11 Best Sandwiches in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill | Eater Carolinas

"Known for its extensive and beloved coffee program, Jubala’s lunch menu is also something to be celebrated. The turkey avocado sandwich is a grilled-cheesy delight served on local Boulted bread. The tomato jam sandwich is Jubala’s take on a BLT, with mozzarella as an added bonus. Add a fried egg to any sandwich for just $2." - Catherine Currin

A Raleigh staple turned house roaster, Jubala pairs meticulous espresso with scratch biscuits and waffles. Frequently cited by Axios and praised by local food writers, it’s an essential stop for quality and community—now expanding downtown, per the News & Observer.

Google
Cool little coffee shop that serves small bites. Coffee was really good. I didn’t make any additions to it which is not the norm for me. Was surprised by the size of the waffle but it was tasty. It’s not your average waffle it’s thicker and more dense. It was almost too hard though. The biscuit was good. But the apple butter was a little more spicier than I like. Would go back.

Google
It's funny. I pass by this place all the time looking for a new cafe to try but never really noticed it until Google maps recommended it. It doesn't stand out too much. Well I've been here twice now and let me tell you. The weekend is busy and full of people because of how popular they are so I recommend going during the week 💖 My first time was full of people and I couldn't really enjoy it ( it's a small place and not fit for very large groups but it was a weekend so I don't blame Jubala). The people were still very nice but I could tell they were rushed to make my drink and it wasn't the best. My second trip: Soo much better!!! The people were as nice and chilled back ( it was on a week day and not many people were there so I think they were able to take their time) also the layout is very planet friendly. I ordered my go to, an iced Vallina large latte. At first look, it's nice and has a cute logo. 10 out of 10. Now first taste? It wasn't the best but maybe it just needed more ice because the more I sipped the more I enjoyed it and realized it was cold just tasted warm at the top!? It's creamy and you could taste the vanilla though it's not as strong as other drinks. All in and All. It was still good and It was only 6 dollars (this is plus tax) with a tip making 7 dollars. Fairy priced. I recommend it if you want to treat yourself on a hot day which you know is common in NC July. ☕

Google
At risk of sounding melodramatic, this place reminded me that coffee can taste good. I’ve been getting mostly big chain coffee lately out of convenience, and tasting Jubala’s iced coffee and biscuit sandwich, I could really taste the difference that smaller batch and freshly made makes! This time I tried a flavored latte and it was not overly sweet and nicely flavored. I haven’t had trouble with parking, but I imagine it could be a challenge during peak hours.

Google
I had their seasonal coconut brown sugar iced latte and loved it. The location is great, and the baristas are friendly, informative and polite.

Google
The coffee and food here are exceptional, especially in the last couple years. The biscuit sandwiches are good-size and very tasty. The coffee is phenomenal. I had a delicious shot of espresso here that had incredibly fruity notes. I love having this place so close to my work.

Google
Visited four times during two days of my visit to Raleigh. I had cortado, macchiato, and espresso. While cortado was great, I was a little disappointed with espresso and macchiato. Crema for both drinks was not thick enough, with the coffee a little too sour and light. With a great vibe, ample sittings, and good service, I recommend this place.

Google
I used to love Jubala as a place to go when I wanted a nice coffee and snack. It’s a shame that they’ve changed or removed my favorite options though. From its prime, the yogurt and granola has since been replaced with all new ingredients. What used to be the best yogurt around was replaced with something I can’t place as yogurt on its flavor and the granola changed for the worst as well. I also liked to get a 16 oz latte here, but from my visit today, they don’t serve them anymore either. I take from this that jubala values cheaper ingredients and shrinking sizes to gain a buck, but you lost a customer.

Yelp
Iced Vanilla Latte w/ almond milk: delicious Iced mocha: delicious Home made Biscuit w/ apple butter: delicious Would definitely recommend this place, great vibes great coffee great service!

Yelp
Delicious! I stopped by for lunch on Juneteenth and there was free parking in the street since it was a holiday. It's also nice in the summer when school is out and it's a little bit slower. I got the turkey avocado sandwich and it did not disappoint. The sandwich was grilled so the cheese and turkey was hot and melted. The avocado was fresh and it was nice to add the arugula on top of the sandwich. I'd definitely visit again.

Yelp
Jubala never disappoints! The biscuits are amazing, and the drinks are really well crafted. The chai tea lattes are particularly strong and flavorful. I love coming here around breakfast time, as it gets a bit crowded heading into brunch. The staff is really nice, and there's plenty of outdoor seating, which is great when we bring the dogs. The indoors are the first place to become crowded because it's a great WFH spot. Definitely a must-try coffee spot in Raleigh.

Yelp
Fast and friendly service. The ambiance is of a classic hipster cafe. Free WiFi is available if you want to study here. The food is amazing. The bread is fresh homemade sourdough. Avocado toast is amazing and the waffles are unlike any other waffle I've had. The waffles have these crystallized sugar sprinkles within the batter and the peanut butter is homemade as well. I personally haven't tried the biscuits but my friend Jordan always orders one. My mom said it that she had one of the top three lattes of her life from here so the coffee is great. Beans are locally roasted at black and white. The latte art is always adorable. Free water is available as well. Seating inside and outside. I prefer outside being able to look at the bell tower and bikes and dogs walking by. They also have free espresso Friday which is always a can't miss for my friend group.

Yelp
We had two cappuccinos and bacon and eggs sandwiches to go. The sandwiches were biscuits, with a hint of sweetness to it. The cappuccinos had a slight taste of burntness, but not overpowering. It was fairly active during mid-norning. I suspect most of the patrons are from NC State.

Yelp
I went here for a quick bite to eat with my friend. Since this is right off of campus, you can tell it's a spot for students. I got the yogurt parfait. The granola was really good. My friend had the tomato jam sandwich and enjoyed it as well.

Yelp
Love this place. Great coffee, awesome food, and a warm peaceful atmosphere. Kind of pricey, but worth it when you are trying to treat yourself to something nice. I enjoy coming here for business meetings and to read my book or work on my computer. The staff is nice and attentive. The environment is clean and it's not overly noisy. Would recommend!

Yelp
A friend of mine recommended this place so I had to check it out. It is definitely a popular hang out place. They have coffee, tea, morning and regular sandwiches as well. They do have non dairy options if you have dietary restrictions. Their coffee and sandwiches are excellent. Everyone who works here is super friendly and helpful. Considering how busy they are, they do an excellent job with providing your order in a timely manner.
google avatar

Jillian L.

Yelp
My friends told me this place was really good and it was amazing. The biscuits are made in-house and every bite of it was delicious. I also got a latte but it was a little too milky, I feel like it only had one espresso shot and lots of milk.
google avatar

Taylor K.

Yelp
Amazing place to go for an upscale experience while having your morning coffee! My personal favorite is a drop biscuit and an almond latte. The balance of the lattes are consistently delightful, and the staff are always pleasant. Though it is my go to beverage choice, I find it odd that the almond latte comes standard with whole milk instead of its obvious alternative (almond milk). Overall, I always love coming here and definitely recommend it for a nice morning or mid afternoon treat!
google avatar

Yelp
I came with some friends to this place. They're super fast with service and move like machines. The place is busy and there is indoor and outdoor seating. Everyone ate their entire meals so it must've been amazing. I loved the open concept of kitchen to coffee area.
google avatar

Shami P.

Yelp
Stopped by to grab some coffee and snacks in the morning. This location was busy and is on a college campus. Parking was a little difficult to find. Plenty of seating inside and outside and dog friendly if sitting outside. The lady at the counter was helpful and informative and was able to answer all my questions. I got a caramel latte which was delicious and not too sweet and also got a fruit cup which unfortunately only had apples and oranges in it. Was hoping for a little more variety. Overall great place!
google avatar

Gregory B.

Yelp
Solid muffin. The sausage was juicy, and had no fat. The cheese was melty, and the egg was...an egg. Muffin was great, not too dry or crumbly. Good breakfast spot.

Yelp
Some of the greatest tasting coffee has come from this cafè! Every time my wife and I visit Raleigh, one of our first stops is Jubala Coffee. The drinks may be small, but packs a powerful punch that will last throughout the day. The flavor in every brew I've had has been amazing. Every experience here (sorry if this is my first review) is nice partially because of the welcoming staff. Awesome customer service. Quick with the orders and greeting everyone happily. So far, every location has been the same vibe. They're all clean, so I see they have a standard and continued to uphold that standard. Cannot wait to visit Raleigh again so I can stop by Jubala Coffee (at any location) and post an epic review with some nice pictures to follow.

Yelp
This spot is so cute! Nice, crisp & modern! This location is on a street setting with street or paid parking during the weeks days but the weekend you can park in the parking lot. There's also outside seating which is perfect on a nice day. You walk in place your order, once your order is placed you receive number for your table. I ordered the drop biscuit bacon, egg, & cheese (if you don't like sunny side up eggs please let them know) I didn't know and was surprised when I bit into the sandwich but nonetheless it was good. Customer service was great, restaurant nice & clean, bathroom adjoining the Aloft hotel. Will definitely revisit if I'm in the area.

Yelp
These biscuits are incredible - they have a sweet taste to them!!! Really nice, quick place to get a fast breakfast! Not a place to bring your entire family due to the limited seating. Would definitely come back!
google avatar

Yelp
This is my go to place and it really should be for you. The coffee is always CONSISTENT and for someone who is somewhat of a coffee snob, this is so important. From the presentation to the taste, it is always stellar. The staff is nothing but generous and warm and the vibe of the place is perfect for anyone who likes coffee. I sometimes come to work in my admin days or with friends, it's just perfection. The food is another plus.. again always stellar and worth the price. If you are looking for a great coffee shop, stop looking.. this is it!

Luna D.

Yelp
One of the worst coffee places I have ever been to, coffee doesn't even taste like coffee. How can you make coffee wrong? So overpriced for mid coffee. I haven't tried the food here but if it is bland as the coffee than please take your business somewhere else!
google avatar

Tiffany T.

Yelp
This place really set the tone for cafe vibes. I am not much of a coffee drinker myself so I can't say for all, but the service here was great (and so were the customers). Not to mention very well priced!!! The ambience was great. There were plenty of seats outside and inside. The baristas were positioned both on the side and in a sort of island in the middle. You can see your food being prepared in real-time as well. Personally I ordered the almond latte and it was super flavorful. The portion sizes are amazing as well. I'm used to quickly finishing mugs as they are wide but typically shallow, but the ones here are deeeeeep. I think I Lowkey got full off of the latte. I was visiting from out of state but I would definitely come back if visiting Raleigh again!

Yelp
Was in town for a conference & made a stop for breakfast and some caffeine. SO GOOD! The food had great flavor & the vanilla latte was also delicious. Wish we had one in Minne.

Yelp
Walking distance from our DoubleTree hotel on Hillsborough. Super cute corner location with plenty of parking spots. What we ordered: - Espresso Tonic - Black Cherry Affogato - Banana Nutella Waffle - Sparkling Yuzu-ade Our black affogato came with NO ESPRESSO. We thought that maybe their espresso was already mixed into the ice cream for some reason but after tasting it we quickly figured out it wasn't. We started eating the ice cream on our waffle because we were so confused and thought maybe it was for the waffle. We were almost finished with our whole meal before someone came by saying they forgot to give it to us. By that point most of the black cherry ice cream was gone so our ratio was completely off. Last photo reflects this. They didn't apologize or offer more ice cream to offset their mistake, which is disappointing. The waffle was good, it was very crunchy. If you like a more crunchy waffle definitely try. Everything else was solid besides for the mixup and customer service.

Yelp
Had my first biscuit in NC here today and I was impressed with their freshly made biscuits. The outside was crunchy and the inside was nice and soft and warm . I had a egg and ham biscuit with no cheese. It didn't need anything else because the flavor was on point !

Doug O.

Yelp
Fantastic food and coffee!! Love the blueberry waffles!!! Visited Jubala several times over a four day visit to Raleigh and NC State. Everything on the menu is excellent!
google avatar

Azaria G.

Yelp
Ordered a regular vanilla latte...my go to whenever I'm trying a new place. My latte was probably one of the best ones I've had in a while. This coffee shop is super nice, well designed and felt very welcoming. However, it was super busy and crowded while I was there and I didn't see much open space to sit down. I opted to take my latte to go, but it's definitely a place I plan to revisit. Maybe when there's less traffic.
google avatar

Tm M.

Yelp
Went here while visiting my son at NC State. The biscuit sandwiches are the bomb! Coffee is excellent! Might have to wait for a seat but it is worth it!
google avatar

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
Really loved my recent experience at Jubala! Staff were friendly and helpful. You can walk inside with your dog to order, but have to sit outside with them. Luckily there is great outdoor seating that is covered. The chocolate chip cookie is a must-try!
google avatar

Yelp
Okay so I have to write another review about my favorite place in Raleigh. And I promise I'm not just "basic white girling." I just think everything about this place is shwae as all get out. I spend the most time at the Lafayette village one, and I think it's the best out of all the locations. But I must give the north hills one a shout-out because it has not disappointed either. Recently, I've been loving the cinnamon glaze waffle, so I'm gonna rave about it. Like seriously at this point I'm trying to get their waffle recipe because they are just that delicious. I could go on and on about all of their food and their coffee and their tea...but what I really wanted to emphasize is the pleasant experiences I've had with the baristas and other employees. They are very patient and don't usually make you feel rushed when you are ordering. They take care to make your drink just right. And they aren't dismissive of your requests. To be completely honest, I wish I didn't like it as much because it is far too pricey, but I'm hooked
google avatar

Julie S.

Yelp
I was staying at the Aloft hotel for a training and stopped in for a Chai and got the banana Nutella waffle ...it was amazing!! Perfect size and delicious!! Served at the perfect temperature! The chai wasn't too bad either!
google avatar

Hania A.

Yelp
Love It! Nice coffee shop located in North Hills. Their coffee is so good. Tried their vanilla latte (extra shot of course) and it hit the spot on a early Sunday morning. The vibe is chill, their service excellent, and they have small bites to choose from for a quick breakfast. Definitely a good place for a quick stop before heading on the road.
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
For a coffee shop, they have fantastic food that tastes fresh and clean. The service is excellent. The only downfall is that it can get hectic during lunch time so expect a line if you come in around then, but overall the service is always friendly and happy. I highly recommend the chocolate chip banana bread and the turkey avocado sandwich; they are amazing!

Maria D.

Yelp
Legit coffee shop! If you like good coffee, stop by...great vibe, friendly staff and delish breakfast! We had the waffle with cinnamon glaze - it had the taste of a cinnamon bun - crunchy on the outside and warm, chewy on the inside- yum, yum! Biscuits were great too!
google avatar

Jet S.

Yelp
As hard as I try, I cannot get behind jubala. I've heard many people say this is the best coffee in town but I disagree. I have ordered 3 different drinks and wasn't impressed with any of them- how can you go wrong with a vanilla latte? Inside is hot and humid and uncomfortable to sit in. On top of that, there's no hospitality from the workers. I don't have plans to go back anytime soon
google avatar

Michaela D.

Yelp
I've been a fan of the other Jubala location for years, but had never been to this one. I make a point to visit every time I'm in town. I've been to 100+ coffee shops and Jubala is always one of the first to come to mind when I think of my all time favorites. Their coffee is simply top tier. I usually go for espresso, typically in the form of whatever their seasonal latte is at the time of my visit. This time however, I ordered the blackberry cold brew mule special. A huge smile immediately appeared on my face after the first sip. I could drink that every day, forever and be content. I always go for a bacon and pimento cheese biscuit, which I think about for days after I indulge. I wish I was kidding. I also snag a liege waffle because I can't resist those sugar pearls. Combine these three items to give me my dream breakfast. I can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Amanda C.

Yelp
The coffee never disappoints here & it's a great atmosphere for working or chatting with friends. The fall drinks I've had recently blow any other coffee shop out of the water
google avatar

Mollie H.

Yelp
This is a Raleigh staple! The vibes are 10/10 if you are looking for a bunch or good place to study. The coffee is never anything but amazing as well as the food. My favorite is the turkey avocado sandwich. The service is immaculate with workers knowing the ins and outs of the menu with nothing but great recommendations!
google avatar

Chelsey D.

Yelp
We came here on Sunday morning to kill time before our brunch plans and the indoor and patio were both packed! Luckily it is still a spacious cafe that utilizes its seating wisely, and people were coming and going so it was easy to find a spot after ordering. We had the pour over coffee, French press coffee, blueberry waffle, and tuna melt sandwich with side salad! We were impressed with everything, including the food! Although the tuna itself was a little dry, the egg salad (or egg relish?) complemented it so well that I wanted an extra spoonful of it! Jubala serves quality coffees and food and I am totally in love with this place!
google avatar

Shannon D.

Yelp
I can see why this place is so popular since it's right by the college. Hard to get an outside spot. So the crinkle cookie reminded me of a mix of a biscuit and a cookie. I had the biscuit sandwich with the egg and bacon and the texture reminded me of each other. The flavoring in the lemon cookie was great. I had the special which was an orange jasmine latte, which was unique and tasty. I wish their outdoor space had more tables to sit at since it seems like if you're wanting to sit outside and enjoy this nice day, you're going to need to cross your fingers and hope for the best. If not then you can always take it to go and go to a nearby park or something.
google avatar

Yelp
This Jubala location is on NC State Campus so nearby parking options are paid and limited, fair warning. The cafe and it's surrounding areas are beautiful, especially in the Fall. The environment and aesthetic here, both indoors and out, make this one of my top recommended coffee shops in the state. Jubala is not only known for their strong, flavored coffee drinks, made with a local beans from Counter Culture, but also their housemade biscuits and waffles. My last visit here was in the Fall so naturally I had to try the pumpkin oat latte in combination with a pumpkin butter biscuit. It was the combo of champions and I think about it a little more frequently then is probably healthy. The biscuit was a little tough around the edges but had great flavor and held it's warmth until the very last bite. The pumpkin butter really made it, though it was more of an apple spice butter, to me - no complaints there! Students and remote workers, come with laptops charged and patience for WiFi fluctuation. In the course of 90 minutes I had to re sign into the WiFi at least 3 times which made it hard to get a good work flow going. Being on campus, there are also tons of students here at any given time so finding a seat may be difficult. Other than that I actually enjoyed working here and people watching as I savored my biscuit latte combo, and hope to visit again and try new breakfast combos soon!

Yelp
Biscuits were very good. I had the sausage egg and cheese and we also had a plain biscuit. Coffees were good but VERY sweet if you ordered vanilla. We did ask for a remake on one drink to use way less syrup. The remade drink was great. They said they normally use 3/4 oz of syrup. We asked for 1/4 on the remake.

Aquilah C.

Yelp
I absolutely loved this place, it had such a cool vibe to it. My caramel latte was absolutely delicious as well as my blueberry waffle. I will indeed be back soon.

Yasemin N.

Yelp
The food is very nice and fresh. I love the coffee, especially the Miele because I know it is all natural. The people working there are always so friendly and welcoming. However it gets really crowded and it is hard to find a spot to sit during its busy hours.
google avatar

Joanna E.

Yelp
Unfortunately my latte and my husbands hot tea were both luke warm. They weren't so nice either. Cost too much for this type of experience.

Tori B.

Yelp
Jubala coffee is delicious! Great scenery and delicious biscuits. Their bacon is very crispy and the granola yogurt looked incredible. I will be back!

Yelp
THIS IS THE BEST LOCATION OF THE TWO JUB'S. HANDS FREAKIN' DOWN. There is always a choice of the most inventive and seasonal slices of POUND CAKE TO DIE FOR. OK, YES I AM SHOUTING. CAUSE THE POUND CAKE IS SOUTHERN EXCELLENCE. You have the choice of adventure with a slice of Earl Grey or Apple something or another (seasonal), or a nice traditional slice of pound cake with vanilla essence that would make Memaw jealous. Oh and the biscuits. I love them with a bit of brown crunch on top. Not undercooked. They are perfect. Although I am not particularly a fan of the hint of sweetness, I am in the minority and the sweetness kicks off a nice balance if you pair it with their hearty bacon....which is totally worth the sin. Go for it. They also don't mind cooking my egg to order. I am NOT a runny egg aficionado and have never ever had to return an item to the kitchen due to a mistake. Score! The coffee here is always a solid. I don't think I've had the pour over at this location. I've been in the latte zone. I have enjoyed watching the baristas from the bar on the back end of the store, where the bar is parallel to the store front. There is sometimes not enough seating in the winter as the best and brightest Wolfies bang their brains against their laptops in the pursuit of wisdom. Most times the staff brings your food and clears the plates. Sometimes you have to clean the tables yourself. (How do grown people not clean off their own damn crumbs?). Overall the community and etiquette here is the way a coffee shop should be.

Rach O.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped by on our way out of town after hearing so many good things about this place. My vanilla latte was SO good and he really enjoyed his campfire latte (the seasonal latte when we were there). I ordered a liege waffles with high hopes. I am not used to being able to see the sugar pearls in the waffle and these were unsettling looking. However, the waffle was delicious and I was not disappointed. My husband ordered one of their homemade biscuits with jam. They forgot to put the jam on his biscuit though which was a little sad. Despite that disappointing detail, the biscuit by itself was one of the best i've had. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Jubala has become a favorite coffee shop for most Raleigh locals for a reason. They were among the first premium coffee shops to open and since the beginning have maintained a beautiful atmosphere, fantastic coffee, good food, and an environment that can foster good conversations or a strong focus on work. Their staff are experts in their craft and if you happen to strike up a conversation with one of them, they are bound to give you a great story. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
Hands down--BEST b'fast sandwich in NC. Over easy egg, fresh avocado, or thick bacon, and sharp cheddar. Bam! Run don't walk.
google avatar

Janet R.

Yelp
Jubala is and has been one of my favorite local cafes since I've moved here. I have only been to the Hillsborough location, as I live close by, and it can get pretty busy during the school year but I usually never have problems so I don't make the trip to their other location. I have always been able to find parking on either the side of the building or in the lot directly behind it. An iced latte with an additional shot is my go-to, sometimes with caramel sauce or mocha sauce. But don't forget to check out their seasonal options too because those are always good. Most recently I've found that their food is also delicious! The turkey avocado sandwich is killer. I like to jazz it up by ordering it on sourdough and adding arugula (which does cost a little bit extra) BUT, here's a great life hack for you. As your side, order half chips and half salad- but put the greens on the sandwich! Boom, no extra charge and you still get plenty of chips. Their lemon poppyseed loaf is also crazy good and I order it whenever I see they have it. There's nothing like sitting by the big windows, enjoying a midday espresso & snack with a friend and this is one of my favorite places to do that. 10/10! P.S. Since CV19, I am unsure if they are allowing people back into the cafe but I have ordered curbside pick up through their online ordering system (which was a super pleasant experience) and the staff were wearing masks when I stopped by for my order! We love to see it

Yelp
This is one of those coffee shops I wish had been around when I went to State. I went here today for the first time with a couple girlfriends for breakfast on a (hot) Saturday morning. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, but only outdoor, though shaded, available for the time being. Yes, it's dog-friendly :) I ordered the seasonal ginger hibiscus latte with skim instead of oat milk. It really was SO tasty - not too sweet, just the right amount of milk - I would drink it every day if I could. To eat, I ordered the bacon, egg and cheese biscuit. The biscuit has just a hint of sweet (maybe honey?) which pairs perfectly with the salt/fat of the many slabs of bacon and cheddar cheese. The egg comes fried, but I assume they'll scramble it for you if you prefer. I didn't intend to eat every crumb, but I did and I regret nothing. Absolute perfect start to a Saturday, and I'm so glad I finally tried it!

Yelp
My new favorite coffee spot. It reminds me of blue bottle coffee in NYC! Staff is excellent. Coffee is to die for. The biscuits are unbelievably! Do not leave without having one!!!!
