"When you visit a too-cool-for-school city like Portland —you know, one full of hipster artists and musicians who spend their days sipping artisan espresso, brewing craft beer, and going for long bike rides through postcard-worthy terrain—the important thing is to determine where everyone hangs out. Well, stay at the Jupiter Hotel, and you’ll find you’re already there. In 1994, two local creatives took over a classic 1960s motor lodge in the East Burnside neighborhood (that is, just across the river from downtown) and transformed it into a hipster-chic boutique hotel and one of the city’s hottest nightlife venues, with a local brews- and spirits-focused bar and an intimate concert venue with live shows seven nights a week. Rooms are decorated with original murals by local artists, and the lobby doubles as a (very popular) art gallery. Thanks to the old motel layout, all rooms are oriented around two courtyards, and guests often leave their doors open for ventilation. Which is just to say that it should come as no surprise that, not only is the scene at Jupiter a lively one, but parties are welcome, and the atmosphere is festive until the wee hours of the morning. In other words: yes, this is where all the cool kids are."

‘Pig’ Review: Searching for Meaning in Nicolas Cage’s Truffle Flick | Eater

"Depicted in the movie as a now-closed hotel whose subterranean remnants host a covert fight club for restaurant workers, this location provides a gritty, underground tableau where the protagonist submits to a humiliating beating to extract information, underscoring the film’s odd mixture of satire, menace, and implausible plot devices." - Joshua David Stein

Jupiter Hotel (Portland, Oregon) 16 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Though there’s a certain family resemblance between a hotel like the Jupiter and the glossy high-design luxury boutiques you see in the design magazines, the small-market American budget boutique is an altogether different sort of place. The Jupiter, the Thunderbird or the Hotel San Jose in the heart of Texas, the Ace in Seattle: all are visually appealing, stylishly designed, and all are eminently livable; luxury, however, is not a part of the program." - Tablet Hotels

I’ve loved The Next in the past—the brand has a fun, creative energy that fits perfectly with Portland’s personality. But during this stay, we were in the original building AKA the motel, and unfortunately, it didn’t live up to my previous experiences.||||Let’s start with the positives. The staff, as always, were lovely. I only had a brief interaction at check-in, but they were friendly, helpful, and welcoming. That’s been consistent across all three of my stays, and I really appreciate how approachable they are.||||Now, onto the room. The air conditioning was barely functional. It ran constantly but never truly cooled the space, and the noise level was intense. Even with earplugs, it was hard to sleep. The room lacked several basic amenities. There was no full-length mirror, no alarm clock, and no drawers to unpack clothing. I received a few hangers, which didn’t feel like enough for a multi-day stay. Oddly, the room did include a no-brand condom and a piece of chalk to decorate the door—items that felt more like an attempt at quirky than anything practical.||||There’s so much potential here, and I know from past visits how enjoyable a stay can be. I hope this was just a one-off experience, not a new norm for the original building.

Google
Fabulous overnight stay. Loved the location in walking distance to coffee bars and Laurelhurst park for a solid 5 mile loop at sunset. Staff had great recommendations to make the most of the trip. The mural in the room was a pleasant surprise. The 5th floor perch terrace had a spectacular sunset view of the city. So many fun surprises for a more boutique hotel. Note that parking is first come first serve and they were sold out when I got there. There is abundant street parking for free 6 pm - 7 am and the area felt quite safe. Definitely recommend!

We would definitely stay here again! We enjoyed the drive-in style and there’s nice seating areas if you want to have a little gathering or just enjoy beverages. We stayed at the Jupiter and right next-door. Is the Jupiter NEXT. It was very clean. I also enjoyed the chalk door.

The staff is amazing and the rooms are so fun! Beds were very comfortable . Pillows were perfect. Rooms are decorated with fun art. Central location for downtown and Lloyd Center. Staff was friendly v and helpful. The key card gets you lots of bonuses around the neighborhood. Go and check out out.

Super cute, hip hotel with very friendly staff and an EXCELLENT restaurant. The beds were some of the more comfortable ones that I can remember and plenty of pillows. The whole property is pet-friendly! Parking can be annoying but there are free & paid options.

CONS: The Jupiter Hotel was the first hotel I’ve ever stayed at without a mini fridge. We ended up having to throw away some good food because there was no way to keep it cold. I wasn’t expecting a mini bar or anything, but I’ve never been anywhere that didn’t have SOME way to keep your food cold. Speaking of cold, the AC wasn’t even effective. It blew air, and the temperature was up to God himself. There weren’t any drawers to put our clothes in, which I’ve seen in less expensive accommodations. This was essentially a Motel 6 with slightly softer sheets and triple the price. Parking was an extra charge, which wasn’t ideal given the pricing of the room. Don’t waste your time at the original hotel. PROS: Jupiter Next was nice from what I could see, and they had amazing cocktails in the Hey Love bar on the ground floor. The staff were kind and friendly! Checkout was easy! The room was clean and spacious! But no amount of chalkboard doors will make up for the lack of basic amenities in the Original Jupiter rooms.

Google
Great value at price point. Stayed for 5 nights, zero noise problem. You'll won't hear a thing beyond your AC. Mini fridge would been nice addition but it is what it is at price point. Andrew was fabulous throughout the entire duration of the stay. Assisted with checkin, my daily questions, random requests and they were all fulfilled.

I was put off initially because I called to ask if I could get a quiet room and the person who answered told me in a surly voice not to stay there ... plus there are all those reviews saying it is noisy and I was there for work. But people in Portland kept telling me to stay! So I did. I honestly found it to be very quiet and the bed was really comfortable. Plus there is the pretty bar and all those nice restaurants nearby. It took me a day or two to realize I could get breakfast there and also to remember there is a 10% discount at some of the restaurants so maybe that's something they could point out on check-in. I also wish they provided a kettle and a safe but I managed .... Incredibly nice housekeepers and the rooms were super-clean. I also had a great view.

Yelp
Just everything feels cheap inside this room. If it wasn't for the pretty wall paper it would look like the most basic room ever. The staff was actually super nice, and the place is walkable to restaurants, bars and a few coffee shops. There's no gym, AC barely works, no free water or mini fridge. They really need to renovate. I won't be staying here again. It feels like a crappy motel.

Yelp
Modern and quirky all in one. Pros: - Rooms were comfortable and no complaints there. - Clean bathrooms with tubs. - They apparently give you a free condom on your nightstand :P Cons: - Parking is first come first serve even for the ones you buy. By the time we got there, the paid parking was all taken. They said we can park on the street overnight for free as long as move the car before the parking meter maids come. It worked out fine but one of the reasons we chose this place was to get their garage parking for the piece of mind. - There was a huge party happening right outside our room until 10:30. Music blasting and lights flashing. They did turn off the music after quiet hours but if you were trying to hang out in your room peacefully before that, you were out of luck.

Yelp
I just hosted an event at this hotel and I can not say enough good things! The staff are fantastic. We could just stop there because in a city where no one has "staff" this hotel is fully staffed with fantastic people! Housekeeping was awesome, and no one told me because of covid they couldn't straighten my room, which seems to be the way it is in most hotels now. Coffee, water, great decks and little nooks to hang out in. Excellent location! The lobby restaurant, Hey Love, is BEYOND, you may not want to go anywhere else. From the event side their sales team was awesome! Eden, Jake, Josh...all over the top! They checked in on us often and were super flexible with requests. Kind, responsive, and helpful! I live in Portland, and can tell you this is not how most hotels and restaurants are right now. Most are really short staffed, so it is hard to get that personal attention you want to feel when you spend money to travel or eat out. Rooms are clean, have great amenities! Things can get a bit noisy at night-because it is a fun spot for people to hang out in......I brought ear plugs & a melatonin, and didn't hear a thing, but a few of my guests mentioned their floors had it going on late! Loved it and can't wait to go back!

Yelp
I live in Portland and booked this place because I needed a small retreat. Man! I had construction people outside of my room past business hours. No prior warning that work was being done. I couldn't sleep with the noise. It was bad. I went to the lobby to ask why I wasn't warned of this matter. There was no answer. The rooms at the Jupiter are very different from their neighboring Jupiter Next, which is across the street. The rooms at the Jupiter are NO DIFFERENT THAN A MOTEL 6. But Motel 6 had free on site parking. To me that was the only difference. No pool, no hot tub. No mini fridge in the room. Pretty basic. If you come to visit Portland, there are MANY MORE options with better prices. Always expect a fee for onsite parking though. Wherever you go. I also noticed the owners of this place describe it as a 'boutique' hotel. That's just really not the case. There is NOTHING boutique about this place. Maybe I missed it. ‍

Yelp
My fiancé and I really enjoyed our time here. We stayed in the older building which we were a little worried about but it ended up being really nice. We didn't expect much with amenities, all we really cared about was whether we felt safe and it was clean which it was. Our only complaint would be that the walls are thin so you can hear pretty much anything your neighbors or people outside are doing. Shout out to Lina the receptionist, she was so sweet!

Yelp
We stayed at the older side of Jupiter Hotel last night after heading home from Oregon to Washington. I had stayed here once before, but over 15 years ago. I remember thinking it was super cool. Same experience as I had 15+ years ago. It's a really cool place and we will definitely stay here again! The rooms are basic, but super fun and funky. You can see the room wall mural in one of my pics. They give you chalk to write on your front door. I love the room darkening shade!!! I could actually sleep! Probably my favorite thing. The bathroom was nice, although basic, everything worked well and they have shampoo, conditioner, and body wash available. The beds were comfortable, also! There are tons of restaurants and bars to walk to. I wish we had had more time. The staff was also very pleasant. I can't really say anything negative, except I don't know how easy it is to find parking. We lucked out and got a space underground in their parking garage, but there is so much going on around the building, that I'm not totally sure about the rest of the parking situation. When I checked in, they gave me a phone # to text if I had any questions and I did! They wrote me right back. I totally want to give this place 5 stars and for what we needed, it really was, but I often want to stay more than one night and there are no refrigerators or microwaves in the rooms- at least in the older building. That would be all it took for a five-star review. Thanks for an awesome stay!

Yelp
This hotel was very nice and the staff was wonderful. The Jupiter hotel and the Jupiter NEXT are connected but very different. I booked the Jupiter Hotel and was happy but moved to the Jupiter NEXT the second night. Jupiter hotel was super clean but missing some amenities like a mini fridge, mini bar and things like that. It has a basic hotel bathroom and was more of a hipster vibe. It was a little nerve racking staying there as 2 young women because it was open like stairs from the outside which I didn't realize till i got there. The staff did assure us that there was a over night security team that was amazing, we had no problems there at all but still felt safer moving over to the Jupiter NEXT for our other night. The Jupiter NEXT hotel is much more like any other hotel they had the amenities the other place didn't have (mini fridge, mini bar, complementary shower stuff). This room was nice and only a $60 upgrade, the shower was much nice and the room was a little bigger. There was a lot of really cool out door seating and fun little areas at both hotels. Doug Fir was a super cool and chill lounge that was fun, the restaurant Hey Love was okay and convenient but would say skip and go to the surrounding restaurants in the area instead. Like I said above the staff was just amazing they moved our reservation to the Jupiter NEXT over the phone in 5 min. They had a phone number you could text and they would respond almost immediately, this had to be the nicest hotel staff i've ever meet just absolutely AMAZING. Great stay loved this place will definitely be returning to the Jupiter NEXT.

Yelp
JUPITER X hotel -- unremarkable and below average hotel stay and after many years I will not return again -- the front desk staff seemed disconnected, often staring at phones, no smiles or greetings when you come in/out, and generally a feeling of burn-out and just NOT helpful. If you start to complain to the desk you may get a pulse from them as I found out on my last day. - I get that you are a COOL hotel. But being cool is about being fun, unique, personable, and friendly -- not a "too cool for school and not interested in helping you cause I have other better things to do" hotel... - With this hotel opening in 2017-2018, it's pretty clear that even in the nicest rooms they need an update/renovation. - Could not get parking underground. even when requested and confirmed 1 week in advance and given a pass at checkin (it was full for an event and that was my issue to fix) - Cannot provide kettle in room even with multiple requests -- a kettle costs $20 -- I like to brew my own coffee, that's all. - check out was also a bust as they refused to put my minbar items on my invoice and had already charged my card. Only after I complained did they then do right. Summary: (1) Be proactive; give service BEFORE people complain, not because they complain. (2) Smile; as a front desk agent you are an ambassador to both the hotel property and the City of Portland. (3) Care; or at least make it look like you care about the people that pay over 300$ a night to stay under your roof

Sherry L.

Yelp
Great location for Portland's music scene. Up for a show at the Aladdin. Stayed in the past for a show at the Doug fir. Will definitely return.

Yelp
Hotel was decently clean. Unfriendly staff over the phone. No sign stating to not draw on the CHALKBOARD walls which led to a $150 fine (this was the same price as the room was for the night). No one told me at check in that the walls were off limits and they provide and talk about drawing on the door. Manager would not issue a refund even though there was no signage stating the walls were not off limits. There are better options in the area that aren't a scam.

Yelp
I stumbled on this place because I was driving by and needed a hotel. It's walking distance from a couple of cool bars and restaurants and has beautiful rooms. The bar and restaurant downstairs is delicious with beautiful decor. I met a wonderful bartender from California that was so sweet he wrote me a hand written note of all the parks and coffee shops he recommended I checkout during my stay. The next morning, I hung out in the common areas and they were really wonderful to work in throughout the day. The ambiance, decor and staff are all top Notch here. I highly recommend !!

Joan M.

Yelp
Don't stay on the first floor of the Original Jupiter. You can hear everything! You can hear footsteps, dropping of items on the floor and voices. The beds were comfy.
google avatar

Yelp
Stayed here for a wedding across the street. Hotel was under construction to update its decor and my room had already been done. Very inexpensive good parking in an area where that's a big deal and the price was very good compared to others in the area!! Not very fancy but solid for the price point!! I would recommend it and would go back in the future'

Nancy L.

Yelp
Glorified makeover motel lacking in room coffee maker, drinking water, quiet. Walls were paper thin, heard someone's TV left on all night, and couple fighting in another room. Had mustiness, spiders. Room was so small we could hardly work our way around to the other side of the bed. I would never recommend this place. We were charged numerous added fees to the already absurd price per night, (my family paid less at the better hotels downtown). No, no recommendations for this place.

Yelp
5 stars to the hotel itself and the staff! We got the Dream Suite and it was perfect for my husband, toddler, baby and I! It was like a mid-century one bedroom apartment. Only thing I wish it had was a coffee machine, although they do offer coffee from 7AM-11AM at the lounge for guests in the same parking lot. Loved that they have the minibar STOCKED! We came during the snowstorm (didn't realize it would be like that when we booked) so everything was closed. Thankfully they did have water, wine, beer, seltzer, mixed nuts, candy, and more to munch on. I also loved that they had a pack and play for my infant to sleep in so that was perfect! I was in town for a wedding and I got a chance to see the new rooms at Jupiter Next right across the street. The Next is obviously going to be a newer hotel so there's a difference for sure but I liked that our room wasn't in a busy hallway and was tucked away.

Jennfier N.

Yelp
No stars if that was an option. Worst hotel that I've ever stayed at. There was "seaman" (lol) all over the walls, we took a black light with us. Customer service was terrible... there actually wasn't any! Construction going on and no notification about it. I would never stay there again. The lack of communication, customer service and the fact that they ripped us off by not refunding our money when we left leaves this dump at the bottom of all lists for us. Save yourself the money, time and headache and stay somewhere else!!!!

Yelp
Affordable and hip, this clean and centrally-located hotel is fun and a welcome respite from our camping-road trip. I was warned that the party below might keep me up til the wee hours of the morning but it didnt. The front desk staff are very accommodating and are super friendly. You might miss these guys though coz they have check-in-by-text as well as check-out. Street parking is an exercise in logic and problem solving, if you're into that type of thing. It's great to see this part of Oregon. Very fun!

Tim T.

Yelp
Terrible the motel portion of this place was a terrible value. It's almost as if they pride themselves on not offering basic amenities. No parking in front of room, you can park in a lot accross the street for and additional fee. They allow pets but are not pet friendly by any means, we had to walk to a park each time our dog needed to go 2 . Room smelled like poo

Maria C.

Yelp
This hotel was more like a motel. The tv had five working channels, the showers were cold, and the front desk staff were less than accommodating. The hotel was also not accessible for people with disabilities. Also, there no blackout curtains or breakfast (considering they charged $100 a night on a weekday!) Strongly do not recommend!

Yelp
My husband and I chose this hotel based on its location and price. So glad we did! We stayed in Jupiter NEXT with a view of the city and paid extra to get an earlier check in. Hotel is within walking distance to all sorts of eateries. There is garage parking available for a charge but we opted to park on the street of which there is ample parking available. Our room was 605 and offered a great city view! So glad I chose that type of room. Room was super clean and minimal. The sink is located in the hotel room as opposed to where the toilet and shower is. I enjoyed that feature so I could get ready while my husband showered. But the bathroom door was one of those sliding doors that don't allow for complete privacy. I will say there is very little storage space so if you are staying more than just a couple days, it may be cramped for you and your belongings. Hotel is very cool and hip, I've never stayed anywhere that had CBD offered as part of their "mini bar"! Also I will say the prices they charge for the snacks and drinks in the room are very reasonable! Most hotels up charge a crazy amount so this was refreshing to see. Overall a great stay and I would absolutely stay here again. Last note...I noticed a charge of $25 on my credit card and I called the front desk to inquire where it came from. The gentleman I spoke with (I wish I remembered his name!) Explained it was for a charger that housekeeping stated was missing from the room but I told him I never used the charger and he was quick to remove the charge from my bill, no questions asked. The point of this story? The staff is awesome and will do what they can to ensure you have a great stay.

Yelp
This hotel was a true gem find for our Portland trip, I had called maybe three weeks in advance and they were doing a buy two nights get an additional night free deal. Andrew, one of the workers there was extremely accommodating and answered all my questions. As soon as we arrived we were immediately greeted by Andrew (hi and thanks if you're reading this!) and he made sure we had everything we needed. This hotel is clean, low key, offers free coffee in the morning with oat milk (!) and the staff was always friendly greeting us coming in and out. Parking is not an issue and we were able to find street parking on all four days of our stay. Offers a beautiful view of the city also which is always a plus. Not directly downtown but if you have a car it is easy access and central to everything you would want to visit (food, bars, boba). Would recommend anyone visiting Portland to check this hotel out!

Yelp
Nice rooms, friendly staff, and a convenient location with lots of great coffee spots and restaurants nearby. Stayed at Jupiter Next for four nights with a large group (PHB Retreat) and they did a great job taking care of us. The chalkboard doors are a fun touch!

Yelp
We stayed at the Jupiter on the recommendation of friends for 4 nights. When we drove up on Burnside, it was somewhat confusing because the valet was on the next block at the bustling Jupiter NEXT hotel, but when we checked in, the valet was able to park our car outside our room so that we could unload our luggage. I can understand why they won't let people park their own cars as the driveway is extremely narrow with only a few spots. We only used the valet for 2 weekday nights because street parking is free on the weekends and not too hard to find if you read the rules on the signs. The office at he Jupiter is not staffed at night, so you have to go across the street to the NEXT if you need anything or check-in/out at an odd hour. As you can tell, the rooms are arranged like a 2 floor motor inn with rooms opening to the outside along the central driveway. There is no elevator, so we opted for the ground floor. Luckily, we did not have the noisy nightclub experience as others did because we had the room furthest in the corner. I don't like the door opening to the outside because every time the door opens, all the leaves from the bamboo annoyingly blow into the room. Upon entering, we were greeted by the giant Marilyn Monroe head on the back wall, which we got used to and ignored. The room is lacking in many amenities we're used to having at other hotels. There is no dresser or closet to store clothes except for a steel wall rack in the corner, a few hangers and 2 small wall mounted drawers. One of the mounting screws on the rack had come off and I was afraid it was going to come down, but fortunately it didn't. Other non-utility amenities: Jupiter branded condoms and chalk to write on the walls. One morning I walked by another room where someone had scrawled in chalk, "Rick is HOT!" on the blackboard door. A gym, a pool and breakfast in the morning would have served me way better, but is not happening here. Luckily there is a coffee shop across the street. No in-room refrigerator, microwave or coffee maker are offered. There is a wall mounted flat screen TV which we made good use of though. Lighting in the room is very poor and was very dark most of the time. I didn't want to open the shades because the large window faces the street. On the plus side, the beds are comfortable and water pressure in the shower is almost fire hose level. The style of the Jupiter is definitely not for us or geared towards a family experience. If you're looking for a place to party and crash, get up at noon with a hangover, this hotel is for you. Looking back, I would have been a lot happier if we stayed at the Embassy Suites across the river and enjoyed a nice hot breakfast instead of having Marilyn staring at me all night.

Yelp
Quirky, fun, hip, and unique hotel with good proximity to downtown Portland without the downtown price tag. Though, not recommended for the business travelers. We chose the Jupiter simply because it was the closest thing to downtown Portland that fell within my company's travel spend policy. Checking out the reviews, I thought I found a diamond in the rough. WelI, I wasn't wrong on the value. The Jupiter is definitely affordable, clean, and should come with a couple call-outs before you stay here. Adjacent to the Doug Fir Lounge, many rooms will echo with the din of socializing patrons on the outdoor patio. If you aren't keen to ambient noise, be sure to ask for a room that's further away from the venue. On the plus side, the patio and bar is a nice place to meet up with a few friends and you can join right in with the sound. The doors are literally chalkboards and the rooms themselves are have enough space for a bed, small table, and bathroom. There really isn't much margin in between any of those, so it feels like you're staying in a living room with a bed. Truly not bad if you're just looking for a place to sleep. I wasn't a fan of the loud AC unit, though it did somewhat drown out the sounds from outside. I would be remiss to not mention the branded condom on the bedside table. I'm used to seeing a Gideon bible, so this was a first! Again, this place is quirky and fun. I would have probably liked it better if I was traveling for pleasure, with my wife, and/or some friends. Due to my need to remain sober and be up early for meetings, it was downer to not be able to take full advantage of this hotel. Bottom line: The Jupiter Hotel is not a bad place to stay if you know what it is. Read through several reviews and decide if it's going to fit your travel expectations. The customer service was great and the management seems very willing to ensure you have a pleasant visit.

Yelp
Overpriced room and lounge, and to top it all off a rude and incompetent staff. Wouldn't go back again if it was free 99. This place and the rest of Portland can stay weird and I will stay away!

Yelp
The website presents this place as much nicer than it actually is. I'll preface my review with the fact that I booked my stay with points through American Express. So I didn't pay for the room and didn't book directly with the hotel. I'm betting that when this place first opened it was a fun hipster-y kind of motel with a new spin on things. But now it seems that the maintenance hasn't kept up with time and the rooms have seen better days. My guess is that the ownership was taking as much of the profits from this place as possible in order to build Jupiter Next across the street. After lunch on arrival day we came to check-in. The guy behind the desk was great. He got me all set up in no time. He gave me the choice of a main floor or second floor room and gave me a quick run down of the place. My friend and I didn't have time to actually go to the room as we had somewhere else to be so we came back later to get settled in. When we got back around dinner time we went to the room. Turns out that they gave us a single bed room instead of a two bed unit. When I went back to the front desk a different person was working. I explained the issue to which the employee then proceeded to blame me. I explained that I didn't actually book the room myself and used points. It didn't matter. For some reason she felt that I needed a lecture. She told me how I used some concierge website I had never heard of to book the room and how the hotel's terminology on what a double room means doesn't mean a two bed unit, but two people staying in a room. She also told me that it would be an additional $5 a night to get the room I wanted and made that seem like it was going to be a huge deal. After a few minutes of being made to feel like an idiot, I got moved to the room I needed. We ended up in the "Spiderman" room you see on the website. Seems like a fun theme, but unfortunately the room is starting to show it's age. The Spiderman wall paper is starting to peel. The blinds are tattered, weren't the right size to begin with, and are installed backward (I install blinds for a living). The bathroom was fine, but the drain in the shower was a little slow. The floor is hard. They've obviously just put down commercial carpet tile to the concrete floor. There is no parking on site like there normally is at a motel. In their remodel they've put in a bar and event space which has taken up all of the areas where parking should be. The few remaining spots seem to now be reserved for valet usage at Jupiter Next across the street, which you are allowed to use. At check-in they also warned us not to park around the corner. I didn't ask why. Upon check-out the first guy I dealt with was working again. He seemed surprised when he brought up my account that there were additional charges for a room "upgrade". I explained the situation of what happened a few nights before and he waived the additional charges without question. He said it looked like the booking person for Amex (or their agent) made a mistake and I shouldn't have had to pay for someone else's mistake. This was the customer service I needed on the Friday night when I first found myself in the wrong room.

Yelp
Fantastic space. Staff at checkin was awesome (wish I could remember his name, but I do remember he frequently did Spartan races and was going to do one in Snohomish, maybe that narrows it down). He was extremely personable, funny,, and helpful - helped us figure out where to eat and general area info). Loved being next to the Doug Fir Lounge, we were there to see Michael Ian Black who should definitely be invited back. loved the ambience, room, and location. We stayed in a 'chill side' room and slept amazing. The only reason I rated the courtyard atmosphere as satisfactory is because it wasn't really set up when we were there (though the outdoor space at the Doug Fir was fantastic.)

Yelp
Loved this place! Great front desk staff- super friendly, clean and great location for exploring.

Yelp
I mean, for the price point you can't ask for more. My room was "fine". The location was "great". I could walk to a restaurant with a full bar. I parked on the street. This is probably a 4-star hotel but I noticed their "stars" were a little lower than I thought they deserved for a $100 room. So, I'll bump them up with the full teller of stars and would definitely stay here again if this was my intended price point (aka "cheap").

Yelp
We stayed on a Wednesday and Thursday night, two beds in our room and we chose to stay on the "chill side". The room was adorable decorated, everything was very clean and fresh. The front desk guest service was spectacular as well! I wish our room had had a microwave and refrigerator but those are only minor details. It was close to public transportation, delicious food, tons of breweries, and honestly anything you needed. If I'm in Portland again I would absolutely come back!

Yelp
So the hotel room itself was pretty basic and small but it was very clean. What really stands out about this place to me was the outstanding customer service. You have to valet park unless you want to try and find street parking. We found the fee ($29 I think?) to be fair because the car was safe overnight and we had help with our luggage from a super nice staff member. We were in town for a concert and ended up drinking far too much. So, we called to request a late check out at about 10 am and they were extremely accommodating. We paid a little extra (again - money well spent) and got to leave at 2 pm. The heavy drinking also came along with some injuries including a black eye and a broken foot. Staff came to our rescue and brought our car up to the room, helped us load our luggage and even got us bags of ice to put on the swollen foot. They didn't even make us show our poor faces in the lobby to check out. It honestly felt like they cared about our hungover plight and for that reason alone I'd come back to this hotel. Thanks guys!

Yelp
I used to be a big fan of Jupiter Hotel. Most recent stay in Jan 2023 was loud and no hot water. Disappointed.

Yelp
Thank you Jupiter hotel for accommodating us four for our annual friend's trip. Although I know you were previously a Motel 6, you were good for what it was worth. And for that, I can't complain. We opted for the double "chill" side of the room which was the rooms away from the Doug Fir Lounge. Doug Fir Lounge gets pretty noisy especially in the late evenings which could possibly interfere with your sleep if you decide to stay on the "bar" side. The room itself was ookay. The bed was fine, but the pillows were a no-no. They were flat and stacking them didn't really help. Even with adequate sleep, I could feel the quality lacked. In addition, the room was way too hot so we had no choice but to turn on the air conditioning. The placement of the system was poor as it directly faced the beds. In addition, it was SUPER loud. Enough. How about the positives? + Two free condoms provided + The bathroom was pretty decent + Very close by to the night life + Chalk board room Jupiter is a very hipster place. Stay here if you're into that.

Yelp
Nice spacious rooms and wonderful at events/event planning and catering. They accommodated an extremely large number of us during a conference week and did it all so seamlessly. Will 100% be back our next time through!

Yelp
Ok where to begin. We just stayed two nights at the Jupiter (Sunday - Tuesday) and basically fell in love with it. Every single person we encountered at the hotel were epic. To me a person who can hold a conversation. Get to know us, guide us, and take a short interest in why we arrived in Portland in a short amount of time is a stellar employee of the company. Each individual we encountered did just that. The hotel room itself is pretty basic. Tv, AC, bed, table, and standard bathroom. The water pressure was nice. The bed was super comfy. Albeit it's low to the ground, but insanely comfy. For a small space there was a lot of outlets to plug stuff in which was cool. You can draw funky pictures on your door with chalk which was a fun drunk thing Ive never done before. The location is EVERYTHING. You're in the burnside district which is home to a crap ton of Portland's finest. The Douglas Fir is directly next door. Happy hour at 3. And live music. All the bartenders are pretty rad. You have an amazing breakfast/ brunch place open 8am daily called Canard literally right on the other side of the hotel. SO GOOD. It's older brother of a restaurant is right next door to that called Le Pigeon. James beard winner. Amazing food. Casual fine dining , and totally worth it. Sizzle pie, distilleries, breweries, bars, literally so many places in walking distance. you can cross the burnside bridge In 20 minutes and be directly at the Saturday market location, voodoo donuts, or just be downtown. The Moda center took us 25 minutes to walk to, 10 minute scooter ride home. All in all this hotel was really a great find. The hotel/ motel/ bar Jupiter and Douglas fir have history being built in the 1960 and it was cool staying in a place that has a story. It's not cookie cutter and it's got character. I can't remember names of employees minus Chris at the front lobby, but I highly recommend anyone who needs a place to crash in Portland to give this place a try. Thanks y'all. See you again.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I and a friend of ours had one night in Portland and we flew from Arizona. The Jupiter hotel was our pick for three main reasons; 1. The Doug Fir lounge 2. Location 3. The 420 package So in the reservation it was specified that there would be 3 guests, when we arrived in the room there was one queen size bed and futon. We went to the front desk because we were positive they'd made a mistake and put us in the wrong room, nope not the case. They gave us sheets and a pillow for our third guest and considered it handled. The rooms themselves at first glance are artsy, and well laid out. However, the windows do not open and our bathroom door didn't latch. The room was extremely humid no matter what we did. There is no fridge, no microwave, and no counter space whatsoever except for a small desk. The Doug Fir lounge was packed but we did go on a Saturday night so, expected. Amazing ambience and if you book a room next to the lounge you can literally walk off your balcony up to the bar. Location of the hotel itself was prime! The 420 package is an absolute scam. They give you 5-7 coupons for dispensaries, a vape pen battery, candy like the kind you get at Halloween, a glass one hitter and a lighter with stickers in a soft pouch, and magazines that have nothing to do with marijuana. Solid 2/5 because after everything was said and done they gouged us with a $380 bill for one night. The room online says it's $180-$215. Never returning unfortunately.

Yelp
I was very excited to stay here. It always looked like it had great style in all the photos I saw online. Unfortunately that was not the case. Christopher was very rude ( I tried to ignore the rudeness and kill'em with kindness ) We checked our bags because our room wasn't ready ( no problem ). When we came back to check in he refused to help us and told the other person working to do it ( not starting off well, I hope that he was just having a bad day ). Onto the room; the AC is right next to the door blowing hot exhaust on you as you go in ( not great ). The "mural" was not well done and scuffed up like crazy ( felt a bit trashy ), the shower! I won't even go into it ( literally and psychically. I won't keep going, you get the idea.

Yelp
It is perhaps most important to note that this is NOT the hotel to enlist if you are a couple visiting Portland for the weekend. Though upbeat and trendy, the Doug Fir bar and patio attract huge crowds which rage on late into the night. The Jupiter Hotel is however, phenomenal for bachelorette or bachelor parties. Key takeaways: -Customer service is a breeze, rooms are clean and nice. Condoms are provided. (cool?) -It's located directly next to a bar and a restaurant which is pretty good. So it's great for end of night shinanagins. -Great location. There's a coffee shop a block away, basecamp brewery right down the street as well. All in all, a great crash pad that will please large parties if you're out of the hotel 95% of your trip. However, it's not relaxing or endearing enough if I were to bring my fiance back for a visit.

Yelp
I've never complained on yelp or any other social media platform in my life, and I've worked in the service industry for over 10 years and I've never been so utterly disrespected at any establishment in my life. Whole staff had the worst attitude that I have ever seen. Rude at the door, host, servers and bar. I'm honestly in utter shock how horrible my experience was at Jupiter hotel. If you are looking for a place to stay, I would highly advise any other place than this. I've lived in Portland for 18+ years, and this is absolutely not what it represents. If you want a real Portland experience, please stay at any other place in town but this one. This is not what I believe Portland or the the whole state is to be. From the bottom of my heart, stay anywhere but here. It's cheap for a reason. If I could give 0 stars I would. Thank you for reading.

Yelp
Let's just say I was prepared not to like this place. I read all the reviews on here and was frankly scared I wouldn't get any sleep the night we spent here. The YS and went to a concert at the Doug Fir and he was thinking it would get out late and we wouldn't want to drive home. Plus, he wanted to have a few drinks while watching the the show and we all know driving drunk is not cool or Yelp Elite behavior. :) He made arrangements to stay at the Jupiter and requested a quieter room as it's mentioned on their site. He got a deal on the room because he reserved it in advance and paid in advance. We got their early as we know the garage does not have enough space for all the rooms. So, first come first serve. Eight dollars a night to park is cheap in Portland, downtown hotels are normally upwards of $20 a night. I was a little worried when I saw our room was right on the corner directly across from the dining room of the Doug Fir. I thought how quiet can that be? So, all of the above said we went to the concert on Friday night and had a great time. Then we walked across the parking lot and went upstairs. I immediately fell asleep but the YS wanted to play some music on his Ipod and they had speakers in the room set up just for that. So, he was doing that last I knew. When I woke up around 4AM (I had went to bed around midnight) there was music blaring and I thought, they weren't kidding this place is noisy. Then I realized he had fallen asleep and the Ipod was still playing. So, it was noisy but only because of the YS. Haha. Luckily we were on the end so I don't think anyone else heard. The walls are thin but it wasn't bad I didn't think. We brought our own wine as we didn't want to be tempted to drink the $20 bottles in the room. They had bottles of Voss water available for purchase in the room. They were in glass bottles which was nice. They had current Portland Monthly and Dwell magazines so I helped myself to those. The bath products were nice too. I took the leftovers with us. I would definitely use this as an after hours location for concert goers. Quick, easy and comfortable.

Yelp
If you enjoy using the night time for sleeping this is not the hotel for you. It's ridiculously loud. The rooms aren't "hourly motel dirty" but they're pretty gross.

Yelp
I stayed here for 1 night on a business trip. My first time staying somewhere and traveling alone, I had to make it memorable! Instead of booking a convention center type inn, I opted for the Jupiter hotel because it was quirky and less than 10 minutes from the business I was visiting. When booking, I knew what I was getting myself into. Reviews stated that it would be loud due to a neighboring bar and due to thin walls. I stayed in the room directly above this bar and had no issues sleeping! That being said, I am someone who LOVE white/ambient noise. The hotel staff was not rude like some reviews suggest, which may mean that they've made adjustments which is fine by me since I had no issue with the two people assisting me in the lobby while I checked in. I found their service to be very helpful and their explanations to be thorough. Thanks, Jupiter Hotel for a great first time stay as a solo traveler! Staying here made a scary thing so much less intimidating. Will be back every time I have a business trip in the area!

Yelp
I will not be staying here again and I won't be recommending it. I booked a room at the Original building, then 2 weeks before my stay I called to upgrade to the Next building. When I checked in, they had lost my upgraded reservation so I'm stuck in the Original. It's a renovated motor lodge with the DougFir Lounge on the property. What I feared would happen, HAS happened. I'm ready for bed on a Sunday night, and there is a thumping party happening directly outside my door on the DF patio. Even with my room fan going and my own music on, the club music and cheering is totally disruptive. THIS is why i called to upgrade. Ending my weekend here in frustration. Unimpressed.

Yelp
EDIT: the trash can I thought they left on the sink turned out to be the ice bucket. OTHER EDIT: Added one star (from 3 to 4) because even from the get go the staff were super helpful and the owner let me know that they have same-sex options for guests. They definitely are on point with customer service! I really wanted to like the Jupiter hotel! It's retro modern fun aesthetic and hip bar/location made it a prime candidate for "I will like this." Unfortunately it was less actually updated and more "dive bar meets a bros idea of a hotel with some bad paint." There are no elevators which is something to note for anyone who has mobility needs or large suitcases. The bar next door was really nice and all the staff were very helpful. The room was small but cosy but didn't have anything very functional. Like the desk and small table were overkill. Why not have a dresser instead? Or a mini fridge? Or something better to put my suitcase on or my clothes in! The bathroom had no counter space by the sink and nowhere to put my toiletries. I mean I get minimalist design but good design is also functional yo. Also let's talk about the amenities: There was a condom by the bed and ear plugs (which says it all in my mind) the condom just scre one night stand for bros. Like thanks for the safe sex but what if you are a lesbian? No dental dams? I mean it's 2019 people, get it together. Ok and last gripe: There was white wine in the room as an option to buy (and red wine and bottles of water). I'm not opposed to the wine but it was warm. Like what am I supposed to do? Drink it warm? Also no ice bucket to even get some ice to cool it down? TLDR: Y'all gots to step up your game.

Yelp
It's a motel, the rooms open onto a noisy courtyard that's shared with the bar next door. It was worse on weekend for obvious reasons but still even if you're wanting a party place the whole area isn't the best. There are lots of homeless people and individuals with clear drug addiction or and or mental issues wondering around. There is an intentional party and hookup vibe that the "hotel" is going for but it just comes off as cheap and dingy. They go so far as to provide a hotel branded condom on the night stand. The quality of the rooms and bathrooms isn't what the pictures indicate. The rooms are really really small and the bed is so low it's basically on the floor. There was a massive gap under the door and the curtains sucked.

Yelp
If you put lipstick and a designer gown on a pig, you have a dressed up pig. But it's still a pig. That's what this hotel is. The hotel was painted and had some new furniture put in and added a restaurant/bar. It's and old hotel with a new bar, new paint and new furniture, but it's still the same old hotel. The really bad thing about this is the "patio" where bar/restaurant patrons sit outside the bar and converse. I was on the second floor and I was able to hear their conversation so clearly, I could participate and the windows and door was closed. The noise continued until the bar closed and I didn't get much sleep. If it wasn't for the 2 double shot cappuccinos I wouldn't have made it past 10:00. If you're staying here because you drank too much in the bar, you're good. If you're staying here and have to work the next day you're screwed. My recommendation is to stay somewhere else if possible. I stayed here due to availability and cost. I'll spend the extra money on the subsequent trips and avoid this hotel. I suggest you do the same!

Yelp
Was ok for the location. I got a room here because there was a metal show just half a block down at the Bossonova Ballroom. Some complaints. Carpet in room was very dirty and stained. Wall had chips of paint missing exposing the drywall underneath. The curtains are see-through. When the lights are on in your room everyone can see into your room. They still can when lights are out, but its a bit more difficult. Bar was playing music and loud people in the outdoor lounge were extremely loud past midnight. Valet is $32 and they never told me that until I checked out and the girl at the counter said I was covered since i paid cash and id only get charged $32 for valet. Other than all these things, pretty cool. Looks nice until you walk out to see some hobo kicking leaves in the parking areas and another guy laying on the corner screaming at cars driving by.

Yelp
The rooms look exactly like the picture. Take this as a positive and negative. You get what you paid for but if you paid for the small room, it's EXTREMELY small. The hotel is more like a MOTEL. The rooms are all outside so beware if you're traveling alone. There's also a giant window right in front. Walls are EXTREMELY thin. Like, you can hear a sneeze next door and any sort of bump made upstairs. So if you have rowdy neighbors, it makes it that much worse. The neighborhood is quiet (kinda sketchy, not enough street lights) but the hotel quiet hours are super late as if that's some sort of night life area. I complained about my neighbors twice. Once at 12:21 am, and I was given a long explanation about the quiet hours, and then again at 4:19 am. It was ridiculous. Room service from Doug Fir is advertised. It says all you have to do is text the hotel but I did that twice and it didn't work which was disappointing. Overall, the place is cute and clean if you only need to stay some place for a couple days.
