Clique Hospitality Opening Joya Organic Kitchen at the Boardwalk in Torrey Pines | Eater San Diego

"Slated to open by mid-February 2022 at the Boardwalk at Science Center Drive, Joya Organic Kitchen will anchor a 195,000-square-foot life sciences hub in Torrey Pines; the 4,000-square-foot indoor-outdoor space is being positioned to serve breakfast, lunch, and happy hour to employees and the surrounding community while also offering venues for private and corporate events, from meetings to weddings. Executive chef Jojo Ruiz, who created the menus for Serea and Lionfish, will run the kitchen with chef de cuisine Ryan Bulluck, and the menu is planned to range from smoothies and acai bowls for breakfast to daily seasonal lunch specials, with grab-and-go salads and sandwiches available." - Candice Woo

Google
Found this place hidden in a business center. The dinning room is a large attractive open space great patio. Sandwich were large and tasty. Tuna Melt and Club were yummy. No waitress order at counter . Liked it very much

Google
The BURGER was delicious. I am gonna need that again soon. It has caramelized onions, garlic aioli and cheddar. The beef was so good and it was cooked perfectly. The fries are really good too. The seasoning on the steak burrito was not my thing, but I liked the salad and the dressing. I had the food delivered, so I haven't seen the restaurant yet, it looks so cute. Check the hours though, it's closed on the weekends and closes early. I love the look of the menu, the tuna melt is definitely on my list. I have been meaning to try this place for a while. I am so glad I did. That burger made me very happy.

Google
It was an amazing event space, great food, and tons of stuff to do. The event was completely outdoors and the weather was perfect, low 70’s. There was plenty of shade when the sun came out. They had a good mixture of beer, mixed drinks and wine too.

Google
Very quiet when I was there. Really good club sandwich, lots of fresh veggies and awesome artisan bread. Salad was a bit wilted but not terrible... Should have gotten fries.

Noelle

Google
Never been here before but just had an accidental order sent through door dash. The receptionist was so kind after I called several times dealing with door dash to cancel. Thank you. I look forward to trying Joya soon.

Gaspar “.

Google
Had the Tuna Poke Bowl and it was delightful. The space has a zen quality even though I was surrounded by professional level conversations and "meetings". A truly productive vibe here.

Google
I did not have any food so I can’t review the eats…..but the beer and kombucha at the bar was fantastic. At one point, the bartender had a long line of people and worked nonstop to serve drinks to everyone. She was even shaking a cocktail 🍹 she was making for a customer while someone else was talking to her and another person was taking pictures of her. The location is professionally decorated and the bathrooms are clean. I would meet at Joya Kitchen again for another professional meeting if I needed a nice space in the Torrey Pines business area. I took an Uber to the location but I was picked up and parking 🅿️ each time was a little confusing. The signed helped a little. On a funny note; I walked by a table with some left over chips and guacamole. If only I had the nerve to taste it I would have an opinion of the food to share now. 🤓

Google
Outstanding space, great service and food was tasty. Will come back again next time I have a chance.

Yelp
Came specifically for a tuna melt, which was alright, but nothing major and not sure I'd pay $18 for this again. The fries were decent, but again, nothing crazy Best thing about this place is the courtyard and the ample seating and ambiance. They boast amazing canyon views , but not quite accurate

Yelp
Joya Kitchen remains a lighter and convenient option to meet with colleagues or grab a nutritious meal, albeit a little pricey for a quick bite. They have updated their menu items while keeping dietary restrictions in mind, and offer an order ahead for dine-in option now on their online ordering system, which is convenient for group orders or if you're on the go. They do offer happy hour, and I've been a few times without complaints! Parking is a private lot but is shared with the nearby businesses

Yelp
I truly enjoy coming to Joya! It's in a convenient location, but their hours are limiting for me. They are only open weekdays til 3 pm, except Thursday when they have happy hour until 7 pm. They have a nice fresh menu and a full bar. I really liked the grilled shrimp tacos and the Winter Whiskey cocktail. I've been many times and I always enjoy the spacious dining area and patio! They can host large group events too.

Yelp
Food is always fresh, and service is quick. Area is very clean and there is a variety of seating to choose from.

Yelp
Great ambiance, fantastic food, great service, first class venue 10/10. I attended a society social meeting and the stet up with internal and external settings was fantastic also great bar.
google avatar

Yelp
Great lunch option if you work in the area. On the pricier end if you don't work in the building and have the building discount. Beautiful open space inside and out to enjoy your meal. There was a good variety of food options from sandwiches, salads, smoothies, to tacos. I got the shrimp tacos. Although I enjoyed the taco flavors, there was too much tortilla for the amount of filling. Fries were delicious.
google avatar

Jalal B.

Yelp
Repulsive shrimp burrito that took wayyy too long to be served despite no one in front of me, followed by one of the worst iced lattes I've ever tried despite a nice machine. It tasted like it was brewed with regular coffee beans instead of espresso beans. Severely overpriced. I don't know what the boardwalk complex's discount is but it must be steep if these folks are staying in business. On the bright side, if you had a crew of a 100 people you could comfortably fit them here.

Yelp
We decided to try happy hour with some friends. My husband and kids came along since I heard about their open concept space and outdoor games. The place is conveniently located off the 5 freeway taking the Genesee Ave exit and heading east. You go up the hill slightly and make a right and the restaurant is in a corporate area. You'll see the signage on the right and you can either park in the front of the building or the back (which we did). Free parking anywhere and there's quite a bit of space. When we arrived it was around 530pm. There was one large party and us. A half hour later it got pretty busy. We ordered our food and drinks at the counter and found a booth to share. There is ample seating and great for large groups. There is indoor and outdoor seating available as well as bar seating. The place is large scale and lots of outdoor games and grassy areas to pass the time esp at happy hour. We ordered the chips and salsa and guac, garlic fries, burger, and steak quesadilla. My husband got a canned happy hour drink which was pretty tasty. My kids enjoyed the fries. Good portion and came out crispy. The chips and salsa/guac and pretty standard. I would have preferred my guac to have more citrus flavoring (squeeze of lime maybe?); a little bland. The burger had 2 patties with cheese. My stomach was ehhh after and I couldn't figure out if it was too greasy for me or my stomach was just upset. My daughter likes the quesadilla. Came with 3 slices and was filling. We enjoyed the outdoor space very much. My kids loved running around and playing with the corn hole game. There's also a pool table inside and ping pong tables and foosball available outdoor. I would def come back just because my kids enjoyed themselves so much. Happy hour is only Tues-Thursday until 7p with last call to order food at 6pm. Get there early to enjoy the space! Too bad they aren't open on weekends otherwise we would be here all the time!!!

Yelp
I've been wanting to check out Joya for a while now, but their hours were very limited. I was able go one Friday afternoon for happy hour back in August! The area is very spacious! There is a pool table inside and ping pong in the lawn area. We sat at the bar and I decided to try their blue green ocean smoothie. It came with blueberries, pineapple, banana, coconut, agave, spiralina, and kale. It was nice of them to split it for us. It was a darker blue than I normally see with spirulina, but was very refreshing and healthy! From the happy hour menu, we chose the tuna poke bowl and Baja shrimp tacos. The food was pretty good and were nice portions. We ran into a friend of ours and she let us try some of her food. I had some of the quesadilla, fries, and salad. Everything was very tasty!

Yelp
One of my Yelp Elite friends, Alicia, invited me here on a Friday afternoon for Happy Hour. It was delicious!! I didn't realize that it had just recently opened. Looks to be only a month ago or so. Located in La Jolla area of San Diego, CA. According to their website - Joya is a contemporary, approachable restaurant serving organic farm-fresh menu items, daily specials, and delicious salads, sandwiches, and pressed juices. "This area of La Jolla is a central hub for some of our county's biggest innovators in science, medicine, and technology," said Clique Hospitality Founder, Andy Masi. "We wanted to create a space where some of San Diego's brightest minds as well as locals and visitors to the area, could come together over organic, fresh, delicious food while soaking up the beauty of Joya's open restaurant concept. With Chef Jojo Ruiz taking the lead on Joya's culinary direction, our guests can anticipate a fantastic, seasonal, and ingredient-driven menu." I tried the following - (1) Island Matcha Cocktail (2) Avocado Toast (3) Grilled Baja Shrimp Tacos (4) Ceviche Verde My friend also ordered a Winter Whiskey Cocktail. I'm a fan of everything! Food, cocktails, vibe were all amazing!

Yelp
Joya Kitchen is a new onsite restaurant at The Boardwalk on Science Center Dr which is a corridor for numerous biopharmaceutical companies. The suite is rather hidden from the main road so you park in the front lot and then walk towards the back of the structure to reach Joya. The place is very large and modern with an open air atmosphere. Its location is very convenient for tenants of the same building and those at the next door addresses. Breakfast hours are from 8:00 to 11:00 am. Ten main dishes, six smoothies, four juices, and various coffee and espresso made up the morning menu. Lunch is between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm. Small plates, salads, soups, bowls, wraps, sandwiches, and entrees were the menu categories. On Thursday and Friday, Happy Hour runs from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. Plenty of healthy food choices were available. I chose a build your own entree consisting of one protein (Faroe Island Salmon), two greens & grains (Roasted Herb Potatoes, Roasted Seasonal Vegetables), and one sauce (Green Goddess). The salmon fillet included a charred skin that added a crispy texture. The roasted vegetables were seasoned well and had a good flavor to them. The cost for this lunch was $22 which was expensive, but it was typical of their prices. This space is great for hosting small meetings or doing some work on a laptop away from the desk while eating or drinking. With many employees working remotely now, I would be concerned that not enough people will come and patronize Joya Kitchen to sustain the business in the long run.

Yelp
This place never disappoints me. I eat here pretty much everyday I work. The food is always good! Kudos to the chef that prepares the food but Maddie the awesome person with blonde hair is the best! The effort she puts in for her job is extraordinary. She can even go as far as learning your name for regulars and actually takes the time to speak with them! (Of course when she can) but I appreciate this kind of service as it's makes customers feel special in their own way! If you are seeing this Maddie you are awesome and thank you for being you! I have no complaints on the workers here as they are all amazing it's just Maddie stands out the most!

Yelp
Such a hidden gem. My friend and I came for happy hour and Alex took care of us and was super friendly. She provided great recommendations and is super bubbly. Our food came out quickly and tasted great.
google avatar

Nessie B.

Yelp
I found the perfect place to work remotely! The seating is very comfortable and allows me to get work done for a couple of hours. The views of the mountains are gorgeous, and the outside setting is top-tier. However, the coffee here is not good, and the food lacks flavor. Nonetheless, I don't come here for the food. it's just a nice place to work from.

Yelp
What an awful customer service. I don't even get to experience their kitchen because the manager was extremely rude. I was at the dancing event organised by Majesty in motion. I brought my own bottle with much needed medicine inside of the bottle. Majesty's security couldn't explain why it's not allowed, and simply asked me to leave. That's a whole different story. I'm here to address Joya's manager's action. I was suggested to speak with Joya's owner to address this question on why my water with medicine isn't allowed. Security of Joya (or the property) invited Joya's manager. Instead of hearing me and my question, and simply be nice at least, he right away said that I can't bring my own beverage to this place, and he doesn't have to explain why. I tried telling him that I never have a problem bringing my own water to any restaurant. He said that if I go to a club, They wouldn't allow me. What Joya kitchen has to do with a club? Well, I guess tonight it was because of the dancing event. Anyhow, I've asked if he knows the law section that would explain how it's not allowed to bring own water with much needed medicine deluged in it. He kept interrupting telling me he doesn't owe me any explanations, and simply walked away. WOW, what a "great" representation of Joya. I don't recommend this place to anyone because if you have a simple question that is addressed to the manager, you won't be heard, you'll be interrupted and rudely ignored. 1 star for a terrible customer service.

Yelp
I recently hosted an event at Joya/The Boardwalk. Everything went very smoothly - I appreciated Kristin's flexibility with many last minute changes. The venue was responsiveness to our questions and set-up needs. Our event ran very smoothly thanks to their attention to detail and care. The food was all delicious as well. The venue itself is stunning, great views of the canyon and excellent amenities for hosting meetings and events. I highly recommend considering Joya for lunch and the Boardwalk for your next meeting or event!

Yelp
Beautiful place to have a business meeting. My team and I spent the day here for our retreat, so we had breakfast and lunch here. Smoothies and lattes were really good. Good lunch options too. My team enjoyed their sandwiches, burger and salads. Prices are a bit steep for what it is, but you're paying for atmosphere too. We spent the morning indoors and moved outside in the afternoon. The outside area was a little loud because there was a lot of helicopter activity happening at the time.
google avatar

Yelp
WOW I'm so impressed I ordered this through Foodja for a lunch meeting and let people pick what they'd like for their entree I got the shrimp keto bowl and I am beyond impressed with the quality and even more impressed that it was delivered and tasted so fresh and was still warm. People also ordered smoothies and they also arrived cold and not melted and everyone raved. This will def be on rotation for me for work lunches.
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered the Mediterranean Chicken Plate to-go and it was very underwhelming. The portions were so small for everything. I got 4 pieces of chicken and my friend got 3 pieces. I had higher expectations. Maybe it's different if I didn't order to-go though. I haven't been able to eat there in person.
google avatar

Yelp
What a hidden GEM. Quick, easy and delicious. The vibe is perfect. The staff is very friendly. We tired all types of goodies. The selection has something to offer to everyone. It's beautiful inside. They have a great outdoor area where theirs games like corn hole. You can enjoy a beer, great meal and unwind.

Yelp
Disclaimer: This review is NOT for the food (I have not tried it), but for the space and the coffee I got. I came here during their soft opening phase, I had seen it on Instagram and decided to try doing some work here! Atmosphere: YES YES YES. THIS PLACE IS BEAUTIFUL. I absolutely LOVED the space. There are so many seating options, from tables, to booths, to more closed booths, to single tables, to outdoor seating. Doing a group project? Come here. Working alone for a few hours? Come here. Catching up with a friend or two?? Come here. The space really makes this place. Its huge with tons of bathroom stalls. I also must say the space was sparkling and well maintained. It was completely empty when I came, but again it was still very new (did not have any reviews on yelp at the time). I do have the say it was pretty tucked away and difficult to find at first, but I was determined. I can't say I can imagine someone coming here because they just stumbled upon it. Wifi worked well the entire time I was here as well. There were tons of outlets which is a huge plus. Drink: I got a regular vanilla late, I forgot the cost but it was EXPENSIVE. Like really expensive. It was very meh as well. I would take my review of the drink with a grain of salt since it was right when they opened the place. I would give it another try though, and maybe look at more reviews before ordering it. I would 100% come back. I also really want to try the food options as well. Its hard to know if this place can survive because the space is huge, I hope it thrives and continues to be open!!

Yelp
Today we lunched at a newly opened casual eatery called Joya Organic Kitchen which offers an organic seasonal menu. The food was great and their delicious berry smoothie (sans banana) was perfect for a hot day like today! Since we had a late lunch, we missed the lunch crowd and literally had the place all to ourselves! There's plenty of seating inside or out plus there's an area inside where one can play a game of pool or foosball and a lawn area outside where one can relax and soak up the sun. Check them out here: https://joyakitchensd.com

Yelp
TL;DR (+) AMAZING place to study/work (+) Beautiful ambiance (+) Food is really health (-) Food is expensive (-) Restaurant is a hard to find (tucked away) (-) Small parking lot I heard about this place on Tik Tok and had to give it a try! It's basically a huge seating area that offers both indoor and outdoor seating with a small cafe in the corner. The interior design and layout of this place is immaculate. I had a smoothie with peanut butter and chia seeds in it (I forgot what it's called.) The smoothie is made fresh and extremely healthy but it is pretty pricey. It wasn't very sweet and didn't taste like much really but it was filling. The menu is a wide variety of foods, ranging from coffee and smoothies to breatkfast burritos and bagels. The food overall is very healthy and fresh. The place itself is a little hard to find. It is tucked away behind an office building. To get there, you have to drive around the office building where you fill find just a couple parking spots. Although parking was limited, there were very few people there.

Yelp
We hosted a corporate happy hour at Joya Kitchen for around 50 guests. The event manager, Brittany, was very responsive and easy to work with. We had passed appetizers, bar service and dessert. The kitchen was accommodating with food allergies. The outdoor patio is a really great setting with fun lawn games! Overall we really enjoyed the food and experience at Joya Kitchen.
google avatar

Ava B.

Yelp
The fries are the best! You're gonna love the food! It's a good place to free you're mind after work!
google avatar

Meredith J.

Yelp
I LOVE this place!! What a gem among the research institutes and centers. The food is fantastic and it's so thoughtfully designed for casual and business meetings. The people are super friendly and helpful. It's great for a breakfast meeting to a happy hour with colleagues--I repeat- I love this place!
google avatar

Bree W.

Yelp
We recently hosted a large industry event at Joya kitchen, and the venue, service and ambiance was absolutely top-notch. Brittany and team were there for us every step of the way and could not have been more accommodating. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Cheyne T.

Yelp
Stopped by for breakfast and had a great experience! We had their iced latte, berry smoothie, breakfast burrito, and tomato soup w/ grilled cheese which were all very tasty. Overall nice spot if you're looking for healthy and yummy eats! The space is really nice and they also have happy hour. Customer service was excellent as well.
google avatar

Tricia G.

Yelp
Great ambiance and service is usually good. Food is tasty but a bit pricey. Had to post a heads up to people to pass on the chicken skewer featured on their monthly barbecue menu as it costs $12 and is a single skewer (maybe 4 ounces of chicken max) with two cherry tomatoes and a couple onions. That's it!!! Massive rip off.
google avatar

Juliana C.

Yelp
I stopped at Joya's after work, What a surprising delicious health menu they have! Bruna was awesome on helping me choosing and I got the Mediterranean Chicken Plate, I loved everything about it, specially the sauce! I also tried the chocolate chip cookie, so good! I would definitely come back to try more things on the menu and extra points for the friendly service

Randee S.

Yelp
Our food was excellent. my husband was having a stay at Scripps Hospital and it was much better to pick up food here than the hospital food. The Tuna Melt was excellent as well as the Blue Eye Tuna Bowl.

Kelsie S.

Yelp
Drinks are fine, but beware of extra charges. The menu listed the passion margarita as $11, but we were charged $12 + a $3 surcharge so the total came out to $16 per drink after tax. Then they want a tip on top of this. Some in our party were charged the surcharge while others were not depending on which drink was ordered.
google avatar

Caz P.

Yelp
Beautiful Indoor/Outdoor venue perfect for Lunch... Plenty of Beverage options (Beer & Wine too), Breakfast/Bowls/Sandwiches... they had a Chicken Alfredo special today that was phenomenal... Handful of Social Games to play outdoors for a quick boost of serotonin
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
Top quality organic food in a great location. Other reviewers whining about the prices being higher should stick with McDonald's!
google avatar

Michael F.

Yelp
Love its menu selection- healthy choices!! Very good food!!! Love its surroundings if the weather is ideal. Service was typical as we ordered food from the counter.

MT G.

Yelp
I have been eating the tuna sandwich here and it has been wonderful. the best part is the spring sprouts, tomatoes, and fried onion and the sandwich looks full and fluffy. today, they replaced with mustard and American cheese, and the sandwich looked lopsided. if yku are running out of veggies, dont assume that people would like the mustard and cheese. the chef needs to inform the front people what goes into the sandwich has changed
google avatar

Alex H.

Yelp
Been coming here for a while now and the food is always incredible! I love their salmon bowl and the French fries are addicting. Happy hour is a great deal and the service is always phenomenal! Will be back for sure! (:

Eduardo F.

Yelp
I went for breakfast. Just had a Danish which was good. The coffee was small and overpriced. The service slow and I had to ask for napkins. There were not many customers at 9:30 in the morning. I will come back for lunch sometime soon and make a judgement at that time. I hope that they can handle it I will be there with a very large group.
google avatar

Dan G.

Yelp
Looks great, love the views, solid food. Looking forward to returning.

Yelp
We went on a lab retreat there for the day (lab from UCSD) recently for a conference. The place and the food were fine, but the service was pretty terrible. The lady helping us out was pretty obnoxious frankly, she made a mistake on the number of our party and then claimed that we were wrong and was adamant until we showed her the confirmation email. Then after lunch, we actually found a mouse in the conference room we were in!! But no apologies from them whatsoever, and they were strict about the time for the conference room later, we were booked until 2pm and they said they would charge us for overuse. I think overall it was a shocking experience of hospitality overall. Maybe we weren't good enough (paying wise) clientele for them? I don't know but I do know that I will never go back there again. I repeat: we found a mouse and they did not care at all.

Shelly S.

Yelp
The staff, food and space at Joya Kitchen are excellent. We recently held a corporate breakfast and everything was perfect. The staff is attentive and hospitable and they got it all right! The space is amazing and our breakfast, coffee and smoothie's were so delicious. It was all done perfectly. Thank you Joya - we'll be back!

BC H.

Yelp
Great food, great service, great drinks, great social hour, and even better a little game and chill oasis. Another hidden gem in SD, pressed between an office building community, this place is not at all what I was expecting. Granted, I had no clue what to expect but this was not it, and in the best way possible. Our server was amazing and recommended her favorites. The shrimp curry and tuna sandwich, both outstanding. The drink options alcoholic and N/A were phenomenal, and the ability to play ping pong, or foosball before or after eating in a chill indoor or outdoor environment = winning !

Chris H.

Yelp
I hosted a sales meeting in their meeting facility- this is the second time we've used the space, and the experience is always great!. The room and facility are beautiful, with a view out to the canyons around Torrey Pines. The AV systems are seamless and never fail/glitch. The food was very good (Chicken Herb Wraps and a very fresh and tasty salad). Brennan and Brittany were so great to work with, and the rest of the staff made it a great day. Would recommend to anyone.

Nolan H.

Yelp
Food is always fresh and high quality; smoothies are unique and I enjoyed every flavor I tried so far. Happy hour has awesome deals with different options from the regular every day menu and everything seems delicious - can't wait to come back and try more!

Ryan B.

Yelp
Love this "hidden gem"! It's very close to the freeway so access is quick and easy, food is always great and comes out fast. It is counter service so there can be a line during lunch time, BUT you can scan one of the QR codes on their tables to order and pay from your phone or order through the website for dine in as well. I really enjoy their burger, shrimp tacos and mediterranean chicken bowl.
google avatar

Tasnuva C.

Yelp
It's a beautiful and spacious arrangement. I love cafes and whenever I go I prefer avocado toast! I ordered avocado toast and latte here. But the bread of the avocado toast was extremely hard! I was struggling with it! Avocado toast itself was extremely dry but pricey! Even the latte was just alright! Hopefully they will try to improve their food. Otherwise It's a beautiful place!

Bruna M.

Yelp
Amazing food, excellent service and great atmosphere! Joya offers a great selection of different types of delicious dishes. Keto Shrimp Curry Bowl, Salmon Sucio and Steak Burrito are just a few of my favorites here! Love this place!
google avatar

Soyokaze Y.

Yelp
It's a beautiful location and setup but food was mediocre. Had a steak sandwich that was way too salty and chewy. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing.
