Jubilee Marketplace Grocery Store Is Listening to Customers and Lowering Prices | Eater NY

"A local New York grocery-store chain most known for its Greenpoint location has taken a bold step by listening to customers. Owner Young Kim's shop already had a loyal following that gained momentum over a year ago due to its wildly inexpensive (and actually good) $2.75 burger; later, Kim added equally affordable deals on rotisserie chicken and a bibimbap buffet, particularly in its FiDi outpost. But some complained on channels like Reddit that, while the prepared-foods deals couldn’t be beat, the groceries — no matter how vast the selection (including New York–based brands otherwise hard to find) — were too high-priced. This week Kim posted to Instagram: "I’m sorry for the shitty high prices and you were right. I thought I was putting the right mark up but if the majority of the community is saying it’s too expensive, then it’s too expensive, end of story." The timing is spot-on as consumers brace for another round of price hikes — in part because of President Trump’s whiplash tariffs — and so far Young has lowered some prices around his shop, though he still has about "20,000 items" more. The move drew attention from the New York Times; Kim told the publication, "Jubilee’s prices tallied to $30 more expensive than a nearby chain store," and added, "That’s a number that you can’t really ignore." On whether he can stay in business as he cuts prices to match bigger stores, videographer Rob Martinez — who also sat down with Kim — told Pete Wells, "I assume he does." - Melissa McCart

The Best Burgers in New York City

"One of the most buzzed-about burgers of the season is sold from the ground-floor cafeteria of a Greenpoint grocery store. Jubilee Market sells a small, satisfying burger for less than it costs to ride the subway — $2.15 for one, or $2.55 with cheese. The budget burgers are influenced by New Jersey’s legendary restaurant, White Mana. Like White Mana, they have shaved onions and a compact bun. Unlike White Mana, they’re made with local beef butchered in the building and a hunk of slow-cooked garlic in the middle of the patty." - Robert Sietsema, Luke Fortney

This Spectacular Burger Costs Less Than a Subway Swipe - Eater NY

"The burger, sold at Jubilee Market, a grocery store, is four bites big. It's made with slow-cooked garlic, a Martin's potato bun, and local beef butchered downstairs. The market's owner, Young Kim, grew up eating burgers at White Mana and wanted to recreate the experience in Brooklyn. All of the ingredients for the burger come from the attached supermarket, which is one reason the price is lower. Kim is doing something unheard of in the restaurant industry and selling the burgers 'at cost,' the price of ingredients, plus labor, before a dish is marked up for sale." - Luke Fortney

Jubilee market is the stuff of legends. $4.99 for a whole rotisserie chicken for a small grocery store? How could you not respect that?! There is no way they are making money on this… I went in expecting this bird to be mid just because of the price point, but this thing was BANGIN. Breast was pretty tender, skin was fantastic, and this thing was full of flavor. I couldn’t believe my tastebuds. It turns out they are selling Pat LaFrieda birds, who is a famous supplier of high quality meats to top restaurants and food establishments… AND IT SHOWS! I ended up giving it an 8.4/10 on my chicken ranking, which ranks it #6 out of 25 grocery store chickens I have currently tried. This place has me looking at apartments in Greenpoint. You’d need a forklift to keep me out of here. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__

The cheapest burgers you're ever going to find in this city, and very tasty! Bring cash, they sell at very low margins to pass savings to customers! Jubilee Marketplace is a Korean family owned business and they're a pillar of the community, committed to quality and low prices. 4.99$ whole rotisserie chicken just like Costco! 5$ for a chunky double patty smash burger with crispy onions, bacon, dripping with cheese. I would come here every day if I could!

Came for the $2.55 smashburger sliders from the 20g Cafe, which by the way are fantastic; lotta drinks to choose from too. Sliders are a stellar deal, glad I came. Wish I lived in the area, hah. Creative selection of menu items that I'd like to try and it seems like some of the menu items change, so I'd certainly like to come back when I'm back in town. Checked out the actual market and there are things I've never seen at my local regular supermarket. I've never seen such a beautiful variety of my favorite preserves/Jam, bon maman. So many flavors. Lotta Korean products, but also a good selection of international/European products too. upstairs bathroom was super well-kept when I used it. Feels safe, so that's like a dead giveaway this place is solid. I could poop in piece which is rare in public.

This batch of 4.99 chicken was so salty. Hate to say it. It’s inedible. I also had the enoki mushshroom burger. It was just deep fried breading. No mushrooms at all. Don’t know what went wrong here.

Honestly the supermarket is 2x more expensive than the average supermarket, but their food court is reason why I really go there. They have good value burgers and other items. If your on a budget and want a late night snack, then I'd recommend there food court. Supermarket is overpriced and is not justified.

Google
What an incredible grocery store and not too expensive! The fresh mushroom selection alone is an example of how special this place is. Huge selection of fresh produce including hyper-local farmers market section with rare organic vegetables. Also, an incredible Korean foods and tinned fish section!!! Cafe upstairs has super nice staff and great espresso drinks with breakfast/lunch items. Great job, welcome to the neighborhood!

Google
Jubilee has a great supermarket selection (fun merch too!) and friendly staff! We also tried their viral $2.75 smashburgers -- nothing to write home about, but definitely worth its price tag!

Yelp
This review is specifically for the man who squeegees the exterior of the building. I walk past Jubilee nearly every day and this man is always out there, working hard to make sure it is sparkling amidst all of the construction dust from the nearby site. It's evident that if a grocery store takes this much pride and puts this much care into its upkeep, it's a special place. Love the burgers and the condiment aisle too, but mostly squeegee man! Keep it up.

Yelp
Been here for both regular groceries and the viral burger. It's split into two floors. The main floor is the food-court area. Below is the grocery store. The grocery store is very nice and clean. Has a wide variety of foods and a surprising amount of Asian foods and other specialty foods. Prices were kinda expensive (in comparison to other places in the area). Staff very nice. The main floor is where you can order food. I had the viral burger and it's very good for the price. It's small, but for the price of a McDonald's burger, you can have a real hamburger.

Yelp
I came to the market to see if they had any items I could add to this week's menu, and it was an educational visit, to say in the least. I was pleasantly surprised with all the fresh fruits and vegetables in stock. They also had an entire area just for mushrooms exclamation. I mean like really good mushrooms! I know I will definitely back to get some of the lions mane variety for when I go to Virginia next time because I need to make vegan crab cakes from my grandfather (allergic to seafood). They also feature a luxe skin and body care atra with top brands from the US and Asia. The prices here are quite a bit higher than any of the Asian stores I've ever visited in NYC, likely due to the location. I found some really cool items that I've never seen anywhere else.So I picked them up for food prep in the future. Come check it out, you might find some good stuff!

Yelp
3.5 Walking in you are greeted wit the aromas of burgers on the grill. The upstairs is dedicated to a 20g Cafe serving up burgers, BEC, ramen and some other items. After reading about it in Eater we thought we'd give it a try. It was quite busy when we arrived and it took quite awhile for our order to come out. The burgers are super cheap, $2.15, and a little more to add cheese. They are a smash burger served on a potato slider bun with grilled onions and pickles. The burger itself comes off as tangy, so IMO it's hard to actually taste the meat. For $3 you can get a side of tater tots which was a nice sized portion for the price. While the burgers are indeed cheap, they are small and one does not a meal make. I was slightly disappointed afterwards, but enjoyed eating it. We then went downstairs to check out the market, which has a nice selection; including fresh cheese, meat and fish counters. Market prices are on the high side for most items.

Yelp
Cheap food. Excellent service. Ambiance is like a mini food court. Nice variety in the supermarket below.

Yelp
Supermarket. NO PURCHASE. Knew this Grocery was EXPENSIVE the moment I walked into this place. JUBILEE is known for being a Gourmet Grocery Store. I actually did make a purchase in JUBILEE at 20 GRAMS upstairs who sell their Hamburgers at a ridiculously low price. Due to pricing be wary of the Grocery. CAUTION.

Yelp
I really hoped this burger lived up to it's reputation. Sadly, the sauce was this Burger's demise. I ordered 8 sliders and after the 1st, I couldn't get to the 2nd. I live in NJ and this place honors White Manna in Hackensack. To be honest, the onions are the biggest hindrance to the greatness of this slider. The amount of onions ruined the taste of the burger. I tried to eat another slider a few days later and it only reminded me how bad my 1st experience was. Brooklyn has no soul and will try to pass off anything to keep it's progressive reputation. This burger sucks.

Yelp
Stopped by today to check out the market and the burgers. Really nice market place. Very clean and nice customer service. Definitely grabbed some cheeseburgers to go. Hands down a great burger worth more than its price! It's a solid cheeseburger that we really enjoyed. One is definitely not enough. Simply a brilliant little burger that tastes great at an amazing price!! Definitely returning!

Yelp
Good grocery store. Well organized. Great fresh meat and fish counter. I feel sk fancy and adult when I buy raw fish wrapped in paper. The coffee selection is weird. Mostly whole beans. No Chock full of Nuts for some reason. I keep buying my food here.

Yelp
I finally took the time to taste THE burger! The infamous burger for only $2.55. The burger that is so tasty and inexpensive they offer their burger in bundles. The garlic confit. The pickle. The onion. The sauce. The bun. The burger!! Everything paired super well together and tasted lovely. I not only tried the burger but I also tried the tuna melt. Both were delish. The tuna melt came on the same bun, included pickles, cheese, a nice ratio of toppings to bun to meat. The only criticism I have is that they are pretty small. So if you are hungry like I was, you might need to buy another.. which is exactly what I did after shopping downstairs and spending way too much bc grocery stores are thieves! Period! Sigh! But at least you can get a super good cheap burger that makes you smile! Which is exactly what I did right after I finished shopping.. haha! Bc I was still hungry! lol! Worth it! And when I went back I picked up the tater tots which were hot and crunchy. I would have liked a lil salt, but they didn't need it. Everything was delish and I will definitely be going back for more!!!

Yelp
The market downstairs has an impressive selection and everything I've tried, including the meat and fish counter, has been great quality! I feel like their 20grams Cafe right inside the entrance is a hidden gem! The drinks are so well-made and seriously, you can't beat these prices in nyc. They also have fun unique drinks, like island time (butterfly pea flower, coconut water, lime) and tune-up tea (iced hibiscus tea, ginger, and lychee) which are really refreshing without the caffeine. I've had their to-go items a few times, and I really like their salads cause they're always fresh and huge portions. Beyond the croissants, miniature cakes, and kolaches (soft bread buns stuffed with sweet or savory fillings - and they heat it up for you!), they also serve legit food like quesadillas with scratch made tortillas. I found out they change the menu every two weeks, so I'm excited to see what their chefs come up with next. And they're open early for breakfast until late for dinner, which works great because they're conveniently right next to the ferry stop :)

Yelp
I strongly and wholeheartedly recommend our new grocery store in Greenpoint! Food selection and quality is impressive, with a wide range of imported food, including hard to find gourmet items. This business also deeply cares about our community! Their very generous support to our public school PS31 allowed much additional education opportunities to the children of our neighborhood! I will shop nowhere else, and I hope all of you as well!

Yelp
My new favorite marketplace! Everything here is really fresh and the prices are very comparable to other supermarkets like Trader Joe's. It's also not as busy so it's not overwhelming to shop

Yelp
Stopped in on a stroll down west.st. and was blown away by the quality and prices. It seems like a stealth fancy Korean grocery in the vein of hmart, hiding in an anonymous condo supermarket...artisanal gochujangs, extensive frozen Korean seafoods, seasonings, etc. The mushroom selection is huge and they sell a house made jarred wild mushroom in olive oil from unsold stock. They claim to be a whole animal butcher, and the meat selection looked solid and well priced. Produce was the only section that seemed undistinguished. I bought some of those jarred mushrooms, Ventrusca Tuna on sale for $7(!), and a jar of the elusive Sambal oeleck, which has been absent from store shelves for over 2 years. I'll be back.
