"Housed in a charming 1911 Craftsman bungalow, Flagstaff’s longest-running high-end restaurant has two indoor fireplaces for warmth and romance during colder months, as well as a meticulously landscaped patio for al fresco dining in the summer. A modern American comfort food menu includes brunch items like Korean beef lettuce wraps and bananas Foster French toast, while dinner selections include phyllo-wrapped baked Brie with orange-cardamom honey and achiote-smoked pork osso bucco with Tillamook green chile polenta. End the night on a dramatic note with limoncello cheesecake and flambéed strawberry-Cognac sauce." - Nikki Buchanan

We had a nice dinner at Josephine's. The crab cake as a appetizer was my favorite. I loved the spicy jalapenos sauce. Also the main course filet mignon convinced me, the meat was on a high quality level.

Looking for your new favorite restaurant in Flagstaff…. Josephine’s is at the top of the list. Seriously, We can not say enough wonderful things about Josephine’s. The food and service and atmosphere are unmatched and deserving of more than 5 stars. Every dish had impeccable flavor. The Halibut and short ribs were cooked to perfection and melted once it hit our mouth and the flavor was a culinary delight. We will be back and sharing our amazing experience with everyone we meet. Thank you Josephine’s for bringing quality food and customer service to Northern Arizona. Cheers!

Our innkeeper recommended this lovely dining spot and we were quite happy that we followed her advice. We visited Josephine's on a cold day in February, likely not the best month to showcase all that is Josephine's as it has some lovely outdoor spaces. We can imagine how charming it is with greenery and flowers. It was quite homey inside as it once was a home. We had eaten a late lunch so we only ordered the Caesar salad -- my husband had the calamari and added the crab cake on top of his salad. Their Caesar salad is absolutely unique and delicious. It was soo good. So was the service by our amiable waitress. I ordered a lemon drop martini and it was quite tasty and beautifully garnished. It was a great find.

Food was excellent. First time coming here from Sedona and we will be back. Ate the entrees and appetizers so fast, I forgot to take a photo. Calamari is good and the crab cakes were good too

This was our first trip here. My husband picked it for Fathers day. We are really grateful they made room for us without a reservation. For the most part it was very enjoyable. We were waiting for my MIL and daughter to join us so we ordered drinks and appetizer while we waited. Drinks came quick but we never got our appetizer and I was excited to try fried green tomatoes for the first time. We ordered our main food quickly after the rest joined us but did have to correct our waiter on fixing one of my daughters drinks and my MIL had to get silverware from another table. Our waiter was very attentive to the table next to us but didn't seem as interested in making sure we were set. It was clear my daughter HATED her food she ordered she only ate one bite and hung her head while crying quietly to herself. Not the restaurants fault by any means just still a little surprised it wasn't ever noted then again our waiter was pretty non existent. We all gave her parts of our meals instead and I tried eating some of her food. Which I will agree was not that great. She had gotten a salad and didn't know the meat needed ordered separately. I had no idea either. The rest of our food was fantastic I loved the eggs Benedict and my husbands salmon. My other daughter got the Banana Foster pancakes and those were incredible. The family next to us also added to a good experience. All in all it wasn't bad. It wasn't until n later we realized we didn't check if we got charged for our appetizer or not. I guess we will never know. Idk if we will be able to afford going back any time soon but minus our waiter being MIA and my daughters salad being... well ... just a lettuce 😅 it is definitely a place id recommend especially for a special event.

Yelp
We came here for our anniversary based on reviews and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere was very nice. Its in a old house that has been renovated. The food was amazing. Aaron did a great job taking care of us - very friendly and attentive. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I can't say enough wonderful things. We tried Josephine's for the first time last night- after living here for several years and not being impressed by the food in Flagstaff in general. However- Josephine's was absolutely the exception. Everything was fantastic. We were able to make an online reservation the same day. The restaurant is located in a gorgeous and well preserved historic home. We were in awe of the beautiful craftsmanship and architecture. We loved the nice cozy fire. The ONLY thing I'd say is it is a bit chilly if you're not in the main room by the hearth, so either request that room specifically or be prepared to bring a jacket if you get cold easily and plan to come here in the winter. The service was great- we were greeted immediately, had to wait a few minutes for a table to be cleared and three different people stopped by the host stand to make sure we were being helped. Our waitress was very friendly, polite, and had excellent recommendations. She was on-top of the service and didn't miss a beat. The food was SOOO GOOD. We were shocked by everything we tried. (Calamari, crab cakes appetizer, bacon wrapped filet, molten cake and crème brûlée) the flavors were excellent, the steak was cooked to perfection, the presentation was beautiful. The drinks were well done- they have an extensive wine list, but we opted to try the craft cocktails (yuzu mule, raspberry lemon drop, and passion martini) again, the flavors were lovely, the presentation was elegant and the service was efficient. We can't wait to come back! My only regret is that it took us so long to try this place.

Yelp
We had such an amazing experience at Josephine's and I cannot wait to revisit the next time we're in flagstaff. We made a pitstop in Flagstaff for one night before resuming on our cross country drive. Because we had a pet with us, it was important for us to find a restaurant that is pet friendly. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We were seated outside in a covered patio in December with heater blasted and twinkle lights. It was so cozy and inviting. Our pet knocked out the moment we arrived. The food was very flavorful and delicious, not overpowering. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality and freshness of the vegetables!

Yelp
Great service Had the sea bass special with yellow curry...couldn't taste a lick of curry and it was served over risotto...risotto good ...fish cooked perfectly odd pico served with it and way undercooked carrots and asparagus. $42

Yelp
Absolutely delightful experience. Food was five stars...hubby ordered fall off the bone short rib with cheesy polenta and I had a delectable cioppino filled with halibut, clams, mussels, big juicy shrimp all cooked to perfection. The chefs take pride in their work and it shows. Sweet hostess accommodated our reservation on short notice. Cozy older home with fireplaces lit and linen tablecloths. Kiera was a joy as a waitress and all service people stepped up to clear plates in a timely manner. Can't rate this dining experience highly enough.

Yelp
We had our Thanksgiving meal for the first time while visiting Flaggstaff here , and it was one of THE best thanksgiving meals ever!! From all the main dishes to the dessert everything was so amazing , but the pecan pie was THE best pecan pie I'd ever had truly amazing! Although it was a bit crowded, I would love to come back again to enjoy their delicious food!

Yelp
Very average experience. My wife and I ordered martinis and told our server we would like to enjoy our drinks before ordering dinner. She assured us she would delay putting the order in. That did not happen. As for the martinis, it looked like someone had taken a couple of sips out of them by the time they got to us (they were not full drinks). I ordered a vodka martini. I asked about olives and/or cocktail onions. Was told no onions and either 'regular' olives or blue cheese olives. I opted for the blue cheese olives. I was charged $2.50 for 2 blue cheese olives! Well, that is a first for me. We split a champagne vinaigrette salad (very good), my wife had the surf and turf Trifecta and I had the Filet. She won! I would not recommend the filet if what I had is indicative. Over tenderized and pretty dry. Just very ordinary. Everything else on the plate was very good! We were very much looking forward to a special night out and it was just ok. Felt we were rushed thru the experience.

Yelp
We saw that Josephine's had good reviews. We didn't have a reservation but they "fit us in" at a high top at the bar. We were excited that it was so busy even at 5pm! But unfortunately, the food was not good. We got a salad as well - it was sooooo small. The calamari was chewy and the fried tomatoes weren't cooked well and the dish was so dry. We couldn't wait to leave. Service was good. Prices were high, especially for bad food. Maple old fashion was well done.

Denise M.

Yelp
This is one of the nicest restaurants in Flagstaff. It's is in an old house--a plus in my book. There is a lovely patio with dining in front, and a seating area with a fire table of to the side. The food here is fantastic. The osso buco was soooo good. The surf and turf trifecta was even better. Process are on the higher end, but it's well worth it. This is a great first date place!

Zoya A.

Yelp
We were in Flagstaff for Labor Day weekend and had to stop and try this place, and it was worth it! The ambiance is so cozy but also a bit more elevated and fancy. The food was so fresh, the pesto sauce on the gnocchi was divine as well as the zoodles on top! We also tried the crab cakes and the shrimp which were equally delicious. The service was quick and everyone was so lovely! Definitely recommend to anyone in the area!

Yelp
Came here based on the recommendations from the locals. One person said it was his top 10, and it was on eater.com. Definitely had to check that out. From the outside in the dark, it was a bit eerie. It's quite different from what I pictured it to be. I think that in the daytime, it would be nicer, and when it gets to be warmer out, people can sit outside. The food came out really quickly, so it was very surprising. I got the spicy mule drink, which went well with my meal. The cordon Bleu chicken was fresh, flavorful, some hint of spice was added in, and it was delicious. Another main dish was the French onion braised ribs, which the waitress stated is the top dish that is ordered. I enjoyed it a lot and ate the entire dish without hesitation. The peach crisp dessert was really good! It had an oatmeal crust along with dulce de Leche ice cream. I can see why people like this restaurant.

Yelp
There's no reason not to go here if you are looking for an incredible meal and a delightful patio setting. This was my first time at Josephine's and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is located in a historic old house and has no shortage of charm. The interior is a bit small due to this fact, but they have a large and wonderful patio. This is a popular place so I would highly suggest making a reservation unless you don't mind a wait. The cocktail menu was succinct but there was something for everyone and the wine list had plenty of options. For an appetizer we got the queso and it was delightful, this is not your typical runny stringy queso (but don't get me wrong, all queso is great) but it was delicious and a great starter. My wife and I got the osso buco and the braised short rib (both gluten free). Both were absolutely phenomenal, melt-in-your-mouth dishes where the protein center piece was surrounded by a delicious cast of supporting vegetables, sauces, and potatoes or polenta respectively. For dessert we got the zeppoles (not gluten free, but they looked so good I had to have a bite even if it meant suffering the consequences) they were warm and crunchy but soft inside and paired delightfully with a sweet creamy sauce and fruit, highly recommend. TL;DR - If you're looking for a lovely evening out with friends or a loved one and don't mind spending a little more on dinner, you will be pleased with Josephine's. Bonus if it is a temperate night in Flagstaff and you can dine on the lovely patio.

Jamal F.

Yelp
Came by for lunch and picked the soup and a salad with champagne dressing. A great waiter welcomed us and helped us choose different dishes because of a food allergy. If you're around Flagstaff, you really should check out this nice little place.

Ellen D C.

Yelp
A visit to the Antelope Canyon lead us to 2 nights in Flagstaff. Next thing was of course checking Yelp for a place for dinner and hence we found ourself in this historic building which is a setting for a most endearing meal. The extremely courteous manager lead us to a table right by the fireplace. It was rainy and cold outside. We ordered the baked Brie which was deliciously dressed in sweet balsamic vinegar. Two different but equally fresh salads got us ready for our three entrees of Chicken Cordon Bluer, Surf & Turf and Braised Short Ribs. A peach crunch with gelato completes this wonderful dinning experience. With extra tips because the service was just so deserving. We left the place trying to decide if we have time for lunch there before flying out.

Vickie O.

Yelp
Josephine's was a delight. Hands up to the bartender, excellent dirty martini. Appreciated the wine recommendations with dinner. We had the calamari and brie as appetizers (excellent)! We had the short ribs, salmon, and Diablo shrimp.., everyone was happy with their main dish. Forgot to take pictures. We decided to eat outdoors, sitting area had nice lighting. The only downfall was the high traffic on Humphrey Street, which made conversation hard. Inside ambience seemed cozy. The Zeppola dessert was yummy and sharable. Josephine's tagline "Modern American Bistro" is truly what we experienced. Take a visit!

Ellie K.

Yelp
We went here for dinner while visiting Flagstaff and everything was perfect. Aaron was our waiter and he did an amazing job checking in on us, spacing the courses out and recommended the best items off the menu. Josephine's is a cute little spot in a historical house! The atmosphere and ambiance was great and the food was unbelievably delicious. It felt like a home cooked meal no matter what you got. All the food was made in house and the food was sourced locally. We got the sweet potato gnocchi with a side of vegetables, baklava Brie appetizer, limoncello cheesecake and bacon wrapped fillet mignon. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting and looking for a restaurant spot. We will be back for more!

Devon D.

Yelp
Very good food and beautiful dining inside or out. We had a delishious meal here and fine wine. My husband had the Brie to start and we also had the friend green tomatoes. I was not totally sold on the Green tomatoes, we are southerners and we know how they should taste, but we loved the Brie. It was also a large portion so plenty to share with 2 or 4. For dinner I had the short rib and yes it was delicious! My husband had the fish and it was very good too and the ortions were good. We had dessert and coffee and we loved dinner here!

Jan W.

Yelp
We cancelled our reservations at a different restaurant after our AirBnB host recommended Josephine's and we are so thankful for that recommendation! It was a memorable meal that we are still talking about a month later! We started with mocktails that were artfully made. It is a serious gift to make a mocktail feel and taste as special as an upscale cocktail and they did it at Josephines! Our food was top notch as well! We had the queso with mushrooms as an appetizer and the Osso Buca and the special of the night, pan seared halibut. Every bite was incredible! Service was excellent too! It has a romantic ambiance and we loved the outdoor dining experience. It was perfect to sit by a heater and enjoy a nice evening!

Jenna M.

Yelp
We have always had a great time. Good food and good service!! We will come back again. One of the best places in Flagstaff to eat.

Richard P.

Yelp
Great food and service. There were 4 of us that were trying Josephine's for the first time. Each of us left the restaurant completely satisfied and planning our return visit.

Yelp
The best brunches are a bit Sexy and eggy ;) Road trippin recently on my way to Flagstaff Arizona and stumbled upon this sweet little gem. Located just blocks from historic downtown, Josephine's Modern American Bistro is cozy & charming. We were seated right by the fireplace and started with their scrumptious zeppoles these bites were luscious, the perfect start to an incredible hearty brunch. Our two dishes "Josephine's & "Florentine" were AH-MAZ-ING....... so fresh and so satisfying. I couldn't have asked for a SEXIER food experience. Ciao

Erin G.

Yelp
Great ambiance and both the salmon and crab cakes were delicious. The chocolate pecan pie was delicious but very heavy on the chocolate.

Gretchen M.

Yelp
Celebrated my best friend's 60th and loved the food, service and atmosphere. We had several different small plates and salads. All very yummy!

Gregory N.

Yelp
Josephine's is a fantastic place to celebrate a special occasion in Flagstaff. The ambiance is quaint, the staff is friendly and professional. The food is priced as you would expect for a nicer restaurant, but the drinks are surprisingly affordable (relatively speaking). If you're getting a salad, spring for the champagne vinaigrette over the house salad. The braised short ribs were fantastic. The filet was melt in your mouth tender. For desert, I recommend the crème brûlée and affogato, but you really can't go wrong.

Barb W.

Yelp
This was our first time there. The service was very good and our waitress Delacey was super nice. I had the salmon and it was delicious. Eating outside is a bit noisy with the traffic going by. But other than that it was a nice evening.

Martha H.

Yelp
Had a wonderful dinner here while in Flagstaff. The restaurant was cozy. The service was wonderful and the dinner was so fast. Our steaks came out much faster than I expected and were cooked perfectly. The calamari appetizer was delicious. Would absolutely go back next time I'm in Flagstaff.

Brian M.

Yelp
Outstanding formal dining in Flagstaff. The setting is a restored historic two story home and the food and service were spot on. We were in a large party and we got to try every dish on the menu and they were all scrumptious and well prepared. Compared to Brixx this place is a 10+. White tablecloths and a well constructed wine list make this a go to on every future trip to Flagstaff!

Mary B.

Yelp
Always dine at Josephine's when we are in Flagstaff. First time we sat upstairs for brunch. Cozy seating area and we had an attic window view of the falling snow. The food everyone agreed was delicious, service great. First time for brunch and no one was disappointed..

Michelle B.

Yelp
I've been eyeing the flagstaff burger for months and finally tried it! Absolutely the best burger in Flagstaff!

Teresa B.

Yelp
Excellent food! Great service. Cozy atmosphere! Was pleasantly surprised by top notch food.

Cecelia P.

Yelp
We tried Josephine's for the first time and we were very happy with both the food and service. Our server was Maria and she did an excellent job. The food was fresh and hot. We ordered Southwestern Crab cakes and calamari for appetizers. Our entrees included the Cippino and Chef special Salmon dish. The broth for the Cippino was very flavorful and had a lot of seafood. The crab cake stuffed Salmon was very good. We will definitely come back. And don't forget to have a Prickly Pear Margarita and the Zeppoles for desert

Janice H.

Yelp
Josephine's is a beautiful house that has inside and outside dining. We took our son out to dinner when we visited for parents weekend at NAU. The staff is lovely and the steaks were fabulous. I would highly recommend going to Josephine's if you're steak looking for a nice dinner

Adilene V.

Yelp
Delicious food, great service & very cozy place, love to go for dinner there anytime we are in Flagstaff.

Maria C.

Yelp
Food was excellent - staff great The chef delivered an excellent meal. Restaurant is great and the outside has a couple of fire pits- very nice

Rob U.

Yelp
Restaurant had an old building feel but was still nice. Their menu was very versatile and the food we ordered was pretty good. But I must say, they had the best adffogato I have ever had! I like their twist in adding caramel chips in the ice cream. Our server was very friendly, attentive and interacted with us. Definitely a go to place !

Tarren P.

Yelp
Josephine's is my go-to anytime I'm in Flagstaff, and one of my favorite places to celebrate an occasion. I've come here for birthdays, graduation, and engagement celebrations in the past, and the restaurant is near and dear to my heart. I worked here as a server through college so I have seen first-hand the love and effort that goes into every meal! Tony and Marlene (the owners) are kind to their employees and truly care about the quality of both food and service that guests experience when dining here. Dan, our favorite server, always takes great care of us. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a quality dining experience in Flagstaff. I will surely continue to visit every time I'm in town.

Brian L.

Yelp
Great service. Great food. Love the dining experience in an historical house. If you're lucky on a chilly morning getting near a fireplace. . Amazing chorizo gravy and biscuits for breakfast. Going to dinner for the first time soon.

Danielle D.

Yelp
Unbelievable food. Great service. Beautiful outdoor patio. Truly unmatched. Felipe and his service was great! Will definitely come here again!

Sharon I.

Yelp
We traveled to Flagstaff for one reason....National Parks, beautiful scenery, and other destinations like Page AZ and Antelope Canyon. We decided only one night would we "go out" and forgo pizza, breweries, and burritos and celebrate us...and Josephine's fit the bill! We were seated upstairs in an intimated setting of what looked like it was a dormer bedroom many many years ago..we loved it as only one other couple was there! Our host and server were fantastic and attentive as the menu was explained but we already knew what we wanted! I had to have some seafood so the Gouda Mac n cheese with shrimp and sun dried tomatoes and it did not disappoint...I ate it all, unusual for me. My husband had osso bucco and the meat melted into the polenta..heaven! I'm not a dessert girl but alas my sweetheart is so he ordered the bourbon pecan pie which comes deconstructed with a delicious ice cream and drizzle. I admit I tried a spoonful and amazing! We never told them it was our 40th anniversary trip as we did a few other spots and to be honest they are on top of their game no matter when you visit! We'll done and thank you!

Homeyra K.

Yelp
I love the setting! An old house with magnificent fire places, Windows and hardwood floor converted into a restaurant. The hummus is delicious. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection and the bread pudding and lava cake is to die for.

Amy A.

Yelp
Everything was excellent! Food, ambience and service were perfect! Wonderful evening at one of our favorites!

Jennifer D.

Yelp
Terrific food, customer service, and ambiance nestled in a homelike atmosphere. A Flagstaff favorite.

Elise B.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my experience at Josephine's. The food, service and ambiance were all excellent and I would recommend the Fillet Mignon - a perfect meal!

Scout F.

Yelp
We've been going to Josephine's for 3 years now, it's our favorite restaurant in flagstaff. This last visit early October I proposed to my now fiance and in the reservation asked for a drink they didn't have on the menu. They obliged and surprised her with her favorite drink. Love this place and will be back for many years to come!

Drew E.

Yelp
Average at best. Overpriced ridiculously. Many better finer dining options in Flagstaff.

Ron D.

Yelp
Good, good, good! Breakfast is very nice, especially on the patio. Great service. Drinks are also yummy. We like to go here at least once a month.

Helen B.

Yelp
EXCELLENCE in all areas especially the BEST QUALITY and FRESHEST meats, produce, you name it!! If we lived closer, we'd dine in weekly. A MUST visit. Especially for Special Occasions such as anniversary, birthday, etc.

Kat J.

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant in Flagstaff--super cute, super quaint, great selection of food. We had a great experience with Slate today, fantastic & attentive server.

Teresa M.

Yelp
My husband and I were spending one night in Flagstaff and he knows I like restaurants with unique dishes, wonderful atmosphere and great customer service. Josephine did not disappoint. Our server was Daniel. He gave us the perfect amount of attentiveness and he had great recommendations for us. My husband had the seared salmon, I had, sweet potato gnocchi, beer and wine. The servings were just the right size . This is a house with separate rooms. We were seated in front of the fireplace, in a room off to the side. Our evening was exponentially charming! This is the type of food that's tasted as good as it looked! I could never make this good of good at home ! Thank you !!!!!
