The best mochi I have ever had. The cherry blossom leaf rice mochi with red bean filling was moist, sweet and slightly salty; an incredible flavour and texture combo. A great spot for Japanese desserts in San Francisco.

Delicious Japanese confectionery. Mochi here is very good. They are all wrapped individually and boxed. They can be expensive, but they are nice for gifts.

What a great store to find great unique Japanese desserts. Similar to ones you see in Asia, everything is perfectly displayed and wrapped... as if it's a gift. I came and was curious to see what they had. To my surprise, they not only have a lot of boxed gifting options but also individuals desserts to buy and eat on the spot. The staff is kind, polite, and attentive. They were helpful to find the right mochi for me to buy and bring back home. They were able to tell me which ones would survive the plane ride back. The mochi itself had the the perfect soft chew while giving way to the dense sweetened chestnut paste inside. It was rich and sweetened lightly. The chestnut was very flavourful and reminded me of the roasted chestnut flavour you get on the street. Wonderful spot and I highly recommend it

Welcome surprise to see this store as I walked by. Bought some Hakuto mochi as a gift for a friend's who recently purchased a house nearby. They have great selection. It goes without saying that the displays were beautiful and well presented.

Christmas is the only time of the year that we enjoy this most wonderful treat. My brother in law buys a box for my mother in law which she kindly shares with the family. The texture, the just the right amount of sweetness and size makes each bite a slice of heaven. The green tea, strawberry and white peach mochi is to die for. I've never been to a store but plan to soon. Enjoy!

I've never had Japanese sweets before, so I was pretty overwhelmed at picking what I thought I would enjoy. After reading some reviews, I saw many people enjoyed the white peach mochi, which seemed like something I could ease myself into with, as I enjoy peach, and I enjoy mochi. The space itself is so pleasing to the eye and welcoming and well designed, which is why even wanted to go in in the first place. Since I am a shy person and I did my research beforehand, the service was pretty straightforward where I walked in and I asked for the white peach mochi and they gave it to me. They also gave me a pamphlet as I checked out, which had I guess some of their top treats, which was really nice because it puts a little less pressure on me deciding what I want to have right away or what I should try right away. After looking at the pamphlet, there are some desserts that I would love to try based off their descriptions, so I'll definitely come here again. Some people have pointed out that it is on the more pricey side and I agree but that being said the packaging and overall quality is pretty high-end so I don't think it's unreasonably priced but it's definitely not somewhere you'd buy a treat for yourself every day. The white peach mochi was a treat. The peach is light (very much a flavoring of peach but still good) and the mochi is a yummy and fun texture. It is a sweet treat and not something you'd want to eat all at once, but something I'd be tempted to eat one every few hours haha

Dorayaki/Tsuya is definitely their must try item! This red bean pastry is just the right amount of sweetness. The bread is moist and soft, so the whole pastry was super enjoyable! The interior of the store looks neat and fancy with all the clear displays of pastry items. We didn't get any service besides the check-out process.

Perfect place to go if you're looking for high-end Japanese sweets as a gift to yourself or to others. Each item is beautifully packaged; I'd definitely recommend going in-person to see everything they offer. One word of caution--it can be tempting to settle with a boxed set because of the sheer number of options, but don't do it. I personally find that many of the best and most special items they offer are never included in the boxed sets. Instead, if you're not sure what to get, do some research beforehand and/or ask the staff. They're very kind, and they helped me pick items I wouldn't have chosen but really liked. It can help to provide information on what kind of flavors/textures/other desserts you like. Everything here is expensive, so take the time to pick something you'll love! My personal favorite was the tosenka, which is a spring special (in the box to the photo) that consists of a whole peach in jelly and served cold.

I've thought of this place for years UT had not gone because I'm always never in downtown San Francisco on foot. It is a beautiful small shop right on Market Street. I was concerned that the prices appeared on the higher side because we can eat so many of them. I only bought 5 individual pieces and then I saw a sale of the waffle macha cookies at half price @$2 because they were cracked. I grabbed 5 of them on the tray. I left a couple because I didn't want to appear too excited by the SALE sign. Everything was delicious and authentic. It was so good paired with our hot matcha tea. They are not as sweet as the ones made here in the US. They are dangerous because you can eat quite a few easily. The waffle cookies only had a small crack. They were not in crumbs. I wish I bought them all.

This is such a cute japanese confectionery shop in SF! The aesthetics of everything here is just so pleasing to the eye and I always have the urge to peek in when I'm in the area. My friends gifted me a box of their white peach mochi and it was so cute and absolutely delicious. The mochi was soft and smooth, and there was just the right amount of peach flavor - subtle, yet completed each piece. I could tell a lot of thought went into the packaging as well, and it made the whole experience even more enjoyable. I will admit the price can be a bit high, but I highly recommend stopping by if you're ever in the area or looking for a nice gift for yourself or someone else!

Returning to the office recently and I finally made it back to may favorite Japanese sweets shop after a 24+ month absence. I call these sweet treats, but honestly they are far from sweet--American sweets are much more sweeter. I love everything about this place and while it may be a little expensive, but it's well worth the price, in my opinion, for a little indulgence. My favorites are the chocolate mochi--filled with chocolate cream, senbei (rice crackers), and the chocolate doriyaki. Their other offerings include a variety of mochi, cream filled cookies, tsuya--red bean "pancakes", daifuku, baumkuchen (cake roll), to name a few. These make beautiful gifts, and they will gift wrap your package upon request. Get a sweet taste of Japan for a fraction of the cost--definitely cheaper than airfare!!

When you crave Japanese cookies & Mochi I enjoy going to Minamoto. It truly is a treat bc it is quite expensive. I bought a gift set that included 8 pc.peach Mochi, 3 Cherry jellies & 3 Green Peach Mochi for $49.60 to give to a friend. They gift wrapped it beautifully. Items Purchased: 1.Sakura Waffle $3.80 ea. is a seasonal waffle cookie filled with a light, creamy cherry blossom cream that just melts in your mouth. The waffle was really fresh for being packaged bc every item had a best by date to consume 2.Maccha(Matcha) Senbei (waffle) $3.80 like the Sakura waffle, it is a fresh, crunchy waffle cookie filled with Matcha, never disappoints. 3.Kuridaifuku- Mochi w.red bean paste & sweetened chestnut $4.20, I haven't tried it but I know it will be soft, full flavor, not too sweet, just enough to satisfy my sweet craving. They offer a rewards program & after spending $87 this time & probably $30 the previous, my next visit will be ) $10 off

Start off the New Year 2022 with a gift to self or to loved ones. Minamoto Kitchoan has the mochi and other Japanese sweets that will fit the bill. I popped in and purchased a mochi with white bean and kumquat. Nice treat! Must eat it by tomorrow. There were also cool decorative items for your door or desserts. Make a purchase and pay $2 for a decorative gift sack. Mine is particularly beautiful, don't you think?

Super super cute ambiance! If you like cute things, this is a treat for you! Very friendly and helpful service! Every food item is unique and exquisite. I loved all the mochi. The seasonal persimmon mochi is just perfect. I also got their matcha cake for thanksgiving and everyone loved that it was a nice break from all the overly sweet desserts. And it's beautiful too! Final Verdict: highly recommend if you like trying unique and exquisitely prepared desserts.

Been a while since we've been here, but we always enjoy coming back! The prices are definitely on the higher side (a single mochi or pastry will set you back about $4-6... some items are much more!), but the presentation, quality, and service are all top-notch and luxurious. Our favorites are the vanilla white bean cake, sakura daifuku, and the pear and white peach flavored treats.

Where can I start? Should I begin with this is the only Japanese place that sells authentic desserts. I love bean paste and such. Mochi and Wagashi especially the seasonal one like a Sakura season. They also carries Yokan and my favorite,Dorayaki. Bean paste pan cakes here are the best. All their desserts have expiration dates so you need to eat it fast. I have no problem finishing it fast. Keeping it longer than a week is the problem I seem to be having. Their service is also very pleasant and accommodating. Politeness is their way and that is so appreciative from the kind of ppl like me. I like peaceful way of communicating. I love when a person look you in the eyes and smile. I have issues yes but it shows a mutual respect to a person. That you see them and not their wallets only. They are so far out of my way but I go there every chance I gets. It is so worth it.

Place was dirty and cluttered. Staff was really mean about wearing face coverings. The products are really nice though, and it looks like they have an online store. Recommend shopping online instead to avoid the horrible ambiance of the store.

You will find a Great variety of Japanese desserts here! I really liked the chocolate mikasa, I wish I ordered a whole box - its not super sweet which makes it great and the fluffy exterior is yum. I also liked the matcha cookie - it is very matcha but very tasty. This place serves packaged stuff only so I was not able to try the sponge cake (because they only offer a full box). But it's great because you can buy a mix of treats for friends since they're already packaged.

If Japantown wasn't the place to get particular Japanese sweets, how about Minamoto Kitchoan? You'll find one sweet place in the Financial District alongside DAISO, and very next to the high-end Japanese sushi bar and grill. Not much interesting to see more of Minamoto in a very small business space. What's still interesting to me were a pair of gentle high pitched female staff members who will continue to keep their sweets shop running. I use to come here few times. One time, I bought matcha sweets from last year. This year, it'll be just window shopping. And it might be my last time I set foot here since we all abide to contactless payment. I'm starting to treat this place as a sweets exhibit the next time I come to Minamoto. If I ever come back again, I'll be asking questions first. Instead of a matcha/red bean combo, I'll be hoping for a strong dark highly concentrated matcha, just like in the insta-mercials. ( ^ w ^ )

I love the manju Here. It's a bit expensive but they are so delectable . My favorite is the white bean filled manju cakes . I tried the mini white peach ones but they were too sweet for me . The service is always attentive .

I love coming here to get fresh mochi whenever I'm in San Francisco. The only problem is that their hours is not convenient for me. Also, selection is limited since you have to buy a whole box for several of the items.

I work in FiDi and this place was a 5 min walk from my building - highly recommend this place for a quick snack if you work in the City - also an easy treat to bring home after the workday! The mochi texture is SO soft and chewy - I recommend getting a few of the singular flavors just to try with friends! My favorite was the red bean/chestnut because the flavors work SO well together, and it wasn't overly sweet. The peach mochi is their most popular, but I found that the fruity flavor isn't super distinct and it just tastes sweet overall!

This place has always been my go-to place for sweets! Authentic Japanese wakashi, their Sakura omochi is my favorite. Baumkuchen has been my bucket list for a long time, after pandemic, we just have to treat myself! Soft, refined texture, not overly sweet and delicate taste! Everything I've been dreaming of!

Kumquat mochi....oh so delicious! I think they are seasonal which is unfortunate because they are out of this world!!! They have these yuzu peel candies that are delicious too! Some of the staff is very friendly but one young lady in particular seems so miserable and gets irritated with any question you ask her regarding their items. The few times we came here when visiting she had the same bad attitude. The Mochi are delicious and their seasonal cherry one was amazing! We got this persimmon flavored one that was horrible and so expensive that throwing it away was sad!! Either way, we look forward to the next time we're in the area to stop by and get more mochi!

Cute shop with great displays of Japanese desserts that made me want to get everything there and bring them home.

Went here for the first time this week and I was absolutely delighted with the selection of stunningly presented sweets. Since it was my first time, I chose to buy a six different individual pieces, but gift box selections are available. The momowakahime (miniature candied green peach wrapped in a mocchi skin) and the tsuyaguri were my favorite, but everything was fresh and delicious. If you were looking to get a small, beautifully packaged gift for a dinner party bring along or any other small celebration, this would be a great option. The staff were attentive and pleasant in answering my questions and let me browse undisturbed. Cannot recommend this place enough.

I'm obsessed with pretty treats and the selection here was unparalleled. We ordered 4 kinds of mochi and 1 jelly. Here's what I ordered in the order that I enjoyed them: 1. kumquat mochi (kikandaifuku) 2. chestnut mochi (kuridaifuku) 3. young peach (momowakahime) 4. peach jelly (momoaya) 5. sakura red bean mochi (sakuramochi) The texture and flavor of the jelly was fun/pleasant but I felt like it wasn't worth the money and we finished it in like 1.5 gulps. I highly enjoyed each of the mochis though and savored them more slowly. Everything was individually packaged beautifully and tasted so good. Docking 1 star bc the prices are thru the roof. 4 Mochis + 1 jelly and I spent $22.

This shop has a lot of goods that are imported from Japan, so the prices can get quite steep; it can be so easy to spend $50+ if you are not careful checking the prices! This is the easiest way to go broke if you impulse spend haha. Anyways, there are lower priced items I checked out such as the mochi, which is quite worth the price to an extent. There are some mochi pieces that can go up to $20 a piece, as well as gift boxes of various sweets you can get as a bundle. I went with the Kuridaifuku, Sakura mochi, and Fukuwatashi. The Kuridaifuku is one of the more popular sweets here, which is mochi with red bean paste and a whole chestnut inside. The texture and consistency is very similar to handmade mochi, like the ones found in Benkyodo in Japantown. The chestnut carries the most prominent flavor among all the other ingredients within this mochi. The Sakura mochi is also filled with red bean paste, but there is a salted cherry blossom leaf surrounding the mochi and cherry blossom flower placed on top. The reason why the mochi is placed in a square container is that it is very sticky. This is a different variation of mochi as while it is soft and chewy, it is more of a sticky rice consistency. The cherry blossom leaf is very similar to lotus leaf found in lo mai gai dim sum. The Fukuwatashi senbei is a zig zag designed cookie with sweet cream filling. We were initially disappointed that the matcha senbei was sold out, but we were glad to check this out instead because I have had so much matcha related food items already. This sweet is very buttery and crunchy, with a slightly sweet vanilla flavored filling. The filling is of fine granularity, so it was not really smooth. Overall, the sweets are almost perfectly made and is definitely worth the premium, though I would personally want to go to Japan to get some myself without paying the high overhead costs of imports.

Again! With the fabulous customer service. They are extremely knowledgeable of all their products. Really helpful in helping me pick out treats and gathering them. They have new items, seasonally. As I went in this time, they had a few new ones which I can NOT resist!! Not only did I purchase once but twice!! They have new watermelon, white peach & loquat jelly, not too sweet and flavor is amazing. They have a new muscat jelly that SOOOO CUTE, too cute to eat but it's a must!!! It's decorated with 2 cute fishies, a leaf and a bean.

Let me first just say that spot is very similar to what you expect to see in Japan for confectionary gift shops, and would make great gifts for holidays and special occasions. As these mochi are imported from Japan, you are expecting higher price tag but the presentation and taste are what you're getting. I received mochi from this spot and the key to enjoying them when you have leftovers is to freeze and microwave them right out of the freezer. My favorite is their chestnut one.

I work across the street so I've been known to wander in here when I want to treat myself or look for a special gift for a foodie. They have beautiful packaging and will usually gift wrap your items if you ask. Their sakura mochi, shrimp/scallop crackers and peach jelly are my favorites but honestly, everything here is outstanding quality and delicious. Just don't look at the price. :) And a tip for the frequent shoppers like me, make sure you sign up for the rewards card. It'll add up before you know it.

If you love peaches, MK has two decidedly decadent offerings for you. Hakutou Jelly is a creamy textured custard-like sin. Smells and tastes so peachy! I'm not sure how these are created, but just don't look back. Just try one. There's a mochi ice cream version too! For a real peach, Tosenka, is a whole white peach encapsulated with the jelly. Best eaten cold, it's so refreshing! I buy one for a friend and one for me!

if you want to try sweets made in Japan, surf no more! Go to their website and order some. This is the perfect gift for that someone that has everything. they can only eat these sweets if they hop on a plane and head for Japan or order from Kitchoan. I have sent these to my Japanese friend who was recovering from chemo. He needed to gain weight but his taste buds were seriously tired and bored. Never fear, this place has something to appeal to the most refined palate. He loved it. It's not cheap. There are other perfectly good sources for what I would call pretty darned good locally made Japanese sweets. Not nearly as good as what I got in the best restaurants in Japan but decent and in many books, a much better bargain. This is for when you would literally hop on a plane, you want that authentic high-end taste. Or maybe you are buying for someone who is very discerning in their tastes. maybe that person is a Japanese native or someone who is well-versed in the finest confections in Japan. This is where you go to buy the very best that you can purchase outside of Japan. Take the plunge and buy some and yes, the shipping is expensive, but it's a LOT less expensive than flying over there and bringing it back. You won't be sorry. BTW this passes my very strict stepmother's inspection. Appropriate even for dignitaries from Japan who are feeling homesick. As for me? Once in a while, I treat myself. Such an indulgence. I make a bowl of matcha tea from Kyoto and sit in my living room and turn on a nice NHK travel program. If I can't fly there, at least I can enjoy what I would have in the afternoon, close my eyes, take a bite and enjoy the refined taste of the best Japanese confections.

Pricey, but definitely a once in awhile treat. I purchased a matcha waffle cookie sandwich and it was $3.50. Never would I buy one cookie for that price, but I really wanted it. It was packed with matcha flavor. The cookie was crunchy and the matcha cream filling was the best matcha cream filling I've ever had. Would I come back? Yes. Highly recommend for a treat or pick me up. Overheard that they have peach mochi but they aren't sold individually, so one day!

This is my favorite place for high quality Japanese treats (mochi). I always get the kuri daifuku that's filled with sweet red bean paste and a whole chestnut in the middle. It never disappoints! Best place for gifts and to treat yourself.

Don't have expectations when shopping here. The prices are higher than at similar sweets shops, no seating, nothing is made to order, or warmed for consumption. Despite the caveats expect to find unique Japanese sweets (imported hence the pricing) made with fruits. Items range from cookies, to mochi (no ice cream), to jelly, to cake, etc. Each is nicely wrapped and sold separately or as a pack and gift box sets. Service is helpful and super friendly. Splurge on something here if gift-giving.

I've never visited a nicer, cleaner, more beautifully displayed Japanese candy store in my life. But, since this is the only one, I can't even imagine one any better. The array of handmade candies is breathtaking, and the prices also tend to make one gasp. The candy is worth it, but still, it's not something I would regularly buy. That said, the candy is quite delicious, and yes, some was brought home for later consumption. Staff member Kazumi was most helpful and patient during our visit. This is a serious candy store, almost a contraction in terms. It is a feast for the eyes. And sublime satisfaction for the sweet tooth.

Luv luv luv this place. So cute and charming inside. I've been here twice now. It reminds me from when I went to Japan. It's expensive and a drive but worth it. I love trying different treats. The people who work here are so nice and welcoming. Right when you enter they greet you. They take of each item you purchase. They wipe it down and wrap it in the most beautiful paper. I signed up for the rewards program just because I know I will be back. Great place for treats for you or a special gift to someone.

Gringo disclaimer: I have no idea what this place is, or what expensive little Japanese desserts mean to the people who shop here regularly. I don't consume mochi with any regularity, beyond the occasional box of ice cream mochi from Trader Joe's. That said, sugar is good, and I think that's pretty universally understood. I stopped here at the suggestion of an old colleague I hadn't seen in months - I think he was picturing a little cafe, so we were both kind of surprised when we found what was basically a See's Candies full of beautifully wrapped little desserts and hilariously friendly ladies peddling them (literally, like picking one up and telling me how tasty it is). We bought a couple, and then ate them on a bench in the Wells Fargo bank nearby. It was a unique experience for me. Seating in the place would not go unappreciated. I did a thorough, studious sweep of the store to understand the gist of it - pretty pricey boxes of beautiful candies/mochi-things, and individual ones that you can buy for a few bucks each. I poo-poo'd all of the ones that had chestnut (which was a good number of them), and grabbed a one-off of a Matcha-thing...it was like matcha goo wrapped in premium Nilla Wafer skin. It was great! Not looking to make it a habit of it, though. I also picked up a $16 box of Strawberry Mochi - 8 in the box, and they were definitely the softness, nicest mochi I've ever had in my life. They actually tasted like real, grown strawberries, not "strawberry flavor." Pretty solid, and they doubled as a sweet gift for my +1. All in all, I would eat more of these little things. They were really, really good, but definitely out of any price range I've ever considered for mochi. The Wells Fargo has beautiful architecture, if you're looking to make a day of it. Cheers.

I spent $7.30 on two things, a piece of mochi and a green tea waffle cookie. A bit pricey but honestly it was worth it! The cookie had matcha creamer sandwiches in between two waffle crisps. Soooo good! Crunchy yet smooth. The mochi was one of the softest I've ever had. It morphs as you grab it because it's so soft! Flavor was on point too.

I've got a huge problem. This place is only two blocks away from my office. Everything they have here is delicious and authentic. The store itself makes me feel like we are in Japan. Yes they are expensive but it's worth it. If you buy often enough there is a loyalty program that gives a discount. I usually get the same thing (dorayaki) but I might even go for the super fancy white peach jelly desert some day. YOLO, right? Right on Market St and always busy. Enjoy the experience!

SUMMARY: Another benchmark establishment for me when it comes to Japanese desserts, esp. for mochi. Prices are steep, but you get what you pay for: the real deal mochi. INTERIOR: It sets the stage, let's put it that way. The interior exudes "high quality" is coming your way. DESSERTS: Having traveled to Japan a few times with my Japanese friends, I've had the good fortune to compare US quality and Japanese quality foods. While I'm no expert by any means, I do know that LA J-town mochi cannot hold a candle to Japanese (in Japan) mochi. I begrudgingly say this that this shop's mochi is as close as I've ever had to Japan-quality mochi. Because I'm a bit of a purist, I usually stick to the mochis that are not boxed but individually sold. While I'm not saying the boxed ones aren't as good, I've found the individually sold ones to be fresher and chewier. My faves are definitely the peach and green tea mochis, but I do like other things like the oribenishiki (bean cake). These little gem of a bean cake are truly fantastic: the pastry shell is moist yet a touch cake-y on the outside and the bean filling has this really nice semi-soft/hard consistency to it. The particular flavor I got one day was chestnut and it was truly out of this world. When I head down to LA and if I can swing it, I'll stop by this shop because my Japanese American friend's family loves this shop so I show my gratitude by bringing them some. RETURN VISIT? Only for special occasions as the price is not cheap, but not a bank breaker either. Just keep a mental tally and you'll be just fine :)

It is slightly intimidating to enter, but once entering it is welcoming. They will take orders by when the customers entered the store, so one might need to be patient if there are a lot of customers inside. I recommend the Japanese confectionary (wagashi) over the non-Japanese (ex: Baumkuchen) and jellies. I have tried the jellies, and although I haven't tried the Baumkuchen here, I would say the reason I return to the store is for the Japanese confectionaries. I loved the ones with anko (red bean or white bean) paste because the sweetness is very delicate and unlike the confectionaries in general Japanese stores. There is no lasting bite attack of the overwhelming sweetness, so throughout start to finish, the treat is very pleasant and goes very well with green tea. The fun part about visiting the store is that most of the confectionaries are seasonal, so every month there is something changed.

I have walked by this shop. They sell gourmet, international Japanese desserts. They are high end and well-crafted. They sell mochi and other things. I picked two items today that totaled $8.50 or so. I had the peach mochi and a chilled jello-y thing. It was fruity and really interesting. You can get some gifts here. They have shop in New York, London, Japan, etc. Fun times.

What a beautiful little shop. Too many sweets to process in one visit. All imported from Japan and each a little work of art, nearly too pretty to eat. I stopped in looking for souvenirs for my friends back home, and was treated to full tour of all the shop's offerings, including how well any of them would travel and how long they would keep. I picked a sampler gift set, a custom three-piece set of chocolate pancake cookies, and some chocolate, green tea and vanilla flavored waffle cookies to put in cat-shaped gift boxes. The boxes are purchased flat, and I was shown how to fold them into the adorable Maneki Neko shape. Such friendly, attentive and personal service, like shopping with your own confections concierge! The prices are a bit spendy, yes, but these edible artworks came a long way to be enjoyed by us stateside. Minamoto Kitchoan also has a rewards card you can sign up for that gives you $10 after you spend $100, which I found to be incredibly easy to do in this wonderland of sweets.

Customer service: A++ They are so so friendly and knowledgeable, and they're wrapping skills are so lit Sweets: A++++ So delicious, authentic, and the most amazing balance of earthy + sweet. Price: UMMM. Let's just say this is a very rare treat when I am feeling particularly bougie. It's very walkable on Market street-- located right off Montgomery Bart Station and a short walk away from Powell/Westfield Mall. If you're craving some authentic desserts from Japan, this is where you'll want to go. Beware-- you can drop some serious $$$ if you wanna get more than a piece though. Ya girl will always make sure to get them rewards points whenever I buy anything so I can treat myself in the very far future haha. Highly recommend the mochis-- both green tea, peach, and the current season strawberry ones. I also love the white bean treats-- so earthy and perfectly sweet.

I was so happy to come across this place on yelp randomly. I sometimes miss Japan and all of its wagashi and seeing that there's this wagashi shop that reminds me of all the omiyage places in Japan really makes me happy. Be forewarned, it's not cheap. If you want to buy something, most of the items are about $4 each, so yeah, it's a treat for once in a while or a present to get someone. I bought a lemon manju or sorts and another with red bean. They were both really tasty, although to be fair, I doubt they'd differ all that much from the other lemon manju and red bean manju that are sold. For the future, I already have it planned which ones I want to try including ones with chestnuts, the puddings, and probably more red bean, but only as treats when I'm missing Japan. I know I can find red bean treats in Chinatown, but when you want a little piece of Japan without going all the way to Japantown, this is it. If you want cute Japanese stuff or other types of treats, though, go to Japantown. This shop is all jellies and manju, all of the fancy looking omiyage treats that you see in Japan, and you should realize that before you come in or else you will freak about the prices.

The workers here are alway nice. They usually want to cater to the experience and the worker walks you though everything that they have. The mochi is on the pricier side but they are quite enjoyable. I recommend getting a few pieces for dessert. They also have seasonal items that comes and goes. The Sukara mochi was one of my favorites (it is a seasonal item though)

My friend and I stopped by Minamoto Kitchoan while exploring SF because Japanese sweets are amazing. When you walk into the shop you are welcomes by super sweet ladies who will help answer any of your questions. But there is one downside, the prices. Japanese desserts are a delicacy and look like pieces of art. Tasty art. My friend ended up buying a box of 6 Peach Mochi for about $12-13. Were they good? Yes! Would I go back to buy some? Maaaaybe. The mochi was super fresh. Very pillow-y and soft. The inside was a peach flavored cream. Quite sweet but a good white peach flavor. Check it out if you're in the area :)

I enjoy picking up a couple of yummy wagashi from this store whenever I'm in town. They do a great job delivering on freshness and quality, but their products are pretty pricey due to that. I love this shop for gifts as an alternative to chocolate!

Let me tell you. Their customer service is great! It's a little hard to get to since it's located in SF downtown. I would recommend taking public transit or ubering. The shop is pretty small, but the inside is well lit and there's enough room for a wheelchair to go through. Only problem would maybe be the heavy entrance door. Because girl's day is this weekend, they had the hinamatsuri dolls displayed. Very cute and it seems like they decorate the front with themes. They have waffle cookies to daifuku. They have seasonal flavors (right now they have Sakura mochi and cherry jelly). One thing I love about this place is that you can buy things individually or buy gifts sets. Gift sets are perfect for Christmas as well as something to give to someone and enjoy tea with. Honestly, the price you pay is what you can taste. Each of these wagashi is nicely crafted. Yes they are sweet, but that's what makes it so good to drink with green tea. You can always ask the workers for recommendations, but sometimes you just want to try them all! I don't think I can come here all the time, but when I'm in the area, I would like to purchase some to take back home for my parents to eat. This is also my to go place to purchase wagashi for holiday gifting.

Great selection of individually wrapped goodies and boxed sets and assortments. Friendly staff. I love dropping in every time I'm in the area.
