I went to Kabooski Sushi for my birthday, and while the ambiance was modern and cute, the experience was disappointing. I chose the restaurant based on the menu and reviews, but I couldn't get any of the three items I came for. I was excited to try the Matcha Espresso Martini, but despite having the ingredients, they wouldn't make it because their bar lounge was closed and they only offer it on the lounge side of the restaurant. The cocktails I did try were okay (Princess Lychee was decent but I wasn't a fan of sun kissed ), but none were strong; I had three drinks at the restaurant and 2 tequila shots prior to arriving and still want able to keep a buzz.
They were also out of several food items, including the karaage and a sweet potato dish, despite our 7:30 PM reservation and them opening 2 hours prior. The Maguro Truffle was popular but only a 7/10 for me since I'm not a fan of raw sushi. On the bright side, the Coconut Udon and A3 Wagyu were excellent, and my family loved the Sticky Ribs and Ginger Salad. However, I didn't get the full birthday experience I was hoping for. I did enjoy a complimentary sampler with the Ube Cheesecake, which I had planned to ordering anyway.
Overall, Kabooski is a cute spot with decent food and drinks, but they run out of inventory early, the cocktails aren't strong, and there aren't many cooked options or kid friendly items. While our server was nice, I wish she had advocated more for accommodating missing items. Personally, I probably would try out a different restaurant in the future. For my family of four, including a preteen, we ordered five cocktails priced around $20 each, along with several random menu items. While I didn't see the final bill, I'm certain we could have spent the same amount, if not less, at a restaurant that offered a more satisfying experience.
