The Most Underrated Restaurants in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"Kabul’s location on 45th Street makes it easy to notice on the way to I-5 and then forget about in the ensuing mind-numbing traffic. But this intrepid spot has been serving as Seattle’s only Afghan restaurant for over 30 years, with a concise menu of Afghanistan’s quintessential dishes. Ashak is a standout; scallion and cilantro-filled pasta dumplings are topped with rich turmeric-coriander minced beef and generously crisscrossed with bright tomato and mint-yogurt sauces. There are also a variety of enticingly aromatic stews, each served with kabuli aalaw, a saffron rice pilaf dish studded with carrots and raisins. All entrees are available in vegetarian form. –Mark DeJoy" - Eater Staff

The Best Restaurants in Wallingford | Eater Seattle

"This decades-old family-run restaurant is one of the few places in Seattle serving Afghan cuisine. Stop by for snacks like the bolani (potato-stuffed fried flatbreads) and bright, yogurt-heavy dips served with bread, or enjoy racks of lamb and kebabs served with rice for something more filling." - Jade Yamazaki Stewart

We love Kabul!!! We've been there so many times and have become such a loyal foodie there! I would recommend Bolani for an appetizer. It's so crisp and filled with potatoes! If it's your first time, I would recommend their combination kebab. It comes with all kinds of meats, and their meats are tasty and easy to chew! Lamb is definitely my favorite ❤️ And it's a very lovely, clean, warming spot for dating as well!

Google
What a hidden gem!! So yummy!! We got the murgh kebab, it was so juicy and the rice paired below it went so well. It comes with a side of eggplant dipped in a tomato and yoghurt sauce that is amazing!! We got the Ash appetizer as well. Highly recommend, it was full of flavor but still light. We split all items between my husband and I and it was the perfect amount of food. The vibe is lovely. So clean and you can see the care taken by the owners. I will be back!!

The Eggplant (Bandenjan Borani) was really good and so was Dogh( refreshing drink with yogurt, salt and mint). Overall it was good dining experience.

Google
We loved our dinner at Kabul! It was the best restaurant meal we had during our trip to Seattle. We had the eggplant dish and a lamb kebab. Both were delicious. We had baklava for dessert and we got lucky- it had just been made fresh. Best baklava we’ve ever tried. The service was wonderful and very friendly. 10/10 - We can’t wait to come back!

Google
I would’ve given them more than 5 star if it was possible! The food was spectacular, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was amazing. Highly recommend, it’s a must-try!

I really like this restaurant. And it is good for going with friends or family. Their food is great and their service is even greater. All the staff have always been so nice and knowledgeable. You get to experience interesting taste mixtures.

Kabuli pulao was good, meat was flavorful. We ordered the Kabuli pulao served with 2 meat skewers and two small desserts (rice pudding) that came after..this was apparently serving for two and costed $95. We were excited to try this restaurant but service was terrible. Our server was nice but she did not check on us even once after bringing our food. I found a long black hair buried in the rice; we hadn’t even take the first bite! it was gross so I look up and our server was not making eye contact and instead she brings her food and starts eating on a table nearby! So we’re just sitting and waiting but no other server is checking on us and the owner was standing on the table right next to us the whole time, and wouldn’t stop talking to the people on that table. he Kept on talking loudly and not caring about other customers. Finally after some time , we get noticed, I tell the owner about the issue, he then goes back to kitchen bringing us another plate of rice. Cool. Human error, life goes on. So now as we’re getting ready to eat, owner tells us no-one has black hair so we don’t know how it got here, implying that it was ours. I got frustrated and I told him, it’s not ours either. After that, the staff kept ignoring us, didn't check on us, we had to flag them down to get us dessert and check. Botton line is food was OK, service definitely needs work. I will avoid this restaurant due to extremely poor service.

Update: One year later, we revisited Kabul Afghan Cuisine and it was even better than we remembered! Host was friendly and attentive. We had to order the Badenjan Borani (eggplant) again and tried the Quorma Mushrooms and Qorma-I Tarkari. So many different delicious flavors. One of our favorite Seattle restaurants.

Yelp
Mohammed was great and seemed particularly genuine/honest, dissuading us (in Ballard, over the weekend) from repairs that seem the result of poor diagnosis on our end. We're not yet in a position to evaluate work done, but hope to in the not too distant future.

Yelp
An amazing spot for a date or solo date! The service staff is so kind, and was happy to give me recommendations. I could really feel the Afghan hospitality! My waitress recommended the ash and bolani for starters and ashak or murgh kebab for mains. I had the bolani and ashak. The bolani was crispier than I am used to, but it was nice! I like the addition of the green onions in the filling! The ashak was also nice, it tasted like pasta, so a good thing to try if you are not really in the mood for too much meat. However, the kebabs and pulao looked very tempting from what I saw! The dessert menu looked really good as well! Unfortunately I was too full, but I'll definitely come back for the firni!!

Yelp
This is one of the best restaurants in Seattle. It's hard to find Afghan food let alone great afghan food. Kabul blends fine dining with afghan classics, all with the highest quality organic fresh ingredients. It's an iconic Fremont establishment with an awesome owner who cares deeply about the food he serves as well as representing Afghan culture. Afghanistan has some of the best food that blends several different central and south Asian cuisines, and it's a rare experience to get such a high quality example of what the cuisine has to offer!!! What's better than a restaurant that's both delicious and culturally important!

Yelp
I've never had afghan food before this and now I am SOLD!! I didn't realize some of my favorite flavors (coriander, saffron, pistachio, dill, etc.) and textures (filo dough, cooked eggplant, yummy dips, etc.) were cornerstones of the cuisine, and now that I do there's no turning back. Service was speedy and kind, food came out quick! Very local/small business feel, they had a live musician playing a traditional instrument (sarod I think?) and the owner was so friendly and I could see clear community/relationships happening the whole time we were there. Everything we got was SO GOOD. The flavors and textures were truly 10/10. The cardamom tea was a special treat, and the firni dessert was the perfect close to a stellar meal.

Yelp
If you're craving authentic and absolutely phenomenal Afghan food, this is the place to come to! Great, ambience, decor, friendly staff, and delicious food is what you'll get to experience here. We started out meal with the mushroom qorma which came with a warm pita bread. We then ordered the kabuli palaw with lamb and the seekh kebob with kabuli palaw. Both dishes also came with a side salad which was fresh and flavorful. The service was phenomenal and the portion sizes were also great. It was a night of true comfort food that was perfect with the chilly Seattle weather in October. I can't wait to come back here again, and to try some of their other dishes!

Yelp
Phenomenal food- every time I come to Seattle, I have to stop here. Perfectly cooked meats and lots of lovely vegetarian options. One of my favorite restaurants in the country.

Yelp
Kabul Afghan Cuisine has been recommended by a friend as one of the tastiest places in Seattle that she has been to - I personally have never tried Afghan cuisine before, so I was definitely looking for opportunities to swing by to try this interesting cuisine! We went on a Wednesday around 7pm and were seated promptly. The ambience of the restaurant does feel very homely, with pictures and art of Afghan landscapes, architecture, and culture. Tables are laid out with candles and lights are dimly lit, and service is responsive and fast. Food came out in a reasonable time, but it was also given that it wasn't really busy that night. I was surprise that we were able to get a table with a reservation so easily, so that was a plus. Since this was a nice restaurant we wanted an opportunity to try as much variety as possible, so our waitress recommended the Combination Kebab for two ($80) - we decided to go that route as it looked very enticing! I'll review the items we got down below: Ash: This is a delicious bowl of soup! I loved the flavor profile as you could really taste the herbs - there is a certain richness from how thick the soup was that I enjoyed. There was a decent amount of chickpeas and kidney beans in the soup, and both were tender. Badenjan Borani: A delicious eggplant portion - the eggplant is very soft and covered in a good amount of tomato sauce and spices. What I liked about this dish is that it pairs nicely with the kebab, as the creaminess of the yogurt sauce and acidity of the tomato complements the meatiness of the kebab. Beef and Chicken Kebab Combo: These are hearty chunks of meat! There is a decent blend of chew and tenderness through each chunk, and you can subtlety taste the spices and marinade. It is a decent portion of kebab given, and when paired with the Salata and Kabuli Palaw, this is a good amount of food that will definitely leave you satisfied. The Kabuli Palaw rice dish was delicious! I could definitely eat a whole plate of the rice itself - you can taste the coriander and cumin, and the raisins and nuts give it a pleasing texture. The Salata was alright, it was mostly just cucumbers, tomatoes, and onions in a small bowl - it did serve as a palate cleanser, but I would say this was my least favorite of the experience. I loved that they gave you a good tasting option for the variety of Afghan dishes that they serve where. Firni: Yum! This is a decadent dessert was really creamy and had hint of rosewater. Wasn't too heavy, and had a light airy nature to it. I would say this is a solid end to the experience! In the end, we spent about $105 for this meal. It does lean a bit on the pricier side for two people, but the service was nice, and it is a really good tasting menu if you haven't had Afghan Cuisine before! I would definitely like to revisit in the future to try the other options that Kabul has to offer.

Yelp
We've been here a couple of times and really like the food. I would recommend the Murgh/Chicken rice plate and the fish qorma. Service was quick and they have live music on certain days during the week. Their desserts are good too.

Yelp
We came here before heading to Sea Monster for a show. I'd never had Afghan cuisine. I'm so glad we tried something new because it was great. Service was wonderful too. Everyone was friendly and helpful. I had Badenjan Borani and I'm a big fan of eggplant so I wasn't surprised to like it. But my partner is not an eggplant fan and even he said it was good. The Kabuli Palaw (famous rice) was amazing. So good. We'll be back!

Yelp
Amazing food, the best meal I've had in a while. The chicken was perfect, the eggplant was incredible (I don't even like eggplant), the sauces were fresh, the tea was perfect. Do yourself a favor and have a meal here with a friend.

Yelp
I ordered from Uber Eats. The meal came in a reusable green cloth bag - cute! This was my first time eating Afghani food, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I had the badenjan borani, a spectacularly tender roasted eggplant dish wish surprisingly tasty basmati rice. It wasn't spicy, but very flavorful. I could happily eat it every day. That came with a small cucumber salad, which provided a nice flavor contrast. I also ordered the firmi, a small dessert custard flavored by cardamom, rosewater, and pistachio. It made a lovely end to the meal. The entree cost $24, so this isn't a cheap meal, but I think I'll be using my 40% off UberEats promos here!

Yelp
I just finished dinner at Kabul, and it was without question one of the loveliest meals I've had in a long time. The service was excellent, friendly, warm, and genuine, but not pushy or overly friendly either. The food was even better, perfectly cooked, great portions (good for sharing/family style) good recommendations from staff. Our dessert, a rose water cardamom custard was incredible! There needs to be more hype about kabul, good place to bring parents or friends form out of town, date nights, or a group of friends looking for dinner and good conversation. Please try!

Yelp
A great spot for Afghani cuisine nestled right into the heart of Wallingford -- we stopped my for a friend's birthday dinner and had a lovely time. They were accommodating of our larger group, as well as a last-minute addition of extra people. The waters are super helpful and also so sweet -- since most of us haven't tried Afghan food before, they walked us through the menu and checked in on us during the meal! The ambiance was perfect for a group dinner. All of the food we got was SO GOOD -- special shoutouts to the Mushroom Quorma and Dogh, which were personal favorites. The Quorma was SO flavorful and the Dogh was refreshing. I loved the way the eggplant was prepared for the Badenjan Borani as well. Overall, a great experience and I'd definitely recommend!

Yelp
Their food delivers a punch and service is just so wonderful! Looks like this place is a family run business as everyone is so warm and takes interest in keeping their guests happy. Visited this place on a very warm day. Although they have an air-conditioning unit, it was pretty hot inside. Looks like the unit wasn't working. The food was lovely and delicious. I'll keep coming back to eat the kabuli pulao. Every grain of the river was separate and tossed in herbs and raisins. Yum! The eggplant dish - beautiful. Loved the garlic yogurt sauce. My favorite was the ashak, which is these light dumplings in tomato and garlic yogurt sauce. Never ever have I had such tasty dumplings. And oh, if you get their hot sauce make sure you go easy coz it's very hot! Sand this is coming from someone who loves spicy food. My only complaint is that I wish there was a protein for vegetarians. In this day and age when there are so many options in the market like seitan, tofu etc, or actually even using more native protein sources like chickpeas, lentils etc, it would be good for them to experiment and incorporate that. From a price perspective, the dishes were a tad too expensive without a vegetarian protein. Eg the eggplant dish was only $2 cheaper by omitting the beef. Hmm...

Yelp
I don't know anyone who has been to this place or talked about going here. I would just drive by or walk by this place so I was intrigued. They were only doing takeout during the pandemic but they're finally open for dine-in! The servers were so helpful. I haven't had Afghan food before, though I know it has similarities with other cuisines, so I asked for recommendations. The soup, Ash, is so different from anything I have ever had. It was packed with flavor but it wasn't too strong and it tasted so healthy! The turnovers, Bolani, was also new to us. The yogurt dip was so creamy that we asked for another small cup of the dip for the other dishes. The rice, the kebab, and the eggplant were super delish. My bf hates eggplants and he loved the eggplant dish! We left completely full and satisfied and we'd definitely be back!

Yelp
The food is plain and nothing to write home about. I would not waste a dinner opportunity at this place.

Yelp
Highly recommend Kabul Afghan for the food and service. Food: A true 5/5! This was my first experience at an Afghan restaurant, so I have no benchmark for how the cuisine flavors vary. I shared the Combination Kebab for Two (5/5). We enjoyed the Ash (soup), followed by the main course of salata (vegetable salad), Badenjan Borani (eggplant), Palaw (basmati rice) and African bread. All were lovely and highlighted the flavors mentioned in the menu. The borani was notable for its creamy, soft texture, though the seeds and skin had a strikingly bitter aftertaste. The palaw was notably well balanced, and I loved the contrast between the savory rice and sweet raisins. The Bara kebab (lamb) was tender and well seasoned - I could clearly taste the brightness of the garlic, lemon, and spices. But the SEEKH KEBAB (beef) absolutely stole the show! The marinade on the meat pops, and it's cooked to a perfect medium rare, finished with a slightly crispy sear. Do yourself a favor and get the Seekh Kebab, people! Service: 4.5/5. Since we went at 7:30 pm on a Friday, the wait times were long. That said, the host clearly took the initiative to have us seated as soon as he could. We waited about 30 mins between the Ash (the first course) and our main course. This wait felt like a while and greatly extended our experience. On the other hand, the waiter was charming, attentive, contentious, and checked on us multiple times throughout the meal. The food and service was worth the wait.

Yelp
Cute little spot I met with my friends at for dinner. This was my first time eating Afghan food so not really sure how it compares but the food was amazinggggg. Next time I'll ask them to omit the raisins in the rice but other than that, very tasty!

Amanda N.

Yelp
Good food, service was great, clean! No much parking but that is for all the places around here. I would go back.

Yelp
Good Afgani food in the Seattle area that must be tried. The place is not very well known but we live almost every dish there. Tried the bolani as an appetizer and shared afghani pulao with Lamb as mains. We were still hungry for dessert so tried baklava and pistachio ice cream. Everything was good minus the pistachio ice cream which was a little low on sugar, I normally like desserts with less sugar but this one was way too low.

Yelp
It doesn't look particularly special from the outside but it is a gem. We enjoyed dinner on Friday night- full house but not crowded or too loud. Was a nice dinner & able to enjoy conversation with friends as well. I am not an expert on afghan cuisine but can't imagine anyone does it better. They've been in business for over 30 years & owner is delightful.

Yelp
Finally tried Kabul Afghan Cuisine on a Friday evening for dinner. The restaurant wasnt as busy as I expected it to be (thankfully) and we were seated promptly. We ordered trhe following items from their menu: 1. Drink: Dogh (yoghurt based drink with mint and afghani spices) deliciously refreshing summer drink 2. Bara Kebab with a side of Badenjan Borani: Perfectly spiced marinated pieces of lamb cooked to perfection served with a bed of pulaw, salata (afghani salad) and Badenjan Borani (a slice of eggplant marinated with a tomato based sauce and garnished with yoghurt dressing) . There was not a single item in this dish that we did not love. Every item was flavorful and tasted deliciously fresh. The lamb would melt in your mouth and the spices were phenomenal. Even if one does not like eggplant give their Badenjan Borani a chance it will blow your mind. Their pulaw (comes with raisins) was also very flavorful and complimented the meal very well. Outstanding. 3. Rack of Lamb with a side of Badenjan Borani: This dish was amazing too. Very similar to Bara kebab just that the kebab is not bone in while this one is. The spices and flavors are very similar. The meat was cooked beautifully and we devoured the flavors in every bite. This dish was also perfectly complimented by pulaw on the side, salata and badenjan borani. Outstanding. 4. Chocolate Mousse: Believe me you will not regret having this dessert. It will blow your mind. One of the best chocolate mousse's i have had in my life with a hint of grand marnier. Deliciousness in every bite. 5. Firni: A milk based dessert with cardamom pistachio and stuff which tasted amazing and i must say I have never tasted such deliciously made firni ever before. I did not expect the firni to give the chocolate mousse a tough competition (I am a chocolate lover) hence we ordered both and devoured one spoon at a time Now this restaurant does have a few forgiveable pain points just cos the quality of food is amazing. The wait time is alot. We waited for 45 mins for our food to arive and until then were sipping dogh and water. But when the food arrived, we could taste the freshness and we gobbled it all in 15mins it was that good. The price point is certainly high for a non-fine dining restaurant. For example, an entree of badenjan borani comes with 3 pieces of eggplant is for $22. The rack of lamb is $38 and bara kebab with a side of badenjan borani is for $30. The chocolate mousse was $15. The quantity is good but price point is definitely a tad on the higher side. But like I said all of this is easily forgiveable for the deliciousness they serve I would not mind the wait or the price. Service was fantastic All in all I highly recommend folks to try Kabul Afghan and the afghani cuisine. I am a fan and will crave to come back soon. Highly recommend giving them a try.

Yelp
My favorite little restaurant. I love this place so much! The food is amazing, their tea is amazing, their chocolate mousse was the best! The wait staff and management were always professional and kind. It's a quiet and quaint little spot and the ambiance is perfect!

Yelp
Been here twice and experienced two 5 star experiences each time. THE SERVICE SETS THE MOOD. The servers are incredibly helpful and do a great job of walking you through the menu, providing suggestions, and checking in throughout your meal. During the week the place was a little quieter with mostly to-go orders. We also visited a Saturday at 7 and the place was packed full. Both times the owner was there and stopped to chat with us about his foods and flavors. He even went to get us a special cilantro sauce he thought we'd appreciate with our meal. You can tell he has so much passion for food and the people he's serving. THE FOOD WILL LIGHT UP YOUR TASTE BUDS. Where to start. We've been so impressed by the food here. The wine. The appetizers. The mains (including the impressive vegetarian selection). The desserts. Heck, the rice (palaw) and cucumber salad alone will knock your socks off. Everything has such an amazing blend of spices with a deep flavor while being so fresh and balanced. I highly highly recommend asking your server for their recommendation. Put your trust in their hands and you will not be disappointed. Our last visit, we brought others with us and they were just as impressed. If you eat here, I'm sure you'll be back.

Yelp
Authentic, delicious, and incredibly friendly staff - welcomed us at the door and made my partner and I feel very comfortable throughout the meal, along with supplying us with delicious food. Nice, small, cozy feel that was a perfect ambiance for a date night and really left both of us feeling very happy about the night.

Yelp
We drive all over Fremont and Wallingford looking for a restaurant. I had been craving the avgolemono from Kostas Opa, but they closed for the summer. Who does that? We were resigned to having hot dogs when we found this amazing Afghani restaurant. Every bite we took it was like OMG this is the best fill in the blank we have ever had! We had the eggplant appetizer with something like pita bread, only better. It was so good, we ordered more to take home. I wanted to lick my plate it was so good. Then we had a kabob plate. My favorite thing on the plate was the rice. Best rice I've ever had! We took some of that home, too. And their garlic sauce is off the hook! We tried this custard dessert that is just heavenly! It has cardamom and rosewater in it, two of my favorite things. And the family that runs the place is just lovely. Be sure to read the history of Kabul cuisine on the back of the menu. Super interesting! It's so great to have an Afghani restaurant only an hour from our house.

Sarni F.

Yelp
Amazing cuisine and great service. You can smell the food from blocks away and it is very enticing. Warm atmosphere that feels private even though it is on a somewhat busy street. The only problem is that it is somewhat hard to find parking for this restaurant, but its worth a little walk and its in a nice neighborhood so its really no trouble, but having designated parking somewhere would be nice.

Yelp
Kayla helped us out today when they first opened. She gave us the full run down of the menu and all the popular items since it was our first time eating here and first time trying Afghani food. The entire meal was delicious and we would highly recommend this place. We will definitely be back and tell our friends about Kabul. The rice and meat are absolutely delicious.

V. B.

Yelp
I have wanted to try this place for years. We finally stopped and had dinner. So glad we did! This was a great experience. The food was delicious, the staff was friendly and attentive, and the place was spotless. The owner stopped by our table to see if we were happy with our meal. I love supporting a family run business. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
This is for sure one of the best as afghan cusines I have ever tried . The food stays really faithful to the roots. The service is excellent and makes the experience very pleasant

Yelp
I love this place, it has a cozy vibe. I'd never had Afghan food so the descriptions on the menu were great. I loved the food and service.

Yelp
The food is excellent! Small restaurant but great service and atmosphere. I highly recommend. We loved everything we ordered!

Yelp
This place has the best food I've ever eaten. And I'm being dead serious too- literally EVERYTHING about it is perfect, every time! Plus, the restaurant experience itself is really cool, the owner often stops by tables and chats a bit. Not in a rude intrusive way though, just checking to make sure we're enjoying the food and whatnot. Super sweet

Yelp
Love this place!!! Food is so delicious I cant get over it. Boyfriend and I decided to order takeout to try since we live really close and I'm thankful we did. We ordered the kebab combo for two which was a tad pricey but had a lot to try. We got the chicken and beef kebabs which came with a big side of rice, eggplant, soups for both of us, vegetables for both of us, bread and two deserts. Lots of food and if was all delicious! Will be making an effort to dine in one of these days

Yelp
Setting: We did take out because of COVID. Picking up the food was super easy as they had a side window dedicated to picking up food. Food: We had the Badenjan Borani and the Murgh Kabab with the Badenjan Borani side. Both dishes were phenomenal. The eggplant was perfectly cooked and the chicken was flavorful and tender. Thankfully the chicken was not dry. The rice also tasted amazing in addition to the pickled sides that they give. Value: This place feels overpriced, with each dish being about $20-$30. We ended up paying $50 for two people. Our favorite Afghan place in Fremont, CA charges $13.99 for the Badenjan Borani and $14.99 for the Murgh Kabab with similar quality and higher quantity. With that being said, there is not a lot of Afghan food in Seattle compared to Fremont. Service: The staff were very pleasant, professional and kind. They took COVID precautions and even offered me hand sanitizer as I picked up to the food. Other: The food is amazing but it is definitely pricey. However, during these difficulty times for small businesses, we were more than happy to support this amazing restaurant and will likely go back!

Megan L.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. If you don't know what to order the staff will always make suggestions from apps to entrees. I'm impressed with the quality and flavors! Always order an appetizer, it can take a while for the main dishes to come to the table. The eggplant is delicious, but if you don't like soft vegetables I wouldn't recommend it. The rice is plentiful and not dry and the lamb kebab is seasoned well. To top it off, the pistachio rose water ice cream was a nice way to end the night. Come here and try out Afghan cuisine in Wallingford

Abdul A.

Yelp
Don't even know where to start. From the delicious bolani to succulent kababs, this place is a must try. Our group tried all 4 different kababs and quite honestly we couldn't even rank them as each was as delicious as the other. Also had the eggplant and spinach and they didn't disappoint. The service was exemplary as well. Will definitely be back next time we're in town.

Yelp
Excellent service! Great food, the atmosphere is relaxing & enjoyable. Our server was attentive and polite. 10/10 would highly recommend!

Yelp
Eight of us ate there and none were disappointed the food was awesome. I had their house soup and honestly it was the best I have ever had. Chicken dish was cooked to perfection

Yelp
So good! My friends got Kabuli pulaw, definitely have to try that next. Included some of the artistic/historical decor because they were just beautiful.

Yelp
Great food and ambiance. Service was excellent. Overall a nice night out with standout dishes and a place I'd return to with my family.

Yelp
Top tier food and service. Opener is a good guy and staff are very respectful. Some of the tastiest food in Seattle. Fair prices for Seattle too

Yelp
Spent this past weekend in Seattle and it was unbelievable to be in such a diverse city with so many food options. During the trip, I had the opportunity to visit my first ever Afghani restaurant with my best friend who is Afghani. Located in the Wallingford neighborhood, you are immediately greeted with friendly faces in an ambiance that is warm and welcoming. The menu is fairly authentic and there are many dishes to choose from. I'd suggest going for the 'Kebab for Two' (can be made for more than 2) special to get a sample into what this cuisine represents. This special starts with a delicious soup called Ash, followed by kebabs (go for lamb and beef), basmati rice, and some other side dishes. All the dishes were prepped and tasted delicious. In the end, we were greeted with a creamy creme brulee-ish dessert that topped the night. In addition to this, I ordered red wine from Lebanon which tasted delicate and balanced the dishes off fairy well. I give Kabul Afghan a 5/5. The price is a bit higher than most, but the service, quality, and experience really deserves praise and a visit.

Yelp
Upon arrival we were greeted warmly with a fantastic wait staff. It was evident they were passionate with sharing the flavors of their restaurant. We were not disappointed as the food was vibrant and played to the meat lovers as well as the vegetarians in the group. Loved the flavors and the chef through in a few of the house specials for us to try on top of the lovely food we ordered. Thanks for showing us such a good time!

Yelp
Kabul Afghan Cuisine is my first experience with Afghani food so I can't speak to how authentic it is or how it compares to other Afghani restaurants but without knowing what to expect, I very much enjoyed the food and my experience at Kabul. The experience is what really makes this small family owned restaurant so amazing. My friends and I were greeted with a very warm welcome from the staff and owner when we came in; joking with us and saying that they would impress us and convert us from first time customers to returning customers. I do agree with some of the other reviews that price is a little high for how little meat their entrees contain but the portions are quite large. We ordered the Sheekh Khebab and the beef was quite dry (not sure if that's the style though) but the flavors were amazing. Especially the cumin flavors in the basmati rice. This place is also amazing for vegetarians as all their appetizers and half their entrees are vegetarian friendly. At the end of our meal, we decided to try their Firni and the owner teased us for getting just one dessert to share among 3 people so he treated us to Baklava on the house. I wasn't a fan of the Firni because of how floral it was from the rosewater but the baklava was delicious!

Yelp
Have driven by this place since moving to Seattle 2005! Figured it was time to check it out. Gracious staff, intriguing decor, and delicious food. Had eggplant appetizer which was full of flavor, and went with recommendation from waiter for Bara Kabab. Meat was tender, sides were flavorful. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Yelp
Good food. There are a lot of vegetarian options. Lots of flavor and not too spicy. The yogurt sauce is perfect . I would also recommend the cardomon tea, firni. I think it's a little pricey; I don't know if that's an yelp thing . An entree costs about $20 and cannot be shared, the portion sizes are suited for one person. And I am a light eater. I will definitely come here again to try out more.

Yelp
One of the finest place to have Murgh (chicken) Kabobs. Period. Their food is very authentic, delicious. It has yummy flavors and aroma. Meat was cooked to perfection. We tried the same dish twice and it did not disappoint at all. Their appetizers are also very unique. Never seen them elsewhere. We tried Burta and Ash.. Both were equally good. The only tiny complain I have is that all of appetizers are vegetarian. They have good selection of wines. But I think they are bit pricey compared to other restuarents. Service is good and staff is very friendly. Place is small and cozy but has good ambiance. Its also quite. I would definitely recommend the place for those who want beat their hunger with yummy meat and flavors.
