Halal Afghan, went on 8/27/2022 for dinner because we were in Flushing.
We wanted to start off with the combo plate of appetizers, but they didn't have most of the appetizers available (we did go in the evening), so we opted to go straight into the main dishes. Also, note that they do not provide complimentary water, so we had to buy 2 sodas.
We chose to get the largest platter: the Combo 2 which is almost $50 and includes 3 types of kababs and rice (we got half green rice, half brown rice). The green rice was a definite standout, we could almost just eat it by itself. The brown rice was a great vessel for the kabab, but it wasn't anything special compared to the green rice. The green rice is only available on weekends, so I highly recommend going on the weekends for it. The chicken kabab was nice, and so was the beef tikka (both 8.5/10). Compared to those, the chapli kabab didn't have as great of a texture, but it still wasn't bad. The roasted tomato was a nice refreshing touch. The salad that it came with was okay, nothing special, but there were sauces nearby to pour onto your plate if necessary.
Just Combo 2 was enough to fill a family of 4, but we didn't realize how filling the platter would be when we also ordered a Lamb Tikka plate. The Lamb Tikka was good and not too gamey, and it wasn't overly chewy either.
The kababs were kind of pricey, but their Afghan-style kababs were unique to us and very yummy.
