Yelp
Ju-ichi is a Japanese restaurant that mainly specializes in sushi. The restaurant lies within a mini strip mall in the Convoy area. Parking can be hard to find here specifically; and though there is street parking available, depending on the day/night, it can be a little tedious to find a spot (but that's Convoy for you). I've been here two times now and both times have had an excellent experience. This past time, my friends and I randomly decided to come here spontaneously due to a craving for sushi, and happened upon their happy hour.
Food-wise: I can be a sushi snob at times, but Ju-ichi has a great selection of sushi options. They source a good deal of their ingredients from Japan and it shows in the quality of the food. This time, I tried the sashimi omakase (chef's choice), which is relatively pricey but I'd say it was worth it due to the amount of cuts you receive and their quality. It came with side dish of wasabi and peaches. They have a variety of other options such as a la carte sushi, nigiri, sashimi, special rolls, hand rolls, rice bowls, and appetizers.
Drink-wise: as noted earlier, we came in for happy hour and boy the happy hour deal for beer was great at $5 drafts. We had the Harland Japanese Lagers and they were fantastic.
Service-wise: the employees here were excellent. Our group came in without a reservation, and the servers were super polite about it and moved things around so we could be seated immediately. They were also very attentive and made sure to check in periodically to see if we were good and needed anything, but not at a rate that would make it disruptive or bothersome. We sat at the sushi bar, so we were able to converse with the sushi chef. He was very knowledgeable of the sushi and where each of the ingredients were sourced. He even let us try some of the fresh wasabi.
Ambiance-wise: Ju-ichi is a fairly small restaurant, but with the decor and seating, it makes it a good balance of intimate but still enough space to be relaxed The restaurant is kept very clean which is another plus.
In summary: Ju-ichi is a great option for those looking for good sushi that price-wise doesn't hit that higher-quality omakase dining level. There are plenty of other options such as rice bowls and special rolls as well for those that aren't into just nigiri or sashimi. I have not had a bad experience here yet and definitely will be back in the future and have as a recommendation for others.
