Yelp
Located in a plaza near the Shell station off of South Century Road stands Josie K's deli and kitchen. It was a delight to see something quick and affordable, and not fried. There were some baked goods like cinnamon rolls and cookies near the cash register. Their items to order are breakfast burrito, bagel for breakfast, chili, hot dog, tuna or sandwiches for lunch which come with a mini biscotti and small fun size bag of chips. When sandwiches are around $8-9, it's a good value.
As I took a look around the store, I saw some dried goods (dried pasta, chicken stock, canned beans, condiments) and small assortment of cheese and sausage. The fridge/freezer section had house made lasagna ($18ish) and lasagna pie, cheese and pep pizzas ($12 range), pesto and fruit pies for $25. I noticed a stack of day old bread packaged (hoagie rolls and sliced white) for$2.50. I lightly touched the bag and they def still felt soft. Will buy next visit!
There was also a basket of whole fruit and onions which was nice in case you ran out of an ingredient at home.
*what we ate:
We ordered a turkey and provolone sandwich, Dagwood (Italian dressing, ham, turkey and salami) and meatloaf sandwich. They all were tasty. My husband liked the turkey but wish it was on a roll. We ordered quickly so I'm not sure if we're able to choose what type of bread it's on or if it's written in each sandwich description. The meatloaf sandwich tasted like ground beef, compacted a bit with thin sliced raw onion, cheddar and bbq sauce on toasted bread. I would put pickles or something on it next time to give little extra flavor to balance the richness of the sauce and meat. Everything tasted fresh. I was pleased with the amount of protein in each sandwich. The breads were soft but not super memorable in flavor.
It's a nice stop for anyone wanting a bite to eat and a chance to pick up extra goods as well for quick dinner and snacks.
