Halo Halo has got to be one of my favourite desserts. And the one served at Kabisera did not disappoint. Each bite was a different experience. But what took it to another level was the crispy toasted caramelized coconut flakes that they generously sprinkled on top. Absolutely loved it. And definitely want to return to try some of the other Filipino desserts.

No frills dining. We were there around 11am on a Sunday and it wasn’t busy at all. We ordered a latte with almond milk and the ginger latte (so delicious). For food, we got the tocilog & arroz caldo. Both were very delicious and tasted like home cooking. I only wished the egg yolks for the tocilog were runny. We got the sapin-sapin and bibingka to go. These were ok. The bibingka tasted more like a heavy pound cake. Service was good.

Google
The drinks, the sweets and service is great. They just opened a new location in Canal Street and they have a different selection of frozen drinks - the ube one is delicious. Staff is friendly and always very nice. We go there almost weekly.

I stumbled into this place walking around the area. This place has fabulous Filipino dessert! Love love love the Cassava cake!! I got a bunch of the dessert and they all tasted very yummy! They have some Filipino food too. They mini shop inside was awesome. They have outdoor seating with about 4 small tables. The service was friendly! The place was clean. I definitely recommend this place!

Emmanuel Malasaga

Google
This place is legit!!! Go in and ask for the “Emmanuel Combo”, but be prepared. This means that you’re ordering 1 of the desserts available which is the best way to experience this place. (Full disclosure- I made the “Emmanuel Combo” up, but please do it. I’m hoping they put it on the menu.) They have a lot of unique items for sale: jewelry, clothing and accessories that have Filipino design elements and patterns that are beautifully executed.

Google
A nice spot for small bites, drinks and desserts. I had the Ube latte and we tried their famous taho (Ube & Strawberry) as well. Everything was good and not too sweet, and prices were reasonable. Can’t wait to try the other goodies and drinks!

Google
I was in The Boiis Co in the Union Square christmas shop. I tried brown sugar torched mochi and hot milo with ube marshmallow. They were okay.

Google
I tried: Biko: sweet glutinous rice. It was extremely chewy kinda like a mixture of mochi and flan? The ube flavor was subtle but there. And the best part it wasnt that sweeet. This cafe has plenty of Filipino inspired desserts! The dessert I tried was unique for me and I would come back here to try other treats!!

Yelp
Feels like home! Warm, inviting, friendly, colorful glimpse into the Philippines. Can sense community and love in this restaurant. Was interested in buying a photo of a Manny Pacquaio tricycle and a lil Filipino gnome decoration and they said just to Venmo the contact on the tag - thought this was such a sweet, creative, supportive way that the restaurant supports other Filipino businesses. Tocilog 5/5 ~$13 -sweet, savory pork served with a big cup of garlic rice, 2 eggs, shrimpy salty tomato/cucumber salad and vinegar which makes for a hearty bfast Affordable too, which means its the perfect place to explore the many delicious cuisines!

Isabel W.

Yelp
Sapin sapin ($6): glutinous rice with ube, pandan, jackfruit, coconut milk topped with toasted coconut flakes. Maja Blanca ($6): corn starch, sweetcorn, coconut milk, condensed milk topped with toasted coconut flakes Definitely wanna try their food next time!

Yelp
The interior of Kabisera was athletically pleasing! We came on a Friday night and we were seated right away. The server was super nice. The front had more of a cafe vibe with their desserts displayed. The food here in pictures looks sooo delicious. I was excited to try the food. Everything was honestly disappointing. I felt like it either lacked flavor or it was just super super salty. It was annoying going back and forth to refill the water ourselves. I wished we were able to have a jug of water at the table. The dessert with the strawberry ice cream on top with mixed jellies was disappointing. The jellies tasted fine, but the base itself tasted like water.

Yelp
My husband had a coffee date with a friend and then a couple's lunch date at this cute and cozy Filipino spot on Allen Street. I ordered an ube latte, which seemed somewhat steep at $6.77 (including tax). But it did have the wonderful, slightly nutty taste of ube, as well as a perfect foam layer on top. For lunch we ordered the salmon sinigang and the kare-kare entrees (each $13). The salmon was cooked perfectly and so incredibly tender in the tart, clear broth. While some sinigang recipes include veggies in the soup, this was purely just fish and broth. The kare kare included pork in a peanut-based sauce. Both entrees came with rice, cucumbers, raw red onions, and sliced cabbage, while the kare-kare was also accompanied by a strong fish paste. Both dishes were very good, although portions were modest. For dessert we ordered the bibingka pastry, a Filipino rice cake. The taste of coconut was quite subtle, while the taste of butter was quite strong. I didn't know this until later, but apparently bibingka is closely associated with Christmas in the Philippines, which was apt for the time of year we were trying this pastry. It is often baked in banana leaves and topped with a bit of salted egg. I can't say that I discerned the salted egg, but I appreciated that this pastry wasn't too sweet. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our time at Kabisera, one of the few Filipino spots in the LES. We would definitely return to try other pastries and desserts.

Yelp
The reviews / photos on Yelp made us really excited to try Kabisera. It was en route from where we were to our apartment so we decided to make a stop there. There's a counter at the front that you can order from but if you want to sit down, they told us to just go ahead and find whatever table was available. There were quite a few options for desserts on their menu, but unfortunately, when the waiter came to place our order, we found out that the choices that we wanted were not available and only a few options were able to be ordered. We ended up getting an order of sapin-sapin and a caramel taho (we wanted the pandan but the caramel was the only flavor available). The sapin-sapin was yummy with nice flavors / chew. The taho was interesting, though the tapioca pearls had no chew (not sure if that's normal for this type of dessert?). I'm not sure if it is a common occurrence for not having most of the menu available or if it was just an off-day but if the former, it would certainly be helpful to have a board or something that lists out what's available so that we go in with the right expectations.

Yelp
Stopped by to get some work done. I got an iced matchube with oat milk. They didn't have regular milk when I came. The matchube had a strong ube flavor, not so much matcha. The ube wasn't an overly bright purple color, so it didn't seem like it was artificial. It wasn't too sweet and overfilled with ice. The color of the drink was so aesthetic before mixing too. Although there is free wifi and ample amount of outlets, I wouldn't come here to work again as the background music is blaring. However, it is a nice place to grab a drink or food.

Yelp
This review is a weird one for me to write. Bottom line is that the things that I tried here were alright, but I wouldn't call them authentically Filipino.....and I think this is somewhat intentional. Call me a gatekeeper, fine, but let me explain! Lol. Chicken adobo: the most tamest chicken adobo that I've had lol. Although the meat was very tender, the broth was watery and the flavors were very mellow (good, but very mellow). Not quite the in-your-face succulent soy sauce-y and vinegary chicken adobo made in a Filipino family's home. Hopia ube: delectably chewy (as hopia should be), but very little ube filling (barely tasted the ube at all). Sapin-sapin: I was expecting subtle ube and jackfruit flavors among the base glutinous rice and coconut flavors, but there were more things going on in it.....like flavors you'd find in halo-halo lol. Very desserty for sure. A little too sweet and gimmicky for me though. Pandan latte: it was like 15% pandan flavor with the rest of it being straight milk lol. So yeah, from what I've tried here, I get the overall impression that the menu items are prepared with the questioning theme "what would a person who has never tried Filipino cuisine might enjoy as an intro to said type of cuisine?" Playing it very safely, and I wouldn't necessarily call it completely a bad thing. At the time of my dining, there were other customers who were asking a bunch of questions about the menu making me assume that the menu was pretty foreign to them. I'm actually a NYC tourist so I'm not sure how strong the Filipino food/drink game is in the area. I guess the final verdict from me is that if you're like one of these people, then I say go right on ahead and check this place out. If you're accustomed to Filipino cuisine though, then you might end up leaving this place disappointed.

Elaine T.

Yelp
Cozy cafe with seating and outlets! I appreciate cafes that serve more than just the conventional coffee and pastry; Kabisera offers hard-to-find Filipino drinks and desserts, as well as meals for those looking for a lunch spot. I got the ube taho. This was my first time trying taho and although it was a little sweet for me, I really liked the combination of the melt-in-your-mouth silken tofu with the chewy tapioca balls. I also liked that the ube flavor was strong with actual bits of ube in the dessert. My friend got the flan and it was very rich and enjoyable, but I preferred the taho. Kabisera checks all the boxes for me, with good food and plenty of seating in a homey atmosphere. Will for sure be back!

Chris P.

Yelp
I've been hearing about this spot for awhile but I haven't had the time to venture out to the neighborhood to try this spot so when I saw they deliver via Uber Eats, it was a sign. I haven't had tocino is so long so I ordered the Tocino Nourish Bowl and their popular Pork Bun. The tocino from the bowl was so refreshing because I haven't had it for so long. The Pork Bun was also flavorful but would have tasted better if it was consumed fresh. There are other I'd definitely want to try and I'm grateful that there is a Filipino spot where I can order for delivery.

Gab G.

Yelp
Stopped in to try some treats. Unfortunately they didn't have ube drinks at the time (I was hoping to try the ube latte and ube slush), the pastries were great; I tried the Bibingka, Ube Biko and Ube hopia. They have a menu of savory food as well.

Benjamin Q.

Yelp
Keepin it real out here in Chinatown Kabisera is legendary at this point. Started out with 1 humble spot in LES now expanded to Canal St market. Staff are all amazing and they never miss when comes to the food. Authentic with some creative twists. Both the hot food and cold drinks are worth trying.

Em M.

Yelp
Their pastry selection. drinks, and events bring a little bit of home for the Filipino community, cannot recommend this place enough! I've visited Kabisera regularly for the past few years. I initially came for the tasty Ube Lattes and Filipino baked good, but stayed for all of the amazing community building work. I've always looked forward Filipino street food and art events held throughout the summer. My favorite of theirs is the bibingka -- an optional tip, call ahead and ask when the bibingka will be fresh out of the oven (it's totally worth it). Kabisera is more than just a cafe for the Filipino community, it's a cultural hub.

Jeny K.

Yelp
I found this cute spot while randomly looking to kill some time in the LES. I've been back a couple times after and would definitely be back again! The food is reasonably priced & gives off home vibes which is my absolute favorite. The first time I tried the bibingka & an iced ube latte. Another time I tried the tocilog. I can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu The staff is super nice & friendly Would I come back? For sure

Erin L.

Yelp
Careful, you might miss it! This place is tucked away in "hipster" East Village. Pay attention to the door and windows for this adorable Filipino cafe Finally, a place where I can eat some authentic Filipino desserts!! Pictured is leche flan, but I have tried their Biko - Sapin Sapin - Hopsin Ube.. all delicious! None too sweet, and great surprises for your non-Filipino friends I also want to note that this Iced Tea is FANTASTIC. Haven't tried anything else but I love how this iced tea is not so bitter or overly sweet like anywhere else you'll find Only reason for docking a star is I've been a couple times where this place is sold out on an item and some other items sound hit/miss. I don't think you can go wrong with the simpler stuff like those I mentioned ^ I also like how quaint it is - there are Filipino merch and groceries around; cashiers are super nice (I appreciate one of them chatting with me when I came alone). I think fellow Filipino-Americans will appreciate the ambiance of home and sweet living that Kabisera provides! I've already been a few times, but I'll keep coming back for sure!

Marina C.

Yelp
We might have come on an off day because after sitting down, they mentioned they didn't have ice so a lot of the desserts that we had wanted to try were no longer available. We ended up getting the taho (caramel flavor - which was the only one they had) and the sapin sapin. The taho was a hot dessert (sweet tofu). I enjoyed the sapin sapin which was a chewy, mochi dessert but the taho was not what I expected. I wish they had mentioned which items weren't available when we had sat down, so I'd recommend just checking to make sure before you order!

Hana S.

Yelp
I used to live in the area but since then have moved. Kabisera has grown in menu and location size over the last few years and it makes me so happy to see! The arroz caldo was so good, and they make wonderful lattes. I love how they support artists and other small businesses by selling books, jewelry and more in the store. Highly recommend you stop by, you can't go wrong w anything here :3

Burt C.

Yelp
Taho was delicious. We sat inside and ate, nice customer services

Niaz P.

Yelp
I absolutely loved the mocha I got from here! It was very flavorful and perfectly at the right sweetness. The wait time wasn't too long either. There's some seating inside and outside in case you want to sit down to enjoy!

Glenn C.

Yelp
This is a little spot selling a mix of desserts and regular Filipino grub. They also sell some local things as well as a small selection of Filipino groceries. The guy in front was nice. We stopped in with several people pretty late but most of the stuff was there outside of the ube ice cream. I was originally going to get the biko but then I noticed they had a creative take on one of my favorite Filipino desserts; Sapin-Sapin (or Sapin Sapin without the - as listed on the yelp menu for some reason.) Sapin-Sapin is a dessert consisting of rice flour, coconut milk, and sugar topped with latik or desiccated coconut flakes. They do it a bit more creatively with extra layers including jackfruit and ube. While not traditional, I liked the new layers as it added some more fruity flavors. The dessert is normally similar to Malaysian/Singaporean kue/kuih with the glutinous rice texture and coconut flavors but this is a nice twist. It is a lightly sweet dessert as expected and I liked it a lot. Another person had their taho. the Filipino equivalent to Chinese douhua. This is a tofu pudding with tapioca pearls and syrup. They were out of the ube syrup so the choices were chocolate or strawberry. They got the latter and enjoyed it. Good little spot. Would go back to try their normal food.

Karen L.

Yelp
Small store front but don't let that discourage you from coming in! This dessert spot is so cozy and the workers are some of the friendliest I've ever met! One of them saw me come in and look around at their merchandise and even said I could just stay and do work without buying anything but I told them I would of course buy something! In addition to food, they have lots of Filipinx-made merch here from another local small business, and even some Filipinx groceries for sale! The interior smells so good too. The music and ambience is so relaxing -- doing work here was very productive. I got the Ube Biko (coconut sticky rice) and Ube Latte and both were absolutely delicious. Not too sweet. :) 10/10 would recommend this cafe.

Fancypants X.

Yelp
Review #2400 In Tagalog, kabisera has a couple meanings: head of the dinner table & the capital city. In the Lower East Side, Kabisera is a charming Filipino cafe that serves both sweets & savories. Many Filipino desserts fall into the category called "kakanin" -- soft, sticky rice cakes. The two varieties we tried, Cassava & Biko, weren't too sweet & had that satisfying mochi-like consistency. We also shared Taho which is silken tofu & tapioca pearls in a brown sugar syrup. Served warm & super sweet, just the way it should be. $6 each. They were sold out of a few items we wanted to try so we'll be back for their Maja Blanca (my favorite!), Sapin Sapin, & Leche Flan. Sweetest cashier & cutest outdoor seating!

Kim X.

Yelp
I found this place on a food saving app called Too Good to Go, but I've not been able to come around that time. I came on a Saturday. The layout is such that upon entering, you pass a narrow space where the cashier is/ordering station is. Once you pass this, you see the seating area. They have a TV as well. We seated ourselves. There is no table service. I didn't order anything until we were on our way out. I was surprised that they didn't kick us out sooner as we sat for maybe 1.5 hours without ordering anything at all. It was too late in the afternoon to try the Ube latte. But I got the flan and cassava cake. We liked the flan better. I can't wait to come back to try the drinks and the hot food! I've not been to a Filipino convenience store before!

Elsa C.

Yelp
This is my first time trying Philippine style dessert and I love it! I personally like anything chewy haha So highly recommend Sapin sapin , and Biko!!

Kimberly W.

Yelp
Wow, just wow. I usually take week(s) to get to writing a review about a place I visited almost a month ago, but Kabisera was so delicious that I had to write a review the week I visited. The ice cream tasted so authentic and delicious. Their ube latte and matchaube latte was also amazing. I finished the ube latte so fast. It had little potato bits and tasted exactly like straight up ube, and I love ube. I think I'll be visiting next week to try their food. If the ube ice cream was that delicious and authentic, I can't image how mouthwatering their food would be! Excited!!

Rebecca Q.

Yelp
Great lunch spot! I came with my friend on a weekday so service was quick. My dish (I forget what it was called) was a little on the saltier side, but it was still very tasty. I also got a hopia ube...honestly a little dry. Overall, the portions were decent and I left feeling very satisfied.

Susan L.

Yelp
Came here with my cousins on a weekday afternoon and they finally added a outside dining. What I got; Ube Matcha Latte: 3.5/5- The matcha wasnt whisked well but plus one for the Ube. The Ube was tasty and complimented the matcha. However, I just wished that the matcha was whisked better. Overall; 3.5/5- I would come back here again to try their other pastries and coffees out.

Sharm S.

Yelp
What a gem on the LES! I got to meet the owner Augee and she's awesome. Then have their own brand of coffee and a nice selection of hot Filipino food and desserts! It reminds me of my childhood. Desserts were fresh, tasty and authentic. If you're craving Filipino food or need to try some this is the place to go! Please support your local businesses!

Neha I.

Yelp
Not many vegetarian options except the desserts. I liked the bibingka (ask for it fresh & warm) but wasn't a big fan of the taho (I got it in caramel flavor). The maja blanca was interesting in texture (jiggly and a little chewy) but what threw me off was that there was corn in it. Overall the desserts here are not at all too sweet so if that's what you like you'll be happy. Decorations inside the shop are cute but not too much space to sit.

James L.

Yelp
Stopped in here for some tocilog after watching a bunch of manila travel videos. - eggs came out perfectly runny - tocino was sweet and flavorful, served with apple cider vinegar(?) which added a nice acidic note - The plating on a banana leaf was beautiful as well

Wendy Y.

Yelp
I've been here once pre-Covid and one in the age of Covid, and both times I got the iced Ube latte here. You can really taste the Ube in the latte, and it just hit the spot with its mild sweetness and fresh yam flavor. At $7, it is a little pricey, but ube is an imported item and tends to be expensive. Up front is a display window where they have a rotating cast of Filipino pastries, including bibingka, ube haupia, and cassava cake. I was pretty full that day so I didn't indulge but they all look delicious. My friend and I just enjoyed our lattes in the outdoor seating area but we'll definitely be back to enjoy their savory meal options. I love how they offer traditional Filipino foods and how friendly the vibe here.

Heidi M.

Yelp
5 stars for the ube latte and overly friendly service! The staff here really live up to the warm Filipino stereotype - so easygoing and just so, so friendly. I'll come back for that alone. The ube latte ($7) had been on my list for so long and I finally tried it yesterday. WOW. It's freakin delicious. The price tag is a bit much but definitely worth the treat - it's a fairly big drink and quality is top notch. I also tried the Chicken Adobo Panini ($12.99) but that was just alright. A bit on the salty side for me and it was really ...wet. It also took them quite a while to make, but that was when their superior customer service came in to make the wait more pleasant. Even though I didn't get to try, I'm quite intrigued by their extensive food menu and authentic Filipino pastries available. Will need to check those out next time when I come back for the ube latte again!

Melissa M.

Yelp
Great spot for Filipino food and desserts in the lower east side ! The lumpia and ube latte were some of my favs!

Niko A.

Yelp
Was surprised to see a Filipino coffee place in the area and was so excited to try it as I don't often see many Filipino placees. Everything was generally alright but that's it, and for the prices you pay in the area (spent $50 on drinks and desserts) you would expect some quality, and some deliverance on the products. Especially because there's so few Filipino places you would expect them to actually be good but this place was giving just okay. The ube latte wasn't even a latte, just ube milk which was a bit of a disappointment cause there was no coffee or espresso taste at all in this, just milk with ube bits. Also, like half the menu was out which was a bit annoying to hear that they had none of the things we wanted to try in stock. The hopia and bibingka was good but wish we could have tried more.

Leah C.

Yelp
I can't really say the food was delicious. I'm not sure how they have so many good reviews regarding their food. Total turn off and would never bring a filipino or non filipino friend here to get a taste of the Philippines. Gave them 3 chances, and each time, it was disappointing.

Luis G.

Yelp
My cousin chose this place and it really caught my eye because it's a Filipino restaurant in NYC and you don't really see many Filipino shops in NYC. What I really liked was the ambiance, it reminded me of the Philippines and how it's a restaurant that has an entrance like you would see in the stores in the Philippines. The service was good, the people were friendly and it was nice. The food was great, I got the adobong manok (chicken adobo) and the flavors just blended so well it was too strong with the vinegar nor was it too salty with the soy sauce. I also had the lumpia and it was crunchy but very tasty. Masarap talaga!

Meaghan G.

Yelp
Kabisera is a cozy cafe that sells Filipino desserts/drinks along with full meals and specialty pantry items. My party only tried the desserts and drinks. We ordered a pandan latte, ube taho, assorted desserts (sapin sapin, leche flan, and ube biko). Loved the flavors! Most of the desserts were very chewy (mochi-like), but I liked that a lot. In addition, the waiter was really friendly and informative.

Marc P.

Yelp
Good, solid Filipino food here! Filipino cuisine has been popping up all over lately and this place represents well!

Charlene W.

Yelp
Kabisera is a Filipino cafe in LES with amazing food & drinks, and I loved trying them all for the first time! Leche Flan Taho: sweet hot silken tofu Maja Blanca: coconut pudding Biko: sweet glutinous rice Bibingka: spongy holiday rice cake Cassava Cake Housemade Ube Latte UPCOMING: Stop by Jan 15-16, 2022 for @barkadamarketmarket 11am-7pm to shop & support local Filipino small businesses

Garima G.

Yelp
I stopped by here on a rainy afternoon. They have tons of Filipino dessert and also coffee/tea. I had never tried these desserts before so I was excited! I tried Biko: sweet glutinous rice. It was extremely chewy kinda like a mixture of mochi and flan? The ube flavor was subtle but there. And the best part it was that sweeet.

Irene L.

Yelp
This spot have very unique and delicious desserts. Each dessert I ordered cost $6 each. I had the biko which is glutinous rice and ube and Bibingka which is a Filipino baked rice cake with a spongecake-like textured, wrapped in a banana leaf sprinkled with coconut flakes. The Biko is small in size and it is so good. It's cold and the glutinous rice was not too sweet. I ate it in two bites. Bibingka has a good weight to it and great to share. It's filling and goes great with coffee.

Chrissy R.

Yelp
Adorable cafe w solid coffee, pastries and savory foods - both Filipino and traditional cafe fare. Walked by before and was drawn to the 90's hip hop blaring and picked up some cassava cake (fresh cassava, coconut and milk) and their famous ube pan de sal (purple yam bread roll w cheese inside). Enjoyed this and came back today for "dunch" - got the ube rice bowl (no tofu so I got eggs, veggies, pickled radish, purple yam rice, and coconut). Delicious, fresh and filling! Also got a jar of homemade fresh chili sauce to go too (they have mild, medium and hot!). They also opened an Asian/Filipino mart next door where I got some organic (yay!) udon noodles for home. Will be back to try Filipino / tropical ice creams and more goodies. Outdoor seating is also available. Salamat / thanks!

Singapore L.

Yelp
I love Kabisera! It's a wonderful place to sit down and work with your computer alongside a Filipino-American family vibe (presumed owners or managers on premises with kid/s). They have a surplus of treats and coffee drinks as well as sides and fuller dishes. A splendid place to bring friends or fam with the cutest outdoor spot too.

Allen T.

Yelp
This seems like a family run restaurant. Came here with friends to try the famous Filipino Halo-Halo dessert. As people know, there are several types of "Shaved" ice. One is super smooth shaved ice while another type of shaved ice is like little crumbles. This is the latter. The shaved ice is similar to other Asian shaved ices. The shaved ice had condensed milk, lychee, some herbal jelly, red bean, and ice cream. Unfortunately they had run out of the Ube ice cream which I had really want to try and they only had vanilla.

Mendy Y.

Yelp
Cute cafe that is narrow but long so there are quite a few seats inside. Ube latte is a must! Very friendly service. Variety of desserts and I saw there are also hot food options.

Carrie C.

Yelp
What a cute Filipino spot with savory goods, pastries, other baked goods, ice-cream, coffee based and other health beverages. Indoor dining is not currently available but there's an heated outdoor area for you and friends to enjoy your goods. The staff here is so friendly, sweet and kind. Thank you Eugene! Cant wait to be back to try more items on their menu.

Wei P.

Yelp
Great portions and desserts. Would recommend going a little later since I went to get lunch and most things were not yet ready.

Julia M.

Yelp
So it's a Cafe with a rustic, no frills- ambience. They serve lunch type food and most importantly- Filipino desserts that were delicious. The star of the show is the oat milk ube latte- smooth, flavorful with just the right amount of sweetness. I got a selection of desserts: Bibingka with ube- a light pound cake like pastry with ube and cheese (lightly sweet with a tiny hint of cheddar). Ube Biko - sweet glutinous rice confection with ube. Cassava cake- kind of like a cross between gooey coconut, mochi and flan (it sounds weird but I promise it works).

Nancy H.

Yelp
I came here a few months ago and tried their iced ube latte! I remember it was a pretty hot day and there was only one woman working behind the counter with no AC :c She was so nice and made our drinks super quickly though. We got two iced ube lattes - one with oat milk and one with regular. They were slightly sweet with a strong ube flavor. I think they used some sort of paste - there were bits of ube in the drink! Loveeee it.

Joseph C.

Yelp
If you're in the Lower East Side and craving Filipino food, Kabisera is a great option as they have a wide variety of savory dishes, sweets, and drinks that will remind you of the Philippines. At first glance, the place may look small and inconspicuous, but looks are deceiving as the food here is hearty and very delicious. I ended up getting a rice combo with pork tocino and sinigang. Initially, I did not know what tocino or sinigang were, but fortunately, the staff was patient and willing to explain what each item on the menu was and he sure did make the tocino and singang sound appetizing. I opted for the pork tocino, which is a cured meat typically eaten in the Philippines. The pork tocino is a meat usually cured with sugar, salt, garlic, and pepper, which makes a lot of sense after tasting it as the pork was sweet and savory. Each piece was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. In a sense, it reminds me a bit of bacon, but more like Cantonese BBQ pork (char siu). Regardless, it was so good and paired nicely with the rice. On the other hand, the sinigang is a soup native to the Philippines and this had to be my favorite item as the soup was super savory and also a bit sour. Sinigang can contain a lot of things, but one of the main components is the tamarind fruit. There are also pork or beef bones in the broth as well, which gives the soup a lot of umami flavor. When I took my first sip, I was in awe of how good it was as the soup was hearty and so flavorful. I could have downed the whole thing at once, but I made sure to savor it as well as add some rice to it, so that I can scoop up more of that savory goodness. The only thing that would've made the sinigang and tocino better would have been some garlic fried rice, but they were out of that unfortunately by late afternoon. I also did try their well-known ube latte and it was fantastic. It was not too sweet and you can taste the actual ube chunks inside of the latte, so you know that they are not using any of the powdered stuff. The drink was overall really refreshing and served as a nice end to a fantastic meal. They do have other desserts, but that just means I need to make another trip and hopefully that's soon! Kabisera has a variety of Filipino food that serves as comfort for those with Filipino ancestry in their veins. However, it is also a great introduction for those not familiar with Filipino food as well as the staff make sure you know what everything is before ordering. You definitely get a taste of the Philippines here and you'll be leaving happy and satisfied!

Yelp
Passed by on my way to Chinatown and decided to come for a breakfast. I got the ube latte and cassava cake. The ube latte was so delicious! Substituted for almond milk and it did not take away the creaminess. The drink was not overly sweet and you can taste the real ube in there. I've not tried a lot of Philippino desserts but the cassava cake was truly an experience of different textures - a layer of baked egg on top, sticky and gelatinous bottom with shredded coconut mixed in. Flavor-wise, it tasted subtly eggy and coconutty
