"Brewing beans from local roastery Seattle Coffee Works, this cute coffeeshop/bakery is generating some of the best smells in the neighborhood, between the coffee and their selection of German pastries. Alongside your cappuccino, grab a slice of blechkuchen (a fruit-studded sheet cake with a madeleine-like texture) or maybe zitronenmohnkuchen (a glazed lemon–poppyseed coffee cake), or perhaps even a käselaugenstange (an extremely correct German pretzel roll with Gruyere baked on top) to go." - Meg van Huygen

"If you smell cookies and cake as you’re heading down Lake City Way, it’s probably coming from this German bakery. All their sweets are very good, like apple turnovers, bienenstich, a.k.a. honey almond custard cake, and rugelach. They make excellent soft pretzels as well, which they sell to a lot of pubs in town. Grab a biscuit and jam for a quick breakfast, or pick up a bunch of pretzels destined to be swiped through buffalo chicken dip at a Seahawks-watching party." - aimee rizzo, carlo mantuano

I’ve been coming here since 2012, and I used to really love it. Unfortunately, it feels like things have dropped off a bit in recent years. For one thing, their prices have skyrocketed! A single drink, even a basic one, somehow ends up costing $12 by itself! I’m used to being able to get a basic mocha and a pastry for that much, not paying that just for the drink alone. I feel like the pastries have gone a bit downhill, too. I used to love their apple turnovers but the last several times I’ve gotten one, there seems to be less and less apple each time. Just an empty pocket of lightly fried dough with maybe two tiny apple pieces inside. There’s been a lot less variety, too. Overall, I hate to say this given it’s now our only neighborhood coffee spot, but it’s just not worth it anymore. The prices are way too high compared to the product quality, the hours seem to be all over the place, and the staff turnover seems to be way higher now too. I’m not sure what in the world happened here, but I really miss the days when Annika made a regular appearance. Felt like the quality and experience was significantly better back then.

Google
I have been coming here for years and enjoy the high quality authentic German baked goods - reminiscent of offerings from my German grandmother. A very inclusive atmosphere is also important to me. Provides a delicious sanctuary of hope!

Google
Great coffee shop with lots of options! Park in the back. It's hard to find parking in front.

Google
Very cozy and cute cafe, plenty of parking, great seating with "share table signs if you wanted. Great service and amazing coffee. Had the pumpkin spice Latte.

Google
Took a chance as my usual place is remodeling and I'm glad I did. The pastries and cakes were well made and fresh. The pretzels received the approval of a German citizen. The servers were friendly and engaged in light banter. The place could use a little sprucing up.

Google
I picked up some baked goods recently on my visit to Kaffeeklatsch. The pretzels were the best I’ve ever had and the mustard sauce went great with them. I am a big fan of sour dough bread and was excited to try their rye bread loaf. The bread had a great flavor to it but it was really dense. I do not have much experience with German bread but it tastes authentic. They used to have soups for lunch pre covid. I really wish they bring it back.

Google
I paid $18 for a strawberry smoothie (just strawberry, no other add ins) and a pastry…. I know Seattle prices are a lot and I was in the neighborhood so wanted to try something local. But if I lived in the neighborhood, I would never buy from here.

Google
Came in for a quick coffee and pastry. Seems like a great place to get some German baked goods. Our coffee was nice and the pastries were ok. The reason for the 3 stars is that the quality did not match the prices. $30 for 2 coffees and 2 pastries. Tipping options started at 15%. Would probably choose a diff coffee stop in future on that basis.

Yelp
We visited Seattle this weekend and came here 3 days in a row! We tried their cookies, pastries, bread, and of course their coffee. Everything was excellent, which is why we kept going back :) The staff here is so nice. And the atmosphere is very chill and welcoming. They have signs you can put on your table if you want to share your space with someone looking for a seat. And they have a German word of the day each day, which I thought was cute. Thanks for all the good eats and drinks! We will definitely be visiting again when we come back to Seattle!

Yelp
Stopped in while my car was getting an oil change across the street. Enjoyed a bacon, egg & cheese biscuit sandwich. I got a side of jam to go with any leftover biscuit. All was good! The standout of Kaffeeklatsch would be its customer service. Very helpful, thorough and I appreciate the care they take in distinguishing that I may want my coffee in a to go cup, along with the biscotti in a bag, but enjoy the sandwich on the premises. They take great care to make sure the customer gets what they want. There was ample seating to sit, enjoy and relax on a Friday morning.

Megan G.

Yelp
Really cute little spot that my friend and I came to get breakfast in. It was busy the full hour we were there, but never too busy to get a table and the line moves fast. I got the bacon and egg biscuit- really good! The biscuits are great, flaky and fresh. I also got a latte and that was good. We got an assortment of baked goods to try and these were fine but not amazing. Out of all the baked goods, the pain au chocolate was definitely the best, such great layers and amazing flavor! I would definitely try some other items, they had lots of great looking stuff.

Wennie H.

Yelp
Really great experience here this morning, service is friendly and helpful. Got the vegetarian breakfast sammie (egg, cheese, tomato slice on a scone/biscuit), soft heart pretzel, bienenstich (almond pastry), drip coffee and americano. The pretzel was hands down the best carb we had here, soft, just the right amount of salt, chewy, not too dense. The bienestich wasn't too sweet, almonds candied, filling light- yummy. The breakfast sammie was crispy on the outside, soft and warm, little bland, would have been super yummy with a side of jam!

Melanie M.

Yelp
I've been here a couple times for coffee and baked goods. I love their pretzels. If I still lived nearby, I would go there all the time!

Lisa O.

Yelp
I LOVE THIS PLACE!! I have a German mom and grandparents and the bakery items this place has are just dripping with nostalgia for me. Everything here is so meticulously made with love and thoughtfulness. Photo with just a few of the offerings, do NOT MISS the plum cake (Blechkuchen) OMG. The coffee (locally roasted True North) is fabulous as well. What a morning, you guys, what a morning.

Diana X.

Yelp
Decent pastries - love that they have some distinctive home made German pastries. Taste-wise it's not totally my preference but really appreciate the community feel and space of this cafe for working.

Jessica D.

Yelp
Love this place so much. Amazing pastries and amazing service. They are so nice. Cozy vibes. You will see people working here often.

Kati W.

Yelp
I love Kaffeeklatsch.... I first found them at the farmers market when I moved here. They had a stand and their pretzels caught my eye but the BROTCHEN . Their bread tastes EXACTLY like brotchen from the little bakeries in my families village in Germany. So nostalgic. Since moving here, I've taken all of my family who has visited to try as well. We've tried countless sweets, of course their pretzels (which they sell to other restaurants and breweries in the Seattle area for their menus), and their coffee, but I ALWAYS come back to the brotchen with a little bit of quark and jam. I missed their holiday stollen last year and saw they are beginning to make it again for this years holiday season - I will definitely not be missing it this time! Go to kaffeeklatsch!!! They have a parking lot!!

Jacob E.

Yelp
That sweet butter and jam biscuit will make you bust. It is stupid delicious. I bought some local honey there too and it was great. They got daily fresh baked bread specials and one of them is a challah-esque loaf that you can pull apart into dinner roll sized pieces and it is amazing. The coffee is good but I am also not a snob about it. I hate reading reviews of coffee shops because they are all like "the service was good and the food was good but the roast on my cortado was slightly different than what I expected it to be so I am giving it three stars." Bunch of you burnt orange patagonia wearing Seattle guys need to shut up and drink your damn coffee, its a beverage not a personality you dorks.

Nikita S.

Yelp
Decent coffee with decent ambiance. Good to kill some time if you're waiting for your car to be fixed.

Maria R.

Yelp
Food is delicious! Highly recommend any and ALL of the goodies there! I do enjoy the freshly made mocha cappuccino! It just has a wonderful flavor and gives me that pep in my step that I need for the day. Very friendly and social-able people that work there, they will always have good recommendations if you are unable to decide on all the great choices! Love the seating area, decorated with different styles and very cozy! ( :

Yelp
Nice people, great blueberry hibiscus iced tea! It's also unsweetened, which is great. I added my own sugar but you do you. Prices seem good to me, lots of baked options including breakfast sandwiches. Music want too loud and seemed good to me, not corporate or too sappy. Free Wi-Fi! Come and get it

Nathan R.

Yelp
Just had a tasty sweet raspberry thing and a great sesame roll. My kid liked it so much he insisted I leave a review.

Prakriti K.

Yelp
Always a fan of a good bakery cafe. And even more so when it's German! Kaffeeklatsch has been on my list for quite some time now. So glad we could make a quick stop here! The smell of fresh bread when you walk through the door is priceless. I mainly went here to try their famous biscuits. Especially the jam ones, which turned out to be amazing. But we also ended up trying their Bienenstich (A soft yeasty cake with almond crust top and sweet custard filling), Blechkuchen ( Buttery Sheet Cake with raspberry topping) and Apfeltasche (Apple Turnover). You just can't stop yourself from ordering them all! Loved that they weren't too sweet. Seemed perfectly baked and tasted yum! The raspberry one was a bit sour to my taste, but loved everything else! We got coffee just to go with it and I'm so glad we did!!! One of the best capuccinos I've had so far. Strong and extremely flavorful! If you're someone who loves coffee and some baked goodness, this is your place!

Andrea K.

Yelp
The biscuit sandwich was delicious!! I took some rosemary focaccia home and enjoyed it with soup over the next couple days. Ladies behind the counter were friendly.

Andrei L.

Yelp
The bread is great. The brotchen was good too I am not full5 happy because they have very little selection of German breads and pastries. I expected more from 'German cafe' I enjoyed coffee.

Renee S.

Yelp
I discovered this bakery while having my car detailed two blocks away. It was a comfortable place to sit and and enjoy a latte and a delicious biscuit and egg sandwich. It has a relaxing environment with wifi and plant filled sunlit windows with plenty of small tables. One thing i plan to go back for are the authentic German breads freshly baked on-site

Jenya B.

Yelp
Leckere und authentische deutsche Brezeln! Ich wünschte, sie würden mehr vegane Leckereien herstellen...

Paul R.

Yelp
Very nice people and ambiance with the tall Christmas tree and related decorations. Some nice bread loaf options and I got a sweet braided bread similar to challah. The cortado was okay, not wow, because the bean roast seems to be on the darker and more bitter direction. The chocolate chip cookies were excellent. The patrons seemed very local and comfortable. I would definitely come back if I'm the neighborhood.

D. M.

Yelp
Good treats...we are lucky to have such a place in our community. My only complaint, which doesn't impact stars, is a little more personable customer service. A smile...eye contact maybe? The lack of that makes for a...cold experience but honestly the food more than makes up for it.

Amy G.

Yelp
Coffee and baked goods equally exceptional. Staff is efficient and friendly. Kaffeeklatch also supports the local community in a variety of ways; another reason I will continue to rave about this place. Only wish it was open earlier so I could be a customer more often.

Erika M.

Yelp
The food is always spectacular, service is always prompt. My friend and I love to run down and grab some pretzels and sit with our puppy outside. They help with the homesickness when I miss my Omi's meals.

Aubrey L.

Yelp
Delish pastries!!!!!!!!!!! Recommended by my cousin who lives near there and goes a lot. Fun place

Ren W.

Yelp
Yum! Every thing we have tried here is amazing The jam biscuits and pretzel rolls are my current faves!

Shmuel R.

Yelp
I enjoy the coffee and the staff, but I wonder... why there is a Ukrainian flag up and no Palestinian flag? Do we not support all those whose land is taken and whose people are killed?

Luba K.

Yelp
I've had my eye on this place for a while and couldn't wait to try it . I'm not sure if they were having an off-day, but my plain oat milk latte was terrible and my man's cold brew was so sour and bitter I spit it out as soon as I tasted it. That was a first for me. We tossed both drinks and went to a different local shop we can trust.

W L.

Yelp
This space was so intriguing a few years ago, but food service and ambiance has degraded and I am hoping it all turns around soon. May be that The neighborhood businesses are struggling so that definitely has an impact.

Ingo S.

Yelp
Been to this place numerous times over the past 2 years: - Way overpriced. $4.50 for a pretzel. Seriously? - Average quality: Neither pastries nor breads etc. is anything to write home about. - Unfriendly staff. - In addition to being always being mopey, they get the order wrong half the time. Make sure to check your bag/box before you leave. Avoid this place.

Julie S.

Yelp
Awesome local coffee shop. I've been here a few times now and have had great experiences. The actual coffee is really tasty - I've ordered a Capuccino and vanilla latte. I've tried quite a few of their food items and they're all delicious. The cheese pretzel, jam biscuit, breakfast sandwich are all amazing. Also love the fact that they hire some neurodivergent staff. Their staff are awesome. This place is such a gem!

Vy P.

Yelp
I had high hopes since I'm currently on the hunt for a good coffee shop. Satisfied? Absolutely. LOCATION & PARKING // It's located right on Lake City Way/522. Keep your eyes open though because it's easy to miss. You're going to have to park on either the street, which isn't that hard to find - even on a weekend morning, or in the private lot in the back and walk a bit. The coffee shop itself is midsized. They have quite a few tables in there so things can feel a bit crowded. FOOD & DRINK // I ordered a CINNAMON ROLL and a VANILLA LATTE. The cinnamon roll was a pretty large portion and I could only eat about 80% of it. It was absolutely delicious though! It was fluffy and warm. I would absolutely get it again. As for the vanilla latte, it was delicious! It was not too sweet but still had a hint of vanilla. I didn't feel sick of it by the end of it. SERVICE // Things were super busy in here on a Sunday morning but I had positive interactions with everyone here. Everyone is on their game and effective at their job. Great job. OVERALL // 5 stars I definitely want to come back! It's in the running to being my go-to coffee shop.

Doctor K.

Yelp
This could be the best chocolate chip cookie in Seattle. The pretzel rolls remind me of being in Europe. Everything was Amazing!

Michael I.

Yelp
I was having my car worked on and wanted to grab coffee to while I waited. Located this bakery a couple blocks away and thought I'd check it out. Quaint shop, friendly owner and staff. The owner likes to travel and is kind enough to share her stories. The baked goods are fresh and home made. The shop is busy, and filled with neighbors from the immediate area, so there is good conversation despite the construction on Lake City Way, even early on a Saturday morning. Not your typical and traditional bake shop, there are some unique treats, but some down home favorites too. Stop in, you'll be glad you did!

Yelp
Wonderful German style cafe/bakery. They are donating money for Ukraine and have adorable cookies. Come here and support them and Ukraine

Liz F.

Yelp
I LOVE this little coffee shop/bakery. I lived in Lake City for a short stint and this was my go-to spot. Now whenever I'm in the area, I make sure to swing by. This is a German-style coffee shop. Their name, Kaffeeklatsch, is a combination of Kaffee, the term coffee, and Klatsch, or gossip. They are known for their bakery - my personal favorite is their chocolate croissant, though they also have a really solid breakfast sandwich. They use True North Coffee to brew, with a specialized blend created just for the shop called "Lake City Blend". They have a parking lot around the back, several kids tables inside, and free bakery smells.

Tiff H.

Yelp
I'm not sure I've ever been to a German bakery so this coffee and breakfast pit stop was actually pretty exciting. It was on our way to Vancouver that we decided to make a stop at Kaffeeklatsch. Kaffeeklatsch offers a great way to give back to local business in everything that they do, so it felt good to eat and drink and give a tip. There was quite a display of pastries and baked goods. A couple of the items I really wanted to try looked a little heavier so I ended up being super basic and getting a cookie. The Lake Way City Cookie looked pretty tasty so I ordered it, but when I ordered the "chocolate chip cookie" they gave me the chocolate chip cookie with walnuts - which was tasty, too, but not what I ordered. I didn't realize it until I had consumed a few bites. The cappuccino took a while. But once I got it, it felt good sipping on the hot caffeinated beverage. Kaffeeklatsch is a great local spot that I wouldn't mind spending a little more time relaxing at in the future.

Marina B.

Yelp
I was thrilled to discover a German bakery in Seattle that serves one of my favorite cakes: Bienenstich. I went and bought to slices and a hoagie roll. The cake was okay but didn't meet my expectations. The hoagie roll on the other hand was fantastic. I definitely want to try more of their baked good but I probably won't be getting Bienenstich here again.

Patrick H.

Yelp
A wonderful break in the day ... Wonderful employees and great kaffee! The cookie was definitely yum-oh!

Alejandra V.

Yelp
I honestly feel so fortunate to live walking distance from Kaffeeklatsch because it has become a staple in many of my study days! I'll begin with my appreciation for the ample available seating, the kid's play area that is cleverly placed in an area slightly away from the main seating area, and the delicious display of baked goods that is always enticing and hard to resist. As far as those baked goods and other treats? I've ordered: - Lake City Way chocolate chip cookie - Biscuit with butter and jam - Homemade granola bowl with yogurt - Soy lattes & soy chai tea lattes - Blueberry herbal teapot Let me start off with my favorite item here - those biscuits w/ butter and jam are absolutely heavenly. The mixture of the butter and their perfectly sweet jam is to die for, and the biscuit itself is excellently baked with little sugar flakes on top that make for a delicious blend of flavors. If there's anything you should order here, it's that warm biscuit with butter & jam. Just trust me on this one. Their Lake City Way chocolate chip cookie is also delicious, I would say that Kaffeeklatsch has one of my favorite chocolate chip cookies in the city, and it's always difficult to resist the temptation to not take one home! The lattes here are great, perfect temperature, strong coffee, no complaints from me. Their chai is a little more on the spicy side, which is not typically my favorite, but still enjoyable and I'd order again. Their blueberry tea is heavenly, and they have plenty of other tea options available. The only reason for a docked star is the spotty Wi-Fi because as I mentioned, I tend to come to study and I've found that I have to use my cell's personal hotspot most times that I come here. Sometimes the service is a hit or miss, some baristas are very friendly while others are a little more introverted, but I love the vibe of this café either way and am happy to support a local business in my neighborhood!

Rhiannon K.

Yelp
How have I not finished my review of Kaffeeklatsch sooner? I absolutely love this place. I'd stop by every few Friday mornings before I had a work meeting to get my coffee and pastries before heading in. The barista that was working always has so much energy in the morning and he's so nice that it always made my day. Their butter and jam biscuits are delicious! The pretzels, Blechkuchen and Lebkuchen during the holidays are are yummy as well. I've only gotten a plain latte and mocha so I can't speak on the drinks other than that but those were always great. There's free wifi if you're coming to study or work and a decent amount of seats. The back has a large parking lot and you can enter through the back door so you don't have to walk all the way around. This is my favorite coffee spot in all of Seattle. It's local, friendly, good food and doesn't feel "corporate" like many others. Hands down, a place you should check out.

Emily A.

Yelp
Stopped by the other day to find a sweet treat & wasn't let down. My Oma used to always make me this bomb apple cake and they have the same replica but with strawberries and rhubarb - it was amazing Definitely would come here if your looking for good customer service & something to help your sweet tooth

E Y.

Yelp
Great little shop. A little small so limited on seating, but the baked goods are amazing, the coffee is good, and the staff is friendly. Layout sucks, but with the small space it is in, they've done what they can with it.

Britt A.

Yelp
Kaffeeklatsch is amazing!! We were getting closer to our wedding reception date, and our original dessert option fell through. Fortunately, when Kaffeeklatsch posted on their Instagram that they made Donauwelle (we LOVE chocolate and cherries), we ended up with a better option than we had to begin with. They were extremely accommodating with our order size, and it all turned out scrumptious. We have also been frequent patrons of their bakery when we lived closer, so we can attest to the perfection of their products and their staff. We highly recommend them for any treats you might need, big or small. Thank you so much Kaffeeklatsch!!

Jessica J.

Yelp
The pastries are great - the biscuit is the best biscuit I've ever had, very moist and buttery. Sadly the coffee is terrible. My partner and I have gotten it many times - usually cold brew and americanos - and it's just bitter and watery and flavorless other than sour. Staff can be a little disorganized. Good for grab and go treats.

Michael P.

Yelp
Love this bakery! Friendly staff. Delicious bread -- especially the Landbrot. And we usually get a few pretzels, too. PLUS they have farm fresh eggs in the cooler. Highly recommended.

Jezebel P.

Yelp
Was so excited to try based on the reviews. Staff was very nice, but was super disappointed in the pastries. Had cinnamon rolls and lemon poppyseed bread. The sweet rolls were very dry and pretty flavorless. I was surprised. They tasted like day old, and that they had run out of cinnamon sugar. No rich sugary goodness in the folds like hidden treasure. I like the dough, but they just seemed incomplete somehow. And also, they were poorly boxed with the lid edge in my poppyseed bread frosting, which was a bummer. It might have been an off day, and obviously first world problems, but was still bummed. It's far from my house anyway, so not likely to return.

Levi A.

Yelp
Such a nice place! They have this authentic German style very-dense rye bread my husband and I have looked everywhere for. It's heavy like a brick--it's perfect! Very friendly service and fantastic German authenticity!

Erika J.

Yelp
Came her for a small breakfast bite, their biscuits are to die for! So buttery and fluffy that melt in your mouth as you eat it! We had a breakfast egg biscuit sandwich. The line is long and by the time you get to the front, the bread you've had your eye on might be gone...so don't say what you want out loud until you get your chance to order!

Aleia B.

Yelp
As a young person of color, I had one of the worst experiences I've ever had in Seattle. The manager, the baristas, and even the customers were standoffish. I was the only non-white person in that cafe, and they did not let me forget that. The second I walked in, I received glares, dirty looks, and prolonged stares. I was purposely made to feel uncomfortable by the owner and his friend, who had their heads fully turned to stare at me as they talked to each other. They stared at me for minutes on end, making me feel incredibly unsafe. I was planning to stay at the cafe and eat my pastry, but I ran out of there immediately after getting my food. I was shocked to experience such racism from a SEATTLE cafe. I know the owners of this cafe are sour that lim Crow ended in 1964, but welcome to 2022 bigots!
