"Husband-and-wife duo Katherine Chiao and Sean Lim serve mom-and-pop vibes and square-cut udon on the ground floor of the Uber headquarters. In addition to warm bowls of slurpable udon, they double down on the comfort food with Japanese curry plates and korokke. It’s self service making this a great place to grab a quick and convenient lunch or dinner when you’re in the Mid-Market area." - Rob Willis

"Omakase Restaurant Group (Dumpling Time, Omakase and Okane, among others) debuted their 41-seat fast-casual noodle shop specializing in customizable bowls of udon in the trendy SoMa neighborhood last week. Helmed by executive chef Edgar Agbayani—who trained at the Sanuki Menki Noodle School in Kagawa, Japan—the noodles at Udon Time are slightly thinner and have been aged overnight before being prepared on-site in a Sanuki noodle maker. Broths, too, are made in-house; the Sanuki udon is swimming in the “signature” broth with green onion, wakame and tempura flakes (and can be served hot or cold), while the Kamatama bowl features Jidori egg, soy sauce, Parmesan and butter. A selection of tempura, onigiri and salads are also on offer." - Abbe Baker

I tried lot of their dishes. My favorite is the Curry Udon with Chicken, lot of delicious chicken for the price. I did not like their Spam Musubi - too much rice and flavorless. I did not like lot of their entrees but I think this is more of personal tastes rather than bad food. The Black Bean Noodles is very soupy and sweet compared to traditional Korean ones.

Google
Always the best food and the best atmosphere! Best Island Style breakfast in town! You have to get the Loco Moco! You gotta get there between 9am and 1045am for breakfast but well worth it! Lunch is also great with curry, katsu, and a great beef rice bowl! Take any transportation to Van Ness and Market and you are steps away!

Ordered Tonkatsu Dashi udon , rich flavour feel like eating Tonkatsu ramen but Dashi flavour show up later , love it ! Noodle texture great , chashu tender , good portion size for everyone !

Kagawa-Ya udon is easy to get to. It’s a few steps away from the Van Ness Outbound Bart/muni station. Parking may be difficult if you choose to drive, so I recommend taking public transportation. Anyway, the restaurant is very clean and completely staffed. There are also plenty of seats and tables available. We went here around 6pm for dinner. I got the tonkatsu udon (#6) and my husband got the creamy veggie paitan udon (#13). Aside from that, we got the spicy gochujang popcorn chicken and the free veggie croquette using the yelp check-in. The broths of both soup tasted great. The noodles were done right - soft, chewy, and fresh. We liked everything we got, but just thought it’s a bit pricey compared to Marugame udon. But it’s okay, the food is worth it anyway.

Last day of operation. Haven't been here in years. Customer service is excellent, very attentive and thoughtful of customers. It's a little chaotic but also well run. I have to wait to enjoy my order at home with family but pretty sure it's four stars and up. Farewell and thank you!

Google
You get your noodles super fast because it’s a cafeteria style restaurant where you pick up your noodle order, move through the tempura bar for a topping, then drinks and cashier. Tried the curry beef noodles, the miso chicken and the spicy beef tan tan noodles (the latter 2 are seasonal). My favorite was the curry beef and the tan tan. The pickles in the curry beef were so tasty and added extra dimension to the dish. They have various Japanese and Hawaiian soft drinks.

Google
This is my favorite udon in all of Bay Area! The portions are very generous, the broth is flavorful without being a salt bomb (which honestly most udon places are a bit crazy with their salt levels), and the food is always fresh and fast to come out. My other favs are the beef rice bowl and the gojuchang chicken - DELICIOUS. Friendly staff too!

Google
This Market Street counter-serve udon cafeteria gets a lot of things right. Authentic Japanese taste, quick service, spacious interior. Whether you’ll come back largely depends on personal palette preference — the very sweet tofu skin a bit of a turnoff in the Kitsune Udon, for example. The minimalist nature of Japanese cooking leaves little room for rectifying if one flavor is not to one’s liking. Well-priced fried accompaniments, yum. Chicken karaage though, a little dry.

Yelp
* posting this review late... just noticed that this place is now closed very sad to hear as this place was super yummy and a great find! Hope they keep the space and come back with another yummy concept! * Quick and yummy udon place for lunch! It's cafeteria style so you order your udon and then take it on a tray and there are some side dishes you can add as you go towards check out. I believe there was various fried foods such as tempura shrimp and veggies, takoyaki, and other Japanese/asian inspired sides! They also had Asian beverages like the melon creamy soda that always makes me nostalgic for my childhood!! The staff was SO nice. If I could give this place 5+ stars I would for the amazing service. I was heading out to the airport after this lunch so I had a suitcase with me. Since it's cafeteria style you have to take your tray of food to your table. I obviously couldn't do this with a suitcase in my hand so I was going to leave my suitcase at the table and then come back to get the food but the staff member noticed and actually walked out the food for me!! When leaving they even held the door open for me since i had my hands full. Amazing service and friendly staff which makes me even more sad this place has closed. Hoping they open something else up very soon!!

Yelp
It's been years since I've been to Kagawa-Ya and have to say, same Great udon and service. They serve you in a cafeteria style. You would grab a tray and let them know what udon/rice plate you would like and the servers would go down the line to fill your bowl. You got a noodle person, a toppings person and in the end you choose any appetizers like tempura before you end at the cashier. I ordered the spicy beef tan tan udon and my hubby got the chicken katsu curry rice plate. Delicious food, full of flavor. High quality ingredients, no fat or fillers. You get a lot of food for the price too. Please bring back the tomato udon!! They had it years ago and it was my favorite! Can't go wrong with any bowl of hearty udon here!

Karen Y.

Yelp
I usually go the opposite direction when I'm on Van Ness so I totally didn't know this place was just a few steps away from the Van Ness Station. Exterior isn't too much to look at as it's part of a row of different restaurants/businesses. When I went there was a security guard patrolling up and down the street so if you're worried about safety it should be okay (though as I was leaving a guy with AirPods did end up screaming at a guy on a scooter). If you have been to other similar chains like Marugame Udon, you'll feel right at home. I was going out to dinner so I didn't want to eat something too heavy so I decided to go for the Kitsune udon. Immediately I realized there was only one bowl size. I got my udon and decided to forego any of the appetizers or sides (they have things that are fried or pan fried that you can add to your order). Udon was...exactly how I expected a bowl of udon to be. Broth wasn't too salty and the tofu skins soaked up the liquid (delicious). The onions and seaweed brightened up the dish. Overall it's a good lunch. On a cold day (in which there are many in San Francisco), this would be a really warm and satisfying meal.

Yelp
So sad that Kagawa-Ya Udon is officially closing this Friday, December 22 so I had to make sure to swing by to grab a fresh hot bowl of nikutama udon. Kagawaya is my favorite spot for udon in SF and this final visit did not disappoint. I swear by the udon noodles; they're perfectly bouncy with a good bite and the broth clings perfectly to them in every bite. The nikutama broth is savory and comforting with a note of sweetness. It comes loaded with a generous serving of meat. It was the ideal meal on a rainy afternoon. I paired my udon with a shrimp tempura, which was delicately fried and paired with tempura sauce. Thank you Kagawa-Ya for the most wonderful udon!

Francina L.

Yelp
This was my first time at Kagawa-Ya and it was definitely quit pleasant! It was quite chilly out so I thought I'd choose udon over katsu since udon seems like their speciality. When you first get there you get in line and they have a cafeteria style assembly line where you grab each item as you get closer to register. All of the staff were very attentive and kind and they really pack your bowl. I ordered the Niku beef udon and the beef was so soft and flavorful. It comes with an egg, green onions, sesame seeds, cilantro and they offer some chili seasoning on the side. I also ordered pork potstickers, and a green tea drink. The potstickers were really flavorful as well. It really hit the spot, I would definitely come back to try some of their other udon broths and some of their Katsu. The co-owner also told us that her husband is the one that created the broth himself.

Aashna W.

Yelp
Great casual lunch spot on Market street. The food is reliable and quick. Unfortunately, they are only open during lunch hours.

Saya H.

Yelp
A very solid udon place! As you walk in, you move in a single line to grab one item at a time - you order a udon first and then grab add on/side items. I got the Kitsune udon and a side of vegetable kakiage. The udon was chewy and was not overcooked at all. I liked how crispy the kakiage was! I put half of it in the soup broth so it softens up, and it was a really nice add on. I use public transportation and the restaurant is located very close to a muni station exit which is convenient for me. Parking in this area may be hard though.

Sharice W.

Yelp
Yummy! Came in on a cold day for warm sustenance. Ordering was pretty straightforward forward grab a tray, order soup of choice, and grab any extras(appetizers, drink), then pay. I got the Kitsune Udon having no clue what sweet soybean skin would taste like. It was good but I could only eat about 2 out of 3 skins but the sweetness got be too much. Plenty of seating options(high, low, window). Would return.

Yelp
Food: 5/5 I tried the spicy Dan Dan udon which was so delicious!! The broth was super flavorful. The portions are also pretty generous. It was more pricy than I had expected - I think this came out to almost $20, but I think it's worth it. My friends got the tonkatsu udon and the niki udon, both of which were also very yummy, but lighter than the Dan Dan udon. If you're looking for a hearty udon meal, I would recommend the Dan Dan udon :) Service: 6/5!!! The people were so nice! My dish took longer than expected so they actually gave me a veggie tempera for free. They also checked on me on the spice level of my dish. Ambiance: good place for a casual dinner. It kinda feels like a food court because you take a tray when you're ordering your food.

Fiona T.

Yelp
The edamame has sauce on it that was pretty good. If you like creamy things, get the kamaage mentaiko udon. It was very good, creamy, and the tempura was very light. I tried to order another to go but the staff didn't recommend that since the noodles would clump together. I asked what they recommend for to go and they said "literally anything else" haha. The #3 cost about $18 To order, get in line, grab a tray, and place your order with the first staff on the line. They'll either ask you other questions like if you're okay with the wait time or remind you to grab a tray. If your order takes longer, they'll give you a card. Slide that down to the line until the pickup section. A little break between the noodle side and the appetizer side. You'll have to grab your bowl there. Tell a staff member what appetizer you'd like, followed by the drink you'd like, and pay at the register. If you have bags or a coat, there are hooks under the tables.

Yelp
I love Udon and have been wanting to try more udon shops! This place closes at 2 pm and since I'm not from the area, it's been on my list for a while! I went closer to closing time so I opted to get to-go. It's cafeteria style so you order your dish first, grab sides, and then pay! I ordered the Nikutama Udon (Beef with Egg) for about $20. It was a bit pricier than I had anticipated but it was delicious nonetheless!! The only downside is that the to-go container did not last the trek home. Unfortunately, the bottom of the container had ripped during the car ride and all the soup spilled out into the bag :/ Despite that, I really enjoyed the meal a lot!! The noodles were not too chewy and the meat was super tender. I definitely look forward to coming back again!

Helen L.

Yelp
Too lazy to take picture and had no time. Had the curry chicken udon. Chunks of chicken. Udon was smooth, slurpy smooth. Had some red? Marinated Ginger? The eating mate had tofu udon, with ckear broth and seaweed. It looked good. It was fast, cafeteria style, service. Order your meal. They slip it to you. Then you choose the appetizers and order your drink and you pay. Ask them to give you water. Im so glad they are post covid and i get to sit down and slurp away. Nice high ceilings, so you can talk away. Unfortunately i forgot to yelp check in to get free drink! All good.

Jude D.

Yelp
Guys, I was so stoked on my meal here I forgot to take a picture til it was mostly eaten lol. But anyway, I got the tofu katsu curry which was absolutely amazing. You have to wait a few minutes but that's just cause the tofu or meat you get is fried fresh. It comes with a generous portion of rice and curry, as well as a little side salad with an amazing dressing. It was so good I went back two days in a row and kept forgetting to take pics. Definitely check them out

Kenneth A.

Yelp
I showed up near closing time and was pleasantly surprised that all the food was still delicious and fresh tasting. The broth is hearty and flavorful, paired with crunchy and tasty tempura. The bowl I ordered had a more classic udon soup while my partner's had a ramen style broth. I really like that I can order my food in a cafeteria style line, it's a lot more fun to watch them out my bowl together. A bit pricy especially if you want to try more add ons

Pauline N.

Yelp
I went here on a rainy Tuesday night. The udon was the perfect meal for a gloomy day. Food: I got my udon to go and they treated my bowl with such care even though I got take out. I really enjoyed seeing the attention to detail that have for every bowl they make! When I got home, the noodles were still perfectly chewy, not too soggy (after a 15min drive). There was a great topping to noodle ratio, in my opinion. I also got some karaage as an appetizer. The sauce that came with it was very good. I liked how crispy the chicken was without having too much batter. Service: I really like the counter service that have set up. It is like a fast casual place but the inside is very nice. Kagawa is perfect for work lunches since it's so fast. Everyone inside was also super nice and helpful. Other: I will note that anywhere around market is scary to park. I had a hard time finding parking personally (that wasn't a garage). Definitely an amazing udon shop. I can't wait to come back and try their other bowls!

SY C.

Yelp
Located on market street, I came here for a quick dinner before a concert nearby. It's definitely more of a quick service lunch spot with efficient ordering at the counter, and a spot for you to return your tray at the window. The decor is minimal and has a quick lunch spot feel. There were some decorations for a birthday party though, so maybe people host events there too? The food was exactly what I expected, comforting and nothing out of the box. The prices are regular for SF, which is to say always on the high side. It was a little slower at dinner so maybe the fried items would be more fresh at lunch. Nikutama udon: udon with a gyudon topping and onsen tamago, what's not to like? I appreciated that it wasn't too salty and was comforting in its familiarity of flavor. One interesting thing they added (after asking me) was cilantro which I rarely see in Japanese food. Spicy tantan udon: kind of an interesting combination since I usually see this in ramen stores. The soup was a flavor bomb but got kinda salty as you finished the noodles. The meat was very well seasoned and I liked the cilantro and beansprouts they added. Karaage: fried chicken on a stick! Fairly well seasoned, very likely to have been frozen. Potato croquette: got this with my Yelp check in, it was curry flavored which I wasn't expecting but pretty good.

Yelp
Food: Tried #13, a seasonal cold winter udon - an al dente udon topped with a vegan Japanese curry and a white dashi foam. It was good! I was impressed given 1) I'm not vegan 2) never go for non-soup base 3) udon is a hit or miss for me The chicken karaage was a miss but the udon made up for it. Ambience: Clean and bright Service: Self serve - you order at the counter and go. Staff nice and patient explaining the menu

Aaron P.

Yelp
Nothing to rave about. It gets the job done if you are craving it. Their hours are strange though...

Kathleen P.

Yelp
Kagawa-Ya Udon is located at the very back of The Market. I am always kindly greeted by the cashier upon walking toward the line. Here's how I'd rate all the udons that I have tried: 5. Curry Udon with Chicken: Chicken's a bit dry 4. Spicy Soy Vegan Paitan: Quite similar to the one below 3. Kitsune Udon 2. Winter Special Udon: Cool to see it prepared in front of you. I mixed everything together and it was delicious. (Not sure if I was supposed to do that though lol) Per the menu it's a, "Vegetarian curry broth with potato-dashi foam, edamame, aonori, black lava salt and chili pepper flakes." 1. Nikutama Udon: Classic taste Interestingly, all but the curry udons (those are a bit hotter) always come at the perfect temperature to eat right away so it's a good spot to eat during your lunch break. Also why you might see a number of solo diners on a weekday. I just wish the serving had a little bit more as I never feel satisfied with just a bowl, but all the above are great choices. Just depends on what you're craving.

Mike C.

Yelp
I don't eat out much these days. Still as my schedule and home situation dictates my dining routine these days. Food consolidators have given me the opportunity to try a variety of restaurants that I want to try without actually going there such as this one. Since my friend wanted to get some food on a particular weekday that coincided with Kagawa's schedule, I decided to try their Tonkotsu-dashi udon (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=lXzhNc5S2zy5Mp9-rQIyng&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q). I was really impressed with how they packaged the kit (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=xemRaH67_FG8A0Jq1K6Ifw&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) as well as the number of ingredients in this dish. It took me about fifteen minutes to put this bowl together and I enjoyed every element of the meal. The soup was not overly salty despite me likely overcooking it when I got distracted at home as a heated the broth. The noodles were on point in following their timing directions. I took that extra recommended step of lightly pan frying the chashu (pork) to both warm it and give a nice browning. I also placed an order for the side of soft boiled eggs (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=p4ztaoA0Yo8o6VFApkc8tQ&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q). Because I was already full from the udon, I had the eggs a couple of days later for two separate meals. They were still in the egg and I kept them refrigerated to extend the shelf life. I was pleasantly surprised when I cracked the first one open as I mixed this with a beef stew and rice meal for dinner, perfectly runny as I hoped (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=slbqjEhzWZy-_T56c4XcAQ&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q). Thank you, Kagawa-Ya, for solving my udon craving. I am still not comfortable walking over to your location so I will likely continue ordering kits until the downtown climate improves, safety wise. Another disadvantage is the parking situation as, with all of the new street regulations, there is hardly any around that make it convenient to stop in for a quick bite except perhaps on weekends.

Jacob P.

Yelp
The beef udon was very savory and tasted great, and the Karaage was pretty good but nothing special. May or may not be back but the food was good!

Abigail S.

Yelp
Absolutely FABULOUS! Had mine to go (you can skip DoorDash and order directly for delivery). I had the tofu udon and veggie potstickers. I added corn and a soft boiled egg. It was so delicious and perfectly cooked. I was so impressed with the taste, packaging, and freshness. Definitely recommend when you're craving noodles.

Jocelyn W.

Yelp
This place has been around for a few years and has always satisfied my lunch cravings everytime I go. Staff is friendly and food is consistently great. My fave is their mentaiko udon and their shrimp tempura is crunchy. Their to-go orders are thoughtfully packaged, which I appreciate.

Suzie A.

Yelp
Stopped by on a weekday for lunch with some colleagues. It's a clean little space with a small but decent selection of noodles and katsu rice plates. Cafeteria style ordering and service line, with friendly and efficient staff. Colleagues got the curry udon and loved it, while I got the tofu katsu curry plate, which was cooked to order and came with four generous pieces of perfectly crispy on the outside and hot and tender tofu on the inside atop a bed of fluffy white rice and some salad. I doused all of it with the delicious curry sauce, which had bits of potatoes and carrots in it. The curry sauce was and tofu were definitely the stars. Would go back just for that. Only four stars because I wish they had a couple more non-soup tofu options.

Monica W.

Yelp
So glad I got to try this cozy bowl of udon before they closed. I ordered takeout and it was neatly packed. Noodles were bouncy and chewy, and the caramelized onions and beef added a sweet savoriness. Broth was nice and rich, and it really hits on a cold rainy day. Hope to see them re-open in the near future!

Anna F.

Yelp
Better than Marugame but not as much as the price difference would suggest. The Nikutama (sweet beef) is less sweet more savory, which I appreciate, because I can rarely eat an entire bowl of a Nikutama udon without getting sick of the sweetness. At Kagawa-Ya, I couldn't finish because the portion was surprisingly large. Noodles could've been chewier though! Workers were very friendly when I picked up my takeout order, which took 15 minutes to prepare after I placed the order. I might dine in another time to try the cold dashi foam udon (':

Conner C.

Yelp
Got takeout from here and it was suuuuuuch a good meal. The broth was super flavorful, the meat was high-quality and cooked tenderly, and the noodles had the perfect chewiness. I was all-around so impressed, and it totally hit the spot for a cold SF night. It was definitely pretty expensive for what it is, especially since it's near lots of tech HQs, but after tasting the quality, I would go back again for sure.

Angelica S.

Yelp
This place has been on my list for a while. Finally got a chance to try this place. This place didn't disappoint. The service was fast and efficient. Tried a few of their udon dishes and each dish was simply amazing. Normally I am not a fan of udon noodles but the udon was fresh and tasted amazing and the broth was so flavorful. The ambiance was simple and not cluttered. It's open and spacious. Definitely worth coming back.

Therese S.

Yelp
SO GOOD. The udon was so perfectly flavorful with noodles that were thick and chewy, as was the meat. Loved the appetizer of the curry croquette and the shrimp tempura too. I got lunch with a friend on a Friday during lunch hour, and the line moved very smoothly, so it didn't take long to get our food.

David N.

Yelp
Going to bring a friend lunch and this spot was close by. There's a table at the entrance for carryout only. A kind woman took my order for a Chicken Curry Katsu and two appetizers (chicken and shrimp). I waited 15 minutes and the order was ready. The curry was wrapped separately from the chicken and rice. A bit small portion and not really appealing. My friend said the chicken was dry. The appetizers were overly deep fried like Popeyes and dry as well. $26 for an uninspiring lunch. I would not plan to come here again.

Jennifer H.

Yelp
I've had Kagawa-Ya Udon bookmarked for a while and am glad to have finally tried their udon. I came here with my friend on a Tuesday around 11am. They had just opened for lunch so there was one other party in there. The process of getting your udon is very similar to Marugame. I went with the Kitsune udon. They have various types of fried Japanese "appetizers" to go with your udon. I decided to try the curry croquette & grabbed a spam musubi to go. Every thing was delicious & I can't wait to come back!

Chris P.

Yelp
This place is still the best udon in downtown SF, hands down. It reminds me of the udon shops in Hawaii or Japan: quick, fresh, efficient, and delicious. Not to mention the people here are THE BEST. I think the dude with the glasses making the udon bowls has been here since I started coming in 2019. This place is great for a quick bite, good for groups, and has a clean, spacious dining room. Hope this place stays here forever!!

Eunice Y.

Yelp
reviews looked good so headed there with a group of friends for dinner, but indoor seating was closed didnt actually try the food but just a psa that theyre only takeout after 2pm

Jem T.

Yelp
One of my go-to lunch spots. It's a bit pricey, but that's expected in the City. Depending on the day, the soup portions can be left overs or not. I love the freshness of the ingredients and ratio of soup to noodles. There are plenty of tables inside for indoor dining. The staff welcomes you as soon as you walk-in and are super friendly throughout the ordering and check out process. Service is quick, which allows plenty of time to enjoy all of the soup's deliciousness.

Cheri L.

Yelp
I'm not much of an udon person but I actually really enjoyed the bowl I had here. Service was very quick as they prep it at the counter and serve it to you at the end of the line. The broth was very flavorful and the noodles had the perfect texture (not too soft or mushy). For the chashu slices, they were not super thick, but they weren't paper thin either. The pricing is a bit high but there def is some good quality there. There are a lot of other food options that I will have to go back and try some time. They do have some vegetarian/vegan options so be sure to check those out if that fits your needs. A good amount of indoor seats available. Friendly service.

Irene C.

Yelp
I ordered the kabocha chicken udon and also got a side of the tempura shrimp and the croquette (free for Yelp check in). The udon was nicely al dente and the kabocha broth was super unique and delicious. However, I personally felt that the chicken was a little dry so I ended up not eating the chicken from the dish. The tempura was also decent, but the udon is definitely what I'd recommend trying

Chile M.

Yelp
The food the service is welcoming and soul warming!!! so worth your time & hungry tummy

Monica M.

Yelp
I'm so glad that this establishment withstood the COVID pandemic! I was a regular customer during my work week and now that we've returned in the office, I have had the joy of grabbing lunch here again! The lunch dine in was a wonderful option as well. It gives back normalcy and the city working energy that once was when in SF. I enjoyed their tonkatsu Udon and chicken Katsu curry with rice. I added extra broccoli and tamago tempura to my order and that definitely did not disappoint. If you are in the area and in the mood for some noodle soup or curry - I'd most definitely recommend Kagawaya!

Yelp
Fast and easy lunch spot. I like coming here for a quick lunch with coworkers since they are fast & efficient. The food is good (not great) but hits the spot. Another plus is that you get a discount if you are a city employee - show your badge.

Yelp
I was craving udon the other day and stumbled across Kagawa-Ya Udon on DoorDash. I tried their cold udon which was excellent! Perfectly chewy noodles, interesting assortment of toppings (added a lot of additional flavors and textures), and a very umami broth. The lemon slice added a perfect amount of zest as well and the flavors were overall very refreshing! I enjoyed it so much I ordered the same thing for dinner later that week. Price was also quite reasonable at $13-14. Will definitely be a regular for me when I'm craving udon.

Yelp
I sometimes come here because it's near my workplace, and it's a pretty good option if you're looking for something with hot soup (which is kinda necessary when it gets COLD COLD in SF). I appreciate how creative they get with the broths, and the vegan option I once tried (soy milk broth and tofu skin filled with mochi) was pretty dang good! It's pretty hard to find the tofu skin topping anywhere in the states, so it was nice getting to finally try it. The mochi itself wasn't as stretchy as I've seen in videos of people eating oden in Japan, but it still had a hint of sweetness that went well with the garlic oil and broth. The regular udon options are fine--they taste like what udon should taste like. I just don't get anything from this place often because man, it's expensive. It's definitely because it's in the area it's in (SF prices...), but it's still in my rotation of lunch options regardless.

Yelp
Good udon, but my favorite is their shrimp curry rice plate. I love a good ebi fry, and theirs is light and fluffy. Shrimp is perfectly crispy and seasoned and it comes with rice and salad with a comforting curry sauce of potatoes, chicken, and carrot. This is something your grandma would make and it makes you all warm and fuzzy. I also recommend their potato curry croquette. It's also very light yet crunchy, kind of like an upgraded hash brown but better. It's savoury and small, but it does fill you up. The udons are also comforting and delicious. I've had the tan tan men and the tradition beef udon. The noodles are cooked perfectly, the broth is deep in flavour, and the toppings and portion size are fair. Prices are a little steep for udon (~$15-17). One of my favorite places in Hawaii sell their bowls for under $10. Packaging for delivery or takeout is wrapped well with tamper seals. It's very neat and I can't wait to return for more udon or curry.

Yelp
Actually disliked this place at first. But then one day, I decided to give them a second chance. I ordered the tonkotsu udon. It was packed with flavor and I loved how the noodles were cooked perfectly. Not too hard, not too soft. Just right. I absolutely loved the pork belly bits and some of the toppings. I definitely had a change of heart.

Yelp
Ordered delivery from Caviar during SIP. Was really happy with the food and quantity for the price! Beef curry udon - curry and udon came in two separately packaged cardboard bowls. I could just pour the curry into the udon with no leakage issues, and without having to use another bowl. (I have reached maximum laziness during SIP.) the curry was still warm with huge chucks of meat and veggies. The udon was also chewy and yummy. Pretty good deal for $15.75 Chicken karaage - tender on the inside and crispy on the outside, just as you'd hope it would be Will be adding to my rotation of delivery options!

Yelp
I ordered the Niku udon with a soft boiled egg. Although the udon was tasty, it is quite expensive. I paid $20 for just one bowl. This place is pretty close to my work which is why I decided to try it, and I ordered thru Yelp and for pick up. They definitely package the to-go orders very nicely and secured.. The only place I was comparing this to was Marugame at Stonestown since that is the only place I've had udon.. to be honest, I still prefer Marugame over this place. I wish I can add the tempura batter crunchies into my udon at this place. This place was still good and I'll probably still come here again, but maybe I'll try something else.

Yelp
I love udon, so after following Kagawa-Ya on IG for months, I was in the neighborhood for lunch and decided to stop by. Ordering is quick, pass through a line as your lunch is assembled on your way to the register. I ordered the Spicy Tan Tan Udon, because it is my favorite and I love spicy noodles. I didn't want to order something different, as this is my go-to usually at other places. The portion was huge. As I pass by the hot tempura side dishes, I grabbed a corn croquette. I knew I didn't need it, but I wanted it. Very light and crispy exterior and creamy corn inside. Lunch was $18.50 before tax and tip, so yeah pricey for an average work day lunch and cafeteria style served food. I feel that I need to make an exception and say that it was worth it. My Udon was very delicious, warming and very flavorful. I was pretty sleepy afterward, but back to work. This is a very good place for a quick lunch or dinner. Not a formal sit down place, but nicer than typical fast food places.

Yelp
I ordered the Niku Udon, and it was a major disappointment. My order didn't look anything like the picture on their website. The beef was 95% fat, stuff that I would throw away in the trash. See the pics I uploaded.

Yelp
I love this place. I've been eating lunch at Kagawa since they opened many years ago. The owners are always there and always very friendly. And the food has remained consistently good to this day. I'm headed there right now in fact.
