My Packing List for a Portland, Oregon, Trip With Lots of Walking (and Eating) | Condé Nast Traveler

"I chose to spend our pre-campus nights in the decidedly un-stuffy Jupiter Next in Portland’s Central Eastside district for its fun vending machine (get a mystery bag for $10!), chill communal outdoor balconies with views of Mount Hood, and proximity to food vendors with delicious local eats."

Jupiter Next

"What's the big picture?A block up busy Burnside from the rockstar-approved Jupiter Hotel (the adjoining Doug Fir Lounge books some of the most interesting musical acts in town), this six-floor, 67-room LoBu hotel aims for the same edgy style as its sister up the street, just with luxurious details like glass-cube bathrooms, in-room cocktail bars, and digital concierges. Driving east from downtown, you can’t miss it; designed by Portland-based Works Progress Architecture, the imposing black-asphalt-shingled box cuts a stylishly asymmetrical figure across the inner east side skyline. Inside the airy, industrial lobby, an open concrete-and-steel staircase by local metal fabricator Laura Sol of Sol Creations connects the first and second floors, while a low-slung concrete fire pit welcomes wind- and rain-chilled visitors, as does the jungle-themed Hey Love restaurant and bar. What’s the crowd like?Hip, tech-savvy 30-somethings, business people, and return visitors who’ve grown out of the wild-child Jupiter down the street. And how are the rooms?Rooms are bright and modern, with 60-inch flat-screen TVs, high-speed Wi-Fi, and techie creature comforts like Roxy, a voice-activated in-room concierge that tries her best, even though she sometimes confuses things. For maximum wiggle room, book an XL King; it’s got a big living area with convertible sofas and oversized windows with views of downtown Portland. A word of caution: Showers and toilets are separated from the main room by floor-to-ceiling slabs of frosted glass—sink vanities are outside the bathroom—so make sure you’re comfortable with any travel companions. Tell us about the dining options. At Hey Love, the hotel's tropical-themed restaurant and bar, park yourself in one of the curved black leather booths (kudos for the built-in outlets at each end, perfect for resurrecting drained iPhones after a long day of furious photo-taking) for a refreshing cucumber Michelada or rich, rummy CBD caramel–drizzled banana pudding shot. The surrounding neighborhood is thick with outstanding restaurants, all within a five-minute walk—slurp ramen at Mirakutei, queue up at the unceasingly popular chicken-and-rice hole-in-the-wall Nong’s Khao Man Gai, and blow your budget on foie gras profiteroles at James Beard Award-winning chef Gabriel Rucker’s lauded Le Pigeon. Anything stand out about other services and features?Offering a respite from the urban hullabaloo below, the beautiful guests-only open air lounge on the fifth floor is just the spot to watch a West Hills sunset. Why should we book a stay? This short stretch of Burnside is one of the most hip and happening neighborhoods in town, so why not stay in the middle of it all?" - Jen Stevenson

Fabulous stay! The beds were super comfortable with soft pillows, and I was thrilled to find high-quality cotton sheets—a huge plus since I can’t stand synthetic bedding. The modern shower was another highlight. We chose this hotel because we heard Hey Love bar was located inside, and it did not disappoint! The vibe was amazing, the tacos were solid for bar food, and the drinks were on point. Highly, highly recommend both staying here and grabbing a drink (or two) at the bar!

We've always loved staying at the Jupiter NEXT—and after our wedding there, we somehow love it even more. We had a whimsical disco wedding—equal parts heartfelt and unhinged—and The Jupiter NEXT was the only place that could have held it all. We've stayed here with friends over the years, kicked off weekends, recovered from them, and made some of our favorite memories. Getting married here felt like a full-circle moment; a wedding and a reunion all rolled into one. We stayed the entire week with our two chihuahuas (who were treated like tiny royalty), and the staff took incredible care of us from start to finish. We basically took over the hotel with our outfits, props, and general shenanigans, and not only did they roll with it—they embraced it. They were kind, funny, warm, and always one step ahead. It felt less like staying at a hotel and more like being hosted by the world's coolest, most accommodating friends. Callie (a real MVP) helped us through planning and was everything we needed: calm, clear, and genuinely kind. She made the details feel manageable and worked with our vendors so we didn't have to juggle everything ourselves. Fernando, our day-of coordinator, was a legend. He kept everything moving seamlessly while being hilarious and totally unflappable. The event space was perfect. We had ~130 guests and still managed to fit speeches, dancing, a craft table, 70s jumpsuits, a cocktail bar, a ping pong table, a photo booth, a delicious grazing table from Sprig and Spread, and so much more, without it ever feeling too cramped or chaotic (except in the best ways). Also, not having to leave the property to get to your bed at the end of the night? A dream. One million stars. The Jupiter NEXT isn't just stylish and well-located (though it's both)—it's like Cheers.... but a hotel. We can't recommend it enough, whether you're planning a wedding or just want a hotel that makes you feel like more than just a guest and more like a place where everybody knows your name. We'll be back. Always.

My parents stayed at Jupiter Next for a handful of nights while my dad was very sick with late stage cancer. We were so grateful for the clean and comfortable accessible room, as well as how friendly and accommodating the front desk was. One of the best parts of the stay was the lovely outside deck areas we were able to wheel my dad out to for fresh air. This hotel is an excellent value and I would absolutely recommend you stay here.

Google
I booked a room at Jupiter Next through my travel rewards card and called to ask about early check in. The hotel didn’t have my reservation. I called my card’s customer service and they eventually got the reservation to show up on the hotel’s end but the front desk wasn’t able to “push through” the reservation without a manager and had to wait until the following day (the day I would be arriving). I wanted confirmation of a place to stay so the credit card rep decided to use a one time use card to reserve a room on my behalf. I called the hotel afterwards and spoke with Ethan who stated he can see the new booking but wouldn’t honor it without a credit card authorization form (I “could have gotten any credit card off the street and used it to book”). I had been on the phone about 1.5 hours at the time of this interaction but I was not directing my frustration at him until he started pretentiously lecturing me about booking third party and credit card authorization forms. I didn’t want to arrive to Portland for the first time (on a leisure long weekend) to start dealing with hotel issues and Ethan truly put a bad taste in my mouth. So I ended up canceling my trip all together because it was too late to find different accommodations. With all the great reviews (why I booked originally) I’m wondering if my phone encounter was a one off or if he was just annoyed that he had to do his job. At any rate, if he is a representation of Portland, it’s not a good look.

Google
Hôtel is very cute , trendy and thoughtfully designed. Except for one important part… club noise kept thumping till 1-2 am. Also rooms are not soundproofed and you can hear everything from adjacent rooms. Beds are incredibly comfortable and fresh coffee from the lobby is nice. Wish they thought about the noise problem because otherwise the hotel would have been near perfect. I would not stay here again.

I cannot imagine a better place than the Jupiter Next second floor for our welcome dinner, ceremony/reception, and post-wedding brunch. 108 guests attended the wedding and the entire floor with patio was plenty of space. We are so thankful to Callie and Fernando who are truly amazing at what they do. Not only did the space not require a lot of extra decor, the hotel provides linens, A/V, tables, chairs. We required no rentals. We got our beer/wine from Costco and the hotel’s bartenders provided service by the hour. We were able to DIY/prep flowers from Costco as we had access to the space all weekend. Guests from out of town mingled in the lobby and common spaces all weekend. It was like the convenience of a hotel wedding plus the character and vibes of a cool local spot, all at unbeatable value. If you have a lot of guests coming in from out of town and are planning a wedding in Portland, the Jupiter Next is a no-brainer!

Google
Loved that we could use our key to greet discounts at businesses around the hotel. Staff was very friendly, parking was convenient. The room was clean and had a beautiful view of the skyline. Loved how much you could walk to!

Google
Great central location. The team has been very helpful and they seem to always be a few steps ahead of you. Rooms were clean, unique, and had a frisky menu. The event location was lovely. I was a speaker at the event, and I think the location made all the difference. The bar has some bitching nacho’s.

Yelp
Bad was the nightclub noise from across the street , soooo loud probably til 2. This was a Sunday night. And the talking in the hall was clearly audible at 10:30pm same for talking in room next to us. Jupiter needs to improve the soundproofing. They should do better at $325 a night

Yelp
Loved it! I highly recommend asking for a corner room. A lot of people we were with who got rooms by the elevator / with folks on both sides complained about the noise but we lucked out on the corner room on the 4th floor. It looked a little bigger than the other rooms too! I loved the lobby and the ability to text the front desk whenever we needed anything. The restaurant downstairs called "hey love" was really hip and fun. Ethan and Grave at the front desk were both especially helpful!

Yelp
Stayed here for a business trip and it was great! Rooms were spacious, clean, and ready before check-in. I know there were some comments about staff being slow, but that's just the Portland vibe in my opinion. Staff were VERY friendly and helpful when I needed them. Centrally located to most things. Our room was facing the Trio and did not have any issues with noise in the hallway or coming from the street. I would stay here again!

Yelp
It's 2am in the morning and between the noise in the hallway to the garbage truck outside to the music coming from across the street, I'm feeling like the construction of the hotel lacks thoughtfulness . For example, the noise from the hallway is coming because the hotel room door has a gap between the door and the floor. You can pretty much hear people speaking at normal volumn clearly. You can also hear your neighbors next door. The windows the hotel advertises for guests to see views of Portland, though large, let's in all the streets sounds. Not sure how the hotel could fix these things, but thought travelers should be aware of what is in store for them. This hotel is noisy and it'll be hard to get any good sleep.

Yelp
Hotel and staff were great. Was here for a wedding and the food was average at best. Pop up patio food was killer but the mixed drinks were just awful.

Keith L.

Yelp
Nice rooms, but the staff was aloof, rude and unhelpful. Completely unnecessary, uncalled for and unprofessional.

Yelp
Jupiter Hotel has gotten fancy! I first stayed at the Jupiter a long, long time ago. Maybe 2008? I got a home here on hotwire (back when it was actually good) for about 80 bucks and...it was amazing, everything we were looking for! Jupiter Next is a new space (I think the OG Jupiter Hotel still exists?) located above the extremely-trendy "Hey Love" (which feels much more like a "downtown bar" for better or worse). Anyway, the rooms here are incredible. The design is cutting edge...almost too cutting edge. This is the type of hotel that tries to reimagine the design of...a bathroom? The bathroom here is pretty much a plexiglass corner in the main room. Does it look cool? Hell yeah! Is it awkward because there is no fan and it highlights any and all "bathroom noises"? Also, hell yeah! We had a delightful city view and got to wake up to the sunrise glow on Portland. I'll definitely be back. There aren't many places to stay in this part of town (inner SE) without getting into obnoxiously, hidden-fee-laden Air BnBs.

Yelp
It's a mid-tier hotel priced as if it were a high-end luxury hotel. Room was just okay. It was clean and everything looked nice, but that's to be expected, no? There was a $15 charge to park in their street lot, which I wasnt thrilled with, but I paid, but all of the spots were taken! The person at the desk said they have a hard time towing, and other people end up parking there. Doesn't make sense to me, and they did refund the $15. The staff seemed indifferent and again, if this is supposed to be a better hotel (based on the price), I'd expect better service. Lastly the bed was really mushy , there's no microwave, no breakfast and there is no free coffee in the room. You're supposed to take a mug downstairs and ask for a free cup of coffee in the morning. Disappointing experience.

Yelp
I loved this hotel. It was hipster and very clean. The artwork was very interesting. The shower was a frosted-glass enclosure. The bed was superb and induced a restful sleep. The view of Portland was so pretty. It included new buildings being built, original old buildings, the colorful green mountains, and the hospital at the top of the hill. The lobby has a small gift shop with Jupiter labeled items, a bar, and a snack area.

Yelp
For our last two nights in Portland, we stayed at the Jupiter NEXT hotel, the new addition to the Jupiter Hotel across the street, which just opened up last month (it's so new that they are still renovating the bar). The hotel is quite nice with a funky decor, excellent WiFi (it connected very easily and not once did I ever have to log in again during our stay), large rooms with a comfortable bed and proper pillows (I hate it when you only get one small, flat pillow!), and quiet (although that could change once the bar opens up). However, there is one huge flaw: the bathroom. The sink is outside the toilet/shower area, which is fine. However, the walls around the shower/toilet area are made of frosted glass* which is quite see-through depending on the lighting, and worst of all, the sliding door to the shower/toilet area doesn't close all the way and there's a gap of an inch or so, RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE TOILET, giving you absolutely no privacy. There were a few other minor irritations as well: while there was air conditioning, it didn't cool the room at all during the night (yet it was freezing during the day), and I didn't sleep very well both nights because I was too warm. And to top it off, the duvet was goose down, which I dislike, because goose down is too warm for me. (Even with the air conditioner "on" and sleeping without the duvet, while naked, I was sweating.) Also, most of the staff, while not rude, weren't very friendly (although there were a couple of friendly employees working the day we checked out), and the first morning we were there, the complimentary pastries ran out HOURS before the 11am cut off, and the attitude of the employee working was pretty off-putting. While I don't regret staying at Jupiter NEXT, I'd hesitate to stay there again because it's quite expensive (I was fortunate to get the government employee discount) and I prefer to poop in private. But if you are rich and don't need privacy while using the bathroom, Jupiter NEXT is great. There's potential for Jupiter NEXT to be a four, or even five star, hotel, but due to an uncomfortably warm room at night and lack of privacy when using the bathroom, I can't give it more than three stars, and that's being generous. *The employee who checked us out said that the new, modern look for hotels is to use frosted glass for bathroom walls. I guess young millennial hipsters don't need privacy, but I'm old fashioned: pooping is a private activity. [Yelp collections: West Coast 2018; Hotels]

Yelp
Cute boutique hotel. The design of the hotel & the room is simple yet modern with minimalist lines & mute colors (light yellow, beige, tan, brown). The design of the room feels European where the sink is outside of the shower & toilet. The bed was comfortable for me as I prefer firmer beds. The negatives are: my room was on Burnside St. where there's a nightclub across the street. The music was loud and it did make sleeping difficult. Thankfully they close at 1 am. Second, the pillows were fluffy but then would go flat shortly after laying on them. I'm a side sleeper thus I prefer firmer pillows. I had to stack 2 of them together which then made it too high. But overall, I highly recommend this hotel. I can't comment on parking costs since I didn't have a car, but I can see how having to pay for street parking is annoying.

Yelp
Super cool and comfortable space. I can't wait to go back to Portland and spend a couple more nights
google avatar

Emily C.

Yelp
Could I have loved this two night stay even more? Only if it was longer. This is a new boutique hotel and they absolutely nailed everything from customer service to decor (public spaces and rooms), amenities, and location. Check in was seamless and I was thrilled to have a room available earlier in the day so we could freshen up after a cross country flight. The lobby is breathtakingly beautiful with its hanging fireplace, inviting seating areas, stylish decor, and lots of greenery. The room itself was quiet and adjacent to a lovely 5th floor terrace which was wonderful for morning coffee. I also LOVED that there wasn't a crappy wasteful Keurig in the room, the hotel provided mugs that you brought to the lobby each morning to fill with your coffee. They had a full espresso bar (for a fee) available but I didn't take advantage of that. Don't sleep on Hey, Love, the restaurant that adjoins the hotel lobby - it's phenomenal but that merits a completely separate review.

Yelp
If you find yourself in Portland, considering the Jupiter NEXT--choose the next hotel. Shower wasn't very warm. Could hear the guest above walking around non stop, and the doors are even thinner. There were a few people at the front desk that were helpful, but most weren't interested. A bunch of misses for me
google avatar

Ruby W.

Yelp
Moral of the story here: they tried. It's got some nice design elements like the large windows and accent pieces. Bed is comfortable. Everything feels a bit cheap for the cost of the room though. Do Appreciate they are dog friendly! For anyone sensitive to noise, the walls are paper thin, you can hear the conversations of all your neighbors and anyone in the hall as if they are standing by your bed. If you're planning to stay in and work Or rest during the day, it's tough to think over the constant vacuuming in the halls.

Yelp
What a killer space! I love what they've done with the place. The first floor is home to new Portland bar/restaurant Hey Love. It's a fairly big space with plenty of room. The bar being separate from the restaurant makes it easy to separate the vibes. The drinks they offer are all classics: margaritas, sazeracs, old fashioneds and the link. The liquor selection is vast, though, so you could order whatever. The staircase leads to the second floor ballroom, a large and open room with a nice patio for the summer months. I love that there's a comfy waiting room outside the ballroom so that guests for events don't need to line up and wait outside. I never saw any of the rooms in the hotel, but if they're as snazzy as the rest of the place, I'm sure I'd like it.

Yelp
I was a little worried about having made this reservation due to previous reviews, but I am so glad that I did. Hotel is beautiful Staff is very friendly and helpful The view is amazing The space is clean High tech gadgets In the room Drinks/goodies are great AND there's the only bible anyone should ever read on the nightstand- The Four Agreements. Love this hotel. Will never stay anywhere else for future visits to Portland.

Yelp
Possibly the first one to sleep in our beds, a friend and I stayed at Jupiter NEXT on their second night open. They're still working on the cafe and lobby and some of the rooms. We were supposed to have a room with two beds but they didn't have one ready so we got two adjacent rooms instead, which worked out perfectly. Several things I like about this place: 1) It's in a cool up-and-coming formerly industrial neighborhood, centrally located to much of Portland. 2) It's taller than most buildings in the area so it has amazing views of the city and mountains. 3) It's much quieter than it's sister, Jupiter Hotel, which shares a courtyard with Doug Fir lounge, open late. The decor is fun, fresh and modern with some traditional touches. I love the bathroom enclosed in thick glass, the big vanity mirror and lighting and the little open closet for clothes. It's a little unconventional having the sink area, toiletries and all, be the first thing you see when you come in the room though. Also not sure about the chalkboard doors -- we came back and someone had scrawled "No one here" on my door. Gotta say that kind of creeped me out. Several other doors had penises drawn on them, I think there may have been a bachelor party or something at the hotel. The beds are comfortable, which is always good but I was woken up around 8am the first morning by the dinging of the elevator. I grumbled that there wasn't any coffee in my room so I got dressed and went downstairs and was surprised to find a table of coffee and delicious scones! The second night I was woken up at 2am by loud music next door. I called the front desk and they took care of it. Overall, I would say this is a bit of a party hotel. The lobby is cold and austere but the staff is friendly and helpful.

Yelp
We got married here and did the full 2nd floor buyout and it was WORTH EVERY PENNY. The Jupiter staff was great and so accommodating to everything leading up to our big day and even after. They were really good at communicating and answering all my questions. It was so easy to work with them. Our wedding was perfect and I do it there all over again. Now about our stay. It was wonderful. We had so many out of town family members and friends who also commented how great of a hotel it was. It was in a great location, not too busy of an area but lots nearby to eat/drink/visit all within walking distance. The area seemed very safe too. The rooms were clean and very well kept. This hotel is great, the food at Hey Love was also awesome. The feel and overall "vibes" of this place is great and the staff is so friendly. All our family and friends LOVED this place and we had so much fun celebrating here!

Yelp
I stayed at Jupiter NEXT for our annual Project Healthy Body Retreat (4 nights). I was impressed by the graciousness of staff at all levels, cleanliness of the spaces, and food available onsite. The conference space on the second floor is laid out well and has an outdoor patio available for use as well. The spaces throughout the hotel are filled with light from the oversized windows, which helps to make the Portland rain we experienced a pleasurable sight to behold. There are lots of places within walking distance too. If you're looking for a spot to feel secure and comfortable, I say visit this place.

Yelp
We had the best time at our recent stay!! The hotel is beautiful, and very clean and crisp. The bed was super comfy, and they even have DVD's to watch. Plenty of food and fun nearby, and secure garage parking and a very secure key card access entry. Staff was super friendly and very helpful! Definitely will be back!! The view from our room was amazing!

Yelp
Ok...so we had a great time at this hotel and would return on a later trip to Portland. The concept and decorations are great....whimsical, urban and cozy. The neighborhood is interesting and in the thick of things. The attached restaurant Hey Love has solid food and a delightful cocktail program. My husband is in love with the covered outdoor porch on the 5th floor which is a great spot for a chill glass of wine with a view. It is a wonderful place to return to at the end of a fun day. The Superette is great for breakfast...and COFFEE. That said, there is some room for improvement. Valet is offered but not bell service. (To be fair bell service is not advertised, etc). There needs to be a combo valet/ bell service and here's why. The lobby is on multiple levels with a ramp and navigating your own cart through unfamiliar terrain (especially w/ a three year old in tow) is a nuisance. (Alternately, they could switch valet to the other street and enter right by the reception desk...but you don't get the restaurant vibe and the valet may be doing restaurant valet too..don't know). I'd be fine with a tack on charge for it but it was ridiculous, especially since the entrance to the lobby which shares space with the bar and Hey Love is dark at night. We arrived after dark and it was a little disorienting. I expected the cart to go careening into the desk. The restaurant, Hey Love, will do carry out but you can't call it in. Once you go down and place the order they will take it to the front desk and bring it up. Why not have a phone/online order system and menu in the rooms? It's silly and impractical. The front desk staff was consistently friendly and helpful but there needs to be a better system. The "Hey Roxy" automated system works ok for general information gathering but fails miserably when you need to contact or interact with a human. We placed a valet order three times on different days and it was obvious that the valet had not receive the summons. I doubt that this was the valet's fault. On my first night I tried to call the front desk with it and the poor staffer had to come up to the 5th floor...I needed a 20 second chat....it was embarrassing. The valets were generally friendly and helpful...that said, again, need a combo valet/bell system where they help with bags consistently and at least get you to the desk. Ok, the rooms have a great, large window that gives you great views of Portland. The only thing I had a big problem with was the shower. If you shower with soap it gets very, very slippery. There needs to be some sort of antiskid treatment. Also, a more minor issue is that there are no drawers. A cube stack would be a nice way to offer some clothes storage and not wreck the décor...also, add more clothes hangers in the room & towel hangers in bathroom. Housekeeping service needs some work. The room was not really refreshed to my liking...the bed was made and towels were removed/dropped off but large crumbs on the floor needed to be swept/vacummed (45 seconds of work here) and spilled food was left on the counters (again a quick wipe). Needed to be wiped down...an easy fix and standard in a hotel. Also, we were told to leave dirty silverware from the restaurant in the room and that housekeeping would return it...it stayed for days. And finally, the coffee mugs....we stayed three nights and for two nights I took a mug downstairs had it filled and left it at the Suprette with the other soiled dishes from our meals. The mugs were not replaced. If I was supposed to cart it back upstairs and wash it myself then dish soap should have been included in the room. Things with milk products tend to need to be washed. Loaner, branded reusable water bottles would be a nice touch...at least have them available for purchase in the lobby. Finally, IN ROOM RECYCLING needs to be offered!!!!!

Yelp
Second time staying here and this time did the suite. Honestly it's bare bones. I have four big issues 1) rooms are incredibly small even in the suite (thanks for the nice long hallway and nothing else). 2) no privacy for the bathroom. Want a door that closes fully or a fan to cover the sound... too bad. 3) even with ear plugs over 3 floors up at 1am I can still hear the club or rented out second floor. Good luck sleeping as a normal guest god knows when I will tonight. 4) uncomfortable bed and flat pillows. I have no clue how many times I woke up all the nights I've stayed here. Maybe we'll stay here again for convenience of the location but nothing else. Restaurant and second floor guests for parties are incredibly awkward to run in to. Got to hear a lovely conversation about the multiple sizes of magnums today and dealt with incredibly drunk ppl before 5pm. Two starts because at least it's clean and the staff is nice.

Yelp
Great location and the space looks cool but the actual experience of staying in this building falls way short of feeling like a proper hotel. The walls are paper thin, and was woken up at 920am today by an insanely loud housekeeper that sounded like they were standing over my bed opening up garbage bags. Definitely a bummer when I had to pay $25 for a late checkout so I could try to get some sleep before driving 7 hours. The ac unit also made a loud clicking noise all night that was a GREAT precursor to the vacuum cleaner symphony/housekeeper's speaker phone conversation that shattered my sleep at an unacceptably early hour. Also it should be noted that this hotel doesnt have blackout curtains, and ewith the shades down it is still bright enough to comfortably read a book. ***Also, regarding the "acoustical treatment between the walls"... I had security called on me twice by the room sharing a wall with my bed, while talking to my girlfriend in bed before going to sleep. The security guard basically apologized both times for having to bother us and acknowledged that we were just speaking at a normal conversation volume.... For what that's worth regarding walk thinness.

Yelp
One of the few joints that does a day rate, which as a mother of young twins it's so nice to have a less pricy place with early check in to have some time with hubs and take a nap. 4 stars is because the valet dude was so confused

Yelp
Hotel was clean and everything was very functional. Staff was super great. Both with check-in and valet. The knock off was due to smoking on the property. On the 6th and I think 5th floors is an outdoor area in which they advertise as a perk. It's a nice area but they have Ash trays and people smoke out there. Non smokers can't enjoy this and the cigarette smoke just wafts into the building. It's gross. Now if it was weed smoke that would be different. :)

Yelp
The hotel itself is great. Hip, modern, stylish. Customer service was great. Rooms are well appointed, except for the weird bathrooms. Weird because they have frosted glass walls and the door doesn't shut all the way so it leaves you feeling like the bathroom is IN the room with little privacy. You can't turn the light on in the bathroom at night or you'll fully light (thus awaken) the whole room. FOR PEOPLE WHO LIKE TO SLEEP: Make sure you request a QUIET SIDE room. The street side rooms face a dance club. Music is so loud it keeps you awake until the club closes. This wouldn't be so bad if the Jupiter didn't sell NEXT as their "quiet" hotel. Great coffee in the morning and if you're bathroom shy due to lack of privacy the lobby has plenty.

Yelp
Staff were professional, friendly and knowledgeable about hotel & Portland. Clean spaces everywhere (especially covid clean) and the hotel is such a great vibe & so aesthetically pleasing!! Bar is AMAZING - great food, fun drinks, and bartenders are the best (shoutout to Jason!) Next time in Portland would def stay here again and recommend to everyone :) Seriously 10/10!!

Yelp
Stayed here 3 nights from Sat-Tues. Would I stay here again? Yes. I love more than I dislike. Clean, modern, new, cool, nice service, hey love on the lobby floor, all good stuff. Would I like more privacy in the bathroom? Sure, but it's also kinda cool to see outside while you're in there, while anyone not in there can only see a silhouette. Walls are thin, yes. I hear people in the room next door and walking down the hallway more than I'd like. But keep the fan on and wear earplugs and use a white noise app and problem solved. Safe and convenient location. Rentable bikes right outside. Plenty of food and drink options. All in all I'm very happy to have stayed here and I'll be buying a t-shirt

Yelp
I stayed five nights at the Jupiter NEXT for our annual Project Healthy Body retreat. Everyone I encountered at the hotel and at Hey Love were welcoming and helpful. Our room was comfortable and the floor to ceiling windows provided lovely natural light. The second floor where our conference was held had ample room and spaces for our group to use. Lots of wonderful restaurants and shops within walking distance. I look forward to returning for another PNW getaway.

Yelp
I recently stayed here because my niece's wedding was going to take place in the hotel. The wedding was beautiful but the room was very small compared to other hotels I've stayed in. I requested a handicap room because I'm currently in a wheelchair and it was difficult moving around because of the small space. The room was way overpriced for the stay we experienced.

Yelp
Great location. Dog friendly, we brought our two basenji All of the staff was friendly and accommodating. The valet service was a great feature as well, Lance really helped us out. The coffee downstairs is amazing and it was nice to have the Doug Fir next door and Hey Love downstairs. The room was clean and a nice view. We were on the 5th floor. My only complaint would be the loud club across the street, at least on the weekend it was very noisy between 10 and 2. This is not really the hotels fault and if your out and about at that hour then it really doesn't matter. All In all a great experience and a good way to spend a weekend in Portland. We would stay here again.

Yelp
Great stay - front desk was very friendly and super helpful. Rooms had great style -a little tight but really only felt it when all of us were packing up at once. Has a bunch of outdoor patios that everyone can access. Lobby on the weekend is busy as is bar and restaurant but gives the place a nice energy. Went to Dune bar down the street - great drinks & small plates. If you Google map Hotel Jupiter it will take you acrosssthe street - check in at building with NEXT on it.

Yelp
Brian at the front desk of Jupiter Next completely saved our trip. Had it not been for him, I would be writing a very different review. I booked out room at The Jupiter through a 3rd party site (which wasn't that smart of me, admittedly). When we got here, what we got was NOT what was advertised. This being our first vacation in 5 years, and back to my homeland no less, I really wanted it to be a rad trip. If we had to stay in the TINY room that was not what I thought I was booking, it would've been a total bust. After talking to Brian and explaining the situation, he put us in a room in the Jupiter Next. The room is amazing, and the hotel is beautiful. Everything is brand new and high tech (the phone in our room is just a box named Roxy that helps you). I am digging the Banksy art on the wall of our hallway. Everything is perfect. All thanks to Brian!

Yelp
I didn't stay here because I run a lean organization and they wanted a $90 hold in addition to the $139 per room price tag. Next door is their sister property that is dedicated to the homeless community, where there is an on-site medical staff for testing and such. Pretty nifty business model. There is also an event space, which is awesome. The design was fresh, fun, and sorta WestHollywoodmeetsMidCentury. The vibe is gay, bougie-bohemian, and transient meets transhumanist.

Yelp
Awesome staff, very accommodating with what they could offer and didn't mind what they couldn't after talking with them. I felt safe, comfortable and treated like a friend that was visiting. You made my trip to organ! Thank you! I'd also like to say thank you to the bar and restaurant staff as well! Thank you!!

Yelp
This hotel is--in the most hilariously cheesy way--geared toward millennials. With the Banksy posters in every hallway, the Alexa equivalent in place of room phones, and the backwards room numbers that are read from a mirror reflection, the only thing that's missing is avocado toast. The bar is perfect. For the high quality food, the inexpensive prices are surprising, especially for a hotel. The liquor selection is intense. They have just about everything you can think to ask for. The staff is all really friendly--and not in a forced way like most hotels. They seem to be genuinely enjoying their job. The price of the hotel was the best part. I paid $150 a night (including fees) mid-week for a spectacular room. Much cheaper than most places I stay at with the same quality.

Yelp
Like many reviewers, I had a poor experience at the Jupiter NEXT, mostly related to service/poor attitude/LIES. As many reviewers have stated, the room's decor is nice, but a. the positioning of the shower/toilet and privacy is uncomfortable/not well thought out, b. the floors are very poorly constructed--despite a carpet overlay and walking barefoot (and being light), I could hear and feel that my footsteps were echoing, c. the doors and walls are very far from soundproof--I don't think other people were being overly loud but I could hear everything, even snoring next door (and other unwelcome human noises). Mostly, I am disgusted because of how I was treated. I could not get the A/C to work, and "reporting" it via that ridiculous Roxy device (there are no phones) yielded no fruit. So I barely slept due to the warm (73F) room. I went down for coffee at 9, and told the front desk about the A/C and that I'd reported it via Roxy. Curly-haired woman looked at me blankly and asked if I wanted "someone" to come up. I said yeah, sure. Two hours passed, and it was time to check out. I was all packed, and went to use the bathroom before leaving. There's a knock, then another. I thought I heard "housekeeping!" and said "not a good time" (I had a DND tag on the door too). When I checked out, I asked the front desk woman (curly hair) why no one came. She said, "Oh, I thought you said NOT to send someone." I shrugged and said "You misheard." But then (see below), her/their story completely changed after I informed the 3rd-party site... I issued a complaint through the 3rd-party app, and their rep got back to me after speaking to the hotel; someone fabricated a story that I had "refused to let anyone in" when they'd sent someone up immediately. Wow. Way to change the story, honey! First, I didn't want someone to fix it, so you didn't send anyone? Then, it's that you did send someone and I 'refused to let them in"? Which is it, huh?

Yelp
We decided to go with this brand new venue for our wedding. Unfortunately we did not have the customer service we expected nor did we have the wedding detail/coordination we also expected from a Hotel/Venue that has done many events before. A couple pros to start with - they decorated our room door with 'Congratulations Name & Name' and left us some champagne. There is a beautiful garden patio attached to the reception area. Since this was a new venue, they allowed us to pick our own caterer. We started the negotiations a year in advance - in regards to venue space and hotel room blocking. Throughout the entire planning process there was consistent bombs thrown on us that were unexpected costs. For example, Jupiter NEXT promised us we could be involved in picking out chairs for the reception, that didn't happen, and they choose chairs on their own. They also said we could choose between white and black linens. That didn't happen, and said they only had black linens. Then there was a table debacle about round tables vs. long farm tables. My wedding planner and myself had to continue to dig through past emails to call them out on what they promised and didn't meet expectations. And then there was the biggest upset of all - hotel room blocking. Literally, 3 days before our wedding weekend, someone on the staff said guests weren't allowed to check in until 4pm. The wedding was at 4pm. We had also sent a detailed list of Family names and what room they should be in because Jupiter NEXT said we could arrange that. And of course, people were switched all over the place even though we had a 5th floor buyout. It was a mess. I even had to talk to customer service the morning of my wedding to make sure OUR GUESTS were on the 5th floor instead of elsewhere. My exact words to Jupiter NEXT, "We talked about this in detail via email and phone to avoid this exact situation. I made sure immediate family members and friends were booked on the 5th floor so we wouldn't have random strangers(other guests) during our wedding weekend." Another example of bad customer service- when my wedding coordinator was setting up the reception hall, the linens that arrived were all wrinkled and dirty, and put on tables. Jupiter NEXT replied with a "we are doing this as a favor, so its not our problem." Luckily there was a Jupiter Sales Coordinator who did fix the problem right away and agreed that dirty, wrinkled linens were not acceptable for a wedding. The reception space needs some sound dampening control. Overall they need a Jupiter NEXT Event Coordinator. There is not great communication with their staff, and their staff is a little to laid back. Overall, I would never recommend this venue space unless communication and coordination changes. Their staff needs to be educated on the wedding industry and what is included and what is not.

Yelp
We came to Portland excited for my husbands birthday. The room at first glance was great, modern and fun. However after using the room for about 15 minutes we realized it most likely was not cleaned. There was someone's old food left in the fridge and When we went to wash our hands the sink didn't drain and out came scum and hair, and the pillows had long black hairs on them (neither of us have long black hair). And to top it off someone's toe nails were on the carpet. I went to the front desk and asked for a different room. They didn't have one so they plunged the sink and changed the pillows. They were very swift to get those changes done. They also vacuumed the toe nails and took out the old food. They offered to comp our room and give us free mini bar but we kindly declined both as this was not what we were looking for. We just wanted a clean room and no hassle for what was supposed to be a special night. I give 2 stars for the swift fix and attention to getting the room cleaned and the offer of comping our night. I'll stick with Air BnB for now on, I much more enjoy the personal experience with air bnb. I've never had issue with cleanliness.

Yelp
Cool and hip. Vibrant part of town. Good bar (Hey Love) and lots of choices nearby if you want something different.... And now the downside - It's loud AF. For a new construction, you would think they would understand the need for sound insulation, but apparently not. The bathroom is... uh... I'm not sure what it is really, other than extremely poorly designed. When using the walk-in shower, you get water all over the floor. The soapstone tiles are extremely slick when they get wet, and old fat guys like me are in constant peril of slipping (wanna own your own hotel?) There are no rubber mats to provide traction, so shower at your own risk. I was staying alone, but I'd imagine that the frosted glass walls may be an issue for anyone with a modicum of privacy regarding their bathroom activities. I pressed some ham while showering (just for fun) and I'm sure I wasn't the first to do it.... Oh, and the chair... I've never sat in a chair that seemed like it was actually pissed off at me for sitting in it. What the actual hell kind of a chair is this? The only thing that would have made it worse would be a few carefully placed glass shards... I can only imagine what it looks like from behind as I write this review.... maybe like someone is trying to push Play-Doh through a colander? This should maybe earn 2-1/2 stars. I'm actually a fan of modern design - but all too often the apparent simplicity and function of its proper execution can lure rank amateurs into the field. It seems pretty easy to con hoteliers into believing that their nephew Jared is up to the task of designing a hotel bathroom after completing his first semester of Architectural Survey at MHCC. Jared - DON'T BE A FOOL - STAY IN SCHOOL!!!

Yelp
Super awful venue. We've been there for friends birthday and bar was taking forever to give you glass of water! Set a side a cocktail! You find yourself hanging by bar with nothing on your hand for atleast 20 min. We also went for a venue there SPAM. Super expensive bc it was in "best" hotel in East but it was all spam. There are so many good bars in this city don't waste your time going there

Yelp
Beautiful hotel, bar and event space tucked away in the hip section of Portland! The amenities and decor here are sleek and stylish. The staff is Uber helpful with all needs you might have. The special event space layout is the perfect flow and balance of both indoor and outdoor.

Yelp
Their policy for not replacing coffee mugs is very silly. I figured that at least the mugs would get cleaned by housekeeping since they aren't replaced, but they never cleaned the mugs so we had dirty coffee mugs for the next morning. The lack of privacy in the bathroom is also bothersome, and the shower "door" isn't wide enough so every time we showered the floor around the toilet was flooded. And I would prefer to have an actual phone in the room instead of the Alexa knock off. Not everyone has jumped on the voice activated band wagon. But the bed is comfy, room was quiet and the hotel is in a great location.

Yelp
Really fun design & decor. Love the minimalist & industrial kind of vibe. Staff was great & very friendly, the valet were so friendly & funny. The factor that gave it 3 Stars was the noise The music from the Trio Lounge was SO loud. We got woken up every night/early morning. Maybe ask for a room facing inward & not toward the street, or invest in ear plugs. There's also no coffee pot in your room, you go down to the lobby to get your morning cup. Not a huge deal, but a little inconvenient. All in all, we'd come back if we had a room away from the street. It really is a great hotel!

Yelp
The rating is based on their policy of ONE complimentary cup of coffee in the morning and $3 each for refills. That might be OK at motel 6 prices but it was enough to spoil what had been a decent night at the hotel. I had no problem with the room although my lady friend was aghast at the lack of bathroom privacy.

Yelp
First the good. This place is super clean, pleasing to the eye with a good staff, especially the valet staff, they were amazing. It has a very chill vibe and laid back attitude. The lobby has an open air fire pit which added a pretty cool touch and overall it is a nice place to stay. The bed was comfy. Now the not so good. This hotel is very cute and modern looking on the surface, but the quality of the stuff inside (counter tops, sliding door etc.) seems cheap. I actually liked that bathroom but if you need privacy you may not like the frosted glass walls, and the door doesn't close all the way. I can move past that but the one thing that really bothered us was the noise. We were on the 6th floor and facing Burnside street and the music from the club across the street was so loud we couldn't sleep until the club closed. There are rooms on the other side of the hotel which I'm sure would have been quieter, make sure to ask for that if you are trying to get some sleep on your vacation. This hotel is newer and I'm sure will have more growing pains. It is a good location and I could see staying here again, but requesting a quiet room.

Yelp
Came in on the 4th I got greeted by the most amazing concierge this young lady with some curly hair (sorry I didn't get her name, management keep her around though!). She was real helpful with all my questions and even helped me upgrade my room without hesitation, for I had booked the wrong room online. Will forsure come back and stay just because of her amazing hospitality!

Yelp
Stay somewhere else if you want a good night's sleep. It's a nice new hotel in a cool neighborhood but the club across the street goes off at night and there are guests stumbling in after partying at all hours. Probably should have been suspicious when I saw the ear plugs on the bedside table.
