70 New Restaurants and Bars That Have Opened in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"I found a modern Japanese sushi bar from chef Nghi Dao offering a $100 omakase alongside a la carte sashimi, nigiri, temaki, and specialty rolls, plus small plates and specials like roasted bone marrow with shiso chimichurri and maitake mushroom tempura, with a notable sake program featuring bottles and flights." - Candice Woo

Google
Absolutely incredible! We have dined in with Chef Nghi and have ordered their Epic board for take out and every time it has been nothing short of incredible. We’ve tried just about all the high-end sushi spots in San Diego and we’re always left impressed by chef Nghi! Not only is their fish so fresh and their rolls fun and creative but the service is top notch! I highly recommend Ju-ichi!

Google
The service was exceptional—friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The food… **WOW!** Every bite was a delight. The sushi was incredibly fresh, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor. The fish melted in my mouth, the rice was perfectly seasoned, and the creative rolls were a delicious surprise. Don’t miss the chef’s specials—they’re worth every penny!

Google
Amazing service and fresh fish I loved their selection of special fish that they had, that usually cannot be found everywhere else. The handroll, nigiris had amazing texture and flavors to them. Definitely will be back every time I’m in San Diego. I would love to try Chef’s Omakase next time!

Google
Sushi quality was mid. The toro was the worst I’ve ever tried. Tasted a bit off to be honest. Very expensive for what you get. Crab salad has a gritty texture. Will not be going back.

Google
Food was phenomenal and they had a great variety in selections of different dishes. The yellowtail crudo was our absolute favorite but even the more classic dishes like the salmon skin roll were done really well. Would also recommend the grilled oysters, or hashtag and bestie rolls. Service was solid and all of the staff was extremely friendly and laid back.

Google
Outstanding Mother’s Day omakase dinner with Ni, Ronald, Kay and Emily. We been to some great award winning restaurants around the world, but Ju Ichi stands out because of the care and passion that is evident in the menu and quality of the dishes that Ni and crew create and execute. We’ve been to JunIchi several times but the omakase for Mother’s Day was particularly outstanding. The menu was modern and creative but in keeping with classic taste profiles of traditional Japanese. It was simply delicious, the presentation was world class and the service was excellent. I go to Japan a lot and I would put Ju Ichi up against the the best I’ve been to. We will definitely go again. Thanks Ni, Ronald, Kay and Emily for cooking for us as if we were family, great work!!!!

Google
We had the Sunday Omakase experience. To put it simply, WOW! 🤩 🤩🤩 The best Japanese food I’ve ever had, including having spent time in Tokyo. The food is thoughtful, exactingly executed, and sublime. 11 courses, many of which featured multiple components (so this is more like a 25 course / piece menu). Most dishes were prepared with fresh seasonal fish flown in from Japan. You simply won’t find this selection of sushi and sashimi nearly anywhere else. And next week some items will be different based on what is freshest in Japan at the moment. I tried to remember to take photos as the courses came, but sometimes got too excited and forgot. Sorry! Will give you an excuse to go try it. My wife was celebrating a major birthday, so they gave us and everyone a complimentary shot of sake at the end. Very nice of them. You must try this gem - one of San Diego’s best!

Google
Not a large restaurant and reservations are necessary but very worth it as they made it a special evening. All dishes were super flavorful like the gazpacho, the mushroom salad, and different rolls. The karrage was prepared perfectly imo. We will be returning.

Yelp
We've been here twice now. Love the intimacy of the sushi bar, excellent service both times. The first time we went we had a variety of fish (mostly dealers choice), clam miso soup was amazing, and a snow crab small rice dish. We loved it so much we went back a few months later for their Sunday tasting menu. What a treat! An intimate setting with the restaurant staff. It was a large tasting menu with a variety of food, tapas, pasta, sashimi, fry break, nigiri, and much more. We had a great time tasting through the menu and did the sake pairing as well. I highly recommend this experience and we will be back!

Yelp
Small and cozy. We ordered off of their HH menu and regular menu. Service was attentive. The sake flight was smooth. Oysters were fresh! Everything else was good, but for what we paid; I'd would have preferred other local places. Glad I got to try it. I probably would return to have the omakase over the regular menu.

Yelp
If you're craving sushi and a good happy hour, this spot has your name all over it. Pro tip: make a reservation. The restaurant is on the cozy side, so one big group could easily take over the whole place. We lucked out with Maddie as our server--she was fantastic, even when the restaurant started to get busy. She hyped up the barracuda sashimi, and wow... she wasn't lying. Lightly smoked, buttery, and melt-in-your-mouth perfection. The oysters, both raw and cooked, were so fresh I'm still drooling just thinking about them. The sake-steamed clams? Pure delight. And the yellowtail ceviche with coconut and shrimp chips had such a bright, tropical flavor it practically transported me to a beach somewhere. As for rolls, we tried the hamachi and the quarantine, but honestly, they were the least memorable of the nigh everything else outshined them. Of course, no sushi night is complete without sake. The happy hour Kikusui sake by the glass was crisp, smooth, and just right. My only tiny gripe? We ordered extra fresh wasabi and only found out later it cost $15. Would've been nice to get a heads-up on that. Other than that little surprise, the night was fantastic. Great service, amazing flavors, and the kind of happy hour that makes you want to come back again and again.

Yelp
We came here to celebrate our 22nd anniversary, hoping for a nice experience. We were not disappointed. Sunday night is reserved for kaiseki style omakase, and all 12 diners were seated around the sushi bar. The restaurant was closed to regular patrons so the chef and staff can concentrate on us. The set menu consisted of cooked and raw fish, each course beautifully presented. But it wasn't just visually appealing, it was tasty. While the pictures I took shows the artful presentation, it does not capture how delicious each offering was. We genuinely loved each dish, right down to the perfect palate cleansing dessert ending. The chef carefully explained each course as it was presented, blending knowledge and humor. The two ladies serving us were super attentive and absolutely professional. Overall, it was the best omakase experience we've ever enjoyed, and a wonderful way to celebrate our anniversary.

Yelp
Quite disappointed with the food here at Ju-ichi. This was recommended by a friend, but it honestly wasn't anything special. We paid 73$ (not included tip) for 2 rolls and an appetizer + miso soup. Being on the expensive side I expected the fish to stand out more but it didn't seem like the quality was up to par for the price point. I also feel like the toppings of the rolls either overpowered the sushi or did not pair well.

Yelp
SO. FRESH. SO GOOD. We came here on a whim for happy hour and it totally hit the spot. I had a mini toro rice bowl that was buttery, fresh, and honestly could've been twice the size and I still would've scraped the bowl clean. My husband had the snow crab version and a chirashi bowl. Why choose just one when it's happy hour, right? He also had a Harland lager, and I got a glass of sake that was so generously poured it felt like a whole small bottle. Not complaining. We ordered a side of rice and miso soup for our little Filipina queen, who needs rice in her soups (tradition and taste, baby!). The miso soup was rich, savory, and full of umami. We all ended up putting the rice into the soup, and even my husband, who's normally anti rice-in-soup, couldn't stop raving about it. That's how good it was. Dessert? Say less. The pot du crème was a mousse-lovers dream. Smooth, velvety, and topped with two big ol' pieces of candied bacon that took it from "yum" to "WHERE HAS THIS BEEN ALL MY LIFE." This place is an easy yes. Fresh fish, killer happy hour, and food that makes you rethink all your past miso soup experiences. Already planning our next visit.

Yelp
I mean, Oishi!! Yum! Came here on a weds night because didn't want to take the chance of a possibly busy Friday night. The atmosphere was really chill. I don't remember if there was music or not but we were able to hear each other talk without having to yell. It's a small place so definitely make reservations. Our waiter was Thy and he was awesome! I've been here once before and sat at the bar then, but my sister have not and she only eat cooked food so she had alot of questions and he was great at answering and explaining to her about the menu. First thing we got was the broiled oysters and it was really tasty, we had to order another plate. The snow crab mini bowl, was not that mini and it had alot of crab in it! see pictures! Very filling and love that you get so much real crab for the price! I had most of the raw food and it was definitely fresh and delicious. My toro mini bowl was filled with alot of toro as well. My favorite was the toro uni hand roll, there was so much truffle shavings on there, SOOOOO good! And the toro and hamachi sashimi omg melt in your mouth delicious! I also forgot the Hamachi crudo is also so good! We were definitely happy diners. If you haven't been here, it's a must try!

Yelp
Bomb! Unexpected excellent! Fresh, delicious, beautifully plated. Super happy. Will be back

Yelp
It was my first time to Ju-ichi, and it was incredible. The service was exceptional, and everyone was so friendly. Food came out quickly. The broiled oysters were delicious. So much flavor. The mini rice bowls were a perfect paring with our sushi, great serving size. We had the Widget and Influencer rolls, both were recommendations of our server, and they definitely held up to the hype! We were so happy with our food and experience. We definitely will be back.

Yelp
Went here on a Sunday night when they have their prefix menu. Wow. It was amazing, but also a lot of food! You will not walk away hungry, I promise. We had an 11-course tasting menu featuring a full range of Tapas, pasta, sliders, Nigiri, Tartare, Chazuki, and more. It was all amazing. You can get it with matching Sake or a good selection of wine. The service was excellent yet anonymous. It is a gem, and if you like Sushi, you have to go.

Yelp
Came here about 5:30pm on Thursday for dinner. On Thursdays, happy hour is all night long so there is $2 off draft beer and wine, along with some deals on nigiri and their mini bowls. We ordered the nigiri mix for $55, a couple sushi rolls, and the hamachi and scallion hand rolls. The nigiri was the standout - each piece was delicious and the fish was tender and flavorful. Next up, the hamachi hand roll was crunchy and delicious. The sushi rolls were standard, but good! I would like to come back for more nigiri, or to try some of their specialty rolls. It was fun to sit up at the counter and watch everything get made. The guys were friendly and chatted with us a but as they had time - they are busy making sushi! It was a great place for a date and I'll certainly come back.

Yelp
I'm in search of a new go to sushi place, decided to give Ju-ichi a go. They have HH which is always nice! We got there right when they opened and by the time we left all the seats were taken at counter/bar. Seems like people prefer the counter. We ordered the: Ume Garlic butter Edamame Baby Bok choy Yaki Onigiri- a giant rice ball with shredded salmon. Would def skip next time. The rolls were good we had the, Rainbow roll, Spicy tuna roll but the Rona (eel roll) was definitely the best! Great service and friendly staff!

Yelp
Day was amazing she helped us with our food orders. She brought our next plates at the perfect time. She gets five stars and we're coming back. It's our first time here the food was amazing. The service was even better by Day. The ambience is great. The music is really good in the background. We just really like this place. It's our first time here and we will be back.

Yelp
Made reservations for 4 on a Sat. night about a week prior, and glad I did. This small sushi restaurant was packed by the time we were ready to order. It was our first time here but wont be the last. The sushi we ordered was fresh, a good portion, and oh so delicious! From the classic rainbow roll to their specialty rolls, Widget & Selfie, it was sushi heaven for us. Although we didn't order sake this time, they had quite an impressive sake menu, even including same flights (next time a must try!) one last note about the food: their menu changes regularly. We had their Shirako Tempura specialty from the special kitchen menu. It was definitely our favorite dish. Hope they will still have it next time we're here. The service was outstanding too. They were fast, efficient, and knowledgeable with the specialties & history of the restaurant. Example: one of us dropped a chopstick, and our server noticed us pick it up. She brought a set of new ones without us asking. Our water was always filled without us ever asking for more. Overall, thrilled we came here for our Saturday Sushi fix! Will be back!

Yelp
I came to SD with my fiancé since he had a work trip. We were craving sushi and saw that Ju-ichi had a happy hour menu so we decided to try it. I'm not sure if their happy hour menu was worth it...unfortunately the portions came out so much smaller than I had expected. The food was good but I felt like we got scammed by the happy hour menu. When we asked the server about portions, he said it was a good portion. It was a little sad looking when it all came out. The bowls especially the uni pasta was the size of my palm! It was still $20~ Needless to say, I don't think we'll go back.

Yelp
Had a wonderful meal at Ju-chi. The quality of the fish is super fresh and the whole presentation of the meal is beautiful. I had the protein roll. It was absolutely delicious. The mushroom salad was wonderful as well and the nigiri was super fresh. I highly recommend this place. it's a 10 out of 10.
google avatar

Yelp
Absolute grade A sushi experience! The fish was so fresh and beautifully prepared. The service was incredibly friendly and helpful from the whole staff not just the sushi chefs at the bar. The vibes were fun and adventurous which is exactly what you want in a sushi experience. Could not recommend this place more!!!

Yelp
Monday night dinner with no plan. Got seats for 4 readily available. Small but cozy place that serves omikase by reservation on Sunday. Walking on you can smell the Japanese sushi bar smell filling the air. Quite noisy if there are energetic guests next table. There are small special menu for nigiri and sashimi which I recommend trying. Maddie is our host and server, very warm, quick and efficient. Nice to chat with. She brought out water and water pitcher. Food came out slowly to keep your stomach crying for more while your eyes are gazing at the beautifully decorated food arrangements and your chopsticks are cleaning the plates. We ordered Boogie Boo ( recommended),Hangry rolls and Widgets roll. And that is also the order of recommendation Also the Ju-ichi Protein rolls are very refreshing using cucumber instead of rice. Using the dropper to add soy sauce to the piece is something I never saw. Quite effective since the cucumber cut piece is hard to handle. Recommended.

Yelp
Sat at the bar on a Friday night based off of google maps reviews. Me and my guy both ordered the nigiri mix which was 10 nigiri pieces for $55, and split one sake flight for $19. We had both been here before with a bigger group of people and had remembered this as a pretty decent place across food items and sushi. Needless to say we were both extremely disappointed by our nigiri only experience. The rice was terrible, the worst we have had in our recent recollection - we both enjoy sushi and do budget sushi (SoCal sushi in Normal Heights) and bougie sushi (Soichi, Tadokoro, Ichifuji) and this was by far the worst rice we have ever had. It was undercooked and visually didn't look good in the silver bowl that they keep the rice in. We both felt like a seasoned chef should be able to tell when nigiri-ing their nigiri. Save your coin and don't come here

Yelp
Came here for happy hour on a Thursday evening and we were satisfied and full! The interior is spacious with some larger tables and some more intimate ones perfect for date night. For a party of 2, we ordered a chirashi bowl, a salmon yuzu bowl, the croquettes, and an asparagus tempura dish and we were very full. Fish was fresh, and the food was flavorful! The service was fast and attentive. Would definitely come back again!

Yelp
Do you love sushi? Then you'll love Ju-ichi. It's authentic, fresh and yummy! It adds up quick because you just want to keep eating. Service is great and they are very friendly. It's fun to sit at the bar and watch your sushi made to order. The place is simple - but the food is fantastic. It's located in a small strip mall off of the busy Convoy. There is free parking. I would recommend making a reservation and going during Happy Hour times.
google avatar

Phil B.

Yelp
Excellent sushi rolls in this small out of the strip shopping center. Friendly service and very reasonable prices. Tempura was outstanding. Most importantly they take reservations.
google avatar

Katherine K.

Yelp
My date and I just randomly decided to stop by here to split a few rolls. We got the Widget and the Influencer at the sushi chef's recommendation. I thought the influencer itself was okay. I have never had a sushi roll with apples before and I was pleasantly surprised by it. The widget had good flavor to it, but it wasn't really spicy. Since the widget wasn't spicy, we decided to get a custom sushi roll done by the chef that was extra spicy. I had a huge problem with this roll as 1. there was no spice to it at all making it a huge disappointment and 2. he added cream cheese when I specifically told him that was the one and only ingredient I did not want in there. He said he added it because you can't even taste it, but I could tell there was cream cheese in the roll by the texture. It completely grossed me out and my date had to eat the entire rest of the roll by himself. I honestly don't understand why the chef had to use the one ingredient I asked him not to use. It feels very rude to me and felt like he was telling me I'm wrong and he knows what I like better than I do. Giving this place 2.5 stars and rounding to 3. They lost a star due to the custom roll.
google avatar

Jennifer N.

Yelp
Our party of 4 was seated right away on a thursday night. Pro tip, their last call is like an hour before closing. Everything was fresh and tasty. I recommend getting their specialty rolls.
google avatar

Rachel L.

Yelp
Came in last week and made a reservation an hour before. Love this place. Always one host that's also a server but they get your food out at a reasonable pace. It's a hip vibe and was just as good the second visit here as the first. The creamy uni pasta was fantastic and the portions look small but are pretty filling.
google avatar

Kathryn W.

Yelp
This restaurant is one of my favorites in San Diego. They have so many items to choose from and fresh every single time. I love coming here for their nigiri and sashimis and love that they give you fresh wasabi with the oysters. Been here so many times and satisfied every single visit.
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely incredible! We have dined in with Chef Nghi and have ordered their Epic board for take out and every time it has been nothing short of incredible. We've tried just about all the high-end sushi spots in San Diego and we're always left impressed by chef Nghi! Yelp
It is right off of Convoy so I hadn't noticed it. The staff were very friendly and the food was great!!
google avatar

Yelp
For the fish quality and convenience of being central in San Diego, I would highly recommend this spot. We had came here on a Wednesday night and got bar seating for 4 which ended up being the last ones that were not on reservations that night. Service was amazing. All the sushi chefs were incredible and passionate about sushi and foods. I can feel and taste their love in the food we ate. Ambiance was great as it was more of a small date night type of spot. I would recommend getting the karage as an appetizer as it was probably one of the best I've tasted
google avatar

Mei T.

Yelp
It was one of those evenings where my boyfriend and I just wanted to try food from different restaurants so we ordered a few light dishes to share: Salmon & salmon belly sashimi, rolls, and raw oysters. The fish were really fresh and the cuts were decent in size. We enjoyed the roll as well. Our favorite were the raw oysters that came with fish roe, caviar, dashi, soju, and chives. The restaurant was relatively small but was very cozy. We sat in a quiet corner at the bar. Service was quick and friendly.
google avatar

Han L.

Yelp
I gotta try it again. So far I had a great experience and I want to gatekeep their happy hour. I haven't wanted to gatekeep for a while. It's not the best sushi, but it is much better sushi still at the cheaper price point.
google avatar

Simon S.

Yelp
It was my first time at Ju-ichi and my party went during happy hour (can't say no to 3 dollar beers). Reservations were made easily online and the parking lot was small but plenty of street parking. It's a small little restaurant and there was only one server at the time. There was a miscommunication with our order but it was understandable. I ordered an uni bowl, salmon skin hand roll and shared a sashimi platter. They offered two different types of uni; Santa Barbara and Japan uni and they were both pretty sweet! The sashimi platter was also fresh and they even had Wakamomo peaches as decoration. We asked for a few more of the baby peaches and also had a special drink made from the juices. We also ordered dessert, pot du creme, which was like a chocolate pudding with two candied bacon pieces. Unfortunately, it was too sweet for my Asian taste buds. Food was fresh and reasonably priced. I will probably come back again to try the foie gras if they put it back on the menu.

Yelp
Came here for a birthday dinner on a Tuesday evening and I absolutely loveeee this place! The service, quality of food, and the vibes of this place are awesome! It's a small sushi restaurant tucked behind convoy and good for smaller groups/intimate dinners. There is a small parking lot but if it fills up there is nearby street parking. Even though they're known for sushi, their non-sushi items are just as delicious. We got the warm mushroom salad (this is a MUST!), bone marrow, salmon onigiri, the influencer roll and spicy selfie roll. The fish here is very fresh--which unfortunately is an issue at most sushi spots in SD. Great sushi needs fresh fish and Ju Ichi has that. My only real complaint is that the salmon onigiri is OKAY, i would not get it again. I just felt like it didn't have a good rice to salmon ratio. Other than that, this place is a 12/10!
google avatar

Emily N.

Yelp
I'm so glad I gave Ju-ichi a try! Service was knowledgeable and quick and the food was delicious. We ordered the nigiri mix-10 pieces of chef selected nigiri, all fish was fresh and loved all the different toppings on it. I really enjoyed the small dishes as well! We got sake steamed clams, an octopus special, and a salmon mini rice bowl. The octopus was so soft and tender, not at all chewy or hard to eat! The star in my opinion however is the warm mushroom salad. We ate them like lettuce wraps where you put all the mushroom sauce in lettuce cups and we loved it so much we got two! The textures and flavors on this dish were really special
google avatar

Alice Y.

Yelp
Came on a Tuesday night around 6:30 for dinner for two and got seated immediately! The interior is fairly intimate with some table seating as well as bar seating. Two of us ordered 2 yuzu salmon mini rice bowls and shared a hangry roll which were both delicious and a good amount to feel content but not too full. Our server was so kind and gave us complimentary tuna nigiri with caviar at the end of our meal! The tuna was so fresh and mouthwatering. I would 100% come back here and want to try their happy hour next time!
google avatar

Jillian I.

Yelp
The sashimi and sushi are SO FRESH! The Golden Eye Snapper (light and oily, but light on the pallet) and Young Barracuda (smoky and oily with a mild lemon aftertaste) sashimi are MOUTH WATERING. Had sea urchin for the first time in over a decade and actually liked it! Creamy and not disgusting like I remember from all those years ago. Would definitely try it again. I also got the mini chirashi bowl for happy hour and was pleasantly surprised by how flavorful and filling it was. If you like spice, request fresh horseradish (the Kizami). It's pickled and chopped. Delish. My friend took all the pics, so I've got nothing to show you. Server was helpful and kind. She talked us through all our questions and made great recommendations. Restaurant is quiet and even though it's on the pricier side, we don't feel underdressed in sweaters and linen pants. Several of couples and families with kids were all enjoying the space.
google avatar

Maayan Y.

Yelp
We came here with some friends and loved, loved the experience and the food! Could be a casual atmosphere with friends or a fun date night. One thing to note is that it is on the pricier side even for sushi -- that being said we would certainly come back again! The service was fabulous and everyone was very kind and attentive. The fish was fresh and I enjoyed that they had non seafood options. It was a great presentation of food as well. Overall 5 stars!

Carol M.

Yelp
My sister and I wanted to treat our mom out to dinner so we found Ju-Ichi on yelp and decided to try it based on the reviews. I would like to start with the service. The servers were exceptionally friendly and were so attentive. They were very welcoming and we had some nice conversations with them. Second was the food. We came in not knowing that Thursdays were happy hour from 6-close so the prices pleasantly surprised us. We got so much food for a reasonable price and it all tasted amazing. The sashimi tasted so clean and fresh, very refreshing with the sake flight! We also ordered both the raw and broiled oysters which were delicious, and so many more menu items from sushi rolls to the wagyu carpaccio. We were stuffed by the end of dinner and very satisfied with everything. Would definitely recommend!

Yelp
Ju-ichi is a Japanese restaurant that mainly specializes in sushi. The restaurant lies within a mini strip mall in the Convoy area. Parking can be hard to find here specifically; and though there is street parking available, depending on the day/night, it can be a little tedious to find a spot (but that's Convoy for you). I've been here two times now and both times have had an excellent experience. This past time, my friends and I randomly decided to come here spontaneously due to a craving for sushi, and happened upon their happy hour. Food-wise: I can be a sushi snob at times, but Ju-ichi has a great selection of sushi options. They source a good deal of their ingredients from Japan and it shows in the quality of the food. This time, I tried the sashimi omakase (chef's choice), which is relatively pricey but I'd say it was worth it due to the amount of cuts you receive and their quality. It came with side dish of wasabi and peaches. They have a variety of other options such as a la carte sushi, nigiri, sashimi, special rolls, hand rolls, rice bowls, and appetizers. Drink-wise: as noted earlier, we came in for happy hour and boy the happy hour deal for beer was great at $5 drafts. We had the Harland Japanese Lagers and they were fantastic. Service-wise: the employees here were excellent. Our group came in without a reservation, and the servers were super polite about it and moved things around so we could be seated immediately. They were also very attentive and made sure to check in periodically to see if we were good and needed anything, but not at a rate that would make it disruptive or bothersome. We sat at the sushi bar, so we were able to converse with the sushi chef. He was very knowledgeable of the sushi and where each of the ingredients were sourced. He even let us try some of the fresh wasabi. Ambiance-wise: Ju-ichi is a fairly small restaurant, but with the decor and seating, it makes it a good balance of intimate but still enough space to be relaxed The restaurant is kept very clean which is another plus. In summary: Ju-ichi is a great option for those looking for good sushi that price-wise doesn't hit that higher-quality omakase dining level. There are plenty of other options such as rice bowls and special rolls as well for those that aren't into just nigiri or sashimi. I have not had a bad experience here yet and definitely will be back in the future and have as a recommendation for others.

Yelp
Ju-Ichi in my opinion isn't your traditional Japanese sushi restaurant, and that's fine with me. Though the nigiri was delicious I felt the prices were a bit higher than other places I've been to. What stood out to me about this place was the Small Plates and the Speciality Rolls. I highly recommend trying the Bougie Boo Roll which had all types of fish on it and crispy leeks which gave it a nice crunch. As for the small plates the Dirty Croquettes were really good, but the Chicken Kaarage was just average. As for the service it was a solid 10/10. The sushi chefs are very friendly and welcoming. Would I go again? Yes!

Yelp
The BEST sushi I've ever had in California. Yellowtail crudo is a game changer and you can genuinely tell the appreciation the staff and chefs have around providing quality service. Will always recommend Ju-ichi!

Yelp
Me and my boyfriend saw this place had good ratings so we decided to check it out. It's kind of hidden, the parking is small but there is a lot of street parking. This place is pretty small kind of a whole in the wall spot but has a nice elegant ambience to it. The service was exceptional and the food was amazing. We loved the oysters!!! I would come back just for the oysters alone. The boogie boo roll was my second favorite out of what we ate. It has a lot of flavor and it will definitely fill you up. I highly recommend this spot and will be returning.

Yelp
I just came back 5 days later for the regular menu, just as delicious!!!!! We ordered the wagyu tartar, land and sea mini ramen, uni nigiri, sashimi mix. As expected, absolutely delicious!!!! An ordered was messed up but they were very apologetic and even gave us a free dessert for my friend who we brought to celebrate his birthday. Wonderful time as usual and will be coming back and bringing all our out of town friends!

Yelp
Excellent Food, Excellent Service, Great Music & Ambiance! Their happy hour is great! The quality of sushi & umami flavors at this restaurant are 5+ stars. Watching Chef Nghi San & his great crew create the dishes is also very entertaining! I've been wanting to try the Sunday Omakase & will do so very soon! The handrolls, the nigiri, & specialty rolls are all recommended. I've already been back several times.

Yelp
This place is my new spot. If you are looking for a legit place that is the right balance between authentic (Nigiri, handrolls and sashimi) and also has some delicious tasty roll options, this is your place. This was for my birthday and we sat at the bar. Our sushi chef Ron was amazing and crafted everything to perfection. Here's the highlights: - Sake served in the box. - Sashimi sampler was amazing with fresh wasabi, and these mini peaches called Wakamomo that I had never heard before but are perfect palate cleanser between bites. - something refreshing handroll (pictured) made by Ron for me. - pot de creme, with wagyu fat and candied bacon. Whatever you are picturing/imagining as the flavor, make it 4x better. If there was only one thing I would say if the owners are reading this, is the non-chef server was not the friendliest of people. Don't know if it was a bad day or what, but I'm glad we were at the sushi bar because luckily the food was amazing and Ron made us feel more than welcome. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Great service. Good, clean fish. We wanted to try the foi gras and toro bowl but I think those may be dinner menu items.. Just tried the simple, classic pieces. Pretty good.

Yelp
Fish is not fresh & fishy. My mouth has after taste that I can't describe & get rid of. Service is good. Ambiance is ok. I wouldn't order the $55 chef's choice nigiri at all!! It's the biggest mistake I make. After i finish, I'm so afraid that I would get sick. The sushi rice (for the rolls) doesn't not taste right....too soggy!!! I know it's a sushi place, but stick with the cooked food.

Yelp
It's all good. I stopped by for lunch and had the Heirloom Tomato Salad, Bougie Boo, and a Harland Japanese Lager. The salad was supposed to come with yellowtail, but their order of this fish hadn't arrived yet. Upon their recommendation, they substituted chu-toro. I very much appreciate their kindness because chu-toro is much more expensive and more delicious than yellowtail. The salad was amazing. The fish was melt in your mouth and was well balanced with the tomatoes and squash blossom tempura. The pictures of the popular Bougie Boo roll don't do enough justice. The sushi roll was huge and flavorful. The crispy leeks were a real treat. Two thumbs up for using a local San Diego brewery. The beer was smooth, light and refreshing. The place is casual and comfortable. I enjoyed the vibe of this small restaurant. Service was friendly and attentive. The menu is creative and I look forward to returning to eat more items.
