"This busy fast-casual Taiwanese spot in Highland Park serves a tight menu of classic street foods, including rice bowls, noodles, and buns, along with a changing selection of cold appetizers like crunchy lotus roots and wood ear mushrooms. Joy is the sister restaurant of equally popular Pine & Crane, but the menu here is more solo dining friendly and one we find ourselves returning to more often. Part of the menu carries over hits from Pine & Crane, like the minced pork on rice, but also brings some new items exclusive to Joy–like the flaky thousand layer pancakes, best eaten filled with egg, cheese, chili sauce, and basil. And while this isn’t the case with every place on this guide, make sure to save room for dessert–the shaved ice or soft Hakka mochi dusted with finely crushed peanuts and black sesame are both great. Food Rundown Minced Pork Over Rice Joy’s minced pork rice is classic Taiwanese comfort food done really well. While at some places you’ll find this made with ground pork, here the rice is topped with tender Kurobuta pork, with the marinade seeping through the warm rice below so that each spoonful is super flavorful. You also get pickled radish on the side to cleanse your palate and get it ready for another bite of fatty pork. Thousand Layer Pancake This pancake gets griddled until the bottom is nice and crispy. And at Joy, you can get it plain or filled with egg, cheese, or both–you also have an option to get it with basil and a sweet chili sauce, which you absolutely should. We think the cheese detracts somewhat from the other flavors, but if you want melted cheese in your pancake, don’t let us stop you. Chiayi Chicken Rice A rice bowl topped with shredded chicken breast and shallot oil, this common Taiwanese street food gets an upgrade with Koshihikari short-grain rice and Jidori chicken. It may not be the richest or most flavorful dish here, but it still hits the spot with its simplicity. And sometimes, a really good bowl of chicken rice is all we want. Hakka Mochi This traditional, shareable dessert might look simple, but that’s actually the point. Pieces of pillowy, fresh mochi are coated with finely crushed peanuts on one side and finely crushed black sesame seeds on the other. Sip some hot tea, stab each piece with a toothpick, and repeat as necessary." - Fiona Chandra

This place was so cute. Friendly staff and a ton of unique vegan Asian dishes I got to try for the first time. I got the vegan char siu buns and sesame balls. How epic. The buns were lovely and the soy sauce balanced the flavor perfectly, and the sesame balls have an amazing black sesame (I think) flavor, just the sweet treat I needed!

Whether you’re planning for a romantic date night or a casual get-together with friends, this spot has the ideal setting. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. Everything we tried was an absolute delight. They also have an amazing cocktail. If you’re in Chelsea , this spot is a must-visit. Google
The best place for reunions and chitchat in New York. They have plenty of reservations and it’s located in Chelsea, New York — close to everywhere. Loved my food and the dining experience there. Would recommend it if you want to catch up with friends and find an easy place to talk for hours!

This place is a money trap. My bill was $208, the wiener I supposed, adds a $41 gratuity because we were not paying cash on top of that she forgot to add a coke $4 instead she took the machine and added Ed another gratuity for $30. Really bad business practices. The food wasn’t even that great I had the sweet and sour pork ribs a they were hard couldn’t get the meat off the bone. Nothing impressive, don’t waste your money there is better out there.

I stumbled upon this place after a workout next door and it did not disappoint! If you’re looking for authentic Chinese food, check this place out. Not only was the food really good, customer service was exceptional! I got the half duck. The owner offered me free rice and peanuts just because we got to chatting. Highly recommend!!

Very unique experience having meal here. We went there on Sunday noon, exactly at 12:00, and the restaurant should open at 11:30am But when we get there, all lights are off, only a chef on the floor. No one beside the chef served us. He said the waiter haven’t come yet, but we can still order some food. I came here because saw some pictures in social media and got interested in, however, the dishes is not available anymore, which disappointed me very much. The chef tried his best to introduce some dishes to us, he is really nice though. So we ordered something that he recommend. Until most the end of the meal, someone finally came, worked, and served us. We didn’t being charged, but anyway, thanks for the free meal. For the food, I will rate 4 stars. For the service, I will rate 3 stars. But for this special experience, I will rate 2 stars. Combining into 3 stars, hope they will do a better job in the future.

Google
Their menu is pretty comprehensive, with a lot of Chinese American/Americanized options. We had the spicy mushroom for appetizer, ginger scallion lobster and peppercorn boiled fish. My favorite was the appetizer, the ginger scallion standard was the standard taste you’d expect, which was pretty good. The green peppercorn fish was just okay I thought, didn’t think the broth had that much flavor and it was also a bit too oily. The manager kept encouraging us to order the fresh fish for the dish instead of the fish fillet because she said it was market catch and fresh, I don’t think my partner appreciated the incessant pushing for us to upgrade the fish to market fish, and I thought it tasted a bit too fishy when it came out, so that was my least favorite dish despite us doing the upgrade as she had recommended it.

Food: I got the lotus root fries and the vegan joy noodle. The fries were incredible with the fried red chili topping, dipping sauce was very average. The noodles felt slightly dry and seemed like they were made a while ago since it moulded to the shape of the bowl already. 3/5 since my friends seemed to like their popcorn chicken. Service : lovely staff, attentive. I saw another review about the staff aggressively asking for cash payment - I'm not sure if it was aggressive, but they most definitely asked us twice and when I asked why they prefer cash, they said they usually have to pay for everything in cash and it's really helpful. Just a tip if you're going there, to carry cash and make it easier for them. Atmosphere: this was the highlight of the restaurant for me. Wonderful decor and I really liked the booth seating. They have an offer to get free spring rolls on your next visit if you sign up with your contact details, which was really cute. I'll be back to try some other dishes.

Yelp
"Joy Love Club" has been on my radar to try for awhile, so when I had friends coming to NYC and needed a place with vegan options, this place sounded perfect. And it was! We left thoroughly satisfied and I already know I want to come back on my own and try the items that I didn't get to yet. But tonight, we sampled: ~ Lotus Root Fries (sesame and sichuan peppercorn, and spicy vegan aioli) ~ Szechuan Peppercorn Brussel Sprouts (brussel sprouts leaves sauteed with spicy pepper sauce). - I highly recommend as this was my most favorite dish of the night. ~ Crispy Eggplant (chinese eggplant, soy sauce, oyster sauce vinegar, and sugar) ~ Steamed blue crab dumplings ~ Vegan Shumai (taro, baby corn, young soy beans, mushrooms, carrots, wood ear mushrooms) ~ Vegan Bean Curd Skin Roll (steamed) ~ Vegan Joy Love Noodle (hand-pulled noodles, cha shui, sesame paste, soy sauce, chili oil, preserved veg, pickled daikon, cucumber) Sadly, we didn't have space for dessert (next time!). But the service was very good -- our hostess/server helped us in picking items that fit our dietary needs, provided suggestions, and could not have been nicer. There is a cash discount (based on previous reviews, it varies) so if you come, bring cash and reap the benefits! (But credit cards are accepted).

Yelp
We stopped in after a visit to the trailer park bar down the street and let me tell you, it was the BEST Chinese I've ever had in the city. Maybe even across the country! We ordered the crab lollipops, Singapore noodles, pineapple fried rice, cream cheese wontons, and Peking duck. ALLLL were delicious, but the star for me was the duck. It was perfect! I love duck so much, but sometimes it's overly gamy, oily or dry. This duck was none of that. It was perfectly cooked. So tasty with the most light and crisp skin. Chefs kiss. Our server Michelle was so sweet and funny. She had great recommendations and was an excellent waitress. Thank you Michelle for making our party laugh and serving up the most delicious food. Good luck with your new baby boy!

Yelp
Came here on a weekend for lunch with a friend as we were in the area and had heard many good reviews about the restaurant. We were quickly seated and picked out a few dishes to share, most of which were appetizers/ small plates and one entree. We ordered the lotus root, crab lollipops, steamed shrimp and chives dumplings, and the joy love noodles. All the dishes were very delicious, but if one cannot really eat spicy foods, I would avoid getting a spicy dish or if possible ask the dish to be made mild. The decor around the restaurant had a blend of Chinese cultural elements which was nice to see and during the time we went, there were not too many people so we were able to speak without noise. Overall, this is a nice restaurant and I would come back to try their other dishes from the menu.

Yelp
Had a lovely dinner here on a weeknight! I made a reservation, but the restaurant was somewhat empty when I was there so I don't think I needed to make one. It's nicely decorated inside, and I liked the decorations that reminded me of an abacus. Pro tip: as of August 2024, if you check in on Yelp, you get a free chicken shumai dish! I really enjoyed the Dan Dan noodles, fried rice, and sweet and sour fish filets the most. The portion sizes were good, and we ended up getting dishes to go since we couldn't finish everything!

Yelp
(Overall: F) - Despite the positive reviews on Yelp, I found Joy Love Club to be egregiously bad in several axes critical to a restaurant. Not only is the food of poor quality and also mislabeled, but the service was somehow worse. The staff member we explained such inconsistencies to did not provide any solutions to remedy the situation and instead decided to lecture their customers about the cuisine when in fact I literally grew up with this cuisine. At $100 for this unpleasant meal for two, highly do not recommend anyone to visit as you will be left just as disappointed. (Three Color Siu Mai: C) - There were three different types of siu mai, but not three different colors. All of them tasted fine, but they were not well wrapped as they easily fell apart after one bite. There was one with corn that I prefered, another one with mushroom, and a vegetarian one that was less pleasant. (Mini Custard Bun: F) - While these buns looked cute, they had virtually no custard so it was very unpleasant biting into a flavorless bun. Furthermore, these were mislabeled in Chinese as lava buns. (Peking Duck Wraps: F) - This is like an appetizer portion of peking duck, which I felt was overpriced at $15. Not only was it overpriced, their duck was not well made as it was missing the crispiness of that skin that is the entire draw to the dish, Further, biting into this felt like eating a mouthful of dough as the pancake overpowered all other flavor. (Fish Filet Congee: F) - The presentation of this dish speaks for the taste -- it was incomplete; while it was actually seasoned well, it needs more fresh herbs to help develop flavor and color, from scallions to cilantro, as well as some romaine lettuce for some crunch. (Sichuan Green Beans: D) - While these beans were nicely seasoned, they felt overfried and structurally hard when attempting to consume. -- Food: -1 Presentation: E Price: -1 Atmosphere: E Service: -2 Menu: E Overall: -4 F Insta/Beli: @amei_eats

Yelp
Came for dinner during the week and we were able to get a table for 2 without a reservation or waiting. The service is friendly and quick. The menu looks a bit odd with some Szechuan dishes alongside Thai and Indonesian ones, but don't let that put you off, the food here is great. We stuck to Chinese items and ordered the crab and pork soup dumplings which were delicious as well as the chicken dumplings (they come steamed) for appetizers. The chicken dumplings were good, but compared to the other dishes we had did not stand out. We ordered the garlic sauce chicken and cumin lamb for our entrees. Both were superb and matched what we would expect from those same dishes at Han Dynasty, but a bit less oily. The prices and portions are fair and the food was fantastic. I would absolutely go back and am excited to try their other menu items.

Yelp
SO GOOD! I saw this place on tik tok as a review and decided to try it after seeing Hell's Kitchen on broadway, so glad I did! I had the pepper wings and vegetable egg roll for appetizers and the Thai Basil Chicken & Vegetable Pad Thai! OMG... my tastebuds are dancing!!! They are so kind & attentative in the best was! The atmosphere is clean and very pretty inside! The food was fresh and honestly really tasty! I'd say stop in! They have an extensive menu, you really can't go wrong. You'll be glad you came, trust me!

Amber K.

Yelp
Everything was fine! The food was ok and the eggplant was crispy and sweet but nothing special! The food came out fast and the service was fine. We came on a Friday night and it was completely empty other than our table and another one next to us. They do offer free dessert if you pay in cash but we didn't have any on us so if you plan on coming and want free dessert bring some cash.

Jason B.

Yelp
Enjoyed the honey walnut prawns and the pork and crab soup dumplings. Very quiet on a Monday night although they do take (and ask if you have) reservations. Reservations easily made online. If the reservation system confuses you '4 top' essentially means a table for 4.

Ainsley E.

Yelp
Lots of options here but not as many as some dim sum places. I think the strongest dish was the Joy Love Noodles -- very good flavor and came with a heart-shaped egg. Crystal shrimp dumplings were nothing special. Pork and crab soup dumplings were very good. Custard buns were lacking in filling but were very cute, styled to look like pigs. We were the only customers for lunch on a Wednesday, so go then if you want it empty.

Lily L.

Yelp
Amazing and laid back atmosphere for reunions and catching up with friends. I like the Dan Dan noodles, and i like everything that we ordered - quite tasty. The food is not bad, but this 5/5 rating truly comes from a place that the ambiance is wonderful for conversations.

Heather K.

Yelp
Overall I had a good experience at Joy Love Club, we tried a few different appetizers and entrees which all came out fast and were all delicious and flavorful. While the atmosphere is cute and cozy there is a strange smell that is off putting but based on other reviews we stuck it out and were pleased with the food. Although it is New York and I expect a hike in prices, based on portions they are overpriced. It took a while for a server to come over to us but once they figured out who would be serving us our waitress was attentive and so friendly. Overall a good experience and willing to give it another try.

Yelp
I ordered takeout from here for my friend and myself. Ordering was a breeze, and I was given a clear time of when the food would be ready. Pickup was easy, and all the staff were super friendly. I ordered two orders of the vegan char siu baos and one order of vegetarian lo mein. The lo mein was delicious, filled with different veggies. The vegan char siu baos were amazing and reminiscent of when I ate the non vegan version. I would definitely come back!

Suzanne K.

Yelp
The ambiance was nice and the service was so fast ! Michelle helped us pick out the dim sum platter and it was great. The other food we got was the noodles and the kung pao chicken. It was so flavorful and delicious. We left so full !

Ron A.

Yelp
Nice ambiance and very good service from Mayah. We started with the Honey Walnut Shrimp which was quite good; it remained crunchy even covered in sauce. We had two soups...the Shrimp Wonton was good...the Chicken and Mushroom was not a do over. There were three pieces of chopped chicken that consisted of bone and cartilage, nary a shred of meat on them. Accompanying them were three mushrooms. It is not a recommended menu item. The Joy Luck Noodles were decent, with a good bit of heat. The decor and the waitress are definitely worth four stars, but the chicken soup cost a star.

Yelp
I visited last night with a friend. My biggest gripe about this place is their happy hour changes. It says on their website, on Yelp, and on the sign outside the entrance to the restaurant that the happy hour goes until 6:30 pm. However, my friend got there way before 6:30 pm and was told the happy hour now ends at 6 pm. I was disappointed by the complete disparity between this and all of their marketing materials and no offer to make an exception given all of this. My friend and I ordered several dishes to share. The duck rolls were my favorite - so flavorful! The soup dumplings were juicy but not piping hot. We were told the eggplant small plate appetizer was small and we should get the eggplant entree instead but it was actually quite large for 2 people to share so I feel like the waitress was trying to upsell us. The lychee martini was good but didn't taste particularly strong. All in all, I thought the food/drinks were good but a tad overpriced. The happy hour misunderstanding left a sour taste so I'm not sure if I'll go back. We were there before 6:30 pm and it was quite empty so we really didn't need a reservation, but it started to fill up as we left around 8:30 pm.

Kendrick G.

Yelp
Located in the heart of Chelsea on the super busy 8th Avenue strip and just a two minute walk from the 23rd Street (C/E) train stop. My first time here as I had it bookmarked under "Places To Go" for happy hour (Monday through Friday, 4 pm - 6:30 pm). I started with the Paloma cocktail (Patron silver, Fevertree grapefruit soda, fresh lime juice - $8 during happy hour). It was okay. A bit too bitter for my taste. I think the bartender didn't balance out the ingredients the way they should have been. I wouldn't order it again from here. I wanted another drink and I didn't want to mix liquor nor did I want the same cocktail. I went with the Spicy Margarita (Cazadores blanco tequila, lime juice, roasted jalapeño syrup - $8 during happy hour). I definitely enjoyed this one better and would have it again. As for food, there's happy hour as well. A nice selection of dim sum tapas! There's a $6 list and a $9 list. I ordered from both. The crab rangoon ($6) is a must! So delicous that I ordered another one. The portobello spring rolls and chicken soup dumplings (both $6) were good as well. I recommend both. From the $9 happy hour food list I had the heavenly wings and the D-pepper wings. I really enjoyed both (and I do recommend trying both), but my favorite of the two are the heavenly wings. However, both versions are well seasoned and super crunchy. Yum! My server Amy was such a doll and super pleasant. I didn't find out until the end of my visit that it was her first day at the restaurant. She seems like such a vet and a natural. In fact, the entire staff was friendly and worked hard to make sure all tables were being served promptly. I've been here a few times so far and it is high on my list for happy hour spots. The place is beautiful and spacious as well. Loved the decor (and the outside dining area is really nice as well). Highly recommended!

Amanda H.

Yelp
This place was delicious. I highly recommend the Pan Fried Pork Belly Bun (this one seemed to be deep fried, which was very yummy) and Long Pepper with Beef stir fry (super delicious). I personally wouldn't get the Dan Dan Noodles again because it didn't stand out to me. The only down side was the service. We got our total miscalculated and I paid for more than I had ordered. It took a while of going back and forth to resolve this.

Aaron B.

Yelp
Really good food and friendly service. The house specialties are worth checking out. Going early also helped us beat the rush.

Claude R.

Yelp
Having moved from Manhattan 2 years before Covid so much has changed. Joy Love Club opened during Covid and this was my first time - the food was amazing! And even though they had just opened for lunch and I was the only customer Michelle treated me like a superstar! 3 lychee martinis later and this was the perfect mid day escape from the depression that can be NYC.

A'Yanna E.

Yelp
Nice place, decent service, decent food. The server kept forgetting a couple of our drinks and it wasn't busy nor was there more than 3 of us. The wings were a bit more full of chewy skin as if grilled skin on and I think I would've liked them if they were on the crunchy side. The sauce was nice on a chicken wing. I love trying atypical wing flavors. I don't plan to return but go enjoy.

Janice H.

Yelp
Love this place! Food was tasty (and very instagrammable, love their signature heart-shaped egg and crab lollipops), service was very friendly, and this place really pays attention to ambiance. It has this neo-vintage-oriental feel (if that even makes sense) with all the neon signs and even the servers are dressed the part (kind of felt like I was in the matrix). I came on a monday around 6pm with a friend and I was surprised that it was pretty empty, maybe about 30% capacity. If you want to indulge a little, get the crab lollipops. Crispy eggplant is also tasty - sweet, soy sauce-ey, and garlicky. Reminds me of korean soy garlic fried chicken, minus the chicken. And the noodles! Creamy, with subtle mala spice, and tasty pickles. The heart shaped fried egg made it taste better and it was fun to mix up the noodles with the sauce. Two apps and a bowl of noodles was surprisingly filling for the both of us. I heard this place was female and asian owned, so go support!

Danielle A.

Yelp
Food was absolutely amazing. We did have to wait a bit for the food to come out , but did not mind because everything was so good!

Rob M.

Yelp
JLC is a very cool dinner spot. Good food, good drinks, good service, plus really cool decor and overall vibes. It's trendy, fun, and a perfect place to kick off a night out. For food, the pork soup dumplings are exceptional. If you don't order them, know that you will need to live with regret. We ordered at least a half dozen dishes, including the Heavenly Wings and hand-pulled Joy Love Noodles. Everything was delicious, but it bears repeating--get the pork soup dumplings.

Finley B.

Yelp
Excellent soup, dumplings, and spicy garlic edamame! Great service and beautiful ambience too!

Vanessa M.

Yelp
Food (2/5): Got the duck wrap, which was fairly average (2 pieces for around $10) - not very filled, just a small piece of duck with a few vegetables. Got the sizzling truffle beef. This was probably the only dish we liked, though the meat / black pepper sauce was a little too salty for my taste. I couldn't really taste the quality of the meat since it was doused in the sauce; though the Chinese broccoli is a good combo. Eating it with rice made it a lot better. Also got the lobster tail on a bed of hand pulled noodles. This wasn't what I imagined it to be - the sauce was more of a watery gravy, and had peas and some other diced vegetables in it. The dish was very small, and there was one small lobster tail sliced in two. I thought the hand pulled noodles would be flat, they were actually more like ramen, and there were probably 3-4 bites of it, and we had to dig for them in the sauce. Presentation was tidy. Price (2/5): Just cost way too much. Came out to 50 pax and we didn't even order drinks, nor did we have leftovers. 2 entrees and an app for 100... Service (2/5): Everything was fairly slow. Food came in over 40 minutes, including our appetizer which didn't need to be served hot. Took two tries to get the check and we waited probably 15 minutes in between. Ambiance (2/5) - Too loud, my party had to shout to hear each other across the table. Was a little too dark to see the food though it was nicely decorated with neon lights, seemed very hip. Maybe just not my taste.

Lizette V.

Yelp
If there's a place you want to unwind and have Chinese Tapas and beer or wine or cocktails, this is the place. Great cocktail list, great twist on the traditional dishes. A lot of lovely small plates to share! Like Avocado spring rolls and crispy cucumbers. Fresh fish dishes. Spicy kick dishes are there for the brave. Loved the Joy Love Noodles. the duck dim sum , the steamed taro and chive dumplings, and the broccoli dish.

Chanda A.

Yelp
Had a great weeknight dinner at Joy Love Club this week! The menu at Joy Love Club is super easy to navigate as a vegetarian - everything is clearly labeled and there are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options! We ordered: Tofu K-Pao Style - I loved the tofu and veggies on their own, but felt it was a little too dry to eat with rice. Joy Love Noodles - This dish usually comes with meat, but they also offer a vegan version. We ordered it because we wanted something spicy, but there was no discernable heat. Overall unexciting - this is the only dish I wouldn't order again. Crispy Eggplant - These were really good, but eat them when they're nice and crispy as soon as they come out. We picked at them throughout our meal and they became a bit soggy by the end. Vegan Wontons in Chili Oil - I'm not sure what to say about these, except that I'm a little obsessed with them. We unexpectedly received two orders - before we even had a chance to try them our server came to say they accidentally brought an old dish that had gone a little cold, so they brought out a new one and let us keep the old one too. Overall, a good veggie friendly option in Chelsea with a relaxed atmosphere and reasonable pricing. Would definitely go back!

Winni Z.

Yelp
Very relaxing atmosphere during lunch. Our waitress was nice, but nothing exception. I got the Joy Love noodles, which was delicious. Peanut butter flavor mixed with chili oil, bouncy noodles, and the cute heart egg on top. So worth the heartburn afterwards.

Olivia P.

Yelp
Only went once but will probably go again. Took a long time to get our order taken (because we didn't know we had to call them over) and then a long time to receive our food (can't explain this). The food was quite good though! Definitely Manhattan prices. Looks very fancy from the photos but it quite chill and friendly for families.

Meryl S.

Yelp
We discovered this gem after just trying to find places near the city activity we had planned. Not only was the food phenomenal, but our waitress was very attentive and even treated us to some recommendations related to what we might like. We would definitely come back here again.

Melvin S.

Yelp
Just to clarify to the response from the owner.. we were only 2 people eating. We were ripped off. It was 11 dollars cheaper on seamless ... just avoid.

Sanjana D.

Yelp
Such an amazing restaurant! The owner is so sweet, service is top notch, and the overall atmosphere is the best. The food was also SO good, I 100% recommend trying.

Akosua N.

Yelp
The food was delicious!! Ordered the salt and pepper squid (highly recommend), the Chinese greens, cucumber salad and more delicious things. Lovely service - staff were incredibly friendly and helpful! Would visit again

Claire S.

Yelp
The ambiance and service was a 4, but the food was hit and miss. We ordered 6 or so appetizers and a few entrees to share. We really enjoyed the Avocado Roll and the crispy eggplant was OUTSTANDING! However, the crispy beef and the scallion pancakes were a bit disappointing. It's a nice, quiet spot for conversation, so it was perfect for catching up with friends. However, the food was not as good as I was hoping for.

Fiora F.

Yelp
We came on a Saturday around a bit after noon and the whole restaurant was empty and there were just one waitress. Thinking it was a bit odd for NYC during lunchtime we order a few items anyways. The waitress was super attentive and nice told us about the owner and even had the chef came out to say hello to us. We stayed for almost 3 hours and yet we were the only table there so felt like we reserve the whole place . The AC was not cold at all but they let us pick anyone table we want to sit it. Overall the service as we were the only table they had to serve and below are some comments on the food: 1. Peking Duck- Average seems to be a bit old and a tad on the dry side but not bad however not worth to order it again. They also include daikon in addition to the green notion and cucumber which is different from the typically Peking duck dish. 2. Eggplant appetizers - My first impression of the dish is that the color of the eggplant is dull purple rather than bright purple. It was like a tempura eggplant and quite flavorful. 3.Truffle Beef- Beef cubes looks super yummy but when I took a bite it was 100% tasteless and texture was like hard rubber. The veggies were overpowering with black pepper and on the salty side. I think the dish would been more successful if the beef has more flavor and more tender while the veggies is on the light side for a more balanced flavor.

Yelp
I think overall, this is a solid restaurant. I think the real highlights are the service and the ambience. Servers were attentive and very friendly. Any questions you had, they were always willing to answer or find out answers for you. The ambiance of the restaurant just had great vibes. Loved the decor. You have this feeling of dining in a speakeasy, and it was fantastic. Really fit the atmosphere. The food itself was good. Loved the crispy skin on the roast duck. The lamb chops were tender and had the perfect amount of spice and kick to make your meal exciting. I think the only thing that was more difficult was the portion size. Yes, this restaurant is built around small plates and tapas style dining. I would say it's perfect for a date night or for a group of 3. But when we went with a group of 8, it immediately became noticeable that it would be difficult to share a meal because portion sizes were not meant for such a large group. So just be aware, great date spot. Maybe not the most optimal space for large group dining haha. But otherwise, a good restaurant to visit for the good vibes :)

Yelp
I have passed by this place a few times. Been wanting to try it. Finally got the chance. Goad i did. The place is nice. Service was prompt. The food was very good. And unique. The noodles were kinda of plain. But the dumplings were great. We all shared the duck. That was great. Good vibe. Friendly staff. Prices were ok. Recommended

Yelp
Came here on a quiet Tuesday and loveeeee the ambience and service. The people there really bring the joy and love into everything they do. JL Noods: yummmm and they have a vegetarian version too so you can bring any non-meat eating friends & family Duck: Good, standard with all the prepped veggies laid out. Only "con" is that you won't get to see the full duck before carving and they do keep the carcass for their other menu items so you won't be able to take that home with you

Yelp
This place is incredibly good! I got the mushroom dumplings, spring rolls, vegetable fried rice & vegan noodles with a tofu add on. Everything is cooked really well and I loved the detail to presentation. We were filled to say the least ;)! Michelle toke care of us and was very sweet! Definitely would suggest, esp if you're w/ a group of friends. Amazing dishes for splitting & wonderful customer service

Yelp
Immediately very sick after eating here. We had lunch specials of Drunken Noodles and Broccoli with Soy Ginger (both with chicken). Crispy eggplant as an appetizer. The broccoli with soy ginger was especially salty. Barely anyone was in the restaurant. Now I know why!

Yelp
Keepin it real out here at East Village Hands down one of the best fusion spots ever. Pretty mind blown by all the creative yet authentic dishes after eating Chinese cuisine my whole life. Charming spot in a great location with very friendly service. It's one of the few restaurants we suggest to friends when they visit NYC. Great operation and can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Joy Love Club has a really great menu with so many options for everyone. I visited with a few other friends who decided to go with family-style dining and were able to try many different offerings off of the menu. I decided to go with the dry pepper-style tofu which is incredibly crisp and incorporated fresh peppercorns to provide flavor and spice. The dish had the right amount of heat and the portion was quite sizable. I also decided to order the scallion pancakes which are one of my favorite starters at Chinese restaurants. The scallion pancakes did not disappoint and they were paired with a great soy-based dipping sauce. Overall, Joy Love Club is a great location for small or large groups. The food is flavorful and the service is quick. Definitely a great spot to check out if you're in the area.

Yelp
Great authentic Chinese food. Asked the manager for her suggestions and glad we did! The shu mai was delicious and just made! We also loved the black pepper steak cubes, broccoli and pineapple fried rice. We left feeling satisfied with no heaviness nor greasy feeling. I almost forgot the amazing Joy Love Martini! Will definitely be back.
