NYC’s New Restaurant Openings

"At Kaew Jao Jorm, a new Thai spot in East Williamsburg, the food is inspired by royal Thai recipes, like fried mackerel in red curry, and chor muang, a blue rice-based dumpling stuffed with pork and peanuts." - will hartman

A Hidden Gem for Thai Food Lovers 🇹🇭❤️ I really loved the cozy atmosphere of this restaurant, and the food completely exceeded my expectations. It’s rare to find Thai food this authentic overseas ... every dish was full of flavor and reminded me of home. You can truly taste the care in every bite. This place definitely won my heart. Highly recommended!

Google
This place has honestly become one of my favorite spots for Thai food in the U.S. The quality is amazing, and every dish I’ve tried has been super flavorful and feels really true to traditional Thai cooking. The service is great too—everyone’s really friendly and makes sure you’re taken care of. I also love that the main dishes come with rice, which not every place does. And the desserts? So good. I’m definitely coming back!

Google
This was the best Thai I have ever had and one of my favorite meals that I’ve eaten. Staff was kind and accommodating. Everyone in my party was raving about their food, but I couldn’t look up from my plate to even notice until we debriefed. I highly recommend this restaurant.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 A truly unforgettable dining experience! Kaewjaojorm is hands down one of the best Thai restaurants I’ve ever been to. The food is absolutely exquisite — rich in flavor, beautifully presented, and made using royal Thai recipes that have been passed down for generations. You can truly taste the history and authenticity in every bite. The atmosphere is warm and elegant, with traditional Thai decor that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into another world. The staff were incredibly kind, welcoming, and attentive, making the entire experience even more enjoyable. If you’re looking for a place that serves real, royal-style Thai cuisine in Brooklyn, this is it. Highly recommend — 10/10! 🇹🇭

Google
This place is so lovely. Wear your favorite fancy attire and enjoy the atmosphere and jazz music in the background. Much attention to detail is placed in the way the food is presented and it's quite tasty, too. I had a great time. Just a side note that it is on the pricey side and the place is small so the tables are very close together. I went when it wasn't too busy, so that really made a difference in my enjoyment level!

Do yourself a favor; skip the flight and hassle of going to Thailand, and just reserve a table at Kaew Jao Jorm Thai instead. Our friends were visiting from Colombia and wanted to try something that they couldn’t easily get in Bogota, so we brought them here to try it out because of all the stellar reviews. You know how sometimes you go to a place and it just doesn’t live up to the hype? Well, this isn’t that. Today on Google Maps this restaurant has 773 reviews and a five-star average, and I can attest that it deserves every one of those five stars. Everything was on point; the service, the timeliness, and of course the food. All were amazing. Between the four of us we ordered two appetizers and three entrees (see photos), and we all had different favorites. You know a restaurant is doing it right when you can’t decide on which dish you love best! I highly recommend going to Thailand, it’s a wonderful country where the people and nature are amazing, but if you want to try the food and be a bit fancy, then you should definitely come to Kaew Jao Jorm. I guess now they’ve got 774 five-star reviews.

Google
Tldr; looks instagram pretty but other thai restaurants do a better job in the taste department (eg. Chalong, Fish Cheeks) The wait staff are very nice and ask for Google reviews when youre paying the check with a QR code which helped explain to us, at least, why this place has so many reviews. Pros - The dishes are beautifully decorated & colorful. The wait staff are very friendly. Cons - I think if your eyes did the tasting, it would be fantastic, but unfortunately when you taste the dishes, they’re rather disappointing. The fish meat itself lacked flavor apart from the condiments and toppings it had. The seafood soup lacked depth in flavor. Pomelo salad was OK. The skewers really tasted no better than an average thai takeout spot. Oh the best dish was the purple gnocchi dessert. Dishes are VERY pricey - you’re paying peak manhattan restaurant prices. It would be fine if the dishes were amazing and the service was good.. we paid $200 for 2ppl and we werent even drinking. The floor manager seemed completely out of his depth and also lacking in any customer service skills. We had to wait 30 mins for our table, and were crammed like sardines at the front of the restaurant since it’s tiny. Zero communication from manager on when we’d be seated while he fretted around on the tablet. A woman had come to pick up her take out order, and we could see the bags ready to go by the kitchen but the manager seemed completely oblivious, even tho a few of us waiting by the door tried to flag their attention. There were multiple other service / operational issues (which do get magnified more because its a tiny restaurant, all the more reason to have more competent staff and streamlined operations..)

The food was delicious. It was a small but quaint place. My husband had crab fried rice which had a little bite to it but wasn't overly seasoned. It was really good. My daughter had the Gaeng poo. It was a good mix of sweet and savoury. They also served it with white rice. I would definitely come back.

Yelp
Kaew Jao Jorm is a hidden gem in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, offering an authentic Royal Thai dining experience that transports you back to 19th-century Thailand. The intimate, elegantly decorated space creates a warm ambiance, perfect for a cozy date night or a relaxed dinner with friends. Appetizers * Chor Muang: Delicate, flower-shaped purple dumplings filled with a savory-sweet chicken and peanut mixture--almost too beautiful to eat. * King Crab Salad: Fresh, juicy king crab combined with bold Thai flavors, achieving a perfect balance of spice and tang. Mains * Phed Ma Kham: Tender, juicy duck breast glazed with a sweet and sour tamarind sauce. * Coconut Tom Yum Prawn: Aromatic lemongrass and coconut broth housing jumbo prawns, offering a harmonious blend of flavors. Dessert * Banana Candied: Soft, caramelized banana paired with rich coconut milk, providing a delightful sweet finish. Drinks * Honey Green Tea * Thai Iced Tea Our server was amazing and gave us menu recommendations. Reservations are recommended due to the restaurant's cozy size.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious Thai food at Kaew Jao Jorm. Every dish ordered was 10/10 and I plan on coming back asap before they become too popular. I made a reservation a couple of weeks in advance for a Wednesday night but walking in would have been fine. However, keep in mind that this restaurant is tiny (less than 30ish seats I think) so once they do become popular or on busier weekends, reservations are probably better. For a group of 3 we ordered the Yum Som O (Pomelo Salad), Phed Ma Kham (Duck Breast), Salted Eggs with Five-Spiced Pork, and Crab Omelette. This was a perfect amount of food for our group and every dish was phenomenal. The only dish I thought that was good but not necessarily special enough to re-order was the Crab Omelette. Solid dish but nothing stood out compared to the other dishes. Also unlike other Thai restaurants that charge $$ for a side of rice, this place offers free unlimited rice. Unheard of in NY where nothing is free. Make sure to come try the food here before it becomes impossible to grab a table!

Yelp
WOW. What a spot. This is still a relatively new restaurant, aka a hidden gem. I lowkey hope it stays this way for my own sake, but also hope that a lot of people find out about this spot and start coming because it's just that good. Service was excellent -- our server was very attentive with us, seeing if we needed more water or rice, and asking if the food was okay. We began with Chor Muang (royal flower dumplings). These were chewy on the outside from the rice dough, and soft and savory on the inside with a chicken-peanut filling. They're beautiful too. We opted for the Gaeng Ped Phed Yang (duck curry) and Pad Kea Mao Seafood as our two entrees. I loved how each dish bursted with flavor, all with sweet, spicy, tangy, acidic, perfectly salted and incredibly delicious. Definitely will come back here again for some authentic Thai food.

Yelp
Wow. Just wow. Incredible food, service and ambiance! I don't go into Brooklyn that often but will most definitely go for food and Kaew Jao Jorm is top of the bar! Everything we had was a flavor explosion of salty, tang/sour, and spicy. I love spicy and some of the dishes here had a good kick so be forewarned to ask if you are averse to spicy food. Seafood ingredients were especially fresh and you could taste it. Service was impeccable. Workers were very helpful with recommendations and refilling water. Someone came by with a fancy container of rice and offered refills (trust me, you need to get the rice to sop up all the sauce from other dishes). Highly recommend Kaew Jao Jorm to get your Thai Royal Palace fix in. Ordered: Drinks *pandan lemongrass juice *bael juice Appetizers *banana blossom salad *phla pla too (Thai mackerel) Entrees *run juan curry (this was the only thing I would probably not order again just because I'd like to try the other curries which sound amazing) *salted eggs with five-spiced pork Dessert *Thai gnocchi in coconut milk

Yelp
Kaew Jao Jorm Thai is a true gem in Brooklyn! I love the beautifully decorated space and warm service here. We started with the Chor Muang (Royal Flower Dumplings), and they were my favorite. The soft, chewy purple rice dough was not only visually stunning but also perfectly complemented by the sweet-savory chicken and peanut filling. The Yum Som O (Royal Thai Pomelo Salad) was equally delightful--refreshing, citrusy, and packed with layers of flavor from mint, shallots, and kaffir lime leaves. For mains, the Gaeng The Po (Thai Curry with Pork Belly and Morning Glory) was rich and comforting, while the Young Coconut Tom Yum Prawn stood out with its bold, spicy, herbal broth and tender jumbo prawns. The "mild" spice level here still packs a kick, tho FYI! The meal ended on a sweet note with the Thai Gnocchi in Coconut Milk, a delightful dessert featuring chewy pandan gnocchi in creamy coconut milk with young coconut--an absolute must-try. We paired everything with their teas, and both the Turmeric Mango and Wild Thai Black were aromatic and perfectly brewed. Bonus points for the unlimited rice refills, which goes perfectly with the curry! This spot checks all the boxes: delicious food, attentive service, and great ambiance. Can't wait to come back! Hi

Yelp
Found this gem near my apartment, it's not a big space but very cozy. The service was amazing, staff were attentive, and frequently came by to give us rice and water. The food was delicious, dishes are definitely on the pricier end but the portions are well sized. Highly recommend and would come back again!

Yelp
While the food is undoubtedly delicious, I mainly am rating five stars due to the exceptional service and hospitality. I felt so welcomed and comfortable, even amiable, throughout my entire experience thanks to every staff I interacted with. My favorite dish is the Chor Muang appetizer. The pomelo texture unexpectedly but perfectly fits with the Southeast Asian flavors. The side rice is unlimited! As a devout carbs addict, I couldn't ask for a better perk. Love the interior as well. Very full and lively without feeling disorganized.

Yelp
The food here is authentic and tastes delicious! The La Tiang and Chor Muang appetizers are so unique and the texture of the purple dumplings was chewy and had a nice savory filling. The crab curry was not too spicy and had lots of meaty crab in it. The duck was very tender and had a nice crispy skin! It's small inside, but it's very clean and beautifully designed. The waitress was really helpful with menu recommendations and was very efficient!

Yelp
Kaew Jao Jorm, a new restaurant located in East Williamsburg, has easily become my latest favorite thai restaurant in NYC. Walking into the restaurant is an experience itself. The ambiance is relaxing with dimmed lighting, soothing music and luxurious decor to match. The menu features a variety of little-known traditional thai dishes. While the dish names are written in thai and lacks images, our server is sweet and knowledgeable. She enthusiastically introduces us their best didjes and is attentive throughout the dinner. *La Tiang*** La Tiang is a type of traditional royal snack made of shrimp, pork, and peanuts envelopped together in a square shape of a thin mesh omelette net. I've never seen such dish before. The delicacy and uniqueness leave us in awe. *Gong Sa Rong** The deep fried jumbo shrimps are wrapped with crispy noodle. The outer layer is crispy, while the shrimp is bouncy and fresh. The sweet chili sauce on the side adds tangy sweetness to the dish. *Salted Egg with Five-spiced Pork*** The thickly sliced pork belly is simmered in a sweet and deeply flavored broth with herbs. The salted duck egg is too salty on its own, but it gives an umami taste to the dish. This pot of braised pork is a rice thief, but don't worry it comes with a giant silver pot of rice. *Poh Tak Talay It is a spicy bouillabaisse served with mixed seafood, including jumbo shrimps, mussels, squids, and more. The broth is really spicy, but the spice doesn't overpower the seafood. You can still taste the freshness of ingredients and a slight hint of zesty lemongrass. *Thai Gnocchi in Coconut*** Now I wish all thai reataurants serve this dessert. The thai gnocchi is TO DIE FOR! The pandan coconut milk is incredibly rich and creamy, as they don't dilute the base with half & half or milk other than coconut milk. Different from regular gnocchi, this one is softer and has shiny blue and white stripes.

Yelp
Spent a wonderful evening @kaewjaojorm.restaurant . It's a Thai restaurant that uses recipes from the Royal Thai palace. The food was incredibly flavorful and delicious. You can taste the freshness of the ingredients and seasonings. My favorite was the curry with the soft shell crab and the shrimp rings. The server was so attentive and explained each dish perfectly. The vibes and decor were amazing in this small intimate restaurant. What we ate: Chor Muang - purple flower dumpling Fried Shrimp ring Curry with soft shell crab Whole fried branzino

Yelp
This is definitely a new go-to Thai spot! Every dish had such unique flavors and definitely hit the spot. We started with the Chor Muang, dumplings in a sticky rice dough. For entrees, we had the Gaeng Poo, a soft-shell crab curry, and the Massaman Neua, a beef curry. The soft-shell crab was perfectly fried, and everything comes with unlimited rice. They're still working on their liquor license but they are BYOB for now.

Yelp
This is an upscale Thai restaurant from the interior decor to the way they present all their dishes. It really is a beautiful place to dine at. The prices are similar to prices you'd pay at a fine dining spot so be prepared for that. Every dish that I ordered was authentically flavored, giving a true Thai cuisine experience. The Royal flower dumplings were something that I've never had before. The chicken and peanut filing was an acquired taste and had a smooth texture. It was pretty as well. The shrimp cakes were classically made. I always love a good Thai shrimp cake. The panang neua was also delicious. I loved the spice level on it. The beef pieces were thick but I felt like the serving was very small for what they priced it at. The crab fried rice was really good and I enjoyed the jumbo lump crab meat in it. I felt like they really packed it with lots of crab so you definitely get your money's worth on that. The waitstaff was really attentive to our needs. I brought my 3 year old here. I felt like they really adjusted to her being in there, seeing that the restaurant was giving more of an "adults only" feel. However, I did have a negative experience with the bathroom. There's only 1 and that's probably not ideal for any parent bringing their toddler. My daughter had to go really bad and so she ran to the bathroom, rattled the door handle. I told her to stop. But she was nearly close to tears because she couldn't hold it in. So I knocked on the door to see if the person in there would be out soon and explained that my daughter had to use the restroom. The person who came out actually ended up being someone who works at the restaurant. They asked me what was wrong with me. I did apologize and say that my daughter just really needed to pee. He had 0 empathy about my 3 year old and said "Well I have to pee too". And while I know that I am entitled to absolutely nothing as a mother, I felt like that was a really rude response for something I was being really kind and understanding about. Anyways, with that being said, I don't recommend this for families or parent(s) bringing their child out to eat. This is more for adults.

Yelp
This Thai restaurant is truly amazing! The dishes on the menu are hard to find in New York, and they really surprise you. The interior is luxurious and elegant, with dim lighting that creates the perfect atmosphere, making it easy to get completely immersed in the experience! Chor Muang is incredibly high in visual appeal--its purple dumplings look like works of art. The sticky rice dough is filled with chicken and crushed nuts, creating a sweet and savory mix that's so rich in flavor that you can't stop after one bite. Gaeng Ped Phed Yang has super tender duck, paired with the sweet flavors of lychee and pineapple. The curry is rich and smooth, and each bite is simply a pleasure! What I particularly liked is that the rice is served in a large silver container, and you can ask the waiter to scoop it for you, adding a touch of ceremony to the meal. Poh Tak Talay is similar to Tom Yum, with a well-balanced blend of sour, sweet, and spicy flavors. However, the spice isn't as intense, and the addition of Thai basil elevates the dish. La Tiang features egg dough wrapped around shrimp, chicken, and peanuts, with a rich texture. For dessert, I chose Royal Thai Ice Cream, a smooth coconut-flavored ice cream, refreshing and delicious. The drink even has longan! It's sweet with a deep, fragrant dry longan aroma, definitely worth trying. The Cinnamon Plum tea is naturally sweet, requiring no sugar--perfect for cinnamon lovers.

Yelp
I had my Birthday party lunch there! We had appetizers and entrees that were recommended by the hostess! The seafood boule side, pomelo salads and fish salad was very tasty! We had pad seuw and duck and curries which were great! We had the dessert knocking and Thai ice tea! Fantastic meal, ambience and music!

Yelp
Really good local thai spot and very nice staff! Definitely worth a visit. More authentic vibes on the menu

Yelp
i dont say this lightly but this was genuinely the best thai food ive ever had in my life so far. went with a group of 6 and ordered: flour dumplings pomelo salad banana blossom crab fried rice pad see ew tamarind duck panang neua soft shell crab curry each dish was genuinely elite and my least favorite was the pad see ew (which was still very good) if that says anything. the deep curry flavors matched the protein they were served with in an incredibly unique way. the service is excellent as they're very attentive with their provision of free rice for the curries. their teas were amazing too. i genuinely look forward to the next time i can come back and explore more of the menu

Chloe S.

Yelp
Had a very enjoyable dinner here! New spot & great addition to East Williamsburg. Menu has a lot of options, including many with seafood. We shared the banana leaf salad, crab curry, seafood pad kea mao and crab cakes - everything was really flavorful, fresh and delicious with spice, great for sharing. Rice is brought to you individually and refilled. The decor is really nice and service was great. They opened recently so do not serve any alcohol yet, but let us bring wine, not sure if this is just temporary though. Overall great weekday dinner, and will definitely be back! We made a reservation but some of the other tables walked in.
