In Norway, cabins—or hytte—are an integral part of social culture. On any given Friday, you’re more likely to find Scandinavians sneaking off to these retreats than working late at their desks, and hytte are also a favorite place to spend long winter and summer holidays. At KABIN, we celebrate that draw to nature and good times among friends, creating an urban haven where New Yorkers can set their worries and schedules aside. At the same time, our “cabin” isn’t your run-of-the-mill log home. Inspired by the simplicity, natural materials and zen-like beauty of Nordic design, KABIN feels like a breath of fresh air in downtown Manhattan. From afterwork drinks and cozy nightcaps, to seasonal celebrations—like Midsommar or Santa Lucia—KABIN is a place you’ll run into close friends, and where even newcomers will be welcomed and cared for.
"If you're going to open a Nordic-inspired cocktail bar, then you better know what you're doing with aquavit. Kabin comes correct. The Hudson Square spot's signature drink, the Kolio, is like the blonde, blue-eyed Scandinavian cousin of a martini. It’s crisp, salty and herbaceous. With delicious small plates, like pickled mackerel and pan-fried fish cake, this antler-decorated space is a good early-date destination for anyone who likes their bar food topped with caviar—or who wants to telegraph to their companion that $20 for three Swedish meatballs is a price point they are perfectly comfortable with." - bryan kim, will hartman, willa moore, sonal shah, neha talreja, molly fitzpatrick
"For some Midsommar vibes (not the 2019 Ari Aster thriller, but the Nordic holiday), head to Kabin, a cocktail bar in Hudson Square. There’s aquavit all over the cocktail menu and $20 Swedish meatballs, but we’ve got our eyes on the Lillesand: a shaken gin and pisco drink with lingonberry." - will hartman
"If Rolf’s is where you go when you wish it were Christmas, then Kabin is where you go when you wish it were Midsommar. At this upscale Hudson Square cocktail bar—inspired by Nordic culture in general, and Norway in particular—you can debate the proper pronunciation of “hygge” with your date under free-standing wood rafters that suggest the countryside cabin of its name. There isn’t much else that’s rustic about Kabin, which makes enthusiastic use of antlers, branches, candles, and just about every shade of gray distinguishable to the human eye, but with an overall effect that's less gothic lair and more chic, business-class lounge at the Oslo airport. photo credit: Liz Clayman photo credit: Liz Clayman photo credit: Liz Clayman photo credit: Liz Clayman The crisp Kolio, Kabin’s signature aquavit cocktail, is salty and herbaceous: the blonde, blue-eyed Scandinavian cousin of a martini. Then there’s the tart and refreshing Lillesand, a ruby-red gin, pisco, and lingonberry spritz that comes with what we can best describe as a flavor stamp on the outside of the glass—a tart, sugary circle that reminds us a little of a scratch-and-sniff sticker.
