Beverly Hills Restaurant, Joss Bites, Looks Like a Spaceship Commissary - Eater LA

"Check out Beverly Hills’ newest dining option: Joss Bites, a very futuristic space station that’s doing everything from pork jia jiang mein to meat skewers, steamed buns with duck confit, and dumplings. As the image above shows, the plan with Joss Bites is to make the entire dining experience feel a little like dining on the forward deck of the Starship Enterprise. The communal tables feature glowing astrological maps, there’s dramatic lighting everywhere, and nearly the every corner of the restaurant has been laid over with sheetmetal." - Farley Elliott

It was a very strange experience. If you want to understand what I mean, visit this place, but... The person who met us didn't say hello at all. Is that normal? But it was unpleasant. I waited for my order for a very long time. I started thinking that they only care about getting orders.

The restaurant has two entrances for parties of different sizes. The recommendation to me was their signature dish: the roast duck. The presentation was immaculate and the skin was crispy while the meat was flavorful. The wraps were steamed just right. Ample amount of condiments ensure that each wrap has a balance of duck and veggies. For a restaurant as focused on presentation, the soup was in a plain bowl and the contents seem to be just scooped out from a big pot. Regardless, this place is worth a try. I didn't try the dim sum but they seem to be on the higher end of prices.

Hello, I got really really bad food poisoning on Saturday night. I had a hot and sour soup, soup dumplings, and the duck my husband also ate the duck so I don’t think it was that but some thing in the hot and sour soup got me so sick so I think if you order from here please avoid the soup. I’m not sure what they put in it but I had Diarrhea and vomiting for 24 hours nonstop. It was horrifying. I thought I would have to go to the hospital… Please check the quality of your food. This is not appropriate for such “high-quality”and expensive cost. Unfortunately I loved this place but will never eat here again and want others to not experience what I did… was completely Awful

Last week, a friend took me to Joss for dinner. As we started eating, I kept saying how come I didn’t know this place before. The food is truly amazing: very high standards on quality and preparation. I have been to other high-end few Chinese restaurants and Joss’s food is definitely comparable with Chinois and Mr Chao. The service is great too. Our waiter Walter always has smiles on his face. I was so happy that I find this place! The only thing I hope is they improve decoration a bit.

I went into this restaurant randomly and as soon as I went in I was given a super amazing and warming welcome. The owners sat with me and talked to me, had a full on conversation. You can tell how much passion they have for this restaurant which makes the food INSANE !!! So flavorable. Def going back ASAP.

Yelp
I was in town for business, and some friends took me to Joss Bites for dinner. FYI - the hot and sour soup is AMAZING! Their soup uses that just-right dark rice wine vinegar that gives the perfect, delicious, bite. We also had the lobster, duck, and cashew chicken. Each dish was prepared with obviously fresh ingredients and a keen sense of how to bring out the subtle flavors of well-loved classics. When I get back to LA, Joss bites will be on my must-visit list.

Yelp
I've passed by Joss Bites many times and was always curious. I finally stopped in and so glad I did. Right now it's outdoor seating only which made me feel safe. The menu is eclectic and what we had was fantastic! I had the soup dumplings and the Mushroom Napoleon. My mom had the tofu squares, eggplant chip and bao! Run don't walk to this little local business. I will 100000% come back!

Yelp
I have been eyeing Joss Bites since their renovation started. Today I finally had the chance to try it for lunch It is only a week or so old, so it was pretty vacant. The decor is kind of a spacey theme with lots of metal, screens and other future decor. Also the theme has an aqua blue tone, thus the blue tint to my photos The workers behind the counter were extremely nice and helpful as we navigated their awesome Asian street food menu This is what we had Fresh mint, ginger and lime sparkler- make sure you stir this before you drink it as the flavors settle to the bottom- once you do that you get all of the flavors- it is not too sweet and very refreshing on a hot day Toasted garlic with minced pork on vermicelli noodles- this was an explosion of flavors- make sure you mix this up before you eat it so you get everything in every bite- so good! The extra sauce I used to put on the other dishes Baked Malaysian curry beef in puffed pastry- this was like a Chinese empanada. The pastry was very flaky and well made. The beef and the curry worked well together. Pretty good- but there are so many other things to explore on the menu Hainan chicken with coconut rice- this was the bomb! make sure you use the green garlic sauce on the chicken and the ginger on the coconut rice- WOW! loved this Szechuan spicy pork wontons in chili sauce- loved this dish as well! great flavor and loved the sichuan spices Crab and Uni soup dumplings- I thought this was going to be the best bite of the day because it is right up my alley- but to me this was the least successful dish we tried- maybe the uni wasn't up to par? All in all- I will be back. Everything on the menu sounds so good and if the dishes are similar and quality to what I had for lunch today- I will be in for a real treat If you are looking for a reasonably priced unique Asian lunch or dinner, you owe it yourself to try this place Oh- since they have no beer or alcohol license, BYOB!!!!!

Yelp
I asked for soy sauce and vinegar. They brought out white vinegar, yes that's the stuff used to CLEAN the kitchen. Dry tasteless duck, Raw ginger flavored noodles with shrimp dumpling Skewers were nicely cooked, but bland Banana wrapped something, overly sweet, grainy and mushy. The 8oz coke is a pathetic scam. I couldn't see that it was a tiny portion on their menu screen. I was here at lunch, won't be returning.

Yelp
New Asian restaurant in Beverly Hills. Intimate space-themed casual spot with two long communal tables occupying most of the space and a couple tables for outdoor seating. Very extensive menu of classic dim sum dishes or asian-style tapas if you will. some of the dishes I got to sample: Fresh mint, ginger and lime sparkler: definitely a must. very refreshing. crab and uni soup dumplings - as other yelpers have said, the uni just isn't up to par and I think could be omitted since it doesn't really add to the classic dish. lamb brioche - one of my fav dishes, but how can you not like bread stuffed with lamb right? duck confit in a steamed twisted roll - one of their signature and unique dishes, really good Peking duck slider - definite signature and must get item

Yelp
I never thought I would eat Asian tapas anywhere in Beverly Hills but this is it! It's themed galaxy inside. I recommend trying their noodles and duck sandwich! Suuuuuper affordable too. Parking in the front!

Yelp
Really love this place, lately I've been coming here quite often and it's always amazing. I think the crispy wontons are my favorites, but honestly everything is really good and the quality couldn't be better. I also had the Pink Ginger Ice cream, at first I was a bit skeptical but it was incredibly refreshing, I definitely recommend. Probably my favorite place in LA, food is amazing and the customer service couldn't be better. Anything bellow 5 stars would be an insult.

Yelp
Amazing experience. Great vibe. Cool atmosphere. The awesome place to try Asian foods that you never could have imagined. All of the dishes I got were all first time for me but they were all so good. I can't wait to go back and try more of the menu items. The portions come in bite sized foods as the name of the restaurant would hint at, so it is great to get varieties and try few of them per each visit. If you like duck prepared foods, you have to try their recipes. They have few items on those. Lastly, their desserts and ice cream are one of a kind! You have to at least try one each time!

Yelp
I ordered via Postmates. The lamb skewers were cold, but well seasoned. The gyoza were hot and tasty. There was a maggot in the edamame. I gagged when I popped it into my mouth and thankfully did not swallow. It ruined my meal and a few of my colleagues at the table understandably lost their appetites as well. Postmates decided the right thing to do was refund the cost of the edamame and nothing more, which is astonishing to me.

Yelp
I walked by wanting just to try one exotic favor of this cool looking new place in Beverly Hills and ended up Eating 5 of them, just can't stop! The Toasted Black Sesame is definitely the best of this flavor anywhere, then the Salty Coconut Caramel, the Honey Chrysanthemum Sorbet, Pink Ginger all unique and great, then the server said, you haven't tried our best selling Cappuccino Crunch. so I did and I'm hooked - Best Ice cream in town!

Yelp
Great food! Even More awesome new owners Luke and Dèy! I was staying at the Beverly Hilton and found this place that was walking distances to the hotel. I wanted something causal for dinner after traveling in that afternoon. This place (while currently like a space ship) was a chill place to have Ox Tail Pho -- tapas style. It was just enough food and full of flavor. The owners are artists and plan to infuse art and their love into this place. Really cool guys and I can't wait to come back in 3 months to see what they have up their sleeves! Follow them on Instagram as they are and going to be the best kept secret in Beverly Hills. Yum!

Yelp
Whenever I hear "pan-Asian" I assume it's just going to be lousy Thai, lousy Chinese, and lousy indeterminate South Asian. Joss Bites, on the other hand, has focused, soulful food. I don't know if it's authentic, but I know that it's real. A bit on the pricey side for what you get--you won't confuse it with a hole in the wall Chinese take out place--but worth a splurge. The staff is very kind, and the interior looks like a freakin spaceship

Yelp
Was walking down Little Santa Monica near the Peninsula Hotel, looking for a bar that had closed months before. While out front of Joss Cuisine, a favorite haunt for Chinese, we noticed a space next door called "Joss Bites." Before seeing the name on the awning, couldn't figure out what this place was: a bar, a coffee house, what??? First, this place has very GOOD FOOD sharing the kitchen with Joss next door. Looking for full-waiter dining service? Not for you - go to Joss Cuisine. "Bites" is a casual dining spot where you and 5-10 of your crew can enjoy a good cup of tea, glass of wine and did I mention GOOD FOOD presented tapas-style. Day and Luke are interesting, engaging and simply nice guys trying to make a way in L.A..Their service style is impeccable and for those DIYs, wall-mounted kiosks let you order and pay for the "did I say it before, GOOD FOOD" to dine-in or take-out. A classy, casual venue where a small group can hangout and indulge in fantastic Asian dishes with good drinks - Joss Bites is your place.

Yelp
Great Asian restaurant for trying a bit of this and a bit of that. The owner curated the best of different dishes from many Asian countries. Some of my favorite dishes: he best turnip cake I've ever had w/ Smokey Chinese sausage bites, mini oxtail pho and mini Jjajang Myun.

Yelp
The atmosphere is obviously very cool but the food leaves much to be desired. Was excited going in but left disappointed. Dish 1) Basil chicken nuggets - Decent flavor but very dry - def needed sauce but did not come with dish Dish 2) Shrimp wonton Lo mein - Wontons were good but the the noodles absolutely flavorless Dish 3) Sesame Shrimp Toast - Very average and was expecting something closer to crispy rice. Super small bites not too flavorful Dish 4) King crab spring roll - Pretty good probably the dish closest to 3-4 star range but quite oily Dish 5) Crispy Shrimp Wontons - Decent with the dipping sauce it came with - otherwise again more on bland side Dish 6) Duck confit roll - Horrible - my girlfriend said it tasted like a tiny old stale hotdog - I find this an accurate description Drink) Mint ginger lime sparkler - This was good Overall every bite we took was mostly underwhelming. For small bites I expect powerful punches of flavor. Joss Bites did not deliver anything close to that. Will not return.

Yelp
Joss Bites is a great addition to Joss cuisine. It's so convenient with the self ordering kiosk. My friend and I stopped by for a quick snack was highly satisfied by the quality of food for such a fast paced setting. I strongly recommend their ice cream. They have unique Chinese oriented flavors and the one I got was chrysanthemum sorbet. Best frozen treat in the area.

Yelp
Deliciously crafted tapas bowls, generous menu, and exceptional atmosphere. Joss bites is an experience you must try if you find yourself in Beverly Hills. Dey and Luke are really crafting the art of marrying good food with a good community. The food is made to be shared, bring your friends, family, loved ones and get an experience worth coming back for. Also worth noting to try the Peking duck slider and crab spring rolls, you'll be wanting to take extra home with you!!

Yelp
Such a nice find next to Rodeo dr. Prices are not Beverly hills level which is awesome you probably couldn't find anything like this place in the area. Tried chicken salad with cucumbers and that was enjoyable and large enough to feed me and my girlfriend though we had some space left for their desserts.

Kabir K.

Yelp
Yo this place is lit fam. The food is really really good and the drinks are really really nice as well. My favorite is the Panko pork chopped ramen

Timothy D.

Yelp
Worst place to eat in LA.... recommend never coming here. They don't know what they're doing... the people who work there are unprofessional and rude. The food is gross and the inside is dirty and disgusting.

Sam M.

Yelp
Be aware, the portions are ridiculously small and really not that great. You'll pay way more than most equal type restaurants and get a lot less.

Angelo E.

Yelp
Very flavorful eats! We tried one item from each menu category and nothing disappointed. The lamb satay and Peking duck are must haves. We'll definitely be coming back to try the rest!

Yelp
My husband and I tried Joss Bites for the first time. We were very excited at the prospect of a good Chinese option in the area that isn't extremely pricey. We were less than impressed obviously. First, when we entered the "space ship," no one was around to greet us and not a soul was enjoying food in the establishment (which should have clued us in on what others must know) Upon placing our order on the ipad and thinking we had a couple of tasty things coming our way, we sat down and were then greeted by the front of house person who brought us a paper napkin and plastic cups of water. We waited a little bit and then our meals were brought out in fro yo cups. We ate with plastic utensils in the restaurant and ate out of fro yo cups! I thought all of LA was trying to be more conscious of the environment. But I guess this restaurant hasn't gotten that memo. And with their main restaurant being next door, you would think that they could share proper silverware rather than trash our oceans! Our food was mediocre that we ordered and some extremely salty. We both agree the food was undetectable as Chinese and will NOT be returning.

Yelp
Conflicted about this review. Love the original Joss; want Joss Bites to be successful. I was walking home and thought it was the perfect time to check it out for the first time -- a peking duck slider to end the night, perfect. I never factor service into a review of the quality of my food, never. Scowl, call me names, I'm all for it if the food is on point. But the only person in the restaurant was a 13(if that?) year old girl at the counter. Not a problem by me, some of my favorite restaurants have family friends helping out. Then she tried to charge me 19.75 for a peking duck slider. I thought it was 11? I showed her the menu, and she goes "that must be wrong, it's 19.75." I don't care if you want to help a family friend, but the only person manning the restaurant on a Saturday night is a literal child? and why is that child depriving me of a delicious peking duck slider by trying to charge me damn near 2x the price listed on the menu? And why are they messing with your could-be-successful-but-might-close-in-a-month-if-a-child-is-the-manger restaurant? Barrio taco joints have 12 year olds at the cash register too, and I'm all for it, but they have someone supervising them at least. That's why I didn't want to write this, I don't want you guys to get in trouble for child labor laws because I genuinely don't care about that, all I want is a tasty peking duck slider, but damn, you have a 7th grader as a manager, and they don't even know the prices. What? 4 Stars because I don't want this to hurt you guys and even though I didn't get to taste the food I know that kitchen behind the 13 year old is one of the best in a ten mile radius. Seriously, you're messing up a sure thing.
