The Best Restaurants in Boulder, College Edition

"The name is a clue to the tropical vibe of this lively little haunt off the Pearl Street Mall, which specializes in rum-centric cocktails both classic (Piña Coladas, Jungle Birds) and contemporary, such as the Mr. Worldwide with mezcal, Michoacán rum, jicama, watermelon, and ancho chile. Delightfully enough, the kitchen maintains the island theme via plantain fritters, fish tacos, and cheeseburgers topped with pineapple as well as onion rings." - Rebecca Treon, Josie Sexton, Ruth Tobias, Nisa Sedaghat

Kick Back with Caribbean Cocktails at Jungle in Boulder - Eater Denver

"Go on vacation in downtown Boulder. Jungle opened its doors in the former PMG space where the tiki cocktails and island wines flow. Alongside Caribbean inspired snacks and small plates, Jungle offers guests a full island living experience. The new concept comes from the team behind nearby restaurant Arcana." - Georgina Rupp

Google
Would really give this place 3.5 stars. Drinks, atmosphere and staff are great. Food is a bit more hit and miss. Plus it doesn't really fit the theme of the place. Fixing their food would definitely increase their star count. Having said all this I would definitely be back for drinks again..

Google
Great spot in Boulder! The place is super cool and laid-back. The burger was really tasty—though it could’ve been a bit bigger. They have a very diverse drink menu with cocktails for every taste. Prices are excellent, and the location is perfect. The restaurant is pretty small, so we ended up sharing a big table with others, but it wasn’t a problem. The service was fantastic, and it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for a place to grab a quick bite or try some unique drinks.

Google
Food was actually pretty great, as were the drinks. Got seated right away, found out it was some celebration or something for the establishment. Ordered drinks and an appetizer, which were great and came out quick. Waitress didn't check in for another 45 minutes. Eventually, another waitress came by and grabbed our orders for entrees. A Warning about the Shrimp Skewers, the metal on the skewer is fresh off the fire. Should've thought about this, but it was just dropped on the table, so I didn't. Got a small second degree fingertip burn from the skewer which... I should've realized it was hot, but there was also no way to eat without grabbing the skewer. I chalk that 50/50. Usually I'd grab some ice or something and it'd be a non-issue, but after 45 minutes we had no drinks or water, and thus no ice. Never did actually get a refill on the water, and would've liked to place a second drink order, but never got the chance. Gave up eventually and had to flag down another waitress to get our check. It's not a bad place, but our particular experience was not great. Again, food/drinks/decor are great, and maybe during a normal day things would've been fine, but we didn't get much by way of service.

Google
Awesome tiki bar with quality cocktails. Had the Romaine Calm, Dijon Sanders, and house Mai Tai. The sunflower seed orgeat in the Mai Tai was truly 'chef's kiss', could easily pound the Romaine Calm, and the Dijon was a fun savory experience.

Google
Stopped in for drinks before dinner and was such a great choice. Outdoor seating was perfect. Drinks were great. If you want something strong, you won’t regret getting the tiny dancer!

Google
couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend a saturday afternoon than at Jungle. I stumbled upon it while cruising around Boulder, and happy I did. Such a great atmosphere and the staff was so kind. I’ll be back!

Google
Jungle is hands down one of the best bars in Boulder, and I’d say the front range. I’ve been coming for years. The staff is incredible and fun. The food is tastyyyyy The drinks are impeccable This isn’t your typical “tiki” bar; the drinks aren’t tasteless and loaded with sugar. Best drinks and staff around, by far

Caroline Hamilton

Google
The drinks always slap, the food is nothing crazy but it’s always good (think a step beyond typical bar food). We love their happy hour deals too! The vibe of this place is always great.

Yelp
I visited Jungle on a whim while visiting Pearl St. as a solo traveler. I came in for a light dinner, ordering the fish tacos as my meal. This meal includes two small fish tacos, which a like on the side and pickled onions. You get the option of either corn or flour tortillas.. I went with corn. While being a very small portion, they were very reasonably priced ($8) and delicious. I got two cocktails while there as well. First I got the "Saturn", a gin based fruity cocktail. This was very light, sweet, and refreshing. Second I got the mango daiquiri (frozen). This was surprisingly very "real" tasting opposed to being loaded with sugar and artificial flavoring. In fact, it might have been my favorite tropical frozen cocktail I've had!! Not to mention both cocktails were very aesthetically pleasing. The atmosphere in here was wonderful, filled with fun jungle (hence the name) art and decor, lighting, and decent music. While it is small inside, it doesn't feel cramped. The highlight of this visit for me was the incredible service. The bar staff was very kind and fun, which made my experience as a solo traveler very welcoming and exciting. As soon as my water was empty, staff came over and filled it immediately. All staff were smiling and courteous. In all, I highly recommend Jungle! While it may fit the tourist vibe.. it's still a decent place worth a try.

Yelp
Great service Friendly staff Comfortable seats I will be back Plantains were delicious

Yelp
This place has all the vibes and the most unique cocktails. We've been coming for years! My only feedback would be that it can be hit or miss as to whether or not they're actually open when you show up. It's a popular spot to rent out for events (for great reason!) but I haven't seen them post about it on their website or GoogleMaps so we've arrived maybe 3-4 times and it's been closed for a private event. Disappointing, but not a deterrent because everything is great. The food, too! Bring back the crabby patty, though!

Yelp
Great service and super cute and good tasting drinks. Went after lunch, but there too early for happy hour. Sat outside.

Yelp
Food 5/5 - We had the cajun fries and the shrimp skewers with brown butter. Absolutely delicious & went perfectly with our drinks! Drinks 5/5 - From the taste to their presentations, all cocktails we ordered were perfect. My personal favorite was the Zombie! Cocktail came with a tiny flame on top of the drink and once the flame was out, it gave off this smell that instantly transports you to an all inclusive tropical vacation on an island Service 4/5 - Everyone working there were SO nice and knowledgeable! It did take them awhile to check in on us for more drinks, but to be fair, we went during their HH so the restaurant was packed! Ambiance 5/5 - Fun, busy, good vibes everywhere. I would recommend this as a fun date night or an outing with friends! 10/10 will be back :)

Yelp
We planned a trip to Boulder for my sister's birthday to see a band play at Upslope Brewing Co later in the evening. Jungle was an awesome addition to our celebratory day! Their craft cocktail program was impressive to say the least. Every glass and drink told a story and played homage to its flavors. If you like rum this is a must-visit spot. For food I enjoyed their cheeseburger on a Hawaiian bun and their Carribbean fries, which were both delicious. The fries were well seasoned and came with a semi-sweet and slightly spicy aioli that was unique and flavorful. The service was fast, friendly and checked in on us regularly to order new drinks and refilled our waters as we were parched from hiking. It's a great spot to try and an awesome addition to Boulder!

Yelp
Love the staff! Daniel and his colleagues at the bar make excellent cocktails and are always happy to talk about their craft. The waitstaff is always great as well. We love their burgers and salads. The ambience is great and the place attracts a diverse crowd. Wednesday night is jazz night when you can go listen to the amazing Sonia Walker on trumpet along with her crew of very talented musicians. The best horn playing that you'll hear west of NYC.

Toby S.

Yelp
Amazing classic tiki drinks and great jazz on a a Wednesday evening! Our favorites are the jungle bird and the Saturn. Didn't really explore the run menu but it's is extensive.

Yelp
We fell upon this place after looking for a fun dinner spot. The food was not too shabby but they really shined with their cocktails! A lot of great variety and tasty options. We also had great service & the ambiance was light & relaxed.

Yelp
Awesome experience again! Went during happy hour time on a Thursday and it was amazing! For the first time it wasn't crowded and loud like times when you go on a Friday or weekend night. Awesome ambiance and even better service! We tried the food for the first time and I was blown away! The jungle burger is amazing! I loved it! The burger meat was juicy and flavorful. The toppings are also awesome! I love the onion ring. I wish the pineapple was in a ring instead of chunks because they kept falling out but besides that the burger was perfect. The Caribbean fries were awesome! So crispy and we're perfectly seasoned. I also enjoyed the new drink menu and had the spill the tea! The flavors were really well balanced and if you like more floral sweeter drinks you'll like this one. I love the decor and especially the cute cups. We will be back for jingle in December!

Alix J.

Yelp
Great intimate spot that has made it through COVID. The atmosphere is fun and chic, lgbtq ‍ friendly and might be the only tropical themed restaurant in town. The drinks and food are a bit pricey, but worth it! The gf options have improved
google avatar

Yelp
Atmosphere, cocktails, and food were all fantastic. The drinks come in fun glasses and are strong and delicious. They have a big rum selection. We had the plantain fritters which were so good. Dense but also light somehow, and the sauce was great. We split a cubano which we both enjoyed. The bread was just okay but the meat and sauce slapped. The whole place was fairly intimate lighting with fun tiki decorations that did not feel kitschy. Our server was nice and helped us pick a rum to try from the rum list. Cannot wait to go back next time we are in boulder.

Yelp
I had a great experience here with friends! The inside is very cute and they also have a lit patio area for outdoor seating. The cocktail menu is large and there are a lot of options. I was excited to see that they have Seedlip nonalcoholic spirit for those that still want a cocktail without the alcohol. I ordered the I'll Show Chu Mine which was a Mai Tai with Soju. It came in a super cute ramen mug with a fortune cookie topper. All the food was great too! I ordered a chicken sandwich and my partner got a jungle burger which came with pineapple. Everything was super delicious! They offer a gluten free sandwich buns and impossible patties for vegetarian/vegan burgers. I love that like this place has options for those not drinking as well as food options for folks with dietary restrictions. The atmosphere is just so cute and I love the tiki concept. 10/10, I'll be back!

Kate H.

Yelp
Jungle mojito was incredibly refreshing. The drink had a great balance of lime and sweetness,. One downside was the absence of mint leaves. While they often get stuck in my teeth, their fresh aroma and flavor were missed in this drink.

Yelp
This is a great place to stop in while walking around downtown Boulder. It has the tiki vibe going on (hence the name) and the drinks we ordered were delicious accompanied by the cute glasses they were in. We only stayed for a bit, but I would definitely visit this place again if I were in the area.

Uyen N.

Yelp
Awesome little tiki bar with great food! The drinks were all great and definitely want to go back and try some more of their concoctions. Super friendly wait staff and we went early enough that it wasn't too weird having our one-year old with us (although it's loud with dim lighting, so keep that in mind if you're bringing a kid). Fun glasses and tasty drinks, I don't think you can go wrong with anything on their menu.
google avatar

Lesley W.

Yelp
Love this place -- a new favorite! Cocktails were really fun, and the food was great! They had plenty of great options for gluten and dairy free food. And the servers gave very helpful recommendations. Already can't wait to go back!

Yelp
The skinny: The best unique and laidback tiki bar I've found in Colorado. Come here for amazingly delicious and fun drinks - paired with surprisingly yummy food. Drinks: A-Maze-Ing. Tiki drinks, fun glasses, deliciously created cocktails. There's a fun specialty menu that shows a little visual of what the drink & glass will look like - each one is unique - I'd recommend ordering off that list! We got a few things - reverse mermaid, welcome to the jungle, juego de fuego, and au revoir felisha. Every drink was delicious and well mixed. My favorite was the juego if you want something with a little kick - and reverse mermaid if you want a yummy cocktail in a fun glass. These are some of the best tiki cocktails I've had in Colorado - and the vibe is nice and laid back. Would highly recommend! Food: We only had a side of curried french fries but that was enough to get our mouth watering. Delicious ! Definitely want to come back for some more food. Atmosphere/service: Came here on a Tuesday night and was met with a relaxed crowd. There's outdoor seating but the vibes inside have a jungle feel with cool decor so I'd sit inside or at the bar if you can! Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Service was super quick! Price: $$ Typical cocktail prices - everything is about 13 bucks a drink. Honestly surprised it wasn't more expensive. Definitely worth it. Would I come back? YES and can't wait to. I'd suspect this place gets packed on weekend but it would be worth the wait. The cocktail menu is so yummy and fun I can't wait to try out the rest - this time paired with a meal!

Yelp
I cannot say enough good things about Jungle! We wanted a fun environment to enjoy an after work dinner on a warm day, and Jungle delivered. The new menus are super fun visually, the staff was extremely friendly and chill, and the happy hour was both a great value and delicious. We both had beyond burgers and fries. I also just love that Jungle has a distinct and fun vibe. The theme of the restaurant makes you smile and want to go back, which I feel is too rare in Boulder, where there are too many generic New American restaurants imo. One thought as a vegetarian, maybe look into Meati protein for burgers instead. They are local and apparently healthier. Oh, I also loved the fresh coconut option as someone who doesn't drink alcohol!

Yelp
We came here and were seated right next to a table of 2 women and 1 man. The girls were annoyingly loud the entire time that even my wife and I could not hear each other. The only thing we liked were the drinks. We each had a painkiller. My wife said her shrimp was bland and I had tenders and fries which were separate. The fries were great. The tenders not so much it doesn't specify on the menu about it being white and dark meat tenders. I just don't like the taste of the dark meat. I never have. Our server was kind enough to take it off after my wife said something. I was embarrassed. I even asked if it should've tasted how it did and the waitress said she doesn't eat meat. I would come back yes but only for drinks and only when it's less crowded cause this place is not big at all. I hated that we were sat at the same table with such obnoxious people. other thing too is they add an additional charge at the bottom because they don't pay their staff enough so we have to make that up.
google avatar

Bruce F.

Yelp
I hope the pina coladas are this good in Mexico next month! I've been here twice for happy hour. What's not to love about cheap drinks and delicious burgers. Festive glasses, great service and a large outdoor patio make it easy to keep Jungle in the rotation.
google avatar

Benjamin B.

Yelp
Great chicken, nice service and good bar style ambiance. Can be a little loud. Ge the fries, they're great!
google avatar

Emily M.

Yelp
Cute, cute little restaurant! Very small so limited seating. Very good food. Had the Jamaican patty and plantain fritters. Loved their variety of sauces. Lots of flavor. My drink came lot on fire. Great presentation.
google avatar

Morolake T.

Yelp
All the changes they made are absolutely welcome. Most of the fun seating is gone, but they made the right changes to the menu. I remember being confused why the Jamaican Beef Patty was called Jamaican. Now they have actual JAMAICAN spicy beef patty's and they're so good. The French fries with Caribbean seasoning and plantain fritters are excellent as well. Chris and the crew are crushing it with these spicy mayo and cilantro dipping sauces and the upgrade on this menu. The drinks are exactly what you want --delicious and boozy, and they extra tasty when Daniel is bartending. The people who work here are the absolute best. Highly recommend this spot!
google avatar

Silena G.

Yelp
This place has the nearest atmosphere. The drinks are so cute and delicious. The servers are so nice and helpful. This was our second time here and we will definitely be back.
google avatar

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
I've returned several times and still impressed with the friendly swift service and delicious (and affordable) food. Best burger I've had in a long time. The mojitos are amazing!
google avatar

Lisa Y.

Yelp
The atmosphere here was so nice. We came here for some drinks and a small bite to eat and was the perfect place for that. They made such fun drinks in fun glasses. My friend ordered this flaming penguin drink which actually was lit on fire. I ordered this fruity drink in a shell glass, very tasty. And I got a side of pork belly tacos which were absolutely delicious and very flavorful. The place was decorated very nicely and tiki themed, very instagrammable!

Blake B.

Yelp
The food was amazing. Maddie is a legend and provided the best service. The cutest ambiance and nicest staff. Drinks were also fantastic. Best bar in Boulder, hands down
google avatar

Jodi B.

Yelp
Only go for the expensive drinks not for food. Food was over cooked and bland. The curry ranch however was a new experience. Not bad.
google avatar

Annie P.

Yelp
I'm a sucker for drinks that come lit on fire in cool glasses and Jungle doesn't disappoint. Beware - the Dunderstruck really does "punch you in the face". That isn't false advertising. The Spill the Tea also goes down far, far too easily. The bar food is also great with great staff. Fun place.
google avatar

Dani C.

Yelp
This place is pretty cool...we stumbled upon it after a night of good-old Pearl street bar hopping, because for one it opens LATE. It must have been something past 11:30pm and the kitchen was still fully active. The food was really tasty, and reasonably priced. But the absolute best thing here were the drinks. Unique and fun and totally WILD, the Jungle puts its name and reputation into every cocktail they craft. I sat near the bar and was so entertained watching the bartenders make all of the elaborate drinks customers ordered. It seemed like each required it's own twist and "wow" factor. It went so well with the neon-dark NYC ambiance, and definitely gave us all something to remember.
google avatar

Sasha B.

Yelp
Finally made it in for some happy hour fun with friends. While we were a little sad to miss out on the plush community seating we were happy to be seated at a table immediately. Our drinks were beautiful and delicious though slightly smaller than what I've experienced at other tiki bars. I had the High Off the Indo, my gal pal had a pungent Pina Colada, and my guy pal had an Iron Ranger. The High Off the Indo sure was a unique flavor experience though I was a bit sad that after a couple of sips I was left with a lot of ice. I'll definitely try another cocktail the next go round. The curried yam fries were out of this world amazing. Cooked to perfection with each bite being more delightful than the last. We had two orders of them which says a lot because I generally avoid yams/sweet potatoes no matter how they are prepared. The jerk chicken was flavorful and moist while the coconut rice was a bit lacking in the flavor department. The music was loud as were the voices of fellow patrons making it very difficult for my friends and I to hear each other. While the small metal tables and chairs were certainly cute, they were not so comfortable leading us to move on to another establishment for the next round of drinks. I'll definitely be back for happy hour. After all who doesn't enjoy a beautifully presented drink in an Instagram worthy piece of art.
google avatar

Chris A.

Yelp
The sound of the stand up base and keyboards brought me in and the great food/friendly and knowledgeable staff will bring me back. Full of happy, fun people of all ages, sitting inside and out. Be sure and ask for Julie---she helped me make great food and drink choices
google avatar

Kaitlin M.

Yelp
If you're looking for a super fun place, great food, amazing drinks, and stellar service this is it. We had about 8 of their cocktails and all of them were amazing. Had a great conversation with the owner and he even recommended other bars to go to in the area. Burgers and fries are solid choices. I will 100% come back here.
google avatar

Jackie K.

Yelp
Went here for the first time yesterday and loved it! They have plenty of outdoor seating and everything is spaced out nicely. Staff wears masks at all times too. The staff here is extremely friendly and very attentive! We only ordered the Caribbean fries for food (super delicious!) and got a few drinks: Rock Out with Your Conch Out (highly recommend this one) Juego de Fuego (this one too! comes out on fire, who doesn't love that?) salty dog (still good, just not as amazing as the others) We'll definitely be back to try their food and more of their drinks!
google avatar

Sydney S.

Yelp
Best cocktails in boulder! amazing service too !! I got the painkiller $40 and the strawberry daiquiri.
google avatar

Maha A.

Yelp
A bit over priced and the vibe versus the cuisines don't seem to match... owners can do a little more research on being culturally accurate but the ambiance is nice and drinks are fun and aesthetically presented!
google avatar

Allison C.

Yelp
Cute little bar with a tropical theme. Got the happy hour special burger and fries. The burger was great, the bun was toasted with a crispy patty and cheese. Overall satisfying and a good deal. Not sure how their cocktails are, but they had a nice variety and creative concepts.
google avatar

Nova S.

Yelp
Sooo good, literally the best piña colada I've ever had in my entire life. I have been craving them since I last went! The food was so good too! Overall just a very fun place, and a fun atmosphere!
google avatar

Cameron R.

Yelp
Both the classics and rotating selection of tiki drinks are fantastic (in taste and presentation!) Sometimes we will get a side of fries or chicken strips which are terrifically spiced. Impressed how quickly drinks come out even when full, and everyone we've encountered from wait staff to bartenders have been delightful. The Jungle is now a regular spot for us, don't miss it if you enjoy a good grog.
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
Fun drinks and surprisingly good food. I had the jerk chicken sandwich and it was excellent.
google avatar

Nino R.

Yelp
Great concept. Who doesn't love tiki? Dining room was full so got sat on their patio, which is an enclosed portion of the street. Will have to come back to try dining room. I'm not a fan of outdoor dining but I'll take what I can get. Loved the ordering system. Everything through the phone. Drinks and food came out quickly. My drink had a flame component to it, I forget the name but it was delightful. Also had the cheeseburger with Caribbean fries and the jungle slaw. All 3 hit the spot. Would def order again. The only hiccup was lack of check backs from staff. Once the food made it to the table we were left on our own. Luckily I had some water in the car. Great menu...
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
We just got drink from here because their wasn't many other places open. My drink was expensive and not that great, specifically because it had coconut juice on it. I am not much of a drinker let alone one to go out to a bar to just drink. So I had to look up the drink to see what it had in it. I really got it because it didn't say anything about coconut ingredient. A total disappointed at a $10 dollar cost, definitely not worth it for me.

Sam C.

Yelp
Food was decent, drinks were , vibes were pretty good, the only thing was they forgot my girlfriends fish tacos after we ordered, but if that hadn't happened it woulda been 5 stars. Definitely come here for happy hour, the drinks and food are a good deal forsure.
google avatar

Alexander B.

Yelp
I love the ambient. It was fairly busy but that's to be expected on a Saturday night. Great beer selection as well
google avatar

Kimberly I.

Yelp
When I heard that the same people behind Arcana opened a new tiki bar, I knew I had to go. This is such a fun place if you are looking for creative and awwww inspiring cocktails. It is pure entertainment. When you walk in you may have to put your name on a list or wait a bit for a table. Every time I have some, this place is packed. It isn't the biggest place and it is ever so popular! I want to come back and try the food, but I can tell you the drinks are top-notch. Every cocktail is served in a fun silly tiki glass, from a big conch to a tiki man. Some of the cocktails they light on fire, some are as big as your head. If you are in Boulder, I highly recommend a visit to this fun spot. You will feel like you are on vacation!
google avatar

Courtney G.

Yelp
I loved the drinks here, I would recommend sitting inside to get quicker service. I honestly wish we would have just stayed here instead of heading somewhere else for dinner. We had the plantains and they were cooked perfectly and an incredible snack. We had 4 different drinks, and I would get all of them again. The zombie wasn't our favorite but ultimately not bad! Service was pretty good even though we were here at the beginning of dinner service. They were setting up for music, and seems like they have a number of fun events!! Excited to come back.
google avatar

Marissa F.

Yelp
I had relatively low expectations as several people told me this place was just 'okay' but upon entering I was pleasantly surprised. There was a nice warm, tiki jungle, tropical vibe. There are cute plants hanging and neon signs to get you in the tropical mind set. But best of all are the themed cocktail glasses that the drinks come in. I ordered "rock out with your conch out" and it came in a conch shell. They also had bird glasses, and a few other tiki types. The drink was good, the service was good. We had a very friendly bartender who showed us all the different cups you could get if you ordered the $80 drink (serves 12 drinks). Overall would go back

Abby S.

Yelp
Hunter is a FANTASTIC host/server, my gf and I came in a couple of weeks ago (it's been that long and I STILL remembered to leave a review because it was THAT GOOD) and he was so fun and professional and personable. Amazing staffing aside, the food is RIDICULOUS??? How on earth do they take a bun, a burger, and cheese, and create genuinely the best burger we've ever had? Simple yet incredibly flavorful. Of course, the drinks are amazing too, so many options, each unique and carefully curated. The jerk chicken sandwhich sent me into my next life, I privately and aggressively praised the cook from my table so he didn't know but lordy. We're coming back for our 2 year anniversary. We're doin other stuff too but most excited to return here. Both of us being from san diego we have unrealistically high standards for restaurant, especially tiki and beach themed ones, but they knock it out of the park. Once again, huge shoutout to hunter for being quick both in his service and his wit. 10/10/10/10, see y'all again in May!!!

Yelp
This is a fun Hawaiian-Jamaican(?!) bar that serves conventional American bar food. Basically you're gonna order a cheeseburger with a pina colada. Drinks are strong, very strong. In some ways this is exactly what you were looking for, and in other ways too much alcohol can obscure the nuances of fruit flavors. Prices are actually very good, and everything is of decent quality. There's only a few outside tables, but they're good, making Jungle a prime choice for a happy hour (before things get too busy). A strawberry daiquiri for $6 at 5pm on the way to a party is a great way to start a bender.
