Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville Resort Lake Tahoe Opens in South Lake - Eater SF

"For years diners have waited up to an hour for a table at Journey to the Dumpling in Elk Grove, widely recognized as the area’s finest destination for dumplings including soup-filled xiao long bao. Now the Sacramento Bee reports that the restaurant has expanded to Midtown Sacramento with a second outpost at 1714 21st Street." - Lauren Saria

Visited this spot for a friend’s birthday, the plates were all pretty good and I definitely will come back! We ordered so much but my favorites were actually the chow fun (with gravy), the green onion pancakes, and the spicy salt and pepper calamari! I love the atmosphere as well. Beautifully decorated space and I loved seeing all the happy families and groups of friends enjoying their dinners.

We chose this place for lunch. I heard so much about it, that I had to try as it was on the way back home. All street paid parking except Sunday; no designated private parking. The place was nicely decorated and was seated right away for our group of 9 people. They took our order fast; served us quick. I was expecting more dumplings here but it was only a handful of choices. I was a little disappointed at that. The Chinese dishes were mainly family ala cart style. I thought it was a little on the pricey side. The 4 others chose different menu items so we split the bill but our group of 9 paid about $240 for Chinese food! Some of our party had the below and rated: Vietnamese coffee- 5 Beef Roll (appetizer) - 3 (beef was tough) Garlic Green beans - 4 (little too oily) Cucumber salad - 5 Salt and pepper pork chops- 5 (jalapeños not spicy) Flounder Salt & Pepper - 4 Honey Walnut Prawns - 5 Yang Chow Fried Rice - 3 Wonton in Chilli oil - 3 (too much sesame seeds and hot oil; not very flavorful) Xiao Long Bao (Pork Soup Dumplings) - 4 Service was on top of it. Our server was pretty friendly but it felt rushed like they were wanting for us to eat and go, taking our plates right away without asking. For me, nothing special about the food to come back to but glad I tried it.

Google
The food here was absolutely wonderful. We got the yang chow fried rice, Singapore noodles, and the pork soup dumplings and everything was great. The Singapore noodles indicate that they are spicy but they are not spicy at all. The portions are very large, there was 2 of us and we took a lot home. The staff is so friendly and nice. All of the waiters greet you and help you out if you need something. I definitely recommend.

Love love love ! Came here after my flight and before a long work day as I am in town for a conference. This was a great local spot with drinks and delicious shareable options. Good for a group or solo. Highly recommend

Google
I've been here twice now, and the food is very good! Unfortunately, the service could use some improvements. The first time I ate there, it was around the time they first opened, so the place was very crowded and the service was very slow. Not a problem, I knew I'd be back when things settled down. The food is good enough to bring tears to my eyes and the chili dipping sauce is one of the best I've ever had. During my second visit, I ordered Xiao Long Bao and Har Gow. When I was first seated I ordered a Thai tea and got it quickly, but I never got water when I asked for it. When my food arrived I realized I was not given a pair of chopsticks to use. I was provided a spoon and a fork when seated, but neither is ideal to use when eating soup dumplings. My server hadn't come back so I had to ask another server for a set of chopsticks, which they brought right away. (The family next to me was seated with chopsticks without asking for them.) Every time my waitress came over with more food or to take my additional to-go order, I would request a glass of water which she said she'd bring and then not return. She would repeat my order back to me, including the glass of water, and not bring it. I asked 3 times for water. (The tea had no free refills.) It was 94°F outside and I NEEDED that water. Even after bringing my check, I was still asking for water and was not brought any. In addition to what I ate, I also ordered a soup to go for my sick husband. Upon coming back we discovered no utensils or napkins had been provided with the takeout order. To recap, the food was excellent, but the service needs improvement. I was never provided with water and I was either not given utensils at all or utensils were missing. As for the atmosphere, it is lively and friendly, and less crowded now that it's been open for a while but still busy. Parking is limited so it's better to park a block or two away and walk up. Parking is good for 2 hours with some streets being metered and others not.

We’ve been to the restaurant multiple time since we discovered it. On the first visit, we arrived at 11:30am and the baked BBQ pork bun was not ready. The following visit, we arrived around 12pm and were able to order it. The service was good and food came out pretty fast. - Pork XLB: the filling was solid! Good amount of meat with delicious flavor and good soup inside. The skin was chewy and good. It was on the thicker side to accommodate the generous filling. - Peking duck: our favorite! We always order it every time we visit. The skin was crispy and duck meat was tender and flavorful. The wraps were warm and soft but I wished the size was larger since we need to order another portion of wrap to eat it along with the duck. - Fujiyan fried rice: the gravy is too salty so not our favorite - BBQ pork bun: the filling was super good (the pork wasn’t too fatty and the flavor was spot on). I like the outer crust that was crunchy & slightly sweet. However, I wish that the bao was a bit thicker as it became messy once I bite the bun because the bready layer was too thin. - Tan tan mien: love the chewy noodle. The gravy was well seasoned (not too salty). The ground meat had bold flavor and paired perfectly with the noodle. - Singaporean noodle: another favorite! The sauce was bold and tasty (not too salty). The thin noodle had the perfect chewiness. The portion was pretty generous too. - Pork & chive steamed dumplings: the filling was tasty and solid! It was perfectly seasoned and not too salty. Each piece was pretty big and very filling. - Green bean with garlic sauce: the green bean was overcooked so it was not crunchy. But the garlic sauce was very good and had good amount of garlic. - BBQ pork slice: it was okay. The meat itself was tender but some slice were just super fatty.

Their Peking Duck is a culinary masterpiece 😍 The skin is crispy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked to a golden brown color, while the meat remains tender and juicy. It goes so we'll with their savory and slightly sweet sauce! Every bite of duck wrapped in their house made crepe with fresh cucumber and green onions was healing to my soul 🤭

Google
Their food is always so good. Service was good, and food came out quick. Highly recommend the chili oil dumplings.

Yelp
Got takeout and the staff was extremely hospitable, even allowing my disabled dad to sit in a spare seat inside to wait. The crab with egg yolk special was to die for, the beef rolls were incredible, and both dumplings were just as good as usual (from the Elk Grove location). They were so busy and still got us our food with less than a half hour wait. 10/10 would recommend. Made my mom very very happy :)

Yelp
Food is gooood! We arrived, and got on the waiting list. The hostess said 30-35 min but we were seated 20min later. Nice ambiance, lots of red lights. The waiter was nice, took our order and came back to tell us, it would be a little wait because they were crowded, then the first plate came 30 seconds later! Everything was very good and the plates are huge. I took a picture of the fried rice and garlic noodles (delicious, and could easily scare a vampire away), the rest of the order arrived fast and we were so happy to eat, I didn't take any pic... The waiter at the end realized he had not ordered in the kitchen the duck I wanted but I was so full I didn't mind.

Yelp
Journey to the dumpling is so good. We recently just ordered a ton and everything was great. We recommend the xiao long bao, chicken dumplings, green beans, and honey walnut shrimp. This is typically our go to take out spot but the times we've been there were great. Very friendly service and lively ambiance. Outdoor seating is available too.

Yelp
The soup dumplings are always a must! The veggie fries rice is very delicious as well. I have been to both locations and prefer Midtown.

Yelp
I was an avid Journey to the Dumpling fan back in college, so when I saw they had a new location, I knew I had to check it out! We ate at Journey on a Saturday. We added our name to the Yelp waitlist around 6:30 and didn't get seated until 7:50. We ordered the Peking duck, wontons in chili oil, and pan-fried soup dumplings. I thought the pan-fried soup dumplings were a bit too thick, so I got tired of them after a while. However, the wontons and Peking duck were amazing! I loved wrapping the Peking duck, and the portion size was pretty generous. Side note: Their chili oil is AMAZING. I could eat it by itself. Overall, I will definitely be back. I love the decor, lighting, and service. Next time, I'd probably add my name to the waitlist earlier, but aside from the wait time, I LOVE the food here!

Yelp
Best dumpling and Chinese food in Sacramento! We enjoy the fried pork buns here. Hong Kong chow mein is excellent - we got pork on the side. Love the vegetarian dumplings dipped in their phenomenal chili oil. Egg tarts are delightfully creamy if you have room left for dessert! The wait time can be a pain. Try to come during non-busy hours and come with small parties. Party of 2 would be ideal. They have seating available for larger groups, but I've seen wait times as long as 2 hours here.

Yelp
One of the best chinese/asian restaurant I've tried. They have a good branch in midtown Sac. The place is nicer than the other branches. They serve faster here than the branch in elk grove. Love all their food. We ordered egg noodles, chow fan, wonton chili oil, their shumai is the best! Love all their food! Will always go back here if we crave for some dumplings.

Yelp
I had been to the Elk Grove location before and loved their food. Quality dumplings and that's mainly what you should come here for. A colleague told me they have really good French fries here, which I will have to come back to try since I was confused as to why a dumpling restaurant has fries on the menu! Pork soup dumplings: A- Shrimp, pork, mushroom steamed dumplings: B Hong Kong style pan fried chow mein with chicken: B+ The interior of the restaurant looks fantastic with the chinese decorations and neon signs.

Yelp
Very good food. Cute little restaurant. We have been to their restaurant more the 5 times now, this includes the elk Grove location. My only suggestion is that the servers give more attention. We waited for the steak fried rice for so long that it came out once we were done eating all of our food because of this we turned it away and said we did not want it any longer. Also they forgot to give us a few other items but it didn't take as long as the fried rice did. So far the food has been consistent in taste. Will still keep going. If it didn't take that long to get all the food I would have given 5 stars. I understand it gets busy, but it has been the same service almost every time

Yelp
This was my first time trying Journey to the Dumpling's Midtown location and it was a pretty good experience. We came on a Saturday evening and there was an hour wait, sheesh! After we got a table, we ordered the xiao long bao and wonton in chili oil. The pork xiao long bao was definitely the best item. You get 8 pieces in the steamer basket. They were very enjoyable, especially with the vinegar and soy sauce. Be careful not to rip the skin and let the soup spill out. The wonton in chili oil was also really good. I liked the flavor and it wasn't too spicy. Great order. Our waitress was really nice and friendly. I loved the red lit decor on the walls and the overall ambiance of the restaurant. The menu at Journey to the Dumplings is very similar to Din Tai Fung, which I happen to like a lot. The skin on the xlb dumplings at JTTD is thicker than DTF's, but the flavor is still good. I was already a fan of JTTD's Elk Grove location so it's nice to have a location downtown as well.

Yelp
What a great spontaneous find! We were on our way to a different restaurant, but as we drove past Journey to the Dumpling I was immediately drawn to it by its bold presence amidst a lackluster block of other establishments. Bright lights (executed very tastefully), great aesthetics, and most importantly - big windows that revealed the amount of people dining inside. It was poppin! And this was a Tuesday night! We knew at once that we must make a change of plans and so we did. We were seated pretty quickly, which was a relief. A quick Yelp search helped me identify the most popular items on the menu so we ordered based off your very helpful reviews, thank you! The Pork Soup Dumplings and Peking Ribs did not disappoint. As I took my first slurp from the dumplings all I could say was, "WOW, that's GOOD"... Totally not what I was expecting (this was my first dumpling experience ever), but WAAAAYYY better than I had ever imagined soup dumplings to taste. The order of ribs was also tasty and the portion was generous. I did find them a little difficult to eat with chopsticks as I had no desire to get dirty eating with my hands. Nonetheless, we ate everything up and were very satisfied. Some other things to note: - The bill was on par with the service/food we received. -Our server was attentive and helpful in describing menu items. -The decor was beautiful and fun to admire as we waited for our food. -The patrons all looked like they were having a great time. I can't wait to go back!!

Yelp
So many dumpling places cropping up. It's as hot as ramen used to be, a new joint opening up every time you blink. XLBs were a little too large and skin is a little too thick. Also didn't come with vinegar, had to ask. It seems unfair to compare this place with DTF on that dish. I think comparing broadly with the Bay Area, I've had better than Journey but I've also had worse. The same applies to the red chili wontons. Though on this one, the skin was thinner than most places and felt closer to an HK wonton than Szechuan style. Maybe not surprising because they also had some canto dim sum dishes in the mix. The flavor didn't hit as hard as other places like 四姐 Special Noodle。 Honey walnut prawns were pretty good. Lightly crispy and not too sweet. Singapore curry noodle was above average. Pork and chives dumplings were okay. They were better here than a new spot in San Mateo (Bay Area peninsula) that I had tried. The egg tarts were Portuguese style and I loved them. Someone in our party thought it was too buttery but I hardly ever complain about that. Friendly and decently paced service. The decor is kind of "modern oriental" but I'm getting in the mood for CNY with all the lunar new year collabs being released. This gives off that vibe and I'm here for it. All in all - prob a nice addition to the area. Wouldn't mind coming back and trying other dishes. It did feel a little pricier for what expectations I had for non-downtown Sacramento. If this spot were in the Bay Area though I'd probably go with 四姐 or DTF, based on the dishes I tried.

Yelp
First off. Parking here is messy. Not faulting the business. Just fyi. It's midtown. Parking is annoying. That aside. The inside is spacious. It's calmer vibes. Eating at both locations now. Food is delicious and consistent. Service is good and attentive. The biggest difference is the ambiance. It's calmer and nicer here. Definitely recommend pork and shrimp xlb. Siu mai and spicy wonton.

Yelp
This is located on the corner with nearby street parking. This location is super spacious with plenty of seating. We have a 3 yo and they're super accommodating - providing plastic plate and utensils. They have a kids noodle soup too where you can add a protein. We ordered the pork soup dumplings (so good), the beef roll (also good and great as a leftover you can pop in the air fryer), Singapore noodles (has a hint of curry flavor), and the green beans. Everything was so good!

Yelp
I crave Journey to the Dumpling at least twice a week! The food is incredible, the service is great, and the ambience is awesome. This place is always busy, for a reason!
google avatar

Francine Y.

Yelp
I've been to the Elk Grove location but I think midtown's location is better. EG is great too but man. Midtown location is amazing! I don't eat Chinese food often but when I do, this is my go to place now. The service is always above par. Quick and always courteous. The noise level out of 10 is maybe a 6.5-7. You can check in on yelp ahead of time too which is very convenient. Love this place!
google avatar

Farrah R.

Yelp
Service on water is great! They bring your food out, but other than that, they don't really bother you. The chili oil is it--we purchase a jar to take home! We've tried the meat burger, the onion pancake, the beef roll, the chili oil dumplings, the Vegetarian Dumplings, all flavors of the Bao, the potstickers, the Steak and Potatoes, the Sticky Rice. Everything was good, but our favorites are the veggie dumplings with chili oil and the meat burgers. The midtown location is very classy with fun decor. The staff is professional. Parking is on the street. Try this place if you can find parking!

Yelp
We are visiting the area and came here for dinner. Slammed busy. We all ordered different things to share. Lots of things... LOL!!! The food was amazing! We got the scallion bread with dip, BBQ pork, pork Boa, pot stickers both fried and steamed, BBQ pork chow mein, Fried rice, Peking duck, and green beans. I loved the scallion bread, BBQ pork chow mein, and my favorite was the fried potstickers. The food was delicious! So good. We all ate until we couldn't eat any more. The service was kind and attentive. The restaurant was clean and modern. The worked fast and efficiently. We really enjoyed the whole experience and if I lived close this would be a regular stop!

Yelp
This was my first time at this location & the staff were quick & welcoming. It's a big place & there's plenty of seating so it's great to have a medium-large parties. However, they do get busy fast so I'd recommend getting there ASAP! The food was delicious! I especially liked their Xiao Bao Pork Dumplings. It was perfectly made hot, juicy, & tender pork on the inside. This, paired with the garlic noodles & a side a rice ‍. I enjoyed every bite. I'd come back to try new dishes & hangout with friends or family here. 8.5/10 for me
google avatar

Rachel K.

Yelp
We keep coming back for more! At this point Journey to the Dumpling has become our go-to spot to bring friends and out of town guests. The restaurant is clean, beautifully decorated and modern. They can accommodate groups, but if you have a bigger group you may want to make a reservation or be ready to add your name to the waitlist and hangout nearby (we recommend Pocha House or Midtown Spirits for a quick drink while you wait for a table). If you come during off peak hours you can usually be seated right away and they do great takeout as well. We've been working our way through the menu and everything is delicious. My favorites are the garlic green beans, pork XLB, shumai, and har gow. We always eat family style so that everyone can try a bit of everything. Keep an eye out for specials, they're always yummy.
google avatar

Stephanie Y.

Yelp
Ok, love the ambiance. It's like a Hong Kong diner - neon and all, with a menu from vegan and their Impossible dumplings to Peking duck, pork dumplings and everything in between. I'm not going to lie: I have had better of everything we ate, but it was still so good. And in between the fun and modern vibes, price, taste and portion sizes, you can't go wrong with this spot. The green beans were crispy and with the option, we made them spicy and they had a bite. The shumai may be the largest shumai I've seen. No minced shrimp here, but the full little shrimp. I couldn't stop eating them. The soup dumplings were solid; not too brothy. And the Peking duck was different - not the usual clear thin crepe, but a more substantial one and a more soy sauce based sauce vs the typical hoisin plum sauce. Food came out quick, service was great and so much food for the price. Overall, a win!
google avatar

Rebecca Q.

Yelp
So many amazing vegan/allergen friendly options! All of the food was hot and delicious, but the winners were the Salt & Pepper Tofu and the Green Beans. The staff was very friendly attentive, especially with making sure the dishes were safe for the different allergies. The restaurant itself was very cute, well lit, and had a lot of tables for it being a somewhat small space. Bonus: The bathrooms were really clean!
google avatar

Yelp
Right when you walked in, you can see all the amazing red glowing signs and decors. Our service was very respectful and nice. We ordered soup dumpling, chicken garlic noodle, and fried rice. Everything was delicious. Parking was a bit of a pain since it is downtown sacramento, but it was worth it. I would say the food is the same as the elk grove location! If you are craving some soup dumpling, come to this place!
google avatar

Yelp
Food- It was decent but not as good as I recalled. Just nothing special. Above average but not by much. Service- Again decent, but not as good as I recalled. Ambiance- Well, was there any? It was Sacramento. Again nothing special. One upside to this place is that I didn't have to travel out to BFE(G) for a taste. It's in this hyped up Midtown area right across the street from the Sacramento Bee. XLB wasn't as good as I'd expected. Soup dumplings aren't supposed to be potstickers with broth in em and that's how they tasted. Other various dim sum dishes were good. The thin Singapore noodles had good flavor and a bit oddly had jalapeno peppers in em. They were a little on the pricey side. I said it. Not good enough to warrant those prices. Too much hype. But hey, it worked...got me in the door. Would not turn down an invite to meet for a meal here but also would probably not choose this place either. It's decent but not quite enough.

Yelp
I had family visiting from out of town, and Journey to the Dumpling was the perfect place to enjoy a filling, family style lunch! The last time I visited Journey to the Dumpling was closer to their grand opening when wait times were long, and you'd often arrive to a line out the door. Fortunately, I could monitor the status of the waitlist through Yelp before arriving, and our table of four had no wait on a Saturday afternoon! We ordered two Hong Kong Style Milk Teas and Vietnamese coffee to drink and several plates to share. Our order consisted of the Roasted Duck, BBQ Pork Slices, Xiao Long Bao (Pork Soup Dumplings), Steamed Chicken Dumplings, Potstickers, Steak and Potatoes, and Yang Chow Fried Rice. We were worried that we wouldn't have enough table space as our dishes were arriving hot and fresh, but everything was able to fit! My family enjoyed everything, and my parents said the duck is the best that they've ever had! I highly recommend their signature, Xiao Long Bao, and suggest giving the soupy broth inside a minute or two to cool before biting in. My family loved all the dipping sauces, and we had plenty of leftovers to take home. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
First time trying Journey to the Dumpling and it did not disappoint! This place is located on the bottom-floor of a relatively new apartment complex. It has a really cool interior (love the Hong Kong style neon signs) with both indoor and outdoor seating. We arrived at around 1:30 PM on a Saturday and we were seated right away outside (inside was short wait). Service was prompt and friendly throughout. The menu here is extensive. They have dim sum items, soup dumplings, noodle soups, and traditional rice/noodle plates. We tried a bit of everything. The soup dumplings (8 for $16) were juicy, light, and warm. The wrapping was not as thin and delicate than Din Tai Fung, but the flavor of the soup and meat inside were on-par. We also tried the siu mai (8 for $16) and pan fried pork buns (6 for $15). Prices are a bit higher compared to hole-in-the-wall restaurants (as expected) given you are paying for a more elevated, modern experience. Most dumplings and dim sum items average out to $2/piece compared to $1-$1.50 elsewhere. That being said, everything was quality. Street parking only, so be prepared to walk some.

Yelp
Such a good dupe for dtf! We got the crab & pork xlb, pan fried pork buns, garlic noodles, beef noodle soup, shrimp balls, wontons in chili oil, and green beans with garlic sauce. We split this between 5 people after a whole day of being out and this was just what we needed. The beef noodle soup wasn't our favorite but everything else was so flavorful and delicious! The wait wasn't too bad either, we joined on yelp before we got there and didn't have to wait too long to be seated. Forgot to take pictures because we were so hungry but would definitely come back!
google avatar

Helen H.

Yelp
We came in for dinner. After 6:00pm, street parking is free. The interior is nice with all the neon signs. The lights enclosed in the dumpling baskets are also cute. We ordered several dishes to share. The beef roll was quite filling. The skin was crispy and chewy. My favorite was the crispy salt & pepper calamari. Of course we had to get XLB dumplings. We ordered both the pork and the crab & pork. I didn't feel like the crab & pork was worth it. We also got wonton in chili oil and veggies. We were offered egg tarts when our server found out it was one of our birthdays. I thought it was only going to be one for the birthday girl, but we all got one. Great service!

Yelp
A beautiful experience to transport you outside of Sacramento without leaving the Midtown! Love the ambiance, even on a Friday night, we got seated right away and we chose inside seating. Reminded me of my asian travels and service was great! They were attentive, excellent and take pride on what they do. We ordered multiple dishes and one of them is the peking duck. Beautiful presentation, delicious and delicate. I wanted to try noodle dishes but that will be for next time when there are more folks in with us. I cannot wait to bring my friends here and try more. I am glad we got to finally try it and amazing work!!

Yelp
Got 4 items to share for our group of 3: beef rolls 5/5: flavorful, loved all the sliced cucumbers xiao long bao 5/5: soupy, juicy, delicious duck noodle soup 4/5: pretty good, but the noodle texture wasn't the best for a noodle soup salt & pepper flounder 4/5: really liked this because it tasted good but wish it was a bit more crispy on the outside Didn't expect much for this place compared to other traditional chinese restaurants but it was actually pretty good. Overall enjoyed all the food we got.
google avatar

Kristine K.

Yelp
We liked the large variety of vegetarian options: we got mushroom bao, impossible dumplings, vegetarian Singapore noodles, and spicy green beans. All of the vegetarian options were tasty especially with the house chili oil, but we were disappointed by our meat dish of the pan fried soup dumplings. The wrapper was too thick so came out dry and overly chewy. Service was excellent. We would return for the vegetarian dishes, but like other dumpling places more for meat options.
google avatar

Marcel M.

Yelp
Delicious dumplings, got to be the best place in sac. So glad they opened up a spot in midtown. My favorite are the spicy wontons and the soup dumplings.
google avatar

Kimberly C.

Yelp
The atmosphere is fabulous and great for families and friends. The restaurant has bright lights and plenty of seating available. The steamed pork soup dumplings were surprisingly good! I should've gone with the traditional simpler Chinese dishes that were available because that's what the restaurant seems to be known for, besides the steamed pork soup dumplings. The more complex dishes didn't taste as good as other places I've been to. The service is really fast here, so definitely great if you're hungry. Overall, I enjoyed my experience here. If I'm in the area and craving some Chinese food, I'll definitely think of this place.

Yelp
Temporarily closed due to kitchen fire for several weeks now. I just called and they said they are hoping to be ready to reopen Monday night assuming it would be 12/23rd 2024! Please call to confirm before going to the Sacramento location! And ya, Elk Grove location ain't got nothing on the Sacramento JTTD!

Yelp
We had a great experience! The green beans were perfectly crisp and flavorful, the XLB (xiao long bao) , and the green onion pancakes were crispy and flaky. The cucumber salad was the perfect refreshing and a good palate cleanser. The outdoor patio was lovely and dog-friendly! Great food, great vibes--can't wait to come back!

Yelp
As others have said, I found the food, including the dumplings, okay. Asian food is always welcome in Midtown and my comparison is the heralded Din Tai Fund. The dumplings felt too thick and not that bursting delicate texture. The noodles were also fine. The prices are on the slightly higher side and the main issue is the wait (at least when I went some time ago). Interior is neat and bright, and the service was decent.

Yelp
This place has been on my list to try for so long! I was definitely thrilled when my team at work voted for this spot to have our Thanksgiving week team lunch. We were a party of 5 and arrived at noon on a Tuesday. Parking was incredibly easy for everyone and we were seated right away. We opted to order a selection of family style dishes. Garlic Green Beans Honey walnut prawns Chili wontons Vegetarian Shu mai I think.... Soup Dumplings Every single one of us loved every single dish! That is saying a lot. It's so hard to please a crowd and we all left with very full bellies. The green beans were one of my favorites. I did get to take a little home and share with my son and we both love them so much. We actually added them to our Thanksgiving menu! The soup dumplings were so fun to eat and my first time- I didn't even make a mess! I really liked how they kept checking on us and making sure our water glasses were full . Next time I'm definitely gonna get the soup dumplings so my son can try them, excited to have those green beans again and I'm looking forward to trying their Thai tea. I'm gonna invite my brother and his girlfriend because they live pretty close to here and they've been wanting to try it too. It's really a fun spot for a small group like 5 to 7. It's absolutely perfect.

Yelp
Busy, bustling restaurant on a Sunday night. The flavors and attentiveness of my server were the best otherwise I might have been unhappy because my noodle bowl took a good while to come out. The fact that I had a relaxed evening for myself also helped. Nick is working hard as I watch so it wasn't his doing. I only had the Tan Tan Mian noodle bowl which was basic but excellent flavor. My next door neighbor table of 4 with four dishes received all their food well ahead of me. Would have loved the egg custard tarts ($9/4) but they ran out. Got the last bottle of Jinro Shoju so I was pretty content. Though the noise factor is high, the ceilings are too so it's easy enough to hear. I'm from out of town and didn't have friends to bring and talk with but hopefully will next time around.

Yelp
Husband and I came to satisfy those pregnancy cravings. I've been wanting ciao long nap so that's exactly what we ordered. And the wontons in chili oil. And the cucumber salad with egg rolls. Soup dumplings came right away and were perfectly steamed. Egg rolls had some cinnamon to them and good crunch. Not too much cabbage in there which was great. Cucumber salad cooled mouth off nicely after the wontons in chili oil. We finished everything and left happy.

Yelp
Their overall theme is beautiful and welcoming. The waitress we had was amazing. We arrived late and she still went out of her way to let us try different teas. Their Chili oil dumplings are amazing, definitely recommend.

Yelp
I got a chance to finally try this new location with a group of friends and it did not disappoint. All of the food was just as delicious as the original Elk Grove location. The service was great, timely, and attentive. My group couldn't just choose just a couple of items so we just did some of everything. All of it was delicious and I tried the Fujian fried rice for the 1st time, it was good. It's almost like a soy or teriyaki sauce gravy on top of the rice. Don't be put off by the appearance, it's good. The garlic noodles were good also. At the Elk Grove location I always get the Yang Chow fried rice, which is like a house friend rice with a mix of proteins. I'll need to try the Yang Chow fried rice at this location the next time I come. My favorites were the peking spare ribs, honey walnut shrimp, and of course the pork soup dumplings. They're very well known for their pork soup or Xiao Long Bao dumplings. I'll definitely be coming back to this location. The inside is very nice and modern as well, maybe technically bigger than the Elk Grove location?

Yelp
Pretty cool spot we discovered! The ambience inside is so modern and inviting with their wall of neon signs. Place gets pretty busy so come a little earlier or expect a small wait. Food was good and they have good vegetarian/ vegan options.

Yelp
Amongst the various amounts of Asian spots located in Sacramento, Journey to the Dumpling should always be in your rotation. They have some great service all around the restaurant as they're really helpful with anything and everything. It's usually busy right when they open for dinner at 4pm so you should get there a little before that time. Every time we're craving dumplings this is one of our spots to hit up. Their soup dumplings are some of the BEST dumplings I've ever had and the Har Gow is also reallyyyy good. Their chow mein is also really good, we usually order it with thick noodles instead of the thin noodles. They also offer a variety of different appetizers that should be checked out. It's a really chill spot to go to with friends and family or on a nice date night so definitely check them out.

Yelp
I visited their restaurant in Elk Grove and thought it was ok. I havent had a reason to go back. We planned a family dinner and decided to try their new spot in mid-town. Boy am I glad we did. The food was mostly delicious, the service was great and the ambiance was fun. I love the neon artwork on the walls. We ordered many dishes my favorite was the chili won tons. It was a perfect combo of spicy and chili. The Steak Fried Rice was very juicy and flavorful - I definitely recommend this dish. Singapore noodles, LOVE It was the perfect amount of heat. The only dish we ordered that I didn't love was the scallion pancakes. It lacked flavor and was a bit greasy.

Yelp
First time customer. I went on a Tuesday evening around 6:30pm. Surprised that there was a 30 minute wait. I figured the food must be good, if it's crowded on a weekday. The restaurant interior was pleasant & inviting. The Har Gow was delicious!! We asked go the fried rice to be fried hard, but unfortunately it was not. The taste was fine (with large shrimp), but not prepared as requested. The Xiao Long Bao was just "ok."
