Smorgasburg Heavyweights Open Matcha Shop in Rowland Heights | Eater LA
"Opening a second location in Rowland Heights after launching at Smorgasburg LA in 2017 and a Westwood branch in 2018, the team aims to bring their matcha-driven menu closer to Asian communities by taking over a former Frostolicious spot. The shop emphasizes high-quality, ethically sourced Japanese tea — the founders personally visited a tea farm to select pure, sustainably grown leaves that are ground with no additives, powdered milks, or high-fructose corn syrup. Offerings include coffee (with espresso shots available for matcha drinks), a rotating roster of 21 inventive colorful beverages that combine nontraditional ingredients like aloe and white chocolate, soft-serve matcha, and savory-sweet rice balls called “onimatchas” made with actual matcha in the rice and fillings such as salmon, tuna, and spam. Hours are listed as noon to 10 p.m. daily, and the team maintains a presence at Smorgasburg on Sundays." - Mona Holmes
One of the best and most consistent places if you want good matcha drinks. Visit the Rowland heights location often and I rarely ever have any complaints about their drinks. Healthier and much more consistent than the other drinks place on the plaza.
The staff is very welcoming and friendly. The place itself is small, but has enough seating if you wanted to stay a bit. You can order off a device or from a staff who can help you decide on your drinks
From their seasonal selection to their core menu, I love all their matcha drinks. If you want something with more caffeine, you can always have a “dirty” option with an espresso shot.
My go to drink is always the guava matcha cold brew with chia seeds. Delicious and refreshing. Great balance of matcha and guava flavor.

The menu options at Junbi are so wide, it takes a minute to pick what drink you're feeling that day. Lately I have been appreciating the classic Matcha cold brews. Strawberry and Mango are my faves. I haven't tried their food options yet but they look good. I also got some of the Miffy collab merch and it is the cutest!

This was a cute little place near the ramen spot - I wanted to give this 5 but the only reason I’m giving it a four because of the way they fill the ice cream - it is in fact hollow in the middle so you definitely get jipped - idk why they do that ? Other ice cream spots don’t do this so you get more ice cream overall ! Bummer because the flavor is decent ! Just look at the other reviews with the pictures of the hollowed out ice creams I wish I took one of my own :(

I would say I'm very impressed by the Matcha Cold Brew series drinks! I've tried most of them, and each one is very flavorful. If you also love matcha, I definitely recommend them!

This location has gone downhill. Used to come here all the time, almost weekly in 2023-2024 for their blueberry matcha cold brew, but at some point they started skimping out on the matcha concentration. It used to be a vibrant green color with a pleasant matcha taste but the last 10 times I tried it (I cannot believe I even gave them that many chances) it was pastel green and only tasted like milk. I’m not sure if this location has changed their recipe but I’m just really disappointed that I don’t have a go-to matcha place anymore ):

If you want to drink some bomb matcha drinks. Junbi is the place to go. I never been to a place where they have fresh matcha like they do. The way they make their matcha drinks are perfect. It's not too sweet, it's just right. The food they have there is also incredibly drooling for and it's called the onimatcha. The employees are kind and they are quick with serving your order. My personal favorite is the aloe matcha. All in all this place is amazing I recommend this place if you are in desire a very healthy drink, but at the same time fulfill your tastebuds.

Junbi is still a solid spot to get matcha drinks.
I tried the Madagascar vanilla recently and it was a pass. The guava matcha latte was so good though.

Drinks are solid, mostly matcha drinks, with three different types of plant based milk options - oat, coconut, and soy. They have a variety of toppings as well. No vegan soft serve. Few tables, no public restrooms.
