"Set in the historic Brockmann-Kiehne house within a newly assembled hotel complex, the barbecue menu from chef Justin Spencer emphasizes traditional smoked meats—brisket, spare ribs, turkey, pulled pork, baby back ribs, sausage (regular and jalapeño), and chicken—paired with classic sides like potato salad, green beans, coleslaw, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, and a baked potato casserole; the venue also includes a stage for live music." - Courtney E. Quite possibly the best bbq in town. After trying multiple places, this clears the rest by far. Mac and cheese had perfectly cooked Mac, not mushy at all. Ribs were well flavored throughout. Outdoor seating and live music performance hit the spot.

We went to Junebug's on a Friday afternoon just after 12 pm. Street parking was pretty full but we lucked out and had someone pull out after one lap around the block. I had searched BBQ in Fredericksburg to try something new. I have had Eaker's BBQ (it's good) but was catered so I haven't been to their location. I wanted to try something different and chose Junebug's. We got turkey, OG sausage link, fatty brisket, and baby back ribs along with mac & cheese and potato salad as sides. I will break down each component: Sausage - I asked the guy in the window if this was mealy and he assured me it wouldn't be. It was not mealy, not dry and the casing had a good snap to it. Turkey - tender and has a light smoke flavor to it. Slicked thick so it didn't dry out. Brisket - cut very thick for brisket (2 slices = 1/2 pound). The top piece of brisket you can see in the pictures how thick it was cut. The flat of that piece was a bit dry but the rest of the piece was very tender. It had a really good bark on it as well. Ribs (baby back) - this is one of the best ribs I have had in BBQ in a while. I prefer baby backs for BBQ but often only see spare ribs as baby backs tend to dry out so places don't make them. Not here, not Junebug's. The ribs were tender, had great bite and pulled off the bone without falling apart. On to the sides - homemade or scratch made which is ideal. Definitely not premade delivered by Sysco. Mac & Cheese - flavorful as M&C should be, pasta was al dente and not mushy, creamy but still a bit pasty. I prefer the cheese sauce creamy so it runs a little of the spoon or fork. I had to add pepper as well. Potato salad - this one was spot on flavorful. Give one the pictures a zoom and you can see the mustard seeds in the dressing. I am from Austin and have hit just about every BBQ place here since I moved here in 2004. This is a top spot anywhere you put it. If you are out in the area, it is for sure worth the stop. The only downfalls for me was it was outside seating only and they had mainly domestic crappy beers. We have plenty of Texas craft options to not have the standard domestics.

We were excited to try this new bbq spot. We drove out from the Austin area and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere was great. We got our food quickly. The meats were cooked really well. The sides were delicious. Their sauce is on the sweet side.

We ordered our Thanksgiving meal from this BBQ spot, and it was absolutely fantastic. Everything was flavorful, perfectly cooked, and tasted like it was made with real care. The turkey was tender and juicy, the sides were delicious, and the portions were generous — our whole group loved it. Pickup was smooth and well-organized, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. They made the holiday so much easier for us, and the food truly exceeded our expectations. We’ll definitely be ordering from them again — highly recommend!

Came back starving on Thanksgiving Day, after 4.5 hours of hiking Enchanted Rock. Got the fatty brisket, OG sausage, and pulled pork with coleslaw and potato salad. They make the best pickled Serrano peppers. Pulled pork was a bit too sweet, but super tender and juicy. Brisket was awesome and the sausage was juicy. Portions are good and sliced bread is soft and goes great with pulled pork! Ate everything before we could take pictures.

Food was delicious you eat outside but the seating was very quaint and suits the atmosphere well. Meats were good sides were good. Recommend when you're in town.

Yelp
I've been to Junebug's several times this summer, and I cannot recommend it enough. Brisket and ribs are competition level, the pulled pork is moist and delicious, and the sides are slammin. The sauce is outstanding and unique- perfect for Crntral Texas BBQ if you swing that way. Indoor and outdoor seating combined with the authentic BBQ pits (that you can see from everywhere) create a great vibe. One of the historic buildings on the premises contains the Memphis in May World Championship trophy won by Junebug himself. I was last there for a benefit they held for the Kerrville flooding victims, (where they raised $30k) and I've never seen a staff work so hard. Destination BBQ to be certain.

Yelp
Great looking outdoor dining with a stage for live music which we really enjoyed! The BBQ Master (that's what I call him) took our order of brisket, jalapeño cheese sausage, and turkey. He also advised on sides to order as some were sold out. We chose potato salad, slaw, and mac and cheese. All was served on a sheet pan along with homemade dill pickles, onions, pickled jalapeño peppers, and of course, white bread. The brisket was very tender and well seasoned. The sausage had crispy skin and was juicy inside. Both were better with their BBQ sauce. The turkey was moist and flavorful. My humble suggestion to taking the meat over the top is more smoke and a heavier hand with the seasoning. More bark on the brisket would level it up. The sides went sideways and thus the 3 stars. The macaroni was pretty flavorless, but moist. The slaw tasted like ground cabbage. The potatoes in the potato salad were undercooked which made it inedible. All of those recipes need replacing. A baked potato salad would be a hit. I'd also pass along our family mac and cheese recipe to make them famous, if asked. :) We enjoyed the live music in the intimate setting. Great concept and young people making a go. I'd come back and try again. Give it a try.

Yelp
Food was good, location is cute. Only issue we had were the flies! We couldn't enjoy our food due to bating all the flies away from the food while trying to eat. Couldn't take any pics to show off what we had, due to the flies.

Yelp
The driest Barbecue Brisket in all of Texas; just like leather that needs to be broken in. So disappointing. Don't bother, especially when there are other amazing places, even in Fredericksburg.

Yelp
Tried the brisket...1/2 fatty and 1/2 lean...both were equally unctuous and tender. Some of the best brisket I've ever eaten. The fat on my fingers made my hands really soft. The scent of barbecue always acts an aphrodisiac for my husband. The turkey is juicy, moist and tender with a salt and pepper like flavor...simple and delicious. The jalapeño sauce and the regular sausage are equally delicious, but I prefer the jalapeño/cheese. It was juicy and the cheese oozed out of the sausage with each snappy bite. Ah, the ribs are tender, but hold together. They are served with a flavorful glaze that is a perfect balance of sweet and savory. My husband said they were on a par with Memphis's Central Barbecue ribs...believe that is high praise. Their house sauce compliments their meats well with the sauce's notes of what I think is molasses, vinegar and other ingredients that made it the perfect sauce for all of the Junebug's barbecued cuts of meats. Loved the crispy tangy pickles and the Texas size white bread. One slight criticism...the bread was a bit dry on both of my visits to Junebug's. They might want to leave it in the plastic wrapping until served. Overall, you would be doing yourself a disservice if you don't give Junebug's a try. I'm looking forward to trying the baby back ribs and pulled pork on my next visit! It's new to Fredericksburg, TX so GO before the lines get long!!!

Yelp
Little place has outdoor gravelly seating area. Food is decent (brisket a little fatty, potatoes little too hard potato salad, mac & banana puddin are fire). Total cringe hearing managers yell at workers and workers bickering. Ginger @ register is a sweetie & makes a mean margarita.
