"The Detroit-style pizzas at Joyride in the Mission are a sight to behold—they’re loaded with a mountain of toppings that the Mission Cliffs crowd would eagerly climb. Their pizzas are especially what you need when you’re trying to stave off the spins with a hefty slice piled high with toppings like pepperoni, bacon, or brussels sprouts. The Detroit-style pies coming out of this counter-service spot, located across the theater in Yerba Buena Gardens, are hefty bricks—but you won’t feel weighed down after eating one. The crust is crisp and airy, and topping combinations, like the Eat Your Veggies loaded with fresh vegetables, are light. "If you're catching a daytime movie at the Metreon, don’t fill up on popcorn and $7 Icees (as tempting as it may be)—just swing by Joyride Pizza in Yerba Buena Gardens for a pre- or post-movie lunch instead. The Detroit-style pies coming out of the casual counter-service spot have caramelized cheese walls and dough that stays light and airy underneath the toppings, which range from plain cheese to pepperoni and a thick stripe of tomato sauce to a veggie combination with brussels sprouts, mushrooms, and olives. "The pies from Joyride Pizza are encyclopedia-thick behemoths that are surprisingly light—the focaccia-like crusts stay airy underneath a mountain of toppings, and the crisp bottoms crackle when you bite into them. Toppings range from classic pepperoni and Italian sausage to things you’d find at a farmer’s market stall—brussels sprouts, arugula, and fig jam. And the slightly sweet tomato sauce is so good you’ll want to order even more on the side for dipping. "Despite looking like dense bricks, the Detroit-style pies at Joyride Pizza have an airy crust that avoids a soggy fate under a mountain of toppings. And we really do mean a mountain. Pies are covered with what feels like an entire garden’s worth of vegetables like brussels sprouts, tomatoes, or arugula, or have thick stripes of tomato sauce running across the top. Crispy outer cheese walls caramelized to deep golden-brown and slightly sweet house tomato sauce we’d gladly funnel into our mouths are other reasons to love these pies.
