. Though the names slipped our minds, the flavors sure didn't, especially the slightly sour kick of the third one which we thoroughly enjoyed. We started off with mozzarella sticks and oven-roasted wings. The wings were the star with a sweet and smoky taste topped off with a crispy skin. However, two of them were a bit undercooked, a small glitch in an otherwise tasty beginning. Moving onto the mains, I went for the La Frieda Dry Aged New York Strip. It arrived warm, not hot, and was a tad too salty for my taste. It was cooked medium rare, not medium as I'd requested. A squeeze of lemon helped cut through the saltiness, but for the price, it fell a bit short of expectations. My wife, on the other hand, tried the deep dish Jo's classic. The 45-minute wait was a bit of a drag, and when it finally arrived, the crust was soggy and overflowing, though the mozzarella was a hit. To pass the time, we nibbled on some roasted olives with orange peel and chilis, which were a zesty delight. Dessert came in the form of Zeppole, but sadly, most of them were undercooked, hinting at perhaps too hot of an oil bath. The few that were cooked right were delicious, with a crispy crust that hinted at what could have been. We wrapped up the night with a cappuccino and a latte, both hitting the right notes, ending our culinary expedition on a warm and comforting note. All in all, Josephine offered a comfy setting with mostly yummy eats. Though there were a few misses in the kitchen, the flavors were on point and the service was friendly. The ambiance is definitely a big draw, and despite the hiccups, we're looking forward to giving it another shot, hoping next time the food hits the table hot and fully cooked to enjoy the full palate of flavors Josephine has to offer.

Yelp
Went to Josephine's for the first time last night. Gorgeous restaurant and it's a pretty decent size. It was so busy around our reservation time of 7:45pm. It was drizzling rain and about 50 degrees outside, but I picked outdoor seating so that's on me. They did say we could get a heater lamp by us, but when they sat us and we asked for it, they said they were out of propane. We were seated for 35 minutes before being greeted by our waitress. I understand it was busy, but she could have at least recognized that we were there. When she finally got to us, she told us they ran out of cups and could not give us water. It was pretty ridiculous. The food came out after 1 hour and it was good, but not sure I'd come back especially during peak times.

Yelp
Its was amazing! First, I would highly recommend making a reservation here. The food was amazing. It was three of us, and we shared a few items. we were missing one item and our server apologize for the mixup/mistake and she took it off the menu which was very sweet of her. It was very busy. We sat closer to the bar, and the bartender never stopped making martinis. My friend got the onion martini and loved it, it tasted like vodka to me. Inside was cute and not too loud. They had big tables for bigger parties and the bathrooms were fairly clean. I definitely recommend coming here hungry! Definitely ask for more marinara sauce with the mozzarella sticks.

Yelp
We LOVED josephine! Such a great date spot. We sat outside, and ordered the "I think we're alone now" pizza, warm focaccia, carbonara, chicken parm crispy rice suppli, and farm potato white truffle crispy rice suppli. The carbonara was one of the BEST I've ever eaten. It wasn't too cheesy or salty. I also really liked the focaccia. The pizza wasn't too oily, which is always good. Service was really great, our server was super nice. I would def come back someday to get the carbonara again.

Yelp
The first time I went to Josephine, I had a great experience (Thursday night, not too busy). We walked in on a Friday at 8:45 and had a very different experience. It became clear that they were severely understaffed and we felt ignored for the entirety of our time there. We first got a seat at the bar and were basically ignored for an hour before we were sat at our table. When we checked on the table, the host told us 5 minutes so we didn't order food at the bar when the bartender finally came by. Five minutes was actually 25 and then when we were finally at our table, no one ever came by and after another 20 minutes we just left. Too bad because the food was good the first time I went and now I have no interest in going back.

Yelp
Came here for a brunch with 3 friends. I actually had never heard of it but was incredibly impressed with all of the food! The drink was delicious, but kinda pricy, so be aware! My favorite thing was the benedict, with the carbonara coming in a close second. Both were DELICIOUS and I immediately regretted not ordering for myself! A friend and I split the pizza, which we liked, but would probably not order again. I think some sort of meat on it would have elevated the flavors. Overall, really loved Josephine's. The inside is beautiful and spacious, which is great for dates or larger groups. Brunch time (late, albeit) was overall quiet, so I am interested to come for dinner and see how busy it can get.

Yelp
My family went to this restaurant with some friends while we were in town, and their pastas and suppli were so good. We also ordered some appetizers which were excellent as well. They're also very kid-friendly especially for an early dinner. Highly recommend checking them out for either a casual dinner with a friend or for a family outing.

Yelp
After being back from a trip to Italy, we were craving for Italian and I must say Josephine does not disappoint. Obviously it is not traditional but the food is truly good! We came here for brunch once and I must say, their cacio nara pizza left us speechless at how good it was! The hash brown with chicken gravy was also equally delicious. We decided to come again for dinner, was quite disappointed by the pasta but their deep dish pizza was better than all the ones I had in Chicago. The space is lovely, bright during brunch and tons of seats! Service was also good. Our server was very friendly. Will definitely be back again.

Yelp
Recommend their "I THINK WE'RE ALONE NOW- Pepperoni" the hot honey makes the taste feel different but in good and not spicy at all! Love their "Caesar salad" was so fresh but their their "smoked garlic knots" was not good + it was burned so the taste felt bland & burned ,, Overall, the Service was goood and the place was beautiful def would come back for that pizza again and try different sides for sure

Yelp
This place was great for brunch! We got the eggs Benedict, hash browns, and pancakes. It was all 10/10 with great service. The environment was hip but welcoming to everyone. Really awesome spot to meetup for brunch when in town and if staying at the Cambria

Yelp
I went here in early December 2023 with my boss for a thanks for all you do/let's get to know each other meal after finding Josephine's through a Google search. Boy was I sorry I wasn't with one of my girls! The arancini and mushroom pizza were real winners. Our waitress was very hands on with helping us select a nice Sauvignon Blanc to go with our meal. Next trip to Josephine's is going to be with a friend so I can really enjoy the food. Great place!

Yelp
Service was awesome, fun to get a handful of small bites to share with friends. However, I underestimated the deep dish. Please share with friends or else you'll have it for 3 meals (not that that is a bad thing!)

Yelp
Looked these guys up on yelp , they're new in town so we decided to check it out . We were pleasantly surprised how awesome the cocktails and food was . The owners of Alden and Harlow in Cambridge have come up with another hit. The cocktails are exquisite, wife tried the mock tails and I tried the Negronis , the olive washed roni was amazing , this is not your mom and pop cocktail place , they definitely do a great job The food was really tasty , the focaccia was straigjt out of the oven , meatballs like I've never had before , the pizza was made from scratch ( it took 30 mins ) , the pasta was cooked to perfection. We got the olive oil cake for dessert and it didn't disappoint . If you're looking for a laidback yet classy place to go , definitely try these guys !

Yelp
I have been to Josephine's around 6 or 7 times since they opened! I can't say enough about the quality and FLAVOR of their food. If you like olives even a little, I highly recommend their roasted olives side. Their pizzas are incredible, especially the mushroom pizza. Their homemade pastas are yummy, the cocktails SO fun and creative! If you're into negronis, DEFINITELY try their Kings 189 which as an oil washed gin. If you're like me and enjoy mezcal, try the Luna Park! Also, the outdoor ambiance is so fun. Highly recommend this spot. My only small criticism is that a handful of times the service has been very slow (albeit kind!). They seem to get a little overwhelmed at times and it can be hard to track someone down to get the check or a new drink.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday night without a reservation and got seated right away at the bar outside which was great. They also had heaters outside so we didn't get cold at all. This restaurant is absolutely beautiful and ambiance is 10/10. Service was not great but I know this place is still relatively new and I still enjoyed my food + drinks. I ordered the cacio e Pepe pizza and aperol spritz. My friends ordered martinis which took over an hour to arrive due to some "issue" at the bar. The pizza also didn't come with any plates, napkins, utensils, etc. so we had to ask a couple times for that. And then at the end I was accidentally charged for someone else's tab. Thankfully they were able to fix everything and we didn't get charged for the drinks that took too long to arrive. The food was honestly so good I would give them a second chance!

Yelp
Like going to Bertucci's except the service is really, laughably quite terrible. And the wines are overpriced. Food was quite okay. Maybe my expectations were too high. With the plethora of amazing food in Somerville, let alone greater Boston, I just don't see myself returning here. I saw that the owner responded to a negative review and started it by saying, "I don't usually respond to negative reviews" - and let me just say, maybe you should. Maybe you should actually care about customers who have less than positive experiences at your new establishment. Restaurants can come and go pretty fast, I'd suggest trying to actually build good will with the patrons of your establishment.

Yelp
On the quest to find deep dish pizza in Boston I found myself trying Josephine. The pros: the restaurant is really pretty. If you're looking for an aesthetically pleasing place to host an event or go out with friends it fits the vibes The cons: the food is decently expensive but I was not particularly impressed with neither the pizza nor the pasta (we got the carbonara)

Yelp
10/10 on everything. Josephine is gorgeous my Godsister and I went there for dinner yesterday and it was amazing. We ordered a Cesar salad for the table and when I tell you that was the butter fried croutons was the best thing I've ever had in my life. Next was the garlic knots. AMAZING! Fresh and delish just wasn't the biggest fan of the sauce. Lastly was the pizza. We had the Jo's Classic. I'm from New Haven and I know pizza and this was a delicious ass pizza. Overall incredible restaurant and I'll go again.

Yelp
Insanely good brunch. Don't know how this place isn't yet on every list for Boston. Love the focus on using the wood fire oven. Definitely try the hashbrowns. Eggs Benedict and ricotta pancakes are fantastic too.

Yelp
The pizza is worth a return trip. Dough is flavorful and chewy. We opted for the summer corn topping, which was bright and fresh. Seasonal panzanella sounded good on paper, but was dressed with too much oil and the featured stone fruit seemed like an afterthought. Suppli were overpowering--both flavors we picked were *way* too salty. Pastas were disappointing, but they weren't meant to be the star carb here. Skip it and just order another pizza.

Yelp
overall this restaurant was served some really good dishes, however they were quite expensive. They're still working out some kinks on the deep dish, after asking they explained why the crust and base was hard as a rock. which has to do with cooking the middle properly. I was disappointed in that, because it was hard to eat. The burger was fantastic. The ribs were overly fatty but still good. The atmosphere is pretty and overall our waiter was a sweetheart.

Yelp
This new restaurant screams perfect date location! The burger, which has received raving reviews on yelp, had a focaccia as the bun. I really loved that the bun had its own rosemary olive oil flavor. The beef was a perfect medium rare smothered in sweet onion jam and muenster cheese. I wish there was a layer below the patty to protect the bottom bread from soaking and I found myself reaching for the pickles because the burger was sweet that i needed something sharp to balance the flavors out. The fries (they look like sweet potatoes but they arent) are super crispy but was too salty for me. The cacio nara pizza was garlic heaven with lots of umami from the egg yolk. But needed a bit of red pepper flakes for me! I really liked the dough of the pizza. It was thin and had perfect amount of charr. The suppli is their version of the arancini and it was very crispy and had great proportion of risotto to cheese. Although it was delicious, I thought it wasnt really worth it. The asparagus was really tender and came with pickled ramps and shell bean vinaigrette which i really enjoyed. I think its more of a side but also not worth getting. Our server, Tom, was super attentive and knowledgeable! : 7/10 loved their unique take on each dish and their atmosphere. But, i probably wouldnt get the suppli or the asparagus next time. Would love to come back to try their cool cocktails.

Yelp
So good! Met the chef and many of the very professional staff. (Just because they're all so nice.) The room is so modern and beautiful. So many unusual preparations of classics. Make certain to ask about the specials. Unique and seasonal.

Yelp
Great service! Waitress did a good job of explaining portions and food. Large portions, and very good. Nice vibe, huge long bar.

Yelp
Amazing food, we can't get enough! Each time we go back we try something new and look forward to our next meal

Yelp
Arranged babysitting for the kids, and took my wife for her birthday last night. What a treat! Due to the sudden onset of an unexpected snow storm, we were happy to be able to pull into the Cambria hotel for valet parking (only $15 if dining at the restaurant!) rather than search for meter parking. The new modern space is so clean, bright, sparkling, and beautiful with all the black and white photos, red leather booths, and white marble; it immediately felt like a special night. Service was superb and everyone we interacted with was helpful and friendly. The cocktail list was long and intriguing, we wished we had Uber'ed to be able to sample more of the choices! One I'd like to especially highlight is the PATRALLA SOPRANA (vodka, lemon, black vinegar, sambuca, raspberries, and mint). It read like a crazy flavor combination I had to try, it came out a thick raspberry color and worked so well together the way the intricate flavors balanced each other, I loved it! Finally the food was all fantastic. We were a bit wary at first that the many carbie/cheesy choices sounded too heavy to try a lot of options, but there was no need to be afraid as the portions were well suited to not overwhelm and allow exploration. We started with the thin crust pepperoni pizza which had such delicately charred roni cups I could have ate that pizza forever. A chicken parm suppli (fried rice ball) came next to pace us into our pasta round, which was the best carbonara I've ever had. Was impressed with the taste of the guanciale, far superior to the usual pancetta or bacon commonly used. Lastly we had the special of the night, a chicken sausage pinwheel with farro that was DELICIOUS - I hope it graduates to the regular menu where it belongs, would definitely have it again and again! For dessert we had the zeppoli donuts which were just light and airy enough we did not burst our bellies. Thank you chef Scelfo for another fine entry to the Boston restaurant scene, and for another wonderful night out!

Yelp
I'm leaving this review because everything I had to eat here tonight but amazing, but mainly because our server Charlie was exceptional! Thank you, Charlie for making our experience at Josephine's so memorable and amazing!

Yelp
Probably my new favorite restaurant in Somerville. The ambiance and scene of the restaurant is just stunning. They've got great seating areas for tables, a great wide lovely bar and even their outdoor area feels great and you still feel like you're partly inside the restaurant. I actually sat indoors, outdoors and at the bar and all experiences were great. Service is good, but I can see it becoming great in the future. My first time there my waiter was clueless, but she was nice and I had to give her the benefit of the doubt that Josephine is still pretty new. I think they should have educated her a bit more along with all waiters since it is a pretty nice restaurant. My second waiter was a bit over the top, very charismatic, a bit much, but still made the experience enjoyable. The food was great. The pizza is why I came and all I can say is the dip dish is a must try. There were a couple of the side items I did try that were lacking a wow factor for me unfortunately, but hopefully the improve on those parts. Drinks were also amazing. Love that they have so many options as toppers for a dirty martini. Will definitely come back many more time in the future.

Yelp
Dined here last night (5/8/23) with three friends, sat outside on the roofed patio. The inside, surprisingly full, is quite loud, with no soft surfaces to dull the roar. The staff was attentive. Our waiter, Tom, was knowledgeable and generous in sharing it We split a deep dish mushroom pizza, a thin crust pepperoni, and a salad. Everything was very good; I preferred the thin crust. There are non-pizza items on the menu. Looking forward to exploring the menu.

Yelp
Suppli and Zeppole were good. There is a difference between charred and serving a burnt black bottom pizza. Cannot justify this by saying this is how we make it like they do in Italy.

Yelp
Good new restaurant in the Somerville area. The food was very good and the ambiance is very well done. Server was very nice but the wait for cocktails was ridiculous. No fault on the server but we ordered two martinis "on draft" and had to wait over 25 minutes for them to arrive. We got all three appetizers before we even got our drinks. During dinner we ordered another round and didn't receive them until after we got our desert. Since it is a new restaurant they are probably still working through some kinks. Overall great food and atmosphere, would recommend when they work through timing issues.

Yelp
I loved the interior of this place and while we only ordered takeout, I definitely would like to go back in person. The burger was gigantic and really flavorful. I appreciate the work the chef did to make it feel like a unique experience. My wife's pizza was enormous(I think she made it 3 meals) and there seemed to be equal in crafting something original with their pizza. Definitely worth a second adventure.

Yelp
For a hotel restaurant it's solid, but the food remains pretty greasy and not really a spot I'd go out of my way to get to. If I stayed in the hotel that's one thing, but I'm going to go to one of the many other pizza/bar type places in Somerville if I have the chance.

Yelp
Came in without a reservation on the 2nd weekend they were open and sat at the bar, had such an amazing time, staff was so nice and helpful and the food was unbelievable. Will absolutely be going back (specifically for the burger which is one of the best I've had)

Yelp
Came in for a reservation last Friday night. I was really excited to try out the deep dish pizza after hearing good things about the place. We were seated and served nothing but water for 30 minutes. No waiter approached our table, we asked "Will we be served anytime soon?" to the waitstaff that kept refilling our water, and were told twice "i'll check" and "soon" with a brushoff. The place wasn't even half full but it was really clear they have a waitstaff understaffing or table negligence issue. And this was for a booked reservation. Nobody came to start our order on Wine/Drinks, and after about 30 whole minutes of being ignored we got up, spoke to a manager about the issue, and left without eating. Hopefully this is just new-location growing pains, because it was a shame to see them really dropping the ball entirely on service. Extra things to consider: if you want a deep dish pizza there's a warning on the menu that it requires waiting 45 minutes to cook. The thing we didn't realize was that 45 minute pizza warning applies to also getting a waiter to come to your table, apparently.
