"Having a meal at Freddy Junior’s is like chewing on a lollipop before a trip to the dentist - there are better ideas out there, but the heart wants what it wants. The burgers and hot dogs here are great in a Five Guys kind of way, and we like that they also sell sliders if you’re not starving. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, but if you’re going to take one piece of advice from us about this place, it’s that you should not get anything to go unless you like soggy food." - Aimee Rizzo

Came in for a simple order of Fried shrimp with tostones. After waiting 15 mins, I come to find out they hadn’t even placed the order and claimed the guy cooking didn’t hear them. Told them not to worry I had to go. Then they begin with the oh no it’s really fast. I wasted time so I figured go ahead. 10 mins later I have my food. $25.00 in Washington Heights for 8 pcs of medium sized shrimp with tostones is absolutely wild. And when I say medium sized shrimp I’m being generous. $5.00 for 1.5 plátanos $20.00 for 8 shrimp. That’s 2.50 per shrimp. The food was avg most certainly nothing to call or write home about. So disappointed.

Fresh seafood served in tight quarters (the width of the takeout restaurant is barely 7 feet width or so). The seafood soup and ceviche was hearty and refreshing respectively.

The food was Delish...we had the rice with shrimp & moro de guandules-fried fish, mero & the fried calamari! Wow, best meal in a while. The ladies were extremely friendly & happy to have us there!

My partner and I recently dined at Junior Seafood and had an amazing experience! The food was incredibly fresh, with seafood that was not frozen, which hard to find. The quality and quantity of the dishes were top-notch. The herring dish was a culinary delight, bursting with exquisite flavors and perfectly prepared. Each bite was a symphony of taste, leaving me craving more. As for the fish soup, it was simply outstanding - rich, flavorful, and comforting. A true masterpiece that warmed both my heart and soul. The prices were also extremely family friendly. Dining at this establishment was a memorable experience that I highly recommend to all seafood aficionados. The atmosphere was inviting, the place was clean, and it truly felt like a hidden gem. It's a small spot that transports you back to the islands, with an amazing staff to top it off. Highly recommended for a cozy and welcoming dining experience!

Guys, please don't order your food for delivery. They will come like over 1 hr after. And then also, people in the restaurant doesn't speak English. Calling the restaurant is like u are speaking in the air.

Yelp
I walked passed this place many times on Broadway. This establishment has been here for years and always has great reviews. Today, I decided since it's Friday, not to cook and order take out food from this eatery. I asked if they have octopus salad. She show me a small container and said yes, that it's this one. I looked at the opaque container and asked both persons behind the counter in Spanish it doesn't look like "ensalada de pulpo" (octopus salad). Both said it is. I asked how much and told it's $11.99. OK , so we're still in a pandemic and with the economic inflation problem we're having, I realized price went up for that small container. I ordered 2. I also ordered moro (rice and black beans mixture, culinary known as Moors and Christian rice) and bacalao (vizcaino style that is basically stewed codfish). The octopus salad, rice and codfish cost $37.97. All 3 dishes, are generically Cuban/Basque cuisine that I personally know how to prepare and cook to perfection, regardless if made at a Latin Caribbean eatery whether Dominican, Puerto Rican, Haiti or Cuban restaurant, the basic preparation of ingredients are the same. It can be tweaked but the dish concept is practically the same. When I got home and open the container of octopus salad, noticed it is not octopus, but calamari. Calamari is NOT baby octopus. I tasted it and did not have that ceviche flavor that is known for octopus salad. It was very bland and disappointing. I had to go old school, and add olive oil, white vinegar, fresh lime, oregano, basil, tomatoes, more chopped onion and most importantly, the Goya adobo seasoning to provide that authentic ceviche flavor that is known in octopus salad and noticeably missing. Only thing I didn't have available to add, was cilantro. OK so now I corrected the flavors to the existing calamari to have it taste like an authentic octopus salad. I had to redo the dish because they told me it was octopus salad, when it was not, in flavors nor ingredients. Although I have the ceviche flavors corrected, using calamari does not give it that gastronomic experience I was expecting. The rice and bacalao were passable. As for the "octopus salad", it's very disappointing that the staff would incorrectly identify as such. As for revisiting this place to order food again.... It's a NO from me!!!!

Yelp
The soup was wonderful!!! My only complaint is I asked for asopao de camarones/soupy rice with shrimp but I got just shrimp soup. I will be going back.

Yelp
My bf & I were in the mood for some seafood soup so we decided to place an order with Junior's. We ended up calling before placing our ordering on Ubereats to inquire about the soup sizing. The person who answered was nice & informative. We ended up going with a large Asopao de Marisco. I was really impressed with the size and amount of seafood it included. It came in a 32 Oz container, with a smaller 16 Oz container all for $25. The soup overall was delicious. They were very generous with the seafood servings it had 2 lobster tails, a few small crab legs, clams, calamari, and plenty of shrimp. The only thing I wish was that they were a little more generous with the rice, maybe giving the option to add on a side of rice. On Ubereats they don't have too many side options. Overall I'm adding this place to my takeout roster whenever I'm in the mood for some seafood soup, definitely recommend!

Yelp
Comida excelentemente fresca y buen sabor. Los empleados muy ambles, atentos y carismáticos. Un ambiente alegre y con música.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants in the area. No fluff but super delicious food. I've been ordering for yearsssssss....the chicharrón de pollo, the fish soup, the combos 1000/10

Yelp
Great food. Very tasty. Haven't been disappointed out of the food I ordered like the chofan , ceviche mixto or shrimp .. fillet of salmon with steam vegetables or in garlic sauce. Fried calamari with tostones. This is my normal.

Shianti B.

Yelp
I love their seafood soup here. It has REAL crab and I can identify every sea creature in my meal. Lol. They also are not stingy with giving you the seafood. The salmon steak is also SOOO GOOD. It was cooked well and flavorful. I had that with the seafood paella and some vegetables. Everything was great! They have daily specials and lunch specials. They also serve chicken and beef here. (I just feel this is important because not everyone eats seafood.) They are well worth it because like I said they are not stingy. With that being said somethings are over priced so use your best judgement. This place get packed very fast especially during lunch. Sometimes you do have to shout and grab the serves attention but I dont mind this. This place does have seating but like I said it gets packed. All and all its a good place to get quality and good seafood in the Heights.

Yelp
I love Juniors. Why? Food is pretty much always fresh as it always has customers coming in. It is primarily a seafood restaurant, while I am not big on seafood my friends who have tried it have enjoyed it. I just usually get the grilled chicken breast with onions combo ( either veggies carrots and broccoli) or with mash potatoes. This combo is generally $8-$10 and they give a lot of food. Place is perfect when you come out of one of the local gyms and are trying to get something quick, but healthy. It's very narrow so there isn't much space to sit and eat. Think of it as a "to go" restaurant.

Yelp
Recently started working in the area. Needed lunch quick and walked by. Place looked full and I remember some co workers taking about the place. I eat quite a bit of Spanish food so thought it would be safe. I went in. Most people spoke Spanish which I do not. Waited a bit without being acknowledged (deduction of 1 star). Finally got a beef stew with white rice and fried sweet plaintains. Food was delicious and all for $8. Would go back to try some of the fish.

Karen K.

Yelp
Wow, the Seafood Paella is delicious. I had called in advance to figure out what was the difference between two price differences. One goes for a total of $25, which includes a lot more seafood & hopefully a lot more people can eat out of this dish. The other goes for a total of $13, which includes a good amount of seafood & two people can eat out of this dish. I went with the $13 dish but in reality about three people can eat out of this dish, they serve a great amount. The Seafood Paella is flavorful and moist, I'm aware that paella includes veggies & seafood. I guess the smaller dish doesn't include it all, I missed out on the veggies, & few seafood creatures. But besides that, the dish is very satisfying & filling. I'd like to try the $25 dish just to see if I'm missing out on anything.

Yelp
I have a special place in my heart for Junior's. It was the first place I ate when I moved to the Heights on my inflatable mattress with my clanging, hissing radiator that perpetually interrupted sleep. I scooped fish and rice into my hopeful and apprehensive stomach for sustenance and for that, I am thankful. Despite the fact that nothing is labeled and nothing has a price on it, I still come back to that beautiful window display of tender, marinating whitefish fillets and vegetables. I have found a hair once in my food, but choose to disregard it as an anomaly in the face of deliciousness. Great restaurant with delicious food you should try. Everything is outstanding.

Yelp
Healthy and generous proportions. Ordered the seafood paella and it didn't disappoint.

Catherine T.

Yelp
I always order their ceviche to go and it's amazing. Seafood is always fresh. Ceviche is always freshly made, they use fresh limes and always give you extra. It's not pricy either. The jumbo fried shrimp is also a good choice. Their on grubhub, and they always come before their estimated wait time.

Jorge V.

Yelp
Had a small seafood soup. It had lots of calamari, a few shrimps & a piece of crab. Tasty and rich based!

Jane D.

Yelp
The food was cold but the shrimp salad was very good. I would recommend trying the shrimp salad. The fish I ate was a bit salty so they can try and not be so loose at hand when adding the salt. But overall good food if you are hungry late night they are open.

david l.

Yelp
So far, so late. Over an hour for an order of fried shrimp. I called and they said the guy was new and should be arriving now. That was ten minutes ago.

Yelp
I've walked by this place countless times and never even thought to go in. It's unassuming, looks tiny and I'm a bit scared of seafood in the heights. Yes, I said it and I stand by that comment. I was very surprised when my cousin came over with a huge bag of various dishes and was raving about it. I tried some of the things purchased and that was it. I. Was. Hooked. The shrimp ceviche, while sometimes in need of a more lime, is really good. Even when ordering the small size the amount of shrimp per container is abundant. The shrimp itself are also medium-large and clean. Shrimp pastelito: I'll have another. And another and another. Big, warm, creamy and filled with shrimp. I once ordered chicarron de pollo (boneless) and tostones and the delivery was quick and food equally delicious. Its open 24 hrs which is a curse for someone like me but I'm glad I finally tried it. There is ALWAYS a line so be patient. Have a pastelito while your food is being prepared!

Anna C.

Yelp
The food is excellent! People are very nice as well. Definitely a neighborhood gem. Fish soup was very well seasoned and fresh. Shrimp macaroni salad was creamy and delicious. Also had the streak and was awesome. All around delicious!

Yanping Nora S.

Yelp
I think they're fixing some of the potential issues raised previously. Their food is always served of cycles of piping hotness according to a conversation with one of the chefs (caught him on a Tuesday night near midnight) which is why there might not be prices and labels, it's all up to discretion apparently, rather than schedules. I ate a heaping plate of piping hot food for 8 dollars. I even brought my own bottle of Sichuan pepper straight from my house down my five storey walkup (this stuff is hard to find -- huajiao!!) -- I wanted them to notice on purpose. You got to get noticed by the right people, I guess.

Yelp
I've been looking for a place to get good seafood in the heights and I finally found it. Awesome calamari. Grouper was great too. Can't wait to order again.

Christian T.

Yelp
I normally order chicken breast with white rice and beans and they charge $7.00 but on Saturday and Sunday's they have a guy there that charges $11.00 to $12.00 dollars for the same lunch I buy Monday through Friday but I never paid the ridiculous price for 1 chicken breast with rice and beans so be careful Saturday and Sundays there's a guy there that over charges

Yelp
Went with the chofan (brown rice with mixed seafood) which had had shrimps and calamari and it was to die for literally. At first I was hesitant but the lovely lady let me try it and it was the best decision I made . The portion was also big enough for 2-3 people. And I went with a side of grilled chicken which I had from here before so I know it always 10/10 from here . And all of that food + Quality for $11 You can't beat that tbh

Yelp
Love this place I get an 8 dollar lung enough to last me until well past dinner. Me and a lot of my coworkers done here regularly.

Yelp
SO upset ! i had order shrimps and only gave me 7 pieces of shrimps are you kidding me ?? 20$ worth of only 7 pieces of shrimps, this is ridiculousi love this place i cant belieb how pricey this is !! HORRIBLE !! . TOO MUCH MONEY . They are located in broadway like cmon its not fair ! change those prices please !!!

Ali B.

Yelp
Fairly priced and decent quality seafood. They never have the seafood pastelitos when I order delivery and often times don't have certain items available which is frustrating. The seafood stuffed chicken breast is my usual go to. Delivery can be slow at times.

Yelp
I really like this place. It's inexpensive and I like the food. As the name suggests, they primarily serve seafood. The food is prepared and you just order what you want - this makes it really fast to get a good plate of food. You can either do take out or there is a small counter for dining in. There is a broad selection on their menu, ranging from fried fish, to more healthy options such as steamed fish. The basic dish you get here is a a big plate of rice with perhaps some veggies and then a piece of fish. I usually get the grouper and it's $9 - which is pretty good, I think. They have different options for the rice - my favorite is the seasoned rice, cooked with seafood (pieces of shrimp, squid). One problem I've encountered a couple times is that the staff doesn't speak English. So the first time, I didn't know what to order and I wasn't really able to get any help. But after coming here a few times, I can generally just point at what I want and don't have a problem getting it. Some of the people are actually pretty friendly, such as the older fellow who often provides a complimentary cup of soup. In conclusion, definitely not a bad option for a quick meal that tastes good and is hearty.
