Great location and historic art deco building. Concierge lounge was excellent although alcohol was not free. Breakfast in the lounge was a full buffet with a nice range of selections. The dinner appetizers were robust as well. ||Was upgraded to a mini suite. Could almost see Central Park from the room by careening at the windows. Room was tastefully decorated but could have used a little more imagination. ||Very disappointed in the opaque destination fee. Couldn’t find anything about it on the website and I wasn’t informed of what it covered at check in. Found out that I missed out on a food and beverage credit. They could have done a better job of informing guests what it covers. Or better yet, just do away with it. Guess we’ll have to wait for truth in pricing laws to take effect before that happens.

I loved our stay at the JW Marriott Essex House. It's been 25 years since I've been back in NYC. This was a 21st birthday trip for my son who's never been to NY. The location was perfect, the room was clean and bright, and the views were amazing. The glow on the buildings at sunset along Central Park were so pretty. I called the concierge and spoke to Carolyn and mentioned that it was a special 21st birthday getaway for my son and when we got in to the room there were balloons, a cake and a bottle of champagne waiting for us. The beds were very comfortable and the closet was nice and big. The room was clean and the water pressure in the shower was great. We ate at Bourbon Steak House for breakfast and lunch and the food was excellent. We both got the French Onion Beef Dip, it was so delicious! We went to the Central Park Zoo with the complimentary tickets we received and had a wonderful time walking around Central Park which was right across the street. I will not let such a long time go for my next visit and I will be back to the Essex House to see everything in NYC that I missed this time. I have already started making my list of sights to see. Thank you to all of the staff.

Our room was at back of hotel (not looking to Central Park). The problem was the dinging of the elevator! Room was large and seemed to be an "accessible" room although we did not need/request that. No coffee maker. Good vanity products in bathroom. I am Titanium member, so the downstairs Lounge was awesome for breakfast and snacking. Friendly staff. The staff in the Essex bar was outstanding and was the French fries.|Short ride to theater district via taxi.|Hint: pay for transfer to airport.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel last weekend. We love trying new spots out in the city. This was such a great hotel. The staff was extremely accommodating when our travel plans were delayed. The rooms were comfortable. Plus, the location is perfection! Loved the daily drink credit to use in the bar. Will stay again soon.

My group of 3 had a wonderful staycation here over Labor Day weekend. I reached out to Guest Relations in advanced letting them know that we were celebrating a bridal shower. They went absolutely above and beyond in making my friends feel extra special. ||Upon arrival to our Essex Room, we were greeted with a welcome gift with a few JW Marriott branded goodies and a personalized handwritten note congratulating my friend on her engagement. A few hours later, we were even more surprised with room service delivery of chocolate covered strawberries and prosecco. This is the most well treated I’ve ever felt at a hotel and greatly appreciated the hotel’s effort in making my friends feel extra special for the weekend. ||Room: 5/5||Very spacious for an NYC hotel. The room came with 1 king bed and a sofa. Well-sized bathroom as well. ||Amenities: 5/5||Well stocked restroom and (for purchase) mini bar. The room does not come with a mini fridge, but a note on the tables says you can request for one. ||Lots of water bottles available in the 24 hour gym. ||Member Benefits: Platinum Elite||The hotel was full and I was unable to get a room upgrade, but was more than satisfied given the welcome gifts. ||The lounge offers a very extensive buffet style breakfast, with pastries, fruits, hot food, and several coffee and drinks available. ||It was closed on the Friday we arrived, so I wasn’t able to see it other than for breakfast.||$45 destination credit is provided, which can be used towards food and beverage at the downstairs restaurant, mini bar, or room service. My group decided to order room service, just note that there is a 18% service charge and $10 delivery automatically included to the order. The credit also includes access to some museums and shows.

Disappointing Stay - Not Worth the Price I recently stayed at this hotel, and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. Despite the price, the service and amenities fell short of expectations. To start, the housekeeping staff completely disregarded the "Do Not Disturb" sign, entering the room without permission—a huge breach of privacy. Additionally, the lack of basic amenities was frustrating. There were no bath mats provided; instead, they used hand towels, which is not ideal. The in-room amenities were not replenished regularly throughout my stay, and there was no coffee or tea maker in the room, a basic feature in most hotels at this price point. The mini-bar was fully stocked, but there was a catch: you couldn’t move anything without being charged, making it inconvenient if you wanted to store anything of your own. The staff overall were rude and unprofessional. Requests for extra towels or glasses took an astonishing 16 hours to be fulfilled. The bell service was the one bright spot—Mr. King was kind and helpful—but unfortunately, this was not enough to make up for the poor experience elsewhere. The view from the room was also good. Phone interactions with the staff were unpleasant, with rude responses and an overall lack of courtesy. Everything seemed to move at a snail's pace, from room service to fulfilling simple requests. For the price they charge, this hotel is not up to the mark. I would not recommend staying here unless major improvements are made.

Thanks for a wonderful getaway ! Great views of the Manhattan Skyline and Central Park from our Manhattan Suite. Right on Central Park South so lots of great restaurants and attractions are close by. The place was spotless and clean with very helpful and attentive staff. The Club level access was a nice perk.

We ended up here because the air conditioning at our original hotel was out and it was 98 degrees with humidity in New York. Got last-minute rooms and they were perfect. The staff was so friendly and polite, very professional. We were walking distance from Times Square, Central Park, the zoo, and subway entrances that were convenient. We walked a ton! The only thing that was lacking was info about the “destination fees”, which are complimentary monies or tickets from the hotel. But, upon checkout, the hotel employee found out we had no idea we had those credits and so she refunded all of those fees. Very nice.

Loved our stay at the Essex House! Such a beautiful hotel in a great location. We will definitely be back.

Regular rooms are cramped, dim, and dated. Walls are thin and elevators are slow. For $700 a night, I was given a room with a brick wall view next to an elevator that dinged all night. WiFi is $16 and water is $15. Absurd. Location is convenient and the service is friendly. The lobby is also nice.

We were nervous about booking the JW due to mixed reviews. Now I get it. It's a fine hotel, but it's not the standard and experience you expect of the JW brand. At check-in, the man at the front desk was quite rude by literally saying nothing for 10 minutes. There was no "hello, welcome, thank you for being a platinum member"... instead simple silence until my husband asked if everything was okay. He said he was trying to find a room on a high floor for us. This sounds nice but instead of a view of Central Park, we were looking at another building and their water tank rooftop. He didn't offer any room upgrades, though I'm confident there was availability. The room itself was okay. Nothing grand, but decently clean with crisp sheets. However, at a 5-star hotel I expect at least complimentary water bottles in the room (they charge $12 for a fiji bottle from the mini bar), not to mention a welcome gift or robes. Our stay was during sweltering heat and you could grab mini water bottles near the entrance. They charge a $50 destination fee and don't tell you what benefits that includes until you arrive, which prevents you from planning ahead. The fee is also daily which is absurd as there's no way you'll be taking advantage of these things everyday. As of June 2024, they included: - Daily $45 food and beverage credit - Daily 1 hour barre fitness class for 2 guests - Daily all-day pass for Citibike for 2 guests - Daily choice of admission to the Central Park Zoo or MoMA for 2 guests - Daily enhanced high-speed internet access Thoughts on the perks: The food credit can be used for room service or the restaurant in the lobby. The menu is roughly the same for both and overpriced. I wish they had a cafe or convenience type store so you can grab something on the go. I would have loved the barre class but did not pack appropriately for it. Since we're so close to the park, it could be nice to bike through it though we opted to walk. Lastly, we did take advantage of the zoo tickets - the concierge was friendly and booked our tickets quickly. In today's day and age, internet is expected, not a "benefit." Our status did grant us access to the executive lounge, which has a modern yet inviting feel. You'd think they'd locate this on a high floor with beautiful views of the park; instead, it's on the first floor around the corner from the lobby. They serve breakfast daily, but dinner is not available Friday and Saturday. The breakfast is continental with a range of hot foods, fruits, cheese, cereal, etc. The espresso machine was down during my visit which was a big bummer. Drip coffee is meh, but they offered a variety of milk/cereamers. Lastly, platinum members are supposed to be guaranteed 4pm checkout but they do it based on "availability" and only granted 1:30pm. In general, they don't recognize your Marriott status and there are really limited perks, not much value for the $$$. With JW you expect a luxurious experience and this was mediocre.

Beautiful hotel!! We enjoyed an absolutely incredible five day stay here with my family recently. We got the Manhattan view suite room. The room layout and design was absolutely stunning and spacious! Meticulously clean, and provided all of your necessities to accommodate you during your stay. Although we would've preferred the park central views, the views of the rest of Manhattan city was absolutely spectacular. The room service food was absolutely fantastic! The New York "nosh" was probably one of the best loxs I've ever had in my life! So incredibly fresh and savory tasting I ordered it multiple times during our stay and the kids could not get enough of the fluffy, delicious pancakes. Other than one or two minor things with an elevator not working, and the Keurig coffee maker they brought to the room that did not work, everything else was absolutely a five stars experience and we would love to stay here again.

We stayed here for about 3 nights during the last week in July! The hotel has an amazing location as it is located right at Central Park, so certain rooms have excellent Central Park views! The hotel looks dated, and the lobby seating area along with the first floor restaurant/bar seems a bit tired! As usual, the Marriott bed was very comfortable and slept well! The service was fairly prompt, but maybe not on a typical JW Marriott level. Based on their room rates levels, perhaps I expected a lot more from this property, such as turn down service, etc! They did provide daily housekeeping, which is rarity at Marriott hotels these days! Overall, the location was excellent, the bed was comfortable yet the service level, ambiance and the hotel look was below average for a JW.

Hosted a business meeting and room block at the hotel. Hotel was nice and updated. Had a king bedroom on the 31st floor and it was nice and easy to access. Hotel is currently under construction but isn't so bad or loud. The executive lounge is temporarily in the restaurant but they have a great selection of beverages and food for breakfast and evening as usual. Staff is super friendly, bell service is great and the Rachel & Julia (event manager and AV team) was awesome. Highly recommend staying or hosting an event here!

Love the location. Room was lovely. But few amenities that I would expect at a hotel of this caliber -- no bathrobes, no water in room, no amenities kit. New lobby is beautiful. Restaurant menu is very expensive with few vegetarian options. But bar service is excellent. And wine by the glass selection also excellent.

I was "greeted" by the hotel front desk clerk Cesar and his glorious manager Gabby in a failed attempt to "manage revenue". They ended losing $1800 revenue for 3 nights trying to hassle two Ambassador Marriott members (ie those who spend 20k a year). Treating any customer poorly is bad business, especially those who have been loyal to your brand for over 25 years. In the end - we voted with our wallet and went elsewhere. Who lost? Not us. You lost your reputation and two customers for life. Why? Because you refused to honor a $600/night rate and wanted to get greedy and get $700. Well you got zero dollars and you also will be hearing from your corporate office. People like Cesar and Gabby are not qualified or fit for customer facing roles.

We stayed here for three nights after Christmas. Overall, great location, decent (albeit dated) rooms, ok service. We had five in our group, two adults three kids. Gave our two teenagers the "cheap" room and the rest stayed in a suite with the Central Park view. I used spg points for the suite and dollars for the king guest room. Check in experience was mixed. Valet and bellhop were great, check-in receptionist was not super helpful and a little too businesslike. Maybe she wasn't thrilled about working on Christmas Day? Anyway, we didn't get much love when we asked for rooms to be close together, we were separated by 16 floors and separate elevator banks. No, we couldn't have a double queen bed room either. Asked for a rollaway bed but they forgot, had to be reminded. The suite was kind of meh, you have to crane your neck to see the park from the living room. Hmm.., not as advertised. Bedroom has a good view. Spacious floorplan and roomy bathroom. Quality of the finishes was B minus but I guess it's an old hotel last renovated in 2007. Mini bar came with a $50 "restocking" fee which I thought was a little aggressive, especially for a suite. I hate it when hotels do sneaky stuff like that. Lighting in our rooms was mainly fluorescent bulbs, very bright white light. Sub-optimal. One of the closet lights refused to turn off, seems dangerous since they burned hot. Windows in our living room were not bolted, you could easily fall out. Watch the kids! Shower pressure was way too high, like getting pelted with needles. No coffee maker, although lobby coffee was adequate. Our toilet in suite was pretty gross. I'll spare you the details but let's just say it needed a more thorough cleaning than they gave it. Lobby and first floor are very nice, well appointed with lots of amenities.

I stayed for four nights and it was very disappointing . The hotel is under construction and the dining / bar moved twice to different areas / floors while I was there . The front desk phone was not answered several times I called . There was construction drilling tonight - Sunday night at 9:45pm- on an upper floor . I'm the 34th floor . Hotel staff is lovely but there are inadequate numbers of employees . Hotel should not be open during this renovation or rooms should be highly discounted . Regardless I will not stay here again . It's way below the standards of surrounding hotels .

Comfortable bed / decent room build / initially spacious room / decent executive lounge if you have access; vs. low value for money / a lot of corners cut / mediocre staff / not all that really obsessed with clean as they advertise. I was excited to try this hotel due to its location, brand, and heritage. Upon first impression from the outside, it appears well kept. A friendly doorman approached to help with bags. Checkin was average albeit longer than expected. Persons at the check in counter throughout the stay seemed mildly distracted or uninterested, but attentive if approached (hard to put in words). There seemed to be little to no effort to upgrade the room despite having a higher status. At any approach the staff was mediocre. At no point it felt they cared about their job or went over and above. I didn't take it personally, but I expected more from a JW. I ended up in a room in a high traffic elevator area (noisier) and a brick wall view (meh - the whole point of this place was to get a view), despite this hotel being right across Central Park and having higher loyalty ranks with the chain. They seemed to do everything at the just bare minimum to pass for what they are going for. Don't get me wrong, the rooms are perfectly fine (outside of a slow drain in my rooms bathroom which they fixed when I reported, no coffee/tea maker in the room, no loyalty free water bottles, noisy shower pipes, horribly cheap paper products, unclean / mildew shower walls, and no turndown service) furnishings are average, but not truly hitting the mark for 2022 in this class of hotel (tech / bathroom enhancements). There was nothing truly special I found at this hotel, which was disappointing. The executive lounge hours have been cut. The card still has its old longer times listed on the back. Only Up to 2pm now. For the price point, my opinion is this place is below average. You're paying for the heritage (which it falls short of delivering today) and location, but not even guaranteed a decent view. I can't say I'd come back unless they reinvest in this brand and reinvigorate the people who work here. P. S. They advertise a ton about their commitment to clean: maybe clean the stains and mildew everywhere. Note: after a housekeeping mistake and noise issues they finally did offer to move me. Much smaller room, barely a closet, lower floor, insanely loud traffic noise, but nicer bathroom. I won't be sleeping much with the traffic noise in this room. I hate to sound ungrateful, but this was an insanely disappointing experience from many aspects. After this 7 day stay, I don't plan on visiting here again, nor in good concise recommend it to anyone. Spend your money elsewhere.

While visiting New York City we decided to stay at a couple of different hotels to get a sense of what different areas of Manhattan were like. One of our first stays for 2 nights was at JW Essex which is perfectly situated beside Central Park and close to 5th Ave and subways. We booked a Central Park suite which was nice in size for NYC standards but would be considered a king size room at other hotels. The room itself wasn't exactly clean but it wasn't dirty, the air conditioner was noisy and the shower took a while to heat up. I called front desk but they were understaffed so I ended up going to the front desk and waited about 20 minutes to talk to someone. When I finally was able to explain the situation, I was informed that it may take a couple of hours to have maintenance check the issues out. I presume that maintenance came while we were gone because we didn't see them come to our room and the issues were resolved. When taking into account how understaffed they were, the associates were friendly and professional which helped make our stay as good as possible. The beds are very big and comfortable and our view of Central Park was amazing which made us feel better about the price per night. We were very surprised to find out that high speed internet is not included in price but the room was furnished nicely. If we had to do over again, we would because the customer was great, location was perfect for getting around and the views were amazing.

Great location, just a few feet away from Central Park and near great dining in the upper east side. The common areas of the hotel exude old world elegance and a lot of the historical elements of the building have been preserved. The rooms are nice. Pretty standard for a JW and average in size for NYC. Lots of USB outlets (). My room was showing a bit of wear and tear, frayed bathroom mats, lamps with missing parts and scuff around the walls. Not what one would expect of a JW so hopefully my room was an exception. Staff was cordial and attentive.

Summer for several days including a weekend with the family. Location, which is why we chose this place, is excellent. Right off Central Park south. Easy restaurants. Easy subway access. Rooms were good. Clean. Spacious for NYC. Lobby is under construction so it is very underwhelming. Service was NOT what I would expect from a JW. From the poor luggage service when we arrived to the inability to check out late... We have stayed at JW from Florida to California... This place needs some work Best example was the concierge... Me: 'What's the best way to get to Met Life for the game' Concierge: 'What's that?' (Looks it up) 'oh, that's in New Jersey' Me: 'yes' Concierge: 'well, how do you want to get there?' Me: blank stare.... 'Ok thx' I just asked some dudes and we finally took a Lyft there. Bottom line: pay for the location but don't expect much more service than the Motel 6

Mostly what you'd expect, except noisier and without wifi. very poorly insulated walls make the rooms very noisy. Couple that with slow service and...well, make sure you bring your own earplugs and consider avoiding this hotel during trash pickup days in NYC. Shockingly for NYC, the internet is *literally* AOL broadband speed. Took 10 seconds to load google.com so I ran a speed test and this hotel is currently offering 200 kb internet. Not 200 mb, but kb. On service, it's professional but mediocre (I assume they're understaffed.) Trying any of the room phone options (like in-room dining or front desk) just rang indefinitely without getting picked up most of the time.

This place is regal. JW Essex does not disappoint! Management was very nice and the park view room is stunning.

Awesome 5-star hotel! Minutes to Carnegie Hall and subway stations. Central Park was directly across the street. All of the staff we encountered were friendly and nice. We stayed at a Manhattan suite and it was lovely and clean. We had a side view of Central Park from our room. Rooms are definitely well soundproofed as we could not hear any of our neighbors. The windows could be opened so we could get some fresh air. The hot water in the bathroom was fantastic! You could take a bath or shower in minutes and not have to wait for the hot water (this was very nice after a long day of walking in the City.) We also requested and was provided a mini fridge so we could store our own drinks. This hotel provided complimentary slippers, robes, an in-room safe, iron, sewing kit, and hair dryer. This hotel doesn't have a sundries store, but there is a market and a pharmacy a couple of blocks away. There is one restaurant in the hotel called "Southgate," which offered a variety of food options. We tried their in-room breakfast, and although it was delicious, it was quite pricey for the entrees, and they also charged a delivery fee for in-room dining. We were provided enhanced Wi-Fi, which we felt was at a decent speed and didn't experience problems downloading/ uploading. We had a very nice time at this hotel. Would highly recommend requesting a higher level room when possible to minimize NY street noise at night.

Stayed here several times and the hotel is always spotless with very kind and helpful staff. Nice location for getting around to the fun spots, not to mention Central Park is right across the street too!

Exactly what I would expect! We felt we were treated special. Expensive, of course, but nonetheless there was nothing to complain about. We would definitely come back here again.

Fantastic 4 day stay ! I had to Make a short trip to NYC to drop My daughter at college for the first time . The hotel is right on Central Park and close to everything . The door staff and front desk staff were helpful , caring and super accommodating. They gave us a tote bag with water and disposable face masks . The room had sanitizing wipes . For safety purposes : no ice machines in service , no in room Coffee service or Andy type of room Service and hotel Restaurant is closed . The gym is open ! Would stay here again in a heartbeat !

I really wanted to give this hotel 5 stars BUT I was left with an uncomfortable feeling at checkout and thus this rating . Apparently if you remove an item from the minibar ( in order to put milk, yogurt etc inside) you get charged automatically. And it is expensive!! There is no note warning about this. So at check out I realized I was charged for quite an amount for minibar usage. I had to explain and argue in order to get this taken if my bill. And then I was reprimanded by the young associate.... As Platinum Elite, I get late checkout- 4pm . Starting at 3:30pm I got phone calls and housekeeping knocking on my door inquiring and reminding me about the fact that I needed to checkout.... Quite bothering and totally out of place! These are little things but they bother , disturb and should not happen in such a hotel. I feel service should be more welcoming and not so strict. This is a luxurious hotel in prime location, the room was spacious and clean . The breakfast buffet is amazing even though the lounge gets over crowded .

It looks beautiful, it has a beautiful exterior. There are all ready for Christmas. It has amazing service. On thanksgiving you can get breakfast and a premium area. Schedule ahead! The rooms are very spacious and comfortable. It is very expensive but it is worth it.

bartender cant make a manhattan or a martini, the guy poured 2 parts vermouth 1 part alcohol. the booking agent on the phone botched our reservation causing a 30 minute discussion upon checkin and our family is now staying in 2 rooms that are 18 floors apart. and on top of it all the wifi has such low bandwidth that one cannot load a movie while sitting in a room that they paid a lot of money for. better wifi at starbucks. majorly bummed about the amount of money we have spent on this place. if you are looking for a luxury experience do not give this establishment your money it is a tourist trap. dissapointing to say the least.

Service: Front desk/staff are efficient but not particularly friendly. But the main kudos go to all the other staff, elevator ushers and security. They were amazing, helpful, courteous and paid attention! Valet desk was excellent as well! As were the in-room dining, room cleaning and service desk in general. Anything we requested was delivered correctly and timely, which I've found to be a problem off late in other hotels, but not here. Property: The hotel is luxuriously decorated if a bit older in style. Our rooms were connected so we had a tiny square corridor to ourselves with a door. Each room was spacious and more than what could be expected for Manhattan! Pull out sofa bed was pre-made which was helpful. Only complaint is the tiny shower in one of our rooms. Blackout shades and sturdy doors helped significantly with light and noise control at night. Location: Pretty close to multiple subway/train stations, coffee shops and right across from Central Park south entrances. NYC is a walking city in general and we loved this location. It was away from the madness of Times Square for e.g. Only con is that our specific rooms were internal-facing and all we could see were other windows.

I can't say enough about how amazing our stay here was over the past week. This was a delayed NYC / Hamilton getaway birthday celebration for my husband and due to the pandemic it had been delayed for so long I forgot what we booked ! We stayed in the Essex Suite and everything from the moment your car pulls up to the pretty entrance of this National Historic landmark , you are welcomed. The check in was flawless. You must show your vaccine QR / and ID etc here. Most of NYC requires that. The restaurant here will ask you each time too. Be ready. Our room was nearly 800 sq feet and very quiet. The layout was nice. The JW Exécutive Club was a great place for breakfast - espresso- coffee - bottled water - open from 8-11am or 12-2pm. We had daily maid service and they were wonderful! There is a resort fee of $35 p day but for Marriott Elites you get it back by way of $35 food / bev credit / $40 for laundry / yoga or HIIT classes and gym / wifi. The 2nd night we were there a beautiful chocolate torte was sent up for my husband. After a night out at Hamilton on Broadway it was nice to have wine and torte in the quiet / posh room ! No matter how hard we tried we could not finish that torte! The Southgate restaurant here is open for breakfast & dinner and afternoon beverages. It's a lively - lovely space for hanging out and it's a great vantage point being across from Central Park. There is a great salon here ; a jewelry shop and live music some nights in the ornate lobby. You are perfectly located here to find great restaurants and the concierge here guided us with great finds on food. IF you need a car... it's there in seconds! IF you happen to be here over Thanksgiving,,this is located on the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade route ! I can't say how happy we were with this amazing hotel / staff / stay! It was a perfect getaway in NYC.. thanks to this amazing hotel!!

FIVE STARS! Did I say FIVE STARS?? WOW! I don't give out many 5 star ratings but JW Marriott Essex is one of the best I have ever stayed at. My Soulmate booked this for me as he is apart of Elite as soon as I logged on to the website and clicked on notifications I was updated about my room being ready 12hrs prior to me getting there. I was already getting ask how my stay was so far. I informed the crew by chat msg that my plane delayed and told me everything will still be good by the time I reach and so it was. The Jamaican guy at check in was very nice, polite sorry I don't remember his name. The hotel had a great Ambiance right though. I was in rm 2407 that had a breath taking view of Central Park. The concierge was very nice they charged my phone for me (you didn't even have to provide your own) All while it was 1 day I had a really great stay here and will be back.

Had an amazing stay the week before Christmas. I booked a standard room and used two suite night upgrades to get upgraded to a room overlooking Central Park. The hotel itself is beautiful and staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. Someone from the staff reached out prior to my arrival and helped push my suite night upgrades through outside of the normal approval window. I was able to check in early and there was a nice gift waiting in the room when we got there. The lounge is one of the better lounges I've been to in a Marriott property and the food/drink selection was great. The views and location of the property are too notch. We had a wonderful Valentine's Weekend here. This is a perfectly located Luxury Hotel in Manhattan. Close to many cultural points of interest. Easy access to both subway and bus options. Central Park is steps away. The lobby is restored to old New York standards. There is a restaurant and bar attached. Room service available. The room we stayed in was massive by NYC standards. A very nice bed, many television options, large marble floor bathroom, fantastic toiletries, individual controlled heating and cooling. Returning to the hotel after two nights on the town was what made the weekend even more special. Friendly professional staff, easy check in. This hotel is located in one of the best locations in Manhattan. Room was so clean. They take Covid protocols seriously. This was one of the best travel weekends we have had. Many thanks.

The hotel has a superb location, but the infrastructure is dated. Our first room was very small, had stale air (it seemed the air filter hadn't been changed in ages), and faced a courtyard with a noisy air handler that also exuded a greasy smell from the restaurant. We had to change the room because there was no hot water. The second room was much better, but also had some issues with hot water because the hotel uses an algorithm to bypass hot water to rooms that have no not been rented within last 24hrs. This is fine and practical, but guests need to be informed and instructed how to deal with it. Hotel service was actually quite good; they promptly changed our room and sent an engineer to fix the hot water problem in the second room. The hotel tacked on a $35/day resort fee ("daily destination fee", not $25 as web search says) that is okay if you want to use the hotel restaurant or spa or take an exercise class at the Exhale spa next door. However, we'd have preferred not to have this "incentive" to use the additional hotel services. For the price we paid, we expected higher quality rooms and premises. There are other hotels almost as close to Central Park with similar room rates and better maintenance and cleanliness.

The location is ten stars. Front desk staffing levels and bellhop helpful levels are a two star. But the asst manager helped wonderfully. Not all front desks can handle titanium and platinum status guests but once they brought out the asst mgr our service level was exponentially better. Before that at 3pm ish they had one person at the desk with four guests in line. Isn't that check in time?? Apparently someone was on break. So because of Covid I guess - they were understaffed. The person "on break" never appeared as I was up and back to the lobby a few times running errands. Night staff was plentiful and very helpful. My room was gorgeous and overlooked Central Park. I was only on floor 7 but it was still a beautiful view. Breakfast was a no for me. But I'll be back because I mean why eat hotel breakfast when you have so many other local favorites. Elevators were plentiful and the property has an easy to access back and front entrance. The lobby had live music and it was beautiful. Great lobby to sit in and discuss all the fun to have in the city.

Wanted to stay at the Essex house for a number of years. Boy am I disappointed. Terrible views. Small room. Hotel not updated and way too expensive for the room and lack of decent amenities. Window seal is broken. This was a big mistake to book here. I will never come back.

I was excited to stay at the Essex House since it is an iconic classic New York building and hotel. Check in was very quick and easy. Unfortunately no elite upgrade was offered which would have been a nice bonus. The moment you walk in you can tell that you're in a classic building. The lobby and vestibule to the elevators are beautiful and consistent with the charm of the building built like 100 years ago. The elevators were my favorite design aspect with their classic old-fashioned design. It was nice to have these older touches in the building. The room was nothing spectacular, but relatively spacious for New York. Small bathroom of course but clean, luxurious, and modern. Overall the renovation was down very well to make sure you get the modern JW feel with the older building. I found it strange that there were bath salts in my bathroom....especially since there was only a shower and no tub in my room. The gym area was also nice (maybe small for the building though) but also had a sauna. I'm not sure if I'll be back soon since there are lots of great choices at this amazing location right on the park, so I likely want to try the other hotels out too. Still recommend it though!

This is my preferred hotel when traveling to NY on business. Each stay has been pleasant. Rooms are spacious, clean and comfy. However this time I was a little disappointed with the inside restaurant - Southgate - offering a limited menu and the same daily special. I normally like to dine at different spots but due to the pandemic, it has become a bit challenging.

What a fall from grace...from a fantastic brunch experience that was one of the best in NYC to a huge disappointment... it would appear that the Essex House's Brunch has been "Marriottized" 41.00 p.p. ? It's the same food that's served at any Marriott but this is the Essex House and it should be somewhat special. It's not. Save your money and go somewhere that actually try's.

This is an easy location from Columbus circle. It's a 15-20 minute walk to 42nd street, Not a lot of security walking in and out of the hotel. Room service food is good especially the wings and you don't have to wait long to have it delivered. If you are located next to the elevator you can hear everyone going down the elevator. And the walls are paper thin, the sheets were worn out and so hard, the room was cleaned but the carpet had a few stains on it. And the quality of the pillows were so bad They do offer different perks for members but overall it was a pleasant stay

1bedroom suit was amazing, huge room for NYC. Very clean hotel, staff was prompt on very question or need we had. Location couldn't be better, right across from Central Park and a 10 minute walk to time square.

Place is a relative steal for two beds and a Central Park view. Suites are big for this city too. Beds are comfy and location is the best. Food is above average on site and staff is top notch.

My daughter and I stayed at this hotel for a week during her Spring Break during the last week of March. Situated across from Central Park, the location cannot be beat. Upon arrival, we were greeted by doormen and bellman who were suited up and ready to serve. We flew in from CA and after sitting in some unpleasant traffic from JFK to the hotel, their friendly and accommodating faces were a pleasure to see. Once inside, we were glad to see a very stately and clean lobby. The front desk staff were friendly and efficient and made our check in process easy. They had us in the elevator and into our suite within minutes. Our suite was in a quiet corner on the 22nd floor. The only thing I would say is that it lacked decoration so it felt a bit empty. But that said, it was very spacious, quiet, and very comfortable. The only thing I would suggest to management is to include coffee makers in the rooms. Most hotels do that so I was surprised that this one did not have one. While we loved getting our coffees at the various nearby coffee shops, it meant we had to go out and get it and sometimes you want your coffee as soon as you roll out of bed and still be in your jammies. Also, the food at the hotel restaurant was just meh. But there were so many fabulous restaurants to walk to that food wasn't really a problem. All that said, I would highly recommend this location to friends and family. We would definitely stay here again!

Wonderful location, but terrible service: (1) took 15 min to check in a lifetime platinum member; the guy at the front desk did not know what he was doing. He had to ask another guy. (2) lots of people walking around that looks like bell boys, no one offered to open the door or help with the suitcase?! (3) took 10 min for someone to pick up at in room dining, not friendly or accommodating (4) headboard had massive stains that were just gross to look at take alone sleep in that bed

Shocked and appalled by inappropriate behavior of staff member Kassandra and disengaged management. I have used Marriott for business and vacation travel for 10 years and have never encountered a more disrespectful staff member. Three days after the incident, I have still gotten no response from management. I extended a business trip to enjoy Central Park and booked a night here at JW. While staying at another Marriott property across down, I used the Bon Voy app to ask about a room with a view. Kassandra responded saying no view rooms where available. I asked additional questions about what was available and if she had access to the Ritz room availability. She then sent me her number to call her. Thinking she was going to help me faster on the phone I called her. Big mistake. She screamed at me (actual screaming) "Explain why I need to tell you 4 different times we don't have a view available!" I was shocked, told her she was totally out of line and she continued to scream at me on the phone, I literally was not able to get a single word into the conversation. I have never been actually yelled at by the staff of any business let alone a Marriot, and a JW at that! I felt like I was in the twilight zone. I had to end the call because she would not stop yelling. This is an embarrassment to Marriott and the JW. I then send in a complaint through the app detailing the time the call was placed in case they had recordings and after 3 days later have heard nothing. Avoid this hotel if you value service and respect. (I ended up extending my stay at the Renaissance Chelsea and the staff was fantastic and accommodating!)

I feel right at home whenever I stay here on my frequent visits to NYC! So lovely it is to be greeted warmly by my name on my returns! Fantastic it is for this hotel in delivering meticulously my allergenic requirements on my reservations! When the Marriott Corporation took over this historic Essex House, I really appreciate them in keeping the elegance of their entry and lobby area to loving their renovations of a modern minimalistic style to their rooms/suites! Best of both worlds! Spectacular is their location; wonderful is all their services rendered from valets to maid services; knowledgeable are their concierges; and, fantastic it is with their executive lounge, 6:30am - 10pm! BTW: A special shout of thanks to RAMON who has taken such good care of me whenever I check in! Another pleasant stay it was on this 4th of July! Off I go today and will be coming back in a month or so! CHEERS!

My favorite property in NYC it's about the staff who are very courteous and professional. My home away from home. It's an iconic hotel and with very beautiful character of their elevators, elegant and one of a kind. I always wanted to thank you Madeline Vargas ( Executive assistant ) and Laura Burton ( Resident Manager) for an upgraded beautiful spacious suite. Enjoyed the Cherry blossoms experience in Central Park. My gratitude to all the staff like Felix, Jasmine and Mr Q . Excellent customer service. Club lounge was utilized for every guests to avail hot coffee, tea , different juices, fruits, bars and yogurt. Nice to have this at least. Hoping that their in house Southgate restaurant will be open soon. This property always exceeded my expectations and I am very grateful for that.It's walkable to Columbus Circle, 5th Avenue and the rest of the NYC landmarks. I am very excited to stay here again and again!!!!! Highly recommended for any occasion. Accessible to all transportation. Subway, buses , etcetera. Once again, Thank you JW Essex House

We found the location good, across the street from Central Park, and easily accessible to many wonderful sites (including shopping). The doorman and concierge were helpful and cordial. Our challenges with the property felt like we were just a number. As a Marriott elite member, the perks we typically receive at Bonvoy hotels were scarce. They deleted our number in the system and weren't able to re-enter it. This meant no upgrades, concierge lounge, point... the restaurant also didn't allow takeout. Room service took 90 minutes for delivery. First world problems I suppose.

Beautiful classic hotel right across the street from Central Park. The rooms are above average in size and the bed and pillows were very comfortable. The in-room dining quality was excellent but if not for the insanely expensive prices. The staff through out the hotel was very courteous. One of the security guards by the elevator kept saying, what I thought was, "need help?" To me every time I walk by. Took me a while to realize he was saying "ni how ( greetings in Chinese). There were only a couple of negatives. The water pressure for the shower was a little weak and the window was not quite as sound insulated as I'd like. There was a constant sound of the cooling tower from down below. Overall a very nice high end hotel.

Our stay at this hotel was horrible. We spent a fortune over my birthday weekend to stay in a suite to only find out there was no internet or TV and no one would do anything about it! In addition, the second to last day before we left no one came to clean our room even after requesting it multiple times. The room wasn't even fully cleaned when we arrived, there was a wrapper for a band aide on the floor of our bathroom. I am so upset by our stay. The only positives are the location and breakfast was included.

The worst place to stay in NY. Location is good, but it's not a 5 star hotel at all. You wake up 1 am every night from a terrible noise, they move garbage all night, not letting you sleep and rest. Terrible experience.

Our stay was amazing! Great doormen, front desk and room service. Highly recommend... amazing beds as well...with our time difference, we didn't leave the bed until afternoon amazingly located.

First day and so far not good. Originally requested early check in but the hotel couldn't accommodate. Also booked a Central Park view room and got a room with no view but the brick building across. I've stayed at many other JW Marriott's and this one unfortunately doesn't deserve that title. Considering this is the New York location I was expecting more.

This is a beautiful hotel. My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights. When we made the reservation we requested a high floor with a view of Central Park. When we arrived we were given room 1503. We had a beautiful view of Central Park. The room itself is very small but that's standard for NYC hotel rooms. It was a very nice room. The bed was a queen size bed. They have a small closet big enough to fit a few hanging clothes. The bathroom is cute but small. Only one person can fit in there at a time. They have a nice restaurant on the first floor. They have a brunch buffet every morning that is $40/person. You also have the option to order off the menu. At night they have a projector that they project sports games on to the wall. The bartenders are hit or miss. Some are really unfriendly and some are nice. Overall a great place to stay. It's in a great location on the south side of Central Park. I would definitely recommend staying here.
