3 Best Day Trips from San Diego | Condé Nast Traveler

"Like pizza in New York or cheesesteaks in Philly , everyone has their own favorite apple pie in the historic mining town of Julian, CA, but Julian Pie Company is a sure bet if you're popping into town for the day. You can taste the apple pie in different forms: original, no added sugar, apple with cherries, apple with peaches, apple with mixed berries, and the list goes on. Apple-haters can dig into peach, blackberry, and other options. Opt for a crumb-packed crust if you prefer your pie on the sweeter, more buttery side. There's real tradition here: Julian Pie Company is a family-owned business, slinging pies for more than 30 years (they also own a nearby apple orchard that's 17,000 trees strong)." - Archana Ram

15 Essential San Diego Pie Shops and Purveyors | Eater San Diego

"While there’s no official Julian Co. Pie shop in San Diego it would be remiss not to mention the iconic SoCal company, whose whole pie creations can be found at local stores like Siesel’s, Just Peachy and Cardiff Seaside Market. Fillings include several variations of apple from classic to Dutch, plus fruits like boysenberry, cherry and rhubarb, of which sugar free versions are also available." - darlene-horn

We had to go here! The pies were so good. I had three kinds, natural apple pie with melted sharp cheddar, strawberry rhubarb and a sweeter apple berry pie. I loved that they had pies with no added sugar. I had an iced coffee which was refreshing. The area is so pretty with windy roads. Go here now!

Google
Came here on a Monday. Not as crowded. Good variety of pies. Their cinnamon ice cream is really good with apple pies. Vanilla ice cream pairs well with berry pies. My favorite is strawberry rhubarb. The Dutch apple pie had a nice crust. Bring a cooler so you can take home pies for later.

Google
Still the 1st stop when we come into the town of Julian! There is usually a line but the employees move fast and are very friendly. We love the boysenberry apple crumble with no topping. You can have ice cream alamode but you don’t need it. The Carmel apple crumble is super sweet and needs coffee ☕️ to wash it down. Don’t forget the apple cider maple donuts to take home!

Matthew L.

Google
We got the Natural Apple. It was just sweet enough to go with this cleaner version over the others. Good apple to crust ratio. Great vibes outside to sit and eat. You have to get one while you’re in town. Pro tip, there is a side window if you are buying an entire pie.

Google
Love stopping here every time I visit Julian. This is the place that makes the BEST Pies! I always get a big slice of Pie with a Big scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream...SO GOOD!!

Tommy

Google
Nice spot with lots of outdoor seating. There’s the main restaurant and then a pies, merchandise, and souvenirs shop where the bathrooms are located. - mountain berry apple pie w/ ice cream 5/5 - apple cider donut with maple 5/5 - chocolate chip cookie 3/5 - coffee and cappuccino 3/5

Google
Leisurely drive from Indio to Julian. First, pie! I had the apple cherry crumble and my partner had tradish apple. Both were delicious, but the apple cherry crumble was the standout. Cute pioneer town and delicious pie. Worth it.

Google
Julian pies are the best… If we lived closer we’d come more often! Happy they have separate (shorter) lines if you buy whole pies! Unfortunately, they had run out of their pumpkin apple pie just before we got there - so that was disappointing as it took years for us to finally visit there again! We ended up getting peach-apple and mixed berry - top it off with cashew yogurt and coconut creme and we’re on cloud nine! 😋

Yelp
I want to begin by pointing out wow, WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES, this place totally RE-DID its outside areas!!! We noticed this right upon our approach. We knew that this year we would be having our slices of pie outside. It was so, so nice for us and the other people there. NO MORE UNEVEN WOODEN PLATFORMS!!! I'm somewhat disabled and this came as a pleasant surprise. We enter through the same doorway, which leads into a much more open service area THANKS TO THE NEW PATIO AREA. I spoke with JOURNEY, who is one of the FOUR GRANDDAUGHTERS, of the original founder. She explained how they decided to expand, and use cement to make it VERY SAFE, especially for DISABLED PERSONS!!! She explained how that would have been important for her GRANDMOTHER, the original baker of THE PIES. We left with 4 BAKED PIES, and a SIGNATURE MUG. We also enjoyed 2 Pies while we were up THERE, a Pecan à la MODE and a Boysenberry Pie, along with 2 APPLE CIDERS. We enjoyed them on the NEW outside patio. JOB WELL DONE, Julian Pie Company!!! SEE YOU NEXT XMAS!!!

Yelp
Our visit to Julian took place during Julian Apple Days, which meant big crowds, long lines, and difficult parking. Even so, Julian Pie Company stood out with what we felt were the best apple pies we had ever eaten. The line was long but seemed to advance pretty quickly (pro tip, there's a much shorter line off to the side for whole pie orders only) and the cashiers greeted us with big cheerful smiles. We chose a slice of the natural apple pie, sweetened only with apple cider, as well as a slice of boysenberry apple crumb pie, along with a scoop of ice cream on the side. It was perfection, and well worth the wait.

Yelp
After living in SD for a few years, we finally made the drive to Julian and tried these famous pies! I have to say it was worth the wait to come here AND the wait in line. I'm not a big pie person, but I enjoyed the two slices that we tried. We had the original apple pie with vanilla ice cream and the pecan pie with vanilla ice cream. Both of these were incredible - it makes me want to go back thinking about the fresh warm pie and the cold ice cream. We also tried the hot cider but it honestly wasn't for me. Although there was a long line, it moved pretty quickly and our orders came out in just a few minutes after ordering from the counter. I was also pleased that there's quite a few tables and chairs outside. It was full when we got in line but because people are coming in and out all day, we were able to find a table easily. We really enjoyed our time here and would recommend people to try it at least once.

Yelp
Always a delicious time at the Julian pie company. Every item I have tried has always been exceptional and kept me as a loyal fan. I am happy that all over San Diego county is a plethora of Julian pies that taste just as good as the ones from the OG location. I recently tried the pecan pie as of 11/23/25 and it was surprisingly the best pecan pie I've had in San Diego. I have seen a recipe recently online where the bottom half of the pecan pie was made into like an egg custard type of pie with a pecan pie topping and wondered if any places did that in San Diego. Lo and behold I find out Julian pie company's pecan pies are simply that. If you grew up eating filipino desserts, egg pie (egg custard pie) could have been something you would see on a 90's dessert table. Pecan pie tarts were also huge back then and usually spotted at Filipino parties and gatherings. I miss 90s Filipino dessert tables because it was only a table holding traditional handcrafted desserts that had recipes passed down by generations. Quality over aesthetics for sure. Now dessert tables are about themes and aesthetics, sometimes cultural fusion desserts. But I digress.. I love that there's areas to eat and share pies with your guests. Service is nice.

Yelp
Do I really need to review Julian Pie Company? I mean their reputation is legendary in San Diego County. But since we recently visited them, for maybe the 100th time. How about some pointers instead? Tis the season right now. Apples are ripe and being picked, if you want apple pie, NOW is the time to go. Their culinary offerings are a staple on San Diego families tables and they are delicious. If you are in Julian, and you see a LONG LONG line, chances are you will have two choices. The long line you see is for their full service store front. If you are looking for a slice of pie, or one of their many other offerings, you are in the right line. If however, you just want to pick up some whole pies and maybe some Apple Cider, if you look to your right, you will see another store front. This one is a quick service counter. Usually the line there is short and very quick. In this alternate store front you will find a gift shop. It's worth checking out, they have some really cool items, including premade mixes that you can take home and cook. You will also find frozen pies here, that you can take home and bake. Giving you that very fresh pie experience, right in your own home.

Yelp
Do you like pie? Do you like it fresh with ice cream then run don't walk if you haven't tried this pie shop. It is worth the drive. They have more options than if you purchase it at the market. This time we had the apple rhubarb pie with cinnamon ice cream. I wish I knew how to re-create the cinnamon ice cream. It always completes the flavor. Service is quick and easy. Walk up and order your pie. Plenty of options to eat there and take one home. If you're not a local, you can have it shipped to you. This is a great casual spot to stop on your way to Julian and walk around the town or visit old Gold mines.

Yelp
Came on a Saturday noon, and the wait wasn't too bad! The pies are freshly baked and paired perfectly with the crumb top!! The cinnamon ice cream was also delicious with the pie and wasn't overly sweet. Can definitely see why this is a must try when you're in Julian! The apple cider donut was mediocre, as it was not fresh and nothing that stood out. Definitely would return to try the other pies flavors!
google avatar

Victoria G.

Yelp
Caramel dutch apple is top notch. Our eyes widened at the first bite. Now, I don't think I can eat a plain apple pie anywhere else. The pumpkin apple was good, but really tasted more like a pumpkin-only slice. Lines are always long because it's the most popular pie shop. It moves fairly quickly though. Only downside is that the menu is reduced for certain baked goods based on if you visit during the weekday vs weekend.
google avatar

David Z.

Yelp
This place is a favorite of mine every fall. They've upgraded through the years and really made it nice. Would recommend coming in the morning before the big afternoon rush. The inside is small where you order but there is plenty of seating outside on the patio. The pie is the most amazing with a scoop of ice cream. Definitely a to go spot for all the pie lovers.
google avatar

Yelp
Apple pie from the Julian Pie Company was always a treat and was well worth the drive to the quaint town in San Diego County. Now we live in another state , and although there are many places that make homemade pies, there are none like Julian's. Julian's pies are unsurpassable. Fortunately, they offer overnight delivery, so we ordered two pies. They arrived on time, were very well packed, and are as good as ever. Kudos to Julian Pie Company!
google avatar

Brianna L.

Yelp
Highly recommend stopping here when coming to Julian. The Apple cider Donuts are very delicious and pairs great with a coffee. The only negative is while the outside seating is nice, there are so many wasps! One actually flew into the store and almost stung a little boy. I applaud the brave mom who was able to get the wasp off her son and get it back outside. Pros: * Delicius food * Good Coffee Cons: * Wasps Extra: * Indoor and outdoor seating
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely phenomenal. This is a rite of passage for every SoCal raised kid. Got to take two carfuls of friends to initiate them into our pie cult.....as usual, incredibly professional and fast service, excellent pies, and somehow plenty of seating and clean restrooms despite the massive demand. Love Julian Pie Co!!!
google avatar

Nicole E.

Yelp
Have had the pleasure of trying their caramel apple crumble pie. This is definitely a pie lover's go to in CA. The freshness and look of the pies from here reminds me one of my go to pie shops in MI. Be certain the pie will go quickly...
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped by the Julian Pie Company after all the rave my friends were giving me about the place. It was a quick stop before heading to Borrego Springs to see some desert sculptures. Julian is such a quaint little town and I definitely want to explore more of it. What really caught my surprise on the Julian pie was the option to serve it with a slice of cheese. I love my pies with a slice of cheese. The line was fairly quick and there were several pie options to choose from. Writing this makes me crave a slice.
google avatar

Daniella M.

Yelp
The Julian pie Company is the best Julian pie shop in all of Julian! If you ask me, please do yourself a favor go there and get the fresh baked pie. Get a slice or two and Add the vanilla on the top. You will not be disappointed. It is literally so good ..toddler approved as well ! Every time I've been here, I've had great efficient service. Please also note on the weekends might be very busy as this is a very popular place. Don't be deterred. If there's a long line, it is worth the wait ! and don't forget to grab a whole pie to go those are generally frozen stick it in your oven and it is so delicious
google avatar

Faith D.

Yelp
I am not a pie person LOL but I love their Dutch apple pie! The crumble top is perfection and I haven't found a pie that comes close to it! Even amongst their other pie flavors, I just keep landing back on the Dutch apple so at this point I'm not looking at any of the others lol I always get it with a scoop vanilla ice cream. I've tried it with their other option, cinnamon ice cream, but for me the vanilla is the perfect complement. Also get yourself a bag of apple memories - basically pie pastry cookies shaped in cute apples and hearts and covered in cinnamon sugar! Def want to try their cider donuts and cinnamon rolls next time - they look amazing!
google avatar

Leilani M.

Yelp
Wow this place has some awesome pies! Had the pleasure of trying Dutch apple & apple peach. The crumble topping is so good not overly sweet like most. Plump fruits baked in for that hint of natural sweetness and hint of tang. No soggy bottomed crusts here just flakey buttery toasty goodness. If you're ever in the mood for a drive it's hidden among the hills in the lands where freshly baked pies are found. Thankfully we have friends who luv to travel. Thank you J&J!
google avatar

Eid F.

Yelp
Beautiful outdoor seating area. Pies tasted delicious (we had the Carmel Dutch Apple and Dutch Peach Apple). The Dutch topped pies tasted great but I did think the sugary top was a little too sweet for my taste. PSA: - Skip the long line and go to side window if you want to order a whole pie(s). Parking SUCKS, traffic SUCKS, lines SUCK - for slices a'la mode. - The curvy roads from Alpine (I-8) are more sketchy than coming from Romona (78).
google avatar

Michelle P.

Yelp
Wow I haven't been here since I moved away from San Diego 30 years ago! Went in for classic Apple, Dutch and peach and rhubarb and being family, we just passed those piece around! Each fill of good quality fruit and not too sweet - juice and delicious my goodness - heated up yum yum yum. Then we brought a take-and-make pie home to the beach house - oh yes, Julian! So great to be back!
google avatar

Jemiah J.

Yelp
This place gets busy. Be prepared to wait in line, especially during the weekends. I got a Peach Apple Crumb Pie with Cinnamon Ice Cream. Delicious! The shop is adorable too. They have indoor and outdoor seating. I highly recommend coming here for pies when you're in town. They have both sweet and savory options.
google avatar

Jeff S.

Yelp
Im used to driving up and experiencing the quaint little mountain town. I am now disabled and can't make the trip. However, they do ship their goodies and you can experience the local delights in your home. I ordered 2 pies and they were of course tremendous. Arrived quickly and were phenomenal. My fav was the mountain berry pie and it was perfect. Like wow factor after every bite. Great town, great food, and of course great pie! Do yourself a favor and visit Julian Pie Company for great everything! 5 stars!!!
google avatar

Stephanie B.

Yelp
Of course we had to get some pie while we were in Julian and where else than the Julian Pie Company! We ordered at the counter and our number was called within a minute or two, so even if there is a big line, I would still recommend. We sat outside on their large patio, but they do have a small area indoors with seating. It is a cute little shop to grab a sweet treat! We ordered a slice of the boysenberry apple and the caramel Dutch apple and both were delicious, but I preferred the apple. We got the vanilla ice cream on the side and also a cider donut!
google avatar

Amanda J.

Yelp
Great spot for Julian pie! There's always a line to order whenever I come, but it's definitely worth the wait. They have limited indoor and outdoor seating. The pies are fresh and delicious, and they serve a very generous scoop of ice cream if you order it on the side.
google avatar

Haylee M.

Yelp
Hack to stop by here while his passing through Julian after hearing that they are famous for their apple pies. I can totally see the hype! A very cute place on the outside and quick service as well. Really love the portion size of all the pies here and pretty much everything that was there on the menu. There was a display of the items that they had available for the day and everything looked really appetizing. The cookies were really large and those cinnamon rolls were unbelievable! I saw someone who ordered the cinnamon rolls and it actually looked so soft and fluffy and delicious! We got the all-natural apple pie to try a version without sugar added. And it was honestly a little tart for some reason. I thought they would have maybe put some monk fruit or others alternative sweeteners but maybe they're just avoided any sweetener. Or maybe the pie was meant to be tart, I'm not too sure about that. Also tried the Dutch Apple Pie and this was phenomenal! That crumb topping on top really seals the deal! A properly nice sweet pie with a flaky crust and that perfect crunchy topping on top. Definitely recommend! Sister-in-law also tried the hot chocolate and she finished it really quick so I'm guessing it was good!
google avatar

Estefania C.

Yelp
Must stop in Julian! All the pies are delicious! You have to get apple tho. Delicious. I want more pie. Great service. You order in the front and pick up your order a few minutes later. I got the boysenberry apple and wow always delicious. I got it topped with the cinnamon ice cream. You can also do vanilla but the cinnamon I think takes it up a notch. They also have other desserts like apple cider donuts and more. I got some of the cookies that are pie crust with cinnamon- very delicious. They are tiny cookies in the shape of hearts. Also got pumpkin and delicious as well with the vanilla ice cream.
google avatar

Kevin H.

Yelp
Really good pie place. The staff there was nice and there wasn't too much of a wait when I went (10 am). This place does get busy though. There is a lot of seating outside and some seating inside. You can order by the slice or by a whole pie.
google avatar

Jacey H.

Yelp
My family has been coming here my whole life. All of their pie is delicious and their apple cider donuts are to die for. Such a jewel in a gem of a town and could not recommend them enough.
google avatar

Ali L.

Yelp
Worth the wait! There will be a line, but you could also go to the shop next door to get pies to go. The Dutch Apple was delicious, and so was the Mountain Berry Apple! You can get ice cream added if you want for an extra cost, or cheese, which is apparently popular on some of the pies as well. I believe there are a couple of other toppings as well. Service was helpful with suggestions and friendly. We sat outside, as there are plenty of tables. Unfortunately they use disposable cutlery and plates, but it is so busy and a small shop. My only recommendation to them would be to switch from plastic cutlery to something more sustainable. I definitely recommend going out of your way to try these pies, and walk around the cute town of Julian as well!
google avatar

Marcie L.

Yelp
Came here on a Tuesday afternoon around 1:30 PM and the place was packed, at least 10 people ahead of me in line. Even so, the wait was short, less than 10 minutes from ordering to getting my slice. I tried the Boysenberry Apple Crumb topped with ice cream. It came out to a little over $10, which felt a bit steep for a slice of pie. I thought it was fine. No wow factor for me. The ice cream tasted homemade. That was the best part. To be fair, I don't have much of a sweet tooth and usually prefer pecan pie, so I might be a little biased. That said, the experience was worth it. The staff were super friendly, they had a wide variety of options, and the outdoor seating area was beautiful (with indoor seating available too). A fun stop if you're in the area and want the full Julian pie experience.
google avatar

Luana S.

Yelp
One might ask themself, is $27.95 too much to pay fir a pie? My answer is if you come to Julian Pie Company, no. The pies are heavy, filled with fruity goodness and a perfect crust. We used the Whole Pie Express window to get two pies to take home The young lady who helped us was very nice. We got a Strawberru Rhubarb and a Boysenberry Apple Crumb. They are delightful! As others mentioned there is a nice outdoor seating area. The line to get inside was long. No one seemed to mind. Definitely worth the drive to get there.
google avatar

Sam P.

Yelp
Well it was one heck of a ride to get there, but was it worth it? I had a slice of natural apple pie, sweetened with apple cider and an apple cider donut with maple frosting. The doughnut was a cake one, super heavy and very sweet. The frosting was thick and had a good maple taste. The pie was sweet and the pastry flaky but not fall apart into a mess level. It was browned perfectly. But by the next day the base of the pie had turned so soggy it tasted undercooked, Was it worth the ride, yes it was, but I advise you to eat the pie the same day you buy it based off my experience. Granted this could've just been my pie though.
google avatar

Amy L.

Yelp
I love Julian Pies. In my opinion the best pies are Julian Pies. I have not had a decent pie since I moved away from Alpine. My daughter and her husband went on vacation to Southern California for Thanksgiving and they brought me back my favorite strawberry rhubarb pie. This pie traveled 728 miles to make it to my table. I am so blessed to have a wonderful daughter. She said the staff was amazing and thought the pie shop was so adorable.
google avatar

Baylee-Anne N.

Yelp
Truly amazing pie! I can't get enough of this place. It's located in a wonderful little tan that is swarming with visitors in the summer and on weekends but during the week... you'll find a quieter vibe and of course, delicious pie! There are quite a few tasty flavors to try. My favorite is likely the berry one or the classic apple. Paired with some ice cream and it's the best little pie date ever. They have some outside seating and we found ourselves on a wonderful family date under the umbrella shade. The girls inside were friendly and quick. You can tell they have service of these pie slices down. I highly recommend you stop in for a slice and if you find one you love, order a pie to go! A total 10/10 pie experience.
google avatar

Tina C.

Yelp
Great customer service and clean dining area. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Ordered the peach apple pie and the triple berry w the ice cream it was so flavorful and delicious. Would def recommend adding the ice cream to it, so worth the price.
google avatar

Adrian G.

Yelp
Beautiful scenery and location, delicious pie, the friendliest employees. Joe has to be one of the kindest and coolest guy around here, he gave great recommendations and informative info on the different pies. He helped me decide on their Dutch pie with cinnamon ice cream. It was delicious. Nothing against Mom's pies, but these guys are at least as good, with a little extra friendliness and authentic people that like what they do.
google avatar

Rhonda S.

Yelp
They have the best Dutch Apple Pie! You have to try it with cinnamon ice cream it is so yummy. The line does get long but it is definitely worth the wait.
google avatar

Tory O.

Yelp
If you come to Julian, Julian Pie Company is a must try! The lines are usual long , but it's for good reason. The best pie you'll ever have! They have the original apple pie but also have specialities like Boysenberry Apple as well. My favorite is the Dutch Caramel Apple pie. They use home made caramel to top the pie and it's the best pie I've ever had hands down! You can also add toppings like whipped cream or a huge serving of vanilla ice cream.
google avatar

Timothy T.

Yelp
The ambiance in this city is super chill but when you enter, you're greeted with an amazing playlist of music setting the tone. The outdoor area has plenty of seats and is very clean, also kid and pet friendly!! Okay now the pies, by no means do I like pie because of its texture and sweetness. But this has made this pie enemy, into a pie enthusiast. I didnt know that pies could taste like this. Not too sweet, the crumble on top is perfection, and the ice cream (both vanilla and cinnamon) complimented the pie. The cinnamon was very mild and not overpowering at all.
google avatar

Brianne P.

Yelp
Yum! Really yummy pie and worth the wait. If you get your pie for "here", they warm it up for you. 10/10 with vanilla (or cinnamon) ice cream on top. They even give you a small straw to sip up the melted ice cream! You can get other baked goods such as apple loaves, or cookies. The hot cider was perfect for the cold day. The line will be long... especially on the weekend. Worth it! You can either wait in the longer line to see the whole menu, or walk up and order a whole pie in the other line. The have a cold case with pies to grab and go. They have a large patio in the back for seating as well.
google avatar

Leeza D.

Yelp
Julian is apple country and the Julian Pie company fully uses the abundance to make a wonderful selection of pies. The line was long when we came and instead of opting to get individual pies ala mode, we ended up getting whole pies. I would have loved to try the ice cream, maybe one day. They pies were good but not great. I was surprised there was not as much fruit as I was anticipated. A lot more of the gooeyness than pieces of fruit. It was also sweeter than I expected. Overall great experience. There is a separate line for whole pies, which was shorter than the main line. Casual with outdoor seating. Please come and create your own experience.
google avatar

Domingo C.

Yelp
The pies are very delicious and the place is really nice!I highly recommend them to everyone!
google avatar

Kaloni S.

Yelp
This place is really small, but cozy. There's 5 tables inside and plenty of outdoor seating available as well. The line goes really quick, which is nice! You definitely have to try the pie while you're here. Food and drink review: Poor man's mocha: Tastes exactly like its ingredients! Pretty good and perfect for a cold day. Cinnamon cider donut: This was yummy! Perfect little bite size. Peach apple pie: It has a nice subtle peach taste. The flavors blended well together and so tasty warmed up. Caramel apple Dutch with side of cinnamon ice cream: I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious the ice cream was! The pie is perfect. It's definitely on the sweeter side so you can share a slice!

Leah C.

Yelp
Great pie!! Definitely was not expecting Disney length lines, but I was able to skip the wait and head to a separate window for whole pies to go. I got the Dutch Caramel Apple and it was incredible. If you've got the time and the craving it's definitely worth it to head to Julian Pie Co!
google avatar

Shannon M.

Yelp
One of the best spots in Julian! Great pie and staff. It's a super cool atmosphere and the location is great and walkable from downtown Julian.
google avatar

Mary R.

Yelp
It is amazing that you can order this wonderful pie and have it delivered and it tastes as fresh as the Resturants bakeries in town . We loved the amount of time it took to deliver . Eating at home isn't as special as in cute Julian home town flair ! But it is still awesome
google avatar

Ron R.

Yelp
We go to Julian as a day trip just to get the apple pie and to get hard cider. The people here are always friendly and patient even though they are constantly very busy. During peak tourist months (Summer & Spring) there is a line out the door and it can get quite loud. It is nice to go during the off season during the winter months. There is limited seating inside and some outdoor seating. They have one toilet to your left as you enter. The menu does not seem to have changed for years. We like the Dutch apple and Dutch apple with caramel the best. The caramel one only really tastes good with vanilla ice cream but is very good with it as it cuts the sweetness. They sell slices, whole ready made pies, and I believe frozen. We definitely recommend getting a slice with vanilla ice cream while there and getting a pie to go. They do not recommend refrigerating any pies you buy but rather eat them within a week. Refrigeration makes them soggy. Definitely worth a day trip whether you are a tourist or a local. There are places to stay in Julian, but we think a day trip is best for this location. Restaurants along the way are better than in Julian and just eating pie can be your meal!

Yelp
This pie was everything you want in a perfect slice--flaky, buttery crust and a filling that tasted homemade and full of love. Not too sweet, just right. Whether you go for apple, pecan, or cherry, you can taste the care in every bite. Definitely a slice of comfort.

Yelp
Made w drive/cruise up to Julian to try the pies here. It really is good as what people rave about. There's a separate line for whole pies and single slices both have long lines so come early! We tried the pumpkin apple crumb, boysenberry apple crumb, and peach apple crumb. All with cinnamon ice cream on top. Though I did see most ppl opted for the Vanilla icecream but the cinnamon was delicious with the pie! My favorite was the pumpkin apple crumb! Parking is street-only. There are plenty of seats outside, but only one restroom here so prepare to wait in line if needed!

Yelp
OMG! We live in SD and go to Julian every year - Always between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day to show off the intimate cozy, homey feeling of this little mountain town. The crowning jewel of the town is Julian Pie Company. It has a HUGE line out the door and down the street at all times because their pie is just THAT good. SHHHH! Here's the secret, skip the line and buy with a whole frozen pie OR fresh from a very short line on the side. All their pies are amazing but our new family fav is caramel apple pie crumble. A--- MAZ---ING!!!
